Flowster Live Demo https://flowster.app/live-demo/ Episode Highlights [3:19] — Kelsey introduces VAXA Digital Agency and explains his background Kelsey worked in finance before switching to the creative industry because of his passion for video editing. He started VAXA as a side hustle in January 2020 and turned it into a full-time business in March 2021. Business slowed down when the pandemic first hit, but it has since started to gain momentum and boomed. [7:33] — How Kelsey decided to quit his job Kelsey dabbled in a few side hustles before finally hitting the nail with his digital agency VAXA. It's important to know when to cut your losses, even when you've invested money and effort into something. Sometimes, the best thing to do is to shut it down. Even when VAXA made Kelsey six figures, he didn't jump to make it his main job just yet. However, Kelsey knew that if he wanted VAXA to earn $40-50k a month, he'd have to go full-time with it. He never knew the exact time to jump off — he just did. It helped that Kelsey got support from his colleagues and peers. [15:11] — Bootstrapping vs. debt financing There are pros and cons to each method of starting a business. Kelsey wonders if they could have doubled their growth rate had he invested more capital or acquired debt financing. Aside from using one credit card to buy their initial equipment, Kelsey shares that everything was positive cash flow. They charged clients upfront, which they use to pay contractors and salaries. [20:28] — VAXA's current customer capacity Kelsey is confident that they have the capacity to deliver outputs for eight retainer-based customers a month. He is considering expanding the team if they hit 10-12 customers a month. On the possibility of scaling to 80 clients, he shares that he would replicate their teams and have them follow the systems that they built. [25:53] — Kelsey shares how he creates systems The first thing that Kelsey systematized was editing, including the standard fonts they would use, the colors that pop out, and how to insert graphics. Kelsey reverse-engineered his output when creating a framework, dissecting it by figuring out the hook, benefits, problems, social proofs, and call to action. He then built flowcharts for employees to follow. They also built systems for production day (such as hiring talent, booking Airbnbs, sending out the schedule) and client experience (onboarding, forums, sources for materials, feedback forms). There are many tools you can use to track and manage your processes. [34:25] — Kelsey explains the importance of opportunity cost Hiring people and expanding his team have allowed him to focus on other revenue-generating things. There will be an initial drop in quality as new hires learn the ropes. But eventually, they catch up and produce good results — sometimes better than what Kelsey can make. Understand the value of your time. Don't incur costs; use your time to generate revenue. [40:45] — Kelsey on outsourcing Not all outsourcing has to cost you money. Finding people willing to work on commissions is also hugely beneficial. [42:21] — How did you get your digital agency's name out there? Kelsey had no outbound strategy for the digital agency. Being active on social media, engaging with other people in the same community, and expanding your network all play a significant role in organic growth. Consider an affiliate program as that can also generate more customers. [46:22] — Building his connections Kelsey joined as a beta member in the Facebook group “Trends” in December 2018. He blocked off 15-20 minutes of his day to engage with the community, establish rapport, and set up a solid client base. Kelsey launched VAXA through a post in the group and got 40 leads by offering a 90%-off trial for anyone who needed an e-commerce video ad.

They are often concerned with driving sales for their products and growing their businesses, and this often leads to performance pressure, stress, and anxiety. The employees of a business are also affected by mental health issues as they carry out their daily duties. While this can go unnoticed, it could have far-reaching consequences if left unacknowledged — not just for the employees, but for the company at large. Kelsey Johnson is a Bozeman-based artist whose work highlights the epic wildlife, people, and landscapes of the American West. Using graphite pencils and oil paints, Kelsey creates stunning, life-like artwork-- works that you would assume were created by a full-time artist with decades of experience. But in reality, Kelsey is new to professional art-- she balances her artistic endeavors with a full-time job, and she actually started her art business only a few years ago, back in 2018. While Kelsey’s artistic career will undoubtedly continue to grow and flourish in the coming years, I am inspired by the commitment and work ethic she exhibits on a daily basis to turn her creative passions into a self-sustaining business. - Growing up in Pennsylvania, Kelsey was always artistic, but she put art aside and earned her undergraduate degree in agricultural business and agronomy. After graduation, she began a career with a large corporation where she sold corn and soybean seeds across the United States. While the job was safe and steady with plenty of upward mobility, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she was not completely fulfilled by her work. So, as you’ll hear her describe, a series of events came together that prompted her to pack up and move to Montana, where she rededicated herself to her artistic inclinations. - I greatly admire Kelsey and the way she has created a life and career here in the West. I also