As we roll into a brand new year filled with goals and aspirations, this week's guest, fan-favorite Peloton Cycling instructor Christine D'Ercole would like to remind us that the most powerful thing anyone can say to us is what we say to ourselves, and we have agency in that conversation. Now 52, Christine has started using her enormous platform to share her experiences with the menopause transition and to defy and rewrite the story that we've been told about what menopause means when it comes to what we're capable of and how we see ourselves. When she's not putting power into her pedals, she's helping women empower themselves by changing their self talk and helps guide them with her signature mantra: I Am I Can I Will I Do. We cover Christine's menopause experience; her body image battles, and how she uses self talk in her own life and you can too. You can learn more about her and her work at christinedercole.com.Christine D'Ercole is a speaker, writer, decorated competitive cyclist, and original Peloton Cycling Instructor who inspires thousands daily with her work on and off the bike. She is also the founder of WORDSHOP: a workshop in self-talk that is a practical and profound tool for change, centered on the four prompts that make up the root of all our self-talk: I am... I can... I will... and I do. Over the past ten years she has provided wordshops for major corporations, youth organizations and Employee Resource Groups. When she is not writing or speaking, Christine is racing her bike at Velodromes across the country. Dear listeners, We are so excited to offer this episode and our wonderful conversation with Ms. Christine D'Ercole. Christine is a world-class bicycler, renowned Peloton instructor, and founder and leader of Wordshops. In our time together, we cover a lot of topics including why a seemingly simple question of "Where Am I?" is so critical to our personal work. Christine reminds us that we are our own worst critic and we must name and notice where we are in order to get where we want to go. This was such a wonderful conversation and we know you are going to enjoy it. Carey and Danielle

Christine D'Ercole has lived many lives. After her original dream of becoming a ballerina was crushed because her legs and thighs were labeled “too big” she turned her focus towards acting. Unfortunately, her legs were again taking center stage. She attended a performing arts high school and then Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Christine accidentally stumbled upon a personal file that included paragraphs of positive notes but at the bottom of the page was the comment “a little heavy in the thigh.” Christine refused to let her body type stop her from pursuing her dream so she continued auditioning after college and worked as a bike messenger. It was during this time that Christine that her legs and thighs were an attribute as she regularly outraced her co-workers and took big hills with little effort. A few of her colleagues were also racing cyclists who introduced Christine to the sport. Before long, she was racing competitively, had sponsorship deals, and traveled across the US racing against Olympians and world champions. A decorated competitive track cyclist, Masters World Champion and five-time National Champion, Christine is now a Senior Instructor at Peloton, and her classes are grounded in the science of cycling and the power of words. In this episode, Christine discusses her early setbacks with body image, finding her passion for cycling, the nerve-racking anxiety that comes with riding a bike through the streets of a major city, becoming a Masters World Champion, and returning to the sport after a long hiatus. **This episode is supported by Manscaped.
