Jeni Britton is the founder of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams and the new fiber bar company Floura. Jeni grew up loving food and entrepreneurship—so much so that she left college to pursue her dream of making ice cream. After years of researching and experimenting with new and innovative flavor combinations, she founded Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams in 2002. Over the next 17 years, she built Jeni's into an ice cream sensation. Today, the brand generates over $125 million in annual revenue and is known for its unique, delicious flavor combinations. By 2019, however, she was burnt out. She stepped away from the company, allowing herself time to rest and reflect. During this period, she embarked on a health journey, which led her to the world of fiber. Britton soon learned that a majority of Americans do not get enough fiber, so she set about experimenting with innovative ingredients and nutrients. The result is Floura—a new line of fiber bars featuring 12 different fiber sources from whole plants that come in flavors like Blueberry Matcha and Brambleberry Lavender. Floura launched in January through direct-to-consumer sales and Pop Up Grocer in January, selling out its initial run in just two days.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Prosecutors allege Cox, 69, struck Pugh in a marked crosswalk after leaving a holiday party. Cox refused sobriety tests, admitting to drinking “three beers” and taking medication. Police noted signs of impairment but no slurred speech. Evidence presented included bar receipts showing multiple beers ordered by Cox's group earlier and testimony about the catastrophic brain injuries that led to Pugh's death. Defense attorneys questioned the receipt's accuracy, highlighted poor visibility at the crash scene, and argued Cox's demeanor did not indicate intoxication. The trial, criticized for its slow pace, continues amid debates over evidence admissibility and witness questioning. Visitors learned about the Confederate Army's high-ground advantage and viewed artifacts from the battle. History buffs and families, including those visiting from Estonia, praised the educational experience, emphasizing the importance of understanding history to shape the future. STORY 5:  First Stretch of 100-Mile Trail Project Opens in South Cobb The first segment of the Chattahoochee RiverLands trail, a 0.7-mile stretch at Discovery Park at Riverline in Mableton, was unveiled and hailed as the start of a 100-mile greenway connecting 19 cities along the river. This ambitious project, born from a $1 million investment by Cobb County, aims to improve river access and foster economic development, community connection, and environmental preservation. Over $43 million has been secured for the RiverLands in Cobb, including $25 million in public funding. Future plans include extending the trail to Mableton Parkway by 2026 as part of a decades-long effort to complete the entire network, transforming the region with expanded green space and recreational opportunities.   We'll be back in a moment    Break: Ingles Markets 9 STORY 6:  47-Home Midway Road Subdivision Proposed The Cobb Planning Commission will review Poston Properties' proposal for a 47-home subdivision on Midway Road near Lost Mountain Park. The plan features traditional and craftsman-style homes with at least 2,200 square feet and two-car garages. The developer seeks open space community zoning, which would preserve 50% of the 48.67-acre property as permanently protected open space, including walking trails and park areas. A mandatory HOA and a 100-foot buffer from the neighboring Broadlands subdivision are also proposed. Previously delayed in October, the plan aims to balance development with conservation while enhancing the community. STORY 7:  UPDATE: Man Killed in Smyrna Hit-and-Run Cobb County Police are investigating a hit-and-run incident in Smyrna that killed 30-year-old Jose Ortega-Dominguez early Saturday morning. So the most loving thing a health coach can do is to get women re-embodied and re-in touch with our appetites, our desires, our boundaries, our suppressed and repressed emotions.”   BIO:  Elise Loehnen is a New York Times bestselling author and the host of the podcast, Pulling the Thread, where she interviews cultural luminaries about the big questions of today, including people like Jo Harjo, Loretta Ross, Pico Iyer, Dr. Gabor Maté, and Terry Real. Welcome to the Revelation Project podcast, where we disrupt the trance of unworthiness to guide women to remember and reveal the truth of who we are. In this episode, my guest, Elise Loehnen, joins me to discuss her New York Times Best-Selling Book, On Our Best Behavior: The Seven Deadly Sins And The Price Women Pay To Be Good. A successful writer, editor, and host of the wildly popular Pulling the Thread podcast. Elise begins by sharing what led her to write this book- and her experience with chronic hyperventilation disorder, an anxiety disorder, and her challenge to get to the root of it. Elise discusses the symptoms, treatments and dissonance between her interior struggle and her outward demeanor of success. She reflects on the pressures she began to identify, which led her to the revelation that the underpinnings of her stress and striving were rooted in her unconscious allegiance to “good girl” programming. By revealing the systems of patriarchy and its complex impact on women, Elise delves into early Christianity and the subjugation of women throughout history. We touch on the origins and transformation of the Seven Deadly Sins, the elevation and vilification of Mary Magdalene, and how this impacts us even today. Throughout the episode, we weave in behaviors that hold us back as women such as jealousy and envy, and the role they play in women's lives. We also discuss the societal expectations placed on women and the need to free ourselves from external validation The conversation ends with a powerful message about embracing the feminine and reclaiming feminine values to create change in ourselves and in society. Topics Discussed: * The Origin of the Seven Deadly Sins * The “Boogyman of patriarchy” * Elise's experience with chronic hyperventilation disorder and getting to the root of it. * Exploring the pressures to be enough and the internal voices of self-doubt * Understanding the concept of patriarchy and its roots in early Christianity * The elevation and vilification of Mary Magdalene * Embracing the feminine and reclaiming feminine values * The importance of embracing curiosity and personal exploration ** Mentioned:** * Pulling the Thread podcast * Seven Deadly Sins * Mary Magdalene * Pope Gregory I * Lynn Twist Bio Elise Loehnen Fissmer is a writer, editor, and the host of the podcast, Pulling the