Bridget Everett’s last meal takes us to New Orleans’ second oldest restaurant, where Creole and Italian cooking collide into a cuisine called (you guessed it) Italian Creole! The owner of Pascal’s Manale, Dickie Brennan, joins the show to talk about the special menu and the restaurant’s long history. Bridget performed her delightfully raunchy cabaret act for years before landing the lead role on HBO Max’s Somebody Somewhere (and she still performs it!), but she made a living working in restaurants. We talk about the highs and lows of her 30-year restaurant career, and when she was able to quit. And she tells host Rachel Belle how she learned to cook on national television. Both Bridget and her character on Somebody Somewhere love ordering “French toast for the table” at The Chef, a diner in Manhattan, Kansas. Is French toast actually French? We learn its origin story from Max Miller, host of Tasting History. Watch Rachel’s Cascade PBS TV show The Nosh with Rachel Belle - Season 2 out now! Episode 2683 - Vinnie Tortorich and Chris Shaffer discuss advertising, the Beyond Meat rebranding, and how a better diet means better results, and more. https://vinnietortorich.com/2025/08/better-diet-means-better-results-episode-2683 PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS YOU CAN WATCH THIS EPISODE ON YOUTUBE - A Better Diet Means Better Results The Billy Joel documentary is super-engaging. (2:00) It's on HBO Max, and you must have an HBO Max account if you want to view it on Amazon. The documentary is in two parts and is called “Billy Joel: And So It Goes.” Vinnie addresses the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle jeans ad. (10:45) The outcry on social media appears to be unfounded. Beyond Meat has made a branding change and has shortened its name to just “Beyond.” (29:00) Vinnie's documentary “Beyond Impossible” addresses issues with fake meat. They discuss other fake foods and ingredients, including JUST “eggs.” (32:15) The FDA allows marketing on labels to include misinformation. Proteins from things like legumes are not equal to the complete amino acids and ratios of animal protein. (38:00) They review the “new and improved” recipe by Beyond. (40:00) Pure Coffee Club has a fun announcement. (42:00) Vinnie understands what it means to be overweight, eat cheap foods, and have a sugar addiction. (48:30) There's a revelation about changes to some brands of canned tuna. (52:00) They discuss an article in Sports Illustrated that states that exercise helps with weight loss. There needs to be clarification: weight loss doesn't happen unless you're eating the proper diet. (55:00) Eating the proper ratio of fat and protein will magnify weight loss. Exercise alone while eating a ton of carbs will not help your body burn fat for weight loss. The article was trying to emphasize that if you are on a diet, the more you exercise, the less muscle you lose, which helps your metabolism. (58:15) A better diet means better results. In the 1950s, people were often leaner because we were a less sedentary society. (1:00:00) More News If you are interested in the NSNG® VIP group, it will be reopening soon. Production Design doesn't always get the laugh — but on Hacks, Rob Tokarz helps set up the punchline. This week on Below the Line, Production Designer Rob Tokarz joins Skid to discuss Rob's Emmy-nominated work on Hacks, the HBO Max comedy that just wrapped its fourth season. Rob shares how the show's design evolved with Deborah and Ava's careers — from Vegas casinos to LA sound stages — and how visual comedy can live in the details. Among the highlights: Designing Deborah's late night talk show set — and how its clean lines, reflective surfaces, and scale marked a new chapter in her career Leaning into sleek, showbiz artifice while still grounding scenes in emotional truth How Rob approaches “passive comedy” through shape, scale, texture, and layout Collaborating with Showrunners Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky to ensure that design and comedy worked hand in hand Designing new spaces like Jimmy's office and the Home Shopping Network studio Working with returning directors, DPs, and department heads to maintain visual continuity Navigating studio notes and shifting production goals across multiple seasons Rob also shares how Hacks maintained character integrity even as its world kept expanding — and why no design detail is too small when you're playing for laughs.

The bagels also break down the Jewish moments in Marvel's Fantastic Four, Happy Gilmore 2 and The Naked Gun.
