There are so many details when it comes to planning a wedding: what dress code will your guests wear? How about the flowers? Should you get a photographer, a videographer, or both? What do you want your wedding theme to be? (I honestly didn't even know there was such a thing.) There are so many details to planning a wedding that it can be enormously overwhelming, but it will be decidedly less so with my guest today's new book. Terri Pous had only been on one date with her now fiancé when she started writing How to Plan a Wedding: A Month-by-Month Guide for Modern Weddings, and now, of course, they're deep in planning a wedding of their own—and through this book, Terri wrote her own guide to making wedding planning easier, she just didn't know it at the time. Isn't life beautiful? Terri's book covers everything you can think of about wedding planning and some aspects of it that you wouldn't even know to think of, and our conversation covers a pretty wide swath as well. Some of you know you will be planning a 2024 wedding; some of you are about to get engaged over the holidays and start wedding planning yourself, you just don't know it yet! I know you will really enjoy this conversation, and I promise you will learn something.   How to Plan a Wedding: A Month-by-Month Guide for Modern Weddings by Terri Pous

In this week's episode, I had the pleasure of talking with Claire about her successful HBAC. Claire had the uphill battle of trying to find a healthcare provider to support her in a homebirth after caesarean with Type 1 diabetes. It's incredibly challenging for women planning a homebirth to find a supportive midwife (although the midwives are growing in numbers each day yay!) let alone finding someone to support you if you have Type 1 diabetes. Claire's sugars were under control during her pregnancies and she birthed bigger babies 9.13 and 10.15 Claire had planned a homebirth with her first baby and after a fairly healthy pregnancy around closer to 40 weeks she found she was becoming borderline pre-eclampsia towards week 40. She tried some "natural" induction methods which led to a 4 -day long on and-off labour. She got to 10cms and pushed and had a very high BP and transferred to hospital. That birth ended in her baby being born via C-Section. Second pregnancy Claire found herself pregnant at just 10 month postpartum. She hired the same midwife and had a super healthy pregnancy. We're proud to announce that we're being downloaded in 99 countries! In this explosive episode we share our final installation of an incredibly informative and intense 3-part series of conversations with our most downloaded special guest, Dr. Sandy Womack, Jr., the Region 3 area superintendent of the Columbus, Ohio school district and a lifelong educator with 30+ years of experience. He's the author of two books which are a must for every educator and leader:●"Even the best of plans go astray" and●"Creating Successful Urban Schools: The Urban Educators Month by Month Guide to School Improvement”.In our hard-hitting, truth-telling and daring conversations, we've covered topics that very few others have the courage to unpack, speaking truth to power on the topics of:● Effective 21st Century Policing● The truth about Critical Race Theory (CRT), and● We set the record straight on the current state of affairs in Ohio regarding charter schools and voucher programs (under Governor Mike DeWine's budget proposals) and how this will impact public education and ultimately the school to prison pipeline.Dr. Womack says, “25% of the state budget appears to be set aside for charter and voucher schools,” which he says is “significant” because “only about 11% of the students in Ohio will attend charter schools. “It sets the agenda, because you truly put your money where your mouth is.”● We look back on the 50th Anniversary of Hip-hop music and how it has impacted urban education and beyond.  He stresses the impacting force of an education and knowledge of self.  Dr. Womack mentioned that he “came up in the era where you had ‘conscious rap' from artists like KRS-One, Public Enemy, The Pharcyde and De La Soul”, just to mention a few.Dr. Womack shares that, “Hip hop has made a tremendous impact because it gave a lot of young African Americans the ability to see themselves in a positive light – through music and the ability to use their vocabulary and true to life story-telling.” ● The importance of celebrating “the firsts” (first black pioneers and significant role models of color) in a world that goes out of its way to try to devalue these accomplishments.  Dr. Womack says, “recognizing and identifying ‘firsts' is very important to do, because so many people today are trying to strip people of color of their history.” We drilled down on the de-regulation of educational certification (something that is not a new phenomenon), and discussed the rarely-mentioned fact that hundreds of thousands of Black educators lost their jobs when Brown v Board of Education was implemented in 1954.  