Daniel Kang, VP of finance at Mercury, joins CJ for a dive deep into the nuances of annual planning. Dan talks about why if annual planning feels like a finance exercise, it is destined to fail and will feel like pulling teeth. He describes how to use this exercise to lead a broader strategic discussion about a company's direction for a process that is more impactful and less tedious. Dan also highlights that if you're searching for big ideas during the annual planning process, there may be underlying issues with your company's roadmap or innovation processes. He touches on the idea that planning tends to expand to fit the time allotted, explains why most companies spend too much time on it, and warns against the trap of false productivity. The conversation delves into how the planning process evolves with a company's growth, including how to calibrate for each stage and ensure plans are actionable. Throughout the episode, Dan provides frameworks to streamline annual planning for a successful outcome. If you're looking for an ERP head to NetSuite: https://netsuite.com/metrics and get a customized KPI checklist.—SPONSORS:Mercury is the fintech ambitious companies use for banking and all their financial workflows. Show Notes: 00:00:00 - Introduction, Introduction to the podcast episode and the guest, Warren Berger, who is an expert in questioning and author of the book A More Beautiful Question. 00:01:23 - Importance of Questioning, Warren discusses the importance of questioning and how it is a powerful tool for problem-solving and decision-making. He emphasizes that questioning should be recognized as a field of study and incorporated into education and business training. 00:04:29 - Questioning and Design Thinking, Warren explains his background in writing about design thinking and how it led him to explore the role of questioning in problem-solving. He highlights that designers and successful business leaders are often skilled questioners. 00:07:06 - Researching Questions, Warren shares his research approach, which involves studying how different fields and professionals use questioning. He mentions sources such as Harvard Business Review and Psychology Today, and notes that there are few books dedicated solely to questioning. 00:10:47 - The Challenge of Writing about Questions, Warren discusses the challenge of expanding the topic of questioning from a chapter in a book to multiple books. He emphasizes the limitless depth and breadth of the subject and his commitment to exploring it fully. 00:15:26 - The Power of Questioning, Warren discusses how questioning leads to breakthroughs and innovation, emphasizing that many innovations start with a simple question. He introduces his first book, which explores the general concept of questioning with a focus on innovation. 00:16:16 - Questioning in Different Areas, Warren explains that people approach questioning from different angles depending on their interests. He highlights the relationships between questioning and creativity, decision-making, relationships with others, and leadership. Businesses are recognizing the importance of leaders who can ask insightful questions. 00:17:31 - The Book of Beautiful Questions, Warren's second book delves into four key areas where questioning is relevant: creativity, leadership, relationships, and decision-making. He offers examples of useful questions in each area and encourages readers to come up with their own. 00:18:31 - Questioning in Education, Warren's third book, targeted at educators, focuses on how to encourage students to ask more questions. He emphasizes the importance of engaging students' curiosity and creating a classroom environment where questioning is encouraged. 00:21:02 - Modeling Questioning Behavior, Warner discusses the importance of modeling questioning behavior, both for teachers and parents. He explains that demonstrating a balance of confidence and humility as a questioner can inspire others and create a more approachable leadership style. Intellectual curiosity is a valuable trait for both leaders and learners. 00:30:45 - The Three Types of Questions, The three types of questions are why, what if, and how. These questions work together in a cycle to push you forward and prevent you from getting stuck. Each question serves a different purpose in the problem-solving process. 00:31:19 - The Importance of the Why Question, The why question helps you understand the problem and its importance. However, it's important not to get trapped in the philosophical stage of constantly asking why. The why question is the first step in the process. 00:31:50 - Moving to the What If Stage, After asking why and gaining an understanding of the problem, it's time to start asking what if. This stage is for brainstorming and speculating on possible solutions. However, it's important not to get stuck in this stage and move on to the next. 00:32:28 - The How Question, The “how” question is about implementation and practicality. It's about figuring out how to solve the problem and get started. This question should be the last step in the process, after understanding the problem and exploring possible solutions. 00:35:30 - The Importance of Spending Time on Each Stage, It's important not to rush through any of the stages. Spending time on each stage ensures that you have a deep understanding of the problem, explore different possibilities, and then figure out how to implement the solution. Don't shortchange any of the stages. 00:44:52 - The Power of Beautiful Questions, Warren discusses the importance of formulating a powerful question that can drive motivation and purpose. He encourages individuals and companies to focus on mission questions rather than mission statements, as questions are ongoing and open-ended. 00:46:14 - Finding Your Beautiful Question, Warren encourages listeners to find their own beautiful question, a question that they can continuously pursue and work on throughout their lives. He also suggests that businesses should have mission questions that drive their purpose and motivate their employees. 00:47:18 - Conclusion, Melina's top insights from the conversation. Unf*ck Your Biz is here!