feel that she serves as a perfect example of how to balance professional, practical obligations with the pursuit of artistic goals. If you’ve got creative ambitions but struggle to fit them in between the other demands of life, you’ll find Kelsey’s story inspirational. We had a wide-ranging conversation, discussing everything from her childhood on the east coast to her eventual move to Montana. We talked about her evolution as an artist, some of her artistic breakthroughs, and her creative influences. She talks a lot about juggling professional and artistic commitments, and she also offers up some excellent book, music, and film recommendations. - And as you’ll hear in the episode, Kelsey and I will be doing a giveaway of a print of her newest painting, titled “Land of the Desert Poppy,” which I’ve linked to in the notes. If you want to enter to win, follow me on Instagram and look for a post about the giveaway later this week, the week of February 22, 2021. - Thanks so much to Kelsey for taking the time to chat. Ever wondered, “How about I start over”? Now, before you say…..Woah, Natalie! Hold up, girlfriend. What’s going on in that head of yours...hear me out. A start-over can be amazing. It can be one of the greatest gifts you give yourself. And there are tons of reasons for it to happen: Maybe you run a business, but you realise it isn't aligned with who you've become. (Good reason to start over)Maybe you’re playing small and you know in your soul it’s time to play big. Maybe your business just isn’t doing it for you anymore. (Start over ASAP, girlfriend)Maybe you need a change. Maybe you need something new. Maybe you’re just not in alignment with your business anymore; orMaybe you're after a challenge. (Again...a start-over is sounding amazing right now)My advice? Listen to that inner voice. It is trying to tell you something.Whatever the reason, it’s OK to want change. Change actually isn’t the thing we need to watch out for. What we need to watch out for is how we handle the change. That’s exactly what my guest, Kelsey Chapman talks about in today’s episode. This powerhouse grew a multiple 6-figure business in two years from a blog and side hustle. And then she gave it all up to start again from scratch.Kelsey knew that if she was going to conquer the overwhelm of starting again, and not burn herself out the way she had with her previous biz, she was going to have to tackle something very early on. What was this thing? All in the podcast, lovely. The main thing, she says, is not to get stuck in your old patterns and habits. We have to shift our mindset. And to do this, we need help. One key way to do this is through mentorship, which Kelsey (and myself) are huge believers in. So much so, that she’s written a book about it (what a Queen), due for release in February 2021It’s time for you to go from dream to done. Tune in to Episode 95 here.In this episode we uncover: ✅ How Kelsey’s lack of boundaries lead to her resenting and totally hating her own business, and how she had to sort that out in a hurry.✅How competency is different from flow - because you might be competent at some things but if they don’t give you flow, you gotta say NO.✅ How to build a new business and not slip back into those old patterns and habits. ✅ Why having a team means you can produce more, go further and be more powerful.✅ What it means to be a misfit in your industry and;✅ How mentoring can literally be a game-changer.Resources:Take a closer look at Kelsey’s awesomeness on her website.Listen to this episode of UNTAPPED where I share why too much change can be dangerous. Today on the show I have one of the amazing dietitians at my virtual private practice, Nourishing Minds Nutrition, Kelsey Pukala back on the show. Kelsey is an incredible non-diet dietitian and I am so honored to have her (and Megan, our other dietitian who will be on the show next week!) as part of our team supporting you in your goals with intuitive eating and wellness without obsession. Kelsey is so great at breaking down complex conversations into an easy to understand way, so I asked Kelsey on the show to discuss how the thyroid is impacted with eating disorders and disordered eating. In this episode we discuss: Kelsey gives an update of what she has been up to lately What exactly is the thyroid and what it does in the body What a healthy functioning thyroid looks like How eating disorders and disordered eating disrupts the thyroid and how this impacts other hormones in the body Signs and symptoms that something may be wrong with your thyroid What kind of lab tests should be ordered and what indicates altered lab values for your thyroid What healing your thryoid looks like in application How Kelsey practices wellness without obsession Kelsey’s past episodes on the podcast: Episode 100: Disordered eating as a root cause to digestive issues Episode 113: What happens to your body when you lose your period Intuitive eating during the holidays Lab work to order if you are concerned about your thyroid, we recommend not only looking at TSH but also T3, T4, reverse T3 and thyroid antibodies. This is considered a full thyroid panel. While optimal ranges of TSH are technically anywhere from 1-4, a woman in their fertile years should usually have a TSH range of 1-2. Answers To Racism Questions: Protests, Riots & Who's Lives Matter Featuring Keenya Kelly # 124 Let's talk about some crazy times, shall we? Today's podcast episode is so important. Keenya Kelly comes on the show to answer some of the toughest questions about race, rioting, and so much more. To be honest, I was a little hesitant and scared to jump on this podcast because this is a really