Nibelung destanında, Siegfried'in öyküsünü bulacaksınız.

In this episode, Fr. John begins an account of Friedrich Nietzsche by discussing Richard Wagner, a direct influence on the philosopher whose infidelity with women and famous operatic work, The Ring of the Nibelung, helped inspire the coming age of nihilism.
David presents part 4 of 4 short episodes on the Ring of Power. A Jungian interpretation of Wagner's 4 part Opera inspired by the high German version of Saga of the Volsungs (Nibelungenlied - Song of the Nibelung). This episode has been a long one in the making and it is a long short. It begins with a summary of the final portion of Siegfried's journey, which parallel's Sigurd's journey at the end of Saga of the Volsungs.David includes his interpretations on the archetypes in the story and the underlying meaning of betrayals, curses, and love potions.Jean Shinoda Bolen gave a family system interpretation of Brunhilde's betrayal of the all father, and subsequent betrayal by the hero, as a perspective on patriarchy and the need for love, rather than a drive for power. My interpretation is similar, but rather focused on the archetypes of insecure, immature masculinity that drive the tragic story of Siegfried, and what mature masculinity, that includes the Lover and Warrior archetype could mean.My interpretation particularly focuses on the role of Acceptance, a form of love, as a necessary component to overcome the curse and poison of resentment. In the end, fate happens as it does, and the death of the gods and downfall of the hero is a necessary step for rebirth, growth, true transformation, and individuation.Acknowledgement to Jean Shinoda Bolen's book 'Ring of Power' as the inspiration for this 4 part series.Don Miguel Ruiz's story "The Man Who Didn't Believe In Love" inspired part of my interpretation. It is from his book "The Mastery of Love."Ways to support us:If you have been enjoying our show, please write a 5 star review on itunes to help spread our podcast to a wider audience: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/between-two-ravens-a-norse-mythology-podcast/id1604263830Follow us or leave a message on Instagram:Instagram: (@BetweenTwoRavens): https://www.instagram.com/betweentworavens/Check out David's writing:Prosoche Project (www.prosocheproject.com).Walled Garden (https://thewalledgarden.com/davidalexander)Our podcast is part of The Walled Garden Podcast Network. S4E8 The Ring Cycle: Siegfried (3 of 4) - David presents part 3 of 4 short episodes on the Ring of Power. A Jungian interpretation of Wagner's 4 part Opera inspired by the high German version of Saga of the Volsungs (Nibelungenlied - Song of the Nibelung).Apologies for the delay. Shawn and I have a lot going on in our personal lives. But we hope to get back to recording regular episodes soon.Opera 3, Siegfried presents the hero's journey. The Jungian interpretation of a hero's journey is the development from to true adulthood. From boy to man or the "hero as adult child", as The Ring of Power puts it.David gives his take on "adult children" and personal responsibility and gives an extended summary of Siegfried's hero's journey, including his dwarven foster parent Mime, interference of his grandfather Wotan, and Siegfried's romantic connection to the Valkyrie Brunhilde. This episode is a short summary of the journey of Siegfried, but I believe will give helpful context as Shawn and I return to our deep dive on the Saga of the Volsungs and explore in depth the images and symbols related to the journey of Sigurd the Dragon Slayer.Acknowledgement to Jean Shinoda Bolen's book 'Ring of Power' as the inspiration for this 4 part series.Ways to support us:If you have been enjoying our show, please write a 5 star review on itunes to help spread our podcast to a wider audience: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/between-two-ravens-a-norse-mythology-podcast/id1604263830Follow us or leave a message on Twitter or Instagram:Instagram: (@BetweenTwoRavens): https://www.instagram.com/betweentworavens/Check out David's writing:Prosoche Project (www.prosocheproject.com).Walled Garden (https://thewalledgarden.com/davidalexander)Our podcast is part of The Walled Garden Podcast Network. S4E4 The Ring Cycle: Die Walkure (2 of 4)David presents part 2 of 4 short episodes on the Ring of Power. A Jungian interpretation of Wagner's 4 part Opera inspired by the high German version of Saga of the Volsungs (Nibelungenlied - Song of the Nibelung).Opera 2, Die Walkure (The Valkyrie) presents the interplay of how the gods influence the lives of mortals. Odin wants to create a hero with free will who can obtain the ring of power for him. But if he influenced the lives of mortals, do they really have free will? The Valkyrie Brunhilde is introduced as the archetype of "the female warrior with love." She counters Odin's lust for power as she is inspired by Sigmund's love. But to betray the gods she must pay the ultimate sacrifice. Which is necessary for the birth of our hero…Acknowledgement to Jean Shinoda Bolen's book 'Ring of Power' as the inspiration for this 4 part series.Ways to support us:If you have been enjoying our show, please write a 5 star review on itunes to help spread our podcast to a wider audience: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/between-two-ravens-a-norse-mythology-podcast/id1604263830Follow us or leave a message on Twitter or Instagram:Twitter: (@TwoRavenPodcast): https://twitter.com/TwoRavenPodcastInstagram: (@BetweenTwoRavens): https://www.instagram.com/betweentworavens/Check out David's writing:Prosoche Project (www.prosocheproject.com).
