Confidence vs. CompetenceIn the latest episode of Workforce, Dr. Grace Lordan takes us on an intriguing journey through the behavioural science of workplace success. The conversation opens with a bold statement: confidence often carries more weight than competence when it comes to career advancement, but is this fair? And more importantly, is it beneficial for individuals and organisations in the long run? Grace and her expert guests delve into the historical context of confidence as a signal for competence, discussing its evolutionary roots and its shaky relevance in today's complex professional landscape. They also shine a light on the power of rivalry as a motivator and how technology can help identify true competence, leveling the playing field for all job seekers.Listen, learn, and let's transform the workplace together. As a reminder, if you are a mid-career high-achiever with the goal of entering the C-suite, let's talk about my new coaching program, Highly Promotable. Here's the link to learn more: https://exclusivecareercoaching.com/highly-promotable Today, we're talking about how employers are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in job interviews – and what that means for you as a job seeker. AI is being used in the interview process via Natural Language Processing (NLP), chatbots, sentiment analysis, facial expression recognition and visual perception, speech recognition, tone analysis, and decision-making. Let's start with some definitions: Artificial intelligence:Computer systems that can perform tasks that normally would require human intelligence. Artificial Intelligence-trained video interviewing technology analyzes facial features, moods, expressions, and intonations of the interviewees to select the most suitable candidates. Speech recognition, personality insights, tone analysis, the relevance of answers, emotional recognition, and psycholinguistics are used in this hiring process that uses technology automation. The best matches are shared with human recruiters along with AI's own notes on individual candidates. Chatbot:An artificial intelligence feature that is short for “chatterbot.” A chatbot is a software or program that simulates human conversations through voice commands and text chats. Chatbots are used for answering initial questions applicants have and to conduct preliminary “screening” interviews. Immediate feedback may be provided to the candidates. Natural language processing (NLP):The interaction between humans and computers using natural language. AI's machine learning skills derive meaning and understanding from language as it is spoken by humans. The most common uses of NLP in the market today include chatbots, personal assistants (such as Siri and Alexa), predictive text, and language translation. What AI tools are available to employers? There are at least four categories of tools: Video Conferencing ToolsEmployers often use video conferencing tools including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet to conduct remote AI job interviews. AI Powered Interview PlatformsSpecialized platforms like HireVue, Pymetrics, and Mya Systems use AI technology to conduct interviews. These platforms employ natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning algorithms to analyze candidates' responses, assess their skills, and provide insights to employers. Online Assessment PlatformsOnline assessment platforms like TalentScored, eSkill, or CodinGame offer AI-related assessment tests and coding challenges specifically designed for evaluating candidates' AI knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and programming skills. Coding PlatformsFor technical positions, employers may use coding platforms such as HackerRank, Codility, or LeetCode. These platforms allow candidates to write and execute code, solve coding problems, and assess their programming skills. How should you prepare for an AI interview? This from Talview.com's website: “Candidates should prepare for an AI video interview the same way they would for a face-to-face interview. They must know everything there is to know about the company beforehand; look up the company website, Google news, press releases, and understand what the company and the industry are all about.“Candidates can also make a list of questions that they would like to ask their prospective employer. Practice makes perfect when it comes to an AI video interview. Candidates can make a list of expected questions and practice their answers. Once the video interview begins, candidates will not be able to stop, erase, or edit the interview and must, therefore, be prepared well in advance.“On the day of the interview, candidates must dress professionally. Position themselves in a straight-back chair and make sure the camera angle focuses waist up.“Although an AI video interview is recorded, it is for all purposes conducted just as a face-to-face interview would. So, candidates should sell their candidacy based on the company's needs and let the employer know how they will meaningfully contribute to their organization.“Finally, candidates are asked to keep calm and exude confidence through their body language.” The bottom line is this: There's nothing new that an AI interview does – it asks the same questions as a human interviewer would. But the deep analysis that goes into the assessment of an interview is beyond human undertaking. The speed, accuracy, and convenience of AI recruitment and AI video interviewing are very valuable. It's impossible that AI interviews will go off the grid – if anything, we will see an increase in its use. DIY vs DFYI'm going to combine the DIY and the DFY for this episode. If you want to improve your interview skills on your own, I recommend Yoodli – a free site that allows you to respond to the system's questions or input your own. Yoodli will help you with things like eye contact, use of filler words, and other vocal disrupters. If you would like human help with your interview preparation, my interview coaching program includes working with Yoodli + 2, 1-hour coaching sessions. In addition to Yoodli's help, you'll work with me to develop strategies to approach difficult and behavioral interview questions, such as “What is your greatest weakness?” “Tell me about yourself.” “Tell me about a time when…”

