Zechariah 4:1–10. God gave Zechariah a vision to encourage a weary people rebuilding after exile. The lampstand and flowing oil revealed that revival doesn't come from human strength but through the unending supply of the Holy Spirit. The task wasn't to build by effort but to stay connected to the Source. Pastor Josh Kelsey shows us how this prophecy reminds us not to despise small beginnings. What looks like rubble to us, God sees as a finished temple. The mountain before us is no match for His Spirit, and the same grace that began the work will complete it.

A native of Thessalonica, he rose from secretary to Alexander, Patriarch of Constantinople (commemorated August 30), to deacon, then succeeded St Alexander as Patriarch around 337. For his virtue and his zeal for Orthodoxy he was hated by the Arians, who were still powerful in the Empire. The Arian Emperor Constantius, learning of Paul's election, exiled him and made the Arian Eusebius Patriarch in his place. St Paul went to Rome, where he joined St Athanasius the Great in exile. Furnished with letters from Pope Julius, he was able to ascend the Patriarchal throne once again upon the death of Eusebius. But once again the Arians were able to put one of their party on the Patriarchal throne: Macedonius, who even went beyond the Arian heresy and denied the divinity of the Holy Spirit. Once again the legitimate, Orthodox Patriarch found himself in exile in Rome. In succeeding years St Paul stood firm for Orthodoxy while complex political and military intrigues swirled around him, with the Orthodox Constans, Emperor of the West (and Constantius' brother) supporting him while Constantius continued to oppose him. For a time Constans was able to enforce Paul's place on the Patriarchal throne, but when he died, Constantius banished St Paul to Cucusus on the Black Sea. There, while he was celebrating the Divine Liturgy in the house where he was kept prisoner, the Arians strangled him with his own omophorion. His relics were brought back to Constantinople by the Emperor Theodosius the Great.

Borrowed Land, Stolen Labor, and the Holy Spirit: The Struggle for Power and Equality in Holmes County, Mississippi (UP Mississippi, 2025) chronicles the profound history of a low-income county that became a pivotal site for Delta organizing during the civil rights movement. Landowning African American farmers, who enjoyed more economic independence than sharecroppers, emerged as the grassroots leaders of the movement. The volume begins with the county's Native American heritage, moving through the periods of removal, land sales to speculators, the rapid increase of enslaved labor in the nineteenth century, and early African American political engagement during Reconstruction. Author Diane T. Feldman explores how African Americans fostered cooperative landownership efforts in the 1880s and 1920s, alongside the development of schools and churches, particularly the Church of God in Christ, a denomination founded in Holmes County. The fight for voting rights started with African American farmers in the 1950s and gained momentum with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in the 1960s. Their struggle to desegregate schools culminated in the landmark Supreme Court case Alexander v. Holmes, which abolished dual school systems in the South. The final chapters cover the past sixty years and current initiatives to restore food production in the Mississippi Delta. Enriched with recent and historic photographs, this volume serves as a microhistory of a single county, illuminating broader themes prevalent throughout Mississippi and the rural South. He then invited them to rejoice over the found sheep.“In just the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.”It's the joy of the Heavens over repentant sinners. We take this joy from the person of Jesus Christ. As He revealed,“There will be rejoicing among the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Click here for more on this topic and other free resources - https://www.drjimrichards.com The Critical Factor of Faith We all know that miracles are a gift—freely given by the Holy Spirit. Yet, if we're honest, we've all faced moments when the miracle we needed didn't manifest. In those moments, we often turn inward and start judging ourselves or even questioning God. We assume we know why the miracle didn't happen—and then, based on those assumptions, we try to fix the problem in our own strength. But here's the truth: when we're in need, God doesn't tell us to seek a miracle first—He tells us to seek wisdom. The critical factor in faith is knowing and trusting what God is saying! Wisdom may have many definitions, but one thing is certain: true wisdom always leads to practical application. It shows us how to walk out God's promises in real life. That's why Scripture says wisdom is the principal thing—the most essential factor of all. Get wisdom before you attempt to devise your plan! God knows what's in your heart. He knows the path you're able to walk—the path that will lead you to the life you desire. Without wisdom, we waste time chasing what worked in the past or trying to imitate someone else's formula. But when we seek God first, the Holy Spirit unfolds the map, showing us where and how to walk! Join me this week as we discover why wisdom is the critical factor in faith —and how God wants to show you the exact path to activate faith in your heart and bring His promises to life!

In this episode of Wisdom's Table, I dive deep into a topic that quietly sabotages many Christian entrepreneurs: double-mindedness. I felt compelled to share this prophetic word, knowing that many of us have experienced the tension between faith and fear at various points in our lives. We explore how double-mindedness shows up. Not through a lack of talent or opportunity, but as a split between believing in God's provision while simultaneously worrying about our decisions. This internal conflict can cost us peace, money, and momentum in our callings. I emphasize that God is not vague, and the Holy Spirit is not confusing; therefore, we shouldn't feel the need to hedge our bets when it comes to our faith. I reference James 1:5-8, which highlights the importance of asking God for wisdom in faith without doubting. I clarify that doubt, in this biblical context, is more than mere skepticism; it can lead to a state of double-mindedness, which is essentially doubt that has taken root. Spiritual maturity doesn't happen in isolation—it grows in community. In this message, we are reminded that the Holy Spirit didn't just unite people to God at Pentecost—He united people to each other. The same Spirit that filled the Early Church still calls us to connect, forgive, and grow together today. Discover why the deepest transformation happens when we make space for real relationships.

