And just like that, we are on part 2 of the 30 life, faith and business lessons I learned in my 20's.   In case you missed part 1, you definitely want to go and listen to that episode FIRST and come back to this one. that is episode 76. but if you already have, WELCOME BACK.   You know the drill.     In this episode, we are diving DEEP into the transformative decade of my twenties since I am turning THIRTY in just a couple of weeks. Which is so wild to me, time really does fly by the older you get.     My twenties hold such a SPECIAL place in my heart. This was the decade I truly fell in love with Jesus and KNOW the Holy Spirit. It's also been the decade that I started my career in online entrepreneurship. I started my entrepreneurial journey when I was just 23 years old, so as you can probably imagine, I've learned A LOT about myself, business, God, and everything in between.     And I've also made A LOT of mistakes... In business, and in life.     And with this, I also think it's important to share that I spent the majority of this decade SINGLE and healing from a lot of pain I experienced from dating and toxic relationships in my early 20's.       With that said, I hope you join me as I reflect on the incredible journey, and share with you the 30 invaluable lessons I learned along the way.     From the thrilling triumphs to the challenging setbacks, we'll explore the lessons that shaped my faith, honed my business, and provided me with a compass for navigating the journey of life.     Trust me, there's something here for everyone, whether you're in your twenties, reliving those moments, or simply seeking timeless wisdom to apply to your own life's adventure.     Like I mentioned, during this episode, we'll cover a wide range of topics—from relationships to resilience, career to character, and so much more. Each lesson has been carefully curated to inspire, motivate, and ignite a spark of faithful wisdom within you.     Whether you're a dreamer, an entrepreneur, a seeker of purpose, or simply someone eager to learn from the experiences of others, this episode will deliver.   What You Will Learn: 15 life, faith and business lessons I learned in my 20's Invaluable lessons you can implement as a Christian entrepreneur (to keep your eyes on Jesus AND thrive in business) Hard lessons that thankfully taught me how to teach YOU to steward your role as a Faith-Fueled CEO Real stories that showcase how some clichés are entirely true (bc it wouldn't be cliché if it wasn't true)   I'm SO ready to spill the beans, share the stories, and reveal the hard-won truths that have guided me through the rollercoaster ride that was my twenties.   Get ready to take notes, grab your favorite beverage (sparkling, preferably), and let's go ahead and dive in. Catherine McCord is the co-founder of One Potato and the founder of the popular Weelicious brand, a trusted content resource synonymous with family and food. A graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education, she has created online how-to videos that have amassed more than fifty million views and celebrities like Jennifer Garner, Sarah Michelle Gellar & Keri Glassman, RD, swear by her food as a medicine approach to healthy tonics. She has written three cookbooks including her latest Smoothie Project.  Catherine has appeared on TODAY, Good Morning America, California Live, The Doctors, and is a regular on the Emmy-winning NBC show Naturally, Danny Seo as well as Food Network's #1-rated Guy's Grocery Games. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and three children. I came to know about Catherine and her lifesaving work for parents with picky kids when my best friend gave me two of her Weelicious cookbooks. I was complaining about how all Wilder will eat is "Cheese on White" (we talk about this in the interview!) and the minute I opened one of her cookbooks, I knew there was another way! I started by making Chewy Granola Balls. They have peanut butter! Something Wilder would never eat on her own. But lo and behold, she ate these! Then I tried Spinach Ricotta Bites and Spaghetti Pie and Spanakopita Bites. And they all won! As I cooked, I realized that the true point of Catherine's work was to make meals that the entire family can enjoy. Tim and I had gotten into the habit of making our food and Wilder's food separately. Everything we liked was too zesty or "spicy" or looked weird or had texture that would make her gag! Every time I got brain blocked, I started pulling out Weelicious cookbooks until one day I finally realized that it didn't end there. Catherine started One Potato food delivery service after realizing there was a whole in that budding industry. No one had created a meal delivery company that considered the entire family. One Potato has a family-friendly menu with recipes that the kids can actually help make. There's no doubt that Catherine is a thought leader in the world of family culinary arts, but what's an extra bonus is just how much fun she is on top of it all. Catherine has an incredible personality that was obviously shaped by a grounded family life and the fact that she is doing something every day that she loves. Notables from our conversation: Catherine faced adversity at a young age (health problems) and learned to find a different positive path (modeling) How Catherine managed to develop a healthy body image and healthy relationship with food despite being very successful in a career that puts a priority on being extremely thin Transitions: Didn't quit her day job while going to culinary school On the path to Weelicious, Catherine tried many different things that didn't work. Weelicious was successful because Catherine was solving a problem. How to "break" picky kids! Cheese on white syndrome Food is curative. If something is not right, try first to cure yourself or your kids with food. "Around the back sneak attack" getting her kids to try recipes - ask for their help so they feel empowered not defensive Creative cooking prompt: Make a list of 10 foods you all love. Build a menu from there. How to break the groundhog day cooking cycle - esp during pandemic. "What gets you up in the morning?" - ND "I just jump out of bed everyday!" - CM Nugget: "If you don't know how to do something that you want to learn how to do , don't be afraid to ask for help. Ask your mother's cousin's brother. Ask your neighbor. Ask anyone. Don't be shy because everyone wants to help someone else to feel good and be successful." GIVEAWAY: To win a Weelicious cookbook, go to @nicoledeboom on Facebook or Instagram and answer this question, "What food can you not live without?" Winner will be chosen Sunday, March 14, 2021. How to be More Confident in Yourself and your Business with Wedding Trailblazer - Kat Williams

