The scandal of grooming gangs targeting vulnerable girls in places like Rotherham and Oldham has dominated the news in 2025. But this week on the podcast Rob Parsons sheds a light on a sickening crime that's had a lot less publicity. Child sex abuse by family members is far more common than most people think. But in one part of the North of England, West Yorkshire, the region's mayor, a children's charity and even a leading broadcaster want to help victims talk about their experience to stop other people going through the same ordeal they've had to endure. On a visit to the Leeds headquarters of Channel 4, which just hosted a powerful discussion about the need protect children from sexual abusers, Rob speaks to Emily Victoria, a businesswoman who confronted the abuse she suffered at her father's hands for a TV documentary. And Debra Radford of the NSPCC charity and West Yorkshire deputy mayor Alison Lowe talk about the region is aiming to lead the way on keeping girls safe. This episode might make you think a little differently about the recent grooming gangs coverage, particularly whether the media focus on a certain type of offending might be putting off the victims of other types of abuse from reporting what's happened to them. On this episode, Lucian cites his research on Conversion Therapy and says "42 billion youth are homeless annually and 40% of those identify as LGBTQ+” highlighting a problem where many Americans do not support queer culture, and queer youth find it difficult to receive acceptance in their homes. Lucian and Andrew discuss the difficulties the Democratic party face in having to promote queer friendly laws while also warding off Republican hate speech. Who do you become when you believe that every family physically, psychologically, emotionally and sexually abuses their children? Who do you become when you're a 4, 5 and 6-year-old being threatened with murder if you're gay? Who do you become when you grow up in a white, US neighborhood, your ancestral roots are Amazonian and Euro-Latin American, but you're told that has nothing to do with who you are? Rai Maestro survived too many suicide attempts to count. He now shares his story of family tragedy in the hopes that others seek the help that may keep them alive. This interview has a trigger warning, due to graphic depictions of child abuse. Rai's story and perspectives are profound and important. They show the indomitable survival capacity of one human being, in partnership with God and competent mental health professionals. Bio Profession: I have been a bilingual event host, presenter, and MC, for over 20 years in the tri-state area. I perform at galas, award shows, fashion shows, beauty pageants, expos, conferences, etc. Abuse History: My parents abused me from a young baby to a teenager. They were in the closet, and my mother was an extreme homophobe. She hated my father and brother for being gay, and she made sure I would not become gay. I was an unwanted child, and my family hated me for being born. I was supposed to be an abortion, and they always wanted a girl. I lived in a violent home full of witchcraft where my parents had mental problems and were institutionalized. My father was an alcoholic and my mother enjoyed torturing me daily. I could never tell anyone anything because they brainwashed me into believing all families were the same. My mother threatened me daily, and they tried to kill me many times growing up. I also committed suicide many times as a child and as an adult. Recovery: I started therapy on and off in 2007, and in 2017, after a few suicides, I went into intense therapy. I have fully recovered since 2019 and I engage in public speaking seminars and conferences. My purpose is to help others and raise abuse awareness and prevention. I started going public in 2020 but was delayed because of covid. I wrote two books (not yet published). 1st book — Fighting Through the Darkness. 2nd book — OMG, My Mother Is a Witch. My book series — Let's Survive Together — will be a series of 12 books revolving around my life to help others recover. Guest Info. https://letssurvivetogether.com Julie's Info. He is author of the book "Once Upon a Kentucky Farm: Hope and Healing from Family Abuse, Alcoholism and Dysfunction." Connard is a trauma survivor, Vietnam veteran, and adult child of an alcoholic (ACA). In this episode Connard explains what ACA/ACoA is: Adult Child of Alcoholics, and some of the issues and challenges faced by individuals who grew up in chaotic alcoholic homes. We talk about the various faces of trauma and how it can be emotional as well as physical; how trauma can break our ability to form healthy connections/relationships and lead to maladaptive choices; how self-esteem and trauma are related; learned helplessness that trauma can cause...and TONS more.
