R&B and funk had been slow to take off in Australia, but when those genres really started to be embraced locally in the mid-'90s, a four-piece boy band from Melbourne were perfectly placed to become this country's pre-eminent vocal harmony group. All four original members of CDB (Andrew De Silva, Gary and Brad Pinto, and Danny Williams) join us to talk about how they slogged away on a scene that was just starting to take off and how a break providing backing vocals for Peter Andre was crucial in them securing their own record deal with Sony Music. With songs written by Andrew as a teenager, CDB were teamed up with established artists Paul Gray (from Wa Wa Nee) and Rockmelons to shape their sound into something commercial, with hits "Hook Me Up" and "Hey Girl (This Is Our Time)" following. But it was a remake of "Let's Groove" which propelled the group into the big league, with solid sales for debut album Glide With Me as a result. Second album Lifted, which showed a maturing of CDB's material with more songwriting input from other members, didn't perform as well despite featuring stellar tracks like "Good Times" and "Back Then". This was followed by Andrew's cancer diagnosis and departure from the group, and a missed opportunity for the second line-up, resulting in them disbanding. But you can't keep a good vocal group down, with CDB's more recent reunions highlighting the synergy the original four-piece has always had.Bonus material at chartbeats.com.au/aussieTwitter: @ChartBeatsAU, @TurnAroundOnJoyInstagram: @chartbeatsau, @joyturnbeataroundEmail: chartbeats.au@gmail.com

This is a real special one for me, as it should be for any fan of Texas rap. Salih Williams and his brothers have been a musical force on the Texas scene for many years, starting out with their family band that toured the Texas circuit way back in the day, to his rise around the turn of the century as the man behind MOST of the hits of the big Houston rap wave. "Still Tippin'," "Barre Baby," "Purple Stuff," "Power Up," "Back Then," um, any of those ring a bell? Salih Williams and his Carnival Beats literally formed a lot of the sounds you know and love from Houston and beyond from the early to mid-2000's, when everyone was crunk up off that H-Town sound. Crazy thing is Salih is from Luling, Texas, where he stays till this day amongst his family and closest people to him. His latest project is called Dirty Water and it's some extremely real blues. Incredible songwriting and it just don't stop. I have known him for years and learned a lot from this conversation. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making this. As always please subscribe and share and tell a friend to tell a friend. I appreciate YOU ALL! Please Follow PUSHERMANIA on Spotify as I am about to drop the ultimate Carnival Beats/Salih Williams/Dirty Water/Latasha Lee and the Black Ties play list on THE PEOPLE!

After her last piece kept things deliberately vague, Hana committed to writing a piece that was heavy on the detail and specifics. This week's piece is written from the perspective of a young woman unsure of her life's path and wavering on a momentous decision: to have children or not. Hana blends her own experiences and thoughts with those of friends to develop a story that is familiar, while being careful to double check her facts. Originally recorded September 20, 2020. Bethany takes a breath and starts to read, “Once upon a time, there was a little girl who-” “No! I said I wanted the other story, the one from the Today Times, not a Back-Then story,” Eleanor crosses her arms and pouts up at the older girl. It's getting toward the end of their bedtime ritual, but Eleanor has been in a fussy mood all evening, demanding more hugs and treats than her usual happy-go-lucky demeanor suggests. Her parents have been preparing for the upcoming trip to the hospital, packing a bag for her mom and putting the final touches on the bedroom next to hers. Clearly, though she has no idea how much her life will change shortly, Eleanor feels the excitement and tension in the air. She wavers back and forth between gloriously happy anticipation and a frantic desire for everything to remain the same. Being a four year old on the cusp of sisterhood isn't easy. Bethany pulls out the picture book with a sprightly redheaded girl on its cover and begins to read the well-worn story yet again. As she recites lines memorized from repeated performances, she steals covert glaces at the little girl lying in her parents' big double bed. Whenever they're out for the night, Eleanor insists on sleeping in their bed so that she'll “greet” them when they get home, though she almost never wakes up while being carried back to her own bed down the hall. As if on cue, Eleanor's eyes start to drift shut on the fifth page. Bethany wonders if there's a Pavlovian response at work, given how often they read the Pippi Longstocking story and