There's nothing more important, as a human being, than having the rights to live life on your terms - provided it doesn't intentionally hurt someone else. From body autonomy, to loving who you love, and worshipping the way you choose to worship. Everyone deserves these rights. Yet, in the politically charged environment - not only in the U.S., but across the globe - the war against personal human rights is on. Helping me unwrap this fight in a big way, is my friend Alex Jamieson. Artist, activist, author, filmmaker, and overall beautiful human being. She's making her voice known through her Instagram videos, by calling out the hypocrisy that is the GOP hatred towards women, LGBTQ individuals, and anyone who doesn't fit into their box of how you should live your life based on their definition of living an"uncloseted" - so to speak, in their world. In this episode you'll... Discover Alex's amazing art in her Abortion Trading Cards and Facist Tarot Cards Unlock ways for standing firm in your resolve to be you regardless of what others think Learn ways to have a voice in this U.S. election to make a difference. About Alex Alexandra Jamieson audaciously spends much of her waking life making art despite not having any art school debt. A third-generation self-taught artist from Portland, OR, she gets her studio dirty in Brooklyn, NYC. In her other work, she has published five books on food, communication, and personal growth, and was the co-creator and co-star of the Oscar nominated documentary Super Size Me. Her latest art includes the Abortion Trading Cards and the Fascism Tarot Deck, both fundraisers for abortion access groups and pro-democracy work. She creates commissions for private clients around the world and has been featured as a writer and coach in Oprah Magazine, Martha Stewart Living, Good Morning America, CNN, USA Today, and more. As we head into the holiday season that may not be looking or feeling at all like you would wish for, and into a brand new year, where so much still feels uncertain, I hope that you will take some of these inspiring people and ideas with you. We all know that collaboration is often critical to success, as Simon Sinek says “alone is hard, together is better.” But how can we be better together? It doesn’t happen by just getting together around a table or these days a zoom call, it happens when we create a culture of radical alignment. In this episode Bob and Alex share: Their 4-step conversation framework that builds trust amongst teams The research behind leading with empathy to have meaningful conversations that lead to action The importance of trust and psychological safety within an organization How to create a culture where diversity thrives and everyone's voices and ideas are valued. How to debate and share safely within organizations to generate new ideas The relationship between emotions and creativity Why we experience imposter syndrome and how to manage it Why children benefit from the conversation framework and how it can strengthen their social-emotional skills You can learn more about their book and offers here. In today’s episode, I’m welcoming back our first repeat guest, Alex Jamieson. However, this time she is also joined by her husband Bob Gower. They have written a new book together called Radical Alignment, and as I mentioned to them during our conversation, I believe it should be required reading for all university and college students, CEOs, politicians, and quite honestly everyone! I think their souls have timed this book with the world’s inability to have a conversation that can solve problems. In this conversation, I speak with Alex and Bob about how they met and the evolution of their relationship. They share lessons learned from previous relationships and how they broke old patterns to allow this one to be different. They explain how they moved through each phase of their relationship with intention and they agreed that “if something is important, then we are going to talk about it.” They talk about their methodology for having difficult and challenging conversations, and how to engage with loved ones even when you don’t agree. There is a condition though, you can only use this with people who are there in good faith. They have to want to connect with you and be willing to allow a different perspective than their own. We could use more of that in our world right now, couldn’t we? As Bob explains during this conversation, “relationships are people growing machines. You get the support, solace, fun, and excitement only when you embrace the opportunity to learn and become a better version of yourself.” Working on ourselves is great, but the real expansion and growth opportunities come when we are in relation to others. “When you give yourself over to a relationship, then the relationship gives back to you.” ~ Bob Gower I hope that you will not only listen to this episode but also watch the video version of it on YouTube so that you can witness the way these two amazing humans listen to and regard each other. It’s truly something to behold. I hope this interview inspires you to have a deeper, more honest conversation with someone in your life. I hope that you are brave enough to not know all the answers and to be open enough to see another’s perspective. This is the way forward, both for ourselves as individuals, and also as a country and even the world. If you are needing support during this pandemic, I invite you to join my free Facebook Group that I have created for you. It is so important to me that we are ready to exit the Waiting Room when it’s time to re-enter our new lives on the other side of this. #053 — Masterminds, Creative Risks and the Fuck It List Positive psychology asks us to focus on what’s right with us. What are your strengths? What are your values? What do you want? But what if you’re not sure what’s right with you? We all have built-in negativity bias, so it’s a whole lot easier to identify what we don’t like about our lives, what we’re not satisfied with, than it is to define what is going well. Alex Jamieson has your back. She’s designed The Fuck It List, a strategy giving you permission to honor the negativity bias and get all of the