This week is part one with reality TV icon Teresa Giudice in a candid, unfiltered deep-dive and whirlwind tour through her life on and off screen. From our first moments—debating the proper way to pronounce “Ju-dice” versus “Ju-dee-jay”— We establish a playful, offbeat vibe that sets the tone for raw honesty, humor, and insight. Teresa opens about her 17-year journey on TV—that has seen her transition from a hesitant mom of three into the most recognized face of the Housewives franchise. She recounts how signing on to the show wasn't an immediate decision. “It took almost a year to sign the contract,” she admits, reflecting on her initial confusion and uncertainty about what the venture would truly entail and caught in the windstorm of fame, family drama, and unexpected twists. Over a lively Armenian Coffee ritual—complete with humorous instructions on how to flip the cup and playful banter she reveals how fame magnified personal challenges and touches on how the pressures of being a housewife on TV accelerated inevitable family tensions and transformed her personal life. With trademark candor, she details how her family was drawn into the spotlight, sometimes against her wishes, and how even close relationships became complicated by the behind-the-scenes maneuvers of producers and casting calls. Teresa shares intimate details about her past relationships, contrasting the shallow excitement of her previous marriage with the profound connection she now enjoys with her current partner, Louie. She describes him as her “twin flame,” a partner who truly supports and understands her—a stark contrast to the lackluster passion of her former relationship, which was marred by betrayal and financial missteps. Alongside amusing anecdotes about celebrity encounters (a nod to Kevin Costner's charm and playful jabs at Jennifer Lopez), the discussion dives into life lessons learned from navigating the turbulent world of reality TV. Not one to shy away from practical advice, she offers tips for aspiring housewives and reality stars alike. She stresses the importance of financial independence, the need to scrutinize every contract, and the value of knowing every detail of your partner's business affairs—reminding us that a public life often magnifies the personal. Additionally, she recounts her pre-TV career in the fashion industry, from working in Macy's buying office at Herald Square to her ventures with Calvin Klein and Nine West, painting a picture of a multifaceted woman who has reinvented herself time and again. Throughout our conversation, the playful interplay between all of us provides both levity and depth. The humorous take on everything from coffee rituals to celebrity gossip underscores a deeper narrative: the complex, layered reality behind the glamorous persona as she reflects on the lasting influence of her immigrant upbringing, her close bond with her late parents, and the indelible mark her early life has left on her, we are treated to an intimate portrait of resilience, reinvention, and raw authenticity. Get ready to sip your coffee, flip your cup, and dive into the heart, humor, and hard-won wisdom of Teresa Giudice on this unforgettable episode! Matewan (written and directed by John Sayles) dramatizes the events of the Battle of Matewan, a coal miners' strike in 1920 in a small town in the hills of West Virginia. In the film, Joe Kenehan (Chris Cooper, in his film debut), an ex-Wobbly organizer for the United Mine Workers (also known as the “Wobblies”), arrives in Matewan, to organize miners against the Stone Mountain Coal Company. Kenehan and his supporters must battle the company's use of scabs and outright violence, resist the complicity of law enforcement in the company's tactics, and overcome the racism and xenophobia that helps divide the labor movement. Sayles's film provides a window into the legal and social issues confronting the labor movement in the early twentieth century and into the Great Coalfield War of that period. I'm joined by Fred B. Jacob, Solicitor of the National Labor Relations Board and labor law professor at George Washington University Law School. “It's ironic that Abby chooses bullying given her method of teaching,” Christi says about the theme of this episode's dance. Abby has it out for almost everyone this week. She's upset that Chloe is at the top of the pyramid instead of Maddie, and is determined to throw Chloe off of her game before the next competition. She's mad at Paige for her error in last week's number, so removes Paige from her place in the “sacred trio” and humiliates her for hours at the studio. And there's her usual bag of tricks: hurling nasty insults, taking out on the girls her issues with their mothers because she is too cowardly to confront the moms directly, and punishing everyone for doing