A case argued by the great legal scholar and pioneer Associate U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall exposed the fact that unqualified white milkmen were used to replace qualified black educators when Brown v Board was implemented.  These educators were leading professionals in education and in their communities. In the decisive leadership of Dr. Womack, Jr., which has led many young people back onto the path to progress, “truth” is at the root of his essential core.  The truth “cultivates”.  It “digs up” … it “reveals”.  His dear grandmother, Alice Womack once said, "the difference between a lie and the truth is normally just half of the story.”Tune in and get your truths!  Follow our sponsors Newsly & Feedspot here:

Welcome to this Special Edition of Light ‘Em Up.  We are currently being downloaded in 99 countries globally!Tonight, we feel very fortunate, highly honored and richly blessed to deliver this Special Black History Month “Short Sojourn” with one of our most popular guests, Dr. Sandy Womack Jr.Dr. Womack Jr. is the Region 3 area superintendent of the Columbus, Ohio school district (the largest in Ohio) and a lifelong educator with 30+ years of experience. He is an inspirational, motivational leader, frequent keynote speaker, role model, an Urban Educational Transformation Expert, and the author of 2 books: "Even the best of plans go astray" and "Creating Successful Urban Schools: The Urban Educators Month by Month Guide to School Improvement”.The cornerstone of Dr. Womack Jr.'s educational philosophy that has led to phenomenal positive outcomes is that "exposure changes expectations and experiences change lives”.  Dr. Womack Jr. earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Ashland University. He is a devout man of learning, wisdom and history – most importantly to me, he's a dear friend of mine.In this in-depth, educational and explosive episode we examine the root cause of:● The “culture of brutality, the ingrained and the tireless dedication to lie and cover up the truth” in the policing profession.  Just what does “21st century policing” require in the wake of the killing of Tyre Nichols, in Memphis, TN on January 7, 2023?● The cancer(s) that continue to plague the policing profession – the extra-judicial, excessive use(s) of force under the color of authority.  Dr. Womack Jr. expresses that The Kerner Commission got it right, in 1968, but no one listened!● The importance of the appreciation of black and brown lives – that our society and especially members of law enforcement clearly lack an appreciation for.● The fact that even today there are still 2 separate and unequal sets of rules in the U.S. as it relates to contact with law enforcement and persons of color, and this fact continues to be perpetuated in many other areas of society, as well, such as education, financial red-lining, justice, equity, health care and fair & decent housing, just to name a few.● What does Dr. Womack Jr. mean by "stinkin' thinkin'”? ● He tests our knowledge of U.S. History and lays down the challenge to name 10 famous African-Americans in 60 seconds or less that ARE NOT athletes, entertainers, from slavery or civil rights.● He probes us to see if we know who was the first black governor in the U.S.    I'm fairly certain you won't know this answer, unless you “Google” it.● And he challenges us to “go deep” and truly “press into” our critical thinking and self-educate ourselves by reading the “Willie Lynch Letter and The Making of a Slave” which concerns the brutal and inhumane psychology behind the African slave trade and exposes the twisted thinking and the realities of life for a slave in the colonies. If that wasn't action-packed enough, he even throws in some profound wisdom from his uncle that states “If you're not sittin' at the table … you often are on the plate”.You certainly need not be a person of color to benefit from the (always) profound messages shared by Dr. Womack Jr., you need only to be human. He's been to over 100 countries and seven continents. What sets him apart from many of the travelers I know is his approach; his uncanny way to make you laugh and be completely envious of him experiencing incredible locations with his kids.  While many parents like taking breaks from their kids and heading overseas without them. Their family is not like that. Starting at age four, each of his kids got to pick any destination in the world every year for a one-on-one trip, and his kids weren't shy about picking crazy destinations – trips have included Australia (ages 4 and 6), Hong Kong (5), Belize (4), Easter Island (6), Iguazu Falls (6), Bali (9 and 10), Japan (7 and 8), the Maldives (9), and Antarctica (8) and that was just when they were ages 4-8.  