On today's episode I sit down with wedding videographer and student of mine, Jessie Hinkel about when she decided it was time to create her LLC and join my membership. Have you signed up for our free upcoming masterclass "The Most Common Legal and Tax Mistakes at Each Stage of Business and How You Can Avoid Them." I'm going to show you how you can make the ultimate shift from struggling to manage your business gremlins like the finances and legalities to creating ease, automation, and peace of mind. And then I'm going to open the doors to Unf*ck Your Biz and answer questions. Catch it at 9:00am PST or 12:00pm PST. Register at www.bradendrake.com/masterclass to watch it live so you can ask me questions during the Q&A or catch the replay. Jessie has had her videography business for the last ten years, both part and full time over the last decade. She learned from her husband who taught videography at a high school. He was asked to film friends' weddings and Jessie began to learn and work with him and it has now evolved into her business. In December of 2022, Jessie became a Profit Rx member. The content inside Profit Rx is what will be used in the re-launch of my program, Unf*ck Your Biz. Before joining, Jessie did the bare minimum on the legal and tax side of her business and didn't have a real understanding of the numbers in her business. Prior to joining she had just created her LLC in September and wished she had found Profit Rx sooner. Despite having had a business for almost a decade, Jessie felt like an imposter and that she didn't feel like she knew enough of this side of the business. She decided to file her LLC so that her business and her family would feel more protected and that she could feel like her business had a more solid footing on which to grow. Starting the p Attending our weekly co-working has helped Jessie feel connected when being self-employed can feel isolating. That's part of why we're moving back to the Unf*ck Your Biz program in a co-hort model so everyone comes with questions on the same module at the same time to work together. Jessie has become more excited about her numbers and is enjoying watching them paint the full picture of her year. She is looking at hiring her first person to help on the backend of her business. She set up automated tax savings with Novo so that the money is automated to be set aside and not spent. I also automate my business finances and now my personal finances as well to set aside for savings. I recommend everyone add one building block per quarter to incorporate new automations. On the horizon, Jessie wants to save money for larger purchases, like a new camera. If you're consider joining the Unf*ck Your Biz program and have been in business for awhile, Jessie felt the same way, feeling like she should know all the things because she had business for so long. She was worried about looking stupid and had trouble finding someone local that understood her business and wanted to work with someone of her size. I'm not here to teach you how to run your business, I'm here to teach you how to keep more of your money and marketing programs are here to teach you how to make more money. On today's episode I chat with Emily Monus about how the relationship with her business finances has changed since working through the Unf*ck Your Biz material. Emily is a wedding and event planner primarily serving LGBTQIA+ and vegan wedding clients in the New York City area. She started her business officially in 2016 and credits a big part of where she is today to the last few years and becoming a recovering people pleaser which has led to a mini explosion of growth. She also got in control of her finances (including stopping throwing her books together in a day before taxes). Currently Emily is projecting to make $75k in her business this year, up from $40k the year before. A surreal number for Emily. About $20k comes from non-profit clients and the rest from wedding planning clients. Her packages range from $4,500 for management only to $9,800 for full service. She also just recently hired her first employee and her next goal is $100k. Emily is on top of it because when it comes to hiring, I always like to think about when are you going to hit capacity? How many clients can you handle in a year (I call this your ceiling) and what revenue marker do you need to start to hire? You want to solve capacity issues before you get capacity problems. Because you're paying your employees hourly, you won't be paying them unless you have work for them which allows the work to scale. Once this person hits 70-80% capacity, you then hire your next person. I feel like you need enough wiggle room where if you had a 15-20% increase in your leads next month you wouldn't need to turn them away due to capacity. Emily is a current Profit Rx student, my current membership. I'll be taking the core curriculum from Profit Rx, putting it back into my signature program Unf*ck Your Biz, and make Profit Rx our monthly on-going support after the program. Emily joined in December 2022 and told herself she needed to get her business under control and this side of the business and finances felt like the last piece of her life she needed to get under control. She had a difficult relationship with money throughout her life and wanted to have a system and get non-judgemental support. She started by reading the textbook and started the parts and attended the monthly Q&As to build community and get the work done during weekly co-working calls. I set up Emily's books and we got her on her Profit Rx plan and Emily took it from there. She's been keeping up with bookkeeping and noticed in February and March that with not as much going on she switched to an every other week bookkeeping schedule and plans to move back to more frequently as busy season approaches. Getting control of her finances has made Emily less afraid to invest in things she might not otherwise spend money on because she has a better understanding of how much money she has and can better future forecast. She charges her clients with monthly payments which helps her track future monthly revenue. In her bookkeeping, we also set up tracking by project type so Emily is able to see how much she's making off management, partial planning and full planning. In the upcoming version of Profit Rx (our post-program support), our core component will be to submit your monthly P&L along with observations, monthly