When COVID-related shutdowns started wreaking havoc on businesses, jobs, and paychecks, the US Government came to the rescue, providing a financial life preserver worth trillions of dollars. However, as the money flowed to individual bank accounts in the form of Paycheck Protection Program loans and Labor Department-backed state unemployment checks, fraudsters, identity thieves, and cybercriminals were salivating at the chance to take it. Today, Mike and Mark welcome US Secret Service Agent Roy Dotson to the show.  Roy has been in law enforcement for over 30 years, 20 of which have been dedicated to the US Secret Service, protecting eight US Presidents.  He is an expert on cybercrime fraud, money laundering, and asset forfeiture, having led over 100 successful investigations and recovered over $4 billion in victim assets.  Roy currently serves as the US Secret Service's National Pandemic Recovery Coordinator. Tweetable Quotes: “The concern is because food becomes very unappetizing because of the smell, people can start losing weight and, in fact, it can have some mental health challenges, including feeling depressed.” (03:37) (Dr. Brian) “A little different than last week's discussion of smell training when people lost the sense of smell after COVID. When there's distorted smell, there's types of smell training. And this really focuses mostly on fruity flavors, flowery flavors, sometimes spicy. Lemon or rose or eucalyptus or clove; using all these your room might just smell like you're at a spa.” (05:17) (Dr. Brian) “Typically foods that are more bland can be better tolerated because they don't trigger as much smell. And that can range from just vegetables, or oatmeal, or cereals for example.” (06:07) (Dr. Brian) “Parosmia occurs in about ten percent of people after they've had COVID. Smell training can help. Tweetable Quotes: “In the nose there are these receptors at the end of what's called the olfactory nerve. IT's the nerve connecting to the brain where people smell. It's kinda the smell nerve if you will. And what can happen is the virus can damage the ends of those nerves and the cells in the nose.” (03:48) (Dr. Brian) “It was awesome, one of my favorite pizzas. So, I'm eating it and I'm saying to my kids and my wife, ‘This pizza doesn't really have much taste. I remember this pizza being really good.' And I'm eating some more and it kinda tasted like cardboard. This was really weird.” (04:51) (Dr. Brian) “There's certain substances that if people smell it for about twenty seconds for two to three times a day, over time it can stimulate those olfactory, or smell nerves, in the nose.” (06:40) (Dr. Brian) “Also, taking things that are decongestants if somebody isn't feeling well is important to help clear up any sort of inflammation that could be active at the time. That can help as well.” (08:48) (Dr. Brian) Links Mentioned: DM Dr. Brian your questions and we will respond back with answers - https://v.cameo.com/F5MH0Hglnmb (https://v.cameo.com/F5MH0Hglnmb) https://www.boxerwachler.com/ (Dr. Brian's Website) https://www.tiktok.com/@brianboxerwachlermd? Last week in part 1 of our series on the Bible, we heard some sound bites from a sermon by pastor Alistair Begg, addressing important questions about the Bible, such as: How exactly is the Bible the “inspired of God”? Does the Bible have the central place in our lives and church? What is the structure of the Bible and its main theme? Why is the Bible different and better than Christian books? This week in part 2, we are going to hear more sound bites from the messages by Alistair Begg and discuss where the rubber meets the road with Scripture—how to accurately interpret it. In other words, discovering what God intended to communicate as He guided those who wrote the various books of the Bible. It's not “what the Bible means to me” but rather “what God means in the Bible”. Scripture commands us to “accurately handle the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). If we and the church mishandle Scripture, God is misrepresented and humans are misled. What could be more serious than that? So please join us this weekend on The Christian Worldview as we discuss interpreting the Bible, including the message of Christmas with Christ coming into our world. The Foundation's COVID Emergency Fund provided funding for 37 grantees of Kessler Foundation's employment grant program. In this mini-series, we explore how our COVID emergency grants supported these nonprofits as they adapted to a new reality, enabling us to continue toward our common goal – helping individuals with disabilities reach their goals of independence and self-sufficiency. In this episode, I spoke with Purna Rodman, President & CEO at Pillar Care Continuum, of Livingston, New Jersey. Pillar Care Continuum operated 15 group homes that needed to provide around-the-clock care for adults with severe disabilities and medical challenges. While most residents formerly spent their days in day programs, these programs closed during the pandemic, thus creating a need for a third shift of staff members. The Foundations Emergency Grant enabled staff members shift/dedication bonuses to continue 24-hour care. I gdy nastała ta momentalna technologiczna zmiana, gdy zostaliśmy tak naprawdę przymusowo przesunięci do pracy zdalnej, to nastąpił gwałtowny pęd ku transformacji cyfrowej.