In 2012 he was lucky enough to win Conde Nast Traveler Magazine's Photo of the Year contest out of 21,000+ entrants. The magazine planned an amazing two weeks in Florence for them. The first two days there three different people called him Babbo – Italian for Dad or Daddy. The kids started using it and it stuck – they haven't called him Dad since they returned from that trip. The funny thing is that Babbo only means Dad in certain parts of Italy. In other areas it means Idiot. Today I am excited to have a conversation with the Family Travel influencer who literally has the registered trademark to Take Your Kids Everywhere, Eric Stoen of Travel Babbo, Welcome to Ordinary Sherpa.   Follow or Connect with Eric at: Website: https://travelbabbo.com/ Instagram: @travelbabbo  Key Takeaways Eric will go wherever the kids want to go or return to.  There are many things that make a location returnable, it's whatever speaks to our hearts.  For us we visit Italy specifically Florence and Tuscany or the Greek Isle of Naxos.  So much so that locals know our names in several of the locations.  Let the kids have a stake in planning.  Look for kid-friendly tours.  They are simplified and the content is perfect for parents too.   Parent first, then traveler, then a photographer and travel writer.  He didn't want travel to become not fun for the kids ot getting paid to do things that weren't kid-friendly. I'm not afraid to show my kids faces, but seeing those accounts didn't inspire me.  Most times I shared photos of my kids often walking away because that's naturally where I was and they weren't interested in posing. Even if a place looks cool online doesn't mean it's a great kid-friendly place. Capture what's authentic and find the details that speak to you.  Eric is not willing to disrupt their vacation for work.  his followers deserve better and he wanted to maintain an organic nature of photography - not sponsored, posed photos.  He set a boundary that he didn't accept free travel.  He wasn't going to travel without his family unless he was getting paid. Networking is everything and meeting people in person is a game changer.  Travel writers and adventure brands are fun to be around.  Go to events and meet people face-to-face.  For Eric, while he was new and uncomfortable at ITB Berlin, Geeking out with new destinations was a trip and he often meets people that he'd like to hang out and travel with.  What's your intro? Have 20 seconds that describes why are you unique? Why would someone work with you? What is your attitude on travel? What is your perspective on ___? Your intro is what makes you memorable.  Travel is cumulative.  Explore with your kids as early as you can because good things will come of it.   Resources referenced during this episode:Start Here: https://travelbabbo.com/start-here/ Month by Month Guide to the Best Vacations with Kids: https://travelbabbo.com/best-vacations-for-kids/

Woodson and the importance of the legacy and tradition he started.● The richness, culturally, educationally and economically, and the advancement that predates 1619 regarding the vast and deep history of black people, which traces back to Africa, the cradle of mankind, where education, mathematics, commerce, urban planning, and construction originated.● “Knowledge of self” being indispensable to the existence of a collective people: “A people without knowledge of self is like a tree without roots.” ● The imperative to “be able to read, write, speak but more importantly, think critically” and be able to research any topic to its fullest extent.●The criticality of “service before self”.  The difference in serving vs saving students - especially in the urban educational environment.● The Kerner Commission Report & The “Overton Window” and its relevance in this critical moment in history.● The “cultural lenses” with which we perceive and receive messages in our daily interpersonal encounters – including such factors as “hyper-sensitivities”, “micro-aggressions” and the tone and intent behind the words we choose. “Words matter.” ●The power of action. Progress is good, but "until it is on paper”, chiseled into law and woven into the fabric of society, it has little true effect.●The bombshell class-action lawsuit filed by Brian Flores against the NFL, a league with a history that has for far too long shunned the leadership contributions of black people while financially benefitting enormously from their skills, talents, abilities and service. We pray you tune in and be enlightened, educated and empowered. We are here for you and because of you! Thanks, so much!Phil RizzoExecutive Producer

