Read OnlineBut the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall name him John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord.” Luke 1:13–15Unlike Saint Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary, Zechariah doubted the angel of the Lord's revelation. Our Blessed Mother encountered the Archangel Gabriel at the Annunciation and responded, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, and when Joseph awoke, “he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him” (Matthew 1:24).Today, we are given a similar scene to ponder. Zechariah and Elizabeth are identified as being “righteous in the eyes of God, observing all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly” (Luke 1:6). In other words, Zechariah was a holy man of God. While he was standing at the altar of incense located in the Holy Place, just outside the veil of the Holy of Holies, the Archangel Gabriel appeared to him to announce that his wife had conceived a child in her old age. Gabriel further reveals, “He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb, and he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God” (Luke 1:15–16).Given Zechariah's personal holiness and the extraordinary revelation he received from Gabriel, he should have believed what Gabriel said without hesitation. When he failed to do so, Gabriel said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stand before God. I was sent to speak to you and to announce to you this good news. But now you will be speechless and unable to talk until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words…” (Luke 1:19–20).This chastisement was clearly for Zechariah's benefit. Despite his lack of faith, God wanted him to participate in His divine plan of salvation. The chastisement was not a punishment in a punitive way. It was meant to instill greater faith in him, and it accomplished its purpose. Most of us are more like Zechariah than we are like our Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph. Despite our best intentions and attempts to remain faithful to God's will, we stumble. When that happens, we must see any consequences as a gift of love from God. Chastisements come in many forms. They are meant to wake us up to a greater obedience to God's will. Reflect today on any ways that your sins have resulted in consequences. It takes deep humility to admit our sins and take responsibility for their effects. Though it is easy to be angry, to point the finger elsewhere, and to justify our actions, doing so is a rejection of God's loving chastisement meant for our good. Strive to imitate Zecharaiah by humbly changing when your sin results in consequences so that God can bring good into your life, even from a lack of faith and obedience to His will. Most merciful Lord, You chastise those whom You love so as to redirect them to Your holy will. When I sin, please help me to accept the consequences with humility and as a motivation to turn back to You in fidelity and love. Please make me holy in imitation of Zechariah, Saint Joseph, and our Blessed Mother. We believe that the balance, or as we call it the "radical middle" between Word and Spirit isn't found through treating them like opposing forces. Rather, it's found through pursuing both fully and deeply. We want the full counsel of the Word of God. We want you to be biblically literate, equipped to rightly divide the Word for yourself. We also want the Holy Spirit to move in power, unhindered and unquenched in our lives, and we want you to see His miraculous power at work. It's easy to feel theologically homeless when you have a hunger for the Word, an appreciation for church history and liturgy, yet see the lack of spiritual depth in many churches. We also know how stifling it can feel to know there is more to experience of God's power in your life, but have so few balanced voices to learn from. The Remnant Radio was born out of our own hunger for challenging conversations,  theological depth, and a desire to experience all that God has for us!

