On this episode of Next on the Tee, I am joined by one of the all-time great Authors and Golf TV Broadcast Producers Keith Hirshland, PGA Tour Legend Hal Sutton, Host of Grilling at the Green & BBQ aficionado Jeff Tracy, and top Sports Psychologist Dr. Bob Winters. Keith Hirshland is my all-time favorite author and one of the great people you get to meet in this life. He's written 6 wonderful books including "Song Girl, A Mystery in 2 Verses" (watch out for the CT Mascaro character), "Cover Me Boys I'm Going In, Tales of the Tube from a Broadcast Brat (my all-time favorite book), and his latest is the second installment in the Murphy Murphy series this one is titled, The Case of the Commission on Cliches. You can get all of them out on Amazon or www.keithhirshland.com. Keith and I talk about what mischief Murphy gets into this time around. It's going to be such a fun read. Keith is also the Producer of the LIV Golf broadcasts. We hear his thoughts on Season 2 of LIV golf, if he thinks there will be a Season 3 plus some of the cool new drone technology they're looking to use if/when Season 3 comes around. Hal Sutton has become a dear friend and someone I am so thankful for. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his new course design called Darmor Club located just outside of Houston. It's an old-school Scottish design using templates from C.B MacDonald and Seth Raynor. He has created a course that we can all enjoy. It is certainly on my bucket list to play. In addition to hear about Darmor Club, I also get Hal's thoughts on the Ryder Cup and if NIL deals are about to infiltrate the world of golf. Hal also shares his disappointment about how playing on Tour used to be about the privilege of playing the PGA Tour and playing for the charities each week. It was them first and you second or third. Now it's about self. You can stay up-to-date with Hal by going online to www.halsuttongolf.com or following @halsuttongolf on social media. We also learn techniques for how to calm ourselves down after a bad shot and the importance of self-belief. Plus we hear about Dr. Bob's sports vision research that can lead to improved putting. In this episode, Women on the Move Podcast Host Sam Saperstein sits down with Dr. Wendy Borlabi, Director of Mental Performance and Health for the Chicago Bulls. Wendy discusses the personal philosophy and authenticity she draws on to support athletes, young women, and even herself to help optimize performance and become mentally tough. The pair also discuss Wendy's commitment to bringing other women along in the sports psychology field, and how she strives to be a role model in success and failure for both her own kids. Commitment to authenticity Wendy followed her own authenticity to her current role with the Bulls. After earning her undergrad degree in psychology, she worked as a psychologist for several years in Oklahoma, helping support adults with depression and schizophrenia. Being an athlete herself (she had once aspired to play in the WNBA) and remembering a conference on sports psychology that she had attended earlier with a friend, she started thinking about moving into that area. She soon started the master's program in sports psychology at Georgia Southern, and describes a pivotal moment in her life: her advisor warned her that the sports psychology field was full of men who may not be welcoming to a woman of color. “He wanted to prepare me that this was not gonna be an easy thing,” she tells Sam. At first, she says, she was upset by his message, but she soon had a realization: “I needed to be me authentically. I couldn't change who I was in order to get a position.” Since then, she says, being true to herself has served her well. “I just remember my first year so much,” she recalls to Sam. “I just got to see when I was myself, my goofy regular self, they gravitated to me. And when I tried to be somebody else, it didn't work again. I don't know if I would've thought of that if he wouldn't have said that to me.” Commitment to other women In her role with the Bulls, Wendy works with players, coaches, trainers, and “anybody in basketball operations” to help them perform better mentally. “If you think about a strength and conditioning coach or a nutritionist or a physical therapist, they get you back in different pieces of your body to help you perform,” she describes. “And what I do is on the brain, to help you be able to tackle some of those things that can possibly prevent you from performing your best at your job.” But, she says, there aren't a lot of women in the sports psychology field and it can be a difficult space for women to maneuver in. She hopes to see a big increase in the number of women across the entire male-dominated sports industry: bringing other women along, who in turn inspire more women is a personal goal. To that end, Wendy founded a nonprofit called Wisdom Knot, which is dedicated to educating disadvantaged youth about careers in sports other than being an athlete. The more women that girls see doing these jobs, the more girls will be inspired, she says. But she also notes it's just as important that men in the field are welcoming to women and make active statements like “A woman could do this job.” In addition to the nonprofit, Wendy