On the eighth episode of Enterprise Software Innovators, hosts Evan Reiser (Abnormal Security) and Saam Motamedi (Greylock Partners) talk with Gary Reiner, former CIO of General Electric and a current operating partner at General Atlantic, a global growth equity firm with over $79 billion of assets under management. While at GE, Gary was an executive leader for almost 20 years, and an early advocate for implementing SaaS applications during his 14 year tenure as CIO. Today, he sits on the board of several GA portfolio companies including Atera, Devo, Evisort, JumpCloud, Pymetrics, ThreatLocker, Vast Data, and Zoomin. In this conversation, Gary shares why he believes the best business process wins, his perspective on packaged solutions, and the meaning behind “lean before digitize”.Quick hits from Gary:On how technology and business processes need to work together: “Technology is there to support processes. We used to have a saying at GE, ‘lean before digitize.' What that means is you need to do a ton of work improving the process before you roll out technology. We had actually looked at a lot of successes and failures within the work that we had done in IT at GE. And it was pretty much binary where if we had leaned processes first and then attached technology to it, it was successful. And if we had tried to just take the technology that was there and support an unimproved process, it was a failure all the time.”On building software in-house or using a partner: “During my 20 years at GE, if you took the most proprietary thing that we did, it was developing the inside of an aircraft engine. It was the single most sophisticated thing requiring incredibly high IQ people doing very, very sophisticated things. And yet when you looked for software that they needed, in order to develop those engine parts, there were at least three different software solutions they could use. Someone who was more NIH would say, "We need to build this, because it's strategic to us." That's not the strategic part of it. The tool was not the strategic part. The strategic part was the knowledge of the engineers that were designing it, not the tool itself.”Gary's advice to startup SaaS founders: “If you're a startup building software to support processes, whether it's a selling process, manufacturing process, service process, make sure you understand what the best practices are in that case that you're supporting, so that when good customers are leaning their processes, they default to your solution.” Recent book recommendation: The Order of Time by Carlo Rovelli--Like what you hear? Maybe we should have named this episode Three Acquisitions and a Vendor Moving to Crazy Town? Remember the '80s movie "Three Men and a Baby"? This episode could be called "Three Acquisitions and a Vendor Who's Lost Their Damned Mind!" Silkroad Technologies acquired Entelo, Harver bought pymetrics and Mitratech gobbled up TalentReef. Can you guess which acquisition we like? Gotta listen. Then we take a trip to Crazy Town, where old-timey job distribution service provider eQuest has made the mother of all pivots, and the boys can't quite make sense of it (but want a hit of whatever they're smoking'). Oh, and Home Depot ends the show with a bit of sanity and common sense. Enjoy!

This week, we're super excited to have Priyanka Jain, CEO and Co-Founder at Evvy. Founded in 2020, Evvy is on a mission to radically reinvent how we understand and treat the female body, starting with the vaginal microbiome. Prior to Evvy, Priyanka was the Head of Product at Pymetrics for four years and earned her Bachelor's degree at Stanford University. In July 2021, Evvy raised a $5M seed round led by General Catalyst. Evvy was founded to serve the unmet needs of 30% of women in the US. The vaginal microbiome is one of those aforementioned signals as the cause of some of the most common conditions in women — yeast infections, recurrent UTIs, bacterial vaginosis, aerobic vaginitis, cytolytic vaginosis, etc. Not only are these conditions highly prevalent, affecting over 30% of women every single year, but these conditions are extremely debilitating to physical, emotional, and mental health and highly stigmatized. Vaginal infections have incredibly outdated diagnostics and treatments, as well as one of the highest recurrence rates in medicine

Welcome to the RecruitingDaily Podcast. Today I have someone on the show that I've always had a lot of respect for, and we're going to talk about a topic that's right up her alley (and something that's really interesting to me.) We will be talking about AI, Diversity, and hiring more fairly.Frida Polli, Ph.D., is the CEO and co-founder of Pymetrics. Prior to that, she was an academic scientist at Harvard and MIT studying cognitive science.Pymetrics leverages advances in behavioral science, cognitive science, and machine learning to match people to the best jobs with accuracy and also without bias.
