In recent headlines, alarming reports have surfaced regarding the presence of a cancer-causing chemical, benzene, in popular acne treatment products from well-known brands like Proactiv, Clearasil, Clinique, and others. But amidst the flurry of news, confusion reigns supreme. Should you rush to rid your bathroom shelves of these skincare essentials, or is there more to the story? Join Dr. Christian Gonzalez on the latest episode of Heal Thy Self as we dissect the truth behind benzene in acne products. As major publications such as CNN, TIME, and USA Today amplify the concerns, it's crucial to understand the scope of this issue. Benzene, a known carcinogen, has infiltrated various consumer products over the years, from sunscreens to hand sanitizers and now acne treatments. With its presence in plastics, solvents, and even vehicle exhaust, benzene poses significant health risks upon exposure. Delving deeper into the problem, Dr. Christian Gonzalez explore the reasons why benzene is a cause for concern. Acute exposure to this chemical can lead to a range of adverse effects, including drowsiness, headaches, and respiratory irritation. Furthermore, chronic exposure has been linked to severe health conditions such as leukemia and blood disorders, highlighting the urgent need for vigilance. Enter Valisure, an independent laboratory renowned for its meticulous scrutiny of healthcare products. Their recent investigation into acne products containing benzoyl peroxide—a topical antiseptic—revealed alarming findings. Under elevated temperatures, these products produced benzene at levels exceeding FDA concentrations by a staggering 800 times. Notably, a test conducted on Proactiv acne products stored in a hot environment yielded benzene levels surpassing EPA regulations by over 1200 times. So, where does this leave consumers? With a call to action. Advocate for steering clear of acne care products containing benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and adapalene. Instead, opt for gentler alternatives and prioritize EWG verified personal care products. Ultimately, acne treatment extends beyond skincare; it's about fostering internal well-being. Tune in to Heal Thy Self as Dr. Christian Gonzalez navigate the complexities of benzene in acne products, empowering you to make informed choices for your health and skincare regimen. Show Notes: Understanding the prevalence of benzene in consumer products and its health implications. Examining Valisure's investigation into benzene contamination in acne products. The detrimental effects of benzene exposure on human health, including acute and chronic risks. Practical tips for consumers, including ingredient avoidance and opting for safer alternatives. The significance of holistic approaches to acne treatment, encompassing both external skincare and internal wellness. === Nuzest Go to https://nuzest-usa.com/drg and use code DRG for 20% off all products. Bubble Skincare has been one of the most talked-about Gen-Z-focused beauty brands since launching in November 2020.  “My passion was always about creating brands that could emotionally connect to consumers,” said founder and CEO Shai Eisenman on the latest episode of the Glossy Beauty podcast. Eisenman began her entrepreneurial journey at just 21 years old. Out of the gate, Bubble launched its affordable skin-care products with fun packaging through its own direct-to-consumer website, but in June 2021, it went big, launching in 3,900 Walmart stores. While Walmart was seemingly an unusual beauty retailer to partner with, Eisenman said that 42% of U.S. teens shop at Walmart once or twice a month for skin-care products. Since its debut, Bubble has seen week-over-week sales growth in Walmart, and Bubble has been a key pillar of the retailer's larger beauty strategy. Since the very beginning, Bubble has engaged with Gen Z; the company's first focus groups were comprised of teens who provided feedback on the brand's initial product lineup and formulations, as well as branding and marketing strategies. Eisenman engaged friends and family members' teens in exchange for Sephora gift cards. Looking ahead, Bubble is focused on further customizing its product offerings to satisfy customers' wants and needs. Additionally, the company is launching over-the-counter products which will enable it to steal more market share from heritage skin-care brands like Clearasil and Neutrogena.

Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC is a British multinational consumer goods company. Formed some 200 years ago it is a stalwart of the FTSE100 and turns over some £14bn (2020). It owns some global powerhouse brands in the health/hygiene/nutrition space, many of which are part of the fabric of UK society - Durex, Dettol, Airwick, Clearasil, Nurofen... In this episode we spend time with Greg Duce, Area Ecommerce Director, Europe, Australia and New Zealand at Reckitt and it's a privileged look behind the brands at the realities of moving direct to consumer, embracing digital and maintaining values. We were struck in chatting with Greg at the focus upon people and skills development, the need to move rapidly yet without losing track of the brand values. Greg articulated with great clarity that the transition to digital-first (without leaving behind the successful, multi-billion legacy) requires the ability to see multiple things at the same time - and to act for now and the future at the same time. Greg talks about the need to "win today and win tomorrow', and how this requires the simultaneous adoption of two competing maxims: the first is the mantra of "fewer, bigger, better" investments (using Reckitt's scale), while at the same time placing "bets everywhere to see what sticks" (because you have to recognise that new competitors are not limited to the legacy competitors). This 'duality' is at the heart of the digital approach - a flexibility of mind and approach that is worthy of a chapter or two by Von Clauswitz or Sun Tzu!  The full transcript is available via https://internetretailing.net/retailcraft-retail-podcasts/retailcraft-retail-podcasts   Run time: 47 minutes INFORMATION: Greg Duce: https://www.linkedin.com/in/greg-duce-1888897/  Jamie Merrick: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamiemerrick/  Ian Jindal: www.linkedin.com/in/ianjindal/  and www.twitter.com/ianjindal    Recorded and engineered at Spiritland Studios, UK. “COVID-19 has impacted so many people around the world, and people really are the heart of my leadership and have been the number one priority through the pandemic. It is important to have great brands and great products and great pipeline, but people make the business.” June Lee Risser is Vice President and General Manager for the U.S. Galderma Consumer Care business.  A strategic business leader with a passion for building great brands, June is responsible for leading the U.S. commercial organization for the Galderma portfolio of consumer-available brands, including Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Care products, celebrating 70 years of healthy skin in 2017 and Differin® Gel,  first FDA-approved, prescription-strength retinoid acne treatment available over the counter since 2017.  June joined Galderma in April 2016 as Vice President of Marketing for the Consumer business.  In that role, she redefined the strategy and streamlined the structure of the marketing team to drive stronger growth on the priority brands of Cetaphil and Differin.  Prior to joining Galderma, June spent 12 years with Reckitt Benckiser in roles of increasing responsibility.  During her tenure there, she led key consumer brands such as Lysol and Clearasil to new heights.  As Global Innovation Director for the Personal Care Category based in the U.K., she led strategic planning and innovation for Clearasil. Before that, June was a Managing Director in a brand strategy consulting firm in NYC, Vivaldi Partners, advising clients on marketing and growth strategies.  June holds a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a master's degree from the JFK School of Government at Harvard University. Here are some key takeaways from this conversation with June: Boots on the ground = real commitment. Camp Wonder is the annual event for children suffering from skin disorders that Cetaphil sponsors and is particularly proud of. Instead of just dropshipping products, June and her team attend the event on a regular basis. By being there, their commitment is illustrated, and furthermore, the experience invigorates her and her team because they get to experience the good that the brand does first hand, which is an incredible boost to morale and, therefore, performance. Having a mission is critical for a brand, but make sure your teammates can witness the mission in action up close and personal. Maintain relevance by returning to your brand's core purpose. In this day and age, there are endless amounts of upstarts that are disrupting many businesses, CPG & beauty in particular. To safeguard against this disruption, June recommends staying entirely in touch with what your brand's purpose was on day one instead of constantly reevaluating who you are, thereby confusing consumers. Third-party endorsements can help tremendously, not just doctors but influencer experts as well. Marketing, however, is a constant struggle and requires pivoting and reevaluating your strategies and tactics regularly but make sure you keep your core principles top of mind throughout the journey. Look for courage and integrity in new hires. When asked what she looks for when hiring new candidates, June, without question, stated courage and integrity. She went on to say that sales and marketing skills can be taught, but what cannot be taught are these two qualities that can tremendously enable an employee to have a consistently positive impact on the company's culture and bottom line, particularly during tough times like COVID-19. Find a way to seek these qualities out in your prospective employees in the interview process. This could be through stories of triumph over adversity or stories of courage. Integrity and courage can trump skills and experience in the long term. ----- Produced by https://podcastlaunch.pro (Simpler Media)