Thread, living in Los Angeles with her husband, Rob, and their sons, Max and Sam. Petco Park is known for having some of the best food in baseball. They were even one of the first stadiums in the nation to bring in iconic and emerging local restaurants, craft beers, wine, and cocktails for a more upscale experience (we still love a good, classic hot dog). On this episode of Happy Half Hour, co-hosts Troy and David get the inside scoop on the ballpark's food and drink scene at Alesmith's 394 bar inside of Petco. With a stadium that holds nearly 50,000 visitors, vice president of hospitality Josh Momberg says that the most challenging obstacle is serving fresh food. It's no joke feeding nearly 3M people each year, especially when not every visitor is there to actually watch the game. How do you keep your aunt entertained who only began watching the Padres once they started winning last year? A beautiful stadium, perfect weather, craft cocktails, and bacon-wrapped jalapenos that will immediately turn anyone into a sports fan. Ask any attendee and you'll likely start an argument over which restaurant inside the ballpark is the best. Hodad's, a local favorite, often tops the list, but then again, you can't forget about that juicy, tender Cardiff crack tri-tip nachos at Seaside Market. They're wrong, though, it's anything at Grand Ole BBQ y Asado. “When we went into this mission of creating this local program, we wanted to get the best of everything so that if you only came to one place in San Diego, had three hours to watch a ballgame, you got to sample something that's uniquely a slice of San Diego here,” Josh shares. So, what's new this year? Plenty. Some standouts include Mexican street corn made with chiles, fuego sauce, lime crema, and a Tahine pop rock; and fresh Blue Water Seafood's fish tacos. Although technically introduced in 2022, Troy and David gush over Hot Hens with Petco's executive chef Phil Dumlao. The fried chicken sandwich comes in a mini food truck carrier decked out in City Connect colors—because why not? In food news, David forgets where he lives as he brings up the upcoming Falafel Heights opening in North Park from owner Lialie Ibrahim. A Palestinian and first-generation American, Ibrahim spent more than a decade perfecting her falafel recipe and now hopes to bring those authentic Middle Eastern flavors to San Diego. Barn Brewing closes in North Park, Young Cluck opens in Normal Heights, Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream comes to North Park with an everything bagel scoop that David says “kind of tastes like garlic ice cream.” In “Two People, Fifty Bucks,” Josh shouts out The Belly of the Beast ramen at Underbelly Ramen, Phil tips his hat to the burger at The Friendly, Troy picks the vegetarian tasting menu dish at Ambrogio by Acquerello, and David goes for the motherclucker at Hillcrest's Sunnyboy Biscuit Company.

This week I'm speaking with Jeni Britton. Having grown up with a healthy dose of Roald Dahl and encouragement, Jeni learned to connect with her feelings early on, and has dedicated more than half her life to the sensorial art of making ice cream, as the founder and Chief Creative Officer of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams.Jeni made the choice to become an ice cream maker at a young age, but it was during her time at The Ohio State University where the adventure truly began. Shortly after walking out of an art class her sophomore year, Jeni set up shop at Columbus's North Market, where she would source the ingredients needed to make her signature creations, gaining an education in both flavor and business. While financially unsuccessful, her first foray into entreprenurialship provided her with experience and perspective, which set the foundation for the success which would follow, including a James Beard Award, a spot on The New York Times Best Sellers list, and more than 60 scoop shops across the United States. In the same year she was named one of Fast Company's Most Creative People In Business, the bottom dropped out, leaving Jeni faced with a crisis she thought would be the end of her company. Inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien and supported by the community she had nurtured since her days at the North Market, Jeni would weather the storm, and emerge having experienced a sense of love she says changed her view on ‘everything in the world'.During the course of our conversation, we discuss the fellowship model, B Corps, and how she encourages eating ice cream in winter. It is with a deep sense of hometown pride that I present Jeni Britton on The Days Between..

Jeni Britton is an American ice cream maker and entrepreneur. A pioneer of the artisan ice cream movement, she introduced a modern, ingredient-driven style of ice cream making. In 1996 Jeni opened her first ice cream shop, Scream and later founded Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams in 2002. Her first cookbook, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home, is a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller and won a coveted James Beard Award in 2012. Her second cookbook, Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream Desserts (2014), took dessert making to the next level with an array of ice cream centric desserts. In addition, Jeni is a 2017 Henry Crown Fellow and has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the most creative people in business today.  For the first decade in business, Jeni intentionally decided to move the attention away from her as the founder and put it on the ice cream and the customers. She wanted to become your trusted ice cream maker above all else. Jeni dedicated her life to carefully listening to customers to inform her next move while staying true to her core values–and it paid off.  As Founder and Chief Creative Officer, Jeni's focus has shifted from running the day-to-day business to keeping her eyes on the future of Jeni's. While she remains the beating heart of the company and is in charge of all creative output, she finds herself in her 40's enjoying a personal and professional renaissance. Whether she's communicating the values of Jeni's out to the world, supporting other small businesses, running deep into the forest to learn all that nature has to teach, delving into poetry, baking or sharing her mornings with us on Instagram, you can be sure she'll be wearing lots of color.  In this episode, Nada sits down with Jeni Britton to discuss her hard earned wisdom from 26 years of working with ice cream. She explains that she intentionally uses the term “company” over “business” because it means you are not alone. She has created a strong community and ethos around fellowship at Jeni's and her passion is evident in this interview. Check out Jeni's website.
