Melissa Auf der Maur is an acclaimed musician, photographer, curator, and producer, best known as the former bassist of rock bands Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins. Her new memoir Even the Good Girls Will Cry covers those heady rockstar times of the 1990s, and is out now. She has also released two solo albums, Auf der Maur (2004) and Out of Our Minds (2010), the latter of which is part of a larger project that also includes a comic book and a short film. Melissa's photographs have been exhibited internationally, including at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and have appeared in such publications as Spin, Elle, Nylon, and American Photo. Artist, author, and director Michael Lindsay-Hogg helped create some of the most iconic moments in popular culture. Now based in Hudson, New York, Lindsay-Hogg's talent as a self-taught artist is being celebrated with a solo exhibition at Hudson Hall entitled "Talking Pictures." Melissa is revered locally as social entrepreneur, she's the co-founder and director of Basilica Hudson, a nonprofit multidisciplinary art center in Hudson, NY.  We consider Basilica to be a sister organization to Hawthorne Valley. Not only are we neighbors geographically, our missions are very much aligned when it comes to supporting the arts and addressing the important environmental and social issues of our times, and we are grateful that Melissa said yes to sitting down with us. Hers is an intriguing biography and it was a fun, and wide-ranging conversation as she and Martin touched on everything from Melissa's musical career, to the origin story of Basilica Hudson, to the impact of gentrification on the city of Hudson and its surrounding communities, to the role the city of Montreal played in her formative years. Tomorrow is Earth Day and Basilica Hudson is putting climate action at the forefront of its mission as it reopens this weekend for 2022. Founded in 2010 by musician Melissa Auf der Maur and filmmaker Tony Stone, Basilica Hudson is housed in a reclaimed, solar-powered 1880s industrial factory on the riverfront of Hudson, NY. In 2020, Basilica Hudson celebrated its 10-year anniversary with the expansion of BASILICA GREEN. Building on Basilica Hudson's long-standing commitment to environmental advocacy and the City of Hudson's waterfront. On April 24th, BASILICA GREEN programming will activate multiple spaces on campus inviting the community to celebrate Earth Day Weekend. Free activities will include a teach-in on greening the grid, environmentally-focused art and youth activities, a workshop on how individuals can divest from fossil fuels, food, live music and more. Melissa Auf der Maur joins us now to tell us more about this weekend's Earth Day events – and other upcoming events at Basilica Hudson.

Jordon Zadorozny is a Canadian rock musician and producer. He is the singer and songwriter for indie rock band Blinker the Star. He is best known for cowriting songs with Courtney Love in the late 1990s. Zadorozny has also appeared on recordings by Melissa Auf der Maur, Sam Roberts, Tara Slone and Mandy Moore.
