Like Batman & Robin, Lennon & McCartney, or Ben & Jerry, we all love a good partnership. Just before the festivities got under way, Chris got together with some old friends to announce a very special partnership & the announcement of their new seamlees, integration. S4labour and Peoplebank work with some of hospitality's top names. By sharing the people data collected from the ATS to the Workforce Management via a seamless API integration, S4labour and Peoplebank's integration saves you time from duplicating work. Once a member of staff has been hired and added to the system, they will appear on the S4labour system ready to be scheduled. Now with the enhancement built, you can share your employee's contracts automatically via the API, which means no more manual uploads and reduces compliance risk. Please reach out to either Richard Or David if you need to know more, Enjoy!

Cytora is well known in London and increasingly in the US too, as providing analytics for insurers - founded in 2014 and with some well-known clients including Allianz, Beazley and Markel - this is another company that's made the transition from start-up to scale-up. Richard Hartley is the Co-founder and CEO. In this episode you will discover why the company pivoted from its original premise of sourcing data to help with commercial underwriting pricing - to its new solution, which is making underwriters' lives better, improving, as Richard puts it, how information glides through companies. You will also hear: How Richard and his team refocused the business when they realised that it's not the lack of data that is often holding insurers back, but too much data and data that's hard to organise. When insurers should be making decisions to buy versus build their own technology Some of the differences between those of you in the US compared to us here in the UK. When it's better for hiring to go and find people with fresh ideas from outside the industry or tap into the experts from within Which insurance company - and Cytora client - has a goal of getting 80% of its insurance submissions managed with straight-through processing - untouched by human hands And finally - you can't do everything so how do you say no to your client? Chris & Kelsey watch some pretty bad Halloween movies, unfortunately. There is yelling. The Classic Film: Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995) "Six years after Michael Myers last terrorized Haddonfield, he returns there in pursuit of his niece, Jamie Lloyd, who has escaped with her newborn child, for which Michael and a mysterious cult have sinister plans” (IMDb.com). It happened. We've been mostly forgiving of the Halloween sequels, but 6—with its magic runes and nonsense plot—is absolutely the worst. The Modern Film: Halloween Ends (2022) "The saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode comes to a spine-chilling climax in this final installment of this trilogy” (IMDb.com). Despite giving us something we didn't know we needed (a smiling Laurie Strode), Halloween Ends decides to cap off the entire series by being mostly about some brand new character you don't like killing a bunch of other people you don't like. CW: Child Abuse/Molestation, Rape, Suicide It's Creepy Bromance Week on Pod Sematary! Chris & Kelsey have been keeping the wrong sort of friends lately. The Classic Film: Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) "Arriving in Chicago, Henry moves in with ex-con acquaintance Otis and starts schooling him in the ways of the serial killer” (IMDb.com). This first-time outing from John McNaughton is well-directed and features a killer performance from Michael Rooker, but it certainly isn't for everyone. It's what Chris might call "effective stuff" or... "compelling stuff." The Modern Film: Creep (2014) "A young videographer answers an online ad for a one-day job in a remote town to record the last messages of a dying man” (IMDb.com). Chris & Kelsey try a double helping of the Stephen King adaptation and start bleeding from all sorts of places. The Original: Firestarter (1984) "A couple who participated in a potent medical experiment gain telepathic ability and then have a child who is pyrokinetic” (IMDb.com). Some wonky bits aside, an absolutely stacked cast turns out one of (in our minds) the actually good Stephen King adaptations. The Remake: Firestarter (2022) "A young girl tries to understand how she mysteriously gained the power to set things on fire with her mind” (IMDb.com). Chris & Kelsey celebrate the 4th respectfully and neither kick the tires nor light the fires. The Classic Film: Uncle Sam (1996) "Desert Storm vet who was killed in combat rises from the grave on July Fourth, to kill the unpatriotic citizens of his hometown, after some teens burn an American flag over his burial site” (IMDb.com). It's better than we ever could have expected, but that can't hide its most egregious sin: Uncle Sam is mostly a boring movie. The Modern Film: Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) "Two decades after the first Independence Day invasion, Earth is faced with a new extra-Solar threat. But will mankind's new space defenses be enough?” (IMDb.com). The original is by no means a masterpiece, but it made up for it in charisma. Chris & Kelsey make perfect robot