Matterport's Annual ESG Report Highlights the Importance of its Digital Twin Technology in Reducing Carbon Footprint SUNNYVALE, California, Monday, December 11, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Matterport, Inc. (Nasdaq: MTTR), today released the company's second Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report assessing the impact of Matterport's products and programs toward driving sustainable and equitable outcomes. The report, based on 2022 data, builds on the company's inaugural report last year as the company further establishes company-wide ESG goals and commitments. In its second year of reporting the impact of Matterport's digital twins on reducing carbon footprint, the findings continue to demonstrate Matterport's technology is a highly effective alternative to completing tasks that historically required travel. The ability to interact and work within spaces such as construction sites, manufacturing facilities, or simply tour a home without having to physically travel to the location has enabled people globally to work smarter and more sustainably, reducing the need for business travel and easing the strain on the environment. This has helped Matterport's customers avoid an estimated 756,952 tonnes of carbon emissions since the company began tracking the measure in 2021. “We have made excellent progress on our agenda to deliver measurable sustainability benefits to our customers while improving our own operating efficiency through strong governance and execution ,” said RJ Pittman, Chairman and CEO, Matterport. “Matterport's Digital Twin Platform has become a critical lever for our customers and their properties to operate more sustainably and efficiently from anywhere in the world, and our next generation of intelligent digital twins will further amplify the sustainable impact of our platform.” The company has continued to embrace its remote first workplace model to create a flexible work environment while reducing its physical footprint and increasing productivity. This has led to steady reductions in direct emissions, and a shift in the company's supply chain management, including improving the recyclability and reusability of its cameras components. The company's total greenhouse gas emissions increased 37% to 11,669 tonnes as a result of increased Scope 3 emissions, which are primarily accounted for on a spend-basis, with increases to outside services like advertising and consulting contributing to the overall increase. Matterport reported several updates to its Social track across Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Employee Engagement, and Health, Benefits and Wellness, with highlights including results from the company's first survey tracking employee sentiment of inclusion and belonging, as well as the first companywide week dedicated to community service, Matterport Cares. Additional highlights from the report included: 1. Carbon Emissions Avoided: Over 2.5 million Matterport digital twins were created in 2022, helping Matterport customers avoid an estimated 382,640 tonnes of carbon emissions– totaling 756,952 tonnes since the company began tracking the measure in 2021. 2. Enterprise Carbon Calculator: In 2022, the company began working with an outside carbon accounting firm to develop an emissions calculator for enterprise customers, providing a personalized view of each customer's aggregate digital twin usage to determine cost, time and emissions savings using the Matterport Digital Twin Platform. The calculator is expected to be available in beta for Tier-1 enterprise customers by Q1 2024. 3. Supply Chain Improvements: In 2022, Matterport reassessed and changed its supply chain for the Pro3 camera and its manufacturing process. Previously assembled at the company's headquarters from more than 100 components manufactured and shipped in by multiple suppliers, the modularized Pro3 camera is now manufactured by an experienced global partner, with key critical components created in the same region to minimize our logistics carbon footprint. 4. 100% Electronic Waste Recycled: In 2022, 100% of Matterport's electronic waste was sent to a certified specialist recycling firm. 5. Significantly Reduced Product Footprint: Roughly 99% of Matterport's camera components are recoverable and reusable, while the remaining 1% that is unrecoverable is responsibly recycled. Total emissions from the Pro3 are 46% less carbon intensive than the Pro2, on a per camera basis. This is due to several factors including the Pro3 weighing less than the Pro2 and our updated supply chain that minimizes the distance between component manufacturing and camera assembly. 6. Business Leadership: In 2022, Matterport received Comparably awards in seven categories, which are provided annually to companies recognized by their employees as having a strong company culture. Awards included: Best Company Compensation, Happiest Employees, Best Career Growth, Best CEOs for Diversity, Best CEOs for Women, Best Places to Work in the Bay Area and Best Company Outlook. Bruce Berndt is a Mathematics professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who spent more than 40 years finding the proofs of Ramanujan's Notebooks. According to Academic Influence, Dr. Bernt is the 5th most influential mathematician. In this conversation, we talk to Dr. Berndt to find out how Ramanujan found him and how Dr. Berndt found Ramanujan. Srinivasa Ramanujan (aka The Man Who Knew Infinity) was the greatest Indian mathematician ever to have lived. His story is a story of obsessively following his curiosity and relentlessly pursuing what he loved. Why did Dr. Berndt spend more than 40 years proving every result of the notebook? Ramanujan didn't write the proofs. He was that great and had an absurd level of mathematical intuition. Ramanujan's story is unique because he had no formal math background and never finished college. He was humbly self-taught. He did not fit in because of his greatness, so the system pushed him out. Fortunately, Ramanujan found Hardy, an English mathematician who