You are going to love this week's episode! It's an incredibly inspiring and empowering conversation with a badass entrepreneur I've had the pleasure of getting to know recently, Jill Stanton. I was familiar with Jill before we did this interview, but I really started getting to know her personally this year, both in 1-on-1 conversations we've had and in the virtual mixers she's hosted. Not only does she know her shit, but I love her attitude and the other incredibly successful and cool women she attracts.   If you don't know Jill,  she is one half of Screw The Nine To Five, a company that has inspired and empowered tens of thousands of new entrepreneurs to quit their jobs, start and grow thriving online businesses, and make over $100,000 a year, all while being location independent and living lives of meaning and purpose. When she's not CEO-ing, Jill also loves travelling the world with her husband Josh and their young boy, Kai.    Jill is also the founder of the Millionaire Girls Club, which is a place to connect with unapologetically successful women who hype you up, inspire you to play a bigger game, and have way more fun doing it. She's currently planning her first retreat, which we're going to get into in this episode.    I know I say this about a lot of interviews, but this conversation really is one of my favorites to date. And I can't think of anyone listening who won't get something valuable out of it.    In Ep. 157, we cover: Jill's journey into the online space and the early years of her business Affiliate marketing: How Jill was able to crush it as an affiliate marketer and what it takes to be successful at it How she scrapped a very lucrative business model to do what truly feels aligned (and why that's not a crazy thing to do!) Developing the mindset required to become a millionaire and her favorite money mindset resources Navigating failure and change, how motherhood has affected her business and lifestyle, and more! Jill really drops so many gems in this episode. She also gives some great book recommendations, which you can find below.     Want to listen to Beyond Influential ad-free and get other exclusive perks? The first episode in this mini series is Jill Woodworth, the CFO of Peloton (NASDAQ:PTON). Since 2018, when Jill joined, Peleton has been on a hyper scale journey – she took the reins of the finance function when the business was a private, $200m revenue company. In under 4 years since then, it is now a $4b revenue business listed on the NASDAQ. The next two episodes are moving the spotlight away from the CEO and Founder to their most important partner in the business, the CFO. You can liken the role of the CFO to that of a navigator on a ship – charged with the responsibility of charting the course, tracking the journey and ensuring hazards are avoided along the way. CFO is often the most underestimated piece of the scaling puzzle, and why we felt the need to finally shine a spotlight on them. Jill gives some fascinating views into her transition out of investment banking, scaling her team from 12 to 200, working with a passionate founder, as well as what in her opinion makes for good investor relations. We also traverse the work that goes into preparing a company for an IPO. All these give deeply valuable insights into what it takes to scale quickly and effectively. This mini series was inspired by a blog post that TDM produced last year - “What makes a great CFO” and I hope this podcast episode brings this blog to life. I have a probate investing success story for you today.  You might be surprised to learn that most of Jill Speth’s deals happen to be coming from one niche, and that is probates.  Yes, you heard me right. Probates.  Like me, Jill understands that off-market deals like probates present the greatest opportunity for all investors to do more deals in today’s highly competitive seller’s market.  Probates are by far some of the most lucrative deals you will ever do, and you get to help these sellers that just want to be done with the estate and move on with their life. Jill is a Registered Nurse and real estate investor who founded Colorado Solutions in 2009 during the financial crisis. Focusing primarily on wholesaling and rehabs, she also succeeded in building a small rental portfolio in the Colorado Springs market. In 2016 Jill earned her associate broker license and focused primarily on selling the rental portfolio in Colorado Springs to transition to the Denver market. She officially fired her boss in September 2018 and is now in the Real Estate business full-time. Jill recently bought a distressed property in Phoenix that she intends to rehab and hold as a rental.   Show Notes: Probate Investing Success Story In this show whether you are an investor or an agent, you will learn how probates can fuel and grow your new or existing real estate business. She has taken it upon herself to use her life-changing experience to shine a light on an otherwise stigmatised issue that lacks public awareness.   In this Episode: Jill speaks of the events of the day that changed her life forever, and her journey of realising what had actually happened to her. Jill Castle says every child, from toddler to teen, wants some level of autonomy and agency. She says it’s all very normal, but it can throw parents for a loop.  