Frida Polli, CEO and co-founder of Pymetrics, passes the mic in our final episode of the season to We Are Rosie's own Jessie Kernan, Head of Strategy and Insights as well as Executive Consultant for Outside Wave, a marketing & business consultancy for progressive and purpose-driven brands and agencies. CXR Announcer 0:00Welcome to the CXR channel, our premier podcast for talent acquisition and talent management. Listen in as the CXR community discusses a wide range of topics focused on attracting, engaging and retaining the best talent. We're glad you're here. Chris Hoyt, CXR 0:17Hello, I'm Chris Hoyt, president of CareerXroads. you've joined us for another eXpert Tease segment of our CXR podcast that can be found and subscribed to on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, iHeart Radio and all the other usual places. And while we do a few different specials like our Uncorked broadcast, which is sort of like drunk history for HR, and our new Moments, That Matter series, where we kind of talk about tough topics within the realm of prejudice and racism. This is a weekly quick hit conversation with industry leaders and practitioners who are sharing a life or career lesson, sort of a hands on how to, if you will, with us in just 10 to 15 minutes now, the topics that were decided on an advanced by hundreds of talent acquisition leaders from around the world, covering a range of subjects such as innovation leadership, DE&I, employee wellness, or even like today, ethics and talent acquisition and hiring. So if you've joined us live, which anyone can do, you can both listen to and participate via the chat window on your screen, we're hoping you'll add a question or two. And if we've time, we'll try to get them answered here in the broadcast. If we run out of time, we'll address them in our free and open to the public exchange hosted by CareerXroads at CareerXroads, CXR.works/talenttalks. Now, today, I've got with me, Frida Polli, who has a PhD in neuro psychology and an MBA from Harvard, and is the co founder and CEO of Pymetrics, where their entire mission is to make hiring and internal mobility, more predictive and less bias through advanced technology now, Frida, I have been a fan of your work for years, as you know, we work hard to try to stay in touch and keep up with you. And the difference that you and your teams of pi metrics are having in your space. Welcome to the broadcast. Frida Polli, Pymetrics 1:54Thanks, Chris. Happy to be here. Chris Hoyt, CXR 1:56So the topic we want to take a stab at today is something that given our current societal challenges, not just in the United States, but around the world has really put a bright spotlight on within the realm of what we do right within talent, and that is ethics and bias in hiring. So I'd really like to get your take and ask for you to share one thing that you believe our listeners should be aware of in regards to how tech is helping to level the playing field for talent and HR leaders today. Frida Polli, Pymetrics 2:21Sure. It's hard to condense, condense it into one thing, Chris? So I'll try. I think bottom line, I think, I would say this, that technology can be designed to level the playing field and mitigate bias. And, you know, I metrics we we do that we've been doing that since the beginning, we've built the platform to be a ground up, you know, from the ground up. At the goal, Ai platform, we selected on bias data, we pretest all of our algorithms for disparate impact before we release them, we don't release algorithms, if they have disparate impact, we test them after they get deployed. We've had a third party audit, by Krista Wilson at Northeastern, so we've like done, you know, pretty much as as much as you could do in order to build an unbiased platform, however, and therefore, you know, we we feel very confident that we level the playing field in many ways for all of our clients that use us. And you know, that's what the results show. I think what I will say is that it's not as bright and optimistic a picture as all that because, unfortunately, there is just and it was just always boggles my mind when this happens. There's just a lot of false advertising out there, meaning there is a there are a lot of tech platforms.