believed in him and helped him get out of the "system" to work on his mathematics. What if Hardy never replied? Comparably, this is the story of many other Ramanujan-like people around the world who get pushed to the side because of their inability to fit in the assembly line educational system. Obsession and curiosity over well-roundedness are how geniuses are made. Ramanujan's moving story and astonishing mathematics made Dr. Berndt spend almost fifty years of his life proving every result in Ramanujan's Notebooks. And why one of the best experiences of Dr. Bernt's life was holding Ramanujan's slate, where Ramanujan spent countless hours doing mathematics. Moreover, Dr. Berndt is one of the greatest analytic number theorists, and while he recently retired, he continues to do research, and most of it is, of course, motivated by Ramanujan's work. Needless to say, Dr. Berndt truly encompasses the philosophy of every UIUC Talkshow guest, people who are sane in a way most people are crazy. We hope you can be as inspired by this conversation as we were. This week, our guest is Brian Neman, the CEO and Founder of Sanguine Biosciences, a company that joined the StartUp Health portfolio in 2018. Brian and his team first made a splash by bringing an at-home on-demand business model to specimen collection for clinical trials. Instead of having to get yourself to a lab, you tap a few buttons on your phone and a nurse shows up at your house to take your blood. That business has evolved significantly over the years, which we'll get into in the interview. But the spark for this interview had more to do with people than products. You see, Brian's company was just selected for the Forbes list of 100 Best Small Workplaces and top 10 in biopharma. Sanguine was also on Inc.'s list of fastest growing private companies, and Comparably named him on their list of best CEOs for women and for diversity in the workplace. In this interview, Brian will talk about how he cultivates company culture, particularly in an era of remote work – and he had loads of wisdom to share, so we hope you enjoy. Trade compliance body the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (Itac) should be empowered to conduct verification of products and services that have been designated under localisation regulations to ensure that South Africa gains the expected benefits of localisation, international trade consulting practice XA International Trade Advisors head of research Dr Clive Vinti said during a webinar on July 19. Since the development of the initial local procurement accords and regulations in 2011 and more recently in the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan, South Africa has identified local procurement as a primary policy to achieve industrial development in the country through the use of designation as one of the levers, he pointed out. In the initial Local Procurement Accords in 2011 and 2012, government committed to consult with businesses and industries on identifying products and services that could potentially be designated. Further, government also committed, as early as 2012, to measure the impact of designation on the relative competitiveness of designated products and its impact on job creation yearly. However, the Industrial Policy Action Plan is clear, and notes that there are no stringent legal or administrative measures to deal with noncompliance with localisation regulations and designations, and government is too uncoordinated, fragmented and institutionally weak to adequately monitor local content, Vinti said. The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC), in presentations to Parliament, has allocated R22-million for verification processes and the DTIC verified 74% of tenders in terms of localisation value, but only verified 10% of the total number of tenders in terms of localisation regulations. "It is clear there is a huge gap in terms of verification of local content compliance. There have been instances where companies have falsified local content declarations," Vinti said. Additionally, there are administrative justice challenges with current designation processes, as businesses are not aware when a product is being considered for designation, and only a National Treasury secular notice is sent out when a product or service is designated. It is also not clear what information and criteria were used to assess the viability of a product or service, and there are no review reports of the decisions, he noted. These challenges can be overcome by leveraging Itac and its expertise in verification in terms of trade policies and international treaty compliance. "We believe, as designation is significant, there must be a specific set of regulations for local content designation as a trade policy, and it must be administered similarly to other trade policies and regulations, such as anti-dumping measures," Vinti recommended. He said Itac was the most qualified body to administer local content designation and can ensure administrative justice in terms of fairness and lawfulness, as well as rationality by producing investigation reports. It is important to have complete transparency of the process of designating products, as there are cost impacts arising from designation, Vinti noted. A report by capital markets research and consulting firm Intellidex, commissioned by business organisations Business Unity South Africa and Business Leadership South Africa, showed that, if local content regulations were pushed through over the short term without due consideration for their impact, this would push prices of these products up by up to 20%. Comparably, a European Union study on the impact of renewable energy equipment localisation policies in South Africa found that prices in the renewable energy sector could increase by up to 10%, Vinti highlighted. The recent 2017 Preferential Procurement Policy Framework regulations have been challenged in court, but the declaration of invalidity of the regulations has been temporarily suspended. There are draft regulations expected this year, but i...

