Redd Foxx was one funny motherfucker. And, hell on wheels. Apparently, he was the scourge of taxi drivers in Las Vegas, where he lived, worked, and is buried - because he would either throw up in the backseat of their cabs, or refuse to pay his fare, or both. As the “King of the Party Records”, Redd made 50 dirty albums (I have a few on 8 track) - before hitting national gold on Sanford and Son, that show about a junkman and his boy that ran for six seasons, starting in 1972. I just found out that Foxx's birth name actually WAS Sanford - a factoid that makes me smile. If fact everything about him made me smile. I loved it each time he'd clutch his chest feigning a heart attack, and groaning “Elizabeth, I'm comin' to join you, honey!” And, now, hearing Quincy Jone's theme song again, I'm sporting a broad grin again in remembrance.Q was a master of innumerable musical genres, coming up as he did as Dinah Washington's arranger, Sinatra's band leader, Film scorer par excellence, and Michael Jackson's record producer, etc, etc. Here he's channelling Herbie Hancock's “Watermelon Man” - and the funky clavinet makes me want to bob my head along with the syncopation.Although the character of Fred Sanford was supposed to be in his sixties, Redd was only in his 40s when he made Sanford and Son, and he was only 68 when he died in 1991, having exhausted himself through a jam-packed roller-coaster existence. Rumor has it he died broke because the IRS has seized his assets two years earlier, so Eddie Murphy footed the bill to pay for his funeral.  As Arthur Miller once wrote: “Attention must be paid!”

Laugh Tracks Legends of Comedy with Randy and Steve

Bold and bawdy, for a time in the 1970's LaWanda Page was the Queen of Comedy -- at least the type featured on numerous x-rated "party records". From early days as a "Fire Dancer", LaWanda worked the "chitlin' circuit" of clubs in the south, developing her standup act and developing friendships with other comics including Redd Foxx. After issuing a number of naughty albums on the Laff label, LaWanda got a call from Redd asking her to join the cast of his new sitcom Sanford and Son". She said yes, and the producer blew a gasket because her acting skills were at best limited. Redd famously said "if she goes, I go" and the rest is sitcom history. So take yourself back to the days when you would put on certain records "after the kids go to bed" and have a laugh with LaWanda, The Queen of Comedy. As always find extra cuts below and thanks for sharing our shows. Want more LaWanda? Most of LaWanda's albums are very NSFW -- though if you want a quick primer in urban slang of the 70s they are a great source. This track is taken from the one mainstream comedy record she did and while the language was toned down, the point was still sharp. https://youtu.be/Evsd1jpiMuQ?si=MzW09WALAqYyVhBn LaWanda's Aunt Esther was a cornerstone of Sanford and Son -- and LaWanda played it to the hilt (as did Redd Foxx as Fred Sanford). Here's some of Aunt Esther's best.https://youtu.be/0ppXVtCoA_E?si=-o_JFFQSPEYLI5fK Here's a time capsule -- it the Dean Martin Celebrity Roast of Angie Dickinson -- featuring LaWanda as one of the roasters -- only she turned most of her fire on Dino. And dig the 1970s color scheme -- you can feel the shag carpet!https://youtu.be/WjzbQXVywk8?si=PUUwKjxqYzTHXgTV

