One year ago, Anthropic launched the Model Context Protocol (MCP)—a simple, open standard to connect AI applications to the data and tools they need. Today, MCP has exploded from a local-only experiment into the de facto protocol for agentic systems, adopted by OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, Block, and hundreds of enterprises building internal agents at scale. And now, MCP is joining the newly formed Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) under the Linux Foundation, alongside Block's Goose coding agent, with founding members spanning the biggest names in AI and cloud infrastructure. We sat down with David Soria Parra (MCP lead, Anthropic), Nick Cooper (OpenAI), Brad Howes (Block / Goose), and Jim Zemlin (Linux Foundation CEO) to dig into the one-year journey of MCP—from Thanksgiving hacking sessions and the first remote authentication spec to long-running tasks, MCP Apps, and the rise of agent-to-agent communication—and the behind-the-scenes story of how three competitive AI labs came together to donate their protocols and agents to a neutral foundation, why enterprises are deploying MCP servers faster than anyone expected (most of it invisible, internal, and at massive scale), what it takes to design a protocol that works for both simple tool calls and complex multi-agent orchestration, how the foundation will balance taste-making (curating meaningful projects) with openness (avoiding vendor lock-in), and the 2025 vision: MCP as the communication layer for asynchronous, long-running agents that work while you sleep, discover and install their own tools, and unlock the next order of magnitude in AI productivity. We discuss: The one-year MCP journey: from local stdio servers to remote HTTP streaming, OAuth 2.1 authentication (and the enterprise lessons learned), long-running tasks, and MCP Apps (iframes for richer UI) Why MCP adoption is exploding internally at enterprises: invisible, internal servers connecting agents to Slack, Linear, proprietary data, and compliance-heavy workflows (financial services, healthcare) The authentication evolution: separating resource servers from identity providers, dynamic client registration, and why the March spec wasn't enterprise-ready (and how June fixed it) How Anthropic dogfoods MCP: internal gateway, custom servers for Slack summaries and employee surveys, and why MCP was born from "how do I scale dev tooling faster than the company grows?" Tasks: the new primitive for long-running, asynchronous agent operations—why tools aren't enough, how tasks enable deep research and agent-to-agent handoffs, and the design choice to make tasks a "container" (not just async tools) MCP Apps: why iframes, how to handle styles and branding, seat selection and shopping UIs as the killer use case, and the collaboration with OpenAI to build a common standard The registry problem: official registry vs. curated sub-registries (Smithery, GitHub), trust levels, model-driven discovery, and why MCP needs "npm for agents" (but with signatures and HIPAA/financial compliance) The founding story of AAIF: how Anthropic, OpenAI, and Block came together (spoiler: they didn't know each other were talking to Linux Foundation), why neutrality matters, and how Jim Zemlin has never seen this much day-one inbound interest in 22 years — David Soria Parra (Anthropic / MCP) MCP: https://modelcontextprotocol.io https://uk.linkedin.com/in/david-soria-parra-4a78b3a https://x.com/dsp_ Nick Cooper (OpenAI) X: https://x.com/nicoaicopr Brad Howes (Block / Goose) Goose: https://github.com/block/goose Jim Zemlin (Linux Foundation) LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/zemlin/ Agentic AI Foundation https://agenticai.foundation Chapters 00:00:00 Introduction: MCP's First Year and Foundation Launch 00:01:17 MCP's Journey: From Launch to Industry Standard 00:02:06 Protocol Evolution: Remote Servers and Authentication 00:08:52 Enterprise Authentication and Financial Services 00:11:42 Transport Layer Challenges: HTTP Streaming and Scalability 00:15:37 Standards Development: Collaboration with Tech Giants 00:34:27 Long-Running Tasks: The Future of Async Agents 00:30:41 Discovery and Registries: Building the MCP Ecosystem 00:30:54 MCP Apps and UI: Beyond Text Interfaces 00:26:55 Internal Adoption: How Anthropic Uses MCP 00:23:15 Skills vs MCP: Complementary Not Competing 00:36:16 Community Events and Enterprise Learnings 01:03:31 Foundation Formation: Why Now and Why Together 01:07:38 Linux Foundation Partnership: Structure and Governance 01:11:13 Goose as Reference Implementation 01:17:28 Principles Over Roadmaps: Composability and Quality 01:21:02 Foundation Value Proposition: Why Contribute 01:27:49 Practical Investments: Events, Tools, and Community 01:34:58 Looking Ahead: Async Agents and Real Impact

