A lot of things are on track to get more expensive. The U.S. Treasury market is the bedrock of the global economy. When yields on those Treasuries go up, mortgages, car loans and credit cards get more expensive, and it can hit the stock market, too. And yields have been going up – to levels we haven't seen consistently since before the Great Recession – inspiring some erratic and futile efforts from the Trump administration to push them back down. So why are yields creeping higher? What is the administration trying to do about it? And if this continues, what's in store for the economy? OA1291 - This week on Rapid Response Friday: the single biggest consumer protection settlement ever reached with any U.S. company puts new guardrails on younger social media users, a federal judge refuses to let Steve Bannon off the hook just because DOJ asked him to, an under-the-radar example of ICE's determination to get around federal court orders, and Trump's new war on how law schools are accredited. Finally in today's footnote, we honor absolute legend Dolly Parton with a cosmic coincidence: a special shoutout in a federal judicial decision published on the day we lost her. An enormous scandal is unfolding in Latin America, which says everything about politics in the 21st century. Far-right Argentine election meddling specialist Fernando Cerimedo was arrested in Bolivia after hiring hitmen to try to assassinate his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Nadia Beller. They failed, and she is now revealing the truth. Cerimedo has deep links to the US government and Donald Trump's top allies, such as Marco Rubio. Cerimedo worked for many US-backed right-wing leaders in Latin America, including Argentina's Javier Milei, Bolivia's Rodrigo Paz, Brazil's Bolsonaro family, and Honduras' Nasry "Tito" Asfura. Cerimedo is now also being investigated for drug trafficking. Ben Norton explains this insane scandal, which exposes how powerful US-backed right-wing groups, with funding from rich oligarchs, are manipulating elections and destroying democracy. Sunscreen is supposed to protect us from dangerous stuff like cancer, but all over social media, people are saying that we've been getting it all wrong. We're being told that our sunscreen is full of toxic chemicals, that wearing it could mess with our vitamin D levels — even that sunscreen itself actually increases our risk of skin cancer. So, what can the science tell us here? Should we toss our SPF-filled creams and sprays in the bin?? And could the answer here be different depending on your skin tone? We talk to researchers Dr. Brandon Adler, Prof. Rachel Neale, and Dr. Adewole Adamson to find out. Find our transcript here: https://tinyurl.com/ScienceVsSunscreen In this episode, we cover: (00:00) The internet freak-out over sunscreen (05:06) Is sunscreen toxic? (20:46) Does sunscreen mess with vitamin D? (29:29) Does sunscreen work to prevent skin cancer? (34:40) Do people with darker skin need sunscreen? (44:38) How to wear sunscreen correctly This episode was produced by Michelle Dang, with help from Meryl Horn, Rose Rimler and Ekedi Fausther-Keeys. We're edited by Blythe Terrell. I want to alert you, so you don’t miss out on expert analysis and insider perspectives from my guests who provide tips that can help you uplift the community, improve your financial planning, motivation, or advice on how to be a successful entrepreneur. Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Nidhi Singhvi. Co-founder and CEO of OnVault, an AI-powered financial platform designed to help consumers value, track, and sell their gold jewelry. The conversation explores how millions of Americans may be sitting on untapped wealth in the form of jewelry and other precious metal assets without realizing their true value. Singvi discusses the mission behind OnVault: transforming personal jewelry from a forgotten possession into a transparent, trackable financial asset. By combining artificial intelligence, mobile technology, and financial education, OnVault aims to empower consumers to understand, manage, and monetize the value of their jewelry. Purpose of the Interview The interview was designed to: Introduce OnVault and explain how AI is changing jewelry valuation. Educate consumers about the hidden value of gold jewelry and tangible assets. Promote financial literacy through asset awareness. Explain how technology can provide transparency in jewelry sales and valuation. Challenge the negative perceptions associated with pawn shops and traditional jewelry resale. Demonstrate how dormant assets can become tools for financial flexibility and wealth-building. Key Takeaways 1. Many Americans Are Sitting on Hidden Wealth Nidhi Singvi estimates that hundreds of billions of dollars in gold jewelry are sitting unused in homes across America. Most people view jewelry as sentimental possessions rather than financial assets. 2. Jewelry Should Be Treated Like Other Assets Consumers regularly track the value of stocks, homes, cars, and collectibles. Singvi argues that jewelry should be viewed similarly, especially gold jewelry whose value fluctuates with market prices. 3. AI Makes Valuation Easier and More Accessible OnVault allows users to upload photos of their jewelry and receive an AI-generated valuation. The platform analyzes factors such as: Gold content Weight Construction type Age and style of the piece Current gold market prices This eliminates the need for expensive appraisals or visits to jewelry stores. 4. Transparency Is the Company's Core Differentiator Singvi repeatedly emphasizes transparency as a key advantage over traditional resale channels. Customers receive: Detailed valuation reports Video documentation of inspections Explanations of how offers are calculated Breakdowns of gold, gemstone, and diamond values 5. The Traditional Pawn Shop Experience Needs Reinvention A major theme of the discussion is the emotional discomfort people often associate with pawn shops. Singvi believes technology can remove the stigma, uncertainty, and lack of transparency that consumers frequently experience. 