Will the Government's much vaunted radical reforms to the planning system allow Development Consent Orders (DCOs) to apply to large-scale, residential-led development proposals? It is an idea that has been around since DCOs, as wells as NPSs and NSIPs, were introduced by the Planning Act 2008, but perhaps now it's time has come. As well as considering the efficacy of the DCO regime as it relates to infrastructure projects, an expanded DCO regime is considered in a report by Barton Willmore, Copper, Womble Bond Dickinson and Hannah Hickman. This week we're joined by the incredibly passionate Michael Patterson, cannabis expert and CEO at US Cannabis Pharmaceutical Research and Development. Together, we discuss Michael's worldwide business operations, why big cannabis want a piece of the market in Europe, and the ways in which Covid-19 has affected the cannabis market.Episode SummaryBy training, Michael is a healthcare executive and occupational therapist and has a wealth of experience in the industry, including running a nursing home group worth $230m. In 2014, Michael connected with a war veteran, Saul who had been using opiates for chronic back pain sustained in service. At the time, he was withdrawing from opiates and was interested in using medical cannabis for his pain. This encounter inspired Michael to take action, and so he entered the cannabis industry to help other people like Saul.In 2014, Michael founded US Cannabis Pharmaceutical Research and Development. The company is focused on moving society forward through legalized Cannabis and Hemp. They consult, collaborate, and partner in all aspects of the industry including, but not limited to, investment analysis, R&D, operations and compliance management, international transport and trade, laws-regulation, technology (blockchain, crypto), licensing, banking, cultivation/processing/dispensing, and economic development. The company currently have 5 medical cannabis licenses in Africa (Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho) and one in Portugal. They also import and export cannabis products into and out of Europe, and are contracted to grow cannabis for THC in Africa.Michael founded US Cannabis Pharmaceutical Research and Development are also working with companies across the world within the areas of software, blockchain, and cryptocurrency.THC is considered an ‘API' or an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient, which is then sold to pharmaceutical companies to process and make medicine from. In the USA, the average proportion of a state who qualify for medical cannabis is 2-5%.Big Cannabis is interested in the European market as medicine in this part of the world tends to me more socialised and the government tends to pay for medicines. The population of Europe is much larger than the USA, so many of the big players from North America are hoping to gain market share in the EU as the market develops.CBD processing plants in the US are diversifying as there is a trend towards growing hemp for fibre and industrial uses.In the USA, access to cannabis is considered essential during Covid-19, which legitimises it as a medicine.93% of Americans want medical cannabis legalised, and 65% want recreational cannabis legal. Many of the states in the USA who did not previously allow home delivery have now been forced to due to the pandemic. Sales of flower and edibles have also risen during this time.Michael believes that public safety, patient access and commerce all need to work together in harmony for the system to become/remain successful. QuotablesMoving into 2021, you're going to start to see a bigger interest from pharmaceutical companies who want to get more involved [with cannabis] 13:38The EU is where to be. Everybody wants to be there. 14:20Covid-19 will legitimise cannabis as a medicine 31:10ResourcesJoin Michael on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michael-patterson-nha-otr-l-ceas-88485051/USCPRD Website: http://www.uscprd.com/