exactly what she asked them to do. Only this week her voice is somehow extra creepy. Joining the dance is Peyton, whose mom Leslie demonstrates why she earned her place as one of the biggest bullies in Dance Moms history. She grills Christi and Kelly at lunch about why they choose to keep bringing their kids to Abby's studio if she treats them so badly. Holly, as the principal of a prestigious school, has a zero tolerance policy for bullying. She also isn't comfortable with the stereotype being perpetuated by having Nia perform the role of the bully in the dance, and so removes her. Kelly and Christi admit to taking low blows at Abby's body, but they say that given the things Abby has said to their kids over the years (which the audience hasn't heard a fraction of) they are justified. Quotes “I want to point out that when Peyton comes in, our kids are the nicest damn children. They run to her. They jump on her. They hug her. They're so excited. Our kids are never jerks to anybody who comes into the studio, ever.” (22:24-22:38 | Christi) “One thing I can say, Chloe's 21, she has been through 150 years of school. She's had 7000 teachers. I have never heard a teacher say anything except that she's the nicest kid. And here's this asshole.” (29:46-39:55 | Christi and Kelly) “I love how Leslie always brings up that she's been there for four years. Like she deserves to be there because she's been there for four years. I'm thinking of myself. Four years?! I've been here for like 36!” (33:18-33:31 | Kelly) “I could have cared less about them having a trio and Paige not being in it. It was the fact that she was rubbing it in her face. Yes, Abby was rubbing it in her face and torturing the child.” (35:28-35:39 | Kelly) “I just wonder, since she and Abby are so close, I wonder how Abby would feel to know that Leslie's trying to get rid of some of her paying customers.” (40:31-40:39 | Christi) “We've been to so many places because every weekend we went somewhere different on the show. And my kids don't even know half the places we went. Because you know what? You never saw anything. You got there. You went to the competition and you left like so. We saw some mediocre hotel rooms, is what we saw. Two stars.” (43:18-43:37 | Kelly and Christi) “Abby always made it that she was the star and the rest of us were just minions. The town of Stillwater, Minnesota, just outside the Twin Cities, is known for being the oldest town in Minnesota, but now it's known for something else: West-coast levels of tyrannical mask mania. Abby Lee is a mom in Stillwater. Her son, a six-year-old, was just expelled from school for not abiding by a strict masking mandate. Abby Lee joins us. It's sad enough seeing covid vaccines in adults who believed lies they were told, or who had to choose between the shot or losing their jobs. But now the FDA has raced to approve giving the jab to children under age 12, and that means we're now seeing our first cases of severe side effects in kids who were too young to even make an informed choice. Dr. Jane Ruby joins us. These vaccines were rushed out as quickly as possible, and Donald Trump played a central role in getting them rushed out. Now, he's deflecting responsibility to Biden; he says that Biden has failed to “sell” the public on the vaccine. Thanks to the same rushed process that the president himself promoted, it's going to be hurting helpless young children. Dr. Paul Alexander joins us. It feels like there hasn't been nearly as much attention on Maxwell's trial in the press, compared to all the others, and rest assured, that's likely by design. A lot of people, powerful people, don't want the public learning too much about what Jeffrey Epstein was really doing. When Epstein “committed suicide,” he'd been charged with fraud and sex trafficking of minors, but there was every reason to suspect far more may have been going on. And according to prosecutors, Maxwell was at the center of all of it, as Epstein's fixer and chief recruiter. And, again according to prosecutors, she also participated in some of the sexual abuse of minors directly. Kash Patel joins us. New documents have been released proving that the CIA covered up at least 10 cases of agents raping kids and veraciously consuming child pornography, and got off scoff-free. Stew Peters show investigative journalist Edward Szall digs into the report and makes the case for disbanding the Central Intelligence Agency. Episode 128 of Coffee with Comrades features a conversation with independent journalist Abby Lee Hood. We discuss the storied history of the term “redneck," critiquing liberal elitism and self-righteousness, exploring the labor history of rednecks, and analyzing how these consequential struggles for working class people were coopted by the ruling class and sold back to us in the