tricky conversation. The last few weeks have been so eye opening for me on the things I don't know when it comes to racism. But I promise to be honest about what I am learning every single day and the stories I am hearing. I still have so far to go and so much to learn, which is why I am so grateful for Keenya. Keenya is amazing. She is hysterical, kind, transparent, and honest. She has so graciously offered herself to be a bridge between White people and Black people, talking about racism, and the ways that we can move forward and navigate these tricky waters. Before I go into anything else… WARNING: It’s gonna be messy… but it’s also going to be real. Here’s what you’ll find out today… When you address your Black friends… do you call them Black or African American? Keenya’s thoughts on who is rioting vs who is protesting… and are they the same people? What does it mean being an ally, and how can you start being one? The difference between AllLivesMatter vs. BlackLivesMatter What exactly is “white centering”. What it was like for Keenya to go to a friend's “redneck” party. How Kelsey is handling the new world of racism in her family. Keenya & Kelsey’s opinion on police brutality. A few really GOOD things that we see coming out of this And also, a few really actionable things that we can take part in, to make a difference. This episode is brought to you by New Chapter. As a women’s health dietitian and educator, I have been on the search for my official recommendation for a prenatal vitamin for quite some time, and I am thrilled to say I finally found the one, and actually a prenatal AND postnatal vitamin- that checks all my boxes. What’s so cool about New Chapter’s perfect prenatal vitamin is that it is fermented for better absorption with beneficial probiotics and whole foods, which also makes it easy to digest and gentle on the stomach- which if you’ve ever taken a prenatal vitamin you know that’s not always the case. Plus their new improved formula contains ginger to help combat morning sickness. It contains all the key nutrients your body needs for a growing baby, including methylfolate- which is the active form of folate I personally always recommend to my clients when they are looking for a prenatal. And they also have a Perfect postnatal vitamin, which is what I am personally taking now. Its formulated specifically for new moms and our needs, to help us replenish nutrient stores from having a baby meaning its going to contain key nutrients like iodine, vitamin D, fermented iron as well as fermented B vitamins to support energy needs. What I think is so helpful is that it also contains herbs and plants that have been used traditionally for lactation like oats, kelp, chamomile and turmeric. As with all New Chapter supplements and products, these prenatal and postnatal vitamins are nonGMO certified, made with organic whole foods and herbs and responsibly sourced. I mean I could it get any better, I don’t think so! You can purchase New Chapter prenatal and postnatal vitamins on New Chapter’s website, Whole Foods, CVS, Amazon and local health food stores. Self Publishing School : Learn How To Write A Book And Grow Your Business
Media entrepreneur and motivational journalist Kelsey Humphreys is on a mission to break down success for the rest of us. She is the host and producer of The Pursuit a talk show and podcast where she interviews influencers like Tony Robbins, Barbara Corcoran, Gary Vaynerchuk, Brandon Bouchard, and others. She offers simple success tips and written articles for Success Magazine, Entrepreneur, LifeHack, and the Huffington Post. She is also the author of the book “Go Solo”. Kelsey is a past student of SPS. I just love her book, and we have had a lot of fun. I’ve really enjoyed seeing her soar with all of the awesome stuff that has happened since the book was published. It’s not just because of the book. It’s because she is a hustler, but the book definitely helped. Today, we are going to discuss her book, her success, and a lot of great motivational ideas. You can find Kelsey here: Kelsey Humphreys The Pursuit Kelsey Humphreys facebook @KelseyHumphreys Twitter Go Solo Kelsey Humphreys LinkedIn Show Notes [03:06] Kelsey wrote her book to teach her knowledge and she knew a book was a legitimate way to meet her end goals and to help launch her speaking and expert marketing career. [04:15] Over time her career morphed into interviewing since her goals have changed since she first began. [04:41] Kelsey had a newborn when she was writing her book. She typed during nap time for 6 months leading up to finishing up with Chandler and SPS. Most of us are already writing in our heads. All of the stuff we write can be compiled into a book. [05:35] What people want is our perspectives. For me, writing was a lot of compiling and structuring and editing. [06:16] She hired an editor for copy editing. [06:28] Writing is like so many things in life. We can make them worse than they are before we start. Action is the key. The action to writing a book is to sit down and write. [08:04] When Kelsey would get stuck she would go back and read what she had written and that would get the juices flowing again. [08:32] We can spend tons of time reading about how to write a book, but sitting down and writing is the key to getting it done. [09:20] The actual writing of the book took about six months after years of learning and compiling information. [10:26] Kelsey hired Chandler because she needed help getting over the hump and with marketing. [11:12] Test to see what works for you when writing a book. Whether it is an hour a day or all Saturday. [12:43] How writing needs to be focused time, but