goals and projections to help keep everyone accountable and tracking profit margins. There's no doubt that quality leads are key to business success. Without high-quality leads, you won't be able to build a successful business. But how do you generate quality leads? And more importantly, how do you make sure that your leads are quality leads? In this blog post, we'll explore these questions and more. We'll also discuss the importance of lead nurturing, and how you can ensure that your lead conversion rate is high. By the end of this blog post, you'll have a better understanding of lead quality and how it affects your business. What is a Quality Lead? Businesses of all sizes are constantly looking for ways to grow and expand. One key way to achieve this is by acquiring high quality leads. A quality lead is a customer that has been contacted and converted into a paying customer. To ensure that you're nurturing potential customers in the best way possible, it's important to capture as much information about your leads as possible. This includes things like their name, email address, company name, and what product or service they are interested in. Once you have this valuable information, it's time to set up a system that rewards successful lead nurturing strategies. This will help you reach your business goals faster! Why Lead Quality is Important? In today's market, lead quality is more important than ever. Not only are they essential for generating sales, but lead quality can also mean the difference between success and failure. Poor lead quality can lead to lost opportunities and wasted money, while high-quality leads require time and effort to convert into customers. Make sure you're investing in the right channels to generate quality leads - this includes lead generation strategies like email marketing and lead capture forms, as well as lead nurturing strategies like email automation and lead scoring. By doing so, you'll help your business grow faster and reach its potential. How to Generate More Quality Leads? Generating quality leads is key to success for any business. They convert better into customers, which leads to increased sales and profits. There are many ways to generate quality leads, but being systematic and consistent is the key to success. Some tips for generating quality leads include using lead capture forms, email campaigns, and pop-ups ads. By being selective with your marketing tactics, you can increase the likelihood of success for your business. So go ahead and get started - quality leads are waiting! 1. Map Your Target Audience Before you start any content marketing initiatives, it is important to have a clear idea of who your target market is. Once you know this, it's time to decide on the channels that will be best suited for reaching them. There are various inbound channels - email, social media, PR- which can all be used to reach your target audience. However, quality leads are essential if you want your content marketing campaigns to result in sales and profits. So make sure that you're harvesting quality leads from different sources (like lead gen forms or landing pages) and nurturing them until they convert into paying customers! 2. Plan for Each Stage of the Buyer's Journey Without high-quality leads, it will be virtually impossible for your business to succeed. A lead generation plan should cater to each stage of the buyer's journey - from pre-qualification all the way through purchase. There are various ways you can generate quality leads: email marketing, social media campaigns etcetera. The most important thing is to test and measure the success of your lead generation strategies regularly so that you can fine-tune them as needed. 3. Analyze Your Competition When it comes to content marketing, one of the most important things you can do is figure out how your competitors are doing and then aim to beat them at their own game. Through market research, you will be able to identify what people want and then provide it in a way that is both interesting and relevant. Good quality leads come from reaching out directly to target customers through email or phone calls - this way, you'll get an accurate understanding of customer needs and preferences. 4. Nurture Leads with Targeted Content Nurture leads with quality content and you will be on your way to success. Quality leads are the lifeblood of any business, as they are the people who will convert into customers. However, generating them is only half the job - keeping lead nurturing alive until paying customers are generated is crucial for long-term success in B2B marketing. Creating high-quality content that resonates with your target market is key to nurturing leads until they become sales-ready customers. Make sure you address their concerns and provide solutions to their problems; let them know what benefits they can expect if they make a purchase from you or sign up for your newsletter/listing email list now! 6. Focus on Growing Your Email List

Kison was also an M&A advisor for ten years, having sold large companies such as commercial banks and hotel chains. Maury also takes us into the story of how he got into Hollywood and how he transformed himself from the kid who couldn't raise his hands in school to a capable public speaker, and that one time he opened for comedian Joe Rogan. That's for the sales people and it's for executives too. The reason I say that is it's all based on fact but I got to get it across fast. Salespeople are failing out there because they don't have the basic skills to grab attention and then be memorable." Maury: "Sure, you get plenty of sales without your story in there. They're probably low value, they're probably the cheap shots, you're probably making quota or getting to your quota. But the folks that are really good at this, the folks that really can tell a great story, can get somebody else to share, they're the ones bringing in the six, the seven, even eight-figure deals because they're building a relationship." Maury: "The hero of the story is them. You're not the hero. Don't tell me you're here to make a bunch of money. Don't tell me your IPO is gonna put 10 million in your pot. Nobody wants to hear that. They want to hear how it helps them. And if you get served because of it, fantastic. But they're the hero of the story." Maury: "If you confuse, you will lose. Gotta keep it simple." In this episode of the Revenue Builders podcast, John