Jurassic World Rebirth: Roaring Success or Franchise Extinction?

Send us a textWelcome back to DMR!Jurassic World: Rebirth is a visually impressive but narratively uneven return to the dinosaur blockbuster formula. Critics praise its thrilling set pieces, polished effects, and renewed focus on the prehistoric stars that made the franchise iconic. It's a big, loud, entertaining ride that captures some of the old magic, and for audiences simply craving dino mayhem, it largely delivers. The cast is solid, the action sequences are well-executed, and it feels more respectful of the original Jurassic Park tone than some recent installments. But the story itself doesn't quite evolve — it's weighed down by thin characters, predictable plotting, and a few unnecessary subplots. Many reviewers describe it as fun but forgettable, a movie that entertains in the moment yet doesn't leave a lasting impact. That's why it sits at around 50% on Rotten Tomatoes: half the critics enjoyed the spectacle, while the other half felt the franchise is stuck in the past. In short, Rebirth roars but doesn't soar!Remember to grab your 30 day free Audible trial, link is in the show, you will also support DMR!Support the showThe audio clips used in this podcast, including excerpts from movie/series/documentary trailers, are used under the principles of fair use and fair dealing for the purpose of criticism, commentary, and review. Introductions to your Ghosts Hosts with the Most - Lonely of Lonely Horror Club and Projectile Varmint aka Suzie Introductions to our Cagematch cohost Mike aka That Horror Teacher The Cagematch Bracket & Rules Bracket: To create the brackets, we pulled a total of 22 horror films from the NEON filmography which were placed into “seeds” based on their IMDB & Rotten Tomatoes ratings. Go to google.com. 2. Scroll to the gray footer section at the bottom of the page. 3. On the bottom right, click on Settings. 4. From the settings menu, select Advanced Search. ◦ The direct link provided in the session is: google.com/advanced_search.• Google's Broader Initiatives: Favour encourages a deeper look at Google's footer content, pointing out links that reveal the company's operational principles and corporate goals, such as How Search Works (which details organizing information, ranking, testing, and spam detection) and a section on sustainability, which states a goal to "collectively reduce 1 gigaton of their carbon equivalent emissions annually by 2030."Case Study: SEO Strategy for a "Horror Filmmaker"The session's central tutorial is a live case study using a search term provided by a participant, "P," who identifies as a "disabled horror filmmaker."• Initial Search Analysis: ◦ A standard Google search for horror filmmaker yields results focused on popular movies and lists of famous male directors (e.g., "the best horror film um directors"). ◦ Google's auto-complete suggestions include related commercial and informational queries like horror filming techniques, horror movie structure, and horror movie checklist.• Using Advanced Search: ◦ Favour inputs "horror filmmakers" into the "this exact word or phrase" field in Advanced Search. This action automatically wraps the term in quotation marks in the standard search bar, significantly refining the results.• Identifying a Niche Opportunity: ◦ The speaker observes a critical gap in the search results: "I noticed that out of all these names that I see, there's no woman that is on the list." ◦ This observation is corroborated by Google's suggested search bubbles, which include terms like list, female, and top. The primary search result for "female horror directors" is from Rotten Tomatoes.• Strategic Recommendations for "P": ◦ Content Creation: It is recommended that "P" create content pillars on her website focused on female horror directors and related topics from the "People also ask" section of Google's results. This would help establish her as an authority in an underserved niche. ◦ Market Share: The goal of this content strategy is to capture a "market share" of the search traffic for these terms. By creating articles like "Here are some influential horror filmmakers we have in our time," her brand can appear alongside established names. ◦ Commercial Intent: The strategy aims to convert informational searches into commercial opportunities. After providing valuable information, the website can prompt visitors to "Book a call with us" or inquire about "horror filmmaking services."Thank you for listening to this episode!