Do you feel overwhelmed by social media if you do you're not alone but I've got some good news for you because there are things you can do to manage the chaos and make the time you're spending on social media productive. Our guest, Andrea Jones explains one of the challenges with social media is that it's a mixture of our business and our personal life.  She suggests dividing platforms by purpose—some for personal use and others strictly for business. This helps manage focus and reduce distractions.  She has some other great suggestions in this lively conversation Time Blocking: Instead of stressing over posting frequently, spend a set amount of time each day engaging with your community and creating content. Content Strategy: Balance your posts between connection and conversion. Andrea recommends the 80/20 rule—80% of content should aim to connect with the audience, and 20% should focus on conversion. Reflect Business Activity: Use real business interactions and questions as the foundation of your content, keeping your updates relevant and engaging Define Social Media Goals: Understand what you want to achieve with social media, whether it's building authority or driving sales. This clarity can help turn social media from a chore into a valuable tool. For more insights, check out Andrea's podcast, the Savvy Social Podcast, and her website, http://onlinedrea.com. OVERVIEW: Jason A. Duprat, Entrepreneur, Healthcare Practitioner, and Host of the Healthcare Entrepreneur Academy podcast talks with Andréa Jones, creator of the Savvy Social School and Host of the Savvy Social Podcast. She shares tips for business owners on how to best utilize social media and content, including how much time to dedicate to both. She also dives into her strategies for building brand awareness and engagement.  EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Andréa learned about entrepreneurship from her parents.  She launched her first blog in 2004 and started a YouTube channel in 2007. After graduating with a degree in English Literature in 2012, she managed Marriott Hotel's social media platforms while working in hospitality. Andréa talks about her transition from freelancer to business owner and the challenges she overcame. She started her business in March of 2014 because she wanted remote flexibility, as well as more time and freedom. She started out writing product descriptions and Facebook posts for a client. She built out her package offer and started pitching her social media services and soon had recurring business.  Her course was launched in 2017 and she transitioned the course to a membership model in 2018.   Early on, her course focused on training how to do Facebook posts, write content, and increase conversion rates. Now, her training is focused on developing leadership skills and increasing business profit.  Andréa recommends spending one hour per week for social media posting and 30 minutes per day for engagement. Don't get lost in the scroll! Focus on providing value, showing up, and building thought authority.  Jason and Andréa discuss the pros and cons of joining a Facebook Group. One of the greatest pros is fostering community through sharing versus posting.  Social media content that makes people feel seen and not alone is not only popular, but it's also effective because it resonates with users.  Constantly check your metrics and adjust your strategy when necessary. It takes seven to 12 touchpoints to convert a prospect into a customer.   3 KEY POINTS: Andréa first used social media as an outlet and a way to reach out to other people who liked the same things she did, and then she fell in love with the content creation aspect. As a business owner, you should be conscious of how much time you spend on social media and creating content. Focus on your products, services, and networking. Teaching others is a way to constantly build yourself and scale your business. The three types of content you should utilize on your social media platforms include relating to users, educating users, and providing prospects with an offer.   TWEETABLE QUOTES: “The most powerful way to grow your social media platform is for people to share your content. This is virality and it's a winning strategy.” - Andréa Jones “Social media never sleeps!” - Andréa Jones “Compare yourself to yourself.” - Andréa Jones RESOURCES: OnlineDrea: https://onlinedrea.com/ Savvy Social School: https://savvysocialschool.com/ Savvy Social Podcast: https://onlinedrea.com/podcast/ Check out Andréa's free mini-course: https://onlinedrea.com/free Social Media Unwind: https://socialmediaunwind.com/ Have a healthcare business question? Are you ready to make an impact? Andréa Jones helps coaches, consultants, thought leaders, and passion-led online business owners impact and empower more people through strategic social media marketing strategies. First, we talk about how to fight the overwhelm of social media. Then, we dive into the importance of starting small and staying consistent. Tune in as Andréa gives loads of social media tips, including the ABCs of writing captions. Meet Andréa Jones Andréa Jones is fiercely committed to empowering businesses to utilize the power of social media in a positive and impactful way, without being overwhelmed and drained by it. With over 7 years of experience in the game, Andréa hosts the acclaimed podcast Savvy Social Podcast, leads a team providing done-for-you service inside of her marketing agency that was named