In this episode, we are sharing our latest webinar, the second in a series of dialogues on COVID-19. This was an enlightening discussion as our panellists, Vincent Vuillard from FutureWork Studio and Michelle Hancic from Pymetrics, shared their view on how COVID-19 might fuel the next wave of innovation and its impact on the future of work. Here are some important topics that have been highlighted during the webinar: 1. Working from Home vs Working Anywhere - the changing landscape of where and when work is done, what it means for the future of the office. 2. Who owns the talent - COVID-19 has seen unprecedented collaboration between organisations which is challenging the traditional mindset that employees belong to the organisation. 3. Diversity & Inclusion - We are seeing women and minority groups losing their jobs at a faster rate than men. How can we address these challenges? 4. Mindset - Linear vs exponential shift, challenging the mindset around how work is done. Will COVID-19 result in a long-lasting change or will we fall back into old patterns? Modern society has told us to be very selective in seeking romantic partners. We're told to be our authentic selves, and swipe through quickly until we find someone who will be our perfect fit. As a result, dating apps have grown exponentially over the last few years. Unfortunately, this level of support has not transferred over to our careers even though we spend so much of our lives working. Frida Polli, CEO of pymetrics, is on a mission to help you find your perfect career fit in today's job market. While getting her MBA at Harvard University, Frida had a front row seat to her peers' career struggles and her own experiences of hiring bias as a 38-year-old single mother. However, instead of becoming a victim to the system, she decided to do something about it. Using her decades of experience in academic neuroscience, she founded Pymetrics, an artificial-intelligence driven tech platform to match job candidates with their perfect job fit, while removing hiring and career development biases. They currently work with over 100 enterprise clients and job-seekers globally.

In the day and age of Netflix, Spotify and Amazon -- platforms that take in information about you and give you personalized recommendations that seem to know you better than you know yourself – where was the equivalent for jobs? Netflix’s movie recommendations are not based on their “back of the movie” blurbs. instead, they analyze movies based on deep analysis of traits and then match you based on the traits you like in movies. So why are we still evaluating people based on their “blurbs,” i.e. their resumes? Why was no one applying this powerful technology to help us make one of our most important decisions – what we do with our careers? — Frida Polli, Pymetrics CEO We know that algorithms have a tendency to mirror the biases from society. In this episode, we talked with Michelle Hancic, Head of Industrial and Organisational Psychology for APAC at Pymetrics about what the company is doing to bring solutions in this area and what the future holds in respect of AI in HR and other industries. Pymetrics, a New York start-up, is working to eliminate all the “interview bias” and “educational pedigree bias” inherent in the current recruitment process. It makes software to help companies evaluate job applicants, replacing flawed methods like campus recruiting and résumé screens with a series of neuroscience-based games that are intended to be nondiscriminatory.
Did you ever wonder how Artificial Intelligence fits in during your job search process? What's Pymetrics? Behavioral science and artificial intelligence can enable recruiters and candidates to find a job that matches their skills and potential. Frida Polli, CEO and Founder of Pymetrics explained how behavioral science can be used to get insights from a candidate that we would not get from a resume. We talked about how games based on neuroscience can help candidates find a job. Frida also explained ways in which a recruiting can function like a recommendation engine.
In today's episode, I am honored to be joined by Kelly Trindel, Ph.D of Pymetrics to talk about the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science in the employment recruitment process, and whether machines will be replacing us.