also founded Borlobi Consulting, focused specifically on women in sports psychology. Recognizing that there aren't a lot of avenues into the field of sports psychology, she wanted to spread the word and provide more opportunities for women. She hires interns who get experience working with an NBA team or another institution, but also learn directly from Wendy about being a sports psychologist. The foundation also provides a platform for Wendy to do podcasts, presentations, and other outreach. Wendy has a message for listeners working toward their own goals, which comes from a John Gordon Book called How to Be a Coffee Bean. “It talks about the fact that if you take hot water and you put an egg in it, that the egg becomes hard and you don't want to be a hard person to work with or deal with. If you put a carrot in the hot water, it becomes mushy and you don't want to be that person either. However, if you put a coffee bean in the hot water, what happens? They come together, they work together, they develop something magical: coffee. So I want you to be a coffee bean. I want you to come together with the things in your life and develop something magical. And that can be anything in your corner of the world.” Disclaimer: The speakers' opinions belong to them and may differ from opinions of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co and its affiliates. When the lights are on and the ball is in play, we tend to forget that athletes are human too. They have families, friends, bills, obligations, and commitments like everyone else. And their jobs are really, really stressful. Failure can lead to the scorn of fans in the arena and on social media. Pundits can be unusually cruel. Coaches and General Managers can be fickle when players underperform and losses mount. To deal with these pressures, collegiate and professional athletes often turn to a sports psychologist to help them overcome their doubts, regain their confidence, curiosity and purpose, and strive toward performing at their potential. One of those sports psychologists is Dr. Rick Aberman. He is a pioneer in the field and has been working with elite athletes and corporate executives for 30 years. In this discussion, Dr. Aberman talks about how business leaders and sports coaches can more effectively assess talent, help team members move past failure, manage emotions, build healthy work cultures, and help their people live full, well-rounded lives. One of his most powerful tools is simply asking the people he works with “how good do you want to be?” After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Aberman became one of the first psychologists in the country to be hired as a member of a sports medicine staff. He initiated a program designed to specifically meet the needs of high performing competitive student-athletes, coaches, and administrators at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Aberman served as the Director of Peak Performance on the medical staff of the Minnesota Twins. In addition, he continues to be a long-standing advisor to athletic teams and coaches at the University of Minnesota. He utilizes the latest thinking in psychology, motivation, neuroscience, and peak performance.

As this year of uncertainty continues I have heard from dancers and practitioners alike about their struggles and frustrations with our current situation and how it is impacting their mental health. On This week's episode of The Dance Docs I sit down with Sports Psychologist Dr. Scott Leydig to discuss how to face the unknown, how to stay motivated, and some thoughts on coping with the loss of identity.
This last week has brought on a new wave of emotions for many of us. With so many dance companies across the world closing their doors and rescheduling their seasons the questions are coming in with regards to the emotional impacts of not having any clear structure as to when will we return to work, and if there will still be a job for performing artists when all of this is over. Practitioners in the US have expressed concerns of having to close their small practices that focus on dance medicine as well as being called in to help make life altering decisions should our health care system become overwhelmed. As PT's we wear so many hats; as your Physical therapist, as your mental therapist, as a care giver, but in times like these I think it's necessary to reach out to the community at large and make sure that you are not only taken care of physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. The Dance Docs want to make sure that all aspects of dancer health are being addressed throughout the containment process of COVID-19.I am excited about this first segment of The Whole Dancer where I sit down with Sports Psychologist Dr. Scott Leydig. Scott is a clinical sport psychologist who works with athletes, dancers and performers. Dr. Davenport and myself have both worked with him as part of an interdisciplinary team to help dancers overcome anxiety, depression, coping with injuries and much more.
Wanda sits down with sports Sports Psychologist Dr. Joe Havlick about he markets his superpower being a warm demander. He talks about how he enables a rep or with both colleagues and family in his personal and business life.