A child of the ‘50s and ‘60s, Connard dropped out of engineering school in 1968, and as a result of the draft, served in the US Army, including a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam. Following an honorable military discharge, he received a BS in Sociology at Western Kentucky University and then an MA in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling from the University of San Francisco. As a licensed therapist, Connard worked twenty-five years in various settings treating alcoholics & addicts and those suffering major psychiatric disorders before he retired. He authored Once Upon a Kentucky Farm: Hope and Healing from Family Abuse, Alcoholism and Family Dysfunction, which was published March 2022.Follow Connard:FacebookLinkedInYouTubeWebsiteBuy his book, Once Upon A Kentucky Farm: Hope and Healing From Family AbuseWatch the interview on YouTubeSupport the show

Carol White, Doctor of Nursing Practice and abuse survivor, shares her mother's legacy of surviving her own abuse through publishing her mother's poetry.'My mother was a survivor of domestic violence who, after 23 years of marriage, was able to escape her husband. She filed charges against him and carried those through to trial. But writing poetry was her lifeline. While she was alive, my mother did not have the confidence or money to bring her work to publication outside of entering poetry contests, where she won nearly 200 awards in 15 states. Though my mother passed away in 2005, three years ago I started the process of bringing her work to publication. There are a total of 10 books set for release over the next couple years, starting with Stoic Resilience: Poems of Suffering and Freeing Oneself from Abuse.'Find more information on Carol's website White Publishing.———————————If you need resources or help in any way, call our 24 hour hotline at 800-828-2023 or visit www.DASASMI.org.Subscribe for a new episode each week. This episode is about breaking the toxic family cycle. Where does it originate from and how to break generational patterns. First, we must be conscious of unhealthy habits in your own life and in the lives of your family members. Internal contemplation and introspection — looking within yourself and paying attention to your emotions and behavior – are essential. Then, after you've SEEN the issue, you can FIX it. Zuzanna Kuhl, my guest, is an expert on the subject and shares her own struggles with her narcissistic mother. We dissect the various cultural norms and all of the techniques used by families to manipulate their own children. She joins us from Poland and discusses the possibility of recovery! *This Podcast is of the Top 30 Trauma podcasts on the web for Trauma 2021* https://linktr.ee/oncallempath *Disclaimer-This podcast's subject matter, which contains sensitive medical and mental health issues, is for entertainment purposes and does not constitute medical, legal, or any other type of professional advice. Volume 1 of Those People explores "Political People," In particular Democratic Candidates for Congress. In our 4th Episode Mitch sits down with Joshua Collins, a candidate for WA-10’s house seat, challenging long term incumbent Denny Heck from WAY left of the establishment democrat. Despite being our first “Cis Straight White Male” guest on the show we talk about his “Big Gay Truck Driving Socialist Agenda,” How to Negotiate with Republicans, and the Green New Deal. But as you know, we’re more about the people than the politics so we also talk step-family, child abuse, growing up in small town Kansas and overlap the personal and the political with a conversation about NAFTA’s impact in Joshua’s hometown. Sadly, Mr. Collins was limited on time so this episode doesn’t contain everybody’s favorite podcast segment, Random People, but don’t fear it’ll be back in next week’s bonus episode! In addition to being a #Political person, Joshua Collins self-identifies as one of Those #DemocraticSocialist, #FarLeft, #WorkingClass, #TruckDrivin, #Young #RasinBranLoving People. *** What a completely unpredictable show. I don't think anything went as planned today. Doesn't mean it wasn't good - it was! But it was also incredibly spontaneous. And it was very complex. Issues like parental alienation, a misused and misunderstood term, the corruption of the courts, the "we were just following orders" of law enforcement, the bought and paid for experts, our own writeyourlaws bill to counter all this, the VA and people allegedly in their care, the lawyer/client/judge conspiracies. Again, we need to take all of these topics separately and get a true understanding of all the issues of "Family Abuse Court." I was going to talk judicial decisions that regulate the border for Democrat voter registration efforts, but then Hotep called, and we came up with the "orange pickers report" and other reports most rich folks don't get, Hotep was about 10 minutes in. Shelby with "Travel Talk" was 30 minutes in, and Karen with "The Hoffman Report" came in 45 minutes in. This was just one of those shows I had very liitle knowledge of exactly where it would go. Family Abuse Four things are common: 1. Verbal 2. Physical 3. Mental 4. Emotional Prayer to God for Forgiveness of Sins Whether we are seeking forgiveness for our own sins or asking God to help us forgive others, prayer is the first place to start when seeking restoration and healing. Forgiveness and repentance go hand-in-hand in a Christian's life. We must learn to always forgive others and to ask for forgiveness ourselves. Without repentance, we are liable of judgment from God. If we withhold forgiveness to others, forgiveness will also be withheld from us. DOORWAYS OR GATES Demons can enter in a variety of ways. It may prove helpful to consider some of the specific “gates” or doors through which spirits may enter. Spirits often enter through the sensual gates. EYE GATES: Spirits of ography and murder. EAR GATE: Fear, and mystery radio shows. TOUCH GATE: Watch rubbing the genital arear. Children should be warned against allowing others to touch them inappropriately. MOUTH GATE: Drinking or eating to excess. Words such as, profanity, lust, or blasphemy. Mpse Gate” Inhaling glue and other intoxicating chemiicals, such as car engine cleaning products, medicines and other chemicals. MIND GATE: Unoccupied mind can invite wrongful thoughts. Thoughts of lust, fear may enter a mind. Avoid the state of “passive mind,” or for avoding such eastern religious practices as “emptying” or “blanking the mind.” Envites demons to take advantage of an ‘empty house. CLOSING THE GATES Parents must release blessings that are shown in the Bible, Deut. 28. Parents have the responsibility to protect their children from physical, mental, sexual and spiritual harm! Parents must allert and teach their children about Jesus! God wants you to blessed!
This radio show is for people who are suffering narcissistic abuse from a family member. Many people email me and ask me “What do I do if the narcissist is my family member?” They also write, “Melanie you deal with intimate partner narcissists but I need solutions for my mother / father/ brother / sister”. That is why I wanted to do this radio show specifically, because I realise there are many people in this community who may be suffering abuse – or the emotional agony of the aftermath of abuse from a family member.