Founded by Harvard/MIT-trained PhDs, pymetrics uses behavioral science data and AI to help global clients like Unilever, Accenture and LinkedIn make their hiring and internal mobility more predictive and less biased. pymetrics replaces the resume as a first-pass filter by assessing candidates based on their true potential -- their inherent cognitive and emotional make-up. Using algorithms that are trained on high-performing employees at a company, pymetrics builds a trait profile of a company's top performers to select best fit talent. These algorithms are then audited to remove any gender or ethnic bias. pymetrics also serves as a common application for candidates, ensuring that everyone finds their best-fit job, regardless of where they apply. With over 80 enterprise clients and offices in NYC, London, Sydney and Singapore, pymetrics is powering the future of hiring: efficient, predictive, and bias-free. https://www.pymetrics.com https://twitter.com/pymetrics https://www.facebook.com/pymetrics

Unconscious bias is a huge problem in the workplace, especially in areas like recruitment, promotion, and performance management as well as being a major barrier in efforts to improve diversity and inclusion. Whilst training and awareness can help, as humans we have inherent unconscious biases. So how can technology data and science help? And what steps do you need to take to minimise bias through the use of technologies like AI rather than to perpetuate it? That's the topic for this week's podcast where my guest is Frida Polli co-founder and CEO of pymetrics, where we discuss how AI and behavioural science can reduce bias in recruiting. In our conversation Frida and I discuss: Why recruiting is broken and how AI and behavioural science can help to fix it We talk about the ethical issues we need to think about when using AI to support hiring and people decisions We talk about the bold initiative pymetrics has taken to open-source it's code as well as talking about the challenges involved in being a female CEO and founder of a successful HR tech company Finally like with all our guests we also look into the crystal ball and ponder what the role of HR will be in 2025 This episode is a must-listen for people working or interested in recruiting, HR technology, behavioural science and people analytics as well as diversity and inclusion. Trailblazers Talk with Dr Frida Polli, Chief Executive Officer at pymetrics by Infosys Ltd.
Frida Polli is the founder of Pymetrics, a startup that uses algorithms to reduce hiring bias through software. The software uses neuroscience-based games and cutting-edge AI to reinvent the way companies attract, select and retain talent. It also helps job seekers match to jobs best suited for their strengths, personalities and capabilities. Companies utilizing Pymetrics during the hiring process include Unilever, LinkedIn, Tesla and Accenture. The organization has received press from The New York Times to The Economist and Wall Street Journal. And it works. Data from Pymetrics is showing that job offers and retention rates have increased for the organizations using its services. From a job seeker standpoint, many of us have started jobs that, in hindsight, weren’t the best fit for our personality types. With Pymetrics, applicants are tested through a series of online games for a certain set of cognitive and emotional traits. The games are put together to help a candidate find a job that’s a great fit! And, this is all done through a common application, removing hiring bias from the hiring equation. In today’s episode of I Want Her Job The Podcast, Frida talks about how AI and new approaches to hiring can transform how candidates apply to – and are accepted to – jobs. AI also improves the job application and matching process in a massive way. She also shares how observing the candidate hiring process while earning her MBA at Harvard gave her the idea for Pymetrics. We also have an honest conversation about her early influences, strengths and weaknesses. Listen in to hear how Frida is boldly leading a massively exciting hiring shift in our society.

HR Happy Hour 330 - Why is Hiring Still So Hard? (And How to Make it Easier) Host: Steve Boese Guest: Frida Polli, CEO and Co-Founder of Pymetrics Sponsored by Virgin Pulse This week on the HR Happy Hour Show, Steve is joined by Frida Polli, CEO and Co-Founder of Pymetrics, a company using neuroscience and AI to help match candidate with jobs. On the show, Frida shared her path from earning her PhD in Neuroscience to taking on the problem of hiring - and trying to solve or at least improve and modernize the traditional hiring process. Frida shared how traditional approaches to hiring - resumes that become the first screening tool, common methods of interviewing - 'Tell me about a time when...', and relying on homogenous internal networks and referrals to fill roles are not the most effective, fair, and optimal ways to best match candidates with jobs. The first year failure rates of candidates being so high bears this out. Pymetrics have taken on this problem with a modern, science-based and technology-driven approach that helps both organizations and candidates find their best fit and match. Rather than rely on traditional tools and methods like personality and cognitive tests, they use a different way of tapping into these traits by looking at behaviors, and leveraging modern technology - machine learning and AI - in order to help match the traits of high-performing incumbent employees with candidates by putting both groups through the same tests and comparing the results. The bottom line: technology is advancing and helping to make hiring easier after all. This was a really interesting conversation - thanks so much to Frida for joining us.
