In this last episode of EU watchdog radio of 2024 we dive into the topic of the global power of the Big Meat lobby and how two dozen ultra rich companies dominate the political and policy agenda including at the FAO. We talk to professor Paul Behrens, climate expert at Oxford university and Caitlin Smith, senior campaigner at Changing Markets Foundation, about the report The new merchants of doubt. And don't worry, we do not want to turn you into a vegan or vegetarian (would be healthy for you); but the bottom line is: we should eat way less meat in the rich parts of the world and give a little ecological space to the world's poorer regions.

Let's be real, dating can be tough and the online dating space today can cause many people to decide to throw the towel in altogether and to focus on other areas of life. But what does that mean for those who still want to meet somebody? Keep living your life and hope for the best? On this week's podcast episode I have invited back Caitlin Smith, better known as The Compatibility Coach, for an honest girl talk all about dating in your thirties. In this episode we dive into topics surrounding the realities of dating, and why so many of us experience dating burnout and feel that we are ‘interviewing' for jobs roles. Caitlin shares her experience of never experiencing a relationship until her late twenties, and I share my story of being on and off single and what it was like re-entering the dating world again at age 33. We also discuss why the key to getting your sparkle back may be to take a step back and delete the apps, how our mindsets are key in transforming our dating lives, the part luck plays in meeting someone, how to not get obsessed with dating, the key differences between men and women in the dating world and how to be the one that is picking instead of waiting to be picked. An interview, concert, and lush connecting. Aotearoa New Zealand has a magical song bird named Caitlin Smith...poet, storyteller, spiritual being, community weaver, vocal coach, and rocket of energy and hope. It was a blast to sit on her rug, sipping macca cacao mushroom tea, as she jumped up sporadically to play her upright piano...all while being filmed for a doco. I learned so much about the senses, the richness of life and living a life full of purpose. We even covered a deep shared passion of astrology. I love this interview. It's so important to talk about visibility...about blindness. Her latest album has braille on it, and part of what she's trying to do is cultivate community to break down isolation. We can all do our bit. I went away feeling like I'd swam in the ocean and came out renewed. Defamation litigation tends to be unavailing. Many offending statements don't meet the definition of defamation — they may be opinions, or insults, or false statements against a public figure made without actual malice, or even true factual statements you just didn't like hearing. This week's episode is mostly a deep dive into defamation lawsuits brought against Fox News (and related parties) by two voting technology companies, Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic. This litigation looks different from most defamation litigation. Smartmatic and Dominion are large companies whose business has likely been impaired by the lies told about them. Those lies were broadcast extremely widely — no need to worry about the Streisand effect. One of the entities that shared many of the lies, Fox News, is a very deep pocket. And Fox has good reason to worry it could end up facing some very large judgments. Ken and Josh discuss the favorable rulings and power moves in both of these cases, plus an update on Rust shooting. (Appellate public defender Caitlin Smith, who wrote into us several weeks ago about why the enhancement was invalid, has been proved right.) And we talked about how Sam Bankman-Fried got into a position where the judge presiding over his case seems to like him less than the prosecutors do.Visit serioustrouble.show to support the show, sign up for our newsletter and find a transcript of this episode. Why is climate finance such an important issue, and how does it affect the world's most climate-vulnerable countries? In this podcast we look at the Pacific island nation of Fiji, which is on the frontline of climate change-related impacts such as coral bleaching, sea level rises, and extreme weather events. Fiji's attempts to meet this challenge were dealt a severe blow by Cyclone Winston and then - especially - the Covid 19 pandemic, which hit the tourism-dependent economy very hard. In this WRI podcast we hear about the challenges, the solutions that are being found, and the central role that climate finance plays in this. The interviewees are Caitlin Smith and Prashant Chandra of WRI, and Prelish Lal of Fiji's Ministry of Economy. The podcast is presented by Nicholas Walton, who also produced it with significant help from Hayden Higgins from WRI's Finance team.