versions of each other, but the replacements just run off together. The Original: The Stepford Wives (1975) "Joanna Eberhart has come to the quaint little town of Stepford, Connecticut with her family, but soon discovers there lies a sinister truth in the all too perfect behavior of the female residents” (IMDb.com). Just like Rosemary's Baby, which we love so much, this is yet another Ira Levin story about a woman undone by the selfish machinations of her husband after they move to a new home. Too bad this feminist thriller isn't nearly as effective as that. The Remake: The Stepford Wives (2004) "[Joanna Eberhart] has a hard time adjusting to Stepford's manicured environs and the overly accommodating attitude of the area women. Soon Joanna begins to suspect that something is not right, and she tries to uncover Stepford's secret” (RottenTomatoes.com). Just like Little Shop of Horrors, which we love so much, this is yet another over-the-top, satirical, horror remake from Frank Oz. Too bad this comedy isn't nearly as bold as that. The "Original": Frankenstein (1931) "Dr. Frankenstein dares to tamper with life and death by creating a human monster out of lifeless body parts” (IMDb.com). While not a faithful adaptation of the Mary Shelley classic novel, 1931's Frankenstein is a classic itself with not an inconsiderable amount of quality in its brisk runtime. The "Remake": Frankenstein (2015) "A married couple of scientists create a modern-day monster” (IMDb.com). The Classic Film: The House on Sorority Row (1982) "After a seemingly innocent prank goes horribly wrong, a group of sorority sisters are stalked and murdered one by one in their sorority house while throwing a party to celebrate their graduation” (IMDb.com). The House on Sorority Row is not thrilling, it's not scary, and it isn't even that interesting aside from a few moments in the final act. It isn't bad, but it's certainly not good either. The Classic Film: Razorback (1984) "As a vicious wild boar terrorizes the Australian outback, the husband of one of the victims is joined by a hunter and a farmer in a search for the beast” (IMDb.com). A (perhaps unsurprisingly) beautiful and striking horror film in the vein of Tremors or Jaws, Razorback most disappoints when you aren't getting *enough* of the good stuff. Chris & Kelsey watch the first and most recent initial installments in Kong franchises and there are still two more left! The Classic Film: King Kong (1933) "A film crew goes to a tropical island for an exotic location shoot and discovers a colossal ape who takes a shine to their female blonde star. He is then captured and brought back to New York City for public exhibition” (IMDb.com). There are plenty of things about this movie that aged poorly (including some really cringe-inducing racial insensitivity) but, surprisingly, the effects and pathos aren't among them. King Kong (1933) is the O.G. and this king still rules. The Modern Film: Kong: Skull Island (2017) "After the Vietnam war, a team of scientists explores an uncharted island in the Pacific, venturing into the domain of the mighty Kong, and must fight to escape a primal Eden” (IMDb.com). This newest attempt at rebooting the Kong franchise does even get to leave the island, but we're okay with it. It's a little cheesy, there's no character development, and it's chockablock full of cliché, but it's also gorgeous, cool, and home to the best-looking Kong ever. Chris & Kelsey will end up either dead or insane! Thanks for the recommendation, Alex! The Classic Film: The Crazies (1973) "A biological weapon gone awry is only the start of problems in the little town of Evan's City, Pennsylvania. Bouts of insanity in the populace are leading to murder and rioting until the US Army turns up - and things really start going to hell” (IMDb.com). Feeling like a quintessential low-budget Romero flick, The Crazies is a raw and affecting story of survival. The Modern Film: The Crazies (2010) "As a toxin begins to turn the residents of Ogden Marsh, Iowa, into violent psychopaths, sheriff David Dutton tries to make sense of the situation while he, his wife, and two other unaffected townspeople band together in a fight for survival” (IMDb.com). It may be rare, but sometimes a horror remake is actually good. This is the case with The Crazies' 2010 remake, which does something completely different from the original and does it pretty well. Chris & Kelsey shed all emotion and join the collective in peace! The Second Adaptation: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) "When strange seeds drift to earth from space, mysterious pods begin to grow and invade San Francisco, California, where they replicate the residents into emotionless automatons one body at a time” (IMDb.com). Less reactionary that it's '56 predecessor and the Jack Finney novel on which it's based, the '78 version's slow boil and creeping terror are exactly as effective as the film's modern-day hype would suggest. The Fourth Adaptation: The Invasion (2007) "As a Washington, D.C. psychiatrist unearths the origin of an alien epidemic, she also discovers her son might be the only way it can be stopped” (IMDb.com). Take the 1978 classic, remove the character building and charm, and add some mildly effective personal tension and mindless