Tread Perilously's celebration of Doctor Who at 60 continues with the first of the new anniversary specials, "The Star Beast." Still bewildered by regenerating into a previous face, The Doctor lands in Camden and almost immediately runs into former companion Donna Noble. She can never remember her travels with the Time Lord or her mind will literally burn away. Nevertheless, circumstances keep bringing them together as The Doctor encounters Donna's husband, Shaun, and their daughter, Rose. And to make matters worse, an alien has found its way into Rose's backyard shed, forcing The Doctor to reveal himself and confront the possibility that Donna might die. Justin's appreciation for Peter Davison continues. Erik confronts the weird sensation in welcoming David Tennant back to the role. He also expresses some frustration with the reaction to the recent Mystery Science Theater 3000 crowdfunding campaign. Justin points out a certain retcon in Donna's return. Praise is heaped upon Russell T. Davies. Geography Corner leads to Camden Market and old Pasadena movie theaters. Shaun proves to be popular. The slight weirdness in the timeline regarding Rose leads to a lot of callbacks. "Old Douglas" debuts and Erik makes a case for the theatrical cut of Blade Runner.

Humble Crumble - A food stall that started from humble beginnings, today is the world's first crumble bakery and a multi-million pound business with permanent fixtures in Old Spitalfields and Borough Market. With more than 500,000 crumbles served in the last three years, Humble Crumble has struck a chord with passionate crumble-loving foodies and has no signs of slowing down, with two new sites set to open in London's gastronomic hotspots Camden Market and Covent Garden this year. Kim Innes founded Humble Crumble in 2018, but it wasn't until October 2020 when things took a pivotal turn for her business. With Halloween in sight, Kim produced a moment of magic; introducing the famous Pumpkin-Spiced Crumble, which will forever be recognised as what thrust Humble Crumble into the limelight, making people aware that a crumble bakery existed. The special dessert gleaned viral attention following an Instagram post from Time Out, and then by a TikTok video from a customer. Jeff is a legend of the comedy world, if you haven't heard of him, which many of you won't have, check out this stand up clip.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdzFzg_YvGQ One of the very very best to ever do it.Born in East London during the mid 1950's, Jeff Innocent grew up in a family whose entrepreneurial spirit and activities were not always considered acceptable by the police. He managed to avoid going in to the family business however by taking a keen interest in youth theatre and Jamaican music. He took part in many productions as a teenager, primarily with the East End Soapbox Theatre, a collective which also spawned performance poet John Hegley. But it took over twenty years before he was to tread the boards again as a comedian. After leaving school his first job was as a windowdresser in the mens fashion trade working in London's trendy Kings Road and Carnaby Street during the early 1970's until the early 1980's when he became a mature student at the University of East London studying philosophy and history, achieving a BA Hons and an MA. He maintained his interest in Jamaican music by DJ'ing and contributing to fanzines during this period. His post graduate dissertation topic being, The History of Jamaican Music. He financed his studying by working in the fashion industry at Camden Market and High Street Kensington. It was after his experience at University that he decided to try stand up comedy, something that he had wanted to do for some years. His initiation was at a workshop in Stratford East London run by the God Father of Alternative Comedy, Tony Allen. Although being a stand up comedian and actor dominates much of Jeff's time he still maintains an interest in music and popular culture. He still lives in the East End with his partner of 23 years, the youngest of his four children and his two whippets. But not necessarily in that order.