a Top Digital Marketing Agency in 2021, and serves over 200 students in her membership Savvy Social School. You can find her online at onlinedrea.com or @onlinedrea on Instagram. Fighting The Overwhelm of Social Media Feeling overwhelmed by social media is natural; social media can feel like another language sometimes. To fight the overwhelm, choose a platform that you are most comfortable with to get started. If you already have a personal Facebook account, then it can be easy to create a Facebook account for your private practice. Next, think about how you should spend time on these platforms. Andréa says you should focus on a time limit for social media. There's so much that goes into posts, and it may add to that overwhelming feeling when you spend too much time on one. So when you sit down to write those posts, try to spend one hour a week working on your social media content. Sometimes in that one hour, you may only put together one caption and snap a photo of your location, and that's okay. Throughout the week, check your account for ten minutes each day. Checking daily really helps build the muscle and the skills needed to do social media. Start Small With Social Media When we look at social media, sometimes we're looking at a team of people working on their social media accounts. People who are in private practice still hire a group of people to help them with their work. Even though you see a selfie, you see a video; sometimes, there's a team of people behind that. When you compare yourself to other people on social media, you're not giving yourself a fair chance. Overall, you will want to start small when it comes to your social media. Over time, you can add more people to help you out with your posts and your content. The Importance of Consistency First, start with one social media platform. Instead of having consistent posts, be consistent with the time that you spend on social media. You will get better at it naturally; just like anything, you will get better the more you practice. Focus on one platform and get consistent. Before you dive into social media, Andréa has an exercise that you can do. On one side of a piece of paper, write the word "before." On the other side, write the word "after." Now, think about your clients. What do they feel before working with you, and what do they feel after working with you. Write down all of these feelings. Later, these feelings can all be turned into social media posts. The ABCs of Writing A Caption Your captions on social media should follow the ABC rule. A: Grabbing attention in some way. Why would someone stop at your post when they are scrolling through social media? B: Benefit statement. Tell your followers why you want to help them and how you are going to do that. Focus on the feelings of your potential clients. C: Call to action. This is the part where we're extending our hands out; we're inviting them to take that next step with us. "I like using Instagram as a content consumer, but I have no idea how to use it to promote my podcast!" If you've said these words (today or in the past), you're in for a real treat with today's guest.Today's podcast is a conversation with my new friend, host of the Savvy Social Podcast, and Social Media Expert - Andréa Jones. We recently met while sharing the stage on a panel at Podcast Movement University and I knew we needed Andréa's social media knowledge on this podcast. In our conversation, we talked about where podcasters get stuck in their social media posting, why understanding whether a platform is meant for "social" vs. "search" is important, and how you can make talking about your podcast across social platforms a lot easier. Plus, we get into the fine line of what to share on social and where to draw healthy boundaries for yourself. It's definitely a conversation that you'll walk away from feeling more equipped to tackle Instagram - and maybe even try some reels! Launch YOUR Podcast in 30 days! Social media celebrity is not a requisite for success—no matter how many attractive business influencers give you the impression that it is. But you don’t have to take my word for it. This week, I’m talking with Andréa Jones, the founder of OnlineDrea, a social media marketing agency, and the creator of Savvy Social School, a training community all about social media marketing. After all I just shared about building an audience, this might seem like a strange segue. Why talk to a social media marketing expert when it seems like you might not have to do this whole social media thing the way you have been? Well, it’s because Andréa understands that finding customers is different from building an audience. She understands it because she helps people do both while also being acutely aware that the growth of her agency isn’t driven by building an audience. This conversation gets into the relationship between building an audience and finding clients—both as they relate to Andréa's business and as they relate to her clients’ and members’ businesses. I love this conversation because there's a bunch about what Andréa actually does with social media in her own business, there's a bunch of insightful observation about what's happening out there in the marketing world, and there are some really actionable ideas you can use, too. Andréa and I are both on a mission to bust some of the assumptions that people have about what's good for business when it comes to social media marketing. For me, it's a small part of what I do. But