It’s difficult for parents to know in their heart that they are struggling, and not know where to get help. In this episode, Jill Castle and Free Your Inner Guru® host Laura Tucker talk about the dance between getting what you need as a parent, raising an independent, autonomous child, and how systemic change is needed to raise more physically and psychologically empowered humans. Meet Jill Castle: Jill is one of North America’s premier child nutrition experts. Known as a paradigm shifter who blends current research, practical application and common sense, Jill inspires audiences to think differently about child nutrition and feeding kids. A sought-after speaker, advisor, and media contributor, Jill has inspired TEDx, government, medical and parent audiences. She serves on the Board of Advisors of Parents Magazine, and a handful of privately held child nutrition companies. Jill is the author of Try New Food, The Smart Mom’s Guide to Starting Solids, Eat Like a Champion, and co-author of Fearless Feeding. She pens The Nourished Child® blog, is the voice behind a popular podcast of the same name, and regularly contributes to US News & World Report’s For Parents. Conversation highlights: Jill shares how she became a pediatric nutritionist and her subsequent challenge of having a child who was not interested in eating. The powerful impact media and marketing has on children and their parents. The role of a parent's intuition in guiding your child's nutrition. Jill’s biggest frustration about nutrition. Avoiding overwhelm: why the breaking it down into what you CAN do works. Changes Jill would like to see in the North American nutrition culture. How Jill works with nutritionists and dietitians to have a broader impact as a leader. Memorable quotes from Jill Castle: “You have to know your child. I ate my humble pie and learned a lot. I had seven years of education and training in my field, and I struggled. What is it like for parents with no education, training and experience feeding children?” “I have great compassion and experience for parents who are struggling.” “I would like to see companies and corporations offering this kind of education to their employees. They are working parents. They don’t have the time to go see a nutritionist if they have a problem.” Mentioned in this episode: Jill Castle's website The Nourished Child® Podcast More information on the Free Your Inner Guru® Community Free Community, Connection & Coaching Zoom Calls Support the podcast or join the members only Patreon community

Health and Healing through the Symphony of Music With Jill MattsonIf I’ve learned one thing in the past two years - it is the research, science, and proof of how sound affects our mind, body and spirit. Quantum science readily shows us that our thoughts, feelings, emotions, aura, etc - are all energetics combined.   We know that the evolution of 5G EMF is affecting our health in the most detriment way - likewise, the secrets of sound give us great hope to self-healing. The power of music and sound has been known for thousands of years.  As a matter of fact, the power of sound and music is so profound that many have kept it a secret, so that this information would not be used for harmful purposes.  However, with the knowledge of how to use sound, one can better connect with themselves and others, and use it to heal physically, mentally, and spiritually.Today I am joined by an expert on the topic of sound healing, Jill Mattson.  I learned about to Jill through the pioneering work of Sharry Edwards, who has the gift of hearing im-balances and illness in the body, in which she later went to develop a software to analyze all the frequencies in our body.  She is an author, artist, musician and widely recognized expert and composer in the emerging field of Sound Healing. She has written four books and produced seven CD's that combine intricate Sound Healing techniques with her original award-winning musical compositions.  Jill draws on her extensive research of modern Sound Healing, and a 20-plus-year study of ancient civilizations and secret societies in her music, lectures, workshops, and writings.  During our interview, Jill will talk about the basics of sound and how it can affect us, as well as other people, and how we can use our voices to have an impact on not only our relationships with other people but with ourselves as well.Let’s jump into the recent research that has linked sound healing to a number of health benefits, including boosting the immune system and lowering stress levels. About Jill Mattson:Jill is a prolific Artist, Musician, and Author. Jill is a four-time author, and widely recognized expert and composer in the field of Sound Healing! Jill’s CD's consist of intriguing, magical tracks using ancient & modern techniques – with sound energy & special healing frequencies to achieve profound benefits. On Today’s Episode You’ll Awaken to:How Jill’s midlife spiritual quest resulted in releasing the dogma of incongruent love from God in the bible.Jills discovery of the secrets of manipulating people through music. The underlying mathematics of music. Carefully crafted to give you a certain emotion.Music can be used to fill your aura full of light. About the work of Sharry Edwards who had this extraordinary hearing. If she walks past you, she can tell if you have an illness. How Sharry gives music to the cell to protect itself. We are vibrational beings and our daily vibrational composition changes along with our health and emotional states, but our body seeks to simply play its song in harmony! Sound has the ability to release endorphins – bringing a sense of pleasure and well-being.How the chakras and voice are congruent. The sound of a voice can represent the presence and confidence through the tone that gives a window to the underlying subconscious beliefs. The hologram of our voice. Today music is used in all aspects of medicine and spiritual growth. So do you want to know how sound and music affect you?  