EPISODE 21 Have you ever considered what it means to actually be a "good" teacher? Have you felt guilty when you set boundaries or put yourself first? If you are a teacher in America currently, let me guess...you promptly stated a "yes." Self-care and prioritizing yourself, changing this "good" teacher narrative isn't easy...but as today's guest will share with you - it's definitely worth it! As a veteran educator of 11 years, I know how hard it is to stop letting what you think "good" teachers do stand in your way of sustaining your career doing what you love. We have these limiting beliefs that just seem impossible to get through. Some of us think of self-care as bath bombs or mani/pedis but it's so much deeper than that. Today's guest has been disrupting these ideas with her business and I can't wait for you to meet her. Caitlin Peay Smith is a former teacher with over ten years of experience in North Carolina. Caitlin is back sharing another delicious cocktail. This time, she’s drawing inspiration from the traditional Hot Buttered Rum, using coffee. If you missed her first episode where she breaks down one of the most delicious cocktails we had all year, check out Season 5 / Episode 02. Enjoy this episode as we go Beyond the Drink… with Caitlin Smith. (cocktail recipe below) Warm and Fuzzy Makes 1 Drink This drink is inspired by my New England roots and the classic Hot Buttered Rum cocktail. I’ve switched it up to match my love for coffee. 1.5 oz Vodka, preferably vanilla flavored .5 oz Smoked Rum 1 Tablespoon Compound Butter (recipe below) .5 oz Pecan Syrup (recipe below) Hot coffee Combine the vodka, smoked rum, butter and syrup in a coffee cup and pour hot coffee over the top. Use a handheld milk frother to incorporate all of the ingredients into the coffee. Sprinkle crushed dark chocolate espresso beans over the top. Habanero-Piloncillo Compound Butter: Add one cup of water and two piloncillo cones to a small sauce pot or pan. Depending on your desired spice level preference, add 1-2 halved habaneros and simmer until the piloncillo is fully dissolved and then remove the habaneros. In a stand mixer or with a handheld mixer, start whipping 1 pound of softened butter. Slowly add in some of the habanero-piloncillo syrup, to taste, while still keeping the integrity of the butter. Pecan Syrup: 1 cup toasted pecans 1 cup dark brown sugar 1 cup water 1 cinnamon stick Add all ingredients to a small sauce pot or pan, bring to a light simmer and let reduce by about half. This episode is brought to you by Deep Eddy Vodka. Check out our Beyond the Plate Merch. Follow us on TW, FB & IG: @btplatepodcast / #btplatepodcast
After a recent trip to Austin, TX, we were wow’ed by her creations. Her corn-based cocktail not only leaves no waste behind, it’s freaking delicious! Enjoy this episode as we go Beyond the Drink… with 20-year bar veteran Caitlin Smith. (cocktail recipe below) Que Masa? This cocktail was inspired by heirloom corn used in the restaurant I worked in. There was no waste and every bit of the corn was utilized. The component recipes will yield more product than needed if you are making this at home. Makes 1 cocktail 1.5 oz Vodka, such as Deep Eddy Vodka .5 oz Mezcal, such as Vago Elote 1.5 oz Corn Milk (recipe below) 1 oz Corn Nectar (recipe below) Corn chile powder (recipe below), optional Fresh cilantro leaves, garnish Add vodka, mezcal, corn milk and corn nectar to a cocktail shaker and add ice. Shake well and strain into a corn chili powder rimmed martini glass. Place cilantro leaf on top. For the Corn Milk: 1 quart cooked corn 1 cup water Add to a blender, puree and strain through a fine mesh strain. Keep the pulp left in the strainer and set aside. For the Corn Nectar: 1 quart water 1 quart sugar 2 cups corn In a medium to large size sauce pot, add the water, sugar and leftover pulp from the corn milk and bring to a boil. When the sugar is fully dissolved, turn off the heat and let cool. When completely cool, strain out the nectar and set aside. NOTE: I keep the leftover corn and pulp, dehydrate it and use if for the corn chile powder rim, but this is optional. For the Corn Chili Powder: In a spice grinder, combine the dehydrated corn pulp/brittle, a stemmed and seeded dried arbol chili, a stemmed and seeded dried ancho chili and salt to taste. Grind to a coarse powder. This episode is brought to you by Deep Eddy Vodka. Check out our Beyond the Plate Merch. Follow us on TW, FB & IG: @btplatepodcast / #btplatepodcast

As we enter this new decade, I thought it would be fun to talk to a few friends and reflect back on what life was like 10 years ago. In these conversations, you’ll hear guests speak about what God has done in their life, their dreams and goals, things they would have done differently, and things they’re most proud of. And, looking back always causes me to look forward, so we’ll also chat about dreams for the next ten years! In today’s episode, we’re going off the beaten path to celebrate. That’s right, it’s Your Last Decade: Graduate Edition!! My first guest today is Caitlin Smith. Caitlin is a native Austinite (aka a unicorn!) and a recent Texas Ex. She just graduated with her Masters of Science in Marketing and has been a sports photographer for UT Women’s Basketball. In this episode, Caitlin and I talk about what it’s been like living in a missional community, how “vulnerability breeds vulnerability,” and how we need to learn how to love mercy not just for ourselves, but for others as well! You guys, Caitlin is so wise and I loved our conversation today. She has navigated graduation in such a tricky season and done so with grace and understanding. I love her advice to college-aged women, to “be confident in who you are and who God created you to be uniquely.” In the second half of the episode, I chat with Holly Norris. Holly lives in Georgia with her husband and just graduated from nursing school. She was nominated to be on the show by her friend Amber -- thanks Amber! In our time together, we got to talk about her time in high school and the ways she believed that nursing was out of her reach and how she trusted in God’s faithfulness and that He would fulfill her dreams and purposes. She tells us about how her passion for nursing is driven by connecting with other people and how she loves that she gets to show Jesus to the people she treats and works with. Her advice is to “never feel like you’re less-than...because God’s going to be there with [you]!” so good! I love how clearly God’s steadfastness shines through Holly’s story and how deeply she has embraced it -- it’s so encouraging. Happy graduation to all of the 2020 grads this year! I’m so excited to see your next 10 years!