A wide range of reviews, plus we're delighted to be back with movie news, on this week's Breakfast All Day podcast. We begin with a movie that we know so many of you are excited about: "Weapons," writer-director Zach Cregger's follow-up to "Barbarian" from 2022. This is a spoiler-free review, because one of the best parts of "Weapons" is not knowing anything about "Weapons." Just trust us when we tell you it's nuts, and you should see it. We'll have a LIVE spoiler chat at our YouTube channel at Noon Pacific time on Tuesday, Aug. 12, so come back then and we'll get into it. In theaters. Next up is a movie the whole family can see and enjoy: "Freakier Friday," which comes 22 years after "Freaky Friday," which was itself a remake of the 1976 Disney favorite. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back for more body-swap shenanigans. We laughed a lot more than we expected. The pacing is lively and the cast is game. In theaters. Then we catch up with the documentary "Billy Joel: And So It Goes," which we missed when it came out because we were both traveling. This is a two-part, five-hour exploration of this enduring musical artist, and it will make you appreciate Joel's songs on a deeper level. So many hits, and the stories behind them are fascinating. Streaming on HBO Max. Finally, it's our first Movie News LIVE! in a long time. Lots to talk about, including "The Wizard of Oz" at Sphere in Las Vegas, "Hamilton" playing in theaters, Dean Cain trying to be an ICE agent and more. We promise to be more consistent with these now that we're both back in town. Thanks to everyone who joined us! * Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/

The Federal Communications Commission is planning a review of the US emergency alert systems. The announcement of this plan notes that the infrastructure underlying the EAS — which includes radio, television, satellite and cable systems — is 31 years old, while the framework underpinning the Wireless mobile device alert is 13 years old. Also, Meta previewed some of its latest virtual reality prototypes this week, with concepts that are compelling on the specs and long on the design. The company shared some details on its Tiramisu project, dubbing it "hyperrealistic VR." This set promises three times the contrast, 14 times the maximum brightness and 3.6 times the angular resolution of the Meta Quest 3. In actual stats, that's up to 1,400 nits of brightness and an angular resolution of 90 pixels per degree; and HBO Max will begin an "aggressive" messaging campaign about the practice beginning next month, according to an earnings report. Beyond stricter messaging, the company is looking to close any and all loopholes that allow users to share account passwords by the end of the year. Learn more about your ad choices. Many high-achieving women struggle with perfectionism and maintaining authentic leadership while building successful businesses. Without intentional alignment between personal values and professional goals, leaders can become disconnected from their teams and lose the very qualities that drive meaningful success. By embracing vulnerability and leading with intention, women can create more impactful businesses while staying true to themselves. Bianca D'Alessio is the star of HBO Max's acclaimed series Selling the Hamptons, the top-ranked real estate broker in both New York City and state, and the founder of one of the highest-producing brokerage teams in the U.S. She oversees a $10 billion international real estate portfolio and writes a weekly column in Money Magazine. Bianca is a frequent expert voice in Forbes, The New York Times, Fox Business, Medium, and The Real Deal. Her new book, Mastering Intentions, 10 Practices to Amplify Power and Lead with Lasting Impact, combines personal experiences with practical tools for authentic leadership. In this episode, Bianca shares her transformation from a perfectionist leader to one who leads with vulnerability and authenticity. She discusses how aligning heart, body, mind, and soul creates more powerful intentions than traditional goal-setting, and reveals the daily practices that help silence the "brain bully" while building stronger, more innovative teams. What you will learn from this episode: How to define and develop intentions beyond simple goal-setting. The importance of self-discovery and focusing on three key areas at a time. How to overcome perfectionism and create cultures that embrace risk-taking. "Leading with intention is about having an alignment between your heart, body, mind, and soul. How are you moving with force where you're fully connected? That's where you find your intention." – Bianca D'Alessio Valuable Free Resource: Check out Bianca's book "Mastering Intentions" for insights and strategies on amplifying power and leading with lasting impact Topics Covered: 01:39 – Understanding Bianca's background: From leadership development with nonprofit work to discovering real estate through people skills 02:48 – Career transformation journey: Moving from helping women on college campuses to becoming a top real estate professional 05:48 – Book evolution and core message: How personal and professional experiences intertwine to create authentic leadership 07:04 – Defining intentions beyond goal-setting: The importance of heart, body, mind, and soul alignment for true power 10:19 – Leadership transformation through vulnerability: Breaking down perfectionism to create deeper team connections and organic business growth 13:54 – Team culture changes: How authenticity creates environments where communication, risk-taking, and creativity flourish 16:22 – Annual intention-setting practice: The process of identifying gaps and focusing on three key areas for meaningful change 20:02 – Self-care as competitive advantage: Why prioritizing physical and mental health is essential for sustainable business success 23:08 – Continuous growth and adaptation: The importance of staying current and relevant in rapidly changing business landscapes Key Takeaways: "Very scary to be vulnerable. But it is the most rewarding when you can just unleash yourself and take down that armor and step into it because I promise you will find your most power by leading with that authenticity and vulnerability." – Bianca D'Alessio "I have figured out now at this stage in my career how to focus my highest and best use... I've stepped back on a lot of the micromanaging and really focus on the bigger picture." – Bianca D'Alessio "How do you focus on three things at a time really fully and focus on those being your intentions? I used to be crazy about making lists of goals that were three pages long. That's just not sustainable." – Bianca D'Alessio Ways to Connect with Bianca D'Alessio: Website: https://www.biancadalessio.com/ Book: "Mastering Intentions, 10 Practices to Amplify Power and Lead with Lasting Impact": https://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Intentions-Practices-Amplify-Lasting-ebook/dp/B0F7ZGR47T?ref_=ast_author_dp&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.pMtqQgCdcF62FceO-FuAww.q6vRzX9bAOuPg3iriScc-gCmzhCa-_ITAy3wiB6lTcU&dib_tag=AUTHOR HBO Max series: "Selling the Hamptons": https://www.hbomax.com/dm/en/shows/selling-the-hamptons/b425b881-93a3-49be-a896-dd8100edf12a Ways to Connect with Sarah E. ¡Seguimos con The Gilded Age en su tercera temporada en HBO Max!