Mansa Gory is a humble connoisseur of sound. Growing up in the Dizzy Gillespie projects of Cheraw South Carolina, he was indoctrinated into the spirit of protagonist artistry at a young age. It was in that time frame where he acknowledged that he was destined to be a musical artist, actor, and author, striving to bring communities together for higher achievement. Mansa currently serves as the Director of Bands at the Denzel Washington School of Performing Arts School on the Nellie A. Thornton Educational Campus, which is located in Mount Vernon, NY. In the past he has been the band director at Boys and Girls High School (Brooklyn), The Brooklyn Steppers Marching Band, Blackfire Percussion, ICE Cold Performing Arts, and Mount Vernon High School. Mansa has served on the music staff at the Rosemont Cavaliers Drum corp of Illinois where the percussion section won the highly coveted, Fred Sanford best percussion performance award (National Championship). Mr. Gory earned the Jim Ott trophy for best hornline in the World as a member of the Concord Blue Devils where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame under the tutelage of Wayne Downey and John Meehan. Mansa was a 2021 Grammy Music Educator of the year Nominee. Mansa Gory founded a non-profit youth enrichment organization, ICE Cold performing arts, which serves as a band pipeline from 4th grade through college. As a band director, Mansa has maintained a multitude of high-demand performance contracts with: Tommy Hilfiger, NY Knicks, The Today Show with Regis and Kelly, NY Empire, and NY Streets Arena Football Team. Completing his Bachelors at the University of South Carolina, Mansa became a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. Earning his Masters at Lehman College, he plays the Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano, Percussion, and Sings. Mansa Gory takes great pleasure in pursuing artistic proclivities while he holds the complete works of Aristotle in one hand and a delicious sandwich in the other. Based in NY. To diminish the human tendency of self-degradation in order to be of better service to our families and communities is one of the primary aims of this selection. The artistic risk taken is the juxtaposition of music, nature sounds, motif, acting, trombone performance, and poetry in a theatrical audio framework. I believe that the arts are the engine of humanity. The arts bring communities together for higher achievement, empathy, and appreciation." This Original Piece is performed entirely by Mansa Gory. #302: Redd Foxx who played the character Fred Sanford on the comedy show Sanford and Son, made famous the line, “Elizabeth, I’m coming to join you, this is the big one!” When he didn’t get his way or when something was said that he didn’t like, Fred would grab his chest, stumble around, and pretend he was having a major heart attack, “This is it, the big one." As husbands there has likely been a time or two when we’ve seriously considered the Fred Sanford way.

Hello and welcome to a show that remembers what life was like when Fred Sanford was clutching his chest, saying "Elizabeth, I'm coming...I'm coming Elizabeth" or as we like to call it, Now That I'm Older! This week we start out talking about some of the hard lessons we learn as kids. Then we talk about psychopaths and how when you’re younger, no matter how crazy we got, we feel like we kept it together but some people and some machines didn't. We also talk about Kenny’s full leather outfit (including the hat, pants, jacket and an eye patch) and we close the show with talking about the possibility of the Robot uprising and how we should have known better, but we keep pushing our luck with stupid stuff like Boston Dynamics! This week we shouted out: Fool Can't Get Fooled Again; The Steel Reinforced Podcast; Three Lions Podcast; and we played promos for: Odd Dad Out and The Countdown Pod! Go check them out now. This week's show goes out to anyone who's starting a new job in their thirties. We all know that awkward ass feeling of walking in the first day, not even knowing where to get coffee at. Then you get the tour from some older employee who looks like he's been there forever and you spend the whole day feeling like the new kid in 4th grade all over again! This show is for you, so here's to you New Kid at Work Guy! And remember, getting older sucks but can be awesome at the same time! Have a great week guys!!! The Context of White Supremacy welcomes the return of Pamela Evans Harris. The co-author of Trojan Horse: Death of A Dark Nation, Pam is one of The C.O.W.S.'s favorite guests. Pam's research consistently exposes how #Antiblackness is intensely promoted through all forms of White Supremacy entertainment. She routinely encourages Victims of Racism to unplug the television. On this unique broadcast, we'll inspect an entire episode of the 1970's sitcom Sanford & Son, featuring comedian Redd Foxx. The black slapstick revolves around a father and son duo who work and live in a junkyard. This specific installment is 17th episode of the second season, titled: 'Lamont Goes African.' Fred Sanford's son adopts an African name and removes pork from his diet. This is grist for heaps of contemptible jokes aimed at Africa and black people on the whole. Generations of black people are fed this content, and celebrate the buffoonery and #ANTIBLACKNESS as "black culture." #TheCOWS13 INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE: 564943#
