In Black Mirror Season 7 Episode 4, titled "Plaything," we delve into a mind-bending narrative that blurs the lines between reality and digital consciousness. The episode follows Cameron Walker, portrayed by Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who, The Thick of It), a former video game journalist whose obsession with a 1990s life simulation game called "Thronglets" leads him down a dark path. As he becomes increasingly entwined with the digital creatures, Cameron's reality begins to unravel, culminating in a chilling climax that questions the very nature of humanity and technology. The episode also features Lewis Gribben (Somewhere Boy) as the younger Cameron, James Nelson-Joyce (The Outlaws) as DCI Kano, Michele Austin (This Is Going to Hurt) as Jen Minter, Will Poulter (Bandersnatch, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) reprising his role as Colin Ritman, and Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing) as Mohan Thakur. Directed by David Slade (Hard Candy, Hannibal) and written by series creator Charlie Brooker, "Plaything" is a haunting exploration of digital lifeforms, AI ethics, and the consequences of human obsession. What happens when too much emotion is poured into an inanimate object. Where does all that energy go? There are many stories of dols becoming something other than a toy.

Disorder
Ep30. Is there Order in the universe? Or are we all the playthings of chance?

Disorder

Can we ever truly achieve Order in the international system? Or is life itself just a deterministic jumble of uncontrollable events? Do humans crave order so much that they perceive it even when it is absent – leading to conspiracy theories? And should policymakers avoid optimization and prediction and embrace experimentation, resilience, and slack to fix the problems of our era of Global Enduring Disorder?    This week we celebrate the six-month anniversary of Disorder, by talking with a guest from our very first episode, the man who inspired this podcast, Brian Klaas. Brian's page-turning new book ‘Fluke: Chance, Chaos, and Why Everything We Do Matters', is not only a dynamic read, it has much to say about whether our lives, our politics, and our relationships can ever be truly ordered. In the conversation, Brian and Jason agree disagreeably about the following issues: do most people believe that good things happen to good people, that one's lot in life is somehow earned, and that ‘things happen for a reason'? Can some disorder be good in our personal lives? Is Order a spiritual rather than a rational virtue?     Twitter: @DisorderShow    Subscribe to our Substack: https://natoandtheged.substack.com/     Website: https://natoandtheglobalenduringdisorder.com/     Producer: George McDonagh  Exec Producer: Neil Fearn    Show Notes Links    Pick up Fluke by visiting - https://brianpklaas.com/fluke     For more of Brian's writing visit - https://www.forkingpaths.co/      Listen to a great audio overview of the book here Learn more about your ad choices. Among the BBC's leading journalists, Jonny Dymond recently came to the Philippines for one of the British broadcaster's flagship programs, World Questions, and spoke to Howie Severino about what makes the Philippines interesting to outsiders. He also talks about his coverage of the British royal family (“a surprisingly hard job”) and Russian President Putin (“His mission is about Russia, not communism”). Dymond explains how the BBC has been able to stand up to the British government despite being funded by taxpayers. In the face of various threats to journalists around the world, he urges media colleagues to keep believing in their mission. “If you don't have people who are prepared to call out the government, who are prepared to report on the government's successes and failures, then it's impossible to say that you really have a functioning democracy,” Dymond asserts. “It's easy to be cynical, but coming to the Philippines where I know journalists have been under so much pressure, it kind of straightens my back. It makes me believe again in what we do.” BBC's World Questions in Manila moderated by Jonny Dymond airs in the Philippines on BBC Radio on March 9 at 8 P.M. The panelists on the show: Atty. Antonio Carpio – Former associate justice of the Supreme Court Dr. Roberto Galang, Dean of the Ateneo de Manila University Gokongwei School of Management Ms. Rafaela David – President of the Akbayan Citizens' Action Party Professor Richard Heydarian – Columnist and senior lecturer at the University of the Philippines LINK: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0380g6d CREDITS: Producer: Aubrey Delos Reyes Researcher: Lilian Tiburcio Editor: Jayr Magtoto

This is Episode 100! Woohooo! It's just us this week and Mike started out with his reading. It was about this new life we have versus the old life that we thankfully left behind. We have the gift of choice and the ability to live an authentic life these days. Then we talked about a new job and the stress of the job search. It all works out and in it's own time. We looked back briefly at some of our episodes and mainly just talked about the fact that we are still here, doing this thing every week and that in itself is pretty cool. Then on to substance abuse disorder, remembering a sponsor, idle hands and of course some nonsense. So this is what you get with a 100th episode. Same stuff, but we are not done yet. Enjoy the episode. Visit us Podcast  www.sobernotmature.com Store  www.sobernotmatureshop.com
