Sasha Feiler is the only funny person to ever come out of Siberia, and you'll have to take her word for it since Siberia is the last place you'd want to visit! This week, host Gray Jones interviews comedy writer, performer & Script Anatomy instructor Sasha Feiler. She fled Siberia and came to New York at nineteen with $40 in her pocket. At some point, after her paperwork got messed up, she became an illegal immigrant. Which was super fun (it wasn't). She graduated Brooklyn College on a full Presidential Scholarship with an MFA in Television Production and worked as an editor and producer at CNN. She quickly realized there weren't a lot of laughs at CNN so she quit and moved to Los Angeles where she started performing and writing on improv and sketch teams at UCB, iO West and Second City. A Script Anatomy alum—check out her testimonial video about Structure lab—she has written for "Robot Chicken" (Adult Swim) and was a fellow at The Colony, A3 (formerly Abrams) Agency's incubator for emerging writers. The execs at The Colony attached themselves as Producers to her pilot "Queen Bitch" about a socially challenged dog trainer. Sasha currently hosts a comedy podcast "Shut Up I Love It," competes in dog agility with her Champion Entlebucher Spoon and makes hospital visits with her therapy other Entlebucher Shark. These days, she rarely visits Siberia, using the lame excuse of “Once it's below 72 degrees, I'm dead.” She is repped by Bellevue Management, you can find her on IG @shutupiloveit1, or on Twitter at @shutupiloveit1. The first in his family to go to college, Brian received his Bachelor's Degree in Finance from New Mexico State University and later earned his law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law. He has practiced law since 2001, but his top priority has always been one of service and a desire to give back to his community. "Revealed through original songs that are intimate, evocative and compelling, Ada Pasternak is a strikingly modern singer-songwriter and violinist who propels an instrument from the 16th Century into the future.  As she takes the stage with violin in hand, audiences expecting a traditional approach instead witness Ada as she plucks, strums, and creates a vibrant counterpart to her beguiling vocals and consummate musicianship.     Born in Moscow, Russia Ada Pasternak came to the U.S. with her family when she was six years old.  With musician parents, her childhood was steeped in classical music as she developed into a virtuoso violinist, winning competitions as a soloist and earning standing ovations from audiences of 2,000+.  Her life and career were dramatically altered when severe tendinitis and overuse made playing the instrument impossible.  For two years, she lived as a normal teenager, not knowing if music would ever be a part of her life again.  She discovered Berklee College of Music, and at the last possible moment submitted an application.  As she slowly picked up the violin and prepared one of her favorite pieces to perform at the audition, it was as if she had never stopped playing.  After her father drove her to Boston and accompanied her on piano, to her amazement she was awarded the school’s highest honor; A Presidential Scholarship (a full ride)    At Berklee, Ada was intrigued by the diversity of students and styles of music. “It was so fascinating to see all of these young, curious musicians from all over the world coming together to make music and learn,” she relates.  Through playing with such an eclectic group of musicians, Ada absorbed a variety of genres such as Pop, Jazz, Bluegrass, and even joined a Mariachi band." ~ www.adasmusic.com   Dianna catches up with Ada the Violin Girl calling in from Los Angeles Saturday APRIL 27th, 2019 during Radio Memphis Around the World right here. Denise Tryon, Associate Professor of Horn at the College Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinatti and former Fourth Horn with the Philadelphia Orchestra, has built a wonderful career which combines teaching, performing, and expanding the repertoire of her instrument through active commissions.  Denise is a trail blazer in our field!  She has asked herself the hard questions and has not been afraid to step off the beaten path and shape her unique, meaningful, and impactful career.  In this episode, we discuss: Her journey from student, to top-five orchestra member, soloist, and pedagogue The distinction between warmup and daily routine (hint: a warmup is a small part of a daily routine) What a good routine covers – the various fundamentals of your instrument as well as extended techniques How to set up your own routine – something that works really well for you What mindful, efficient, practice is to her: o   Be demanding but kind with yourself o   How to organize it (I'm loving the “55 and out” technique!) o   How to problem solve o   What “swear” words she will not allow in her studio (and they are not what you're thinking!) o   How we need to let go and go with the flow o   The four elements we need to address in the practice room – technical, physical, musical, and mental Audition Mode and audition preparation How musicians need to figure out how to find our own voice and market themselves How we must strive for excellence, not perfection “Change your mind and your body will follow” “Be demanding and caring” when you practice “Give to yourself first”     ALL ABOUT guest: Website: http://denisetryon.com/ Low Horns Unite: http://denise-tryon.thinkific.com/courses/low-horns-unite Audition Mode: http://auditionmode.com/ YouTube channels: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-NXdXmBOZ08O4ijSX6wTzg Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dt_lowhorn/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DeniseTryonHorn/   Her album, So Low Doctor Beat Metronome by Boss Mechanical Metronome (not the one she mentions) Horn Berp – Buzz Extension Resistance Piece The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music by Victor L. Today we continue our series of Conversations with the Candidates with Baltimore City State’s Attorney, Marilyn Mosby. She is running for re-election in the Democratic primary that takes place on the 26th of this month. Early voting begins on Thursday. She is opposed by two other candidates, Ivan Bates and Thiru Vignarajah. The winner of the primary will run unopposed in the general election. Marilyn Mosby drew international attention when she indicted six Baltimore police officers in the police-custody death of Freddie Gray in 2015. None of those indictments resulted in a conviction, but Ms. Mosby points to a 95% conviction rate to date for her office overall. The State’s Attorney’s office prosecuted more than 41,000 cases last year. In addition to the violence that rocked Baltimore following the funeral of Freddie Gray, the city's police department has been in nearly constant turmoil since Marilyn Mosby was elected in 2014. There have been four police commissioners in the past 3 1/2 yrs. The city and the police department are under a consent decree with the Department of Justice. And eight members of the elite Gun Trace Task Force were convicted of running an extensive criminal enterprise. The leader of the GTTF was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Wednesday. Of the more than 2000 criminal cases associated with the convicted officers, the State's Attorney's office reports that 220 cases have already been dismissed. Ms. Mosby oversees a staff of 400 employees -- including more than 200 attorneys. Her annual salary is the highest of any Baltimore City official. She received a Presidential Scholarship from Tuskegee University where she graduated with a BA in Political Science. She holds a law degree from the Boston College Law School. She is 38 years old. She is married to 40th District Delegate Nick Mosby, and they live in Reservoir Hill with their two daughters. Tom's conversation with Ms. Mosby, like all his previous interviews with candidates in the June 26 primary, is Live-Streamed on WYPR's Facebook page.