Some fun things you will learn when listening to this powerful healing music:Amplify Therapeutic Healing PracticesUse sound to shift Personality Habits — without using your Will Power!Use Tones for specific Emotional and Healing BenefitsIncrease Psychic AbilitiesContact beneficial Spiritual GuidesChange Chemicals within your BodySound as a tool for changes in mass consciousnessCounter Astrological Energies with MusicUse Sound to Release Negative Memories & Energy — clear Emotional BlockagesImprove Chakra Energy and open new ChakrasImprove HealthRelease Emotional BlockagesUse Frequencies to eliminate Negative EnergyPlay with Special Frequencies for Healing and other Gifts (Fibonacci numbers converted into tones, Solfeggio tones, binaural beats, star tones)Like a laser, sound energy clears subtle energy meridians, channels and negative blockages — often with immediate physical and emotional effects! Identify frequencies that your body needs for healing and ways to easily listen to them Through the science of resonance, negativity is going to transfer someplace in your body - we then have a choice to store it.How the sound is a subtle energy so listening once is not enough. You have to absorb enough for music healing to make a difference.Mattson says our body is conscious. Episode 114 Today I am speaking to Liz Lee about plant medicine a journey of self-discovery. Liz Lee specializes in helping coaches, consultants, intuitives and healers make authentic connections with their potential clients online through WordPress web design, consulting, maintenance and hosting. Liz goes beyond all "the tech stuff" to work with her clients holistically, helping them break through blocks and limiting mindsets that would otherwise hold them back from serving in their highest capacity. In this episode, we dive deep into plant medicine and how it allowed Jill to connect with her consciousness on a whole new level. Highlights you won’t want to miss: Why Liz signed up for The Sacred Scotland tour with Ryan McKenna. Why Liz was in a process of soul retrieval as a result of her recent trip to Costa Rica (Episode 17). Why Liz was determined to reconnect with her partner after her trip to Costa Rica. The dangerous habit of shutting down desire when you think you can’t get what you want. The importance of understanding how desire fuels the universe. The power of recognizing that there is an energy flow that happens in sacred sites around the world. Why self-care is so much more than looking good in a bikini, it’s about taking care of your body so that your soul can live its best life. Why keeping a promise might not be the best thing to do if it makes you miserable. The shifting point that happened when Liz decided to surrender and had a conversation with her partner to acknowledge the end of the romantic connection. How Liz came out as bisexual. How Liz felt alive again by realizing that she could attract someone that was more sexually compatible with her. The decision Jill had to make about staying in a monogamous relationship or exploiting the whole thing about being bisexual. How Jill dealt with being anxious and how became open and free of guilt and shame. How to plant medicine helped Jill to connect with her consciousness in a way that allowed her to see parts of herself that she should have not have been able to see otherwise. How Jill came out to her parents and disclosed the uncoupling. How when you reach that point of surrender, you have zero resistance. Why even though your head seems like the safest place to be, it’s really anything but safe because your brain will kick in and create stories. Why you need to get into your heart because even though you may think it's not safe to be in your heart, it’s the safest, strongest place you can be. Your heart intelligence has information for you that you simply cannot access if you're just in your head.   Shareable Quotes: “With the help of plant medicine, I have connected with this consciousness that reflects back to me my own consciousness in a way that I would not otherwise be able to see those parts of myself.” - Liz Lee “When I'm in my heart space, the triggers are simply opportunities to do deep healing of past traumas.” - Liz Lee “When you take self-care to another dimension, you're taking better care of yourself, not to look hot in a bikini, it's so that your soul can explore so that your soul can live its best life.” - Emily Aarons “Everyone has everything that they need inside of them, we are all born innately whole and we forget. ” - Emily Aarons   Resources to Take You Deeper: Liz's Website Find Liz on Istagram Liz's Choices and Recommendations: Ayahuasca - Rama Organica (Retreat Venue), Ryan McKenna, Sarah Kennedy, Kristina Lee Jensen, Cacao, and Polyamory and Polyfidelity