Kaplan and John McMahon talk to veteran recruiter, Chad Peets. As a Managing Director of Sutter Hill Ventures, Chad is responsible for building the go-to-market teams globally for their portfolio companies. Chad talks about his process for recruiting, particularly for the CEO and CRO roles. HIGHLIGHTSBuilding a world-class sales organization goes beyond recruitment Managing expectations is a balancing actExperience will bring you successQuestions that CRO candidates should ask when looking for new opportunitiesThe War on Talent and The Great ResignationWhy CROs have the hardest job in software sales Traits of a candidate that's going to be hired QUOTESChad: "You bring the fundamentals of the playbook. But every time you go into a situation, it's a unique situation so you're gonna have to tweak and make changes to that playbook to adjust, if you will, for the company that you're in, the market that you're in, the product that you're selling, etc.”Chad: "You have to be focused on the long-term and building out world class sales organizations. Knock 2022 Housing Forecast Reveals the Best Markets for Each Stage of Life Austin is the best market for millennials, Miami rises to the top for Gen X and Pittsburgh ranks No. 1 for baby boomers NEW YORK, Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- With affordability and limited supply expected to keep the housing market competitive and remote work and the desire for more space influencing decisions on where to live, Knock, the fast-growing homeownership platform that makes all homebuyers Power Buyers, today released its ranking of the best housing markets by generation in 2022. Austin, Texas, ranks No. 1 for millennials, while Miami is the best market for Gen X and Pittsburgh tops the list for baby boomers. Two markets – Austin and Knoxville, Tenn. – are the only metros to make two lists. "Although we do expect the housing market to moderate in 2022, homebuyers will continue to face many of the same challenges they did last year. Rising interest rates will offset any relief buyers get from slowing home price growth. The good news is the rise in remote work has given many people the freedom to rethink where they want to live, opening up options for those willing to explore new cities that offer relative affordability, growing economies and access to the amenities important to them," said Knock Co-Founder and CEO Sean Black. To compile the list of top markets, Knock ranked the nation's 100 largest metropolitan areas based on affordability, the availability of housing stock and key attributes important at each stage of life. The analysis takes into account Knock's 2022 housing forecast which expects the national median sale price to grow 8% to $399,484 year-over-year, homes to sell in an average of 20 days down from 22 in 2021 and months of supply to fall 11% to 2.1, well below the average of four to five months in a balanced market. With six of the top 10 millennial markets located in the South and two each in North Carolina and Texas, the top 10 millennial markets in rank order are: Austin, Texas; Des Moines, Iowa; Charleston, S.C.; San Antonio; Atlanta; Providence, R.I.; St. Louis; Winston-Salem, N.C.; Charlotte, N.C. and Spokane, Wash. More geographically diverse than the best markets for its younger and older counterparts, the top 10 markets for Gen X in rank order are: Miami; Austin, Texas; Knoxville, Tenn.; Portland, Ore.; Boise, Idaho; Omaha, Neb.; Raleigh, N.C.; Phoenix; Salt Lake City and Boston. Knock Media Release continued in the We Get Around Network Forum (www.WGANForum.com) here: https://forum.we-get-around.com/topic/16275/page/1/knock-2022-housing-forecast-reveals-the-best-markets-for-each-stage-of-life/
What if you don't have a calling from God . . but callings? Often we think of our calling as a singular moment of divine purpose revealed to us in young adulthood and static for the rest of our lives. But consider how God usually works. He created the cosmos in six successive days. Might He not also have six seasons of calling for the lives of His people? Brian Sanders has taken a deep dive into this and joins us with an overview from his book, The 6 Seasons of Calling: Discovering Your Purpose in Each Stage of Life, from Moody Publishers. On this episode of the podcast I share my own personal experience on the Oh Shit cycle of back taxes. This episode is brought to you by my new FREE Masterclass, "The Most Common Legal and Tax Mistake at Each Stage of Business and How to Avoid Them." In this Masterclass you will learn if it's time to go from a sole proprietorship to an LLC, an LLC to a S-Corp, and how to properly run an S-Corp. You'll learn how to get more profitable in a snap and put your taxes on auto-pilot as well as how to manage the growth of your business without fear or IRS hate mail or lawsuits. Click here to sign up for the Masterclass. I want to start off by telling you that back taxes are more normal than you think. About a third of my students owe back taxes and another third usually aren't up-to-date on their quarterly taxes. If you get a letter from the IRS, don't freak out. When I started my business I knew I should be saving for taxes but I kept procrastinating. I kept putting it towards expenses saying I'll make up for it later when i start making more. But what happened is instead of making up for it later, I started increasing my business expenses. My first year of my business I didn't end up owing because my profit was low and my husband's refund covered what I owed.. The same happened my second year and in the third year I grossed $70,000, profited about $35,000 and I paid about half of the taxes and was left with the rest in back tax on top of my quarterly taxes for the new year. So I got off my money hamster wheel and decreased my expenses to increase my profit. Then I got a letter that I owed 2018 back taxes and my 2020 quarterly tax savings went to paying those off. I then increased the my auto-save amount on my quarterly taxes to 40% to get caught up. I have privileges that not everyone has such as my spouse and his stable income as well as my business profit. Your ability to catch-up on taxes is based on how much discretionary income you have and are able to put toward it, it's different for everyone but if you're not in a position to make fast changes or save more, getting out of the Ohh Shit Cycle is possible and we work on it together in the Unf*ck Your Biz course.