form of pop country stars and reactionary nationalism. As is often the case in conversations like these, our dialogue bounced around a lot. One of the things we touched on briefly was the Derek Chauvin trial. We recorded this interview before the police killing of Daunte Wright. Obviously, the terrain has shifted a bit since Abby Lee and I’s conversation as folks in Minneapolis have been engaged in the struggle for justice against Brooklyn Center PD. All power and solidarity to the folks bravely standing up to the cops in Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis, Chicago, and all across this country as we continue to fight for abolition and justice. We explore the moment we are in and where to go from here, including how it is more important now than ever to include antifascism into everything we do. Not only is supporting antifascism the right thing to do, but we will never pass a Green New Deal or any other progressive legislation if we don't both practice antifascism and push for democratic reforms. We continue the conversation with Professor Katy Reedy and her class at Lake Forest College, taking student questions about Austin Tichenor's approach to directing Twelfth Night for the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company in the fall of 2018. Austin talks about the trick to balancing the comedic and dramatic elements in his production, Shakespeare's anachronistic examples, illustrating sisters in loss, staging the subtext, taking actor suggestions, creating a world in which both comedy and drama can co-exist and where certain kinds of storytelling can happen, underlying tensions, potentially anti-climactic reunion scenes, going on a journey with your characters, the importance of working with really great people, and discovering that not everything is actually in the text. Featuring the wonder of two women sharing scenes onstage (and the weirdly specific thing that makes it possible), Viola's narrative burden, definitive roles we're dying to play (lookin' at you, Valentine), the question of why Olivia is not a more generally-desired role in the Shakespearean canon, Olivia's similarity to Kate from Taming of the Shrew, the magic alchemy of shared grief, roles that allow for greater interpretive freedom, wonderful surprises, hitting that sweet spot between fun n' games and tragedy, and the joy of laughing and crying in rehearsal. AFTERBUZZ TV -- Dance Moms edition, is a weekly "after show" for fans of Lifetime's Dance Moms. In this episode hosts Miaira Jennings, Candice Camacho and JJ Snyder discuss episode 16 of season 6. ABOUT DANCE MOMS: Primarily set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and, since 2015 in Los Angeles, Dance Moms follows the Abby Lee Dance Company's Junior Elite Competition Team of mostly preteen girls as they travel week-to-week to various dance competitions, winning awards and preparing for Nationals, while at the same time being prepared by Abby Lee Miller to be "professional, employable working dancers." The series depicts the doting mothers as rivals of each other on behalf of their own daughters, often arguing with Miller and each other, and sometimes closing ranks against rival teams. Dance performances are creatively conceptualized by Miller and her dance instructors, with input from the show's producers, while choreography is done by Miller, her staff, and occasionally a guest choreographer. Various rival dance teams spur the team's competitiveness. The show's success is often credited to the drama and conflict among Miller and the moms, along with the weekly dances and the close relationships among the girls as viewers watch them grow up and improve their skills. The show features Miller as a strict dance team coach who, over the series, relies more and more on criticism, sometimes personal, to motivate the girls, with an emphasis on hard work and competition against teammates. Every week on the show, Miller uses a pyramid of individual headshots and gives feedback to each girl about their ranking, previous week's performance, attitude, effort, and the behavior of the girl herself and her mother. Miller had never used a pyramid in her studio prior to Dance Moms, and when once asked about the it, Miller stated, "I've never done that in my life. That has nothing to do with me. That's the show; they came up with that whole process." In season 5, Miller relocated the team to Los Angeles to help build her reputation on the west coast, and while the team continued weekly competitions, the focus has shifted somewhat to include preparation for acting and music business careers. In the season 5 reunion episode, first broadcast in August 18, 2015, Miller contemplated changes to the Junior elite competition team for season 6 as most of the girls are aging out of the junior category.
