What if the role you've played your whole life—the one that made people love you, trust you, applaud you—was actually the thing keeping you from yourself? In this moving Language of Love Conversations, I sit down with Mark Walberg—not the Ted movie star, but the television host known for his charm, wit, and steady presence on hit shows like Antiques Roadshow and Temptation Island. After watching this season of Temptation Island for the first time, I was stunned. Despite having no clinical training, Mark intuitively held space for confessions, breakdowns, and deep self reckonings,— guiding the cast through their fears, blind spots, and emotional blocks with incredible insight and timing. He was doing a better job than lots of therapists I know! I had to understand where that wisdom came from. Mark didn't disappoint. In this Language of Love Conversation, he pulls back the curtain and shares his own journey, from the pressures of fame to the private unraveling that brought him to his knees, and eventually to a place of radical honesty. We talk about the fear of feeling, the cost of emotional suppression, and how it's never too late to come home to yourself. Here's a sneak peek… The surprising lessons Mark learned about love while hosting Temptation Island How a successful career became a hiding place—and what it took to step out of it Why approval from the crowd can't replace real connection The childhood wounds he carried into adulthood—and how he finally began to face them What happens when you stop numbing and start feeling The role his wife played in calling him back to himself How fatherhood cracked him open in the best (and hardest) ways Why vulnerability might just be the most courageous thing a man can offer Remember to follow Mark Walberg's continuing story on his website and socials. Series: 1 John: That You May KnowPreacher: Pastor Anson McMahonThis sermon from 1 John 2:15-17 provides a crucial examination of the Christian's relationship with the world. Anson powerfully unpacks the seemingly paradoxical command to "not love the world," carefully distinguishing this from a hatred of people or creation. Instead, he illuminates "the world" as a Satan-influenced system of values and desires that stand in opposition to God. Through a detailed exploration of the "devil's trinity" – the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life – the sermon reveals the core temptations that lure believers away from a life devoted to God. Ultimately, it contrasts the fleeting nature of worldly satisfaction with the eternal significance of loving and obeying God, urging listeners to choose a path of lasting value.Key Points:The Command Against Worldly Love: An explanation of 1 John 2:15 and the call for believers to resist loving the world and its allurements.Defining "The World" Biblically: Clarification that "the world" in this context refers to a system of values opposed to God, not people or the created order. The "Devil's Trinity" of Worldly Temptations:The Desires of the Flesh (Lust of the Flesh): The pursuit of immediate, sensory gratification that disregards God's will. The Desires of the Eyes (Lust of the Eyes): The temptation towards materialism and coveting based on visual appeal and societal trends. The Pride of Life: The arrogant self-sufficiency that rejects dependence on God and seeks validation through worldly success. The Transitory Nature of Worldly Pleasures: An emphasis on the temporary and ultimately unsatisfying nature of sin and worldly pursuits compared to eternal joy in God.Choosing a Love with Eternal Significance: A strong encouragement to prioritize loving and obeying God, investing in what has lasting value beyond the fleeting nature of the world.Reflect & Discuss:In what specific ways do you see the "desires of the flesh," "desires of the eyes," and "pride of life" manifesting in our culture today? How can believers practically distinguish between enjoying God's creation and loving the world's system? What are some areas in your own life where you might be tempted to love the world or the things in the world more than God?How does understanding the temporary nature of the world impact your priorities and decisions as a Christian?Discuss practical steps you can take to cultivate a greater love for God and resist the allure of the world.Scripture:1 John 2:15-17Genesis 3:62 Samuel 11:2-4Joshua 7:20-21Proverbs 27:201 Timothy 6:9-10John 12:42-432 Timothy 3:2-4John 3:16Psalm 24:1Genesis 2:9James 1:14-15Proverbs 14:12Hebrews 11:25Matthew 16:26John 15:18-191 John 5:19Colossians 3:2Philippians 3:20Keywords:Love, World, Worldliness, Desires of the Flesh, Lust of the Flesh, Desires of the Eyes, Lust of the Eyes, Pride of Life, Temptation, Sin, Eternal Life, Temporary, Values, Culture, God, Obedience, Discipleship.

Jesus in the wilderness. Forty days. No bread. All temptation. What does this iconic story really mean—and what does it have to do with marshmallows, baptism, and political power? In this episode of Between Sundays, Tyler, Maron, and Barry dig into Matthew 4 and unpack the wilderness temptation of Jesus. We explore why Matthew draws heavy parallels between Jesus and the story of Israel, how spiritual warfare often follows spiritual affirmation, and why resisting temptation is less about gritting your teeth and more about trusting God, knowing Scripture, and living a life of worship. We also ask some tough questions: Did God lead Jesus into temptation? Was Satan actually questioning Jesus' identity? How do we know when Scripture is being twisted today? What does it really mean to worship in a world of distraction? And—are we supposed to imitate Jesus in temptation… or just depend on him? Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share if this episode challenged you to trust deeper, walk stronger, and follow Jesus when it's hard.

