About Oliver Widler & Denis Widler: Denis Widler is the co-founder and Head of Business Relations at Flappie, a startup building an AI-powered cat door with integrated prey detection. He holds a Master's degree in Business Innovation from HSG. Oliver Widler is Denis' twin brother and the co-founder and Head of Technology at Flappie. He holds a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from ETH.  Denis and Oliver started Flappie together in 2022 motivated by their personal experience growing up with furry friends who would bring “gifts” home. This got them thinking about a product that could prevent such unpleasant surprises, and with his engineering background Oliver devised a cat door which immediately recognizes when your cat tries to bring presents (e.g., mice, birds) into the house. Once recognized, the cat door locks automatically, and the cat (including the prey) stays outside until it returns with no prey. The Widler brothers think the time is ripe for their product, considering that ⅓ of households globally have cats and that 81% of Gen Z live with cats. It seems they've been proven right: their product has been featured in over 200 media outlets since inception.  They're currently raising CHF 1M in funds, 500K of which they already have in soft commitments, and 50K of which are being raised through the Swisspreneur Syndicate. While Craig is optimistic about the rapid growth of the agriculture, energy, manufacturing, and consumer goods and services sectors, he noted that the aerospace and tech sectors are a different story. They discussed U.S.-China positioning in the tech sector and the recent establishment of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, the first select committee directed against a foreign political party. Craig pointed out that both countries should seek to de-risk rather than de-couple, in order to harness the benefits of interconnection between the world's two largest economies while managing the risk of interdependence. They concluded with the topic of student exchange, an area they both deemed critical to foster conversation between the U.S. and China. As the holiday season approaches, small businesses far and wide are looking for unique ways to amplify their products and services. The additional reach of an advertisement or paid social media post could provide a noticeable difference in success at the register. What if your business was able to partner with a group of regionally recognizable figures who have influence in the social media world? What if you were able to build a long-term relationship that saw mutual benefit in attaching your business, product, or brand, to someone who can amplify your message to a larger audience?Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) is a term that has swept across the sports landscape over the past couple of years. Through litigation and NCAA rule changes, student-athletes are now able to profit off their own unique brand, thus opening the opportunity for partnerships that could never exist in prior years. This week's Mind Your Business podcast features Doug Middleton, former App State Football legend turned NIL guru. He explains the new rules regarding relationships between local businesses and student-athletes and how App State Athletics has partnered with INFLCR to provide a platform to organize this new activity. He also discusses the variety of ways that businesses can link their brand with Mountaineers that have influence far beyond the High Country. Mind your Business is produced weekly by the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce. The radio show can be heard each Thursday morning at 10:05AM on WATA (1450AM/96.5FM) in the High Country. Plus, the typical brochure copy doesn't work for most brands;  people expect more. Storytelling engages your audience at an emotional level to capture their attention.Pete Docter puts it perfectly: “What you're trying to do, when you tell a story, is to write about an event in your life that made you feel some particular way. And what you're trying to do, when you tell a story, is to get the audience to have that same feeling.”This can work in business. Think about the common question, “tell me  about your business.” Being able to tell a compelling, engaging, and consistent story initiates that relationship and makes you & your brand memorable.--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nerdbrand/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nerdbrand/support