Joining Unf*ck Your Biz, Amanda was coming to terms with how irresponsible she had felt as a business owner about the backend of her business and wanting to find someone to help her move past the embarrassment she was feeling about back taxes. We are our harshest critic and instead of embarrassment we just need to set up better systems and understanding to move forward. Amanda got a deeper understanding of her accounting and where she was undercharging. Had she unf*cked her biz earlier, Amanda said she wouldn't have priced her services higher now that she had better understanding of accounting for taxes and cost of doing business. Joining the course, Amanda was just coming for the tax aspect of the course, but as we dug into learning about sole props, LLCs and S Corps, she decided to set up an LLC as an added layer of protection for her business, giving her the confidence to expand her business in areas where fear of the legal aspects was holding her big from "getting that big." Sometimes we start off very well-intentioned, and then we get overwhelmed with choices and burned out because we've created too much for ourselves. We do this with the legal and tax aspects too. We get really well-intentioned, maybe it's with setting up Quick Books and getting our bookkeeping in order with sub accounts and then we realize we've created an over-complicated system. I also see this with legal systems, for example people starting out their business and immediately becoming an S-Corp. This is why I developed the Unf*ck Your Biz framework to teach you step-by-step about quarterly tax, legal entities, creating systems to pay back taxes, cash flow and opening bank accounts, setting up your contracts, organizing your bookkeeping and how to do it, and more strategic steps for getting your business unf*cked.

I am self-employed (single-member LLC) and I know that I will, of course, have to pay taxes. My husband (employee for a company, not self-employed) is concerned that if we file together he will not get a return. Should we file together or separately? What are some pros/cons for this? - submitted by Bristol E If we are married and filing jointly then our taxes are based on our household income. For example, if you did not pay your quarterly taxes then what you owe would "come out" of your husband's refund. If you file separately this would not be the case however filing jointly also comes with a bit of a tax break so when you understand the intricacies it can make it a bit easier. 2. I just switched my biz from a sole proprietor to a single member LLC when I file my income taxes next year, do I need to complete 2 Schedule Cs? One for the sole prop business and one for the LLC? Both businesses are identical in every way except name. - submitted by Kate L No. LLCs are disregarded entities so you file in the exact same manner you have before. 3. My company is currently a single-member LLC. I now know that I'm missing important tax benefits because of this. How do a add a 2nd member - my husband? - submitted by Khalia W I wouldn't say you're missing important tax benefits. A single member LLC is taxed the same as a sole proprietorship. Check out my blog on S Corps. I don't typically recommend you add a second member unless you want to be equal members in the business with your spouse meaning you need to make your single member LLC a multi-member LLC. 4. If I am a sole proprietary owner of a brand new business but didn't actually make money last year and didn't pay myself do I have to file quarterly income taxes? - submitted by Kate G We don't file quarterly taxes, we just pay quarterly taxes which is based on our net income so if you didn't profit any money then you don't need to worry about quarterly taxes. 5. What's the maximum dollar amount you can make before you have to file taxes? Double check with a Google search to stay up-to-date but currently it is $600 in self-employment income. I tell people you want to file taxes no matter what. If you only made that much money you might actually qualify for tax credits that you wouldn't get if you didn't file. 6. A friend and I want to start a business together. We want to create a partnership agreement as well as (or maybe in addition to) creating a business structure. I'm thinking an S-Corp, she's thinking multi partner LLC. Two part question - is a partnership agreement separate from a business structure? To make things easy at tax time is a multi partner LLC or S-Corp easier to file? - submitted by Brandy B Either way you want to form a multi-member LLC, I don't recommend general partnerships. You form the LLC first then you make a tax election for an S-Corp. When you have an S-Corp you have to put yourself on payroll. When you have a partner you also need to put them on payroll so an S-Corp election will not typically make sense for a new business. 