GUNN: It's going great. Chukwudi, who plays Murn in Peacemaker, is one of the main characters in the movie and people are freaking out over how good this guy is. Literally freaking out. I think that I'm really happy. I gave a bunch of scenes to Marvel right before Christmas break. Kevin went... They were all really, really, really stoked. But also, it's not going to be the movie people... It's different than what people are going to expect. It's a hard road, but I'm really happy with it so far. Have you started filming the holiday special yet or is that still upcoming in the shoot? GUNN: It's still upcoming in the shoot. We were supposed to shoot one day in LA, and there's too much Omicron around, so we couldn't do it. We're going to have to fit it in. I haven't started yet. I'm excited to. It's fun. The holiday special is... I'm almost jealous of it, even though I wrote it because people freak out so much on how much they love the script for the holiday special that I'm almost like, "Well, wait. I've got this movie here I've been working on for two years. You love the holiday special that I literally wrote in a very short amount of time." But, it is really funny and really good. MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS [5:54] Evidence Surfaces that Ikaris May Return Sooner Rather than Later https://www.thecosmiccircus.com/evidence-surfaces-that-ikaris-may-return-sooner-rather-than-later/ https://www.cbr.com/mcu-eternals-ikaris-may-return-evidence/ Yesterday, Emmy Kennard, known as emmytriggerzzz on social media, took to TikTok to post this video regarding her brother, Joe Kennard. [TikTok video no longer available] Thankfully, her caption states that no NDAs were broken in making this TikTok. In the video, she comedically implies that her brother, Joe Kennard, a stunt double for Richard Madden (Ikaris) in Eternals, is currently slated to work as a “character coming back into the MCU.” A look at his IMDb shows that Kennard has only worked as Madden/Ikaris' stunt double and no other MCU character so far. It also shows that he recently stunt doubled for Madden on the miniseries Citadel (where they may have chatted about future gigs). So, all signs are very much pointing to Ikaris here. Thanks to this TikTok video, the probability of Ikaris returning has increased greatly and also become a matter of sooner rather than later. It's possible that he's stunt doubling for a different MCU character, of course, but this seems unlikely for reasons that I've stated above. The ending of Eternals saw Ikaris fly off into the sun (literally), potentially bringing about an end to his existence, but we never actually see what happens to him. This kind of open ending and the Celestials' desire for answers about what the Eternals did to their brethren, could leave a way for that Ikaris to return. Then, of course, there is also that whole multiverse situation going on in the MCU right now which has created a possibility for practically anyone returning at any time. [9:41] Letitia Wright returns to Black Panther II set months after accident https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-59993234 Actress Letitia Wright has resumed filming on the Black Panther sequel, almost five months after being injured when a stunt went wrong. The British star, who plays Shuri, was said at the time of the accident in August to have suffered minor injuries. But Marvel's bosses later said she turned out to have sustained "a critical shoulder fracture and a concussion with severe side effects". Filming on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was suspended in November. A spokesperson for the star said she has now recovered and production has resumed. Wright's Princess of Wakanda character is expected to play a bigger part in the blockbuster's sequel. The late Chadwick Boseman led the the 2018 film and his role has not been re-cast following his death in 2020. Wright, who also appeared in Avengers films Infinity War and Endgame as well as Sir Steve McQueen's TV anthology Small Axe, was hurt in what was described as an overnight stunt rig accident in Boston. However in November, Marvel bosses revealed: "What we had initially thought were minor injuries turned out to be much more serious with Letitia suffering a critical shoulder fracture, and a concussion with severe side effects. "It has been a painful process and Letitia has been home recovering with her doctors and the support of family. "We've adjusted our production schedule so she has the time she needs to heal, but there's only so much we can do without Shuri! "We also want to thank Letitia for everything she's doing to get back to the set - we know how much she loves this role, how tough it's been for her to be away, and how hard she's working to recover as quickly as she safely can." Production was halted in November but has now resumed, according to Wright's representative and Marvel's parent company Disney. Wright's spokesperson told BBC News: "Filming resumed this month as planned and we're on schedule." This delay comes on the heels of another, with Nyong'o's co-star Letitia Wright having just recently returned to set following her recovery from