It was a morning commute Chris Greiner had made hundreds of times before. Living in old Shanghai and working in the city's sleek business district, Greiner's daily drive to the Jin Mao Tower often stretched well beyond an hour. But on this particular day, his driver told him they'd arrive in just 30 minutes. Puzzled but intrigued, Greiner went along—only to discover the traffic patterns had shifted. “They repainted the lines,” the driver told him with a grin. The same bridge, same road—just used differently.Greiner never forgot the lesson. As CFO of Zeta Global, he often draws from that experience when approaching business challenges. “You might be fixed in your infrastructure, but there's almost always another way through,” he tells us.That mindset is now shaping Zeta's evolving AI strategy. Rather than applying AI for efficiency's sake, Greiner tells us his team follows the real patterns of work—starting with customer behaviors. “We began by observing how marketers use our platform,” he says, “then built automations to eliminate keystrokes and surface next-best actions.”Now, the finance function is adopting the same approach. Greiner's team is analyzing daily tasks across accounting, FP&A, and sales operations to identify which can be codified and automated. Zeta is building agent-based workflows that transform data into actionable insights—at the push of a button.“We're letting the work show us where to go,” Greiner says. And like that rush-hour bridge in Shanghai, sometimes a better route is just a few new lines away.

Ça me donne énormément d'énergie ! »Hébergé par Ausha. Visitez ausha.co/politique-de-confidentialite pour plus d'informations.

In today's episode, we sit down with the dynamic David A. Steinberg, the co-founder and CEO of Zeta Global, a cloud marketing tech giant that recently broke down the distinctions between the shopping behaviors of Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X. How are they choosing brands? What's their shopping platform of choice? And how do these patterns signal the booming rise of live shopping and the "phygital" fusion in the retail space? As marketers scramble to decipher the digital-native Gen Z and anticipate the upcoming Generation Alpha, David sheds light on why understanding these consumer habits is paramount. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. With Zeta Global's expertise in harnessing AI-powered insights from a monumental data pool, they've been steering Fortune 500 brands like Hanes, Toyota, and Purple towards understanding consumer intentions. Not to mention their recent introduction of generative AI data analysts, ramping up companies' marketing arsenals.   Co-founding Zeta Global alongside ex-Apple CEO John Sculley, David has seen the company's triumphant public debut in 2021 and watched its market cap soar to a staggering $2B. But with AI's meteoric rise come significant concerns, especially regarding its impact on jobs. In light of recent events where thousands of film and television writers went on strike, citing AI as a factor in their job insecurity, David provides a refreshing perspective. Contrary to common fears, Zeta Global has showcased a model where AI augments the workforce rather than replaces it.  In our deep dive, David speaks about: The unique role AI plays in enhancing workplace productivity by weeding out redundant tasks. Tasks that AI can masterfully automate, which are beyond human capability, especially handling vast data quantities. The potential AI holds in not only creating new job avenues but also elevating existing ones. With rivals like Salesforce, Adobe, and Oracle in the fray, Zeta Global stands out with its unique blend of technology, data, and consumer insight. Dive in as we unpack David's profound insights, his vision for the future of AI and retail, and his storied journey in scaling tech businesses over the past three decades. It's a conversation brimming with revelations, and you won't want to miss it!

It was not long after Chris Greiner became CFO of IBM's fast-growing Analytics Division that the gravitational pull that IBM had maintained on Greiner's finance career-building began to give way. While his new divisional CFO title more than validated his 7-year career investment with the company, Greiner—like many divisional finance chiefs—discovered the next rung of the company's finance career ladder becoming increasingly obscured from view.   Meanwhile, his divisional CFO role afforded him a wider view into IBM's business development as he sat across the table from different owners of middle-market companies.    “What I saw was companies that were 200 to 400 employees in size, with hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue, that were being successful at disrupting markets, and I knew then that I wanted to be on the other side of the table one day,” recalls Greiner, who notes that the experience of dealing with business leaders intent on disrupting the market led him to his revise his career-building agenda. Says Greiner: “I knew that for me to get the experiences I wanted to get, I needed to take a leap.” One of those experiences, Greiner reports, had to do with talent development in midsize firms versus that at large enterprise companies like IBM. “At IBM, you can't empty the tank when it comes to talent because there is always another person looking to step in to fill a role when someone leaves,” observes Greiner, who points out that talent development in midsize companies is not always as robust. “That muscle for developing talent within an organization needs to be worked on,” comments Greiner, who found that his menu of responsibilities inside midsize firms also became more fluid.   Adds Greiner: “Another eye-opener for me—post-IBM —was how I needed to invest a disproportionate amount of time on the organization itself.” –Jack Sweeney