7. How do you write off your home internet? My husband spends 5 days a week 8-5pm on it for work since Covid has forced him to work from home, while I tend to use about 30 hours a week for work purposes. Obviously, we also use it for pleasure when not working. - submitted by Brittany G Utility section underneath home office deduction. I now know that I’m missing important tax benefits because of this. 4. While I was looking through the responses business owners shared with me as to why they did not join the Unf*ck Your Biz course I noticed that 25% of the responses all said the same thing. "I'm too beginner." Whether you buy the course or not, this is pep talk to you that your business is not "too beginner." If you view yourself as a hobbyist, once you start selling the things you're creating it becomes a business because you now have tax obligation. When you refer to yourself as a beginner, a freelancer, or a hobbyist, not only is it a limiting belief, it also means you're not properly setting up your business and getting the critical education you need to understand what you need to do in your business an why. A lot of responses shared that they would prefer to hire an attorney or tax professional to do it for them. In 1:1 services like these, the service provider does not take the time to educate you on what they have done for you an if they do take time to sit with you and explain your books, taxes, legal paperwork, etc. you will then be paying an arm and a leg in hourly rates. The IRS does not care how seriously you do or do not take your business to decide how they are going to tax you. Your clients do not care how seriously you do or do not take your business if they plan to take legal action, you need the legal layers of protection in place.

With multiple income streams, Connie was starting to get scared taking on more clients not knowing what she owed in taxes or how to pay them, especially being in a partnership and not knowing how that impacts cash flow. Unf*ck Your Biz taught Connie how to split expenses with a partner in another state, set up a bank account, create an LLC for her virtual assistant business. You don't need a DBA/trade name if you are operating as the same name as your LLC. This was one of the lessons that Connie learned she had made a mistake with prior to taking the Unf*ck Your Biz course. The mistake cost her almost $200. The course covers the business aspects that no one is checking in with you on, for example shielding yourself from liability or the changes you need to go through when moving states. Researching domestication of my client's LLC from one state to another and discovered their LLC expired in January. Can they still switch states if it's expired, or will they have to renew it first? They asked if they should just apply for the LLC in their new state and dismiss the old one but wouldn't that cause problems with the payments received since January not going to their current tax ID? - submitted by Jenna L From a tax perspective, if this person is an LLC it doesn't matter because it's a pass-through entity. We may put in our EIN when we pay taxes but usually we're just putting in our SSN and ultimately it doesn't matter. When we file our tax return our business income gets included on our personal tax return so at the end of the day, the IRS will say you owe $X. What business you make it under does not matter until you owe business-level taxes which doesn't happen until we have C4s. From a legal perspective, look at the LLC from a cost perspective. If they are even able to get their old LLC reactivated, there's probably a fee with that. If domestication is available in both states they will pay to domesticate into the new state and then dissolve it in the old state. Depending on how many fees are associated with the old state, it may be better to start fresh in the new state. Stay on top of your compliance. 2. If you have an S-Corp, and you're sued, what can they take from you? - submitted by Johanne M An S-Corp is a tax status so you either have an LLC or a corporation as an underlying entity. Unless they are able to pierce your corporate veil, they won't be able to go after your personal assets, only your corporate ones. You want to have your legal layers of protection in place. 3. Will general liability insurance cover a florist doing a workshop with beginners who injure themselves (cut themselves or slip and fall)? - submitted by Trish R We would expect this to be covered but you will want to ask your insurance provider because it comes down to what you got your insurance for. 4. If I already have insurance on my own LLC and want to start a partnership with someone, do I need separate insurance for that business as well? - submitted by Laurie H Yes. We never recommend general partnerships. Any time you're going into business with a partner, you want to form a new LLC with its own bank account, insurance policy, etc. Join the Braden's Bestie's Facebook group to have your questions answered on the podcast. Topic: Grieving a Toxic Relationship - The 6-Stages Dearest Divine Light, Welcome back to the Light Your Divine Path Podcast - Episode 6. This week we will be delving into the topic of Grieving a Toxic Relationship -What to Expect at Each Stage. Grieving a toxic relationship is not a pleasant experience, nor is the process of grieving the loss of a toxic relationship a linear one. I've mentioned before in a previous article entitled Letting Go of a Toxic Relationship – What You Need to Know that “letting go of a toxic relationship isn't an easy process and most definitely doesn't go through the ebbs and flow of a ‘normal' breakup from someone who is otherwise emotionally intelligent and stable.” When we grieve the loss of someone significant, such as an intimate partner, some individuals will experience 6-stages of grieving, and with time, we will eventually heal and gradually move on with our lives. But when you are healing your heart after experiencing emotional abuse moving through each stage must be handled with patience and compassion towards yourself. In today's episode I cover the following stages: 1. Shock and Embarrassment 2. Denial and Resistance 3. Bargaining and Compromising Your Values 4. Loneliness and Isolation 5. Eventual