⁠Jannan's Homepage Blueprint Web Design Rules Every Business Owner Should Know Your website is your digital home base—a place where potential clients can learn about you, trust you, and ultimately take action. But if your site isn't designed effectively, you could be missing out on opportunities. That's why I sat down with Jannan Poppen, a branding and web designer for coaches and creatives, to discuss the essential web design rules every business owner should know. Jannan has been in business since 2019 and has launched dozens of websites, helping world-changing businesses elevate their impact through intentional design. In our conversation, she shared four key web design rules that can transform your website into a powerful tool for your business. Rule #1: Know the Goal of Your Website Before you worry about aesthetics or content, the most important thing to determine is your website's primary goal. As Jannan explains, “What do you want your website to achieve? What do you want it to do?” Your website should serve a purpose beyond just looking pretty. Some common goals include: Booking a discovery call Growing your email list Selling a product or service Getting people to register for an event or class If you're unsure of your website's goal, start by mapping out your client journey. Ask yourself: what is the first step someone takes when they begin working with you? The answer to that question will help define your website's primary objective. Rule #2: Keep Visitors Moving Through the Site A well-designed website should guide visitors seamlessly from one page to the next. This means using clear calls to action (CTAs) to direct users toward their next step. “A call to action isn't just a button,” Jannan explains. “It's inspiring action through design and words.” Whether it's scheduling a call, signing up for a newsletter, or purchasing a product, your CTAs should be: Clearly visible (bold and easy to find) Actionable (use strong verbs like ‘Book Now' or ‘Get Started') Strategically placed throughout your site If your CTA isn't clear, it's a call to confusion—and a confused visitor is a lost visitor. Rule #3: Show Your Personality A common misconception is that your website should be all about the client. While your messaging should speak to your ideal client's needs, your website is also an opportunity to showcase who you are and what you stand for. “Your site should reflect your brand's personality,” Jannan says. “It should communicate your values and the type of clients you love working with.” This means choosing a design style that aligns with your brand. If you're playful and bold, let that shine through your colors, fonts, and visuals. If your brand is more refined and classic, your design should reflect that as well. Your website is an extension of your brand identity, so make sure it feels like you. Rule #4: Maintain a Consistent Aesthetic Good design isn't just about looking beautiful—it builds trust and credibility. “When your website looks professional, people take your brand seriously,” Jannan notes. A consistent aesthetic means: Using a cohesive color palette and typography Keeping branding elements uniform across all pages Ensuring images and design elements align with your brand's look and feel An inconsistent or cluttered design can make visitors doubt your professionalism. On the other hand, a well-designed site enhances recognition and builds trust with potential clients. Final Thoughts Your website is more than just a digital business card—it's a powerful tool to attract and convert your ideal clients. Adysen Poppen was nominated as a Beck's Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the field and court. What she loves most about high school sports is spending time together, lifting weights, working out, practicing, and playing games with her teammates. The friendships she has formed on the court continue off the court as well. Sports have also taught her important lessons about discipline, perseverance, and pushing her limits. Adysen is involved in volleyball, basketball, track, student council, Spanish club, FFA, and the National Honor Society. In her free time, she volunteers at local sporting events taking care of the softball and soccer scoreboard, helping with football chains, and working the concession stand. She also volunteers at the summer vacation bible school program. Agriculture is very important to Adysen. Both of her grandfathers are farmers, so she has grown up learning about the significance of agriculture. This has helped her appreciate where her food comes from. Although Adysen's future plans are still uncertain, she has developed an interest in pursuing a degree in physical therapy after tearing her ACL once sophomore year and then again senior year. It's Hump Day! Sam speaks with Daniel Poppen, member of the union organizing committee at the Trader Joe's location in the North Center neighborhood of Chicago, to discuss the staff's decision to file for a union election. Then, he speaks with Matt Bruenig, founder of the People's Policy Project, author of the NLRB Edge newsletter, and co-host of “The Bruenigs” podcast, to