a fractured shoulder and a concussion that she sustained in an incident on the film's set in November 2021. The positive COVID tests meant that production on Wakanda Forever was again halted, a week after resuming, reported THR. No details regarding the health of Nyong'o or the other cast and crew members were released. Disney+ [14:07] Disney Announces Plans for Expanded Livestream D23 Coverage https://www.cbr.com/disney-d23-expo-expand-livestream-coverage/ Disney announces that the livestream for its upcoming D23 Expo will feature even more announcements, panels and content for fans to enjoy. Disney announced that 2022's D23 Expo livestream will feature more panels and presentations than in previous years. In a recent announcement, Disney noted that due to a large number of fans who will be unable to attend the in-person D23 event in Anaheim, CA due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the 2022 livestream will feature "more panels and presentations than ever before." The full schedule will be announced in the days leading up to the event, which will take place between Sept. 9 and 11. Along with this announcement, D23 added two more stages, The Premiere Stage and the Backlot Stage, which will join Hall D23. As for tickets, the prices range from $89 single-day tickets and $229 three-day tickets for Gold Members, while general admission tickets will cost $99 and $270 for single and three-day tickets, respectively. For Hall D23 Gold Members, three-day preferred seating tickets are available in a limited quantity for $899. This year, guests must be D23 members to purchase tickets for the event, which will go on sale Jan. 20. Along with a slew of other exhibits and presentations, D23 will feature a new exhibit called "Mickey Mouse One: Walt's Plane," which will see Walt Disney's plane restored and displayed in the Anaheim Convention Center. There will also be a special presentation from The Walt Disney Archives, as well as the return of the Mousequerade costume contest. These join previously announced experiences such as a 50th-anniversary celebration of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, a window dedication event for Walt Disney Archives founder Dave Smith and milestone anniversary ceremonies for Lilo & Stitch, Hercules, Aladdin and The Muppets Christmas Carol. 2022's D23 Expo will celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company. Announced in September 2020, the bi-annual Expo will host panels, presentations and interactive elements for fans to celebrate all the magic and adventure Disney has to offer. This covers film, television, theme parks and more. It was also previously revealed that, along with the already announced lineup, D23 will also unveil new content from Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel projects. This year, D23 will be held both in-person and on livestream. The last full in-person event took place Aug. 23-25, 2019 and presented extended looks at content from Disney/Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox, including Raya and the Last Dragon and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. While the next event was originally intended to be held in 2021, it was delayed due to restrictions caused by the pandemic. Tickets for D23 Expo 2022 go on sale Jan. 20. [18:10] Marvel Studios Debuts the First Trailer For Moon Knight https://www.superherohype.com/tv/510119-marvel-studios-debuts-the-first-trailer-for-moon-knight Marvel Studios' Moon Knight | Official Trailer | Disney+ The next Marvel Studios show is just over two months away. Marvel and Disney+ have announced that Moon Knight will premiere on Wednesday, March 30. That news was accompanied by the series' first trailer, which finds Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac) in a world of trouble. For one thing, Steven isn't his real name. He's actually Marc Spector, and he has dissociative identity disorder. Steven is just one of his personalities, and he seems to be completely unaware of Marc or his alter ego, Moon Knight. Marc/Steven is also the “fist of Khonshu,” the Egyptian god of the Moon. There are even a few glimpses of Khonshu himself in the trailer, unless Marc really is losing his mind. However, we can't assume it isn't real, because we see him in action as Moon Knight. And it looks like his costume mystically appears on his body. Here's the official description for the show: “The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc's enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.” Additionally, Marvel released a new poster for the series as well. [23:31] Marvel's Eternals Tops Shang-Chi's Disney+ Debut Numbers https://www.cbr.com/marvel-eternals-beats-shang-chi-disney-plus/ In its first five days on streaming on Disney+, Marvel Studios' Eternals bested Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in terms of watchers. On Twitter, analytics company Samba TV pegged Eternals has having drawn in two million households in the United States over its first five days on streaming. Box office reporter Luiz Fernando then put those numbers in context in a subsequent thread, saying this constituted the biggest debut for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film on Disney+. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was the previous record holder at 1.7 million. Fernando then provided a number of movies for comparison from other streamers, such as Netflix and HBO Max. While two million certainly proves a respectable number, Eternals was outdone by such films as Mortal Kombat and The Suicide Squad. That being said, those movies released simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters, while the two MCU movies started with theatrical runs. As such, the comparisons are not necessarily apples-to-apples. Released in Aug. 2021, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings saw the titular hero making his MCU debut. In the film, Shang-Chi sets out to stop his father, Wenwu, from accidentally releasing an ancient evil known as the Dweller-in-Darkness in hopes of bringing back his deceased wife. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings earned $432.2 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of between $150 and $200 million. Reviews for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings were also quite positive, and the film earned a 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Three months later, in Nov. 2021, Eternals arrived. The film follows the Eternals -- who are aliens created by the Celestials to destroy the Deviants -- on Earth as they reunite to prevent an event known as the Emergence. The movie earned around $402 million against a budget of $200 million. However, Eternals didn't fare nearly as well with critics. Reviews for the film were mixed, and Eternals now sits at 48 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the first MCU movie to earn the "Rotten" distinction on that review aggregator. The box office takes for both of those films were affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which still has many reticent to return to theaters. Additionally, neither movie released in China, which is one of the biggest market for movies in the world. Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings are available to stream now on Disney+. Eternals will receive a home media release on Feb. 15. [29:34] 'It's incredibly exciting!' - town's reaction to reports that new Marvel series is about to start filming in Halifax https://www.halifaxcourier.co.uk/news/people/its-incredibly-exciting-towns-reaction-to-reports-that-new-marvel-series-is-about-to-start-filming-in-halifax-3527728 Halifax is buzzing with talk of the new Marvel series coming to film at Halifax's Piece Hall. As first reported by the Courier on Wednesday, it is understood the latest six-part series from Marvel - Secret Invasion - is what will be filmed at the historic venue later this month. Halifax's MP, Holly Lynch said: "I confess to being a massive Marvel geek and so the prospect of filming taking place here in Halifax is incredibly exciting! "It's another chance to showcase Halifax to the world and once again demonstrate we can host massive productions like this. "Whilst I am against second jobs for MPs, if they are in need of extras, I very much hope they let me know!” Andrew Murphy, one of the owners of pub Meandering Bear - which is only a short walk from The Piece Hall - said: "It's great for Halifax. "I understand that many Marvel fans like to visit places where they've been filming so hopefully it will bring more tourism to the area. "Hopefully the crew will spend some money in the town centre while they're here. It's all good news for the town." Linda Buckley, Manager of The Gate Cafe Bar and Deli in Westgate Arcade, said: "Anything that brings people to Halifax is a good thing. "There's quite a lot of things being made in Halifax at the moment. It's becoming quite the spot for filming." As reported by the Courier, The Piece Hall will shut between Monday, January 24 and Monday, January 31 for filming of what is understood to be Jambalaya. According to a number of online sources, that is the working title for Marvel's much-anticipated series Secret Invasion, starring Hollywood legend Samuel Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn. Filming for the six-episode series, which also features performances from Oscar-winner Olivia Colman and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, began in London last year and is due to be released on Disney+. There has already been activity in The Piece Hall courtyard thought to be related to the upcoming filming, including the arrival of lorries, small tents and set-building equipment. From January 21, there will be road closures in place around The Piece Hall and the filming team will be preparing the area for filming, including setting up large lighting frames and rigs. Businesses inside the Piece Hall will be shut while filming is taking place from January 24, and there will be no access to The Piece Hall. There will be 260 members of cast and extras plus 200 members of crew involved in the project. The Piece Hall and its businesses will be open as usual from Tuesday, February 1. Nicky Chance-Thompson, CEO of The Piece Hall Trust, said: “We can confirm that The Piece Hall will be closed while filming