He is a devout man of learning, wisdom and history – most importantly to me, he’s a dear friend of mine.I always feel like I am speaking with one of the village elders when I am fortunate enough to chat with Dr. Womack, Jr. Unlike the “rinky-dink leaders” of today -- he epitomizes all what a servant leader is and should be in thought, word and deed. In this intense fact-packed episode I guarantee you that he will educate, empower and enlighten you. We drill deep on: ●The insurrection effort at the Capitol Building which took place on January 6th 2021. ●The legacies of the Honorable John Lewis, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X ●Racial socialization and the instilling of pride, connection and racial knowledge among persons of color. ●The fact that “a person without self-knowledge is like a tree without roots”. ●A path forward for improving the human condition of our neighbor and neighborhoods. Doing for the least of us, accomplishing the greater good for the most of us. A biblical imperative. ●How you “can’t change a problem unless you first admit there is a problem, define the problem, then bring attention to it”. ●Making positive change through education and enlarging the franchise for persons of color.●The fact that today’s school curriculum is “devoid of the contributions of people of color other than focusing on slavery and civil rights”. ●The negative stereotypical roles in television that for far too long have been relegated to people of color. ●The fact that “equal” is not always “equitable”. ●The Overton Window (which is a very timely and applicable concept that he explains in detail very well). Dr. Womack, Jr. is always graceful and generous to “Light ‘Em Up” granting us exclusive access to his full range of wisdom and insight – which is deep and profound. He is an intriguing man who NEVER disappoints. All this and more! Tune in and be empowered! Listen to Dr. Womack, Jr's first interview

This week I’m sharing with you my No. 1 book recommendation of the year. I want to share this one special book with you, as it’s sooooo good! What I love about this book, is that it’s the type of book that accompanies you throughout the year. It adds a really nice focus to your year, and helps to keep you on track with an ongoing program of upliftment and growth. It’s not just a book for reading. It’s a book for DOING. And as you know, I love a good practice! There’s no point reading the book and then not practicing it what it teaches. Along these lines, here’s a taster from the author, “Whenever we want to learn something new or want change to occur, we must consciously and consistently engage in a practice. Just as we learnt to walk, write and speak through practice, we can change ourselves at any time through its transformative power. Practice develops and transforms us, encourages discipline, and enables us to focus, facilitating change and increased awareness.” I started reading it a few months ago, and I was blown away by its depth and the new ways it guides me to experience and reflect upon my life. So if you’re ready for an inspiring and profound read, and a month by month guide to a multidimensional practice that benefits and advances your personal evolution and helps you become happier, healthier, and more effective across all areas of human experience, then you don’t want to miss this episode.I also cover the basics for the month of January, so you can get started right away, without buying the book.Resources:Get on the wait list for The Better Than Happy Zone MembershipInner Smile MeditationLinks mentioned in this episode:Living in Gratitude: Mastering the Art of Giving Thanks Every Day, A Month-by-Month Guide

Welcome to our smokin' new hot episode of Light 'Em Up. We focus on: Leadership, the Criminal Justice System & Crime Scene Investigation. We enlighten, educate and empower others with the truth. Like it or not …The truth, disturbs, The truth divides, But … ultimately … the truth delivers. Thank you so much to every one of our subscribers and listeners. We have grown rapidly and exponentially since our humble beginnings. In this episode we are extremely fortunate to sit down and spend time with Dr. Sandy Womack. Dr. Womack is the area superintendent of the Columbus, Ohio school district (the largest district in the state of Ohio). Dr. Sandy Womack is a lifetime educator with 30+ years of experience. He is an inspirational, motivational leader, frequent keynote speaker, role model as well as an Urban Educational Transformation Specialist -- most importantly to me, he is a dear friend of mine. Earning his Ph. D from Ashland University (in Ashland, Ohio) Dr. Womack has been an urban pioneer blazing a trail of impactful successes that have grown and benefitted the future leaders, the students of today. At only 29 years of age, Dr. Womack earned and was awarded his own building, as head principal, a rare and unique accomplishment. Dr. Womack is the author of two books: "Even the best of plans go astray" and "Creating Successful Urban Schools: The Urban Educators Month by Month Guide to School Improvement”. The cornerstone of his educational philosophy that has led to tremendous positive outcomes is that, "exposure changes expectations and experiences change lives”. His turnaround leadership skills and his targeted strategic vison have transformed and re-molded urban schools from academic emergency to an effective ranking in very short time span. His insight makes it very plain that educationally, if you start off behind, you have to run farther and faster just to