the fact that Eleanor falls asleep at exactly the same point in the story every time. She makes a mental note to bring the topic up in her History of Behavior Therapy class next week. Once Eleanor is soundly asleep, Bethany stands up, careful not to shake the bed, and leaves the room, closing it until just a crack remains. She walks down the stairs of the darkened house, guided by familiarity and the glimmer of light coming from a lamp in the family room. Her feet avoid the various scattered toys by instinct. Grabbing a Coke from the refrigerator (Paul and Marion keep their kitchen well stocked, knowing how much a college student appreciates free food), Bethany makes her way to the couch in the family room, where a pile of textbooks, handouts, and notepads sits. She sighs inwardly, thinking that she'd love to just enjoy the peace and quiet until the Camford-Strahofskis get home from their weekly date. When Bethany decided that she wanted to attend a huge state university two days' drive from home, her parents immediately started calling around to friends to find a surrogate family for her. That's how the nannying job with Eleanor came about and she's grateful for the stability and spending money it provides. Plus, with Paul and Marion being on the faculty at the university, she knows they understand the college student perspective more than most - though their positions in Economics and Sports Marketing bear no relation to her chosen major, Psychology. Not only does she have a second home outside the dorms at the Camhofski residence, she also appreciates getting an up-close and personal look at the life of two hard-working professionals juggling family and career demands. Now that she's in her fourth year of college, choices of job and family seem to be more consequential and concrete than ever before. If only the correct choices were as easy and clear to figure out as...
Ohhh... 20/20 hindsight's fun, right? So much wisdom, but so much of it comes to you too late to apply it to your own situation. Which is why I decided to create this very episode! There are so many things I figured out so late in my business that would have made my life so much easier (and the business so much more profile) if I'd just done them BACK THEN.But rather than beating myself up about it, I'm going to pay this wisdom forward in the hopes it helps you avoid some of the classic early-biz and brand-building mistakes I made!MORE RESOURCESThe Magnetic Brand Quizhttps://magneticbrand.co/quizThe Magnetic Monthly Marketing Planhttps://magneticbrand.co/marketing-planWORK WITH ME1:1 Brand Coachinghttps://magneticbrand.co/brand-coachingStrategy Intensiveshttps://magneticbrand.co/brand-strategyMini Courseshttps://magneticbrand.co/coursesCONNECT WITH MEInstagram: @iamkatelizabethLinkedIn: Kat ElizabethYouTube: KatElizabethWebsite: magneticbrand.coEmail: kat@magneticbrand.co
"Whatcha gonna do when you get out of jail?" "I'm gonna buy some CoD!" In one of the more bizarre gaming news stories on the show, Bruno & Nick breakdown the play-by-play action when a prison escapee in the UK got sent back when he was caught on a walk to buy Call of Duty. Next, the simultaneous good and bad news of Super Nintendo World launching this month in Japan (but also being delayed until 2025 in the USA) prompts a conversation between the guys about how difficult it to squeeze in everything you want to do into an Orlando, Florida family vacation. After Nick reveals how he was inadvertently subjected to child labor on a 90's cruise ship as a stage performer, the news of Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda/Zenimax being finalized brings out some juicy rumors about what kind of Game Pass additions might be announced in the coming week. Finally, in our Bonus Round, Nick interviews Ruben Pereira from Outriders Studio, part of the team creating the upcoming game "Back Then". As the game is centered around a protagonist with Alzheimer's disease, a fascinating discussion unfolds as to how and why the game was conceptualized, and how the team is trying to increase awareness about the incurable mental disease. Rhonda Morman stop by WowPodcast to speak with Darshaun about her latest book Coming up Short. Join us for the conversation. To learn more about Rhonda check out https://linktr.ee/iamrhondamorman Rhonda Morman is a NAACP nominated Best-Supporting actress and Los Angeles native known for her role in the NAACP award-winning stage play, Sunday Mourning (2012). Rhonda has overcome adversity and defied odds since the age of seven when she tragically suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. But God had other plans. After being confined to a wheelchair and told that she would never walk again, she miraculously re-took her first steps at the age of eleven: steps that led to the entertainment business. This same spitfire determination that fueled Rhonda as an adolescent continues