Jillian Jones is a recording singer and songwriter. She's been singing since she was 4, played piano and went to school for a music degree. After getting married she put music on the back burner. She spent 5-6 years away from music completely. During her second pregnancy she had a rough pregnancy with months on bedrest, two days her son was delevered healthy, she was diagnosed with a health scare and that was the catalyst for postpartum anxiety. It was during that time that Jill spent a lot of time in prayer, having to give up control and having to relearn who I was. He made it clear that aside from being a wife and a mom, that I was a musician. She hadn't been a song writer before, but she started there and two albums later, here she is. More from my conversation with Jill: What it's been to be a musician and step into that calling. Getting through postpartum anxiety. Slowly reintegrating music into her life. Obedience in the journey into becoming a recording artist. Life as a recording artist. The life cycle of recording. How Jill stays fresh in her relationship with God as a Christian artist. What her previous album was about. Struggling with faith and doubt and being okay with that. What her next album is about. *This is an affiliate link. Produced by Aaron Ankrum (Aerial View Studios, Minneapolis, MN), the 10-song record features an eclectic blend of piano-driven pop and acoustic singer-songwriter styles reminiscent of Nichole Nordeman, Christy Nockels and Sara Groves with writing that’s honest and accessible for her listeners. Jillian’s love of music began at a young age while singing and playing piano for area churches, events and festivals. Years later, following the birth of her second child, an experience with postpartum anxiety served as a catalyst for the next season in her life. It was then that music became her healing outlet. Shortly after, she began writing music with the intent to record and share her story through song. “I believe that music connects us to each other. Through it, we discover shared joys and struggles, and those common threads remind us that we are not alone.” Jillian lives in Minnesota with her husband, Blake and their two children. In addition to music, she enjoys photography, woodworking, and spending time with her family on the shores of Lake Superior. Jill Nelson is an entrepreneur who studied business as, in her words, “an act of rebellion.” She wound up as a receptionist for a business broker. She learned firsthand what buyers are looking for in a business acquisition and what gives a company value. That experience led her to build an answering service called Ruby Receptionist. She built a unique product and culture that made buyers flock to her door. Jill explains how she built such a strong culture and made sure Ruby had value beyond the bottom line. Jill’s story is a perfect example of how to do it right and go to market on your own terms. She is still CEO of Ruby Receptionist but she sold her company in a stock sale to a private equity firm. She walks me through the process and explores how it was so different from any other experience she’s had previously in her career. What you will learn: Jill’s decision to study business. How she built Ruby Receptionist. The struggle to get Ruby off the ground. Why metrics are so important. The things Jill believes contributed to her success. Jill’s motto: easy to hire, hard to empower. How she built a unique and valuable business culture. How Jill dealt with the sales process and due diligence. How to create organic growth by empowering. Why an investment broker was a key part of Jill’s deal. How finding alignment with buyers is a lot like dating. What life is like as Ruby’s CEO. Jill’s advice to the audience. Takeaways: Jill is a textbook example of the five principals. She had the vision of what she wanted. She aimed for targets to build value into her business. She researched her exit plan options and found the right one for her. She created a system that could run without her. She was on top of due diligence and hired the right people to help her. Links and Resources: GEXP Collaborative Ruby Receptionist Jill on LinkedIn Jill on Twitter About Jill: A driven entrepreneur passionate about building a one-of-kind company, Jill Nelson has grown Ruby Receptionists into a nationally recognized organization for its inclusive, people-powered company culture and its record-breaking position as one of Oregon’s fastest growing companies for the past 11 years. Since founding the company in 2003, Jill has led Ruby to double-digit revenue growth every year, and in 2015 sold the majority share of Ruby for $38.8 million to Updata Partners. In addition to her own entrepreneurial endeavors, Jill has been recognized by her peers, receiving the Pacific NW 2017 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and named the 2017 Oregon Technology Executive of the Year—the first woman to receive this recognition. A fervent supporter of local business, Jill has served on the board of Entrepreneurs Organization in a variety of roles including President of the Portland chapter and acted as a mentor in its Accelerator program, successfully helping business owners reach the $1,000,000 revenue mark.