JOHN 12:1-13 - WALKING WITH JESUS - BRIAN SUMNER - 2025JOHN 12:1 "Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. 2 There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. 3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.4 But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who would betray Him, said, 5 “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” 6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.7 But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. 8 For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.”The Plot to Kill Lazarus9 Now a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also, 11 because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus. The Triumphal Entry12 The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out:“Hosanna!‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!'The King of Israel!”To support this channel and partner with Brian in Ministryhttps://www.briansumner.net/support/For more on Brianhttp://www.briansumner.nethttps://www.instagram.com/BRIANSUMNER/https://www.facebook.com/BRIANSUMNEROFFICIALTo listen to Brians Podcast, click below.https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...Purchase Brians Marriage book at https://www.amazon.com/Never-Fails-Da...Brian is a full time "Urban Missionary" both locally and internationally with a focus on MISSIONS - MARRIAGES - MINISTRY. Since coming to faith in 2004 doors continued opening locally and internationally to do more and more ministry with a focus on Evangelism, Outreach Missions, Marriage, Counsel, Schools, Festivals, Conferences and the like.  Everything about this ministry is made possible because of people personally partnering through the non profit. God Bless and thank you. †Support the showSUPPORT THE SHOW

Gospel Matthew 1:18-25 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly. Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home. He had no relations with her until she bore a son, and he named him Jesus. Reflection Two people living an ordinary life fell in love and decided to get married. And before their marriage could take place, even though they were betrothed, which is like a commitment to be married, Mary receives this extraordinary message. And when you think about it, what was she doing? Imagining if this could actually happen to her? I mean, I find it fascinating because she was no different than the rest of us. In one sense, she was human. Yes, she was free of sin, but she was a human being with the same fears and wonders and worries. She hears this news and Joseph hears it, and he understands. How clearer could it be that the coming of Jesus into your life and mine comes in ordinary ways? When we simply have to say to ourselves and to God, I accept, I believe I will become part of what you want me to be a part of. It's a gift called faith, and it means everything. Closing Prayer Father, the extraordinary is consistently coming to us through the ordinary. Help us to be attentive, to listen, to wonder, and to believe that things happen in a way that they have so much more meaning than we thought. So give us the wisdom to discern all that is happening in our world, in our life. And we ask this in Jesus' name, Amen. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com      NOW LETS LOOK A LITTLE FURTHER INTO THE TEXT IN LUKE 1 26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” 29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35 Then the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you [like a shining cloud]; and so the holy (pure, sinless) Thing (Offspring) which shall be born of you will be called the Son of God. 36 And listen! Your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is now the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment. 38 Then Mary said, Behold, I am the handmaiden of the Lord; let it be done to me according to what you have said. And the angel left her.     The Whole Christmas story is filled with fear… and Wonder… but fear none the less Angel to Zach “Don't be afraid” Angel to Joseph “Don't be afraid” Angel to Mary “Don't be afraid” Angel to Shepherds “Don't be afraid”   It seems to me that sometimes when God is at his finest work we might be a little afraid when we do not understand how or why!  A PLAN OF EPIC PROPORTIONS… and yet people are still afraid. Wether they know him or not, trust him or not - there was fear they had to overcome.  Zach did not believe Mary did believe - but both came with fear   Both Zach and Mary had doubt… but Zach got zapped… why not Mary? I have an idea… v. LK.1:38 Behold I am a servant of God… Zachariah was a priest… head knowledge, but not much heart knowledge. Mary not much head knowledge, but great heart knowledge.    *Mary did not ask in doubt, but rather with the intent of … ok, so go on, what further instruction do I need to know.  Zach said let me tell you why this won't happen. Mary said… how will this happen?