discuss his recent NLRB filing against Steven Crowder. First, Sam reacts to State Dept. spokesperson Matthew Miller refusing to answer the Associated Press's Matt Lee's question about why they've been unable to verify whether Israel struck an Iranian diplomatic target in Syria. Then, Sam's joined by Dan Poppen as they take us through the steps that led the Trader Joe's North Center location in Chicago to vote for a union election. Dan discusses some of the issues that have been facing Trader Joe's workers, the inspiration they've received from other unionizing Trader Joe's locations around the country, and what they can anticipate going forward after the vote totals are finalized. Then, Sam is joined by Matt Bruenig to discuss his representation of Jared Monroe, AKA "Not Gay Jared", the former "Louder With Crowder" employee, who has filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) against Steven Crowder and the company. Bruenig outlines the main pillars that constitute the NLRB complaint, and provides some context to Jared's experience while working for Steven Crowder, what that entailed, and what they're hoping to achieve as the complaint is arbitrated and decided upon. And in the Fun Half, Sam reacts to Google employees demonstrating and conducting sit-ins against Google's work with Israel in their New York and California offices. He and Matt then check in on Speaker Johnson's tightrope walk, attempting to pass a supplemental foreign aid bill, which his far-right faction doesn't want. Johnson, who's now referring to him as a "wartime Speaker", is losing soldiers as an outline has been revealed, with Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry complaining that there's no border funding in the legislation (it was in another bill that Perry and his cohort didn't support). On the other end, former Kevin McCarthy confidant Rep. Garret Graves asks the all-important question: "What are Republicans getting" from this supplemental? And now, Speaker Johnson is only being offered tepid support from former President Trump, who is now willing to wait and see what happens to him with the motion to vacate looming over his head. Sam and Matt then turn to Trump's hush money trial, with Trump attorney and spokesperson Alina Habba telling Fox's Martha McCallum that Trump will be regarded like *wait for it* Nelson Mandela if he were to be put in jail for violating his gag order. Sam covers the recent Politico scoop of comedian Rob Schneider tanking a performance in front of Senate Republicans and their staffers, before diving into Trump's recent rally this weekend where he heard chants of "Genocide Joe!", to which he responded in part by saying: "You're not wrong". And, finally, Sam and Matt step into Dave Rubin's corner, where Rubin discusses his concerns about his inability to "arbitrage" the divide between the left and the right. Poor Things | Weirdes Frankenstein-Märchen Beim Gedanken an den Frankenstein-Mythos assoziieren wir normalerweise nicht erblühende Sexualität und Emanzipation. Jedoch ist genau dies eines der zentralen Themen in "Poor Things", dem neuesten Werk von Yorgos Lanthimos, dem Regisseur von "The Lobster". Der Film gewann den Goldenen Löwen bei den Internationalen Filmfestspielen von Venedig im letzten Jahr und hat sicherlich auch dieses Jahr gute Chancen auf die eine oder andere Oscar-Nominierung. In de meeste gevallen zijn het de ouders die de baby's te eten geven. Maar toen onderzoekers een mierenkolonie aan het bestuderen waren, zagen ze iets opmerkelijks. Poppen zijn mieren in hun coconfase. En wat doe je als je een pop bent in een cocon? Vrij weinig. Mieren in deze fase van hun leven staan niet bepaald bekend om hun actieve bijdrage aan het kolonieleven. Ze liggen daar maar een beetje te liggen, dachten we. Maar al die tijd zagen we iets over het hoofd. Iets wat onderzoekers nu toch hebben gespot: mierenpoppen voorzien de hele kolonie van een nutriëntrijke vloeistof. Een soort melk.   Net uitgekomen mierenlarven kunnen niet zonder deze melk, een beetje zoals de meeste zoogdieren iets vergelijkbaars nodig hebben aan het begin van hun leven. Ook de volwassen mieren consumeren het goedje dat door de poppen wordt aangemaakt. En dat moet ook wel, want anders hoopt het op, raakt het beschimmeld en sterven de mierenpoppen.  De onderzoekers willen nu nog dieper duiken in de sociale functie van deze melkkringloop. Zo zou het bijvoorbeeld weleens zo kunnen zijn dat de toegang tot de melk mede bepaalt of een larve een koningin of werkmier wordt. An accident at age sixteen caused a spinal-cord injury that left Brent Poppen paralyzed. This was a beginning to journeys he never dreamed as he became one of the top disabled athletes in the world. Poppen competed in two consecutive Paralympics, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, in wheelchair rugby and tennis. He earned a Bronze Medal in wheelchair rugby and has received numerous Gold Medals and world titles in both sports. Now, Poppen serves as a rehabilitation counselor at Children's Hospital in Fresno California. He is also an author, substitute teacher, counselor and motivational speaker.