action scenes and you'll have this fourth attempt at reinventing the wheel. The Invasion seems like it might be worth watching until it just gives up about halfway through and drowns in its own genericism. Chris & Kelsey start a club and merc some aliens. The Classic Film: The Monster Squad (1987) "A young group of monster fanatics attempts to save their hometown from Count Dracula and his monsters” (IMDb.com). The Monster Squad is an 80s kids’ classic, but like many things made for kids in the 80s, its script *maybe* doesn’t hold up as well as we might expect or want. The Modern Film: Attack the Block (2011) “…[An] unlucky young woman and a gang of tough inner-city kids... make an unlikely alliance to try to defend their turf against an invasion of savage alien creatures, turning a South London apartment complex into an intergalactic war-zone” (IMDb.com). Now Dr. John Markway has assembled a team of people who he thinks will prove whether or not the house is haunted” (IMDb.com). Based on the Shirley Jackson novel, “The Haunting of Hill House,” “The Haunting” is a surprisingly under-discussed character study that’s way better than its lack of popular notoriety might suggest. The Remake: The Haunting (1999) "When Eleanor, Theo, and Luke decide to take part in a sleep study at a huge mansion[,] they get more than they bargained for when Dr. Marrow tells them of the house's ghostly past” (IMDb.com). The Classic Film: Night of the Demons (1988) "Ten teenagers party at an abandoned funeral parlor on Halloween night. When an evil force awakens, demonic spirits keep them from leaving and turn their gathering into a living Hell” (IMDb.com). This B-movie was surprisingly fun, despite (or because of?) a complete lack of commitment to lore or reason. The Modern Film: Night of the Demons (2009) "A group of kids go to a Halloween party, only to have to face down a group of demons” (IMDb.com). Same thing; different day. CW: Suicide, Filicide, Distressing Sequences involving Animals (Horses) It’s a Double Feature Week on Pod Sematary! Chris & Kelsey only have seven days left since they watched two films with ticking death clocks! Thanks for the recommendation, Lou! The Original: Ringu (1998) “A reporter and her ex-husband investigate a cursed video tape that is rumored to kill the viewer seven days after watching it” (IMDb.com). With much more subtle storytelling than it's famous gaijin remake (if you discount all of the psychic stuff), this incredible original might have you wondering why they bothered remaking it in the first place. The Remake: The Ring (2002) “A journalist must investigate a mysterious videotape which seems to cause the death of anyone one week to the day after they view it” (IMDb.com). CW: Rape, Domestic Abuse It's Father's Day on Pod Sematary... AND it's a Double Feature! Chris & Kelsey discuss a creepy classic about an overly strict stepfather along with its teen-thriller remake. Listen along with YOUR stepfather! The Classic Film: The Stepfather (1987) "After murdering his entire family, a man remarries a widow with a teenage daughter in another town and prepares to do it all over again" (IMDb.com). This cult classic turned out to be much better than we were expecting. Plus, you get to see Terry O'Quinn's stepfatherly dong. The Modern Film: The Stepfather (2009) "Michael returns home from military school to find his mother happily in love and living with her new boyfriend. As the two men get to know each other, he becomes more and more suspicious of the man who is always there with a helpful hand" (Sony Pictures). We posit that this remake wouldn't have seemed so bad if it wasn't being held up against a far superior version, but we still wouldn't take it over the original. Get more at podsematary.com! It's a Mother's Day Double Feature on Pod Sematary as Chris and Kelsey watch one of the greatest horror films of all time! ...and it's entirely superfluous remake... The Classic Film: Psycho (1960) "A Phoenix secretary embezzles forty thousand dollars from her employer's client, goes on the run, and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother" (IMDb.com). Alfred Hitchcock's horror masterpiece not only helped define his legacy but also the legacy of horror films as quality cinema. The Modern Film: Psycho (1998) "A young female embezzler arrives at the Bates Motel, which has terrible secrets of its own" (IMDb.com). Gus Van Sant's remake may tell you a lot about the unreplicable je ne sais quoi of great filmmaking, but it's a bad look for the director himself. Get more at podsematary.com! Like the other military services, the Air Force has knowingly underfunded its facility maintenance accounts in recent years while its O&M budgets have been squeezed. But officials have come to the conclusion that they'll never reverse the trend of buildings steadily falling into disrepair without both more money and a new scheme to prioritize funds. Richard Hartley, the Air Force’s principal deputy assistant secretary for installations, environment and energy talks with Federal News Network's Scott Maucione about the service's newly-released Infrastructure Investment Strategy. Later, The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency thinks social media platforms might be able to teach the R&D community a thing or two about how to quickly connect information from around the globe. DARPA's John Main talks with Jared Serbu about a new platform called Polyplexus.