“In short, he's one funny man .” Chortle “Extremely talented cockney philosopher” Time Out“Terrific, thought-through comedy with a big warm heart” The Scotsman“Clever, honest, funny. A wonderfully insightful, open and frank conversation with one of the UK's most successful and impactful entrepreneurs. A journey from Morecambe to Blackburn to Wigan (mostly the Casino) and on to London where Kensington Market sparked the flame for winning fashion brand. A fascinating story of two highly successful businesses borne out of a strong, dynamic relationship. Our guest came to prominence in the 1980's with fashion brand Red or Dead, created by Wayne and his equally talented partner Gerardine Hemingway MBE. In this conversation we explore the opportunities, challenges and decisions that shaped a global fashion brand and subsequently the driving force of Hemingway Design, project successes and future plans. Outline · Early years, Piers to Casino's · Finding a Partner in Life and Fashion · Rent or Debt to Red or Dead · Growing a Global Brand · Next Chapter… Hemingway Design · Passion in Business and Design · What fires you up and drives you in your role? · Advice for Partners in Business Website: https://www.hemingwaydesign.co.uk Twitter: @HemingwayDesign Bio: Bio - Wayne Hemingway MBE. One bright day in 1981, Wayne “borrowed” his girlfriend's (now wife) Gerardine's rent money to buy practice space for the band he then played in. To recoup the cash, he emptied their wardrobes, which were full of handmade and vintage clothing and to his amazement quickly sold out from his pitch on Camden Market. The realisation that money could be made from fashion suddenly dawned. Alongside Gerardine, Wayne built Red or Dead into a globally-celebrated label and, after 21 consecutive seasons on the catwalk, sold it in a multi-million-pound deal to the Pentland Group. In 1999, fresh from the sale of Red or Dead, Wayne and Gerardine embarked on a new adventure: HemingwayDesign. And the rest, they say, is history. Wayne qualified from University with a BSc degree in Geography and Town Planning which he has subsequently had an opportunity to put to very good use with collaborations with major builders including Wimpey on an award-winning site, Staiths, in Gateshead. Wayne spent 6 years as a Design Council Trustee Board and having been with CABE for a decade since its inception (as Chair of Building For Life), has been a Mayors London Leader and currently supports the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan as a Design Advocate. He is an advisor to House of Commons Select Committees on coastal regeneration, got an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list of 2006, is a Professor in The Built Environment Department of Northumbria University, a Doctor of Design at Wolverhampton, Lancaster and Stafford, and an Honorary Fellow of Blackburn College, the University of Cumbria and Regents University. Hey!So my sister Pauline and I went to visit the Vagina Museum in London (inside Camden Market) and it is the very first museum dedicated to all things Vaginas! Yay!It’s such a powerful and much needed initiative to raise awareness of our gynaecological anatomy and health, to give confidence to people to talk about it and help erase the stigma around our body.We went to see the first exhibition called “Muff Busters: Vagina Myths and How to Fight Them”. “Almost half of the world's population has one, yet vaginas and the rest of the gynaecological anatomy are still a taboo subject in many people's daily lives. Like many subjects under-represented within society and education, more myths and legends exist in popular culture about all things “down there” than fact.”The exhibition highlights just a handful of the myths that circulate in popular culture, the internet and many other platforms about the gynaecological anatomy including society's ideals around cleanliness and appearance, periods, contraception and sex.In today’s podcast episode we chat with Pauline about our visit and what we discovered and enjoyed there ;-) We talk about: why we need to keep educating ourselves around our sexuality and anatomy how to keep breaking taboos and bring light to crazy myths our favourite part of the museum and why you’ll want to go too!plus a fun fact about my sister and I…Go ahead and listen to the episode here>> If you have a chance to come to London and visit it: go ahead! And let’s hope more initiatives like this one will start to bloom everywhere! With love,Camille

