If You Want To Add More Joy To Your Life, You Should: Integrate daily movement practices that boost your Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins Join or create a community that makes you feel included and supported Start viewing joy as a non-negotiable part of every single day When I think about the most important things in my life, the list includes family, friends, health, and joy. But a lot of us can struggle with that last part, especially during times of adversity. The good news is that you can create more joy in your life by making it a priority every single day and coming home to the community around you. Joy Should Be Non-Negotiable with Radha Agrawal My friend Radha Agrawal literally oozes joy. She is the co-founder and CEO of DAYBREAKER, a global community focused on creating joy through movement practices, co-founder of Thinx, and author of Belong: Find Your People, Create Community, And Live A More Connected Life. Radha’s joy-sparking power has earned her global recognition, an opening spot on Oprah’s latest tour, and has brought her her greatest joy in life, her 20-month-old daughter Solei. The 8 Core Pillars of Joy After feeling lost and distracted in her 20’s, Radha decided that she wanted to come home to herself and reprioritize her joy in her life. This realization lead her to identify the 8 core pillars for finding joy in your life and has made a daily commitment to practicing those pillars. Practicing joy, making friends and building community have become a touchstone in her life and she has launched her businesses as a way to help others do the same. Using DOSE To Reverse Engineer Your Happiness Chemicals Radha’s mission is focused on helping others open up their neurochemical pathways through movement practices. These practices don't take much time, but they are a daily investment that is simply non-negotiable. By joining a space where a community can gather and create joy together, you can reverse engineer your happiness chemicals (Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins) to create functional happiness for yourself and the people around you. By inviting joy into yourself, and then spreading it to those you interact with, you will be able to integrate pleasure stacking into your life and start enjoying more than you ever thought possible. Are you ready to DOSE your life and pleasure stack through joy practices and movement? Share how you are going to cultivate more joy into your life with me in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “Sometimes along the way we lose ourselves. And for me, at 30, I had kind of lost myself. And I sort of said to myself, ‘okay, this is the beginning of my path to returning back to joy, returning back to myself, returning home to the deepest sense of belonging and belongingness in me, and then in the humans, I surround myself with, and then all of life's juice will open from there.” (8:14) “It was just such a wild experience, to support 15,000 people in opening up to their 2020 vision. Little did we know that Covid would happen, but in that time, in that experience, in that stadium, it was this joy bubble that I will never forget as long as I live.” (16:26) “How grateful I am at 42, and at 40 years old for my body to have a baby. So to juggle for me is actually a gift, and I really see it as that. So in those moments where I am feeling stressed or feeling overwhelmed with all the responsibilities of being a mom and being a professional, I am constantly reminding myself what a gift it is.” (19:32) “That’s what practicing joy is, it's finding movement practices in moderation that aren't going to crush your body, but that's going to invite something that you want to do every day because it feels good.” (28:42) “The reason why men separated us was because they knew if women were too connected and too supportive of each other, that we would just instantly take over the kind of sex species in terms of who would be leading the planet. And I just think this is really the time for us to hold hands as a community of sisters.” (38:02) In This Episode Learn about the ‘secret sauce’ to the successful community that is DAYBREAKER (11:00) What it was like to navigate new motherhood while on tour with Oprah (13:55) How the DOSE method can help you show up during times of serious adversity (21:58) Ways to incorporate joy and movement practices as part of your daily routine (30:15) The power of community and surrounding yourself with a supportive collective of women (37:40) Resources Mentioned: Free 2 week trial of DOSE membership plus 50% off the first month with code "drmariza" DAYBREAKER Website Follow DAYBREAKER on Instagram Follow Radha on Instagram Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative

Trauma has many faces and many sources. For some, it may stem from a childhood event. For others, it could have been caused by an unhealthy relationship. But one thing ties all forms of trauma together—healing from them requires a release. Releasing trauma is different for everyone. One way that has been found to be effective is dance movement therapy. Just ask Orit Krug. About Guest/Topic Orit Krug is a board-certified dance movement therapist who helps women get past trauma through dance therapy so they can enjoy healthy, lifelong relationships with their partners. No stranger to trauma herself, Orit experienced betrayal on a daily basis due to her tumultuous childhood. This eventually affected her romantic relationships as she grew older. Orit got into unhealthy, abusive relationships with emotionally-unavailable partners. After one of her partners left her, she understood that it was her negative attitude that pushed him away. She then resolved to deal with her long-standing trauma. And that’s how she found dance movement therapy. Through dance movement therapy, Orit learned how to release her trauma in a healthy and productive way. Join Orit Krug as she discusses how organic, expressive, and creative movement helped her rewire her nervous system and enabled her to break unhealthy relationship patterns. In This Episode Learn about how childhood trauma can affect your future relationships Discover the relationship between trauma and movement Learn the power of movement when it comes to stirring up layers of trauma The difference in the approaches used in trauma therapy and dance movement therapy Learn how movement can mirror trauma responses Quotes “By the time I met my husband, I was like, wow. He was like an anomaly because he was the most gentle, sensitive, caring man I’ve been with, which was so different from any other relationship. It was such a shock to my nervous system and everything I knew that I was just sabotaging it day in and day out.” [2:50] “Because all the men I grew up with, my family, were so explosive and unpredictable, I just couldn’t believe that he was so calm and gentle. I just kept waiting until he would explode or until he showed his true colors. I just kept constantly testing that through different approaches. It was like an addiction to me to sabotage.” [5:04] “Every movement that we do represents a different behavior, a different way we cope with the world.” [08:23] “Even if you don’t know, when we go through trauma and extremely stressful events, this thinking, talking higher executive functioning part of our brain goes offline. And the trauma, memories, feelings get stored in our body. They get stored as fragments. And the memories are actually sensations. ” [11:52] “Because trauma is stored in the body, when we start to move our bodies in different ways and new ways, it’s going to inevitably stir up this old trauma that’s been stored there.” [15:56] “Trauma stays trapped until it’s released. And it’s up to us to find the most helpful and healing ways to release it.” [32:33] Resources Mentioned Wired for Love Free Course Orit Krug’s website Take the Post Betrayal Syndrome QuizJoin the PBT Institute Membership Community

Quotes: “If you are going to make long-term sustainable change, you need the mindset and you need the habits and routines. And often what we do is we try to say we need better habits or we need this routine, which is wonderful… but the thing that was actually standing in my way was mindset.” (9:21) “The antidote to the striving mindset is the feel-good mindset, and that is self-compassion, flexible thinking, and gratitude.” (16:00) “In terms of feeling good, the place to start is to start awareness about how you feel and how you want to feel. Which sounds pretty basic, but most of us have not learned how to do that.” (23:51) “I kept playing with the idea of ‘what is the shortest amount of time I can give this for the biggest impact?’, and I did find that five minutes, it's not about the amount of time, it's the energy that comes from it.” (32:15) “It’s not about adding another thing to your to-do list, it’s a way that you ground yourself so that you can be here and feel good. That’s how you stay out of the burnout trap altogether.” (38:21) In This Episode Learn why perfectionism and comparison thinking is standing in your way (9:45) How to navigate and reorient what it means to have it all (15:43) Tangible practices that can cement a feel-good mindset instead of a striving mindset (18:52) Tips for creating your personalized 5-minute wellness routine (31:15) Suggestions of rituals that you can relish in to make time for you where it fits into your life (35:45) Resources Mentioned: Register for the Perimenopause and Menopause Relief Summit The Feel Good Effect by Robyn Downs Real Food Whole Life Website The Feel Good Effect Podcast Join the Real Food Whole Life Community Follow Robyn on Instagram | Pinterest Related Episodes: Essentially You Episode #149: Why Mindfulness and Mindset Are Key To Healing Miracles with Elaina Ray Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative

This week's episode of the Plant Medicine Podcast offers an overview of the three psychedelic ballot measures which passed this past election cycle. Attorney Noah Potter joins to share his expertise in psychedelic law and describes the details of Initiative 81 in DC and Measures 109 and 110 in Oregon. Noah is a New York-based attorney, media commentator, and psychedelic legalization strategist who has been discussing topics of psychedelic law on his blog for the past decade. Noah has also advised Decriminalize Denver with their successful Denver Psilocybin Mushroom Initiative and is involved in policy reform advocacy in New York for 2021. In this conversation, Noah describes the details of these three psychedelic measures, sharing what is accomplished by each. In DC, Noah explains how Initiative 81, Entheogenic Plants and Fungus Measure, follows the example of previous successful ballot measures dealing with psychedelics by focusing on a decriminalization approach that places activity involving entheogenic plants among the Metropolitan Police Department's lowest law enforcement priorities. Along with this success on the east coast, Oregon saw two psychedelic ballot measures pass on election day: Measure 109, Psilocybin Mushroom Services Program Initiative, and Measure 110, Drug Decriminalization and Addiction Treatment INitiative. In terms of Measure 109, Noah explains how the broad nature of the ballot initiative leaves many of the specifics to be determined by the Oregon Health Authority, with the measure focusing on determining a legal structure for providing psilocybin-based therapeutics services. This measure does not, however, legalize or decriminalize psilocybin for personal use. Measure 110, on the other hand, does focus on the decriminalization of a wide array of substances, as well as addiction treatment. In the last minutes of the conversation, Noah describes the interplay between these two intiatives as well as some of the objections given for the particular approaches they take. In This Episode: Learn the details of the three psychedelic measures which passed this election cycle The difference between decriminalization and legalization How the DC measure is more limited due to city funding being controlled by Congress What Measure 109 in Oregan will allow in terms of psilocybin therapy The interplay between Measure 109 and Measure 110 in Oregon. Quotes: "Decriminalization is a far narrower approach. You're simply either removing criminal penalties or you're downgrading criminal penalties." [5:24] "[Measure 109] is a model for clinical, on-site consumption —you don't walk into a dispensary and take your medicine home. It's very narrowly focused on that inpatient clinical model." [13:15] "The [Oregon] health authority isn't even going to start accepting applications for any of the license categories until January 2nd, 2023." [19:50] "So you've got a fairly limited decriminalization and it doesn't apply to sale or distribution...that's the very simple version of [Measure] 110." Diet culture has told us that exercise is the tool we need to use to earn the food we want to eat, burn off the food we have already eaten, and control our bodies. In reality, exercise and movement can be something that adds dimension and joy to your life, but only if you let go of this perfectionist mentality. Movement has so many other benefits, and controlling the size of your body is just simply not one of them. Key Takeaways If you want to stop using exercise as a tool of control you have too: Accept that exercise is not the way to control the size of your body Use movement in a way that adds to your wellbeing rather than restricts you in the name of health Focus on how movement makes you feel and listen to what your body is trying to tell you When Did Movement Get Replaced by Exercise? There is a good chance that at some point in your life, movement for the sake of enjoying movement was replaced by exercise and the desire to control what your body looks like. I remember the exact moment that happened to me as a young girl who was in a bigger body than the rest of her schoolmates. Despite loving being active, society told me that I should be more concerned with my aesthetics than with my relationship to movement. Shifting Your Mindset Around Movement I want you to know that this perfectionism mindset is not the truth, and it is possible to embrace exercise as a sustainable way to add value and joy to your life, rather than just something you hate and use to earn your food. The all or nothing mentality that society has pushed around exercise and our bodies is getting in the way of you doing the kind of movement that feels really great. By getting clear on what your body is telling you, you can weave movement into your life in a way that is nourishing and more aligned for you. Your Worth Is Not Based on What You Can Do Getting stuck in the mentality of having your worth based on what you can do is a false promise. So many