to propel her forward even today. Her dream began to materialize when she was accepted into the Van Nuys High School of Performing Arts, where she acquired the foundation of a promising acting career. And the stage is where she developed her acting chops. Soon Rhonda became involved with stage productions such as Body Language, Momma Christine's Colored Girls and Sweet Evalina. Since then, she has starred in prominent theatrical stage play roles such as For Colored Girls who have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf, Love Buddies, The Conversation, Blue God, Nylons, Angry Insecure Men, Save Us and The Things That Make Men Cry, just to name a few. Rhonda's directorial debut for the world premiere stage play, His Dreams Her Goals (2013), which is currently on Amazon Prime. This paved the way for her directing role in the NAACP Theater Festival in 2014. Another notable achievement marked in Rhonda's career was the co-production of the 2011 political-comedic film, The Average American, where she also played the lead. She had the pleasure of experiencing this film's acceptance into multiple film festivals while being broadcast, nationally, on network television. She became a master of balancing her talents and time by becoming a second assistant director or producer on several television and film projects such as Back Then and The Sweetest Heir. When not serving as an assistant director or producer, Rhonda honed her acting craft with roles in television shows such as, The Secret Closet, Unofficially:Home, and In The Cut (Bounce TV). She is as fascinated with short films as she is with television and theater. She successfully filmed several short films including Past Tense, Silent Screams, Paradise Inn, Conflicted, Brakedown, and The Proposal, which earned her a nomination as Best Leading Actress in the Charlotte Film Festival (2016). Beyond the stage, film, and television, Rhonda has also been involved in several industrial films, commercials, and print ads. She has expanded her expertise to the web series realm by taking on roles in Wendy + Julian, a web series produced by Dennis Dortch of Black & Sexy TV, and The Choir, a web series written and produced by Issa Rae and Alright TV. She was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the LA Webfest for her reoccurring roles for two web series, What Men Want, and Black Boots, winning the award for the latter. More recently, she starred in the feature films, Bluest Moon (Amazon Prime), CainAbel (Amazon Prime), OLE Bryce and Stolen Breath the Truth Revealed. Rhonda also had supporting roles in feature films such as Her Little Secret, The Choir Director, Throwback Holiday and The Runners. Bringing more light to an amazing journey, she played the role of Delphine, an heroin addict, opposite of Loretta Devine in The Lost Souls Cafe, written and directed by Donald Welch, which
When is It Not Good To Forget and remember in the right way We all have things/events in our past we would live to forget as if they never happened. As we think of them, remember them we still feel that negative emotion, in other words- still feel bad. Now as a hypnotist I could make them disappear. I could but I wouldn't. Now you might be fooled into thinking well if you can make these memories disappear that would be a good thing but there are good reasons why they are still affecting you and there's a very real positive intent behind them. We'll go through all this and learn when we learn from these events they will lose their negative charge and be 'It was not good BACK THEN but it doesn't affect me anymore' And hey, we break this down into simple ways to do this and as you know it's a doing thing not just a listening thing so, please listen then practice what you hear - it won't be perfect but it can be permanent so practice well my friend and you could get wonderful results with little effort, you only have to apply The Will To Do Whatever It Takes. We moving up in the world as my boy Picaso Famouz comes thru to promote his new hot single track "Back Then" busting the charts of youtube. We then talk about the fashion and the flavor that comes with being a rapper in todays society as well as the troll game. Then we break down the rules of getting money and being black in Beverly Hills and how to invest you money wisely