6. Financial Literacy Should Include Tangible Assets The interview highlights that financial education often focuses on: Budgeting Saving Investing Credit Singvi believes consumers should also understand the value of physical assets they already own. 7. Gold Remains an Important Asset Class Singvi explains that gold has experienced significant appreciation and has outperformed many traditional investment indexes over extended periods. She encourages consumers to understand how gold pricing affects jewelry values. 8. OnVault's Long-Term Vision Extends Beyond Jewelry Sales The company's vision includes helping consumers: Track jewelry values Sell jewelry Access loans using jewelry-backed portfolios Obtain insurance coverage Manage jewelry as part of a broader financial plan 9. AI Vision Technology Created the Opportunity Advances in AI image recognition now allow OnVault to analyze a simple photograph and estimate a jewelry item's dimensions and value with a high level of confidence. 10. Convenience Drives Adoption Users can complete the valuation process from home using only a smartphone and a web browser, removing many of the barriers traditionally associated with jewelry appraisal and resale. Notable Quotes On OnVault's Mission "We want to start with the education of gold and jewelry as an asset." On Consumer Empowerment "We want people to understand their jewelry before they even think of selling it." On Transparency "We send you the entire video of the process." On Understanding Value "That entire evaluation is just for the customer to know a little bit more before selling their jewelry." On Financial Awareness "Jewelry is actually one of the most real assets you can own." On Consumer Education "First is understand it, then you can sell wherever you want to sell." On Hidden Wealth "There is a lot of gold in the U.S. We think of it as an asset class." On the Company's Mission "We want there to be respect in this process of understanding the value and then selling jewelry." On Future Services "We can help you sell your jewelry. We can give you loans on top of it. We can help you insure it." On AI's Role "We could actually take a photo of a ring and understand its dimensions." On Accessibility "We don't want you to leave home. We want you to do that piece at home so that everything else becomes easier." On Simplifying Wealth Discovery "The process takes 60 seconds." On Long-Term Impact "We are changing people's perception on jewelry." Bottom Line The interview positions OnVault as a modern financial technology platform that seeks to unlock the hidden value of personal jewelry through AI, transparency, and financial education. Nidhi Singvi's central message is that many consumers already own valuable assets but lack the tools to understand and leverage them. By making valuation simple, transparent, and accessible, OnVault aims to transform jewelry from a forgotten possession into a meaningful component of personal wealth and financial planning. #BEST #SHMS #STRAW Money Making Conversations Master Class with Rushion McDonald is America's premier entrepreneurship, business leadership, financial literacy, and wealth-building podcast featuring successful entrepreneurs, executives, founders, celebrities, and industry experts sharing actionable insights for professional and financial success. Seventy thousand people build a city in the desert, survive on almost nothing they didn't bring themselves, and take it all down again — with no trash cans and no cleanup crew. This conversation was filmed live on the Aegean coast in Kaplankaya, Turkey, at Harvest Series, an annual thought leadership gathering where Jeff served as this year's MC. Jeff sits down with Marian Goodell, CEO of Burning Man, to unpack how radical self-reliance and communal effort somehow produce cooperation at a scale almost nothing else in modern life does. Why Burning Man works with no rubbish bins, no vendors, and no one enforcing cleanup The origin story: a beach bonfire 40 years ago that became Black Rock City How the 10 principles balance self-reliance against gifting and communal effort Why adversity — rain, dust storms, scarcity — is part of what bonds the community The global expansion into regional burns across 80+ countries Marian's own path to leading Burning Man, and why she wants more young people there This episode is for anyone curious about Burning Man beyond the headlines, and anyone interested in how large groups actually build trust and cooperate at scale.Video courtesy of Harvest Series — with thanks to the Harvest team for having us out there and making this conversation possible. Caller Questions & Discussion: Dr. Jill explains how being in a dissociative state can leave you feeling unsafe and vulnerable. While awareness can be painful, leaning into it can help us let go of old defenses that are no longer needed. My daughter is married to a controlling man who threatens her with divorce and doesn't want to be intimate with her. He only sees their baby for half an hour a day. As a parent, what's the best advice I can give her? My granddaughter got saved and asked me to baptize her; is it biblical for a woman to baptize? My husband was a pastor who fell from grace, and no one has seen him in 15 years. It's very hard for me to accept a compliment. When people say nice things about me, I say, “It's not true.” How can I learn to accept compliments? I'm legally separated, and so is my boyfriend. We've been dating for three years and plan to marry after our divorces are final. I'm worried that if I stop having sex until marriage, I may lose him. What should I do?
