Women's Leadership, Women's Career Development, Business Executive Coaching & Podcast by Sabrina Braham MA PPC

Patricia Walsh's journey in overcoming limiting beliefs is a remarkable tale of overcoming adversity and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Born with a gradually worsening vision impairment, she faced significant challenges from a young age. Despite these hurdles, Patricia refused to let her disability define her. Instead, she embraced it as a unique aspect of her identity, pushing herself to achieve what many consider impossible. Patricia's leadership tips are a great story of grit, personal accountability, granite willpower, and a determination to conquer overwhelming odds. Walsh's achievements at 33 are more extraordinary than most people could expect in a lifetime: A successful career as a software engineer at Microsoft Entrepreneur & Author of Blind Ambition Professional speaker and Champion Athlete. She represented the United States in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.   Overcoming limiting beliefs is critical to achieving success and realizing one's full potential. Patricia Walsh's inspiring journey offers valuable insights into how to break free from these constraints and achieve greatness. Here are the key lessons and takeaways from her story.   Perseverance and Adaptability    - Incremental Progress:       Patricia highlights that significant transformations don't happen overnight. Embracing incremental progress helps one stay motivated and focused. Small, consistent efforts compound over time to achieve substantial results.    - Adaptation to Challenges:      Patricia's journey demonstrates the importance of adapting to new challenges. Whether she learned alternative strategies due to her vision impairment or found new ways to train as an athlete, adaptability is crucial for overcoming limiting beliefs and obstacles. Strategic Thinking and Planning    - Visionary Goal Setting:      - By envisioning an ideal outcome and then reverse-engineering the steps needed to achieve it, Patricia encourages a proactive approach to goal setting. This method allows for identifying the most effective path and resources required rather than constrained by limitations.    - Resourcefulness:    - Patricia's example of securing sponsorship for the best racing bike illustrates the importance of resourcefulness. Rather than settling for what's immediately affordable, she found a way to obtain the optimal solution, demonstrating that creativity and determination can overcome financial constraints and limiting beliefs. Focused Efforts    -  Running the Root Line:  The concept of “running the root line” underscores the importance of focusing on tasks that directly contribute to goal achievement. Efficiency and productivity are maximized by avoiding unnecessary efforts and concentrating on what truly matters. Prioritization: Patricia's approach emphasizes the need for prioritization. Identifying and focusing on high-impact activities ensures that energy and resources are directed toward achieving the primary objective rather than being diluted by less relevant tasks. Community and Support - The Secret to Leadership Success    - Building a Support Network:      - Patricia's success is partly attributed to her building a supportive network. Whether seeking advice, securing sponsorship, or finding training partners, having a community that believes in and supports your vision is invaluable in overcoming limiting beliefs. This is where a leadership mastermind group can be invaluable.   - Leadership Mentorship and Guidance:      - Patricia's openness to mentorship and guidance has been a key factor in her journey. Learning from others' experiences and seeking advice can provide new perspectives and solutions that may not have been considered otherwise. Having peers, trusted advisors or a coach, especially when developing your soft leadership skills, is essential to help you notice your “blind spots and blocks and overcoming limiting beliefs” that may be holding you back,

In this emotionally charged episode of "Pushing Forward with Alycia | A Disability Podcast" Dez Del Barba, a military veteran who became a survivor of medical malpractice after contracting necrotizing fasciitis during his basic training, showcases his unbreakable human spirt and shares his new passion for wheelchair tennis, where he's already won several championships. Dez contracted streptococcus A During his basic training, which, due to misdiagnosis and inadequate treatment, evolved into necrotizing fasciitis. His condition rapidly deteriorated, resulting in the amputation of his left leg above the knee, severe damage to his right leg, underarms, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Dez endured an astonishing 43 surgeries, spent 100 days in the ICU, and underwent months of grueling physical, occupational, and mental health therapy. Despite these unimaginable hardships Dez's story is one of resilience, determination, and triumph. He is not just a survivor; he's a fierce advocate for change within the military healthcare system. His journey from despair to becoming a champion athlete in wheelchair tennis is nothing short of inspirational. Dez's harrowing experience has turned into a mission of giving back through his nonprofit organization, Operation Dez Strong, which provides financial and emotional support to children undergoing amputations. Throughout the episode, we'll also discuss the pressing issue of medical malpractice within the military and the need for legislative changes to ensure accountability and justice for service members. What is necrotizing fasciitis? Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare bacterial infection that spreads quickly in the body and can cause death. This flesh-eating disease occurs when bacteria enter the body through a break in the skin. The condition spreads quickly. Symptoms include blisters, fever, fatigue, and pain worse than a person would expect based on the wound's appearance. Group A strep thought to be most common cause There are many types of bacteria that can cause the “flesh-eating disease” called necrotizing fasciitis. Public health experts believe group A Streptococcus (group A strep) are the most common cause of necrotizing fasciitis. This web page only focuses on necrotizing fasciitis caused by group A strep bacteria. Closing Message: No matter how daunting the challenges, Dez's journey teaches us that resilience, determination, and community support can lead to remarkable transformations. Keep pushing forward, one step at a time, and remember that you are never alone in your journey. Below are links to take urgent action Make a Public Comment demanding that DoD make uniformed service member malpractice victims whole, by removing the caps on damages and all offsets that diminish their benefits as related to their Proposed Rule for Medical Malpractice Claims by Members of the Uniformed Services. With over 400 triathlons to her name, today's guest Lesley Paterson is a 3x XTERRA Triathlon World Champion and 2x World Triathlon Cross Champion. But if you asked about her greatest test of endurance, it wouldn't be a race. It would be chasing an Oscar. For 16 years during her professional triathlon career, Lesley fought to secure and maintain the film rights to All Quiet on the Western Front out of her own pocket from race winnings. She wrote and rewrote the script, and despite the odds stacked heavily against her, never gave up on her dream of getting the movie made. After many years of starts and stops the film was finally released and took home four Oscars and seven BAFTAs—including one for best-adapted screenplay (this was Lesley's first screenplay might I add). All of which is a testament to her patience, discipline, and hard work. Lesley's relentless persistence is the focus of today's conversation, along with the importance of self-belief, playing the long game, and the ‘never quit' drive required to crush audacious goals. Delightful, engaging, and strong, I adore Lesley. There's a lot to learn from this fiery Scottish lassie. What does it take to become a champion?  Sure, you need to have talent, and drive, and access to the sport you want to play.   But it also takes some luck right from birth.  If you don't have a supportive family with the means and desire to help you on the right path, your road is going to be a lot tougher. Gwen Jorgensen became the United States' first Olympic gold medalist in the triathlon in 2016.  But her path to Rio was not a traditional one. She went through a lot of ups and downs and she wants to help the young athletes that come up behind her, by learning from her mistakes and learning what she did right. But as great of an athlete as Gwen is, she knew that the talent for writing a book belonged to others in her family.  Her mom, Nancy and her sister Elizabeth, are both teachers and writers.  So the three of them set off to write a guide aimed for young girls who are inspired by Gwen's story and want to learn from one of the best. Welcome to the Planted Runner.  I'm Coach Claire Bartholic and my mission is to help you improve your running, your mindset, and your life with science-backed training and plant-based nutrition. In this episode, Nancy and Liz Jorgensen tell Gwen's story and teach some of the lessons in their new guidebook.  You'll learn: How to raise a champion athlete How goal setting can be transformational for athletes of all ages, and How to balance a high performance lifestyle while being a young athlete If you are a fan of Gwen's, you know that she just had a baby so she didn't join us for this one, but I hope to have her on in the future. His athletic accomplishments are extraordinary. He won the 2018 Age Group Ironman World Championship, was the 1st non-professional athlete to finish, and set an age-group world record of 8hrs 24mins. What’s incredible about that, is he did that whilst still working full-time as a sports scientist and coach.  He’s worked with professional Triathletes Tim Van Berkel, Jan Van Berkel, Caroline Steffen, and Terenzo Bozzone and the list goes on, and the New Zealand America’s Cup sailing team.  He's one of the world’s greatest minds in endurance sports. He has the practical, personal experience and he has the science.  In this episode, Dan describes everything there is to know about HRV (Heart Rate variability). He discusses LCHF (Low Carbohydrate, High "Healthy" Fat) diets. And he discusses how he coaches his athletes by first looking at the event and what it takes to be successful in that event, the individual and what their strengths and weaknesses are, and then what training best fits. Dan shares some entertaining stories of some of the training of the power athletes in the team Emirates New Zealand Americas Cup crew. And how a 4min time trial for men that are raw power... may have been too far.  This episode, had Greg laughing at times and then jotting down incredible knowledge at others. Incredible insights and remarkable stories.