attempt to catch up. Dr. Womack stresses the importance that, "it is not how you start, but rather, how you finish" that is crucial to the positive, transformational life processes. He is wise beyond his years. He cogently explains that it is imperative to "focus on the seed, to focus on the youth" as a means of bringing about change. In our discussion entitled: “Moving towards Chaos or Community”...Dr. Womack dispatched each of our tough questions with un-equivocating, hard-hitting facts. We asked: How do we make the U.S. Constitution a reality for all of its citizens? As an educator what do we need to be doing today in order to shrink the “school to prison pipeline”? and many othersOne of Dr. Womack's idols, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, said, "He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it." --- Dr. Womack explained the prophetic accuracy and timeliness of this specific quote in the wake of the extra-judicial killing of George Floyd, in Minneapolis, MN. We talked about race, inequality in education, the criminal justice system, U.S. history and the past, present and future status of this country, examining in painstaking detail as to whether we are on a bullet train to chaos or community. Dr. Womack provides a simple, clear and easy to understand life strategy that we all can achieve together, moving forward with love. We hope you enjoy this episode.Phil RizzoProgramming Director

What is the extraordinary life? It doesn’t take a genius to see that we live in a very troubled world. I barely even watch the news anymore, because it’s too depressing and frustrating. While thinking about previous conversations I have had with other people and myself, I was reminded of how we can live an extraordinary life in such a sinful world. The answer typically given is, “Just follow Christ (John 10:10).” This answer may be obvious to the person who said it but incredibly vague to the recipient if you don’t know what an extraordinary life is and what the blueprint/game plan is in obtaining such a life. We Get to Know writer and entrepreneur Courtney Adamo. We were thrilled to be chatting with Courtney on the podcast today. At first glance it's safe to say we all gush a little over the life Courtney has cultivated for her family in Byron Bay, Australia. It's the picture many of us would all paint for our lives if the stars aligned, but her life is no accident, along with her husband, they have been thoughtful to make choices and live the life that suits them best. I'm just happy we get to follow along. Courtney is the co-founder behind the successful international lifestyle website Babyccino.  It's a website offering modern moms a curated place to find all the best online boutiques in one place with loads of great blog content as well.  Courtney writes about her life and family travels on her blog SomewhereSlower.com. Additionally, she has co-authored the book 9-Months: A Month to Month Guide to Pregnancy for the Family to Share and has a large and ever increasing following on Instagram.  Most importantly, Courtney is the wife to Michael and the mother of their 5 beautiful children.  She's on a constant pursuit of truth and inspires us to live a simpler more profound life. In this episode she tells the story of living in London for 12 years where she welcomed 4 of her 5 children but longed for a slower paced life and something different.  After a few solid nudges to Michael, they decided to take a gap year traveling the globe.  She tells how this ultimately lead to their permanent relocation to Byron Bay, Australia that not only allows for that slower paced life but also gives them the beach access to live out their new family passion, surfing.  As passionate as Courtney is about experiencing the amazing things this world has to offer, she is more interested in slowing down her and her family's days, enjoying their time together, being more present, listening, really listening, to each other, and emerging with a happiness and fulfillment that will hopefully influence the rest of their lives.  Listen in and enjoy! What if the most important thing of your day was the first thing you did? For me, that thing is writing. Writing is the seed of everything that I do. It all starts with writing. I was a night owl all of my life. I hated waking up early. So why did I change? One day, I decided to log my output and run a test: do I write more at night or do I write more in the morning? After several weeks, I had the data in front of me: I wrote twice as much in the morning. Okay, so obviously I'd get results if I woke up early. But we still had a problem: I hated waking up early. How do you wake up early when you feel like it isn't something that comes naturally to you? Good news: waking up doesn't come naturally to me either! But I've developed a system that works. I made a 3-month guide to waking up at 6am consistently that I share with you in today's show. I'll also share 5 tips for getting out of bed at 6am.