I’m happy to welcome Jill to the podcast. Jill is a life coach and mentor for people facing big life-altering decisions. Her favorite topic to address is solo parenting. Jill is a single-mother-by-choice who had a definite idea of what her life was supposed to be. Jill is involved with an organization called Uncharted You. She shares what it was like to let go of her “fairy tale” and move forward in becoming the proud mother of her now healthy and thriving son. Jill tried IUI (Intrauterine insemination) early on in her journey but she miscarried. She explores that disappointment with me and focuses more on how she carried on with her dream for motherhood. Although Jill achieved her dream through egg and sperm donation, today’s episode is more so about letting go of your own expectations of motherhood and the reality that motherhood doesn’t end with the release form from the hospital. Some highlights of today’s conversation: Jill’s “fairy tale” and why she struggled with it. Her failed pregnancy and the 3-year process. How Jill let go of her fear, expectations, and the fairy tale. How she stayed focus on her goal. The powerful mother-by-choice community. How Jill’s journey led to personal growth. The pros and cons of solo parenting. There is no final destination as a mom. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Why the Family Book is a helpful resource. Let go of perfection and aim for progress. Alternative paths to motherhood are valid paths. (Photo courtesy of MATE Center, and used with permission.) Underwater robotics are pretty cool, anyway. But the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center, in Monterey, starts there.    Then, they use underwater robotics to teach STEM skills applicable to daily life, with a healthy dose of creativity. (Photo courtesy of MATE Center, and used with permission.) MATE Center sponsors an annual underwater robotics competition for students of all ages.   Since its inception in 2002, their competition has expanded, to welcome student teams from all over the world.    MATE Center's seventeenth International ROV (remote-operated vehicle) competition is happening Thursday through Saturday, June 21-23, 2018. (Photo courtesy of Marine Advanced Technology Education Center, and used with permission.) Jill Zande is MATE Center's Associate Director.  In our 2017 interview, she shared the story of MATE Center, with which she's been involved since they opened in 1998, as well as the story of their underwater robotics competition. And at the time we spoke, MATE Center had just launched a new nonprofit: MATE Inspiration for Innovation, of which Jill is President.  Their goal: to continue to offer the underwater robotics competitions and expand the program in the future. Jill offered a preview of the 2018 underwater robotics competition, explained what's involved for the students and shared some resources for parents, teachers and educators. On this edition of Over Coffee® you will hear: What the 2018 underwater robotics teams will need to accomplish, in the international competition in Federal Way, Washington; One especially challenging aspect facing the teams (hint: this one can be difficult for professional engineers!) The three aspects of the International ROV Competition's location-based theme, and what teams need to do to work with them; The skills students gain, as the ultimate goal of MATE Center's underwater robotics competitions; How the competition is preparing a global community of innovators for a changing workplace; How Jill's own daughter and her classmates are responding to the underwater robots as they grow; What Mate Inspiration for Innovation is currently doing (and how you can help!) The resources through which MATE Center is making underwater robotics accessible (including their workshops, maker kits and curricula); One project available for a "mini-competition" for anyone who doesn't necessarily want to compete but would still like to build an underwater robot!; Jill's vision for the future with Mate Inspiration for Innovation, and the underwater robotics competition. How the competition is just a beginning, to getting students starting to think about taking their robots into their communities.   Editor's note: Jill emails, "I would like to acknowledge and thank our current sponsors, including the Marine Technology Society (MTS) and the MTS ROV Committee.  Like all of our wonderful volunteers, this competition could not take place without our sponsors' financial and technical support." Safe journey to her, and to all the teams competing in the 2018 International ROV Competition!

