Memorable Quotes: "Success, in my eyes, looks like a few very simple things done every day for a long period of time. And so it's going to look like—giving your body the calories it actually needs, when you go to the gym, being there with intent and focus, not just dilly-dallying and lifting the five-pound dumbbells, but challenging yourself for that one hour a day, three days a week, prioritizing your sleep just like you told your kids to, and then doing that over and over again." – Joe Hoye "People should train bulk because different rep ranges are going to serve different purposes. Two things we do know is that as women enter midlife, their bone density is decreasing and their muscle mass is going away. And so lifting heavy with low reps is certainly going to tell your bones to stay strong. That's going to help you stay functional and safe as you age." – Joe Hoye Links Mentioned: FREE Hormone Quiz: https://bit.ly/3wNJOec Midlife Makeover Summit: https://hoyefit.com/pages/midlifemakeoverregistration Enter to win 6 months of free fitness coaching! "A national survey by Cleveland Clinic, published in September 2023, highlights a disconnect between men's perception of their health and their actual health habits. According to the survey, 81% of American men believe they lead a healthy lifestyle. However, the survey results reveal that the habits and behaviors of many men tell a different story. Almost half of men (44%) do not get a yearly physical, 44% do not take care of their mental health, and only half of men said they keep a healthy diet (51%). Additionally, 83% have experienced stress in the last six months, and about a quarter of U.S. men (27%) watch TV for more than five hours per day on average. The survey, which was conducted earlier last year and involved a national sample of 1,000 U.S. males aged 18 and older, was issued as part of Cleveland Clinic's eighth annual educational campaign, MENtion It®. The campaign aims to address the fact that men often do not mention health issues or take steps to prevent them. Survey findings point to stress being a common factor among men. However, 65% of men said they are hesitant to seek professional help for mental health concerns such as stress, anxiety, and depression. Social media habits may contribute to this, with men reporting that they spend an average of 2.3 hours per day scrolling through social media. Those who say they are hesitant to seek professional help for mental health issues are almost twice as likely to spend five or more hours daily on social media (19%). For body transformation and online fitness coach Danny Cavallaro, his motivation to start his program stemmed from personal struggles. He mentioned, “I started this program because I was unhappy and constantly stressed. I was 30 pounds overweight, uncomfortable in my own skin, and nothing I tried seemed to work. I was embarrassed about my body and couldn't take off my shirt at public beaches without feeling insecure. It took me years of trial and error to find out what worked best for me and allowed me to sustain long-term weight loss results. So, I decided to help others in the same situation. I've helped over 100 busy guys lose 15-30 lbs, regain their confidence, and minimize future health risks.” He joined me this week to discuss how men can make their health a top priority and how it can contribute to the overall welfare of their entire lives. Listeners, please welcome Louise Digby to the show, from all the way over from the UK! It is so nice to connect with an international guest like Louise and to hear, unfortunately, that the same problems that exist in America also exist in Europe, especially when it comes to the issues aging women have with losing body fat. In this episode, you will hear us discuss a variety of topics, especially the roadblocks and main reasons for having trouble maintaining your desired body composition. We discuss the foods that cause system wide inflammation and how chronic inflammation influences fat metabolism and causes your body to store extra body fat, especially visceral fat, as well as the difference between visceral fat and subcutaneous fat. You'll also learn about the importance of nurturing a healthy estrogen balance (as well as healthy testosterone balance), why it's so helpful to manage stress when you're trying to lose excess body fat, how chronic stress affects your metabolism, how vitamin D health affects fat metabolism, and actionable tidbits from Louise that will help you lose weight easily. Louise Digby is a BANT registered nutritional therapist, weight loss expert, and the creator of the Nourish Method, an online programme that addresses the lifestyle factors that impact women's fat-burning and the mindset challenges causing self-sabotage. She also hosts the Thriving Metabolism Podcast, which she created to guide and educate women about the nuances around metabolic health, hormones, gut health, and more in the context of weight loss. TIMESTAMPS: What are the roadblocks for losing excess body fat? [00:47] If you are stressed, your metabolism isn't going to work for you. People are doing what they are told to do and not seeing any results. [01:50] Chronic inflammation is a huge contributor to one's inability for burn fat. How does one get into that mess? [06:29] There are some tests that can reveal chronic inflammation. [10:03] Having optimum levels of Vitamin D is important. [13:09] Inflammation is a good thing when it helps us repair and recover. Its uncontrolled inflammation that becomes the problem {19:30] Magnesium is difficult to obtain in today's modern diet because of soil depletion but it is very important for your body. [21:46] Cortisol is the preeminent stress hormone. [22:44] Nutrient deficient foods hinder our immune system from functioning well. [26:47] What's really going on is we are consuming nutrient deficient processed foods that contain edible food-like substances that the body reacts to adversely. [29:56] What are the particular problems females have when they come to Louise's practice? [33:01] When our estrogen is lower, we are more likely to experience insulin resistance so it will be more difficult to manage our blood sugar and therefore manage our weight. [37:40] Why are women not as interested in strength training as opposed to cardio? [39:03] What is the difference between visceral fat, belly fat, and subcutaneous fat? [43:14] What can people do to track their progress besides looking at their scale? The scale is a poor reflection of your overall progress. The conversation explores various aspects of fat loss and provides insights on finding balance, making sacrifices, and allowing indulgences in moderation. It emphasizes the importance of considering the right time for a deficit and taking ownership of actions and expectations. The discussion also delves into plateaus and consistent progress, highlighting the significance of progress photos and measurements. Additionally, the conversation offers tips on making fat loss easier and more consistent, and encourages listeners not to be afraid to eat and put on muscle for a better body composition. Before starting a calorie deficit, it is important to spend time in a maintenance phase to build consistency and ensure adherence to the plan. When starting a deficit, it is recommended to make a conservative initial drop in calories and focus on strength training and adequate protein intake to preserve muscle mass. Diet breaks can be beneficial to improve compliance and protect the relationship with food during a deficit. Today, we are going to talk about those of us who are looking to cut body fat. Now, in order to even be in this place, you'll need to earn your right to get here. Most people who have a lot of weight to lose… they most likely have…. over the span of years and decades… moved less, ate more, lost precious muscle tissue, became very sedentary, lowered their metabolic output or burn (meaning their basal metabolic rate is super low because of their low energy utilizing lifestyle, this is what most lay people refer to as slow metabolism or broken metabolism), and they just want to get this weight off. So what do they do, they get motivated and the move more and eat less… they do a juice cleanse, they eat a ridiculously low amount of food, they start running even though they haven't done so since college, and what happens?? Well they may drop weight quick, but they probably are losing muscle, they are putting a stress on their body that will elicit some push-back and statistics show… eventually they will gain it all back and even more, and the yo yo life continues. So if this is the common, sad, unfortunate path of most people in this situation… what should be done before dropping those calories and increasing their movement??Take a listen and find out.References:Sign up for our weekly newsletter by emailingDamienE585@gmail.com with the subject headline of Newsletter Brain.fm App(First month Free, then 20% off subscription)Discount Code: coachdamiensdCaldera Lab Skin Carewww.calderalab.comDiscount Code: CoachDLinks:IG:@coachdamien_sd@damienrayevans@livinthedream_podcast YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS6VuPgtVsdBpDj5oN3YQTgFB:https://www.facebook.com/coachdamienSD/