This week’s podcast episode is entitled “The Adventures of Inspiration: SmallBizLady’s 11 Bible Verses Small Business Owners Need in 2011”.One of my favorite blogs is that of Melinda Emerson (Twitter’s SmallBizLady and host of #SmallBizChat, Wednesdays at 8PM ET on Twitter).  It’s located at succeedasyourownboss.com, and each day of the week it provides an informative blog post for small business owners and solo-entrepreneurs with the goal of ending small business failures.Last week, Melinda shared her “11 Bible Verses Small Business Owners Need in 2011” (CLICK HERE for the printable copy) and today I’m going to share them with you, because they were very inspirational to me, and spoke to me at a time when I needed inspiration and something more to keep me going. The post starts with Melinda sharing her theme for the year, which is “Either I win or I learn, but with God’s help I never lose”.  Very inspiring sentiment, which was then followed by the following 11 Bible verses of encouragement for those of us at various stages of our entrepreneurial journey:1. No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9 I remember this verse from one of my favorite songs “For the Good of Them” by Rev. Milton Brunson and the Thompson Community Singers of Chicago.  I know that I can state personally that there have been positive things to happen in my life, as close as last week, that pretty much go above and beyond what I could have imagined.  I’m continually amazed at the Blessings I’ve had in my life, and I do appreciate God’s favor and pray that it continues, not just for me, but for my family and loved ones, and all those seeking solace from the negatives in life, than can really wear you down.2. Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3 Melinda says “If everything in your business is done to glorify God, he will Bless your work”.  I think this is something that we as small business owners forget, for many of us, exist in the “worldly sphere”, and I’d define that as anyone not doing business directly within the genre of selling religious works and related artifacts.  One of the best ways that I find I can accomplish the requirements of this verse is to always make sure that I keep myself, and my integrity (which is based in my faith) at the forefront of all of my business and personal dealings.  Since I’ve been working in the field of Technology and Social Media, I’ve seen ample opportunity to run scams on people and possibly make tons of money, with very little effort.  Though this could definitely bring me some money in the short-run, I have to look at the long-term benefits and what’s truly important to me and what I’m trying to build as an entrepreneur.  I can tell you that this journey has not been easy.  Especially when I see people that are taken the “crooked route” and profiting hand over fist.  I try not envy such people, and I’ve continually believed that being square-dealing and honest is going to one day pay off for me.  It’s been a long road, but I’m definitely glad to say that I’ve benefited by staying honest, and I probably sleep better at night because of it too.3. The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.  Proverbs 21:5 Per Melinda’s advice “A good idea is still a good idea three weeks from now. There are no “get rich quick” schemes. Do not be in a hurry for anything. Learn all you can. Be focused and diligent and your business will succeed”.  Definitely one of the hardest lessons for me to learn, because so much about our society now encourages us to seek instant gratification, especially in the technology and social media realm, where it feels like everything is changing so rapidly that you feel that a week missed could be a missed lifetime opportunity.  Luckily, that’s not true, and I’m surely finding as I continue on with this entrepreneurial journey that “slow and steady” does in fact win the race!4. I will find the Lord when I seek him with all my heart and with all my soul.  Deuteronomy 4:29 SmallBizLady says: “The best thing you can do for your business is pray daily with an open heart. God speaks to us through vision and dreams. Be open to what God wants you to learn”.  You can’t argue with that.  5. The Blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22 This says to me that when God Blesses, it comes with abundance and not sorry and strife.6. Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? I fix my eyes on God and soon I’ll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God. Psalm 42:5 Here Melinda shares a story about her father and how he used to say “we wouldn’t know God’s day if it weren’t for bad days, so thank God for the bad days too”.  