Temptation is as constant and real as gravity—a daily battle that every believer faces. Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar remind Christians that they are never alone in this struggle, and the enemy wants them to believe otherwise. Isolation is one of Satan's strongest tools, but God calls believers to live in the light and walk in community. When one believer confesses a struggle, another can offer encouragement, reminding them that being tempted is part of the Christian journey. A fear of the Lord becomes a shield against compromise. Every time Jesus was tempted, He responded with Scripture. In the same way, when believers store the Word in their hearts, the Holy Spirit brings it to mind at crucial moments, arming them with truth that weakens the power of temptation.Prayer is to be ongoing. Even Elijah, who shared the same human nature, prayed earnestly and witnessed the power of God. The model of praying to be delivered from temptation and evil is not optional—it is essential. Spiritual discipline plays a critical role in a believer's strength. Fasting, once a common practice in the early church, has been overlooked by many today. In avoiding legalism, many have also rejected discipline, but Scripture teaches that while salvation is a gift of grace, Christians are created for good works. Discipline, when motivated by love for God, helps conform believers to the image of Christ.Resisting temptation is not about earning favor, but about growing in Christlikeness. God has predestined His people to be conformed to His Son, and resistance is a part of that transformation. Humility is key—recognizing that apart from God, nothing is deserved but judgment. Gratitude flows from this awareness. The best way to flee temptation is to have somewhere better to run. Redirecting desires toward Christ changes the battle entirely. Believers are the reward of Jesus's obedience, and understanding His love is stronger than any willpower.Standing strong also means running with the right people. Christians grow when they walk with others who are running the race well. Community, scripture, prayer, evangelism, and fellowship all strengthen the soul. Ephesians teaches that the real battle is spiritual and that the armor of God is essential. Believers must be aware of their weaknesses, seek counsel, pursue repentance, and embrace accountability. Like Joseph before Potiphar's wife, believers must refuse, reason, resist—and then run. Those who believe they cannot fall are often the first to do so. Temptation is real, but so is the strength found in Christ.Send us a textThanks for listening! We've been exploring how to deal with temptation, how it's normal for everyone, and how it comes in a variety of forms. Temptation can be overcome. Jesus experienced the same temptations and He resisted them to prove that it could be done. Many Christians have confronted the same pressures and overcome. And we can do it too. Today we discuss four practical suggestions to help you overcome temptation.
We know from James 1 that everyone is tempted, and the same tricks the devil uses now he used from the fall of humanity. So what tricks are those? Let's check it out!The target of his ministry is to clearly communicate the gospel of grace to unbelievers and solid Bible teaching to believers in order to nurture them to grow and walk in fellowship with Jesus Christ. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every single day. A shout-out today goes to David and Patti Fredrickson from Lake City, MN. Thank you both for your kind email, for be grateful listeners, and for becoming month partners. We cannot do this without you. Be like the Fredrickson's and listen daily with your spouse! Today we premiere the next lesson in my newest study for men, titled Blacksmith's Discipline. If you'd like to join me for this click the link to receive notifications and purchase the study book that accompanies the study today. We have four more weeks to go. Today, we're reading Mark 1:12-13: The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.— Mark 1:12-13 The moment Jesus is baptized—He's launched into battle. No time to bask in the glory of that voice from heaven. No pause. No pat on the back. The same Spirit that descended like a dove drives him into the wilderness. And what waits for him there? Satan. Temptation. Wild animals. Isolation. It's easy to think that following God should lead to peace, comfort, clarity. But here—obedience leads Jesus into hardship. Before Jesus ever preached a word, He had to fight a war. This wilderness moment matters. Jesus steps into the mess of temptation not because He had to—but because we do. He willingly walks into the fire so He could stand in it with us. He faces Satan head-on, not as a show of power, but as a statement of solidarity. The Son of God chose to suffer first. And Mark tells it fast—just two verses. No dialogue. No breakdown of the temptation. Just this: He was tempted, He endured, He was not alone. God doesn't abandon us in the wilderness—He strengthens us there. You may feel like you're walking through your own desert right now. Maybe you're facing temptation, loneliness, or attack. But take this to heart: Jesus has walked that road, and He's walking it with you now. #WildernessFaith, #JesusFightsFirst, #Mark11213 ASK THIS: What “wilderness” are you currently facing? How do you typically respond to spiritual battles? What does this passage teach you about God's presence in trials? In what ways can you rely more on the Spirit during temptation? DO THIS: Walk into your wilderness today with confidence—Jesus has already been there, and He's walking with you now. PRAY THIS: Jesus, thank you for walking into the wilderness before me. Help me to see your presence in my hardest moments and trust your strength in my weakness. Amen. PLAY THIS: Battle Belongs.

The guys discuss how temptation is a constant and unavoidable part of the Christian life, but believers are not alone in the fight. Through Scripture, prayer, spiritual discipline, and community, Christians are equipped to resist temptation and grow in Christlikeness. The fear of the Lord acts as a shield, and memorizing Scripture allows the Holy Spirit to bring truth to mind in moments of weakness. Practices like fasting and consistent prayer strengthen believers spiritually, while humility and gratitude keep their hearts aligned with God. Standing strong also means walking with others who are pursuing Christ, staying aware of personal weaknesses, and embracing accountability. Like Joseph fleeing from Potiphar's wife, Christians must be ready to refuse, reason, resist, and run—trusting that God's strength is greater than any temptation they face.Send us a textThanks for listening! This week, we're exploring how to deal best with temptation. In 1 Corinthians, Paul confessed the constant struggle he had with the temptations of the world throughout his entire life. Even Jesus struggled with temptation all of His life. If we're going to overcome temptation, we've got to see the awful consequences of sin. There are warnings in scripture about being careless in the Christian life.