things can happen outside of our control that can shake this foundation. Instead of placing your value in your exercise routine or the number on the scale, movement can be a stepping stone to realizing that movement is about so much more than just controlling your body and keeping it smaller. By being gentle with yourself in terms of expectations, letting go of the all or nothing mindset that society has bred into us, and finding a type of movement that aligns with what makes your body comfortable. How has your relationship to movement and exercise changed through the presence of diet culture? What type of movement do you feel aligns with where you are, here and now? Share your thoughts on Intuitive Eating Principle 9 with me in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode Learn about my story of feeling shame around my body as a kid (6:50) How to embrace sustainable movement rather than an exercise to control the size of your body (9:05) Tips for getting out of the all or nothing mentality when it comes to your worth (15:50) Discover the benefits of movement and how to listen to what your body is trying to tell you (18:20) Why perfectionism can be one of the biggest barriers is when it comes to embracing intuitive eating (25:15) Quotes “We're going to talk today about how to shift your mindset and practice from exercise being something you hate, something you do to earn the food you want to eat or burn off the food you did eat, and into something that is a sustainable practice that really adds dimension and joy to your life and brings so many other benefits besides just controlling the size of your body.” (2:30) “For me, my endurance, movement and exercise became a way for me to hide and run away from my other problems in my life.” (14:33) “There's just so many things that can happen that then shake that foundation if you stop your personal development and growth at the stage of just thinking you are only as good as what you can do.” (16:31) “There are so many reasons why you may be predisposed to all or nothing thinking, you may have learned perfectionist outlooks as a young person, or if you were perfect, then that meant that the important people who kept you feeling safe in your life wouldn't go away. For me, that's one of the origins of my perfectionism, and I have had to learn how to unpack that.” (25:54) “How can you start to weave movement into your life in a way that is really nourishing? Is it a way for you to care for your body in a basic way? And works with your personal preferences and your life setup?” (31:10) Links Join the Listen To Your Body Newsletter LTYB 288: How To Ditch Dieting (Intuitive Eating Principle 1) LTYB 289: Honoring Your Hunger (Intuitive Eating Principle 2) LTYB 292: Make Peace With Food (Intuitive Eating Principle #3) LTYB 293: Challenging The Food Police (Intuitive Eating Principle 4) LTYB 296: 3 Ways to Make Eating More Satisfying (Intuitive Eating Principle 5) LTYB 297: 3 Ways to Honor Your Body’s Fullness (Intuitive Eating Principle 6) LYTB 300: 4 Questions to Ask About Emotional Eating (Intuitive Eating Principle 7) LYTB 301: How To Practice Body Respect (Intuitive Eating Principle 8) Check out the full show notes here! The skill that you can develop through things like intuitive eating and body neutrality is giving yourself the time to stop, pause, consider, before acting, or realizing how you are feeling in a certain situation.” (9:20) “The food as fuel mentality can be a helpful stepping stone for some people, especially when you are afraid to experiment or trying to overcome the do’s and don’ts of the food police.” (16:32) “Are you ever allowing yourself to become present when you are eating and be in tuned with what you are enjoying about the experience?” (19:05) “If you put off your satisfaction or you deny your satisfaction for a particular food or something that you think would sound really good… and then you eat it and you pay attention, little by little you build these skills.” (23:08) Links Join the Listen To Your Body Newsletter LTYB 288: How To Ditch Dieting (Intuitive Eating Principle 1) LTYB 289: Honoring Your Hunger (Intuitive Eating Principle 2) LTYB 292: Make Peace With Food (Intuitive Eating Principle #3) LTYB 293: Challenging The Food Police (Intuitive Eating Principle 4) Check out the full show notes here! In This Episode Learn about the actual benefits of working out aside from just losing weight (9:30) Tips for truly getting hooked on exercise and finding your ‘why’ (12:05) Why fitness is not a ‘one size fits all’ space, even when it comes to trainers (20:20) Advice for people who want to make the most out of the workout space they have without feeling self-conscious (24:30) Which movement Simone never wants to do and which one she could do every day (30:23) Quotes “People always associate working out with wanting to lose weight, and my goal as a trainer is to help people move because they are going to