Creative Ways Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 15, 2020 47:03

Kat Williams is a writer, editor and of course the face behind the successful wedding blog and magazine Rock N Roll Bride. Started In 2007 Kat noticed a gap in the market for advice on how to plan and create a wedding that wasn’t the big white day, but in fact the small alternative, colourful, accepting and more importantly unique party! Rock N Roll Bride is one of the biggest wedding blogs in the world! When Kat launched her bi-monthly Rock N Roll Bride magazine in 2015 it was reported as being the fastest debut selling issue of a magazine ever! It sold out within 72 hours and sold over 1,000 copies within the first day alone. In 2019 Kat published her book, Rock N Roll Bride: The Ultimate Guide for Rock N Roll Brides, which instantly went to #1 in Amazon’s wedding category. Kat took the world and the wedding industry by storm which of course comes with a lot of negativity to deal with. Kat talks about how she navigates all of the things, how she deals with the haters, and how she stays confident and true to her voice and vision. Kat’s Takeaways  1. Having a large online following means you will get a few people who don’t like what you’re doing and that can be hard to deal with sometimes, especially when people feel like they know you. That can be difficult, but understand it’s them not you.  2. Wanting to help people Is one of the best ways to run a business and run your life!  3. Getting married is more than a wedding, it’s many loved one’s feelings, family traditions and beliefs and hang ups you didn’t even know you all had, but there’s always a different way to do it and actually do it your way and enjoy it all!  4. Happy people don’t spread hate and lies, so if that’s something you’re dealing with, just remember, it’s actually impossible for the brain to physically be nasty and be grateful or love at the same time. They are clearly in a miserable space in their life. 5. If you’ve had struggles around food, dieting and all of that body image, don’t worry if you stray off your path and struggle a few years later, it’s a constant journey and takes re grouping often. It’s like gardening, if we don’t keep pruning daily, the weeds will show up! Be kind to yourself!  6. Owning your business is a mental game, morning routines can really help you feel in control, especially in this world right now where it feels there isn’t much of that. 7.Exercising actually changes your thoughts, also try tapping!  8. Confidence is a skill; you can practice and cultivate.  9. You can be bubbly and not confident.  10. If you have self-belief you can be so powerful!  11. You can be fearful and do the thing anyway! In fact, every successful entrepreneur is, they just make friends with their fear! 12. We don’t know what the world is going to throw at us next, but remember this, you have the power to make your life the way you want it to be and you are more capable than you give yourself credit for.  *****GIVEAWAY ***** To celebrate Kat coming on the podcast, I’m giving away Kats amazing book ‘Rock N Rock Bride’ The Ultimate Guide for Alternative Brides!’ to you the listener, to be in with a chance to win all you have to do is write me a review on iTunes or if you haven’t got that, then share this episode on your stories and send me a screen shot of either or if you want a double entry! It’s free to do but it really does help. Winner is announced Wednesday 23rd December 2020. Good Luck! You can find all of Kats amazing work, courses, mentoring, her Podcast ‘The Confidence Club Podcast’ and her book at https://www.rocknrollbride.com/ https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/episode-19-pivoting-your-business-power-self-confidence/id1512131664?i=1000501492444