takes place between January 24 and. "It's a great coup for this iconic venue but we are unable to share any more details about the precise nature of the production at the moment.” SP WACKY QUESTION OF THE EPISODE [33:06] FEEDBACK [39:17] TWITTER [39:17] Legends S.H.I.E.L.D. @LegendsofSHIELD Who is your favorite @TheEternals? https://twitter.com/LegendsofSHIELD/status/1483481165612912646 Derrick - Hack the Planet - Crow @KazekunForever Druig probably won me out as favorite Eternal in the film. Zhao On Faith, The Original Ending And Harry Styles https://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/eternals-spoiler-special-chloe-zhao-on-power-death-dogma-and-harry-styles/ Eternals director Chloé Zhao recently provided fans with the reason why Gilgamesh had to die in the Marvel Studios film. Speaking to Empire, Zhao explained how Gilgamesh's death was pivotal to the development of Thena. "She had no choice but to embrace her vulnerability, her messiness," Zhao explained. "Before she had Gilgamesh and he gave her the most important thing: 'remember, you have it in yourself.' She can't fight it with fire, she's got to let that that [sic] water come in. Thena needed to lean into the soft side of her, and remember the memories that are going to heal her. This was written in the treatment, but losing Gilgamesh is a tough thing for the whole group." Zhao also revealed how it was important to her and Thena actor Angelina Jolie that the character's mental health struggles and strong relationship with Gilgamesh were present throughout the film. "From the very beginning, [Angelina] said, 'Chloe, we gotta have Thena stay feminine, stay vulnerable, break her down. I'm willing to go there. That's very Important,'" she explained. "And also for such a strong woman to not be afraid to lean the shoulder of a strong man. That partnership Thena and Gilgamesh have; she's not afraid to lean on him, and that was important for Angie." During the film, Thena suffered from Mahd Wy'ry, an illness that caused her to forget her memories. Zhao said it was important that one of the strongest Eternals was also seen as vulnerable, adding, "We're talking about one of the strongest female warriors out there in myth, and then we're talking about breaking her down to a point where she's lost herself. She can battle anyone else. But she can't protect herself from herself, not with strength, and not with power." In Eternals, Gilgamesh decided to watch over Thena so that she could keep her memories, despite Ajak warning that this could result in Thena attacking him. When the Eternals reunited, Gilgamesh sacrificed himself in a battle against the Deviants in order to protect Thena. Of course, Gilgamesh wasn't the only member of the Eternals to meet their demise in the film. Leader of the Eternals Ajak was killed by a Deviant, but it was later revealed that Ikaris, in his commitment to Arishem, sacrificed her to the evil creatures. When he failed to allow the Emergence of Tiamut in the final battle against the other Eternals, Ikaris flew into the sun, guilt-ridden from his decisions. While there were initially doubts among audiences as to whether or not Ikaris died or whether he had simply travelled elsewhere, screenwriter Kaz Firpo confirmed the character's fate in an interview with CBR, explaining, "That act is basically saying, 'I made a mistake, but I can't face my family, and I can't go on living.'" Ant-Man 3's Bill Murray Confirms Villainous Marvel Role https://www.cbr.com/ant-man-and-the-wasp-quantumania-bill-murray-villain/ Bill Murray & Eli Manning Have a Day in Brooklyn! | The Eli Manning Show https://youtu.be/pGgJZG2Tot8?t=237 Speaking to Eli Manning of the New York Giants, Bill Murray reveals that his secret Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania role is a "bad guy." Actor Bill Murray has revealed that his role for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is unlike the usual do-gooders he's known for. Speaking to former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning on The Eli Manning Show, the retired athlete questioned Murray about his part in the upcoming film. "Aren't you in, like, a superhero movie coming out? Ant-Man?" Not only does Murray confirm his involvement in the film, but upon being asked what his power is, Murray responds with, "My power is, I'm a bad guy." It was first reported that Murray, known for comedy films like Ghostbusters and Stripes, would be joining the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe installment back in October 2021, with the actor later confirming his involvement a few weeks later while speaking to German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. A rumor picked up by The Illuminerdi in late December hinted at Murray playing Krylar, an obscure, Hulk-related character from Marvel comics. However, Krylar's only appearance had him heroically helping the Hulk, debunking the rumor -- unless the film really changes Krylar up. The main villain of Quantumania will be Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors. The actor already played a variant of Kang, He Who Remains, in the finale of Loki on Disney+, which teased the