This week, the panel begins by reviewing The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar, Wes Anderson's faithful adaptation of a 1977 Roald Dahl short story, that doubles as a sumptuous meta-commentary on the director's exacting approach to his craft. Then, the three discuss The Super Models, Apple TV+'s docu-series that glossily chronicles the lives and careers of Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista, a.k.a. The It Girls of ‘90s fashion. Finally, they puzzle through a controversy sweeping the behavioral science community: What happens when so-called “lying experts” falsify their own data? Recent allegations against well-known thought leaders in the field, Francesca Gino and her frequent collaborator, Dan Ariely, have unleashed a host of ethical issues and questions within the academic sphere. In the exclusive Slate Plus segment, the panel honors Spooky Season by sharing their first encounters with terrifying movies. Email us at culturefest@slate.com. Endorsements: Dana: Joni Mitchell, the celebrated singer-songwriter, recently released Archives – Volume 3: The Asylum Years (1972-1975), a five-CD box set of archival treasures: never-before-heard demos, unearthed session outtakes, and recordings of live performances. (Also, if you're not a Mitchell fan, what are you even doing here?) Julia: Julia has doubled down and listened raptly to every episode of Strike Force Five, the late-night host podcast from Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver. Apparently, the men eventually found their groove! It's an unusual product that reveals much about their respective talents. Stephen: Lydia Loveless, an amazing alt-country songwriter, and her superlatively strong sixth album, Nothing's Gonna Stand in My Way Again. Stephen endorses Loveless so enthusiastically, he's even created a playlist of his favorite songs of hers: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3vAPq5ZGCRB3kJLOFzZ4rF?si=4a4d5619bb6e40c0&nd=1 Outro music: “Break The Line” by Coma Svensson Podcast production by Cameron Drews. Podcast recommendation - Strike Force Five. Funny stuff. We talk some Mickelson admissions, football weekend reaction. Unbridled optimism in Dallas this week. Jeff is unavailable, as his kidnappers will not let us talk to him without some sort of ransom. Walter tried to cough and sneeze up a lung on the show as he goes a little horse. Talk show are at an interesting inflection point. Drew Barrymore and Bill Maher have recently decided to go back on the air, sans writers, drawing the ire of some union supporters. Then there are the late night hosts, who have banded together to form the podcast Strike Force Five... in the midst of controversy surrounding Jimmy Fallon, who was the subject of a Rolling Stone expose about a toxic work environment at "The Tonight Show." Eric Deggans, TV critic for NPR, joins us to break down all the recent talk show news. *This segment is guest-hosted by Tiffany Hanssen.
Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, John Oliver, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy Fallon have teamed up to start a new podcast that raises funds for their striking WGA staff. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Okay so it's been a little while. But here we are again, and boy have things gotten interesting. Writers and actors have gone on strike and now movie releases have been pushed back and most talk shows have been on hiatus until the writers come back and hosts can be funny again. Well sort of. Neil tells us about "Strike Force Five" which is a podcast put together by several late night talk show hosts in order to support their striking writers, Neil's also read a book about show writers called "End Credits" which he'll talk about. And there's also some scandals and mysteries surrounding Jimmy Fallon and Jamie Foxx which we'll get into.Bill McCuddy fills us in on the popular Netflix series "Who Is Erin Carter" as well as the Adam Sandler Netflix movie "You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah. And if you like to see movies in thears don't worry. Bill Bregoli has managed to see six of them: "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3," "The Equalizer 3" (with Denzel Washington), the dirty talking dog comedy "Strays," the Liam Neeson action movie "Retribution," the lesbian comedy "Bottoms" and the sort of true story based on a video game called "Gran Turismo." Plenty to keep you going on these waning days of summer. Recently, late night talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver and Jimmy Kimmel started the chat podcast Strike Force Five to raise money and support their staff during the actors and writers strikes. Shortly after it launched, an investigation in Rolling Stone outlined allegations of erratic and aggressive behavior by Jimmy Fallon and a generally terrible working environment at The Tonight Show. So now, this unusual project finds itself in an awkward position.

20% desses podcasts foram difundidos no Spotify for Podcasters.