CW: Suicide, Bullying, Date Rape, Homophobia It's April Fool's Day on Pod Sematary! Chris & Kelsey discuss an 80s slasher that's greater than the sum of its parts and a remake of an 80s classic that never should have been made! The Classic Film: Slaughter High (1986) "Eight people are invited to their old high school for their ten-year reunion where a fellow former student, disfigured from a prank gone wrong, is out to seek revenge" (IMDb.com). It's a worn-out plot. It's made by people with little knowledge of the country where it was supposed to take place. The accents are so bad that they're funny. It has a twist that makes the movie worse. But if you love 80s slashers, this one is a can't-miss! The Modern Film: April Fool's Day (2008) "A year after an April Fool's Day prank which resulted in the death of one of their set, a group of friends find themselves targeted by someone who is out for revenge" (IMDb.com). This was supposed to be a remake of the 1986 original of the same name (the reason Slaughter High had to change its name), but when they couldn't get the rights, they were forced to reWRITE instead. With our affection for the original and the quality of this stinker, that was probably for the best... Get more at podsematary.com! CW: Severe Domestic Abuse & Homicide, Flashing Lights/Photosensitive Seizures It's a Double Feature! This week on Pod Sematary, Chris & Kelsey watch one of Kelsey's favorite horror movies ever! And... its shiny, soulless remake! The Classic Film: Poltergeist (1982) All IMDB has to say about the plot of this Spielberg/Hooper horror is: "A family's home is haunted by a host of demonic ghosts." Somehow, hidden in this straightforward plot is an honest portrayal of a family in turmoil. The Modern Film: Poltergeist (2015) A family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces must come together to rescue their youngest daughter after the apparitions take her captive. See? This week on Pod Sematary, Chris and Kelsey talk about slow-moving killers that stalk people for having sex! First up is the sequel to the classic rip-off of Halloween, 1981's Friday the 13th Part 2! Jason makes his first appearance as the villain of the series and still does have his mask, but boy does he have mommy issues. Will he be able to resist getting revenge when an entire camp counselor training facility opens up on the lake on Friday the 13th? No. Of course he won't. Then it's on to 2014's It Follows, one of the best horror films of the past decade. A shambling terror stalks a line of sexual partners. What can a couple of teenagers from Detroit do to stop it? Can it be stopped? We often talk about "What now?" endings, but for the beautiful, nostalgic, and melancholic It Follows, that question is the entire point of the movie. Get more at podsematary.com! It's Nihilism Week on Pod Sematary! In this Double Feature, Chris & Kelsey watch what amounts to the same movie twice -- a movie many people would rather not watch once! First up is 1997's Funny Games, from Austrian auteur, Michael Haneke! Then in 2007, Haneke made the picture he always wanted: the same movie again, only in America this time! It's that time of year again: Halloween Week on Pod Sematary! Each year on Halloween, Chris and Kelsey plan to bring you the next installment in this classic franchise! This year, it's a Double Feature of the 1981 follow-up to the original and the second Rob Zombie installment that definitely isn't a remake. First it's the classic Halloween II from 1981! Laurie has been moved to the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital after the events of the first movie and Michael Meyers is still on the lamb. Thrill as hospital staff walk down hallways! Join us for John Carpenter and Debra Hill's final word on Michael Meyers -- he's never coming back after this one, folks! Then it's on to Rob Zombie's 2009 sequel, H2: Halloween II! This movie is chock-a-block full of Zombie cliches, but is it possible that it's actually better than the 1981 version? Find out what got Chris to say, "Like Icarus, he approaches greatness!" CW: Domestic Abuse It's another Double Feature week on Pod Sematary! This time, Chris & Kelsey examine that "true story" classic, The Amityville Horror! First up is the original from 1979, starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder. The movie is way too long and nothing happens, but it's well-made and has some good performances. Can the good make up for just how boring it is? Then it's on to the 2005 remake starring Ryan Reynolds and Chloë Grace Moretz! This one is shorter and delivers on the escalating events, but Reynolds goes from zero to fuckhead in the first 15 minutes and things are a little less believable. Does this remake squander everything it does better than the original? Plus, spoiler-talk about the season finale of Castle Rock! It's a House on Haunted Hill Double Feature this week on Pod Sematary! Chris and Kelsey start off with the 1959 Vincent Price classic, House on Haunted Hill (with EMERGO Technology)! Guests are invited to stay the night in this haunted abode in exchange for $10,000! Are