We are back at it again with another episode. This time we reflect on our "Gayby" selves. Jess brought this topic to the table to be DIC'd down after she had a conversation with a "Gayby" who had so many questions and so few answers. That got us to thinking about our younger selves, the questions we had, and if maybe we can provide some answers to those questions and worries we had back then.In this episode we identify ONE word to describe and (d)efine our younger gay selves and what that word meant to us BACK THEN and NOW. We also explore what we would say to our younger gay selves NOW that we’ve lived a little. Then we dive into the (i)mpact of what it was like to be our younger gay selves under the definition we stated above, discuss the things we had going for us and the things perceived we needed.Lastly, we discuss how we can (c)ope in the present.Feel free to pause throughout the sections to give yourself time to answer and jot down any thoughts that come up. Join us this Sunday August 9th at 9:30/6:30 PM ( ET/PT) for our "After Podcast" where we break down this topic on IG LIVE and have the conversation with you!Oh, and as always, if you vibe, we tribe! The Old Testament is a story desperate for a conclusion. This introductory message to the book of Chronicles demonstrates that the story finds its fulfillment in Jesus. Series: Never Too Late, Speaker: Pastor Don Dodge, Scripture: 2 Chronicles 36:23, 2 Chronicles 7:13-15, Matthew 1:1, John 1:1, John 1:14, Video: https://www.facebook.com/avalonchurch/videos/1007829879649744/, Sermon page: https://www.avalonchurch.org/sermons/never-too-late-hope-part-1/, Sermon Notes: 2020-07-19_never-too-late-part-1_sermon-notes.pdf, Discussion Questions: 2020-07-19_never-too-late-part-1_discussion-questions.pdf, Notes: I’d like to begin today reading the story of Audrey Mahn, Her and her husband Rich have done so much to help us communicate to you during this COVID pandemic. Audrey’s story is powerful, And common throughout the world. Audrey’s Story I was born in a small city in China. Most were Buddhist. There were no Christians around me. Though my family was not Buddhist, we had Buddha statues at home. Sometimes we would pray to them. When I was 9 or 10 years old, I liked going out on our balcony and looking at the sky and other buildings and I would talk to God. I didn’t know how I knew there was a God at that time, but when I had troubles, I prayed to him... or at least made a wish. During this time, my dad also had a friend who claimed to have supernatural power. He called it a “third eye” on his forehead, and said he could see and do supernatural things. This man’s daughter and I played together and pretended to have “third eye” power. When I was around 13, my mom began practicing a new cult religion emphasizing the supernatural. I was innocent and naïve and would join my mom and practice this for fun. However, when I was around 15 years old, I began hearing a voice and had destructive, evil, even suicidal thoughts. I tried to resist, but the voice and the thoughts tortured me. I felt so helpless. I couldn’t sleep at night because my heart beat so fast. I read lots of psychology and philosophy books. I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I thought it was a battle of my will... and I was losing. It was much later I learned that this was a spiritual battle between good and evil. When I went to college, I chose English as my major. Part of learning western culture was reading the Bible. I was even invited to a bible study, and that’s where I decided to become a Christian. That summer I was invited to stay with an American friend, Hannah, who was living in China. One night I shared with her my experiences of hearing that voice and fighting against those evil thoughts; how I felt this spiritual oppression and was scared. She noted that “I couldn’t even look her in the eyes.” We prayed in Jesus name that God would free me. Hannah called a friend of ours, Pauline, an American who was a Christian psychologist. Pauline invited me to kneel and confess my sins; to forgive those in my life who hurt me. I prayed and invited the Holy Spirit to come and occupy every area of my heart. We prayed for 2 hours. I was shaking and felt this battle inside me. Pauline asked for the demon’s name and I heard a voice inside say an English name that none of us recognized. We looked it up in the dictionary and the word meant “the third eye,” that supernatural power I practiced as a child. It was then when that power left me. It was an immediate change. I looked at the mirror and saw the light in my eyes return. And I could look straight to my friends’ eyes. I felt so free. God set me free and broke the chains on me. I had been tortured by evil for 7 years. I had no hope, but now God had saved me. He had a great plan for me and I could now live for him and tell his story so others would know God could change their life, too. INTRO We’re starting a new series called “Never Too Late” For the next 5 weeks, we’re going to look at some stories from the book of 2 Chronicles ...where God unexpectedly got a hold of someone’s heart, And their life was changed forever. My hope is that some of your stories will be shared, too. ...We have some great stories in our church-family. Whether you write them out or record a video, I think it would be encouraging for all of us to hear each others stories ...of how God has transformed, ...and is continuing to transform people’s lives. We’ve set up a webpage for you to