Jami Goldman Marseilles, motivational speaker, teacher and gold medal athlete inspires and connects with the audience on the importance of dedication, perseverance, stamina, strength and triumph. Jami Goldman Marseilles is a mother, teacher, author, multiple gold medal winner, world record holder, motivational speaker and double amputee. Her remarkable chronicle of redemption began on a fateful day in December 1987. Driving home from a ski trip in New Mexico, Jami, 19, and her friend Lisa, found themselves on a deserted Arizona logging road in a blinding snow storm. After sliding into a snow bank the women found themselves stranded and alone, huddling for warmth in their stalled, now buried Chevy Blazer while the storm raged on. It was three days and three nights before the storm abated and they were finally able to emerge from the buried Blazer. They quickly discovered that the snow was too deep for them to seek help and with supplies limited to a cinnamon roll and a frozen six-pack of soda they retreated to the car to wait for a rescue party. But none had been sent. Unbeknownst to Jami, Lisa and their families the road had been closed by the regional authorities. It was another week before they were chanced upon by two recreational snow-mobilers. Barely conscious and severely frost-bitten Jami and Lisa were rushed to the hospital. While she had barely escaped death Jami now had to face the horrendous implications of gangrene in her legs and both were amputated below the knee. Thus began her remarkable journey of recovery. With characteristic determination Jami endured months of painful therapy, strengthening her upper body, relearning how to walk with her prosthetics. But in typical fashion learning to walk again was not enough. In 1996, after watching the Paralympics Games, Jami decided to become a professional Paralympics runner herself. Fitted with “Cheetah” legs, she took naturally to running, and soon began to compete internationally. Not only is she the holder of numerous world records and multiple gold medals, Jami is currently the only “double below the knee amputee” woman in the world to have successfully completed a half marathon and full marathon. UP AND RUNNING, The Jami Goldman Story, 2001, Pocket Books, Simon & Schuster is a powerfully candid, uplifting and inspiring account of Jami’s extraordinary triumph over adversity and her personal transformation from victim of tragic circumstance to world-record breaking athlete, author and motivational speaker.

Mark Knowles is a four-time Olympic athlete, playing at the elite international level for over 15 years in an extremely physically, mentally and emotionally demanding sport of field hockey that provides very little financial support nor material reward. Enduring success in this sport is purely about the level of dedication to and the love for the game. Mark was one of the game’s best, hardest working and highest rewarded players. Here’s a brief run down on his long list of achievements on the international stage, where he was instrumental in winning 13 international gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals: He played in four consecutive Olympic campaigns At just 20 years of age he was the youngest in the team to win Australia’s first ever hockey gold medal and went on to collect two more Olympic bronze medals with the Kookaburras He has four Commonwealth Games gold medals Has won two World Cups Two World League final gold medals Four World Champions trophies In 2007 he won the World’s Best Young Player award He was named the 2014 FIH World Player of the Year Captain of the Australian National Kookaburras side for four years from 2014 until his retirement in 2018 324 appearances for Australia, the third highest in Australian history In 2005 he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) Crowned the final climax of his career with his recognition as the 2018 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony Flag Bearer What is interesting here is that there were periods during his ascendancy where the Kookaburras won 179 games and only lost eight. During this time however, out of four Olympic gold medal campaigns they achieved one and lost three. So were they successful? It depends how you look at success. Now coming back to Mark, to see a boy from the Queensland sticks get into the national team is a big achievement, but to stay at that demanding elite level for so long (and excuse the bad pun) is a ‘mark’ of a true champion. But what is most admirable about Knowlesy is his humble, down to earth, country boy approach, his unadorned passion and his commitment to helping others achieve their best. So how did he do it? What separates him from others? What does it take to survive, thrive and endure in such a totally taxing environment? And interestingly, what part has investing in property contributed to his journey so far? How can you learn from him and apply his success formula to help you achieve your goals and enjoy your definition of success? Now as they say, success leaves clues, and with Knowlesy’s sustained success over so many years, he leaves a lot of them and shares many in this great chat today. He recently authored a book- The LENS. Travis' explanation of the book: "Studying, writing, and developing this game plan have given me a chance to clarify for myself the sports parent I want to be. I hope it will help you clarify who you want to be, too. And even though nobody's perfect in this area, I do hope each of us can see clearly that there's no greater opportunity to prepare our kids for success than