Episode Summary: Christians often think theology is only for scholars or the spiritually elite. But this simply isn’t true. While theology is, in one sense, an academic discipline, it can also be understood as the art of knowing our creator. God invites us to know him, as we are fully known by him. Theology goes beyond the study of the character of God, and into the art of knowing the One who already knows and intimately loves His believers. Flash Theology leads readers through thirty-one bite-size truths, highlighting key aspects of who God is and what that means for the reader. Theology is important for everyone, but if it’s too dense, it can be hard to digest. Today we’re going to talk about biblical literacy and why it’s important to learn who God is. Quotables from the episode: We all carry a theological bias. So, we all enter into a variety of conversations and our own circumstances within our life, carrying a bias towards who we think God is. And that is based on a whole bunch of different things, how we are raised, different things you hear over time, the media you consume, the church you attend, all these different facets of how we view God and the way we absorb information can help us view God biblically or not biblically at all. I believe the Westernized church and social media has created a self-help gospel that is void of God’s truth. That word is associated, as you already mentioned, is associated with academics and scholars. So, there is kind of hefty price tag to it, but theology is simply the study of God. So, then if you open up the Bible, you are studying the Christian God. So, everybody that opens up the Bible is a “theologian.” Now of course there are the academic theologians but I like to say we're all theologians and we should take ownership of that because that helps us realize it is a worthy pursuit to understand God and his text. We miss out on so much because we're leaving it to those that are called to lead us, right? We're saying, okay, which is good. We should trust our leaders, but we should also question if something actually biblically accurate? I love if I go to teach the Bible somewhere. I love when people do their digging afterwards and make sure that I actually taught the text properly. We should have a hunger and an understanding to pursue a depth of who God is, and that's not always going to be accurate in the different areas of consumption, like those 20 -second reels on social media that we come across. Through Genesis to Revelation, there's a line of scripture that's happening, and it is revealing Christ all throughout scripture, who Christ is, is being revealed. God knows us already, right? So it's really this question of do we embrace the fact that he fully knows us? Do we understand the depth of his love? And I can only imagine that it's a consistently, we're walking out understanding the depths of his love until we're face to face with Jesus. **So when we can embrace the truth that we are fully known by a God who loves us, by a God that is for us, by a God that knows the beginning from the end, it creates this stabilizing truth in our life that will carry us when our circumstances are out of control, when the world feels like it's mass chaos, when something comes at us, when we're not prepared, like there is a stabilizing truth that God is good, He is sovereign, He is my Savior (for those that declare Christ as their Lord and Savior.) And that stabilizing truth in itself is something that will help you continue to move forward until we are again face to face with Jesus. God has always fully known us. And when we can really start to accept that and receive that, I think that's when we really start to live in the abundant life that Jesus came to give. Who else loves us despite knowing our every fault? Nobody but God. I think that's really the stepping stone to walk into that abundant life that Jesus came to give. One of the biggest wrestling matches I’ve seen in ministry is people understanding God as Father. Sometimes we have to have this wrestling match with the Holy Spirit to be able to fully embrace the fullness of what that means to understand God as Father. So often our view of God as Father is directly impacted by our relationship with the parental figures that we're in our life. And the problem with that is that we're relating to a perfect God using a flawed metric. But the thing that has been most helpful in working with patients is helping them explore the fact that even if they were abandoned by their earthly father or their earthly father was not a kind person, God as father specifically chose us, made the loving choice that he wanted us to be a child. I remember I was driving around one day in Hollywood and it's just, it's such a fun city because almost everyone there is like dreamers. They moved to Hollywood because they have a big dream to pursue. So I'm driving around listening to worship music. Just I'm in love with the city and I felt this deep conviction from God where he was like, “you've been making this calling, you've been making this all about yourself.” And it was that like gut punch of like, oh gosh, I better pay attention. And what I felt him saying in my spirit was, "You've been making this all about you. This really has nothing to do with you. Do you trust that I can fill the spaces between you and this dream that I've called you to pursue?" So of course, I ugly cried, I repented. I said, "I'm so sorry, God." And I've tried to be faithful with what he's asked me to do. The enemy makes it all about us, because he doesn't want it to be all about God. I wonder how many people are listening today, who have felt the unction of God calling them into something and self-doubt has interfered. Friends, if that is you, if God is calling you into something, he's going to equip you. He's going to walk with you. He's going to train you. He's going to bring along mentors. He's going to provide the finances. Listen to Jenny's story. It's not all about you. It's about him. Dig in and also invite the Holy Spirit into your reading process because like I said, we can we can read and