for Andréa, this is her whole business. Andréa runs a thriving social media marketing agency called OnlineDrea as well as a training community for small business owners called Savvy Social School. I've featured Andréa here on the pod before and we talked about how she approaches social media pretty differently when it comes to her own business versus how she manages social media for her clients with very different business models. Good news: next week's episode is a follow up to that conversation. I respect the heck out of the way Andréa approaches social media and the way she trains other small business owners to manage their own marketing. And so when she asked if she could interview me about the unconventional approach I've taken to social media this year, I was honored. What follows is that conversation. If you like this conversation, you're going to love Andréa's podcast, the Savvy Social Podcast—so check that out wherever you listen to What Works. And tell her I sent you, okay? I asked Andréa if I could rebroadcast this conversation here at What Works because I think it gives a glimpse into how simplifying can help you focus on quality over quantity. So without further ado, let's get into. Listen up for the most concise explanation I've ever given for the philosophy behind What Works, why I'm focused on remarkable content this year, and how that focus has simplified the way I produce content for social media. I also talk about how I view my primary job at What Works as a content creator—which is a job I love but isn't right for everyone. Today's episode of the podcast is an interview with the lovely Andréa Jones who helps businesses and podcasts build profitable online communities through simple social media solutions. Andréa is also the host of Savvy Social Podcast. We talk all about social media in general – including all the different platforms, what we should focus our energy on and how we can overcome overwhelm.   KEY TAKEAWAYS COVERED IN THE PODCASTBe on the platform(s) you enjoy, then it will feel easier. The top two platforms – Instagram and LinkedIn. There is a lot of opportunity on Instagram and part of the culture is to engage with others on it. LinkedIn is great for B2B for connecting with your target audience and it's less used so there is no expectation of creating as much content. Twitter works well for activism, powerful messages, and conversation-based brands. If you produce a lot of video content, YouTube is a good platform to be on. TikTok is great for people to discover your video content and you can repurpose your content. Clubhouse is good for dynamic conversations but it can be a bit hit or miss. Don't look at the new social media platforms until you are established on the main platforms. Facebook can be hard to use if you don't have a paid ad budget. Facebook groups can be really good for interacting with others. You can have a presence without having to interact too much on some of the platforms. You do not have to be on every platform – just pick your favourite! We can't focus our engagement on every platform – there is not enough time in the day! Content creator – your job is to create content and that is how you make your money. Business owner – your job is not to create content but you have to promote yourself on social media via content. Focus on the quality of the content you are producing as opposed to the frequency. Pick a time limit each week to create content for your chosen platform(s) and commit to it – see how much content you can create in that time. We can only do as much as we can at certain points in our business – we can't compare what we do on social media to other experts. When you first start your business, it is HARD to be consistent on social media. Put on your blinders and focus on where you are right now – only improve yourself. We are all on our own timeline. The amount you can do depends on where you are in your business, team size, and income. Overwhelm comes from a lack of clarity around how social media actually helps our business. We don't actually know the difference that being on social media is going to make to our business! Always make sure you are engaging intentionally – assign yourself tasks. Engagement idea – go to someone in your niche who is more established, go to their latest post and see who is liking and commenting on that post for you to then engage with. Reels are great for potential discoverability – Instagram are pushing them out a lot more. Reels are not as user-friendly as TikTok. The Instagram algorithm reduces the reach if you upload a video straight from TikTok but if it is a great video, it will still do well. The TikTok algorithm is one of the best as it learns your preferences, likes and what you want to see, then serves you that content! The potential for discoverability is a lot higher as you are shown content from people you don't necessarily follow. Video is a really powerful way to connect with people on social media. THE ONE THING YOU NEED TO REMEMBER ABOVE ALL ELSE…  We can't be active and engage on every single platform, every single day. We have to do what is realistic for us and where our business is right now.  HIGHLIGHTS YOU SIMPLY CAN'T MISS  An introduction to Andréa 05:37 Social media platforms today 11:15 New social media platforms 13:40 Is Facebook effective anymore? 15:10 Can we use the same content on each platform? 17:28 How often should I post? 23:20 Social media at different stages of your...