villain's eventual MCU debut. Being that 2018's Ant-Man and the Wasp featured multiple antagonists not working together, it is unclear at this time if Murray's mysterious role will be connected to Majors', or someone else entirely. However, Murray's involvement in the superhero flick does mean a reunion will occur that did not take long to happen. The actor was just featured in Ghostbusters: Afterlife alongside Ant-Man actor Paul Rudd, though Murray's screen time was brief. At the red carpet premiere for Afterlife, Rudd summed up Murray's involvement in the MCU to nothing more than a rumor. While Rudd remained tight-lipped, it is clear that Murray's involvement in Quantumania is more than just whispers and assumptions, and he talked about the film's star further on The Eli Manning Show. Speaking with Manning, the comedy actor joked that Paul Rudd doesn't agree with his "Sexiest Man Alive" status, so neither does Murray, saying, "I'm gonna go along with Paul." Beyond that though, no other details about Rudd, Ant-Man or Murray's villainous role were shared. Gemma Chan Creates Her Own Good Work https://www.wmagazine.com/culture/gemma-chan-eternals-sersi-marvel-interview Eternals Star Confirms Their MCU Return: 'Marvel Owns Us for Life' https://www.cbr.com/marvel-eternals-gemma-chan-sersi-mcu-return-tease/ From W Magazine: Will you play Sersi again? Yes. Marvel owns us for life. [Laughs] One of the stars of Marvel Studios' Eternals confirms that her character will inevitably appear again in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe project. Eternals star Gemma Chan confirmed her return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with W Magazine, Chan was asked how she felt about playing Eternals member Sersi in the recent MCU film. "It was interesting. In Eternals, she starts out shy and then discovers her power as a leader. That was fun," Chan said. When asked if she will ever reprise her Eternals role in the future, Chan had a cheeky response: "Yes. Marvel owns us for life." This is not the first time Chan has spoken about Sersi's transformation throughout the film, previously referring to the character's journey as a sort of "coming of age" story as she grows into her power. "I mean, yes, Sersi is a superhero, but her powers are not kind of the most obvious or the-the flashiest," Chan said during a November 2021 press conference attended by CBR. "She's not, you know, the best fighter. But what she does have is empathy and a real affinity for humankind and the earth." She continued, "That was one of the enjoyable things about the film, was going on that journey with that character. You know, it's kind of her coming of age, even though she's probably thousands of years old. But she learns to trust herself and to grow into her own power, really. And that was a really interesting thing to explore." How and when Chan will reappear in the MCU remains unclear, though Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously referred to Sersi as the de facto main character of the Eternals, and the film's ending left the door open for the remaining Eternals to reprise their roles in a future MCU installment. One half of the group sees Sersi, Kingo and Phastos abducted by the Celestial Arishem, while the other half encounters Harry Styles' Eros and Pip the Troll in space as they explore the stars. According to the director, Chloé Zhao, this is a stark contrast to the originally "bleak" ending she had planned for the titular Eternals. "I didn't hate it, because I'm used to films that are more melancholy. But I don't think it went down well with audiences," Zhao said. "It used to end with everybody back on the ship, minds erased and just going on to another planet, like The Twilight Zone. I remember when it goes to black, everyone was like, 'I don't know what to do.' And also, it's the MCU, and you want to be excited for what's next." Directed by Zhao from a script by herself, Patrick Burleigh, Ryan Firpo and Kaz Firpo, Eternals is slated to release on Disney+ on Jan. 12. Disney+ Adds Eternals to Updated MCU Timeline https://www.cbr.com/disney-plus-mcu-eternals-updated-timeline/ The release of Eternals on Disney+ confirms when the film takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. On Disney+, there's an option to have every available MCU project display in timeline order. In that list, Eternals takes place after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and before Hawkeye, which is the release order for those titles. This makes Eternals the 27th project overall in the timeline, though it's noteworthy that 2008's The Incredible Hulk and the three MCU Spider-Man films are not available on the streaming service. Eternals follows the titular group of powerful aliens, who were sent to Earth by the Celestials to stop the Deviants. Parts of Eternals take place before most other events in the MCU timeline, but the majority of the action takes place after 2018's Avengers: Endgame. Following the reversal of Thanos' Blip, the Eternals are forced to come back together in order to once against stop the Deviants and prevent an event known as the "Emergence." Due to the five-year time jump in