Good news, World. The Vagina Museum is making a podcast. Treat your ears to this teaser from Vagina Museum founder Florence Schechter, and subscribe to this channel so you don't miss out on amazing vagina content when our first episode drops later this winter.  Vagina Museum Website Twitter Facebook Instagram Donate EPISODE TRANSCRIPT: Hey there. My name is Florence Schechter, and I'm the founder of the Vagina Museum. Yes, you heard right, there's a Vagina Museum. And I'm standing in front of it I'm busy Camden Market. The Vagina Museum is the world's first bricks and mortar museum dedicated to vaginas, vulvas, and  gynaecological anatomy.  When I heard that there was a penis museum in Iceland, but no vagina museum anywhere, I was pretty miffed...or muffed, you might say.  So in 2017 I started a project to create one.  And now, the Vagina Museum team is making history by opening our first premises in London's Camden Market this November.  If you're in the neighborhood, make sure to grab tickets for our opening party or one of our pre-launch workshops or lectures. What's the Vagina Museum all about? We have a vision of a world where no one is ashamed of their bodies, everyone has bodily autonomy, and all of humanity works together to build a society that is free and equal.  We want to spread knowledge and give people the confidence to talk about issues surrounding their gynecological anatomy and health; erase stigma; and act as a forum for feminism, women's rights, the LGBT+ community and intersex people.  Also on the agenda is challenging heteronormative and cisnormative behavior and promoting intersectional, feminist, and trans-inclusive values. If that all sounds good to you, then hit subscribe because the first season of our podcast is going to feature six episodes that will take you deep into the past and present of the vagina.  Ever hear of yoni steaming? We investigated its history. Like saying the word cunt? We've got a whole episode about it. Ever wondered if there were any transgender saints from the medieval ages? We've got the story. Merkins? Check. Placenta? Check. Desperate to know the real story of the vibrator's invention? We've got you.  So subscribe to this channel, tell all your friends the good news, and stay tuned for The Vagina Museum Podcast, coming this winter.  If you can't wait that long for incredible vagina content, follow us on social media and visit the museum website, vaginamuseum.co.uk to learn more, get involved as a member, and support our work.

Born and bred in Notting Hill Gate, West London, Lucinda was introduced to fashion very early on by her mother who was very crafty and one of her skills was dressmaking. She started her fashion journey when she decided to make and sell her own earring designs at Camden Market whilst she was at Art college, eventually working her way up the ranks of the top editorial fashion magazines. Lucinda became the fashion Director of British Vogue for 25 years, plus she consulted on the brands Prada and Marni in their early days, introducing both brands onto the worlds fashion map. She left Vogue in 2017 when the editorship changed. She has now set up her own fashion design company called Colville and is about to launch another online venture later this year. We talk about her amazing career to date, some of the fun stories along the way, plus all her exciting new ventures.

004: Slow Down, Buckaroo Released: March 12, 2019 In this episode, Anne shares what she learned while knitting the first and second swatches of the Master Hand Knitting Program. Thank You for your Pattern Help Anne asked, and listeners responded. A couple of great recommendations came in for Anne's request for a good beginner's sock pattern. Michelle recommended Anne try the Hermione's Everyday Socks pattern, available for free on Ravelry. Nancye from Dragonfly Fibers suggested she pick up a copy of Knitting Rules by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. It hadn't arrived by the time this episode was recorded, but Anne has it now. It has both a "recipe" for socks and an actual pattern, so Anne will be drawing from that as well! Thank you! Knitting Techniques The first two swatches involve knitting K2, P2 and K1, P1 ribbing. In the podcast, Anne discusses three techniques that helped her neaten up ribbing. Listen to the episode to learn more about why ribbing can be tricky and how these techniques might help you. Asking the Questions Anne was a little too hasty in knitting the first few swatches for the program and learned her lesson about taking the time to exhibit some humility and accept she does not, in fact, know everything. Honey This week's affiliate is Honey, an app for your desktop that tracks price changes on Amazon, applies coupon codes for the best deals when you shop online, and earns points to apply toward gift cards when you shop at major retailers. Anne has used it for over a year now and Honey has found many ways to save. Join through this link, and Anne will receive a modest finder's fee to apply toward the cost of running the show. Product Review Nostepinnes are specially formed dowels used to wind yarn into center-pull balls for knitters. Knitter's Pride was very kind to send Anne a selection of products to test in exchange for her honest review. The first product she got to play with was a nostepinne. As promised in the episode, here's the YouTube video that she found the most helpful when she was learning: https://youtu.be/toNeWx0FOjA Anne found the nostepinne to be a helpful addition to her knitting tool kit. It saves the hassle of setting up a ball winder and swift for smaller winding jobs. It's also lightweight and wooden, which makes it a handy tool for those who knit while traveling. For people who are new to knitting, it's an economical option compared to buying a ball winder and swift combo. If you end up sticking with the hobby, those can come later, and the nostepinne can become something you use for the joy of it. The Knitter's Pride nostepinnes are available at many local yarn stores, or you can find them on Amazon, available in two varieties. Help for England! Bath, England: A knitter's paradise? Anne and her aspiring-fashion-designer daughter will be traveling to London at the beginning of April. Anne, the knitter, and Abby, the seamstress, are trying to pack their itinerary with appropriately-themed destinations. Aside from the typical tourist destinations, they will be visiting the Victoria and Albert, Fashion and Textile Museum, Camden Market, and the Village Haberdashery while they are in London, and Wool, Country Threads, and the Fashion Museum while they are in Bath. If you have any other recommendations for them within a 2-hour train ride of Paddington Station, please get in touch! Featured Music The first song featured was "Solo Acoustic Guitar" by Jason Shaw and available at the Free Music Archive. The second song was "Ready to Go" by Arthur Nicholson, a folk singer from Shetland. Arthur's work is insightful and mellow. You'll find yourself singing his choruses to yourself through the day. How Sophia Bhaumick Used A Brutal Assault As A Springboard To Choose An Unlikely Career In Men’s Boxing