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes While Marvel Studios allegiance to San Diego and Hall H seems to have waned in recent years, not so for last weekend's New York City Comic Con where our favorite cinematic universe teased the latest and greatest for their small screen offerings. Let's rundown the biggest headlines from Marvel Television:Wonder Man released its official teaser trailer alongside the announcement that the 8-episode series had been delayed from December 2025 to January 27, 2026Fans in attendance were treated to an exclusive trailer for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, presented by Daredevil actor Charlie Cox who was reunited with Jessica Jones actor Krysten Ritter. The series was confirmed for a March 2026 release on Disney Plus and we also learned Wilson Bethel's Bullseye will return and Matthew Lillard will be an antagonist to Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin. Separate from NYCC, but still worth mentioning on the subject of Daredevil: Born Again, speaking with Entertainment Tonight Marvel TV Head Brad Winderbaum shared the season's connection to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, saying "We are communicating a lot with the team on Spider-Man: Brand New Day to make sure that there's coherence there. We don't want to spoil anything, but it very much exists in the same world and it is important."VisionQuest and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 were confirmed for Fall 2026 release windows, while X-Men '97 Season 2 was announced for Summer 2026. All three shows debuted exclusive trailers not yet released to the public and both animated series confirmed their third seasons to be in development. On the DCU TV side of things, Peacemaker Season 2 aired its final episode last week, and while we'll avoid getting specific with spoilers given the recency, when asked about a third season James Gunn did provide comments on the series' future and its impact on the DCU at large, saying, “This is about the other stories in which this [cliffhanger] will play out,” he said. “Never say never. But right now, this is about the future of the DCU.” Gunn also shared that he spoke with Ryan Reynolds about a Deadpool cameo in Peacemaker and that while the actor was interested, the logistics required to pull off the crossover were ultimately deemed too daunting.Despite Tron: Ares' number one spot debut at the box office last weekend with a $60.5 million global haul, the numbers are disappointingly muted when weighed against projections of $85-95 million and a reported $180 million budget. The film currently holds a 56% on Rotten Tomatoes and B+ Cinemascore.HBO revealed the debut trailer for Game of Thrones spin off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms at New York Comic Con last week and has announced a premiere date of Jan. 18.Bradley Cooper is in talks to star opposite Margot Robbie in the Ocean's Eleven prequel at Warner Bros. Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung is attached to direct with Robbie's Lucky Chap producing.Warner Brothers has announced that an untitled follow up to A Minecraft Movie will hit theaters on July 23rd, 2027. Jared Hess returns to direct and will write the script with Chris Galletta, one of the writers of the original.Disney has officially resumed development on a live action adaptation of Tangled. The project has The Greatest Showman's Michael Gracey attached to direct a script from Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Scarlett Johansson is being eyed to star as Mother Gothel.Christopher Briney, one of the leads of Prime Video's The Summer I Turned Pretty, has joined HBO Max's Emmy-winning comedy Hacks for its upcoming fifth season, which is currently in production.

The Return of the Show This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are talking about the finales of Alien: Earth and The Terminal List: Dark Wolf (remember those shows?). Then delve into a baby pool of Gen V season 2. Finally… Tron: Ares. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Tron: Ares: 5:26 The Terminal List: 14:33 Alien Earth: 28:18 Tron: Ares (2025) Tron: Ares Release date: October 10, 2025 (theatrical) Director: Joachim Rønning Screenwriter: Jesse Wigutow (story also by Wigutow) Producers: Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook, Steven Lisberger Distributor: Walt Disney Pictures Music: Score composed by Nine Inch Nails. Runtime: ~1h 59m (119 minutes) Genre: Sci-fi / action / adventure Cast Jared Leto as Ares (Program) Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson Jeff Bridges returns as Kevin Flynn (classic role) Plot Summary (Premise / What We Know) Premise: A sophisticated Program, named Ares, is sent from the digital Grid into the real world on a “dangerous mission,” marking humanity's first direct encounter with sentient A.I. Conflict: Ares is deployed to retrieve Kevin Flynn's permanence code (or a code enabling A.I. extension) from a rival tech CEO, Eve Kim. Ares gradually develops emotions, shifting the mission's stakes. Visuals & Style: Heavy neon, digital effects, light cycles, digital-real world blending. One trailer labels it “Filmed for IMAX.” Music / Sound: The score by Nine Inch Nails. They released a track “As Alive As You Need Me To Be.” Reception (early): Mixed. On Rotten Tomatoes, ~55% Tomatometer, but high audience score (~87%). Production notes: Filming took place in Vancouver, wrapped ~May 2024. Considerations The premise is intriguing (bringing a sentient A.I. into our world), but early reviews note that while the visuals are