TL;DR: We discuss the announcement of our autographed Folklore CD and merch of your choice giveaway, reminder of Swiftie Confessions, 2021 Grammy nominations, Taylor's new documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, Folklore revisited, and our wild new theories. Oh boy… did we have a lot to cover in this episode! There was no way we could ignore the Grammys, Taylor Swift's six nominations, and The Weeknd's majorly controversial snub. After ranting about how trash the Grammy voting committee is, the sheer disrespect to what we consider Taylor's biggest competition for the award show, Justin Bieber's pure ignorance and entitlement (read the room, Justin!), and our winner predictions -- we discuss the next huge drop in the Taylor Swift community, her new documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions on Disney+! Where does she find the time? We talk about the biggest revelations we learned from the movie (looking at you, "Mirrorball"), one of the host's newfound... appreciation... for Jack Antonoff, and how the documentary overall changed how we feel about the album. We end this episode with an abridged, heavily edited down previously recorded episode where we revisit Folklore and the opinions you shared with us. Of course, this was recorded before her new documentary (a head's up would've been nice, Taylor!), so we cut it down to just the important stuff, like Kressie's new theory about "The 1," and Ali's realization of how Karlie Kloss could come into play. We wouldn't be a true Taylor Swift podcast if we didn't have at least a few episodes that become irrelevant days after recording! About the Giveaway To enter, write us an Apple Podcasts review and send a screenshot of it to gfaweekend@gmail.com by December 31, 2020.You may also submit your Swiftie Confession in your email. The winner will receive an autographed Folklore CD as well as t-shirt of their choice from Taylor's Folklore merch available on www.taylorswift.com.The winner will be announced in our 2021 kickoff episode. About Swiftie Confessions What’s on your mind, Taylor Swift fans? What are your unpopular opinions? What’s your favorite Taylor moment? What "Easter eggs" did you totally believe that never happened? Do you have any conspiracy theories? It can be positive, negative, something you need to get off your chest, whatever. We’ll choose our favorites and read them in our first episode of 2021. You may also enter in our giveaway by including a screenshot of your Apple Podcasts review in your email. Listen to our previous episode (15. Swiftie Confessions) for full details. Here are the rules: Nothing weird or sexual about Taylor. That means no speculating about her sex life, in any way. Please follow this rule out of respect for Taylor.Don’t call out certain Swifties. It’s okay if you want to rant about maybe a big fan account or have had some problems with Swifties, but do not specifically call them out, no names, usernames, nothing.Submit by Dec. 13 at the absolute latest. One of the most thrilling things about being an entrepreneur is realizing how possible it is to create something amazing out of thin air. That’s what Ally Machate did. There is nothing like a little life adventure to teach. Sharon seized the opportunity to walk the ancient pilgrimage path through Spain, the Camino de Santiago, back in 2012. She hadn’t intended to be 6 months pregnant when starting this 500 mile walk, but the Camino - like life - doesn’t always follow our plans. Hate the feeling of being caged in? Me too. It may seem counterintuitive, but boundaries are a hugely impactful way to open yourself up to greater possibility. In today’s episode, Sharon discusses boundary setting using her three maternity leaves as examples for how her boundaries around this special time shape-shifted over time. While this episode will likely peak the interest of anyone preparing for their own maternity leave or supporting someone in this process, Sharon promises the 6 lessons shared on boundary setting extend far beyond this context.  GIVEAWAY To celebrate the launch of the new pointroadstudios.com we are doing a special giveaway. Subscribe to join our community by February 15th and you’ll be entered into our raffle for a chance to win a limited edition screen print with the phrase there is nothing stopping you. If you are curious, you can get an inside-the-studio look at the making of this print over on the blog. IDEAS SHARED Key Lessons on Setting Boundaries DO set clear boundaries – be as specific as possible; understand what is black and white and where there is some blurry grey Boundaries provide a structure that offers enormous freedom to play and create Boundaries can be stretched and redefined A boundary stretched extensively is no longer a boundary Pick a defined timeline; when in doubt keep it short (K.I.S.) Reflect, evaluate, refine (or redefine) RESOURCES AND LINKS The First Forty Days has been a major source of inspiration to me as I prepare for this maternity leave I didn’t reference this in the podcast, but I really enjoyed Megan Gilger’s take on maternity leave, How I Took Maternity Leave as an Entrepreneur.

We all experience transitions on a regular basis. Sometimes they are big - e.g. getting married, starting a new job, grieving a loss, moving to a new place. Sometimes they are little - e.g. commuting across town to work, finishing writing a proposal, integrating a new member on our team. Transitions often seem like something to rush through as quickly as possible on our way to get from the present to where we want to be. Unfortunately life doesn’t usually work this way. We spend the majority of our time in this act of moving from here to there , but we often gloss over this experience unto itself. But it doesn't have to be this way. This week, Sharon is investigating what it means to be in transition. Learn key insights about transitions in general as well as tips for how to move through them effectively. IDEAS SHARED A transition is the movement from where you are to a new different place. Despite the diversity of transitions out there, there are some friendly reminders that will serve us no matter where we are. Remember this when it comes to transitions We can’t leapfrog transitions Transitions are uncomfortable Transitions arrive to us in many ways Transitions are where life happens Tips for moving through transitions Be present Honor your emotions Trace the movement Look to inspiring stories Be a part of the circle of good Keep going, keep going, keep going “I guess what I’m saying is, let’s keep lifting each other up. It’s not lost on me that two of the biggest opportunities I’ve had to break into the next level were given to me by women in positions of power. If I’m ever in that position and you ask me, ‘Who?’ I’ll do my best to say, ‘You’ too. But in order to get there, you may have to break down the walls of whatever it is that’s holding you back first. Ignore the doubt – it’s not your friend – and just keep going, keep going, keep going.”  – Lauren Graham RESOURCES AND LINKS Mark Sundeen’s book The Unsettlers Lauren Graham’s book Talking As Fast As I Can

I've made Tubey and Waltzer from Wee Woolly Toppers and a couple of Christmas Pudding Hats from Debbie Bliss's Kids' Knits for Heads, Hands and Toes. I've spun extra yarn for my handspun Rainbow Liesl, which I will cast on soon. I've also been working on Woolsack cushions, but more on those next time.