the ghosts (and scary, floating maids) coming for you next? Then it's on to the remake from 40 years later, *1999's* House on Haunted Hill! As loyal listeners will know, this movie disturbed Kelsey something fierce when she was a tween - will it still hold such sway over her nerves in her thirties? Get more at podsematary.com! CW: Child Molestation, Sexual Assault This week on Pod Sematary, Chris & Kelsey are excited to discuss their favorite slasher villain! The Quipping Killer! The Dream Demon! The Springwood Slasher! The Bastard Son of One Hundred Maniacs! The Orangutan Goblin himself: Freddy Krueger! It's a Double Feature of A Nightmare on Elm Street! First up is the 1984 classic! It has the best cop-out of all time because everything happens in dreams. They can do anything! This low-budget flick almost didn't happen but writer/director Wes Craven and producer Bob Shaye wouldn't stop until it was made and the world is all the better for it! Plus, will someone please analyze Kelsey's recurring nightmare? Then it's the 2010 disappointment... Perhaps surprisingly, we'd really like to see a good Nightmare reboot, but boy did we not get one here. Unlike the Thing premakequel, which we decided was simply unnecessary, this remake is a wasted opportunity to reinvigorate the beloved franchise. But we try to find the good in it anyway... is there any? Get more at podsematary.com! It's a Thing Double Feature this week on Pod Sematary and it's not at all confusing! First up, Chris & Kelsey tackle that amazing original-- no, wait... remake? Does The Thing From Another World count as the original? No, screw it. Chris & Kelsey tackle THE ORIGINAL John Carpenter classic from 1982: The Thing! Sure, it's a classic now, but it wasn't always so beloved; have we just been watching with rose-tinted glasses? Then it's on to the sequel-- no, wait... remake? No, wait... prequel. Then it's on to the premakequel from 2011 starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead! It's perfectly alright but ultimately forgettable and unnecessary. Are we just way off base here? But that's not all! At the end of the episode, stick around for some Castle Rock talk! We discuss our thoughts on the first three episodes of the new Stephen King series and there's no restraint on spoilers. We each throw out a prediction on events to come, so be sure to share yours, too! Plus! --Manly Men --The bottom of the Uncanny Valley --Tormund Giantsbane --#diabeetus --Discussion on how trailers undermine a film literally 100% of the time --A primer on how Netflix works and why all of their original horror films are bad Get more at podsematary.com! CW: Sexual Assault, Rape It's another Double Feature! This week, Chris & Kelsey get groovy with the indie-horror classic from 1981, The Evil Dead! Does Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell's baby still hold up? Are we all really just remembering the other two films in the series? Or did it spawn a cult franchise for a very good reason? Hail to the king, baby! Then we skip the sequels and go right to the remake (because that's how Double Features usually work!) with 2013's Evil Dead! It was directed by Fede Alvarez and stars Jane Levy, both of whom wowed us in Don't Breathe just a couple weeks ago... was that a fluke or are these two a great combination? Is it all really just a metaphor for addiction? Does it do the original justice? Just how bitchin' are fire and blood rain? Plus, we nearly melt. Get more at www.podsematary.com! Prom season continues on Pod Sematary: Chris is sick! Kelsey's getting sick! And on the most important day of our lives!? First up in the Prom Night Double Feature is the "way underrated" 1980 classic starring Scream Queen Jamie Lee Curtis. It's the movie that asks, "What if Carrie but Halloween? Plus Saturday Night Fever?" Remember kids: Be a Kim - Not a Wendy. Then Chris gets very angry about prescription medication and then just angry in general when discussing the "fucking paint-by-numbers bullshit" 2008 sequel. The less said about this one the better, we think. Get more at podsematary.com! It's prom season on Pod Sematary, folks, and Chris & Kelsey are chatting about Stephen King's Carrie! It's a double feature! First up, of course, is the Brian DePalma classic from 1976! What happens when an isolated and terrorized young woman discovers she has power over her life after all? What happens when she's pushed too hard? Then, as spring turns to summer, so must we also discuss the "woefully unnecessary" 2013 remake, which has us asking, "Why aren't we watching Cabin in the Woods instead?" Get more at podsematary.com! Matthew looks at music for some of the many films based on the Alice books and also films that are more indirectly inspired by them, including Dmitri Tiomkin's music for the 1933 "Alice in Wonderland"; John Barry's 1974 version; Richard Hartley's score for the 1999 TV version; and music by Danny Elfman for Tim Burton. The programme also features music by Howard Shore for "The Last Mimzy"; Christian and Joe Henson for "Malice in Wonderland"; Christophe Beck for "Phoebe in Wonderland" and Don Davis's music for "The Matrix". The Classic Score of the Week is Sammy Fain's and Oliver Wallace's music for Walt Disney's 1951 animated "Alice in Wonderland".