or listen to the text, but it's one thing to say, “Holy Spirit make this come alive and show me how to apply this to my life as well.” I love that last recommendation because when Jesus left, he said, “I'm going to send one to remind you of all truth.” He was talking about the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit can't remind us of truth that we haven't already taken in. So, when you're reading the word, do just as Jenny says and invite the Holy Spirit to teach you truth. And those words are going to come alive off the page. When we understand the Gospel and who triune God really is, the end result is knowing and enjoying God more! Theology and getting to know God doesn’t have to be intimating or boring! Start where you are and learn to wrestle with God’s word. Don’t just read it, but make time to study it. It’s life-changing! Scripture References: Numbers 23:19 ESV God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. A 3rd-century Christian hymn was discovered among the Oxyrhynchus papyri, and the hymn contains worship offered to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This episode explores the Greek hymn, examines how it illustrates the one God, and demonstrates why it is not evidence for belief in the Trinity during the late 200s. Instead, the hymn appears to best fit a modalistic understanding of God.   To view the video version of this episode, go here: https://youtu.be/F7E5rf6Cpq4     Visit Amazon to buy your copy of A Systematic Theology of the Early Church: https://amzn.to/47jldOc   Visit Amazon to buy your copy of Wisdom Christology in the Gospel of John: https://amzn.to/3JBflHb    Visit Amazon to buy your copy of The Son of God: Three Views of the Identity of Jesus: https://amzn.to/43DPYey   To support this podcast, donate here: https://www.paypal.me/10mintruthtalks   Episode notes: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11At1ZRu50GM_UrFdSN29NqV5XwXJRQjirATLPN8vCyQ/edit?usp=sharing        Subscribe to me on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/@BiblicalUnitarianPodcast       Follow me on X (Twitter): https://twitter.com/OneGodPodcast

    Broadcasts – Christian Working Woman

Presented by Lauren Stibgen Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble (Proverbs 21:23). This short verse is a good summary of why I want you to consider true fasting from both gossip and complaining! Neither of these habits are very lifegiving, and complaining can become very prevalent in our lives when we don't feel like we have abundance in one area or another. Considering your tongue, more specifically what you are saying, can be a good start not to only “fasting” from gossip and complaining but eliminating this from your life completely as a follower of Jesus Christ. Neither bear fruit, and gossip and complaining grieve the Holy Spirit! Both gossip and complaining are common when it comes to the workplace, and it is easy to get “sucked in” to both patterns depending on your office culture. Draw a line and truly fast from these behaviors until they disappear! First gossip. Exodus 23:1 begins by reminding us to not spread false reports. While not all gossip is false information, it is easy to perpetuate a rumor, especially about someone else. You know how this happens at work. It can be something related to another person's work quality or something very personal. I can hear it now. Did you know so and so failed to meet their quota? Did you hear she is filing for divorce? Any form of information coming to you about someone else in the form of a question should be examined. Is the discussion necessary to do your job? With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape (Proverbs 11:9). What about complaining? Philippians 2:14 tells us to do all things without grumbling or disputing that we may be blameless and innocent. What are you prone to grumble about at work? Is it a specific task? Another person? Do you often complain about your job? I had a sweet sister in Christ tell me she was trying not to curse what blesses her. Boy did that sit heavy on my heart. How can you “fast” from gossip and complaining? Take a minute to pause before you speak or respond to anything coming your way. If someone tries to engage you in gossip, redirect the conversation. I always like to ask another question in return. Are you sure? Have you talked to so and so directly about that? Or a statement like, we really shouldn't be talking about so and so's job performance. If you find yourself wanting to complain, pray! Pray for God to change your heart or view of the situation. I tried to keep a little log for a week. I would place a mark each time I complained or engaged in gossip. Seeing this really challenged me to quit these two bad habits and repent to God when I find myself slipping back into them.

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man,yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly.Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,“Joseph, son of David,do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spiritthat this child has been conceived in her.She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”All this took place to fulfillwhat the Lord had said through the prophet:Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son,and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.”When Joseph awoke,he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded himand took his wife into his home.He had no relations with her until she bore a son,and he named him Jesus.