In a follow-up to Episode 239's discussion of Sin, Suffering, and Death, Rafe pursues the question of the source of your suffering. Is this certainty of life due to punishment? Temptation? Testing? or simple Consequence? Rafe looks at each one of these and comes to the conclusion that it's not divine punishment; it's probably a combination of simple consequence of living here in this broken world magnified by Satan's temptation but then tempered by God not giving you more than you can handle. Suffering will come; Death will come; just don't let them turn you to Sin.*****As always, you can reach the Buf at bufnagle@bufnagle.com*****As you know, this is an independent podcast so your hosts also carry all the expenses of running this podcast. As such, some of you have asked how you can help out. Ephesians One was a brilliant overview of God's plan, salvation and our eventual destiny with Jesus Christ. Chapter Two is a reminder of the miry clay we have all been rescued from. While dark, it is vital for the believer to never lose sight of our own desperate rescue or church becomes an exclusive club instead of a hospital to meet the Great Physician.
Let's be a church that trusts God's plans and is content with who He has called each of us to be.
Let's be a church that trusts God's plans and is content with who He has called each of us to be.
Sin isn't just breaking rules—it's rejecting God's design for life. This week, we explore how deception, desire, and destructive opportunity unravel the beauty of God's plan and why we need something greater to restore us.
This morning, I want you to see how Satan tempted Jesus. And he tempted him in all ways that he could. He tempted Jesus with "the lust of the flesh", "the lust of the eyes", and the "pride of life". And you can rest assured that if he tempted Jesus Christ in all these ways, he will tempt you in all these ways as well.
We all face temptation — the moments where we're tired, weak, and most vulnerable. But in those very moments, God is faithful. He doesn't just leave us to fight alone — He makes a way out. We'll look at how Jesus handled temptation, what the Israelites failed to learn, and how you can stand firm even in your weakest moments. Crazy Chris Watts Blames Blames Wife, Mistress, and “Temptation” For Taking Out His Family Convicted family murderer Chris Watts continues to deflect blame for the brutal 2018 killings of his pregnant wife and two young daughters, according to disturbing jailhouse letters obtained by Knewz.com. In a series of handwritten messages from behind bars, Watts shifts responsibility to his late wife Shanann, his former mistress, and even spiritual temptation—while continuing to describe himself as a "good man." Watts, now 39, is serving multiple life sentences without parole at Dodge Correctional Institution in Wisconsin for the murders of Shanann Watts, 34, and their daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3. The horrific killings gripped the nation in August 2018, when Watts initially pretended to be a grieving husband and father during media appearances, only to later confess to the crimes after being confronted with damning evidence. But in letters written to acquaintances, friends, and even addressed to God, Watts portrays himself as a victim of circumstances. He calls Shanann a “control freak” who, he claims, ignored his emotional needs and drove him into an affair with co-worker Nichol Kessinger. Kessinger is also vilified in the letters, which Watts uses to describe her as a “harlot” and “evil woman” who lured him with “flattering speech” and “lust in her eyes and flesh.” Despite these deflections, Watts offers little genuine remorse, even referring to himself as “still a good man” led astray. A source close to the case called the letters "a masterclass in manipulation, self-pity, and blame-shifting." “Instead of owning the unimaginable crimes he committed, Watts casts himself as a weak, misguided soul corrupted by others,” the source said. “Chris Watts is not a victim. He is a calculating killer who refuses to take full responsibility—even now.” Watts' deception began almost immediately after the murders. On the day his family was reported missing, he gave emotional interviews on local news, pleading for their safe return. Behind the scenes, however, law enforcement uncovered surveillance footage of him loading his family's bodies into his truck. He later confessed that, in the early hours of August 13, 2018, he strangled Shanann in their home while she was still pregnant with their son. He then drove their daughters to the oil site where he worked, smothering each one before hiding their bodies in oil tanks and burying Shanann nearby. Watts avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty to five counts of first-degree murder on November 6, 2018. He was sentenced to five life sentences, three to be served consecutively and two concurrently, along with additional time for unlawful termination of a pregnancy and tampering with a deceased body. Despite his continued attempts to revise history and cast blame on others, legal experts and observers say Watts' actions—and his words—continue to reveal a deeply narcissistic and remorseless individual. “He wants the world to see him as someone who was cornered,” the insider added. “But the truth is far more horrifying—he planned this, carried it out, and now, even years later, he's trying to rewrite the story.” Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Fr. Mike reflects on King Saul's despair in the face of trial, and how he seeks other means of comfort when he feels like God has abandoned him. God never abandons us, especially in the midst of danger. Fr. Mike invites us to place our trust in God's promise, instead of resorting to sinful acts.