In this message, Pastor Landon teaches from Luke 15:8–10, where Jesus describes the joy of heaven over one sinner who repents—and how the Holy Spirit lights the way. The lost coin represents something precious that never loses its worth, even when hidden. It reflects the image of God in every person—each life still bearing His imprint and value, no matter how far from Him. The Holy Spirit convicts (not condemns), reveals truth, and draws people to Jesus—while the church “sweeps the house” in faithful, practical evangelism. Our simple call to action: Light. Sweep. Celebrate. Depend on the Spirit, diligently seek the lost, and rejoice when grace wins.

The children of God are peacemakers.  A peacemaker is someone who intentionally works to help people reconcile with God and others.  Anyone who does the hard work of peacemaking will be blessed by God.Main Points:1. The word “peace” in Matthew 5:9 combines two Greek words.  Together they mean to bring about wholeness, to bring all the essential parts together in wholeness.2. Peace-making requires God's power.  Real and lasting peace is impossible to create without God's help.  You can't make what you don't have.  The only way to have inner peace is to make peace with God through faith in Jesus Christ.3. Peacemaking is such hard work that it's easier to say…. “I'm staying out it.”  We try and fail and get discouraged, so we give up.  But through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can all work to be peacemakers, and in doing so we are a reflection of God's character.  Today's Scripture Verses:Matthew 5:9 - “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”Romans 5:1 - “Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ.”2 Corinthians chapter 5:18 -  “God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

Last Sunday, I shared how the mind is the meeting place for heaven, hell, and earth—not because they all live there, but because that's where they all compete for your agreement. Every thought that passes through your mind carries an invitation: some from God, some from fear, and some from your own story. What you agree with determines the reality you live from. When Paul writes in Ephesians 4:23 to “be renewed in the spirit of your mind,” he's describing something deeper than just thinking better thoughts. He's talking about the atmosphere within you—the spiritual air your thoughts breathe. The Holy Spirit doesn't just give you new ideas; He changes the environment where those ideas are born. He renews the wind inside your thinking until peace becomes the natural climate of your inner world. So this week, when your thoughts feel loud or scattered, pause and invite Him in. Ask the Spirit to renew the atmosphere, to change the air in your mind. Slow down long enough to let Him breathe truth where fear has been, clarity where confusion lingers, and peace where pressure once ruled. Renewed thinking rarely happens at the speed of emotion. It happens at the speed of attention. It is a slow and sacred work. Renewal starts not with striving to think differently, but by letting the Spirit transform the space where your thoughts begin. For more info, you can go to our website, check us out on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. November brings us to the end of another church year, which focuses our attention on the last things, on death and resurrection, on heaven and hell. We confess in the creeds, “I believe in … the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting”; “I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.” It is remarkable that these creedal truths were already as good as accomplished thousands of years ago, with prophecies inspired by the Holy Spirit and written down by men such as Job (19:25–27), Daniel (12:2–3) and Isaiah (26:19). Some Christians take Revelation, Daniel, Ezekiel and other prophetic books of the Bible to be “guidebooks to the end times.” However, careful study of both the Old and New Testaments shows that their focus is on comforting the church on earth with knowledge of the victory of Jesus Christ over sin, death and the devil and His promise to take us to Himself for eternity. As we open the Old Testament and see our present and future revealed there, we will need to keep in mind the “prophetic perspective” that could be observed in Jeremiah 31:31–34 and Joel 2:28–32, in which some predictions have been fulfilled in the messianic age but others must wait until the end of time. Rev. Carl Roth, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Elgin, TX, joins Sarah to talk about the “Searching Scripture” feature in the November 2025 issue of the Lutheran Witness titled “The New Heavens and New Earth” on Isaiah 65-66. This year, “Searching Scripture” is themed “Opening the Old Testament” and will walk through ways that the Old Testament witnesses to Jesus Christ and His grace, mercy and peace, delivered through the holy Christian church. Send us a textGod loves us unconditionally. He has provided everything we need for life and godliness, including everything we will face in our careers. When we face obstacles on our journey to fulfilling our God-given goals, it's important to remember the power of faith and prayer. Jesus assures us that we can ask, seek, and knock, and we will receive what we need. Divine promises hold the incredible power to dynamically change our circumstances when combined with our faith and our prayers. We share a powerful promise that "Ask and it will be given you. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you." Mattew 7:7Faith in God promises empowers us to move from vague and uncertain outcomes to the faithfulness of our Father in Heaven, transforming prayer from vague hope into purposeful action.Rooted in Jesus' promise in Matthew 7:7-8 and illuminated by Mark 11, we explore how faith addresses obstacles. It's not just our faith, but also the guidance and support of the Holy Spirit that helps us prepare and move forward when God opens the way. The Holy Spirit is our constant companion, leading us, guiding us, and preparing us for the journey ahead. We start with God's heart: unconditional love and a commitment to give His best, not leftovers. From there, we delve into the practical aspects of the Holy Spirit's presence within us. The Holy Spirit is our constant companion, guiding us, ordering our steps, and empowering us to pursue the goals God has helped us set. You'll hear how to ask for wisdom with clarity, seek resources with focus, and knock on closed doors with words of faith that align with God's will. We discuss why speaking to challenges matters, how doubt erodes authority, and what it looks like to expect God to act without trying to control the timeline.Throughout, we emphasize the importance of preparation and obedience. When you believe God will open the door, you get ready: refine the plan, make the call, write the proposal, schedule the meeting. Then, when the door swings open, you walk through it in faith and give thanks. Along the way, we share how practicing time alone with God—using a pen, notebook, and a few verses—helps you hear God's direction for your life and work. Insight shared is insight multiplied, so we encourage you to pass on what you learn to someone who needs courage today. If this message lifts your faith or meets you at a closed door, subscribe for more teachings, share this episode with a friend, and leave a review to help others find it. Tell us: what door are you knocking on this week? Is it a job opportunity that seems out of reach? A relationship that needs mending? A health issue that needs healing? Whatever it is, remember that God is on the other side of that door, ready to open it when the time is right.https://www.seldicompany.com/