The Prison Pulpit As I’ve stated all year, the goal of the Prison Pulpit series is to remind people to pray for persecuted believers as Hebrews 13:3 teaches us to do: “Remember those who are in prison, as bound with them.” As I am recording this podcast, we have just passed the 7th anniversary of the attack and forced closure of Early Rain Church in Chengdu, China, and the arrest of Pastor Wang Yi, on December 9th, 2018. A couple weeks ago I read the Wang Yi family newsletter that was published just 12 days before his arrest on Dec 9, 2018. Last week I shared a few updates that were put out by unnamed Early Rain Church members in the aftermath of the attack and arrest of the pastor and most of the leadership. As one of last week's updates reminded us, there was no guarantee that the next update would ever come. Arrests were ongoing and, for lack of a better phrase, church leaders were falling like flies. However, in spite of all this, more updates did follow, and I want to share some of them with you now: Early Rain Urgent Prayer Update #10 (12/12/18) May the Lord give us love for souls. These law enforcement officers greatly need the gospel of Christ. They have greatly sinned against God. We need to pray for them, for we were once like them. May the Lord himself speak words of comfort to us, for he has given his life for us. We suffer with those brothers and sisters who suffer as though imprisoned with them. May God make peace like a river flow through our hearts… Please strengthen your resolve, brothers and sisters. Experience in the midst of every kind of tribulation and danger the filling of the Holy Spirit and the renewal of your lives. Early Rain Urgent Prayer Update (12/15/18) According to some testimonies of brothers and sisters that have emerged, they have been sharing the gospel while under guard. They have been using their suffering as a beautiful testimony for the Lord. Some police officers and workers have been very interested in the gospel, even giving their addresses and asking for Bibles. May the Lord choose for himself children from among these law enforcement officers persecuting the church. Another encouraging testimony from a church member who was just released from 10 days of detention... “It is like a monastery in there. I cultivated myself for ten days there. Thank God for his protection. I often shared the gospel in there. There was a Tibetan named Z who really wanted to hear preaching, to join a small group, and to become a Christian. There was also a master’s student who has been quite miserable since entering [the detention center]. He wanted to buy a Bible, and I told him I would give him one. He also wanted to attend a small group Bible study. There was also another person who used to belong to a traditional house church but who stumbled because of marriage problems. I am preparing to give him one of our church’s thumb drives so he can listen to preaching. Please keep praying for the nearly 20 brothers and sisters at the detention center and for Yingxu and Shuqi, about whom we still have no information. And pray for the others, as well, because we don’t know how they are doing now. It is a high-level detention center, and it is quite strict; but from another perspective, the despair of the prisoners inside is also quite high, making evangelizing more fruitful. Thank the Lord!” Lord, the greatest freedom in the world is the freedom of becoming your children. You say that we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. May your Spirit fill us and make us to worship freely, to enter prison freely, to spread the gospel freely. Give us free and noble hearts. Turn us into liberated criminals willing to be detained by the world. For a servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted you, they will persecute us. We also ask you to forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. Open their eyes to see your glory and turn them into free children! The painting hung on the wall of a home for years, unnoticed and forgotten, until one day it fell. When it was taken to an art restorer for repairs, he discovered it was a long-lost Rembrandt masterpiece titled The Adoration of the Magi. It had been thought that only copies of the work remained, but here was the original. Suddenly the painting’s value skyrocketed to hundreds of millions of dollars. The Bible paints another picture of underestimated value and forgotten worth. Isaiah the prophet, inspired by the Holy Spirit, told God’s people that even though they would be taken away to a foreign land where they would suffer and be devalued, He would still be with them: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine,” He assured them (Isaiah 43:1). Though they would “pass through the waters” and “walk through the fire” ( v. 2), His faithfulness to them would not change. With words that point to His coming kingdom in Christ, God promised that He would one day restore “everyone who is called by my name,” (v. 7) and bring them home to Him. God will one day gather all who are His because they “are precious and honored in [His] sight” (v. 4), each one an original! Our Creator values us because of His infinite kindness and mercy. The world may overlook us, but He never will.