Starting with what we thought was EVERYONE'S favorite segment (spoilers, it's not), the crew keeps the game-state analysis flowing with another entry in the Looking For Lethal series. From there the main segment hits and covers a wide range of topics – what balance changes may be coming down the pipeline, new ancestries for the beta, and new classes for the regular version of the game. There's no shortage of talk on the impact and analysis these changes will have on the game. There's a brief highlight on a class performance spreadsheet from StefP and Scorium plus Jseph's article regarding Tavern Brawl match-making. The roar of engines is just the opening note. What started as a handful of car lovers swapping stories in the 1970s has become a weekend that fills Bowman's Main Street, books every hotel, and draws families from across the Upper Midwest. We sit down with Ryan Shear and Kevin Hilton from the Dakota Territory Car Club to share how a leadership reset and a back-to-basics approach transformed a small-town show into a regional anchor between Bismarck-Mandan and Cool Deadwood Nights. We dig into the club's secret sauce: show up, help out, and make it easy for people to belong. Membership swelled from a few dozen to nearly 200, with more than half joining for the social life as much as the chrome. Along the way, the club turned community need into action—staffing parades, serving burgers at show-and-shines, running indoor trunk-or-treat when the weather bites, and raising over $14,000 in one evening for a local medical benefit. That service-first mindset powers a weekend designed for neighbors and travelers alike: Friday night socials with pre-registration and vehicle previews, a Saturday morning breakfast, streets lined with cars, and kids' games that keep the youngest gearheads smiling. We also spotlight the classic car auction that now caps at 50 lots for quality and pace. It's a Main Street spectacle that draws bidders from across the country and sends cars to new garages far beyond county lines. When the sun drops, the stage lights up for a free concert funded by local donors and sponsors—a promise that keeps the event welcoming and the sidewalks packed. Expect practical details on dates, how to pre-register for free until June, where to consign for the sale, and why this weekend has become a can't-miss stop on the summer calendar.Love what we're building? Subscribe, share this with a friend who loves classic cars, and leave a quick rating or review so more people can find the show and join us on Main Street.Follow at www.americalandauctioneer.com and on Instagram & FacebookContact the team at Pifer's

Barna Donovan, a professor of communication and media studies at St. Peter's University, offers a compelling perspective on the evolving landscape of cinema, firmly rejecting the notion that the art form is dead. With a rich background in film studies from the University of Miami, Donovan delves into how interconnected cinematic universes, such as Marvel, have reshaped storytelling and audience engagement, reflecting a significant shift rather than a decline. As a staunch advocate for independent cinemas and original content, he emphasizes the role of neighborhood theaters in celebrating film as an art form and creating vibrant community events that draw audiences in. Through his teaching, Donovan equips the next generation of filmmakers and media professionals with the tools to navigate this dynamic industry, encouraging them to embrace innovation while preserving the essence of cinematic storytelling.00:06:16) The Rise of Cinematic Universes and Theaters(00:08:31) Rise of Streaming Platforms among Young Audiences(00:12:00) Influence of Streaming on Filmmaking Autonomy(00:21:47) Interconnected Universe Concept Shapes Audience Engagement Trends(00:23:45) Interconnected Superhero Film Overload(00:26:37) Marvel's Gimmicks: A Threat to Storytelling(00:31:44) Creative Downturn in Film Industry(00:51:54) Socially Engaging Movie Theaters for Generation Z(00:57:46) Community Events and Original Content Advocacy

Thanks to our Partners, Shop Boss and AppFueledWondering how one community-focused idea can transform your shop's reputation, rally an entire town, and even get the mayor's attention?Kim Walker connects with Betty Otero of Greg Smith Automotive in Belleview, Florida, a powerhouse shop owner who took a simple idea, a school backpack drive, and turned it into a ripple effect of community involvement, business partnerships, and real local impact.Betty didn't just donate school supplies. She created momentum. What started with 100 backpacks became nearly 400, all filled through the power of connection, heart, and a whole lot of hustle. From coordinating with schools and local businesses to organizing a Founders Day car show that brought in 91 show cars and raised money for United Way, Betty shares the real-world “how” behind marketing through community service. She opens up about the fear of starting small, the magic of asking for help, and how sharing your efforts the right way without bragging can lead to more business, a stronger team culture, and deeper community ties. This episode is pure gold for any shop owner who wants to stand out in their town, do something that matters, and build a brand that's trusted beyond the bays. Send us a textBrent Warren could be considered a modern-day Renaissance man. He's a singer-songwriter, an author, an illustrator, a magician, a comedian, and a filmmaker. One of his projects spawned from a dual love – the shared love between two locals of a historical aircraft. That dual love culminated in Warren's major undertaking as a filmmaker, the hour-long documentary Marvin's Fly'n Boat.Warren and Nederland local Marvin Lewis, owner of the restaurant Marvins Gardens, both loved the history and spectacle of the Hughes H-4 Hercules flying boat, colloquially known as the “Spruce Goose.” Designed by Howard Hughes, the plane, built from birch wood, is the largest flying boat, or seaplane with a hull, ever built.Lewis spent much of his time in Nederland building a 12-foot model of the plane, intended to fly. It didn't fly before his passing, but Colorado locals never gave up on the plane. Will it fly or not? Learn more about the making of the documentary by tuning in to this episode of the podcast!