feel better, you are going to feel happy, you are going to sleep better, you are going to feel lighter in your movement. So I really help them see the reason besides wanting to lose weight why you should want to work out.” (10:35) “I think people will stay with you because of how you make them feel. So if you make them feel good and you give them what they need but also what they want, they will stick around and they will keep being active.” (14:20) “I started to realize that it is not really one size fits all. And not everyone is out to be the next Serena Williams or the next Michael Phelps. You have to meet people where they are, and you have to be flexible.” (20:42) “People are always going to say something. Whether they like you or don’t like you or they wish they could do what you are doing, people are always going to say something. But if you truly know why you are doing it for yourself, I think you should be okay.” (25:34) “We are in the same boat, and that is fine. Just because I didn’t work out for 2 weeks or 1 month, doesn’t mean that I am not worthy. I am still worthy, you are still worthy, and we are going to try again tomorrow!” (29:39) Links Join the Listen To Your Body Newsletter Follow Simone on Instagram | Facebook Simone Tchouke Website Check out the full show notes here! The reality is though that there are chemical and immunological and genetic things that do differ by blood type that has to do with how we deal with stress.” (12:10) “The reality is that we are constantly molding ourselves and remolding ourselves and remaking and remodeling ourselves in response to the environment. And if we didn’t, we wouldn’t be here today.” (15:57) “Food is a political issue in this particular time period. And to be able to simply anything beyond this idea that there is a one size fits all that is going to work for everybody, that is a very very dangerous thought.” (27:28) “I decided that I would write software that would simply write everybody their own book. So in our clinic, we do an analysis and generate software, one of a kind diets, that essentially result in the patient having a book written for them right then and there.” (38:52) “These variations, we shouldn’t be running away from it. We should be accepting it, we should be exploring it, turning it sideways, upside down. Because it is all about learning, it is all about finding out more about ourselves. We should be celebrating the differences rather than trying to sweep them away into a one size fits all thing.” (45:28) Links Live Right For Your Type by Dr. Peter D’Adamo 4 Your Type Blood Test Find the full show notes for this episode here Keep up with all things Love Is Medicine Follow Razi on Facebook |Instagram

Do you sometimes feel stuck in the way that you feel or the habits that fill your days? Dr. Shauna Shapiro is a clinical psychologist, author, TEDx speaker, and mindfulness expert who is passionate about neuroplasticity, or our brain’s ability to change. The feelings of not being enough or self-critical thoughts are hardwired into our brains, but when you are able to pay attention with kindness and curiosity instead, you can start to change your brain for the better. Neuroplasticity tells us that change is always possible. Shauna has created daily practices to increase your happiness set point and is here today to share the science behind mindfulness. Everyone from Google to LinkedIn has sought out Shauna’s expertise, and you too can embrace her practices to start living a happier life. Science tells us that the only way to increase our happiness is through internal changes, not external ones. By training your brain to search for kindness, compassion, and happiness, you will automatically start to look for the good in every situation and realize your interconnectedness to the world around you. When you care about yourself, you take care of yourself, and through becoming your own ally you can allow yourself to take a different pathway and heal more completely. Your past doesn’t have to impact your future happiness, and with Shauna’s help, you can shift from doom and despair to hope and positivity. Are you ready to start choosing practices that help you live a healthier life, connect with the love that is inside of you, and grow your happiness muscle? Share your daily self-love rituals with us in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode Learn about neuroplasticity and why it means an eternal possibility of change Practices that can help you change and train your brain to become happier Explore the difference between mindfulness and meditation and how to embrace them Specific ways that you can support your health and soothe yourself out of loneliness How to practice mindfulness when parenting or dealing with chronic pain The importance of becoming your own ally instead of your worst critic Quotes “When we shame and judge ourselves it actually shuts down our capacity to learn, which inhibits