The evolution of Elsevier, one of the world's most storied publishing brands, into a global information and analytics company that helps institutions and professionals to push the boundaries of knowledge in science and healthcare, has been duly acknowledged and celebrated. However, to be truly enduring and convincing, the internal culture had to make a similar journey in order to attract and retain a different kind of employee. The results are equally transformational. Elsevier ranks in the top 10 for Best Global Company Culture by Comparably, the global workplace culture and compensation monitoring site, and is also represented in the 2020 50 Best Companies to Work for List, both in Best Companies for Women and Best Companies for Diversity.

On this podcast we talk a lot about sustainability and reframing the conversation around topics that seem sort of “certain.” It is said that the only things certain in life are death and taxes. Death, by definition, is not sustainable - or is it? In America, the funeral industry is costly and environmentally destructive. This is not the most comfortable conversation for many of us. We don't want to think about death. But, as my guest today, Sandy Gibson, founder of Better Place Forests, shares with us, death is a sacred part of life and when we reframe the conversation about the ritual of funerals in the context of creating a sacred space for remembering, we can explore healthier and more sustainable options for all the phases of life. Sandy Gibson is a man on a mission - a person with a clear Chief Aim and the passion and directive to fulfill it. I have to say that, while I was curious about having a conversation about the funeral industry and exploring more sustainable ways of honoring our loved ones, I was deeply impacted by Sandy's personal journey with death - and life. Obviously, the journey of processing a loss and turning it into some kind of greater purpose takes time. What Sandy so beautifully shared with his story is that tragedy, as painful as it can be in the moment - and the moments following - can also bring the seeds of purpose. Viktor Frankl, the Holocaust survivor and author of the book, Man's Search for Meaning, stated that “In some ways suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning.” Sandy Gibson has done just that. He has turned the narrative around grief into a conversation about the sacredness of loss and turned the business of dying into an act of honoring in a sustainable and sacred way. Perhaps the journey we take with death might seem less tragic if we fully embrace - with intent and purpose - the experience of Life. If you'd like to learn more about how to find your Chief Aim, please visit www.quantumalignmentsystem.com where you can discover who you are and why you're here. Thank you for joining me for Quantum Revolution. Sandy Gibson is the Co-Founder and CEO of Better Place Forests, a sustainable alternative to cemeteries for families who choose cremation. When Sandy was a young boy, he lost his father to a stroke and his mother to cancer. After years of visiting their graves in a dreary Toronto cemetery, Sandy began to imagine what a better place to remember his parents might look like. In 2015, he founded Better Place Forests with his two best friends to give every family the chance to visit and remember the people they love in nature. With a seemingly endless supply of options for any service or product, how do you make sure that yours rises above the noise? Better yet, as a buyer, how can you know which product or service is right for you? Today we are joined by Howard Brown, the Founder and CEO of ringDNA (now known as Revenue.io), an AI-powered platform that helps clients unlock revenue growth. Howard has also been listed as one of the 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs by Goldman Sachs, and a top CEO according to Comparably. With a strong background in clinical psychology, Howard's position on thought leadership comes from a deep understanding of the way people work and think. Howard shares his insights on thought leadership, how using TL internally can help your employees find strength, realize opportunities, and improve, so that they can deliver their best performance. As a CEO, Howard shares great advice for those who are just starting on the leadership journey. He delves into the how's and why's of using thought leadership internally and externally at your company, and what it means to be a CEO who understands thought leadership's purpose. In addition, we discuss "finding your superpower," and why being hyper-personalized with your message will better connect with a specific audience. Make sure they know you are speaking directly to them, and taking into account their individual needs! If you want to use thought leadership to tell a story and deliver value for your entire organization, this is a great episode for you. Three Key Takeaways: * As digital conversations replace more and more face-to-face ones, we need Thought Leadership to build those connections. Listen to your audience, pay attention to their needs, and create a sense of insight and vision. * When starting down the path of thought leadership, start by doing your research! It's important to truly understand what thought leadership is… and what it is not. * It can be tempting to create thought leadership for “everyone” because it's easy. Narrowcasting is much harder, but the ROI is greater - especially if you crack the code and reach the right audience for your insights.

We're learning from one another's mistakes, and we're learning from one another's successes.” -Ron Nelson [05:25] “One of the main things that I see that's problematic is managers rescheduling one-on-ones. And then that's the message you send to the SDRs. That this is not important. It's not a priority. You have to make that a priority.” -Ron Nelson [10:27] “This is really fun what we do. I enjoy what we do. And I want to hire people that have that same mindset.” -Ron Nelson [17:25] “If you're sharp, if you're polished, you got great tone, you sound like a professional, then you're already going to stand out from half of the people that are picking up the phone.” -Ron Nelson [23:13] “It's one thing to get the title.