Before there was Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, there was Richard Wagner's The Ring of Nibelung. Infused with ancient Norse and Germanic myths, the composer's epic opera cycle deals in power, corruption, and uncontrollable destruction. At its center is a ring forged from the enchanted riches of the Rhine river. All who look upon it will do anything to possess it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Wilhelm Richard Wagner ( VAHG-nər; German: [ˈʁɪçaʁt ˈvaːɡnɐ] (listen); 22 May 1813 – 13 February 1883) was a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor who is chiefly known for his operas (or, as some of his mature works were later known, "music dramas"). Unlike most opera composers, Wagner wrote both the libretto and the music for each of his stage works. Initially establishing his reputation as a composer of works in the romantic vein of Carl Maria von Weber and Giacomo Meyerbeer, Wagner revolutionised opera through his concept of the Gesamtkunstwerk ("total work of art"), by which he sought to synthesise the poetic, visual, musical and dramatic arts, with music subsidiary to drama. He described this vision in a series of essays published between 1849 and 1852. Wagner realised these ideas most fully in the first half of the four-opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung). Synopsis In 1987, Telarc Records asked the late conductor Lorin Maazel if he would make a purely orchestral distillation of the four operas that make up Richard Wagner's “The Ring of the Nibelung.” Telarc wanted it all to fit on just one CD. Now, with these four Wagner operas clocking in at about 15 hours, that's a slimming-down assignment worthy of The Biggest Loser. Maazel crafted a 75-minute sequence, played without pause, beginning with the opening pages of the first opera and ending with the closing pages of the last, with all the music appearing in the same order as it does in Wagner's four operas. For the Telarc CD release, Maazel recorded his “Ring without Words” with the Berlin Philharmonic. But what had started as a purely studio affair proved an attractive orchestral showcase for other ensembles, so on today's date in 1990, Maazel led the Pittsburgh Symphony in the debut of his “Ring without Words” as a concert hall work. Since then, he has performed it with orchestras ranging from the New York to the Vienna Philharmonic. Maazel confessed he resisted the idea at first. "I said… it would be desecrating a unique masterpiece. But they kept after me.” In the end, Maazel capitulated, but insisted there couldn't be one note by Lorin Maazel. When one instrumentalist shuddered at a particularly abrupt transition, Maazel told him, "Sorry! That's the composer." Music Played in Today's Program Richard Wagner (1813 - 1883) arr. Lorin Maazel (1930 -2014) — Ring without Words (Berlin Philharmonic; Lorin Maazel, cond.) Telarc 80154.
Our heroes delve deep under the earth and confront the Gollum of the second self. The big question to ask in Tolkien's works is WHAT IS THE RING? Well, it is like the Ouroboros the SAMPO in Kalevala (w/Vainamoinen) the ring imagery in Nibelung the Gyges' Ring story in Plato's “Republic” We know that it is Golden (like a mini sun) Continuous (like the Ouroboros) a Treasure that Makes one invisible fits on the finger (not the neck or chest like a hauberk) formed by The Dark Lord Sauron (deception is involved & power) Is it then Related to Time? A metaphor for Seeing behind the curtain? An image of the artistic ability? Something that binds together? Perhaps an answer can be approached by asking What is The World of Gollum? · It is like the world of Grendel's dam in Beowulf · Which itself is based on the mythical world of Midgard and Yggdrasil the World Tree in Norse mythology https://www.worldhistory.org/article/1305/nine-realms-of-norse-cosmology/ https://theheart756621753.files.wordpress.com/2018/10/the-9-worlds-in-mythology.jpg What is the Character of Gollum? We're thrilled to be joined by special guest Niky Horowitz! Niky watched a bunch of Nickelodeon with their grandma in the ‘90s as a kid and, like most of us, feels connected to another place and time by watching Hey Arnold! today. Once the naive, principled punching bag, Eugene discovers his own influence by accident when his hero, Arnie-like action star The Abdicator, turns out to be a phony in “Eugene Goes Bad”. Eugene lets his disappointment and disillusionment turn him into the cool, aloof greaser he never thought he'd become, unaware other kids look up to his example. It's a great, nuanced episode that really gets you thinking about the standards and expectations we set for people in our lives, and how we impact them in turn. In “What's Opera, Arnold?” the kids of PS 118 are sent on an opera field trip to better appreciate the art form. Of course, most of the kids fall asleep (they're in fourth grade!), but in their dreams, Arnold and Helga get to live out their romantic fantasies through the lens of Carmen, Pagliacci, The Ring of the Nibelung, and more classic operatic works. By the time the fat lady sings, they've changed their tune – if only a little bit. Follow Niky and find their work at these links: - https://www.instagram.com/flews3d/ - https://soundcloud.com/flews3d Whether you're a part of the gang or this is your first time on the stoop, we'd really appreciate it if you could leave us a review! “Das Rheingold” is the opening work in a 4-opera cycle, Wagner titled “The Ring of the Nibelungen.” No pun intended, but one of the most striking moments in that opera occurs when the Norse gods Wotan and Loge descend to Nibelheim, where the poor race of Nibelung dwarfs are toiling away under the spell of Alberich, a fellow dwarf possessing a magic gold ring of incredible power – but bearing a terrible curse. Maybe the battery of tuned anvils heard in that scene sparked the imagination of the American composer Christopher Rouse in response to a commission from percussion virtuoso Evelyn Glennie, since the work he wrote for her, which premiered on today’s date in 1998, was titled “Der gerettete Alberich (or, “Alberich Saved”), subtitled "a fantasy for percussion and orchestra on themes of Wagner." “Rather than a concerto,” said Rouse, “[it’s] a fantasy … on themes of Wagner, with the soloist taking on the ‘role’ of Alberich. Much of the material in the work is derived from Wagner’s motifs associated with Alberich, among them the motifs for the curse, the power of gold, the renunciation of love, annihilation, the Nibelungs, and, of course, the Ring itself.”

Lohengrin, WWV 75, is a Romantic opera in three acts composed and written by Richard Wagner, first performed in 1850. The story of the eponymous character is taken from medieval German romance, notably the Parzival of Wolfram von Eschenbach and its sequel, Lohengrin, written by a different author, itself inspired by the epic of Garin le Loherain. It is part of the Knight of the Swan tradition. The opera has inspired other works of art. King Ludwig II of Bavaria named his fairy-tale castle "New Swan Castle", or "Neuschwanstein", after the Swan Knight. It was King Ludwig's patronage that later gave Wagner the means and opportunity to compose, build a theatre for, and stage his epic cycle The Ring of the Nibelung. The most popular and recognizable part of the opera is the Bridal Chorus, better known as "Here Comes the Bride", often played as a processional at weddings in the West. For better or worse, Wagner is often considered the most widely influential figure in the history of music. Around 1900, the phenomenon known as Wagnerism saturated European and American culture. Anarchists, occultists, feminists, and gay rights pioneers saw him as a kindred spirit. Then Adolf Hitler incorporated Wagner into the soundtrack of Nazi Germany, and the composer came to be defined by his ferocious antisemitism. In this livestreamed conversation, music critics Alex Ross and Ann Powers took a nuanced look at Wagner, with reflections from Ross’s book, Wagnerism: Art and Politics in the Shadow of Music. They discussed how the composer of such colossal creations as The Ring of the Nibelung, Tristan und Isolde, and Parsifal came to have such a many-sided legacy. In a journey of passionate discovery, they invited us to consider how artistry can be undone by an ideology of hate—and urging us toward a more honest idea of how art acts on the world. Alex Ross has been the music critic for The New Yorker since 1996. His first book, the international bestseller The Rest Is Noise: Listening to the Twentieth Century, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and won a National Book Critics Circle Award. His second book, the essay collection Listen to This, received an ASCAP Deems Taylor Award. He was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2008 and a Guggeinheim Fellow in 2015. Ann Powers is NPR Music’s critic and correspondent. For better or worse, Wagner is the most widely influential figure in the history of music. Around 1900, the phenomenon known as Wagnerism saturated European and American culture. Such colossal creations as The Ring of the Nibelung, Tristan und Isolde, and Parsifal were models of formal daring, mythmaking, erotic freedom, and mystical speculation. A mighty procession of artists, including Virginia Woolf, Thomas Mann, Paul Cézanne, Isadora Duncan, and Luis Buñuel, felt his impact. Anarchists, occultists, feminists, and gay-rights pioneers saw him as a kindred spirit. Then Adolf Hitler incorporated Wagner into the soundtrack of Nazi Germany, and the composer came to be defined by his ferocious antisemitism. For many, his name is now almost synonymous with artistic evil. In Wagnerism, Alex Ross restores the magnificent confusion of what it means to be a Wagnerian. A pandemonium of geniuses, madmen, charlatans, and prophets do battle over Wagner's many-sided legacy. As readers of his brilliant articles for The New Yorker have come to expect, Ross ranges thrillingly across artistic disciplines, from the architecture of Louis Sullivan to the novels of Philip K. Dick, from the Zionist writings of Theodor Herzl to the civil-rights essays of W.E.B. Du Bois, from O Pioneers! to Apocalypse Now. In many ways, Wagnerism tells a tragic tale. An artist who might have rivaled Shakespeare in universal reach is undone by an ideology of hate. Still, his shadow lingers over twenty-first century culture, his mythic motifs coursing through superhero films and fantasy fiction. Neither apologia nor condemnation, Wagnerism is a work of passionate discovery, urging us toward a more honest idea of how art acts in the world. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/pbliving/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pbliving/support