things you hate about your life down on paper. Then she flips the script and guides you in replacing the bad with a positive alternative, crafting a life focused on what you truly care about. Today, Alex joins me to share the fundamentals of positive psychology and explain how she used its principles to create The Fuck It List. She discusses her life as a mom, describing her son’s sweetness and her own efforts to be more thoughtful of her actions. I ask Alex about her ability to set powerful boundaries, to take creative risks, and to build relationships with communities of women. Listen in for Alex’s insight around the value of masterminds in supporting women through change and learn to say fuck it as you work toward a life you love! Robyn Youkilis, a certified wellness expert, author of the best-selling book Go with Your Gut, and leading authority on gut health and weight loss. Robyn’s new book which we talk about on this episode, Thin From Within - The Go with Your Gut Way to Lose Weight is part coaching guide and part cookbook, with 75 delicious recipes, to help readers optimize their digestion and shed weight from the inside out. Robyn teaches you how to feel comfortable, confident and energized in their bodies, and how stubborn weight can melt away when they learn to tune into their gut. Robyn has been featured on Today Show, The Cooking Channel, CBS News, and many more media outlets. Can you talk a little about your book? What is it about? Her aim of writing book was to make people passionate about making changes in their lives. She wanted people to have a conversation around the word ‘thin’ in a new way. She aims to promote self-love through her book. She has not used the word ‘thin’ in reference to a body type but because we have just developed an ideal with the word ‘thin’. She wanted to connect with women who were still chasing this ideal consciously or sub-consciously. She does not talk about weight in terms of the number on a scale but more of what it is an individual is chasing. According to Robyn, a desire to lose weight means we want something different in our bodies and something different in our lives. She talks about meal preparation and food recipes in the book that can help you lose weight. Can you tell us about the benefits of fermented foods? Fermented foods are typically raw and have some pro-biotic nature in them. Fermented foods are good for your microbiome. A microbiome is a bacterium that resides in and on your body. It is responsible for a number of body processes that help our body run and function properly. What was one of your first jobs? The first job she had was when she was in high school. She was a ski instructor and rock-climbing instructor. She also worked as a babysitter while in high school. How did you get into health coaching? Robyn says she did not follow traditional route to becoming a health coach. It was not something she wanted to do from her childhood. She was doing odd jobs before going into college and she was also interested in acting. She did musicals as a kid and loved theater as well. However, she opted for international law in college mainly because she always had an eye for atrocities and wanted to help people around the globe. Later, she worked for UN for some time and in local non-profits doing criminal court work. She eventually found her way to Los Angeles and did small acting gigs over there. She started to get into cooking and food. She came across this nutrition school, The Institute for Integrative Nutrition which is considered as the world’s largest nutrition school. She enrolled in one of their programs and graduated as a certified health coach. She opened up a health coaching practice after she graduated. It has been nine years and Robyn has not looked back. Did you ever think you would write a book? Robyn says she was never a good writer. She recalls her time in high school when her best friend used to help her in work that involved any sort of writing. Robyn says writing books was something that really happened on its own once she started to list down all the things she was offering to her clients in her programs. How did you end up getting a book deal? Alex Jamieson, a famous food chef and health counselor who also happens to be Robyn’s friend invited her to a conference. Alex introduced Robyn to a literary agent over there and told the agent about Robyn’s work. That agent helped Robyn create her proposals for different publishers. Robyn eventually got a book deal with a publisher through her agent and was able to publish both her books through the same publisher. What failure later became a success in your work? She was very hesitant in doing group coaching programs in the first five years of her practice. Initially, she tried group coaching programs but was not very successful in it as only one or two people would sign for it. She decided to drop this idea of group coaching and went solo coaching for the next few years. Eventually, she launched her first successful group coaching program Rockstar Roadmap, it was a huge success. It felt fun, she didn’t feel it was forced. What is the best advice you have ever been given? The best advice she was given was by Joshua Rosenthal who is the founder of The Institute of Integrative Nutrition who said: “Life is a long time”. It simply means that you don’t have to do all the things at the same time, you need to go slowly and steadily. You can do different things in different phases of your life. Any final thoughts you would like to share with the audience? Robyn advises everyone to take a moment every day just to connect with themselves. Say something nice to yourself before going to bed or in the morning. How can we connect with you? You can find more about her work and her books through her website. Her website’s URL is https://www.robynyoukilis.com