Confession: Lately, I’ve been feeling BUSY.   Not exactly on-brand, right? After all, I’ve built my business on the platform of working LESS -- 20 hours per week or less, to be exact.   Now, don’t get me wrong… I’m still on that track. Not that I can really take credit for that; between 4 kids, homeschooling, housekeeping, a little (tiny) bit of exercise, and just trying to keep everyone fed… I never have more than about 4 hours a day to work.   But that doesn’t stop me from writing a longer to-do list. And then having an anxiety attack because I’m feeling overwhelmed and behind.   #yesimhumantoo   I’ve been taking steps to improve this situation -- starting with just getting real with myself about how much time I actually have available to work each day, and ruthlessly chopping down my to-do list to fit.   But with a marketing-centric, digital content business like I run, there’s only so much I can delegate, outsource, and automate. At the end of the day, it’s my face on everything and I have to show up to talk to the camera, record the courses, and write the words.   So, when Andréa Jones was suggested as a potential guest on the show, I jumped at the chance to talk to her!   Andréa is a social media strategist who specializes in how to get results with less effort – girl after my own heart! – and the host of the Savvy Social Podcast.   I invited her onto the show because, not only is she an expert at using social media strategies to grow online business and impact the world, but she does so with a focus on simple strategies that give the biggest results with the least effort   She has some really counter-intuitive strategies… including posting LESS for more impact.   Listen to the full episode to hear: What's the first thing an online business owner should consider when it comes to creating a simple, yet effective social media strategy The best tips for creating a social media strategy that gets the biggest "bang for your buck" Some common roadblocks to creating share-worthy social media content And what to do if you truly don't enjoy creating content for social media (but you know you need to in order to grow your business).   Learn more about Andréa Jones: OnlineDrea Savvy Social Podcast Instagram @onlinedrea Facebook @onlinedrea Twitter @onlinedrea   Learn more about Gillian: Join Startup Society (promo code: earnmore) Profit Planning Challenge Get in touch!

Andrea’s signature service at OnlineDrea is done-for-you social media which involves everything from designing images, writing captions, posting, and responding to messages and comments. She also hosts her own podcast, The Savvy Social Podcast.  After starting as a low-budget freelancer in 2014, Andrea hustled her way to building a sustainable client base and building a reliable team. Andrea has had to figure a lot of things out along the way which makes this episode truly fascinating to any aspiring entrepreneur...   Key Highlights of the Episode This episode was extremely actionable and insightful. Here are a few key highlights: Hustling for clients - In the early days, Andrea learned by hustling on freelancer sites and pitching for jobs to get clients. Sales is a contact sport and you have to be willing to go out there and put in the work to get clients. Retain and maintain - To improve and maintain consistent cash flow, Andrea started doing more reporting to add value to her service. This ensured clients would stay with her and she didn’t have to keep going out to get more clients. She also started raising her prices. Added brainpower - Once she reached full capacity, Andrea decided she needed a team. This not only enabled her to delegate a lot of day-to-day tasks but she also found that having more brains working together added a whole new level to the capabilities of the business. Hardships of hiring - When it comes to hiring, Andrea has learned two lessons… the hard way! After getting lucky with her first hire, she assumed everyone would have a high work ethic and be super-accountable which was a mistake. Secondly, after hiring top talent, she hadn’t yet put business procedures in place to help team members thrive. As a result, her cash flow was hit hard. Refusing the agency route - Andrea wants to be 100% responsible for the strategy and the results that the strategy gets for her clients. This goes against what a typical agency business model looks like. She’s set up a hybrid model to maintain a high quality of client work, running her business in a way that suits her. And lots more! Social media is more like a telephone than a television.” - Amy Jo Martin Ever wondered how you can become a master at social media, posting content that your audience values? This episode of The Entrepreneurial You podcast will get you well on your way. Here is a snippet of what Andréa shared: “The algorithm wants attention. It's like a small child like a two-year-old. Look at me, look at me. It wants attention. So whatever we can do to give it attention is a good thing. I think sometimes as business owners, we forget that. So if our content isn't interesting enough, and people aren't paying attention to it, the algorithm is going to start showing other content pieces. So it's not like it has a personal vendetta against you personally. It's just that it's trying to get attention as much attention as possible from its viewers. So some things that work really well right now.” Listen to the episode and let us know what is your biggest takeaway. In this episode, Teri was interviewed on The Savvy Social Podcast by the host, Andrea Jones. The podcast is all about social media and social media marketing in particular, and Teri had the opportunity to join the host to talk about flash briefings and voice technology; and how they can be used for marketing.Enjoy!Voice TechnologyThis is the future of computing, social marketing and everything related to technology. Before voice technology, computer technology required users to use some kind of hardware device to be able to communicate with the technology. This technology is friction-less, seamless and convenient. Computers are adapting to the way that we naturally communicate.Amazon just launched a dozen new products and announced that they will be