Hotel Mars, Doug Messier, Weds, 2-25-26Doug joined John Batchelor and myself to discuss the plight of the Boeing Starliner spacecraft. He went over the recent problems with the capsule that stranded astronauts on the ISS until SpaceX could bring them safely home using Dragon. Araz mentioned that telescopes and passive RF techniques are used to track debris in geostationary orbit, while John Jossy highlighted SpaceX's new Stargaze system, which significantly increases detection capability through star trackers.Our two guests announced a new space tracking capability using star trackers, which can monitor approximately 60-70% of objects that radars can track. Araz explained that this technology, developed through a government contract, allows for better space situational awareness by leveraging the numerous star trackers already in orbit, particularly on Starlink satellites. Een verlaten Chinees restaurant in het centrum van Dokkum blijkt een goed verborgen drugslab. „Boa's vertrouwden het niet en schakelden de politie in”, vertelt verslaggever Wietske Koen in onze misdaadpodcast Radio Ramkraak. Tijdens hun ronde zagen handhavers een man via een raam naar binnen klimmen bij een pand dat al enige tijd leegstond. „Dat vonden ze dermate verdacht dat ze besloten een kijkje te nemen,” vertelt burgemeester Johannes Kramer in de podcast Radio Ramkraak. Eenmaal ter plaatse zagen de boa's verschillende aanwijzingen die wezen op de aanwezigheid van een drugslab: afgeplakte ramen, een geïmproviseerde afzuiginstallatie en een sterke chemische geur. De politie werd ingeschakeld en kort daarna volgde een inval. Binnen troffen agenten een volledig functionerend drugslaboratorium aan. De ontdekking van het drugslab is een signaal dat intensievere controles nodig zijn. In de gemeente Noardeast-Fryslân wordt daarom gekeken naar nieuwe en slimme middelen om criminaliteit sneller op te sporen, waaronder het gebruik van drones. „Met een drone kunnen boa's sneller controleren wat bijvoorbeeld achter een pand gebeurt,” zegt Kramer. „Dit helpt hen om verdachte situaties efficiënter te beoordelen en door te geven aan de politie.” Drones worden al ingezet in andere delen van het land, zoals in de haven van Harlingen. „|Daar kunnen camera's zelfs kleine details, zoals een horloge om iemands pols, vanuit de lucht waarnemen”, weet Wietske. Het is een bijzondere manier om toezicht te houden, maar wel eentje die volgens de burgmeester zorgvuldig moet worden ingezet. Sterker nog: veel van de regels werken helemaal niet positief uit voor de natuur, maar wél negatief voor de ondernemers. Daar komt nog bij dat de uitkoopregeling – je weet wel, die woest aantrekkelijke regeling van Minister Van der Wall – fiscaal gezien een draak is met onder de motorkap tal van complicaties. Alle reden dus om in deze RB Podcast met expert Lubbert van Dellen, Marktdirecteur Agro & senior bedrijfsadviseur bij Flynth in Dokkum onder die motorkap te kijken. Voor de laatste aflevering in deze Europese ronde van de Binnenkamer gaat Harmen naar de meeste noordelijke stad van ons land: Dokkum. Daar woont Anja Haga (1976) van de ChristenUnie. Zij is de minst ervaren Europarlementariër omdat ze pas sinds september 2023 in Brussel is gestationeerd. Maar onervaren in de politiek is ze allerminst. Ze was al lid van Provinciale Staten in haar geliefde Friesland én wethouder in Arnhem. Maar nu zet ze zich in voor haar idealen vanuit Brussel. Zo streeft ze naar een plastic vrije toekomst. Zelf leeft ze al 5 jaar plastic-vrij.Haga is de enige Europese lijstrekker in deze serie. Al komt dat ook omdat de ChristenUnie