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the United States, affecting 40 million adults. Persistent worry has a lasting negative impact on both mind and body. In children, anxiety often looks like avoidance, clinging, aggression and other challenging behaviors. This can make it difficult for adults to recognize and support children in managing the anxiety that’s at the root of the behavior. In this episode, Jill Molli teaches us new skills as she shares her personal journey with her own anxiety and with helping her daughter manage similar feelings. Discover the powerful transformation that occurs as Jill and Meg shift from thinking about anxiety to naming the feeling, taming it and developing healthy strategies for managing it. Essential Takeaways • Anxiety in children presents itself through many different behaviors. • A child’s ability to self-regulate won’t develop without first experiencing co-regulation with a calm adult. • Naming the feeling, rather than asking a child to think about the feeling, is the first step in managing anxiety. Steps for Tomorrow • When you or a child feels anxious, name and acknowledge the feeling rather than questioning why it is there. • Practice active calming so you can become a co-regulator for children who feel anxious. In fact, man's best friend gets very little attention in the community. And that's odd.   Mans' best friend has a long and storied history. Some say our friendship goes back 30,000 years.   And estimates place K9 ownership in the United States at 78 million. And it's estimated 36.5% of US homes have at least one dog. So you think the topic of how to train a dog would be a more frequent topic amongst preppers.   But only a small fraction of survival podcast episodes and blog posts are dedicated to our furry buddies. (We're culprits of this oversight too, to be fair.)   Perhaps the problem is thinking we need to turn them into full blow military working dogs. This is a long process with heaps of specialized knowledge needed and is time-consuming.   The reality is this: Most of us just want something between Cujo and Mr. Buttons the spoiled pet.   In this episode, we discuss making this happen.   ~ How to Train a Dog And Turn Them Into a Survival Asset Topics Discussed: ~   How Jill became a prepper When she realized how valuable a dog could be in a survival situation What patrol training is Training a dog for scent detection and alert Teaching your furry friend appropriate levels of aggression The best dog breeds for survivalists The worst dog breeds for survivalists When small dogs can be an unexpected survival hero How long does dog training take for the animal to become useful Appropriate ages for different times of training Where obedience training fits in The time investment needed How online dog training classes differ from in-person classes   ~ Become a supporting member here:   http://www.itrh.net   ~ Resources from this episode can be found at:   http://www.intherabbithole.com/e236

As black women, we need to understand that our lives and the outcomes of them are within our control more than we know. The decisions and intention we carry into each day, leading into the rest of our lives, make an impact we can’t fathom. Jill Flowers is Rosetta’s guest on this episode and she serves black women as a spiritual mentor and life coach, one who helps you get in touch with the deeper reasons for your existence and the ways you can enrich your own life independent of the circumstances you face. Listen and be inspired by Jill’s frank but down to earth advice - and be sure to share the episode with others you know could benefit. When black women are living a happy and fulfilled life, everyone benefits. It’s tempting for black women of all ages to believe that taking care of themselves is selfish. People depend on you. People need you to be there for them. But if you are not healthy, strong, and vibrant, how can you expect to be there for them when needed? It’s not possible, which is why it’s the most unselfish thing you can do to take care of yourself. In this episode, Jill Flowers explains why you need to place a higher priority on providing for your own health and happiness and the positive impact it will have on the people you love if you do. Don’t miss it. You have to be active in your own healing and happiness. Life is not only something that happens all around you, it’s something you have an influence on yourself. You get to contribute, you get to impact the world in significant ways. That principle holds true for the healing and happiness you need and want as well. In this episode, Jill Flowers describes what happens when black women determine to take part in their own healing and pursue their purpose with all that they are - and she gives some tips for how you can get started on your own healing journey right away. You won’t want to miss what she has to teach. If you set your intention for the day, nothing outside of you can change that unless you let it. One of the most impacting things Jill Flowers spoke about in this conversation with Rosetta was the power of setting your personal intention for a given day. She says that when you take the time each morning to pray, meditate, and center yourself for the day - and then proactively decide how you will show up in that 24 hour period, nothing can stop you. It’s a choice, a determination that only you have the power to initiate, and Jill explains how it can happen. If you can adopt this practice it can set you free from circumstances and put you in the