strong, the plot is sometimes thin or formulaic. Because Tron has a cult legacy and visual identity, expectations are high; missteps in character or plot substance tend to stand out. The Nine Inch Nails score is a bold choice (replacing Daft Punk's iconic Legacy sound) and could either elevate or distance fans depending on taste. The bridging between digital reality and human reality is always a tricky balance — the narrative will need to ground its sci-fi concepts in human stakes (emotions, morality) to avoid feeling hollow. The Terminal List: Dark Wolf (Amazon Prime) Series origin: A prequel to The Terminal List, based on the Jack Carr novel and characters. Creators: Jack Carr & David DiGilio Finale / Plot Summary In the finale, Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch) and James Reece rejoin forces to expose and dismantle a deep conspiracy that's been manipulating events behind the scenes. In one key sequence, Ben lures Iranian forces into what they think is a trap (a cabin in the mountains outside Tehran) — but it's a reverse ambush. Using hidden defenses, he turns the tide. When the soldiers breach the cabin, Ben's counterattack ignites, intercut with a Pink Floyd “Brain Damage” cue (a stylized flourish) After the finale, Ben's surviving allies spread out across Istanbul, Tehran, and Virginia to address the remaining threads and avenge fallen comrades. Reception / Notes The finale leans hard into action, retribution, and vengeance, with less room for emotional reflection. Some praised its boldness, others saw it as standard action fare wrapped in swagger. Because Dark Wolf is tied to The Terminal List universe, many viewers also weigh how it sets up or reframes earlier entries. Ratings Series Finale Out of 5, Truthful Conclusions Daryl: 4.5/5 Brian: 4.49/5 Series Out of 10, You Don’t Take a Man’s Wings Darryl: 8.3/10 Brian: 7.89/10 Alien: Earth (FX) Series creator / showrunner: Noah Hawley Episode title: “The Real Monsters” Writers: Noah Hawley & Migizi Pensoneau Director: Dana Gonzales Original air date: September 23, 2025 Runtime: ~47 minutes Franchise placement: It's the first TV series in the Alien franchise, set ~2 years before the original Alien film (so circa 2120) Season & Finale Summary Over the season, Wendy (a hybrid human-robot) and her brother Hermit (aka Joe) have been navigating a crash of the spaceship Maginot on Earth, corporate machinations (Prodigy vs Weyland-Yutani), and the threat of Xenomorphs. In the finale, several factions converge at Neverland (the Prodigy research facility). Arthur (a hybrid) gives birth to a second Xenomorph before dying, and the “adult” Xenomorph attacks. Meanwhile, Wendy and the Lost Boys forcibly take control of the facility, locking up Boy Kavalier, Dame Sylvia, Kirsh, Morrow, and Atom Eins in a cell. Wendy summons a Xenomorph to guard them. Joe is nearly fed to a single-eyed creature (“ocellus”) but survives; the ocellus ends up at Arthur's corpse on the beach, potentially taking him as a host. Wendy in the final moments stands over the locked cell and says, “Now, we rule.” She also confronts Boy K with the collapse of his Peter Pan mythology: “You were never a boy. You've always been a man.” Many critics note the finale is more of a cliffhanger than a neat wrap, raising big questions and leaving threads dangling for season 2. Reception & Critique Highlights Praise for visuals, ambition, and performances (especially Morrow vs Kirsh dynamic) Criticism: some felt the show “lost sight” of its eerie, dreamlike tone by the end, and that the finale overused convenience (aliens appearing in exactly the right spots) Ratings Season Finale Out of 5, What Happens When a Boy Genius Is Obsessed with an Eyeball Darryl: 2/5 Brian: 4.32/5 Season 1 Out of 10, Aliens Run a Muck and a Rich Guy’s Island Darryl: 5/10 Brian: 7.25/10 Contact Us The Infamous Podcast can be found wherever podcasts are found on the Interwebs, feel free to subscribe and follow along on social media. In this episode of Horror Hour with the Hanna's, we dive into V/H/S/Halloween (2025), the latest entry in the V/H/S anthology horror series arriving just in time for October. Released on Shudder and produced by Bloody Disgusting, this episode explores a series of Halloween-themed videotape horror segments, each directed by a different filmmaker. We'll unpack the strengths: standout segments like “Kidprint” (directed by Alex Ross Perry), which has already drawn attention for its deeply unsettling psychological horror grounded in realism. We also discuss other vignettes such as “Home Haunt”, “Fun Size”, “Ut Supra Sic Infra”, “Diet Phantasma”, and “Coochie Coochie Coo”—each bringing a distinct flavor of dread.  We'll also talk about how V/H/S/Halloween fits into the larger V/H/S franchise—how it continues the found footage tradition, how it leans into Halloween iconography, and how it both leans on and subverts anthology horror tropes. While not every segment resonates, the film has been praised for balancing camp, gore, and horror tone. On Rotten Tomatoes, reviewers note it “knows precisely how to handle the switch in tone” between silly and dark. If you're into anthology horror, found footage vibes, or Halloween-flavored frights, this episode is for you—grab your VHS stack and tune in.   Follow Us on Instagram and TikTok: @horrorhourwiththehannas   Music by Aries Beats - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPpnxLYrzVA

FearDotCom (2002) was chosen by supporter Mike, and it stands as one of the more infamous entries in early-2000s horror cinema. Directed by William Malone, the film attempted to ride the wave of techno-horror thrillers that followed in the wake of The Ring and other Y2K-era internet scare stories. Produced on a budget of around $40 million and shot in Luxembourg to cut costs, the film leaned heavily into dark, industrial set design and unsettling visual effects. Its creative team aimed to blend supernatural horror with the growing unease surrounding online culture and the dangers lurking in the digital world.Unfortunately, what ended up on screen was a messy, incoherent slog that quickly earned a reputation as one of the worst horror films of its decade. Critics tore into its lack of story, overreliance on cheap shock tactics, and shameless recycling of ideas from better movies. Rather than building a cult following, FearDotCom has largely been remembered as an embarrassing misfire — a reminder that big budgets and flashy visuals can't save a film when the script is dead on arrival.Check out Mike's channels for Genuine Chit Chat and Star Wars Chit Chat.If you enjoy the show, we have a Patreon, so become a supporter here.Referral links also help out the show if you were going to sign up:NordVPNNordPassTrailer Guy Plot SummaryA mysterious website, a string of gruesome deaths, and a detective racing against time — FearDotCom! When people log on, they don't just surf the web… they sign their own death warrant. Now, with only 48 hours to crack the case, the question isn't who's behind the killings… but whether anyone can survive clicking the wrong link.Fun FactsFearDotCom was filmed almost entirely in Luxembourg, making it one of the most expensive movies ever shot there at the time. The movie had a budget of around $40 million, but grossed less than $20 million worldwide, marking it as a huge box office flop.Director William Malone previously worked on another horror movie, House on Haunted Hill (1999), before tackling FearDotCom.The film holds a rare 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, cementing its reputation as one of the worst-reviewed horror movies ever made.Screenwriter Josephine Coyle came up with the concept after being inspired by fears of the internet in the late 1990s.The movie's cinematography leaned heavily on shadows and industrial set design, inspired by German expressionism and the works of David Fincher.Critics often compared it unfavorably to The Ring, which was released just months later in 2002.FearDotCom was one of the last major horror films to receive a wide theatrical release before studios shifted many similar “dot com” thrillers to direct-to-DVD.Despite its failure, the film has developed a small following of horror fans who admire its eerie visual style, if not its storytelling.Stephen Dorff, the film's lead actor, admitted in later interviews that he felt the script was weak but took the role because of the big production budget and studio backing.thevhsstrikesback@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback

In this heartfelt, high-energy conversation, Stephanie Bohn—entertainment veteran turned startup founder—traces her journey from American Express to 13 years at Warner Bros., scaling Rotten Tomatoes, a pivotal stint at Netflix, and ultimately to purpose-built entrepreneurship. Stephanie shares how “raising your hand before you feel 100% ready” opened doors to building new business lines (hello, early App Store days) and leading through ambiguity. We dig into her time as CMO at Chief, the power of peer boards for executive women, and what servant leadership looks like in practice. The episode turns deeply personal as Stephanie opens up about her daughter's Rett syndrome diagnosis, the broken systems families navigate, and how that sparked Truly Care—a mission-driven platform connecting families with specialized caregivers and guiding them to underused respite resources. It's a masterclass in turning obsession into action, finding champions, and designing a life that sustains both ambition and wellbeing. We cover:Spotting and pitching opportunities before you're “ready”Intrapreneurship at scale: apps, IP, and the Rotten Tomatoes playbookInside Chief: “who mentors the mentors?” and changing the face of leadershipCaregiving as infrastructure: access, affordability, and dignityDefining servant leadership and leading by removing obstaclesFounder fuel: memoirs, The Pitch podcast, and mindset rituals that stickGuest links:LinkedInWebsiteInstagramMic-drop moment: “If you're obsessed with the idea, break it into nano-steps, find your champions, and build the scaffolding until it exists.”

