So many of us worry we're not doing enough when it comes to homeschooling—but what if simply choosing this path is already a powerful step in the right direction? In this encouraging conversation, I talk with Ginny Yurich of 1000 Hours Outside about her newest book and the deep confidence that can come from stepping outside the system. We explore how real learning often looks like play, boredom, creativity, and curiosity—how our kids naturally fill in the gaps over time, and how the freedom to pursue their own interests can lead to unexpected and incredible outcomes. If you've ever doubted your ability to homeschool well, this episode will remind you that you're doing more right than you think. In this episode, we cover: How Ginny accidentally started a global movement—and why it resonates so deeply with families The heart behind her new book Homeschooling: You're Doing It Right Just by Doing It What we miss when we follow the standard school model—and the surprising freedom of unlearning it The one message every anxious or burnt-out homeschool parent needs to hear What if the thing you're worried is a “deficit” is actually your child's biggest advantage? Why qualities like creativity and empathy will matter more than grades in the world our kids are growing up in What boredom, unstructured time, and “doing nothing” are actually teaching your child What's lost when childhood is spent only with same-age peers—and what kids gain from growing up alongside babies and toddlers Why your kids need to see you building, learning, trying—and even failing Everyone has educational gaps... so what really matters in the long run? When you trust the process, learning shows up in the most beautiful and unexpected ways The amazing story of how Ginny's daughter became a certified personal trainer at just 15 Why homeschooling doesn't have to look like anyone else's—and that's the point View full show notes on the blog + watch this episode on YouTube. You've heard that communication is essential for a healthy marriage, but it's also absolutely essential for a healthy family. In today's episode, I'm walking you through the six communication rules we use in the Brown family to help reduce misunderstandings, strengthen emotional connection, and stop wasting precious time and energy on hurt feelings.  These rules have helped us build trust, keep our hearts soft, and truly listen to one another, even when big feelings are involved. And these rules aren't just what I use with my kids as their mother. It's how my husband and I interact, too, which has created a vibrant and fun marriage that we both enjoy! But you know what my favorite part about using these rules as a family? Now that we've been practicing them as a family, the kids use these rules amongst themselves now, too! I'm super excited to share them with you today! Grab your earbuds and join me for: The Six Brown Family Rules of Communication. Join Happy, Holy Mama and get ready for Summer Lovin' HERE!

One thing we often neglect in our busy schedule is nurturing our walk with God. With everything we must complete, we feel that we just don't have the time to have a quiet time. However, Jesus tells us, "Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing." We all want more than anything to do a good job homeschooling, to bear much fruit in our children's lives. Yet, if we are not walking with the Lord, we cannot bear fruit, we can do nothing well. Colossians 1:29 says, "To this end I strenuously labor with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me." We need the energy Christ provides to succeed in any endeavor we undertake, especially homeschooling. In this podcast, Jeannie will share the simple format that Jesus taught us to strengthen our relationship with God. Even if you only have five minutes to spare each day, by employing the steps Jesus imparted, you will receive all the blessings and benefits of an intimate and dynamic relationship with God. About Jeannie Jeannie Fulbright, a 24-year veteran homeschooler, is the author of the #1 best-selling, multi award-winning Apologia Young Explorer science series: Exploring Creation with Astronomy, Chemistry and Physics, Botany, Zoology, and Anatomy & Physiology.