Acceptance 6. Healing and Transformation (obviously my favorite part of the process) -------------------- Right now, you probably feel as though you are on an emotional roller-coaster. Whether you are actively dating or leaving a toxic relationship, the truth is it's never a linear process. I dated a manipulative, covert narcissist and by the time I left that relationship, I was a shadow of the woman I used to be. To support you in this phase of your recovery and self-healing journey, I've created a FREE Emotional Detox Guide to help you begin the initial stages of emotionally detoxing from this relationship and your toxic ex-partner; which also includes a morning and evening meditation. The free guide can be downloaded via my website Download HERE: Emotional Detox Guide + Bonus Training! Enroll Today! No Contact, No Joke! 5-Part Audio Training Series! Chase DiMarco discusses the six stages of medical learning which you can use to assess your level of knowledge. He also details the best study techniques & methods corresponding to each stage. [00:23] Motivation for Knowing the Stages of Medical Learning [02:34] Stage 1: Basic Facts & Memorization [04:27] Stage 2: Integrative Basics [6:07] Stage 3: Integrative Flow [7:47] Stage 4: Integrative Clinical [12:07] Stage 5: Mixed Pathologies & Stage 6: Fellowship-Level Knowledge [12:51] Study Techniques to Use at Each Stage The first stage of medical learning is basic facts and memorization. This stage corresponds to pre-med or to the first few months of medical school. You memorize answers to questions such as ‘what muscle attaches to this bone?’or ‘what cancer marker is seen in pancreatic cancer?’ You do not have the knowledge to synthesize facts or to come up with a treatment plan. At this stage, tools like flashcards are key. The second stage is integrative basics. You learn the symptoms, signs and treatments for different diseases. This is also where you must memorize ‘illness scripts.’ For example, if a young child comes in tugging their ear and crying, they likely have an ear infection. Integrative basics correspond to the end of your second year of medical school, and are often useful in Step 1 board exams. Whilst flashcards are still useful, you also begin to use question banks (QBs) and develop an awareness of the techniques used by question writers. Next, integrative flow, which is often relevant for Step 2 board exams. This is where you comprehend the ‘order of operations’ when it comes to treating a patient. Going beyond illness scripts and basic diagnoses, you ask questions like ‘what is the next step of treatment?’ and ‘what diagnostic should I do to confirm my preliminary diagnosis?’ You should still use flashcards and QBs, but should also incorporate more flowcharts and visual tools like mind maps to understand this ‘order of operations.’ The fourth stage is integrative clinical which goes beyond Step 2 board exam materials, and into actual clinical experience. The materials that you study for the board exam often diverge from actual clinical experience, and this is where you delve deeper into treatment options and real patients. Chase does not focus on the fifth and sixth stages because these go into the realm of residency & fellowship experience. However, all of these stages cultivate your awareness of the constant progression of your knowledge. You should take the time to use rehearsal strategies and you should be wary of ‘recognition memory’ as opposed to true memory. The needs/wishes of others are relevant only to the extent that they support those of the person. The person and others inhabit two "separate worlds."* Stage 3: Adult/Socialized Self - The sense of self is socially determined, based on the real or imagined expectations of others.* Stage 4: Adult/Self-Authoring Self - The sense of self is determined by a set of values that they have authored for themselves (rarely achieved).* Stage 5: Adult/Self-Transforming Self - The sense of self is no longer bound to any aspect of themselves or their history, and they are free to allow themselves to focus on the flow of their lives. What are the Polarities in Each Stage?* The stages are a deep personal journey of exploration. Each stage marks a movement toward the opposite polarity, and the 2 polarities are:* Individual - It is true that we are separate human beings and autonomous.* Collective - At the same time, we are social, embedded, and whole entities that operate in a larger context.* Stage 1: Childhood - collective* Stage 2: Adolescence/Self Sovereign - individual* Stage 3: Adult/Socialized Self - collective* Stage 4: Adult/Self-Authoring Self - individual* Stage 5: Adult/Self-Transforming Self - collectiveHow does the Model of Leadership Relate to the 5 Stages?* Robert Anderson and William Adams wrote a book called Mastering Leadership. They describe how Robert Kegan's stages of development are integrated in their universal model of leadership. A very large component of a leader's effectiveness is the stage through which the leader is operating.* Adolescence/Self Sovereign - Egocentric* Adult/Socialized Self - Reactive* Nearly 75% of managers, 40% effective. Tend to be autocratic and controlling.* Unquestioned loyalty to the leader, not the organization, is the priority.* Most adults do not progress beyond this stage.* Adult/Self-Authoring Self - Creative* Only 20% of leaders, 65% effective. We begin to open up our life and leadership less on what we assumed was expected of us as we grew up and more out of our own deeper sense of personal purpose and vision.