We are stuck in a moment. Inside our homes, the days can feel like they're stretching ahead. Aleks Krotoski explores how technologies can lift us out of the mundane and help us regain a sense of control. Jan Scheuermann is a quadriplegic. She's unable to use her arms and legs and controls her wheelchair with her chin. In 2011 she joined a research trial that would change the way she saw herself and her life. We hear from Tom Mast, a college student whose new independent life was put on hold by a pandemic; Tiu de Haan, an ideas doula who has worked with the UN, who explains how building a den or cocoon can trigger daydreaming and help birth new ideas; and psychologist Eli Somer, who is an expert on daydreaming. Caitlin Smith has known about Human Design for a little while now, but discovered a deep resonance with it relatively recently. This emotional 3/5 Generator has weathered vastness in her life experience, coloured by emotional depth and a strong relationship to her intuitive responses. Her experimental journey has led her to living her dharma as a solopreneur providing personalized, guided meditations to her community. Inspired by the wonder of her natural surroundings in North-east Oregon, she trusts life to pulse through her - whether it's being open to receiving and delivering the gift of guidance in the meditations she creates, the coffee tonic recipes she shares or the inherent zest she has for living purposefully. She'll be the first to tell you that arriving at this place was not without pain, struggle and heartache, but without these experiences, she'll also tell you she wouldn't have discovered grace for her process or the depth of gratitude she has for the life she's built now. In this episode, Nikki offers commentary on how the aspects Caitlin shares of her journey relate to the inherent energies of her Human Design.
In this episode with the beautiful and radiant Caitlin Smith, of Caitlin Curiosity, we're lucky enough to hear first hand the incredible trust that she cultivated within herself to listen to her calling to move into nature, which led her to pack up her car and move to a cabin in a state she's never been, in a town of just 200 people. This is where Caitlin's soul-work was born (that she so beautifully shares with all of us - links below!), and as she says, she co-creates alongside nature. She also sheds light on her new, loving relationship and how she's showing up as her true authentic self, her own personally journey within self discovery and so much more. We also have a surprise for you at the end of this episode - you won't want to miss it. Today on the Why Arizona Podcast, your Host Ashley Law is sitting down with her good friend Caitlin Smith of Caitlin Curiosity. Caitlin began her journey into wellness as an organic vegetable farmer in 2011 where her curiosity for using plants as medicine developed. From there her path lead her into a holistic nutrition program at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts and eventually evolved into founding her own wellness studio in Phoenix called Exhale Wellness. Combining her love for holistic nutrition and strength training there, she became deeply passionate about helping women heal their old narratives around their bodies and find empowerment and self-love buried beneath by connecting to themselves again. Caitlin’s advising style revolves around the belief that you have the power to deeply love yourself through your own intuition. Her programs focus on guiding you on how to tune in and connect with your own mind and body — creating wellness and self worth on your terms — and working with plant-based practices to nourish and heal. Kicker producer and ride-or-die Cavs fan Caitlin Smith joins Rob and Dave to discuss sitting in Dan Gilbert's booth, her nearly violent run-in with Zydrunas Ilgauskas as a teenager, and the time she had to deal with an actor running late to set because a spider had bitten him on pretty much the worst place a man can be bitten by a spider. Yeah, you're assumption is unfortunately correct. And then the trio dive into their own "Man in the High Castle" alternative history movie, in which The Decision ends up with LeBron staying in Cleveland, and all the disastrous unintended consequences that accompany such a seismic timeline shift. Can they win the title? How does Karl Malone factor in? How many random 2010-era basketball players can these guys name off the top of their heads? All of these questions will be really vaguely answered in yet another Kicker Podcast Improvised Movie. Thank You For The Reviews!