Punky Power: An Unofficial Punky Brewster Podcast and Together, We're Gonna Find Our Way: An Unofficial Silver spoons Podcas

Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Together, We're Gonna Find Our Way: An Unofficial Silver Spoons Podcast. Today I covered S3E23: The Secret Life Of Ricky Stratton, which aired on March 24, 1985. In this episode Rick feels bad about himself when he sees how gorgeous his computer date is. This episode deals with body image and how we see ourselves as well as how we think other people see us. The term Grocking as gross as it sounds(to me)simply refers to chatting on the computer with people we've never met in person, pre - internet and World Wide Web days. Long before the days of parents telling their kids to be safe talking to people they chat with online, Edward and Kate tell Rick to go for it and go meet this Wanda girl on a blind date. Luckily for Rick she lives in the same state not somewhere clear across the country like Montana or Utah. She sends him her picture ,which I first thought was fake and cut out of a magazine. I really thought this was going to be a catfish scenario where she sends a picture that isn't her and he meets her and it's someone else. I mean where are Nev and Matt. Turns out it's a lot less complicated. Rick feeling insecure after seeing Wanda's picture tries to improve his looks by taping his ears down (he's really fixated on his ears) then he sees to his horror he has a pimple on his forehead (seriously, you can barely tells it's even there)he slaps some Clearasil on it. We get a weird and creepy nightmare of Rick meeting Wanda at the hamburger joint where he's dressed in plaid and has big fake ears and a huge red dot on his forehead symbolizing a zit (in today's world, it would be considered culturally insensitive, it's a giant red dot between his eyebrows. Kate plays the waitress who insults Rick's looks multiple times, but that's not the creepy part, Edward plays Chip Wanda's high school senior boyfriend. It's goofy and creepy at the same time. Then when Rick goes to meet up with her Wanda who informed by her friend Sally that Rick is very popular at Fuller High and a major babe . Wanda has her own nightmare or I guess day-mare since it's the middle of the afternoon and imagines herself as morbidly obese with a giant nose with Rick being uber popular and all the girls in the hamburger joint hanging off him, In reality it's adorable how awkward they are with each other, the typical we chat online all the time but when we meet in person we have nothing to say or can't find the words. I really didn't like Alfonso referring to Wanda as possibly being a dog as he makes wolf howls (before seeing her picture), Kate sets the boys and Edward straight on appreciating a girl for their mind and not their looks and body. Join me next week for the Season 3 Finale S3E24: The Babysitters, which aired on April 7, 1985. In this episode Rick babysits a girl he suspects was taken from her mother by her father. Insurgent brands that use a direct-to-consumer e-commerce model have seen enormous success over the past few years. Many of them have skyrocketed from fledgling startup to category-leader in seemingly no time at all. Does this new trend mean that all legacy brands are doomed to be disrupted and eclipsed? Not necessarily, according to Nancy Shah, Senior Brand Marketing Manager at RB, a conglomerate that produces health, hygiene, and home products under well-known brands like Clearasil, Lysol, Mucinex, and Durex. According to Nancy, there are tried-and-true strategies for fighting back against insurgent brands and dominating your category. On this episode of Marketing Trends, she lays out those strategies and explains how she has been able to help RB's sexual wellbeing brands maintain their position as category leaders. She also discusses the unique difficulties and opportunities of marketing sexual wellbeing products, her best tips for starting a performance marketing program, and how to break down silos between performance and brand marketing. Links: Full Notes & Quotes: http://bit.ly/2kvaqfw Nancy’s LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/nancy-shah-mba-5571472a/ RB: www.rb.com/ 5 Key Takeaways: - Effective performance marketing is all about testing and learning. - "When we capture more data, we can understand the consumer journey and better inform our media buys and content strategy." - Nancy Shah - To stay relevant, legacy brands need to follow a three-part plan: First, establish robust performance marketing, then drive awareness, and lastly innovate quickly. - "When you give people the autonomy to test and learn and to work cross-functionally to bring teams together, it drives a lot more business." - Nancy Shah - Consumer education is a great opportunity to provide value to the consumer and drive exposure for your brand. Bio: Nancy Shah is a senior brand marketing manager at RB, leading K-Y & Durex brand strategy with a focus on driving growth through e-commerce, performance marketing, and content strategy. ***Warning - this episode contains spoilers*** This week, Karen Tongson and Margaret Wappler chat it up with pop culture maven and Pop Rocket's own podcast godmother Linda Holmes, the host of NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour. The ladies revisit that wonderfully awkward time of their lives of Clearasil and body self-consciousness also known as 8th Grade while doing an in-depth exploration of Bo Burnham's debut film Eighth Grade. The movie centers around this socially awkward teen girl who tries really hard to fit it and be popular at school, but can't quite get there. Karen, Margaret, and Linda harken back to the drama of that time in their own lives, and also flesh out whether one of the scenes in the movie should--or not--be labeled a #MeToo moment. All Abouts Margaret is all about journalist href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/25/magazine/big-business-gwyneth-paltrow-wellness.html">Taffy Brodesser-Akner's latest article in the NYTimes Magazine about Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle brand company Goop and how it went from Paltrow's Martha Stewart-like project to a 250 million dollar company. Linda is all about a new (and disappointing) study on inequality in film out of USC Annenberg that highlights the lack of progress in inclusion in film. Karen is all about Episode 7 of The Affair, specifically the scene that features “sapphic dabbling in a yurt” between Helen (Maura Tierney) and Sierra (Emily Browning).