“Love brings us as close to Source as we can be.” ~ Richard Moss Richard Moss has dedicated his life to loving Love with a Capital L. In this episode, receive the invitation to connect with the wildness of the soul, the part of you that wants to dance with love and “die into love.” Richard shares about experiencing life challenges as the deeper opportunity of our lives to love, the way towards intimacy, and planting a tree in fear. In this episode: Relationship as a way to accelerate loving Love, Why is this called the Embody Podcast? Embodiment as a beginning-less and endless journey, being obedient to nature, and thinner skin and more sensitivity in aging. Richard looks truth and present happenings in the face — he vulnerably shares how his financial challenge is accelerating his deepening, the reality that there are no guarantees of identity or security in life even if we borrow it from the past or future, that democracy is only as good as the people in it and being seduced, and the root of our hurting the planet, recycling, and social issues. Richard says, “we don't leave behind patriarchy without a profound change of identity” and “If you love love what else is there to do?” In 1977 Richard Moss was a practicing physician when he experienced a spontaneous state of illumination that irreversibly changed his life and profoundly transformed his understanding of human consciousness and behavior. With this opening came a new level of sensibility including a heightened intuition, subtle insight into mystical and spiritual teachings, and the ability to sense human body-energy fields. Impelled by this opening and its intensity which required virtually continuous self-examination, he took a sabbatical from his medical practice and began a period of withdrawal from his usual activities for nearly a year. During this time he spontaneously meditated for hours each day and read extensively in the spiritual and psychoanalytic literature, as well as poetry, and mythology. Above all, he made a careful observation of the new quality of energy moving in his body, and how his thoughts instantly generated emotions and sensations. “He who loves, loves love, and loving love forms a circle so complete, there is no end to love." Saint Bernard, quoted by Richard Moss in the February 2017 seminar in Hameaux de l'Etoile, France From this introspective period grew his understanding that the root cause of most unnecessary human suffering and conflict comes from two basic forms of ignorance: Unquestioned identification with thinking, especially our judgments and beliefs, and secondly, the general inability in most people to engage threatening feeling in an aware, vulnerable, and creative way. Richard's work is about catalyzing you to live as fully and creatively as you were born to live. His goal is that you don't just follow his or anyone's work, but that you learn to become your own teacher. Following this podcast, there will be a meditation provided by Richard, it's called “83a: Touch this Moment with Richard Moss” and can be found on the link below. I talk about organizing a lot on the podcast (it’s called Organize 365 after all!). I’ve covered everything from discovering your why to the Psychology of the Sunday Basket and how to know Which Workbox is Right for You? But surprisingly, I’ve never addressed what living an organized life actually feels like... until now! In this episode, I reveal what an organized life really looks like. No unrealistic expectations. No idealistic dreams. None of that. Just an honest look behind the curtain of an everyday, organized life. Setting Realistic Expectations I’ll be honest with you. There was a rather delusional time in my life when I pictured a perfectly organized life to mirror Martha Stewart’s. You know, with everything neatly packed into pretty containers, angelic children floating around the house, and waking up to an adorable puppy licking my nose as he waits for his morning walk. Like I said, delusional. Once I started to declutter and really focus on living a more organized life, my previous expectations were, for lack of a better phrase, shot to hell. I realized that you’re never going to have everything you want just perfect. You can drive yourself crazy trying, but it’s like trying to reach the end of the rainbow. It’s never going to happen. The sooner you get rid of unrealistic expectations and focus on the achievable, the sooner you can start living not only a more organized life, but a happier one, too. In the podcast I explore... How an Organized Life Looks Different in Each Stage of Life How an Organized Life is Being "Company Ready" How Living an Organized Life is Having More TIME So, what does an organized life feel like? An organized life feels like all your basic needs are met and all of the things in your house are done. And then the real work of stepping up to who you were uniquely created to be takes center stage. THAT is what I want to see. WHO were YOU uniquely created to be and give to this world? It sounds so Oprah like, but it is for YOU, too. It is my greatest fulfillment in life to have found the time to create a curated program for you to get your home organized to free up your time so I can see what your unique gift is to the world. Thanks for letting me be a part of your journey! PS - If you are stuck in your organizing and are not sure why, I'd love for you to join me in my masterclass this month: 3 Reasons You Can't Get Organized And What To Do About It.