Endgame, Eternals takes place in approximately late 2023. Released on Nov. 5, 2021, Eternals earned $401.8 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $200 million. While that's low for an MCU film, Eternals released during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had people reticent to return to in-person screenings. Additionally, the project has not released in China, which is one of the biggest markets for films. While Eternals performed respectably at the box office, the film fared far worse with critics. At the time of writing, Eternals holds a 47 percent on Rotten Tomatoes among critics. This score makes Eternals the first MCU film to hold the "Rotten" distinction on the review aggregator. Still, the audience score for Eternals is much higher on Rotten Tomatoes and currently sits at 78 percent. It is unknown at this time whether Eternals will receive a sequel. However, Gemma Chan, who played Sersi in the film, has indicated that her character will indeed return at some point in the future. Directed by Chloé Zhao from a script by herself, Patrick Burleigh, Ryan Firpo and Kaz Firpo, Eternals is available now on Disney+. The movie will receive a home media release on Feb. 15. DISNEY+ ECHO DISNEY+ MCU TV SERIES FEATURES WRITERS FROM THE PUNISHER & DAREDEVIL SEASON 3 https://www.theilluminerdi.com/2022/01/08/echo-writers-punisher-daredevil/ Marvel Taps Daredevil and Punisher Writers for Disney+'s Echo Series https://www.cbr.com/marvel-daredevil-punisher-writers-echo-disney-plus/ Before the Echo Disney+ series enters production, join The Illuminerdi as we analyze the creative talent behind the Hawkeye spinoff. Hawkeye was a MCU TV series that followed Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, two heroes who hold the titular mantle. The action-comedy also introduced Marvel fans to newcomer Alaqua Cox, who played Maya Lopez. Lopez was an elite member of the Tracksuit Mafia, Kingpin's private guard. Maya Lopez learned that her father was murdered on the order of Kingpin, who had lied about her father's death and manipulated Maya into becoming his own living weapon. In the season finale, Maya shot Kingpin for his betrayal, though it's unlikely her attack will seriously impair Wilson Fisk Echo will take place after the events of Hawkeye, following Maya Lopez as she learns to fight crime and find her own way in the world. As reported by Murphy's Multiverse, the series will feature Marion Dayre as the lead writer, who worked on Better Call Saul. Dayre will be joined by Shoshannah Stern (Supernatural, This Close), Bobby Wilson (Rutherford Falls, Reservation Dogs), and more. Ken Kristensen and Dara Resnik will also work in the Echo writer's room, and their inclusion is the most intriguing considering their prior work. Kristensen wrote three episodes of the Marvel Netflix series, The Punisher while Resnik penned two episodes of Daredevil season three. This makes Kristensen and Resnik veterans of MCU TV, with work that predates the Marvel TV and Marvel Studios merger. These writers understand the street-level side of the MCU, having created nuanced, layered stories featuring icons like Frank Castle, Matt Murdock, Kingpin, Karen Paige and so many more. Benjamin Poindexter, John Pilgrim, Detective Mahoney and other underrated characters from Marvel Netflix steal the spotlight across the five amazing episodes of television penned by Resnik and Kristensen. Virtue Of The Vicious is a masterpiece unlike any other episode of Marvel TV. An attack on a senator and Karen Page (seemingly) by The Punisher and a domestic terrorist is explored by Detective Mahoney through the conflicting perspectives of those involved. This episode examines veterans and law enforcement officers, exploring the idea that good apples, bad apples and everything between exist across all professions. Giving someone a badge and a gun doesn't change that. As the cherry on top, there's a stairway combat sequence with Frank Castle that is almost unmatched in the MCU. Trouble The Water takes place in early season two, killing two birds with one stone. This episode establishes John Pilgrim and those he works for as a credible threat, while simultaneously reminding viewers of just how lethally badass The Punisher really is. This episode shows Frank Castle as an agent of death herself, and it doesn't get much better than that. The strongest elements of Flustercluck are the scenes shared between Frank Castle and his young ward Amy. A bounty is placed on their heads, drawing New York's lowliest out of the woodwork. Luckily for Amy, her guardian angel may as well be the devil himself, and he tears through dozens of men to protect her. This episode proves that saddling Frank Castle with a psuedo-sidekick was one of the smartest things Marvel Netflix ever did. Dara Resnik wrote Daredevil, season three, episode eight, “Upstairs/Downstairs” and cowrote episode eleven, “Reunion” alongside Jim Dunn. Dara Resnik and Ken Kristensen provided Marvel TV fans with some of Netflix's finest offerings in years past. As such, Echo is so much more promising with their talents attached. Hopefully their creative present shines in Echo, and if we're lucky, maybe