maar 1 zetel in het parlement heeft. Lukt het haar om de komende verkiezingen winst te behalen? Of verliest haar partij zelfs deze zetel en keert ze terug naar Friesland...Aan haar eerlijkheid en oprechtheid zal het niet liggen. Wist u dat de kosten voor een crematie enorm kunnen verschillen? In Almere betaal je voor een simpele crematie minder dan 400 euro, terwijl je voor een vergelijkbare crematie in Dokkum ruim 1200 euro kwijt bent. Dat is ruim drie keer zo duur dus. Het blijkt allemaal uit onderzoek van uitvaartwinkel Uitvaartland. Hoe kunnen die verschillen zo groot zijn? En wordt er misbruik gemaakt van de positie waarin nabestaanden zitten? De zorgsector in Nederland stond in de jaren nul in het teken van schaalvergroting en efficiëntie. De zorg was weliswaar nog niet overgeheveld naar gemeenten, zoals later zou gebeuren, maar moest wel steeds meer geloven aan het marktdenken.  Zo ook Stichting Zorggroep Pasana in het noorden van het land. Pasana ontstond uit fusie na fusie en bevatte voor zijn faillissement niet alleen ziekenhuis De Sionsberg in het Friese Dokkum, maar ook verpleeghuizen, zorgcentra en panden waar mensen begeleid woonden.  De Sionsberg komt eind jaren tien in zwaar weer terecht: het ziekenhuis krijgt te weinig klandizie om de zorg op een goede en financieel gezonde manier te kunnen leveren. De verliezen worden opgevangen door de ouderenzorg die de zorggroep ook levert. Tot overmaat van ramp zet de Inspectie Gezondheidszorg de afdeling cardiologie onder verscherpt toezicht, omdat de kwaliteitscontrole niet op orde is.   Een fusie met naburig ziekenhuis Nij Smellinghe moet soelaas bieden. Maar nadat dit in 2012 op bestuurlijk niveau plaatsvindt, lijkt een economische en juridische fusie steeds onwaarschijnlijker. En dan verliezen de zorgverzekeraar en de bank het vertrouwen en trekken de stekker eruit in november 2014. Dokkum is in rep en roer omdat het lokale ziekenhuis nu echt dreigt te verdwijnen.   Aan Hans Silvius, curator en partner van De Haan Advocaten & Notarissen, de taak om de gezonde tak van de zorggroep een goed onderkomen te geven en op zoek te gaan naar een partij die het ziekenhuis in sterk afgeslankte vorm kan doorstarten. Maar dan komt fusiepartner Nij Smellinghe met een claim van 17 miljoen euro...    Onder curatoren  Niet elk ondernemersavontuur eindigt met een notering in de Quote 500, niet elk bedrijf overleeft een flinke crisis, niet elke onderneming weet het financiële spel goed te spelen. Twee weken geleden in aflevering 147 ben ik geëindigd in Dokkum, in het noorden van Nederland. Van daaruit ben ik via het midden van het land doorgereisd naar Dordrecht. Ken je trouwens de Hoge Veluwe? Dat is een groot natuurgebied ten zuiden van Apeldoorn. Je vindt er bossen, stuifzand en heidevelden. De hei staat nu in bloei, dus dat is een prachtig gezicht. Veel mensen komen naar het park om wild te spotten, zoals edelherten en wilde zwijnen. De meeste kans om deze dieren te zien is aan het einde van de dag bij een observatieplaats. Hey god dag kære lyttere! Alex is Deens aan het oefenen voor zijn vakantie. Om te beginnen met het uitspreken van al het lekkers bij de lokale bakker. Kanelsnegles? Anne en Hanneke blijken een dirty mind te hebben. Alex snottert door, het werk als kinderarbeidopzichter op zijn eigen erf heeft z'n tol geeist. Nynke is als opzichter op Vliebiza missing in action. How can you capture the complex motion of interstellar gas? What connects dragonflies with taking pictures of interstellar gas? Strapping a whole bunch of cameras together can help scientists image the faintest of light.