share your story. AvalonChurch.org/Stories You can write it out, You can share a video. Whatever you want. That way we can all read what God has done, ...and I’d like to share a story each week As we look at various stories in 2 Chronicles. God Background Before jumping in, I need to frame the book of Chronicles, ...Because every story leads to a singular purpose, ...Hope. You may be aware that in our OT, 1-2 Chronicles follows the books of Samuel and Kings, ...and to the frustration of many readers, ...And after 9 chapters of genealogies, It repeats a lot content from both of those books. So often, when people realize they’ve already read some of these stories before, ...they just skip these books. Which is a shame. Because Chronicles is doing something very different than The books of Samuel and Kings. Which is much more obvious to Jewish readers. ...Because the books in our OT Are in a different order than the Hebrew Bible of the Jews. In our Bible, Chronicles is right in the middle of all the historical books. But in the Hebrew Bible, Chronicles is the very last book. The reason is that Chronicles is one of the last of the OT books that were written. The books of 1-2 Chronicles were always read as 1 book; But they couldn’t fit on just 1 scroll, ...so Chronicles Scroll 1 and 2. Chronicles summarizes the entire story of God. It chronicles the story, ...Starting with Adam and Abraham and Moses, And then King David, And when Israel split into 2 kingdoms. And it touches a little on the N. Kingdom’s destruction, ...but really focuses on the S. Kingdom, David’s kingdom, Before and after it was defeated by Babylon. . eventual destruction of the North all the way through the Jewish exile and return. Why do I tell you all this? Because when Babylon captured Jerusalem And destroyed the Temple, ...It looked like the end of the Jewish people, ...And the end of YHWH’s story. Yet, God, through his prophets, continued to offer hope that one day they would return home. Exiles returning was unprecedented. But the prophets promised ...Jerusalem would be restored, ...And the temple would be rebuilt. And that God would again live among them, And that Messiah would rule as God’s anointed king, ...that he would take back what they had lost ...and that all nations would come and live under his rule. This was the promise as Jerusalem lied in rubble. And as the people made new homes in Babylon. So around 50-60 years later, When the kingdom of Persia defeated Babylon, ...And when Cyrus, King of Persia allowed the Jewish exiles to return home, They saw the beginning of the fulfillment Of those prophetic promises. And that is what the book of Chronicles is all about. When it was written, Jews had been living back in the Promised Land for generations. Yet, none of the other promises had been fulfilled. There was no Messiah. The rebuilt temple was just a shadow of the first temple. And they were still under foreign control. So the writer of Chronicles retold and reshaped the stories of the past. They wanted to rekindle hope for the future, The hope for the coming Messianic King. The One who would come from the line of David. So the focus of Chronicles is exclusively on the kings from David’s lineage. Every story is a story pointing towards hope. That David was a good king, And the coming Messiah was going to be like David, ...But even better! Everything was written to help the Jewish people learn from their family history ...To prepare themselves for the coming Messiah. This is true even to the very last line. It’s a quote from Cyrus, The Persian king, after defeating Babylon. He said, “Whoever is among you of all his people, may the Lord his God be with him. Let him go up...” (2 Chronicles 36:23, ESV). And it literally ends with an incomplete sentence. It ends in expectation. Of course, the writer of Chronicles knew what happened when the Jews returned home. He knew the book of Ezra about rebuilding the 2nd Temple And the book of Nehemiah about rebuilding the wall. But clearly these were not seen as fulfillment of the prophetic hope. For the author, hope is set on another return from exile When Messiah will finally come, ...when the temple will be rebuilt, ...And God’s people will be restored. The book of Chronicles, And the entire Hebrew Scriptures, ...end by pointing forward. The OT story is a story that is incomplete. It ends unfulfilled, ...It’s like a show that is “to be continued.” And Chronicles wants the people to know: God is not done. God has a plan to finish what he started. God is brining restoration. And like he did in the past, God is inviting you and me back to him. This is a theme that occurs over and over in the book. We see it in the famous passage ...Where the Lord appeared to Solomon at the inauguration of the 1st temple, ...and said... “13 At times I might shut up the heavens so that no rain falls, or command grasshoppers to devour your crops, or send plagues among you. 14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 15 My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place. --2 Chronicles 7:13-15 (NLT) It’s never too late. I will never forget you. You have freedom to run from me. You have freedom to reject me. ...But I will always be here. ...Always inviting, ...always willing to restore our relationship, ...And welcome you home. That’s good news! That’s the invitation for all of us. And that’s the promise that Chronicles points to, ...That God will finally bring peace and restoration to the world ...through this king from the line of David, ...Through this Messiah. That’s why the Gospel of Matthew begins with a genealogy. 