I’ve come to realize at my age, is that I’ve spent a lot of my life being in conflict with what I really wanted to do vs. what others wanted me to do. I’m now beginning to embrace being a rebel, and I don’t mind it at all. I’ve been doing my research on Deb time, and I’ve broken it down into 3 parts. Going out into the world to see what is out there and available and science-based. I want to look for people that are smart, honest and well qualified to lend a viewpoint to my life. Getting involved with other people one on one and in groups. I am so happy to be in so many groups that help meet this need in me. It’s not only fun, but it’s empowering. To be around others who want to make a difference and walk with them. The “me” piece - how am I feeling in my own body? My mediation coach works with me on much of this. I’m working on something so basic as walking and my posture. I am using Dr. Aviva Romm’s book The Adrenal Thyroid Revolution and I am learning so much before I embark on this 28-day journey. I was so floored after I had conversations with my Dr. and I felt like I knew more about thyroid issues than he did. This encounter left me feeling very icky about the entire medical profession. I have to trust my body and trust how I am feeling in my body. Emotions are a part of our physical health, and how I feel about myself plays a huge role in my health. That is a huge part of this journey and I’m getting ready to take back my power. In the next episode, I’ll be talking about picking the day to start the journey and plan for success. Welcome back to episode 97! I’m Alex Jamieson. In the last week or two it feels like the world is on fire. Videos of people being shot and killed, snipers killing policeman and women in the line of duty. Rage and hope filling the streets, tears, anger and sadness. It feels like a lot! I was in Arizona to see a doctor and because I was in a car I was listening to the news a lot. I was feeling sad and angry and feeling really lost. It was Sunday night after I got back to the city that I was able to talk to people I was close to, people that I love. I think that was the only thing I knew how to do. I am so pleased and heartened and hopeful to have Ayesha Meriweather on the show this week and to talk about how we are really feeling and honoring the anger and really listening to each other. Sometimes I think that’s all that we can really do to heal is really listen. That’s listening to our bodies, listening to ourselves, honoring what we see, not judging it or making it bad. Just listen! We just need to listen to each other. Sometimes that’s hard to do because we want to have the answers. Ayesha and I talk about that in this interview. We want to have it figured out and have the answers but we don’t always have that. We are not always perfect in how we say things but your intention matters! I hope you enjoy this interview with Ayesha Meriweather. She is one the co-founders and creators of The Girlfriend Manifesto. She has been creating safe, empowering spaces for women online and in person at retreats with Girlfriend Weekends. Ayesha is very passionate about helping women heal in their own lives and with each other. Enjoy! A holistic health counselor and co-star of award-winning documentary Super Size Me explores women’s cravings—for food, sleep, sex, movement, companionship, inspiration—and teaches them to listen to their bodies for a healthier, fuller life. Transformational health expert Alexandra Jamieson is a woman on a mission. Having overcome her own food addictions and the weight and health problems these habits caused, she learned something life-altering: when we listen to our cravings, they will lead us onto the path of deep healing. Since her own personal breakthrough more than a decade ago, Alexandra has dedicated her life to helping other women learn to listen to the wisdom of their cravings and make food their greatest ally as they step into their lives with authentic passion. In this book she’ll show us how: · Our cravings are the gatekeepers of our deepest longings and desires · Transforming habits set us free · Detoxing unclutters our bodies and minds so we may engage in our lives with more power and authenticity · Embracing our sexual selves makes us more powerful · Trusting ourselves and surrounding ourselves with a nurturing community is essential for a vital, healthy, hot life

In this show, Emily addresses some of these key sex-killing issues, and shares tips to help you get your sex life right back where you want it. Everyday, people all over the world are adopting a healthier lifestyle. More people are going vegan, paleo, primal, or "real food" than ever before. What's causing this cultural shift is: 1) people are sick and tired of being sick and tired and 2) beliefs about food bind us together, create communities, and communities inherently grow. With the internet eliminating the borders of people sharing ideas, beliefs, and insights, these communities are expanding rapidly. Even though the health conversation has exploded worldwide, different views by different communities can bring people together AND tear people apart. We're going to talk in depth about this today. We're also going to talk with our special guest, Alex Jamieson, about her experience being a part of the Oscar nominated film Supersize Me. She's going to share the intimate effects it had on her life, as well as our culture at large. We're going to cover food cravings, raw vs. cooked food, mistakes people make on diets, plus a whole lot more. Get ready, because this episode is powerful! In this episode you'll discover: How Alex went from being sick and overweight to a renowned gourmet chef and health coach. What Alex's experience in the film Supersize Me taught her about food and illness. How Supersize Me changed the landscape of food around the world. The surprising story of how Alex transitioned out of a vegan lifestyle. Why our genes need to be considered when choosing the foods we eat. How labeling the way we eat can unknowingly separate ourselves from others. Why fear can drive people to keep secrets about the foods they eat. The critical piece that people mistake with Albert Einstein's vegetarian perspective. What common factor can unite us to have a healthier, happier society. Why a vegan diet can be incredibly healing (for the right people at the right time). Why eating more raw foods can be critical to your health and vitality. How cravings can be misconstrued and why we need to honor our cravings. The #1 mistake people make on a vegan diet.