Following the death of the philosopher, author and self-professed Wagner fan, Sir Roger Scruton, this is one of our favourite talks he did for the series. As Wagner's Ring – that huge and controversial cycle of operas - went on tour around the UK, Roger talked about why The Ring is absolutely a story for our time. "I have loved The Ring and learned from it for over 50 years and for me, it is quite simply the truth about our world - but the truth expressed by means of music of unquestionable authority and supreme melodic and harmonic power". The talk was first broadcast in 2016. Producer: Adele Armstrong

Marc Eliot Stein and Bud Parr, two software developers and literary bloggers from New York City, sat through all 18.5 hours of Richard Wagner's "Ring des Nibuleng" cycle at the Metropolitan Opera this year, and lived to tell the tale. Actually, we were both very impressed. In our latest exploration of opera's often misunderstood literary side, we focus on the dramatic and mythical aspects of Wagner's masterpiece, and also talk about feral children, Fellini movies, #MeToo (Wagner has problems here), Johnny Cash, anti-semitism, the wonderful soprano Christine Goerke who kills it as Brunnhilde, red Mustangs and much more.
Jorge Luis Borges's story "Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius" is a metaphysical detective story, an armchair conspiracy thriller, and a masterpiece of weird fiction. In this tale penned by a true literary magician, Phil and JF see an opportunity to talk about magic, hyperstition, non-linear time, and the power of metaphysics to reshape the world. When Phil questions his co-host's animus against idealist doctrines, the discussion turns to dreams, cybernetics, and information theory, before reaching common ground with the dumbfound appreciation of radical mystery.
Da gab es also diesen Siegfried. Der Held Siegfried also will eine Frau. Also tief Luft holen, es geht weiter. Kriemhild ist jetzt allein. Sie hat keinen Mann mehr. Also muss ein neuer Mann her. Sie will Rache.

My favorite moment in the Ring of the Nibelung occurs in the second act of Die Walküre. Brünnhilde visits Siegmund to tell him that he will die in battle and that she will take him to Valhalla. This is the famous “Todesverkündigung,” one of the most famous moments from the trilogy.
Look folks, your hosts are old, okay? They're from the twentieth century. They remember video tapes and also when it was a hip idea that Tony Stark was dating Shannon Elizabeth. But they're not as old as Norse mythology, so they're going to stand next to Thor: The Dark World in public just to seem young and with-it by comparison and see how that goes. What's the scale of technological development on a world that has laser guns but still uses swords and ox-drawn carts? Why is Natalie Portman's character, a doctor of physics with three degrees, written to speak like a tweenish babywoman? And if you are investing a few billion dollars into twenty movies and five or six television series to build up to an epic story about the Infinity Stones, why the hell can't you get even the colour of the stones right!? Anyway, enjoy this second foray into Thor, hey? Or else Andrew and Anthony have to commit Norse Seppuku. PS: The amazing Ring Cycle comic we are talking about which we did not have at hand and subsequently forgot all the details of is The Ring of Nibelung by P. Craig Russell (and not Charles Vess. Sorry. But you should go check it out.

The first complete commercial Ring of the Nibelung was presented over several years. Georg Solti conducted a cast of absolutely phenomenal singers, and I thought those of you not acquainted with the set, or with Wagner's masterpiece in general, might enjoy some samples. The artists include: Birgit Nilsson,Regine Crespin,Christa Ludwig, Gottlob Frick, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (Gunther),George London, Hans Hotter and Eberhard Waechter (Donner.). NOTE: When you arrive at the Donner hammer blow near the end of the Rheingold, be sure to warn your family and neighbors that no one killed anyone.
I present highlights from the English National Opera Ring of the Nibelung under Reginald Goodall. The singing is superb, but I really cannot understand the English translation. Perhaps you are better than I at deciphering what they are saying, especially with the ladies' voices. The cast includes: Rita Hunter - Brunnhilde Norman Bailey -Wotan Margaret Curphey- Sieglinde Alberto Remedios - Siegfried Anne Collins - Erda Derek Hammond-Stroud -Alberich Aage Haugland - Hagen (75 min.)
Highlights from two analyses of the great Wagner Ring of the Nibelung. The first is by Speight Jenkins, using scenes from the 1953 Bayreuth Ring, and the second is by Deryck Cook, with material taken from the London Ring Set under Solti. Finally, the legendary Ring Analysis as performed by the hilarious Anna Russell. ("She's not making this up, you know!" (68 min.)