To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1085/29 We all know that our FICO score has a huge impact on our finances, but did you know another number could be just as important and you may not even know about it? It’s called your Secret Consumer Score and most of us don’t even know we have one. Today, host Rob West and Steve Moore explain this little-known measurement and the affect it can have on your money. These consumer scores can impact other things, not just our buying decisions. Another name for this is, Secret Surveillance Scores. There are several companies doing the surveilling, including Sift, Zeta Global, and Retail Equation. They compile huge amounts of data on you and from that they determine your secret consumer score, which they then sell to those who want information on your buying habits. Sift specializes in protecting companies against fraud, and they concentrate more on transactions than people. Zeta Global rates your value as a customer, and retailers use that data to determine what services they’ll offer you and how they’ll treat you as a customer. Retail Equation tries to identify customers committing fraud. Big retailers use it to determine whether they’ll allow you to return a purchased item. Your secret consumer score could be used to determine the offers you receive, maybe even the prices you see when shopping online. Some landlords use it to determine whether you’re likely to pay rent on time and how much you can afford in the way of future rent increases. Make sure you shop around before making a major online purchase and be wary of ads you see while doing it, because they’re not likely to be the best deals out there. Try using a privacy window in your browser so your shopping can’t be tracked. That way, the offers you see may not be based on your secret consumer score. Adjust your privacy settings for your smartphone to prevent background data from being shared. Here are a couple of questions we answered from our callers on today’s program: I have $17,000 of revolving credit card debt. Should I take out a home equity loan and get it paid off? Retailers now use third party data services to determine whether you get to return an item, regardless of their return policy. "Machine learning" big data companies are crunching data on us all different ways and issuing secret scores, very different from credit scores. The NYT reports on these outfits including Retail Equation, and one called Sift which analyzes 16,000 different factors on an individual to come up with a Sift score for sale. Clark has requested his data from one such company called Zeta Global. Many of these have operated in the shadows, only marketing to companies while stonewalling curious consumers. But California's new privacy law takes effect in January, giving consumers the right to access such data and have it removed. Some of the services are already complying nationwide. They're all terrified of states passing such statutes with differing requirements. We should have the right to control and delete dossiers on us. What happens when these companies get hit with data breaches and all our info is further exposed? Clark will share his requested data files, let you know what you need to access and what rights you have with your own data. Creepy that all these organizations are developing secret scores on us using their own methodologies. Where is privacy? It's not written into our Constitution because early America was so rural, connection was the goal. Privacy is a modern concept that now must be adopted as a national effort comparable to European privacy law which is working well.  Christa reads listener posts about how Clark has missed the mark in his advice this week. Former Apple CEO and Pepsi President John Sculley talks about his past, present and future as an entrepreneur and technology leader as co-founder of Zeta Global, an independent marketing cloud company. John says AI is going to be as foundational to the world of business as oil and electricity was back in the industrial age, and the real disruption is applying the technology. It’s a wonderful time to be an entrepreneur even if you’re starting out with a very small business. Technology in 2019 is geared towards smaller companies getting on a boat on the river of consumerization and taking advantage of the major trends in technology. There will be such commoditization of technology which has exponential growth capabilities that are incredibly cost efficient that even smaller companies can build consumer services using a big cloud platform and be able to pay for it without having to raise millions of dollars.

The real story of Steve Jobs 'getting fired' from Apple, with guest John Sculley

It's legend in the computer industry: In the mid '80s, Steve Jobs was ousted from Apple, the company he co-founded and went on to eventually lead to worldwide dominance, after a boardroom battle with the CEO at the time, John Sculley. Over the years, the story got altered and adapted -- to the point where many assumed Jobs was fired, either by Sculley or Apple's board, which wasn't the case. Jobs did lose a boardroom showdown with Sculley (which actually played out over a week or so), one where Jobs' plan of moving marketing dollars from the Apple II to the Macintosh Office was rejected by the board, which led to Jobs being stripped of his leadership of the Macintosh team and pushed him to leave the company. In other words, Jobs ouster was tantamount to a firing, but not an actual firing. Good information, but not as good as knowing Sculley's thoughts and reflections about the incident, some 30+ years on. But that's just what we got when we sat down to talk to the former Apple CEO for Mashable's MashTalk podcast. Now 78, Sculley has gained a new appreciation for founders since his time at Apple, and has gone on to become one himself: He co-founded Zeta Global, a data-driven marketing company, in 2007 and founded Obi Worldphone, which builds smartphones for emerging markets. He's also been an investor in many other companies since he himself was forced out of Apple in 1993, including MetroPCS, Wine Clip, and PopTech. Sculley had a lot to say about the state of the tech industry and the current backlash against it. On the podcast he shares his thoughts on what social media has done to society, where he stands on government regulation of tech, and the fundamentals we need to stick to as we try to integrate technology into our lives as we chart our own future. Follow @MashTalk on Twitter.