1This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham: --Matt 1:1 (NLT) It’s saying, The One you’ve been waiting for, The One who would fulfill all of the promises of the Prophets, ...He is here. ...His name is Jesus. The Messianic King from the line of David. This is why the Gospel of John begins: 1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.... 14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. –John 1:1,14 (NLT) The disciples of Jesus knew their Hebrew Bible. They knew the promises. And they wanted to make sure everyone knew ...The promises of the Hebrew Scriptures Were all fulfilled in Jesus. You (Application. So What?) And what does that mean for us? You, too, are made for a purpose. You, too, are desired by God. ...And that he came, suffered, died, and rose again, ...for you. You have not gone too far. It’s never too late. God used the writer of Chronicles to spread hope. And to tell God’s story BACK THEN. ...he wants you to do the same... NOW. ...To share the story that it’s never too late. So during this series, As I share stories from the past, ...I pray you will share your stories of what God has done in your life. AvalonChurch.org/Stories You can write it out. You can post a video. But tell God’s story. Share how it’s never too late to say yes to him, ...and find life in him. (Pray) We (Closing and Challenge) Action Steps: crushed Salvation. The crew talked about some recent news that show some examples of people you may know of showcasing ways to further brand themselves...so to speak. Rapper, 'Lil Baby' is providing his cell number for fans to receive news about his music and shows. Mike Jones helped make sure as many people as possible knew his name by rapping (281) 330-8004 in his 2005 song "Back Then." Other artists, like Solange, have also offered seven digits as a way to directly interact with their fans. Lil Baby is preparing to drop his My Turn album. Tune-in to find out the number! Eric Adams, the first African-American to hold the office of BP, has partnered the Hip Hop is Green (HHIG) organization to put on the first-ever Brooklyn Healthy Rap Battle where Brooklyn youth will compose original rhymes about health and wellness as well as the benefits of living a plant-based lifestyle. Taking a page out of Forever First Lady Michelle Obama's 2010 Let's Move! campaign and a little bit from Dr. Oz and Doug E. Fresh's initiative celebrated through the song "Everybody," Adam is hoping the remixing his outreach with some a rap aesthetic will help shift eating habits for a community plagued with food deserts, Crown chicken spots, and cheap Chinese foods. Find out more about this event to get involved! T-Pain put his shrewd business skills to use when he defended his brand name from a troll trying to disparage his name. An unknown person bought the domain name FuckTpain.com to annoy the world-famous rapper, who also hosts the hit TV show "T-Pain's School of Business" on Fuse. Instead of trying to take it down and hurt the person that put time into making the site, he simply purchased it from them and now all the profit comes to him. Wow. What a way to extend your reach! Social media is on fire after Boosie voiced his opinions on Dwyane Wade’s 12-year-old transgender daughter, Zaya. If you know anything about Boosie, then you should already know that his comments were far from politically correct, as he spoke openly about being against gender reassignment as such a young age. You have to tune in to listen to this! Check out what this week, "HOT TAKE" topic was as well! We got you covered with the latest!

Well, what a weekend. A new President for the country started his 4 year bid, millions of women marched around the globe - the women's march. Can you believe Madonna sang in that tribute, I'm not your b i t c h, don't hang your sh*t on me, and she said the big phuck you TWICE. Oh, yeah, the Green Bay Packers were beat by the Atlanta Falcons and New England held the Steelers from getting to the Superbowl in two weeks - Falcons verses the Patriots, I think in Houston. And I think the new President listens to the show, because he said - RIGHT THERE, BACK THEN, but it came out like KINGS IN THE MORNING - Right Here, Right now.