Your London Legacy

Every so often I meet a young inspirational person who completely takes my breath away. Sophia Bhaumick is one such individual. From an outcast at school, to captaining the Men’s rowing team— Sophia has travelled extensively, and whilst volunteering in the Philippines after a major typhoon, her life was to take a sudden and unexpected turn when she suffered a horrendous assault. In this hard hitting and very personal interview, Sophia explains how the hard times she has suffered have given her the strength to follow her desire to become a leading light in the tough world of men’s professional boxing. “I kind of realized that I need to do something with the ability that I had – to spot talent, and to push—I’m very good at pushing people” [3:33] Sophia had an interesting childhood which involved living on a farm, learning to break horses, but also included a fair amount of time at boarding school. She didn’t care much for the school itself, but it did introduce her to a wide range of sports—one which she would become captain of: the rowing team. Her dedication to working with the athletes one on one, her drive, and her personality drove her from a young age to work with athletes. [14:16] Sophia ended up in the Philippines after a major typhoon, volunteering to rebuild schools on an island. Her drive to be hands on in making change instead of throwing money at the problem was clearly apparent. She fell in love there and was going to move to the island and stay, but something awful happened in her final days there that changed her life forever. In fact, it was an assault that was not only committed against her, but many other women and children. Sophia then took it upon herself to build centers to advocate for change and help victims of this heinous crime who had nowhere to go. “I remember being sat at the beach after this had happened, and I remember thinking ‘It’s decision time’ either you are going to be a victim—and you’re going to go down a horrible route, or you’re going to take the much harder road and help these people and deal with it.” [19:14] Exposing an awful experience like this wasn’t something easily done alone, highlighting the failings of an entire organization and island. But she was lucky to know three prominent boxers who all wanted to help make a change—and there were too many others affected to sit back and do nothing. In her search to create a space and platform for healing and growth at Reading University—Sophia found herself diving further into the world of boxing. [26:10] The story of Sophia entering boxing isn’t one she’s told before—but it involves her deciding to become a strength and conditions coach. It was a path that led her to helping out many amateur boxers and pushing them through the red tape at the British Boxing Board of Control—elevating an amateur boxer to pro in the process. Feb 28th – Camden Market and Tri Yoga and Sophia’s boxing club is putting on an exhibition on the behalf of mental health awareness. There will be exercises and workshops and talks all involved—all which shows Sophia is succeeding in tying together athletics and mental health, a union she doesn’t see going away anytime soon.   Links Sophia Bhaumick (https://twitter.com/sophiabhaumick) Support this podcast

On this week's show we have a look at our first win of the season, the 3-1 at Watford. We discuss the performances (individual and collective), the impact of Ozil on the team and Alexis, the manager's team selection and the rest. We touch on the soon-to-be-announced signings of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez, before answering questions about the right back situation, the futures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere, who might leave the club before the window closes, before deciding what we'd sell at our fish stall in Camden Market. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