This is something I had to learn from experience.  Everything needs a point of reference.  You can’t truly appreciate the GOOD, until you’ve experienced that bad.  Tough as it may be to get through them, I believe the bad times make us better people in the long run.7. I fear not, for God is with me; I am not dismayed; for He is my God. He will strengthen me, yes, He will help me, He will uphold me with His righteous right hand.  Isaiah 41:10 This is a good verse for those feeling doubtful about their entrepreneurial aspirations, especially in the early stages.  I think this is a good verse to refer to during those times of self-doubt.8. By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but Him who sent me. John 5:30 As Melinda says “It’s never about you. It’s about the team around you and your customers”.  I can admit, this is a tough lesson for a narcissist to learn, but it’s possible. LOL.9. I seriously consider what I am doing before taking on new projects. I expand prudently and I do not court neglect of present duties by assuming too many new ones. Proverbs 31:16 Once again, Melinda gives sound advice: “Be a project finisher. Do not be one of these business owners that run from thing to thing with more than one brand message. Make it clear what business you are in by focusing on one niche customer”.  I’ve definitely heard this advice several times since I started on my first business venture (what is now) many years ago.  And I admit, at the start, I definitely had too many irons on the fire, and they weren’t even "complimentary fires" that worked together.  I was trying to do too many things, and was being pulled in too many different directions.  Even now, some people feel that I’m managing too many brands, but for me, having found the common thread within them, as well as learning ways to reduce a duplication of effort across the brands I’m seeking to manage, I feel that I’ve got a great handle on what business I’m in, and who my customers are.  Of course, I could always fine-tune my niche market, but I think that’s just a natural process of maturation that any good business does as it grows.10. Pride lands me flat on my face, but humility prepares me for honor. Proverbs 29:23 Melinda says “Do not let your pride keep you from learning a lesson”. I’m trying!  Humility is not my strong suit, in fact, though I don’t think I’m too prideful, I can admit that humility is a notion that often passes me.  But I think that’s a result of what I’ve gone through and triumphed over to get to where I am.  After experiencing so many people telling you that you’re wrong, or that you’re going to fail, or that you can’t do something, once you are able to do it, or triumph over whatever hurdles that were set before you, it’s REAL HARD not to rub others face in it, and by “rub their face in it”, I don’t mean, purposefully taunting the naysayers, but continuing on, doing your thing, and showing them that what they say has no effect on you.  It’s that “you can’t tell me nothing” mentality that I think a lot of successful people where I’m from have.  I suspect it’s a “Chicago Thing”. LOL.  So, if you don’t get it.  I understand! 11. I live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 Of all the Bible verses that Melinda shared, I think this one struck a chord with me the most.  It’s been a LONG TIME since I’ve lived by sight.  If I let what I see, or can foresee in the near future dictate what I believe were possible in my life, I’d be nothing! If I didn’t believe, despite all evidence to the contrary that my life was Divinely Orchestrated, and things weren’t happened to me, but for me, and that ultimately, despite all the bad, that things would work out, I wouldn’t be where I am today.  I can’t tell you how dead-on this verse was for me.  But I will share with you one of my favorite quotes on faith from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  He said “Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase”.  People used to say this when I was growing up, and I thought it was the funniest thing, but it was only as an adult, that I truly learned to appreciate it, and what having faith really means.I should note that this post from SmallBizLady Melinda Emerson was inspired in part by Joyce Meyer’s book, The Secret Power of Speaking God’s Word.  And once again, here's a PRINTABLE PDF COPY of Melinda's post, and more information about her:  Melinda F.