our ability to change. And so when we judge ourselves for a behavior that we don’t want to continue, we actually lock ourselves into that very pattern.” (3:36) “No matter what has happened to you, no matter what your past, no matter what mistakes we have made, no matter what our current circumstance is, it’s never too late to change.” (8:46) “Even though external changes, winning the lottery, getting the new Tesla, whatever it is, external changes don’t change our level of happiness. Internal changes can. Happiness can be trained because the very structure of our brain can be modified.” (13:26) “When I start to feel afraid or lonely, instead of pushing it away or instead of judging myself or instead of spiraling into gloom and doom, I meet it with kindness. I say ‘oh sweetheart you are feeling really lonely right now’, and I soothe myself, that I can be my own ally, that’s such a radical perspective, to actually be on your own team.” (25:55) “When you start planting these seeds of kindness, of joy, of gratitude, they grow bigger. In This Episode Learn about the backstory behind the change of the title of this podcast (2:44) Why I want to focus on intuitive eating, self-compassion, and mindset (7:35) The importance of aligning our energy with what you feel connected too (8:15) Reasons why I decided to change the name to Listen To Your Body (13:20) What you can expect to learn more about with this new rebranding (15:02) Quotes “I began to feel a growing disconnect with the name. Recently in the last few months, I have been in an incredible coaching program, I have been getting coached around things like energy and energetics. And what started to become clear to me was the podcast as its own entity and its own energy and myself as I was continuing to grow and shift and diverge into this slightly different direction, our energies weren’t matching up anymore.” (8:36) “Even though I know very instinctively and intuitively that it is the next thing for me to do, there is still always this battle.” (10:36) “Were working toward a more peaceful way of being in our bodies, whether that is incorporating intuition more, it’s moving toward intuitive eating, moving our bodies more intuitively, moving our bodies for the joy of moving our bodies, incorporating things like spiritual curiosity, what does that mean and how does it factor into our mind body and our mind-body connection, meditation, all sorts of things.” (14:51) “You’re still going to hear things that are related to food and movement and mindset, but the energy, the intention, is different, it’s shifting. And I feel so excited about it and I can’t wait to share it with you.” (20:30) Links Order Core 4 The Book Here Check out the full show notes here! When it comes to our journey of body liberation there can be some boundaries, including the processing of emotions. Jess Demasi is a certified eating psychology coach, the founder of Wholly Healed and is passionate about helping people redefine health without diet culture. Today Jess is here to encourage you to give yourself permission to define what it is to be a woman in this life for you and only you. Create A Radical Sense Of Awareness This episode is all about unpacking some of the stigmas and privileges that we can all unknowingly carry, and taking a step back without judgment but instead with curiosity to keep asking yourself the hard questions when it comes to your relationship with your body. Jess is on a mission to create a radical sense of awareness and help women unapologetically show up as who they are. Today is all about gaining skills to develop your own sense of liberation, whatever that may be for you, and removing judgment towards what you are feeling in a healthy way. You are more than just your body, and it is through the separation of your identity and your body that you can deal with what is really going on internally and heal yourself from the inside out. By asking the hard questions and feeling where the healing needs to come from you can learn to care for yourself and become your own autonomous agent. Are you ready to start on your path to liberation? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section on the episode page. In This Episode Learn about the role of desirability privilege and desirability politics in our society (10:10) Deconstructing body autonomy and being aware of your own motivations (20:12) How to embrace your journey of liberation as an experience just for you (23:20)) Tips for living a liberated life and showing up as who you are unapologetically (26:05) Ways to use the RAIN acronym to process your emotions in a healthy way (28:42) Quotes “Being thin and pretty as a woman should not be a pre-requisite for the value that we’re given, nor should it be a requirement for our existence.” (5:46) “Any time we have what we call the happiness destination paradox, where we imagine that our emotions, our internal world, would be different if