putting their Alexa voice technology into everything from microwaves, clocks, and other gadgets. All the major companies are seeing this as the future of technology. It’s much more efficient when you look at the number of words that people can type per minute verses the number of words that a person can speak per minute. The adoption of smart speakers has been quicker than the adoption of mobile phones ever was.Ongoing DevelopmentsThe technology may not replace things like text, type and swipe 100%. We are moving into a world that will be “voice first” not “voice only”There is a lot of work geared towards ensuring the technology incorporates the different languages and accents. Google and Amazon create complete language models.Voice technology developers are focused on ensuring that the language models in voice assistants can fit in to different locations.Amazon and GoogleThey are the major players in voice technology. They are battling it out. Amazon does not sell Google products and Google restricted Amazon from showing YouTube videos on their Alexa show devices.Google has the search engine type of structure behind it which is great for looking up information. Voice technology will change the way people do searches. The single top search result is going to be worth so much more in voice because that’s what a user will be given when they do a search.Google has been trying to optimize things for voice search.Amazon is consumer oriented and they are going after the smart home space. They have developed strong partnerships with Microsoft and they are also looking into other ways to search.Amazon is putting a large chunk of resources into their voice technology. They are hiring more people to work on Alexa than Google is in their entire organization in terms of job offerings. The Marketability of Voice First Technology and Flash BriefingsVoice technology is the beginning of a brand new era of computing. Now is the time for people that are looking for opportunities to get in on early marketing on a new platform.Marketing through a flash briefing: This is prime real estate of voice.People can subscribe to flash briefings through Amazon and Google has their own version of that called News Briefs.A flash briefing is a way to get to the ears of listeners when one is promoting something. Just like a podcast or blog.Creating a Flash BriefingDecide on your topic. Figure out where you’re going to serve your audience the best. Make sure that there is enough content on that topic to be able to do the flash briefing on a daily basis. Consistency is very important. Nobody will want to subscribe to a flash briefing that is there one day and gone the next day.Try recording an episode and see if you like it.Decide where you’re going to host your audio files similar to a podcast.Register as an Amazon developer.Create a skill. A skill is to Alexa what an app is to the mobile phone.Once you’ve uploaded your audio files to your host, take the RSS feed and copy paste into the skill console where you’ve set up the skill on Amazon.Beta test it and submit it to Amazon for review.Length of Flash BriefingsThey can be up to 10 minutes or longer, but the lesser the minutes the better. Teri's flash briefing only goes up to 2 minutes.Final ThoughtsRight now there is a huge white space in the voice technology. When creating a flash briefing, it’s good to have some kind of audio branding. Today I’m chatting with Meg all about Facebook ads. You’ll want to take notes because every part of this interview is powerful.  Listen in as we talk about how to get started with Facebook ads, when boost a post, the power of video view ads, and so much more. Quotes The best way to ensure that you’re going to spend more money on the platform is for you to get what you want out of your ads. - Meg I encourage everybody to take the Facebook blueprint courses… that will give you the basic introduction to what you need to know about Facebook ads. - Meg If you have a website, get that pixel on your website. If if you’re not planning on running ads right now… get the pixel on there now because it retains data for up to 6 months. - Meg Q4 is going to be the most expensive time to advertise on Facebook. - Meg Map out your funnel! What’s the process that your ideal clients are going to take to get from where they are now to where they are a client. What types of ads are going to support you as they go through the funnel. - Meg Video view ads currently generate the largest audiences at the lowest cost. You can get a video viewer for 1 - 3 cents per person into that audience. It’s a really inexpensive way to build an audience of people who are familiar with you. - Meg Having the Pixel installed allows you to track the customer journey and you can see where people are falling off. - Meg [Boosting Posts] is like the candy bar at the checkout aisle at the grocery store. You don’t need it… but here it is… 2 for a dollar! - Meg Boosting posts is great if it’s part of your strategy. - Meg Don’t just “boost” a post because Facebook is telling you that post is out performing 80% of the posts on your page. It’s not a good reason unless you have a strategy for what you’re going to do with that after the fact. - Meg We really have to approach Facebook marketing and social media marketing the same way we’d approach any type of social interaction… it’s about keeping the social aspect in social media. - Meg Links Facebook IQ: https://www.facebook.com/iq/ Facebook Newsroom: https://newsroom.fb.com/ Facebook Media: https://www.facebook.com/facebookmedia/ Facebook Blueprint: https://www.facebookblueprint.com/ Connect with Meg Website: https://www.megbrunson.com/ Business: https://eieiomarketing.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheMegBrunson/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/themegbrunson/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/megbrunson/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/themegbrunson Connect with Andréa Free Facebook Group: http://savvysocialcrew.com Instagram: http://instagram.com/onlinedrea Twitter: http://twitter.com/onlinedrea Find more episodes of the Savvy Social Podcast on the website: http://savvysocialpodcast.com Music by Alexey Anisimov
