A lavender 1957 Chevy Nomad steals the spotlight at our Tailpipes and Tacos Cruise Inn broadcast from Lupe' Tortilla Tex-Mex in Katy, Texas. Owner Jim Craven shares his three-year journey with this head-turning classic, detailing what makes a Nomad special beyond just being a two-door station wagon - from the angled window pillars to the nine distinctive grooves on the car's top.Under the hood, this beauty houses a monstrous 502 cubic inch crate motor with dual four-barrel carburetors that, in Jim's words, "will lay rubber in second and third gear." While Jim initially had reservations about the lavender paint when buying sight unseen, it's now the car's most celebrated feature, routinely earning trophies and starting conversations at every show. What resonates most is Jim's refreshing philosophy about classic car ownership. Unlike those who treat vehicles as untouchable museum pieces, he drives his Nomad regularly, believing classics should be enjoyed rather than preserved as "garage queens." This approach has made him and his distinctive vehicle fixtures in the local car community. We also take listeners through fascinating automotive milestones in our "This Week in Auto History" segment, from the Jeep's 1941 military debut to the Ford Mustang's landmark introduction at the 1964 New York World's Fair. Plus, we decode mysterious car acronyms (did you know RAV4 stands for "Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive"?) and highlight game-changing supplier innovations like anti-lock brakes and touchscreens that transformed how we experience automobiles.Don't miss our upcoming broadcast from the Hot Rod Tour of Texas! Peering behind the curtain of modern automotive manufacturing reveals a complex web of global dependencies that few consumers ever consider. Our deep dive into recent recalls uncovers how Tesla's futuristic Cybertruck faces very traditional manufacturing challenges, with nearly all 46,096 produced in the first 15 months being recalled for detaching exterior panels. This highlights the industry's increasing reliance on adhesives rather than mechanical fastening—a practice that proves problematic when vehicles bake in scorching parking lots. The revelation that Ford produces hundreds of thousands of F-Series Super Duty pickups on American soil while sourcing every single engine from Canada or Mexico exposes the vulnerability of cross-border manufacturing arrangements. With potential tariffs looming, Ford faces a potential crisis costing up to $75,000 in duties per truckload of engines. This situation illustrates how interconnected North American manufacturing has become and the cascading effects that policy changes could trigger. Our weekly Hemmings used car auction segment reveals fascinating insights into the collector market. A 1967 Ford Mustang restomod selling for $18,900 might seem reasonable, but the $38,325 commanded by a stock 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air demonstrates the enduring appeal of untouched American classics. Meanwhile, the presidential limousine known as "The Beast" is getting an upgrade, with the Secret Service conferring with GM on the next generation of this rolling fortress. From industry partnerships between unlikely allies like Hyundai and General Motors to the struggles of Stellantis offering buyouts worth up to $72,000 to hourly workers, we track the evolving landscape of automotive manufacturing. Guest email: Hello Doug, my name is Jonathan. We are from central Washington State. My daughter Sydney and I just finished restoring her 1967 mustang coupe in the spring of 2024 just before her wedding. It was a full rotisserie ground up build. We had to replace quarter panels, floor pans, doors and several other things. It's a c-code 289 2-v but we updated with fuel injection, Borgeson power steering, air conditioning, all new wiring and many other updates. We made our own paint booth to paint it inside our shop. This mustang was originally my dad's, and I drove it in high school and college. My dad also has 1966 and 1968 mustangs too. Ford has introduced the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, a tribute to the iconic American car that has been part of American culture since 1965. This week, we have an exclusive interview with an expert on the car. We caught up with Brandon Turkus, Ford's Enthusiast Vehicles Communications Manager, at the Chicago Auto Show for the inside scoop on the vehicle Ford calls the fastest production Mustang ever built. The model honors the American spirit of ingenuity and perseverance, as well as the 60 years of Mustang achievement. The Mustang GTD Spirit of America features exposed carbon fiber aerodynamic elements and unique exterior trims. The all-new 2025 Mustang GTD sets a new performance bar with 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque, and a top speed of 202 miles per hour. And that's only the beginning of the story. We'll have much more in this episode. In the news this week, a reliable report says Chevrolet plans to drop one of its conventionally powered SUVs from the U.S. market after this model year while emphasizing the battery-electric version. We'll tell you which one and the surprising place where the gas model will continue to be sold. Elon Musk has announced that Tesla will launch its robotaxi service much earlier than expected, and we'll have details on that. A new electric vehicle charging network has just gone into business, just as automakers call for the resumption of work on the federally sponsored EV charging infrastructure, which has built a paltry number of charging stations so far. You might be sick of tariff talk, but the Administration has announced tariffs on steel and aluminum that could have an impact on what you pay for your next car. We'll have our thoughts. On the road test front, Host Jack Nerad will put the 2025 Mazda3 through its paces. His test car was equipped with an increasingly rare piece of kit — a six-speed manual transmission, and Nerad will tell how he liked the car on a 500-mile round trip to the Central California coast. Meanwhile, on the other coast, Co-Host Chris Teague road-tested the all-new version of the Nissan Kicks small crossover SUV, and he'll have his report. Si eres fan de los deportivos "Made in USA"...

What if “The Law of Attraction” was only for Aryans? Just in time for the holidays, Brad is back to let you know that Nazi-occult societies are alive and flourishing. Namely, a group claiming to be the direct genetic descendants of the “historical” Vril Society, the supposed Nazi-era metaphysical group that counted Hitler among its ranks. This episode has esoteric racism, templar LARPing, goddess rituals, hollow earth super Aryans, hairstyle discourse, a Ford Mustang obsession, and even starseeds. It's a true QAA Xmas miracle. We'll attempt to answer: How much of the WWII occult history is real? What's the real history of the Sonnenrad symbol? Are these contemporary groups just conspiratorial LARPers with too much time and money (and a serious hair fetish), or something much more sinister? And finally, did we really need to hear that bit of high school-era Brad lore? Stick around for Professor Julian Strube of the University of Göttingen - a man who has spent the best years of his life researching these groups - as he helps us untangle this dense web of Nazi occult history, and how we've gotten to this current hell. Ford Mustang, Ford Mustang… ¿A qué me refiero?