When the Enterprise is sent to look for the missing USS Drake, Commander Riker is stoked to meet up with an old friend of his from Degrassi High. Unfortunately, when an away team searches for clues on a nearby planet, they discover that ship and crew were killed not by boring rap music, but by a sophisticated weapons system built out of sex toys. How does Captain Picard know parkour? Why is Vincent Schiavelli so great in everything he's in? Will Geordi be happy to know that Dr. Crusher knows so much about roots? This is one episode that's not expendable!

For this year's Cagemas we honor both the kindly St. Nicholas Cage, and Star Wars by picking the Cage-Hayden Christiansen joint, Outcast. Meanwhile, Stuart does an ad for Clearasil, Elliott contributes his worst Popeye, and, yet again, Stu and Elliott interrupt Dan when he's trying to do something nice for other people. Merry Cagemas. Special Cagemas and Cagenuka themes courtesy of Jonathan Biegen. Movies recommended in this episode: The Big Short Magic Mike XXL Bone Tomahawk

Read more »

At the age of 17 Tracy landed his first commercial  for Clearasil and he has been going strong ever since.   Just a few of his modeling credits include being "Cosmopolitan Man of the Year"; one of the original Soloflex men; countless magazine covers including Vogue; and modeling for major designers like Giorgio Armani. Tracy James is well-known not only for his extensive modeling career but also his charity work for Peta, The African Peace Project and The Museum of Natural History. In the course of Tracy’s career touring the world, many companies would frequently ask Tracy to mentor newer models so they could learn the ropes from a veteran:  how to market themselves to casting directors, dress for the audition, carry themselves and sometimes just how to get around in a new city.  Tracy James became one of the greatest mentors in the modeling & acting industry. With hundreds of print advertisements, commercials, films, TV appearances and high profile campaigns, Tracy James' knowledge of the industry is vast and expansive. And he joins Candi & Randy to share some of that knowledge tonight.