Gospel Matthew 1:1-17 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham became the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers. Judah became the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar. Perez became the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, Ram the father of Amminadab. Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab. Boaz became the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth. Obed became the father of Jesse, Jesse the father of David the king. David became the father of Solomon, whose mother had been the wife of Uriah. Solomon became the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asaph. Asaph became the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, Joram the father of Uzziah. Uzziah became the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah. Hezekiah became the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amos, Amos the father of Josiah. Josiah became the father of Jechoniah and his brothers at the time of the Babylonian exile. After the Babylonian exile, Jechoniah became the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, Zerubbabel the father of Abiud. Abiud became the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor, Azor the father of Zadok. Zadok became the father of Achim, Achim the father of Eliud, Eliud the father of Eleazar. Eleazar became the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Of her was born Jesus who is called the Christ. Thus the total number of generations from Abraham to David is fourteen generations; from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen generations; from the Babylonian exile to the Christ, fourteen generations. Reflection If you happen to be a lecture in a parish, and comes your turn to be the reader you're hoping is not this reading. It's so interesting because people say, well, why does this matter? And it does matter essentially to understand how God is working in your life, and in my life. He's so connected to the ordinary. You're listening to a kind of an ancestral.com report about who your relatives are. And it's interesting and curious to think that your generations go back, but can you realize that what God is saying is, from the beginning of time, I have been working with ordinary people in ordinary circumstances, slowly enabling them to grow and evolve and change until they were ripe and ready to receive the most extraordinary gift. Mary, being infused with the Holy Spirit and giving birth to Jesus. It happened naturally. It continues to grow and happen naturally. I look back at the generations in my family and they were different than I am, and each generation somehow learns from the generation before. That's the process of evolving into the people that God calls us to be. The family that ultimately is the final goal is you living in God with God and feeling those around you. Closing Prayer Father, it's hard for us to realize that these things, marvelous things that you have accomplished in the world, were done in such a simple, ordinary, human way. It's all about us understanding how human you are and how your humanity, when it is directed toward us, awakens in us something so natural that we cannot not be drawn to your beauty, your wonder, your grace that comes to us through most ordinary ways. And we ask this in Jesus' name, Amen. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The charismatic gifts - emphasized in many of the documents of Vatican II - are a great blessing, but we can easily forget their ultimate purpose or be tempted to prize the gifts over the giver. As the Church continues to be awakened to the wonderful gifts of the Holy Spirit, we must never forget that they exist to lead us to conversion, repentance, faith, and salvation.

Welcome to Episode #194 of the Way of the Bible podcast. This is our second of eight episodes in our Twenty-Fifth mini-series entitled The Return of Jesus Christ [4]. On today's episode, we will continue exploring the reason for a Christian's anticipation of the second coming of Jesus. That reason is tied up in the prophetic fulfillment of Isaiah 25:8 as referenced by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:54 – Death has been swallowed up in victory.Isaiah 25:7-8 – On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. This is a profound topic, Death, so we've taken it in two parts. On our last episode, we addressed the origin of death and why it is so hideous and has eternal consequences. In today's episode, we'll explore how Jesus conquered death and offers eternal life to all who believe. We'll also take a forward peek to the end of time, and see that Death itself will be cast into the eternal lake of fire, where it will remain forever and ever. What we learned on our last episode was that, since time immemorial, mankind has sensed we are not where we once were. We seem to claw and yearn for a land far away. James Hilton, in his 1933 novel “Lost Horizon,” pictured this place as Shangri-La, a mythical, earthly hidden paradise in an idyllic valley of eternal youth and peace. We ignore what we know to be true. God exists, as evidenced in creation, and only he can tell us the Way to return home. In our self-absorbed ignorance, we follow the deceitful lies of the devil who took us captive from birth to do his will because of our fear of death.Yet, with every step we take to fulfill the devil's will, we constantly hear the ground seemingly crying cry out, awaiting our demise and return to dust. In our modern world, we've reduced our contact with the horror of it all by sticking our old and infirm into long-term care facilities, which leaves them locked up and away from view. We are like the wandering children of the streets in the story of Pinocchio. We are attracted by the trinkets (money and power), games (he with the most toys in the end wins), and candy (sex, drugs, and rock and roll) provided by the devil's groomers who lead us onto the slavery ship from which there is no natural means of escape – destination death, the grave, condemnation by God and eternal punishment. This, by the way, is the end of everyone born after the age of innocence, as a result of the sin of Adam. We are all infected; no one is immune to the bloodline sin and condemnation of Adam. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE. But what about Jesus? AHAH!! You had to ask, didn't you? Here is where the first deception is implanted. In the words of the devil in the garden, appearing to Eve as a serpent, “Did God really say” (Gen 3:1), and “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman (Gen 3:4). To hide his deception, the devil used a double entendre in his overall assessment of the situation. Listen to this sly devil. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Gen 3:5). On the one hand, Eve could think God was holding out on her, not wanting her to be like God. And why shouldn't she be? She was of Adam, who was made in the image and likeness of God. She's only one bite away from being like God. On the other hand, Eve could think God wants her to eat the fruit and be like him. Why else would God have created her? It may have been evident to Eve that Adam was holding out on her. It was Adam who told her not to eat or touch the fruit. God's desire would naturally be that Eve would be like God, knowing good and evil. So, either way, Eve, looking at the situation, had one choice: eat the fruit. Which she did and nothing happened.Eve then gave the fruit to her husband, Adam, who was with her. God had commanded A

CULTIVATING SAINTS, SAGES, AND STATESMEN THROUGH THE GREAT TRADITION OF CHRISTENDOMWe are very excited to finally present this episode on St. Irenaeus of Lyon, the great 2nd century Church Father (one generation removed from the Apostles) who did so much to help me convert from protestantism to the Catholic Faith.Specifically, we dive into everything he said in his great work, "Against Heresies" (written around AD 180) about the Catholic doctrine of Apostolic Succession, which says that the one true Church is governed by the successors of the Apostles, the bishops, and preeminently the successor of St. Peter, the Pope in Rome. St. Irenaeus even describes, in proto form, the infallibility of the Church, and how the Holy Spirit will always guide the Church into all truth through the successors of the Apostles.Suffice it to say, St. Irenaeus's testimony was absolutely shocking to me as a protestant, and played a huge role in my conversion to the Catholic Faith. So much of what he said about the Church's teaching remains true in the Catholic Church to this day. Likewise, much that he said about heretics and schismatics is "disturbingly similar" to protestantism to this very day.HOLIDAY GIVING OPPORTINITY FOR MONTHLY PATRONShttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbIqyA4z6XYVISIT OUR WEBSITEhttps://eternalchristendom.com/BECOME A PATRON OF THE GREAT TRADITIONAs a non-profit, you can support our mission with a tax-deductible gift. What does it mean to rejoice when life feels overwhelming?   In this homily, we look at two saints who both experienced prison — St. John the Baptist and St. Paul — and ask an important question: Why does one doubt, while the other says, “Rejoice always”?   The difference is the Holy Spirit.   Through baptism, we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit — and one of His greatest gifts is joy. Not happiness that depends on circumstances, but a deep joy that remains even in suffering.   This Gaudete (Rejoicing) Sunday reminder challenges us to ask:

In this message, Missionary Shane Lehman shares what it truly means to live a life available to the Holy Spirit and to bring the gospel to places where darkness feels overwhelming. Drawing from real-life mission experiences in Oaxaca and beyond, this sermon reminds us that life with God was never meant to be boring—it is meant to be alive, adventurous, and fully surrendered. Shane challenges believers to examine their availability to the Holy Spirit each day, emphasizing that transformation happens when we stop asking God to bless our plans and instead ask Him what He wants to do. Through stories of salvation in villages, gas stations, taxis, and forgotten places, we see how Jesus brings life where death once ruled. This message centers on John 10:10 and John 14:6, declaring that Jesus alone is the way, the truth, and the life, and that true abundance is not found in comfort or prosperity but in encounters with God, obedience, and freedom from deception. You will also hear: • The call to go where others will not and love people who feel forgotten • Why idols still exist today, even when they look modern or spiritual • A fresh perspective on “Doubting Thomas” as Honest Thomas—a disciple willing to die for Jesus • How God destroys idols not to shame us, but to give us real life This sermon is a bold reminder that Jesus is enough, that the gospel is still powerful today, and that every believer is invited into a life of purpose, courage, and obedience.