place of control over your own life. Black women naturally put others first - but sometimes it is what kills them. We are women, black women - and we naturally have a place of concern and compassion for those in our lives. But our tendency to put others first can be overdone, to the exclusion of our own health, well-being, and emotional strength. Jill Flowers says that we’ve got to stop, we’ve got to develop a plan for keeping ourselves healthy and on track before it’s too late. You can hear Jill’s advice and discover some steps you can take right now to reorient your path so you don’t crash and burn like so many women do. It’s all on this episode of Happy Black Woman. Outline of this great episode [0:29] Rosetta’s intro to this episode and her guest Jill Flowers. [2:55] How Jill decided she was going to dedicate herself to being a soul activist. The Soul Activist takes one from “Pain to Power to Purpose”. This is what Jill does in her work with Black Women. She helps Black Women heal from the false narratives and beliefs that keep them from realizing their high potential. The ideas that you are not enough or The “I”m a strong black women” syndrome, I can do it on my own is a belief that needs to be healed. Jill believes that Black Women are the link to healing the Black Community. She believes that when Black Women have a full understanding of their Alkhemy she then becomes the medicine for her family. She is capable of harmonizing her family and thus the community because she herself is harmonized. “Consider, you are powerful beyond measure and you have limitless potential.” Jill Flowers defines a modern day Renaissance Woman as Transformational Speaker, Wedding Officiant, Activist, Author and not the least of these Mother and Wife. Do you own your own business? Or have you ever dreamed of starting your own business? If so, today’s episode is for you. According to Jill Salzman, moms make the best entrepreneurs because we know how to make it up as we go. Jill created the mom entrepreneur MeetUp, The Founding Moms. Their mission? Helping moms get down to business. Jill shares what happens at these monthly MeetUps in cities around the world, a few amazing and inspirational stories of successful mom entrepreneurs and why getting together with other women is so powerful. If you own your own business or have dreamed of starting one, today’s episode is a must-listen. The Minute by Minute Recap :58-2:27: How Jill “decided” to start The Founding Moms. Flat out freaked out about running two businesses with two small children, on a whim she went to MeetUp.com and started a meet up. 6 months in, they had over 200 members online. 2:35-4:15: At the beginning, the MeetUp groups addressed the logistics of ‘How do I do this?’. Then it morphed into a marketing, branding conversation. 4:15-7:00: The Founding Moms is currently in 40 cities in the U.S., 9 countries with 8,000 members and growing quickly. Members are all ages with children of different ages. When you show up to one of Jill’s meetings, there’s always a speaker giving practical, actionable tips on marketing or legal or branding. Chicago and Oak Park groups have over 600 members. At each meeting, there are no more than 20 people. In San Francisco, for example, they have larger groups. For the most part, they’re smaller. 7:10-8:18: The Founding Moms is free to join in your city and then $10-$15/month per event. Soon there will be an online forum that’s a paid membership (stay tuned!). 8:22-9:10: The online course is not available quite yet, but there will be an active forum, a Directory (like Angie’s list for mom entrepreneurs), video courses. 9:15-11:50: Another thing currently available from the Founding Moms is called the Founding Kit, which bundles services all business owners need (things like graphic design, a website, virtual assistant, etc.). All clients are already in business and see the value of the kit. 12:00-12:40: Megan picks a small bone with Jill…there’s no Founding Moms community in Portland. What?! Jill welcomes any mom with her own business who’d like to start this group to go to FoundingMoms.com/StartOne. 12:55-14:25: Jill’s advice for moms that want to start their own business: get out fast! The Founding Moms is that place women can go to sit in a room with other mom entrepreneurs to get the inspiration they need to take that next step. One conversation could charge you right out of the corporate rat race. Whether it’s The Founding Moms or just visiting a local co-working space, have conversations with people who are doing this work already. Talk to them about how they do it. 14:25-18:37: Jill shares a few stories of successful women entrepreneurs. One woman came to the MeetUp every month wanting to start something but not knowing what. She now runs a wildly successful branding firm by meeting the needs of the very women she was communing with. Another woman showed up at an exchange and wanted to quit her job to start a business with her husband. They started OptionsAway.com, a now successful business that allows you to hold the price of an airline ticket for a few days. Brilliant! Another woman was experimenting with chemicals in her kitchen to create an amazing “perfect manicure” product, she’d show up at MeetUps with her product and people’s mouths would drop. She is now being courted by major beauty brands. The company is Liquid Palisade. 18:37-20:04:Having the inspiration and watching other women be courageous is contagious and very powerful. Find Jill and Founding Moms online, on Twitter and Instagram.