Last year, Daniel Kokotajlo and his colleagues published AI 2027 — a scenario read by millions, including US Vice President Vance. AI 2027 ended in human extinction or an irreversible concentration of power caused by superintelligent AI. Now his team has published what they think should happen instead.AI 2040: Plan A depicts the US and China striking a verified deal to ban runaway intelligence explosions, so that superintelligence arrives in 2040 — after a cautious decade spent solving alignment, spreading the technology's power widely, and keeping the whole thing reversible — rather than in the next few years. This slowdown would still involve economic growth roughly doubling every year, and only 8% of Americans in paid work by the mid-2030s. In other words, it's a slowdown that would feel faster than any period in human history — bewildering, materially abundant, and socially chaotic all at once.Daniel and host Luisa Rodriguez dig into what it would take to enact this vision for the future, how the US and China could come to an agreement to slow down AI development, and the likeliest alternatives to Plan A — both good and disastrous.Learn more, video, and full transcript: https://80k.info/dk26This episode was recorded July 27–28, 2026.Chapters:Who's Daniel Kokotajlo? A fatal collision at Carlisle Airport in Pennsylvania on August 19 raises important questions about what happened in the final seconds of two aircraft sharing the same airspace. In this episode of Flight Safety Detectives, Todd Curtis and John Goglia examine the known facts surrounding the collision between a Cessna 150H and a Pennsylvania State Police Bell 407GX helicopter. The crash killed the Cessna pilot and injured both occupants of the police helicopter. The helicopter had completed its approach and was taxiing in a low hover just off the right side of the runway. Video of the accident sequence appears to show the Cessna pulling up sharply in the final seconds before the collision. Todd and John carefully walk through what is known about the accident and what remains unknown. The NTSB investigation is still in its early stages, and the Flight Safety Detectives emphasize the importance of separating established facts from speculation. What happened in those final moments? What information will investigators need to determine how the collision occurred? And what can—and can't—be concluded at this stage? Watch as Todd and John break down the available facts while avoiding premature conclusions about the cause of the accident. Caller Questions & Discussion: Dr. Jim discusses the challenges of the sandwich generation—balancing parenting with caring for aging parents—and shares practical tips for managing emotional, relational, physical, and spiritual stress. Remember: self-care isn't selfish. I'm 61 and have two older sisters. The middle sister is very toxic. As a Christian, how much should I put myself out there when she is very hard to deal with? She insults me from head to toe. My 91-year-old mom has people trying to hack her computer. I had a major financial loss from being hacked myself. I'm really struggling in both the spiritual and physical realm; trust is hard. How should I move forward if I am doing most of the work to heal our marriage? Since the porn has been blocked, my husband is spending like crazy. And a woman at work is buying him gifts. He's a good man and we have a lot of things in common, but I'm not sure if I should stay.

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Wednesday!! You guys know we record same-day, which means we get to open with actual breaking news: Meta agreed to a $17 BILLION settlement in the child safety trial. Harrison dusts off his finance-guy trick for understanding any settlement (go straight to the stock price.. what it did tells you everything) and we get into what actually changes for kids: time restrictions and nighttime blockouts. And while we're being all professional and stuff lol, Alex shares how she beat her 2 AM heartburn after Prilosec, Tums AND Pepto all failed. The winner? Baking soda and water. (NOT medical advice.. she literally ate a bag of chips first as a strategy lol) It's not until after ALL of this that we finally welcome you back to the episode :-) and Alex starts out hot. Backstory: she posted a TikTok about letting Tate wear her helmet and while mommy ALSO wears her helmet (red light mask).. and a comment saying "it's okay to tell her no" racked up over a thousand likes. So you're telling me a thousand people think we should say no to a toddler wearing a HELMET for fun?! Video two was born, the internet responded, and the ratio has spoken

Send us Fan MailSelecting a modern FP&A platform such as Datarails is no longer simply a budgeting or software decision. It is an architectural choice that influences forecasting agility, data governance, cross-functional collaboration, and executive visibility across the organization. As CPM and EPM platforms continue to evolve, finance leaders must look beyond feature comparisons and evaluate underlying data models, integration strategies, scalability, and long-term operational fit. In this session, we examine FP&A platform selection through an architectural lens rather than a tooling exercise, highlighting why this perspective is essential for organizations transitioning from spreadsheet-driven planning to scalable, enterprise-grade finance operations. In this episode, Sam Gupta and Shrestha Dash from ElevatIQ, Andy Pratico from Essential Software Solutions, and Phil Coerper from Ringling Business Solutions conduct an in-depth independent review of a leading FP&A platform Datarails.Video: https://www.elevatiq.com/events-and-webinars/datarails-an-independent-in-depth-review/Questions for Panelists?

In 2024, Americans spent an average of six full workdays a year filling out government forms, according to the government's own estimates. That's a total of 12 billion hours, or $430 billion of uncompensated labor a year. It's easy to read something like this and say: “Oh, well, government is inefficient. That's the price we pay for nice things.” But no, it's not. Social Security, Medicare and the Postal Service are incredibly complex programs that are easy to use. When government is hard to gain access to, it is often by design. Republicans want paying taxes to be a hellish hassle. Programs for the poor are often designed to humiliate, punish, control or scrutinize. How the government works is always a choice. When it works poorly, we should ask why — and we should demand better. Annie Lowrey is a staff writer at The Atlantic and the author of the new book “The Time Tax: How the Government Wastes Our Time — and How to Fix It.” She is also, I should note, my wife, so this is a book whose ideas I have been living with for years. They have quietly infused more than a few episodes of this show. So it's a thrill to finally get to explore them directly. This episode contains strong language.