it doesn't have to be everyday. [13:06] How Kelsey positioned the book for solopreneurs she started broad, but then narrowed in. [15:17] How a specific book for a specific person is more sell-able and will help more people. [16:27] Kelsey offered the first chapter of her book for free with an email list. She also made a video series posted on facebook. The family and friend buy in on facebook was helpful. Looking back they were too long and too detailed, but facebook helped get the word out there. [18:17] People knew Kelsey's story and signed up on her email list to check out her upcoming book. [20:39] If you have a message worth spreading it is your job to get it out. [21:22] Kelsey started with accessible guest posts. Which led her to Dan Miller. Don't underestimate the importance of your inner circle and snowballing your guest endorsements. [24:13] A lot of people said no to Kelsey when she asked for endorsements, but Barbara Corcoran replied and gave her an endorsement. [26:06] Kelsey will spend hours trying to find the correct contact info of a person. [27:16] Keep it short when reaching out. The less you write about yourself the better you do. Make it about the goals of the person who you are reaching out to. [28:59] Kelsey emailed the Entrepreneur editor and pitched guest articles. Once accepted you can pitch to your editor. You have to have writing experience or a really great article. Article writing is also a snow ball pitching technique. [32:39] The importance of thinking about the goal of the person or publication that you are pitching too. [33:18] Being a podcast guest and speaking engagements happened after writing the book. [36:03] Kelsey used video strategically for a marketing tool including her doing book signings Back of room sales at speaking engagements are also great. [37:23] The importance of promoting everything you do, not just sending out a tweet and moving on. Leverage one marketing method into the next things. Put what you do on your website. [38:34] Kelsey decided to do a video show where she met the guests wherever they are instead of just an audio podcast. She made it the best video ever and sent it to her next potential guest. Then it snowballed from big name guest to bigger name guest. [40:39] The key to getting these interviews was in the distribution. [41:59] How Kelsey is in a journalist position and not someone just selling a product. When she gives pitches she tells them what is in it for them. She also creates articles about the interviews. [43:25] How it was incredible interviewing Tony Robbins. Sitting down with Barbara Corcoran was also an incredible full circle experience. [45:04] Successful individual focus on marketing and very strategic with their time. [45:31] If an idea has stuck with you, it is worth pursuing It is your responsibility and job to see it through. Focus on one thing and commit to see the project through. THE STORY Nicole Fajardo, founder and director of THEIT, conceptualized the idea while working as an international flight attendant based in Dubai. Years of experience working in management, marketing and visual design, and a vehement love for fashion took on a new life while she traveled the world and developed an interest in capturing the moments around her through the camera lens. This passion for photography led her to faraway locales, where she dined in Paris, shopped on the side streets of India, and daydreamed along the canals of Venice – the only thing that was missing from these jet-setting travels was a fashionable camera bag to protect her gear. A fruitless search sparked a dream and a vision, and THEIT was launched in 2010. In this episode you’ll hear: How Kelsey made the transition from working full time to working for herself by being brave in the small moments. Kelsey talk about her breaking point and the decision to pursue her passion. How Kelsey found her passion and how her husband helped her. The value of freedom and flexibility in work and life and how Kelsy is positioning her life and business for motherhood. Kelsey's unconventional vacation and travel style. Why Dana thinks Kelsey should wear a ninja outfit and about Kelsey’s 30 day passion challenge. How passion and curiosity go hand in hand. The artists and entrepreneurs that inspired Kelsey's business Can I quote you on that? One night, after a long draining day in the office and a few too many tears, I just decided that I had to listen to my gut, and find the courage to go after what I really wanted. I had no idea what the next step was, but I found very small moments in my day and week and month to really start listening to what I really wanted to do and exploring it. It really was a journey of exploration. Before I knew it, those small moments started to gain momentum and turn into really big ones. Be brave, have courage in the small moments. That is going to make a difference. It wasn’t these big giant moments, it was small small moments of courage. You can’t just find your passion, it’s not like a random needle in a haystack. It is about deciding you want to be more passionate about life. PERIOD. You want to laugh more, you want to feel more, you want to get lost in something more. You have to decide you want to go out and create it. You have to discover and create it and the best way to do that is by dedicating a tiny bit of time a day to really focus on something you think you’ll love. Before you can go out and find your passion, you first need to go out and find your curiosity and live a bit more curiously. Its not always about reaching a goal, its often about doing something you’ve always wanted to do or be someone you’ve always wanted to be.