Many Christian church bodies in the United States have presidents or bishops that function as administrative heads or public faces of that particular church. But none of these quite matches up to the role of the Roman Catholic Pope—the Bishop of Rome. Does not having a single, strong authority open the door for theological and practical innovations in a church? This has not turned out, in practice, to be the case; single, powerful leaders have not historically been able to protect the church from error. The alternative, however—complete autonomy for all individuals—has also been fruitless. The solution is the Bible's vision of the Body of Christ. Jesus has poured out his Holy Spirit and gifted his whole church with his Word, and God promises that his Spirit will lead and guide his Church into truth through the careful, communal study of the Bible, guided by trained leaders. To believe that there are no conditions or responsibilities on our part to obtain the prize and receive the blessings of our inheritance would be very naïve. There are conditions to walk out in our lives if we want to live in the perfect will of God and receive far more in this life. We are the ones that choose to walk in Gods will: Rom. 12:2 ~ And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. Spend some time with us today and allow the Holy Spirit to stir up a fresh fire in your spirit to go for the Perfect Will of God for your life! Stop Bargaining with God | Judges 11:29-31

Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Today's shout-out goes to Jeff Grasty from Rock Hill, SC. Thank you for your partnership with us through Project23. Our text today is Judges 11:29-31. Then the Spirit of the Lord was upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh and passed on to Mizpah of Gilead, and from Mizpah of Gilead he passed on to the Ammonites. And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord and said, "If you will give the Ammonites into my hand, then whatever comes out from the doors of my house to meet me when I return in peace from the Ammonites shall be the Lord's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering." — Judges 11:29-31 Here is that terminology again: "the Spirit of the Lord clothed Jephthah." Meaning God himself equipped him with power for the battle. Victory was already guaranteed because God was already present. But Jephthah didn't rest in that assurance. He made a vow—an unnecessary bargain with God. This was the irony: the Spirit of God was enough, yet Jephthah bartered like it wasn't. Jephthah complicated his doubt with a detrimental bargain. We are all guilty of this. God gives us the Holy Spirit, the very presence and power that raised Jesus from the dead. Yet instead of moving forward in faith, we add conditions. We say, "God, if you show up, I'll be faithful. If you bless me, then I'll obey. If you fix this, then I'll finally trust You." When he already lives within us. But bargaining with God is not faith—it's fear dressed up as faith. It reveals our insecurity more than our devotion. The Spirit of God already provides everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Remember, when you add conditions, you don't secure more of God's favor—you forfeit the peace of trusting Him. The Spirit is enough. Always has been. Always will be. So identify where you've been making deals with God, and instead act in simple, Spirit-led obedience. ASK THIS: Where am I complicating God's promises with my own conditions? How am I bargaining with God instead of simply believing Him? What step of faith could I take today to show I trust His Spirit is enough? DO THIS: Stop adding fine print to God's promises. Identify one area where you've been making deals with God, and instead act in simple, Spirit-led obedience. PRAY THIS: Lord, forgive me for complicating what You've already completed. Help me to rest in Your Spirit, trust Your promises, and move forward in bold faith without bargaining. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Same Power."

Follow along every month and search Scripture with us! Find online exclusives of the Lutheran Witness at witness.lcms.org and subscribe to the Lutheran Witness at cph.org/witness. Get ready for God to do a new thing in your life! We need spiritual understanding when God wants to expand our capacity. In the Bible, perception is often linked to wisdom, discernment, and spiritual understanding, which involves seeing beyond physical appearances to grasp what we cannot see in the spirit. Recognize that our human perception can be flawed and limited. However, our spiritual perception is empowered by the Holy Spirit, who enables believers to perceive and understand God's will and truths.