the one we have through sports. There's nothing better than the idea of living a life that feels aligned with what you simply LOVE to do. It's just one of the many things I admire about my friend Sonya Looney. She's a World Champion athlete who has managed to build a dedicated following, a thought-leadership platform, a podcast and personal brand simply by sharing what she learns, loves, and believes. There are so many lessons to learn from Sonya, but the first one is to make sure you're finding a way to do more of what excites you. Sonya has built (and is still building) her following with chasing like and follows, but by being herself and sharing her perspectives with the world. Click to Subscribe on >> iTunes, Stitcher Radio or Tunein. Unbreakable Success Podcast, Episode 50 World Champion Athlete, Sonya Looney - How to Build a Following with Authenticity. TRANSCRIPT: Aaron: 00:00 Alright you guys welcome back to another episode of Unbreakable Success. We have a pretty amazing guest today as we always do, but this one's really special. Her name is Sonya Looney. She's a world champion. I'm a mountain biker. She's a motivational speaker, professional athlete, adventure, author. Sonia is up to so many things. She just opened her a shop called Moxie and grit. Is that right? Sonya? That's right. I will talk about that in a few minutes. Um, but Sonya, you do some amazing things and I, I got a lead into this by saying seven day races, like you gotta, like give me a short segment of how that happened. Sonya: 00:39 Yeah, 70 races. It's funny, it sounds really long, but when you're doing it, it doesn't seem like it's that long. But basically what happened was when I first started mountain biking, I was doing shorter courses like in it's called cross country racing and those are typically about an hour and a half long. So most people are familiar with running. They're familiar with 5k , 10k marathon, ultra marathon. So basically I started doing the ultra marathon style of racing in mountain biking and then from there there was these races called stage races where every day there's a set start and finish, but a different course and sometimes it's point to point or sometimes it's a loop from a central location, but you get to race on seven, seven different courses in a country or region and accumulative time at the end of the seven days is the final results of the race. So it rewards consistency over being crazy one day and then being tired the next. Aaron: 01:36 Well there's got to be some great business lessons in there. I'm sure we'll share it. We'll definitely segue into that to talk about the consistency, but for anybody that doesn't know you or you got so much going on, but what is. What's the. What would be your definition of, of what you do? You know, Sonya Looney writing or speaking her own bio. How would you describe yourself? Right now? Sonya: 02:02 I would describe myself as somebody who is trying to use what I'm passionate about, which is mountain biking and adventures, to use it as a vehicle to talk about things that I've learned to help me live the life I'm living, like I'm living my dream. It's incredible. Like never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be where I am today. So my why, my why when I wake up in the morning, I want to help make the world a better place without sounding cliche. I want to give people the tools and the confidence to take steps in their life to go after that thing that they want to do. It doesn't have to be a mountain biking, but just that thing that they want to do. Everybody has something in the back of their mind that they wished that they would do. And I want to help break down the barriers so people can go after that. Aaron: 02:46 That's pretty awesome. That's amazing. I love that you're, um, you know, how, how you parlayed your, almost your, uh, your athleticism in and you're biking and turning into a much larger mission. I'd love to know because there's so much like when people go to yo...

Nicola Kelly travels to the remote outpost of Tindouf to meet champion runner Salah Ameidan.Identified at a young age as a talented cross-country athlete, Salah was forced to run under the Moroccan flag. Last week you heard some great insights from Champion Athlete, Jan Frodeno on his quest to take on Kona and what he has had to do to make the transition from short-course to long-course a successful one. Today we get to talk his wife, Olympic Gold Medalist, Commonwealth Medalist and 3x World Champion - Emma Snowsill. Emma has enjoyed an amazing career but has dealt with some serious health issues, that ultimately lead to her retiring from the sport. As a result Emma has learned some hard lessons and had decided to embark on a quest to fully understand health and help educate athletes as to what real health actually means. Emma Talks About: What being a World Champion has taught her. Why she stopped racing. Emma's personal health journey. Learning about true health. Understanding that what we eat underpins performance. Giving back to the sport. Being an ambassador. Educating people on the sport through commentary. What is in store for Emma. This was a fantastic opportunity to sit down and speak candidly with such a remarkable athlete - and person. Emma's positivity is amazing as she prefers to view her health battles as step into a new direction and career, rather than something that holds her back. Emma's story carries the message that as athletes we owe it ourselves to understand what true health really is. You should check Emma out on Instagram and via her Website.