our external world was different. That is when you have that chasm, and you are taking internal issues that should be worked on internally and you are projecting them onto your external appearance.” (15:07) “I am here to ask the questions to get you thinking, and then what you do with that is completely your responsibility.” (21:01) “All that I can ask for is a radical sense of awareness.” (22:23) “I don’t think that the world benefits from women who are living to please other people. I think that actually what we desperately need, for kindness and compassion and to solve the world’s problems, in our individual lives and in the larger aspect of the world, is women showing up in their completely whole, authentic selves.” (26:08) Links Wholly Healed Website Follow Jess on Instagram Enroll in Steph’s Intuitive Eating Group Coaching Plan Here Emotions Wheel Nutritional Therapy Association Join The Core 4 Facebook Club Here Harder to Kill Radio is sponsored by the Nutritional Therapy Association. In This Episode Learn to listen to your hormones and what your symptoms are trying to tell you How to honor your hormone issues and work within the hormone hierarchy What to do if you have inflammation that you cannot explain or fix Specific pillars, habits, acronyms, and lifestyle hacks to start implementing today Giving women permission to pay attention to their bodily intuition and awareness Quotes “There is no shortage of information, but there is a whole lot more confusion and overwhelm probably in a lot of ways than there was before.” (8:10) “We are so worried about what everybody thinks, we overextend ourselves, we are always worried about how that will make us look if we say ‘no’ to somebody, and we need to get better at all of that because otherwise, we are creating a whole lot of stress, cortisol release, inflammation, all of it.” (13:31) “We’re the anti-gurus, we are so imperfect, we are so right there with the women who listen to us, we are kind of right there with you. We had to choose our health, our families, our marriages, and the other things that really matter above pushing this book out there, and that's okay.” (18:55) “It's so worth it for you to feel like ‘I can just listen to myself and honor what works for me’, and not get so caught up in what's working for someone else, or again what may be very well based in good science, it just doesn't land well for you with your goals, your hormone imbalances and your particular set of stuff right now.” (26:15) “I think as women we often want to go back to ‘well that worked really well for me last time’. And then we try it and it doesn't work so well for us this time because we are in a different place right now. Hormones change and we got to be able to roll with that.” (38:30) Links Histamine Guide & Acronym Infographic The Sarah and Dr. Brooke Show Hangry Book by Sarah Fragoso and Dr. Brooke Kalanick Better by Dr. Brooke Website Find the full show notes for this episode here Keep up with all things Love Is Medicine Follow Razi on Facebook |Instagram

ABOUT SARAH Sarah is a mother of five and a midwife that serves families in the Twin Cities. She began my journey as a birth worker shortly after the birth of her first daughter in 2000. She wasn’t happy with the birth that she had at a local hospital and found out about doula’s the day after her daughter was born. She never went back to work, and instead chose to train with DONA and become a birth doula. She has been attending births as a doula for 18 years! Sarah found out that she was pregnant again when my daughter was five months old, and quickly realized that the birth that she wanted wasn’t going to be found in a hospital. She switched to a home birth and never looked back! Her daughter was born peacefully at home with a midwife, a doula, and her family. Sarah maintained an amazing friendship with her midwife- that eventually led to an apprenticeship after the birth of her third daughter. She took some time off to give birth to my twins (also born at home) and went back after they were well-established nursers! Sarah finished her six-year apprenticeship by sitting for the NARM test and getting her CPM. Sarah calls herself a traditional midwife because she believes that midwifery isn’t medical, and that birth is not a medical event. She is there to serve women and help them to find the right sources of information that fits their needs. Every family is individual and should be seen as such. IN THIS EPISODE: Learn the history of U.S. midwifery Learn the legality of homebirth midwives in the U.S. Hear from Sarah Kelly, CPM Learn why U.S. birthing people deserve options in childbirth ALSO FEATURED: Ashely Sipes is a mother of two and a birth activist. After experiencing a traumatic hospital birth, Ashley decided to give birth at home. Currently, home birth with CPMs is illegal in Ashley’s home state of North Carolina. Ashley advocates for the legalization of home birth for all.