In this episode, the gang discusse Twinless, the Emmys, the Pitt, The Long Walk, 28 Years Later, The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot, Alien Earth, Friendship, and Upload. This episode kicks off with just Kevin and Lauren. They discuss the new film Twinless, starring Dylan O'Brien. It's a low-budget affair that should have had a better release. Despite its less-than-stellar advertising, the film is excellent, getting great reviews on both Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB. It's a film about two men who meet in a group for those who have lost their twins, and the emotional journey they take together. It's definitely worth watching in the theater if you can find it, but otherwise catch it as soon as it streams somewhere!  Andrew joins the call, and when Lauren finishes, the gang discusses the 2025 Emmys. While they generally agreed with the victors, some of the nominees were questionable. Many shows had too many nominations, whereas some more deserving had none. But overall, the Emmys got it right.  The Emmy discussion leads us straight into Lauren's review of the series "The Pitt" on HBO. It's a 15-episode series about life in a Pittsburgh emergency room. It stars new Emmy winner, Noah Wiley The show is shot in an almost a 24-like method where the 15 episodes are basically in real time. This show deserved every award it won. After Lauren says goodnight, it's left up to Kevin and Andrew. Andrew had the opportunity to see "The Long Walk" in theaters this week. While Kevin hasn't seen it, he's a huge Stephen King fan, so he's been very much anticipating this review. Overall, Andrew liked the movie and recommends it, although some issues with bodily functions may have sent him a little over the edge. That being said, it's worth seeing in the theater if you have the time and the money, so go check it out.  For the first time in a while, we get to a film that both guys have seen, 28 Years Later. This is an extension of 28 DaysWeeks Later and is definitely in a more run-down world than we've seen before. Past films seem to suggest that the rage virus affected the entire world, but it now seems isolated to the United Kingdom. Survivors are now in quarantine in the UK. This is the story of a both falling out with his father and coming into his own to save his mother's life. There are some great performances by Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes, as well as the young lead. This one is definitely worth checking out now that it's streaming on Netflix.  Next up, it's just Kevin for a minute, and e talks about a film called "The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot". If, by chance, you're reading this before you watch the episode, it's recommend that you take a minute and think about what you imagine this film would be. As you watch Kevin talk about it, you'll find it's absolutely nothing like anything you thought it would be. It stars Sam Elliott, and that's all we'll say here. We may not recommend going to watch this film, even though it's on Hulu, but it's interesting. If you want to see a story of a man's life journey, then go check it out.  Keeping with the theme of things that probably no one will watch, Andrew watched "Friendship" this week, so it gives Kevin a chance to grill him about what he thought of the film. Generally speaking, both gentlemen agree that it's not the best film. It's neither funny nor dramatic. The argument could be made that the actors were very good, arguably too good, but overall, the film itself just is not worth watching.  After a deep breath, Kevin and Andrew talk about the penultimate episode of Alien Earth, which is obviously excellent. There's a lot to unpack here because the guys haven't talked about it for a couple of weeks. Overall, the guys have loved the season so far and are really excited to see where it goes, although there's some hesitation as to whether they can end it properly, knowing that it may not even get a second season. There's a good discussion and, of course, some predictions for the finale, which may or may not have come true. So give it a listen and then go watch the season finale, which just aired.  Kevin closes out the show talking about the series finale of Upload on Amazon Prime. It's a short fourth season, which amounts to a four-part series finale. Overall, it's been a lot of fun to watch. If you started watching from the beginning, you'll be satisfied with the ending. If you haven't watched, it's almost a mash-up of The Good Place and Idiocracy. You have to be in the mood for some silly humor, but it is very creative and a lot of fun, and the comedic acting is on point. So if that is your jam, go give it a watch and enjoy.  As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! His fellow BGB actors adore him, as does she. Risa and Clayton talk about his path and his process here on The Acting Podcast.Ok, so more on Clayton's career… Clayton recently had a breakout role in Weapons, the new Warner Bros. mystery/thriller. The film opened August 8 to a box office debut that surpassed both Fantastic Four and Freaky Friday, following its ultra-rare 100% Rotten Tomatoes score—a distinction only one other horror film has ever achieved. Clayton's standout performance has been making waves online, sparking strong reactions from viewers. In Weapons, he plays Terry, the husband to Andrew (Benedict Wong)—a pivotal, scene-stealing role that marks a defining moment in his career.Clayton's previous credits span standout genre projects across horror and comedy, including American Horror Story, Ratch-ed, The Morning Show, and most recently, the hit A24 slasher MaXXXine. He has recurred on Seal Team. Clayton has also built a robust digital presence through his witty, relatable sketch comedy—writing and starring in videos that consistently rack up millions of views. Fans have affectionately dubbed him the “Larry David of TikTok” for his dry delivery, social spiral moments, and knack for turning everyday discomfort into something deeply funny and deeply relatable. We love his videos and he's shot some of them here at BGB, where nobody is safe from wildly funny and ultimately affectionate spoofing, even Risa!