they can write for some of the characters they worked with on Daredevil & The Punisher yet again. In this episode of the AR/VR Magazine Podcast, I review the new Marvel Studios' Eternals: AR Story Experience. Today, as a promotion for Marvel's upcoming November 5th movie release, “Eternals,” Marvel Studios launched its first augmented reality story experience – Eternals: AR Story Experience App for iOS. Yesterday, I had a chat with the team at Marvel Studios, who were kind enough to give me an advanced sneak peek at the app which offers a guided augmented reality / mixed reality tour allowing users to explore the film's characters and storyline. The app, which took 2 years of development, was built using Apple's ARKit and features some pretty impressive volumetric video capture of actress Lia McHugh's character Sprite, which makes her appear in your viewing space. If you are a Marvel fan, you will definitely want to check this one out! Shang-Chi earned a total of $34.7 million domestically according to Box Office Mojo in its second box office weekend falling only 54% from it's premiere weekend. Shang-Chi has now earned $144.5M domestically and $259M worldwide. In comparison Black Widow fell 68% in its second box office weekend but benefited from a healthy $60M from Disney+ premiere sales in its premiere weekend. Other Disney second-weekend drops have been varied, with “Jungle Cruise” shedding 55%, “Cruella” 49% and “Free Guy” 35%. Universal's “F9,” another pandemic box office success, opened to $70 million in June and dropped 57% to $30.1 million in its second frame. Pre-pandemic Marvel releases have traditionally held well in their second weekends: “Avengers: Endgame” declined by 59%, “Captain Marvel” by 56%, “Thor: Ragnarok” by 54%, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" by 56%, “Doctor Strange” by 50% and “Ant-Man” by 57%. “Black Panther” enjoyed the most slight second-weekend drop in 2018, with just 45% after opening to a massive $202 million over Presidents Day weekend. The strength of Shang-Chi's Labor Day weekend opening seems to have inspired Disney to commit to debuting its remaining theatrical releases exclusively in theaters for the rest of the year, including Marvel Studios' Eternals. Disney announced that the rest of its domestic release slate for the year will honor a theatrical window ranging from a minimum of 30-45 days per film although the 30 day window only applies to Encanto according to the exclusive reported by Variety. The term “minimum” seems to point to the fact that Disney could extend that 30-45 day window should they prove to be hits and there is an audience to attend in person. Marvel Announces Four Unknown Films Scheduled for 2024 https://collider.com/new-marvel-movies-coming-in-2024/ Walt Disney Studios has updated its upcoming release schedule, which now includes four untitled Marvel films dated for 2024. These include newly announced films scheduled for February 16th, May 3rd, July 26th, and November 8th. Marvel has previously announced all of its movies on the way through Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, scheduled for May 5, 2023. After Guardians, there are still three other untitled Marvel films planned for the year, however, the addition of four more unknown Marvel films in 2024 and their release dates is entirely new. Possible films to fill those slots that are currently in development and without a known release schedule include Fantastic Four Deadpool 3 Blade Avengers-Level Team up to end the phase (not confirmed in development) Could be linked to Russo Brothers story from last week Captain America Sequel Possible X-Men MCU – Non-Marvel Studios Sony Won't Send Any Major Blockbusters Directly to Streaming Platforms https://www.cbr.com/sony-no-major-films-to-streaming/ Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra is insisting Spider-Man: Far From Home, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and other blockbusters will retain their theater exclusivity window and not go straight-to-streaming. "There is a higher bar theatrically to get films into theaters so you will probably not see as many films going directly to theaters," Vinciquerra said during a media conference. He conceded that some of Sony's smaller films might not be viable for theatrical release in the current climate but promised, "We have about 12 to 15 major films a year distributed to theaters and will do the same going forward." Vinciquerra pointed out the rise in piracy rates since other studios decided to implement day-and-date streaming releases, labeling it "a big concern" moving forward. The executive noted that Sony is in a unique position as it does not have a streaming service of its own, instead acting as an "arms dealer" in the ongoing streaming wars, able to put its content up for auction. He was quick to clarify, "But you won't see our major films go that way." Sony recently changed the name of its Spider-Man franchise from the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters to Sony's Spider-Man Universe, suggesting it has larger plans for the web-slinger moving forward. With rumors hinting at a live-action Spider-Verse crossover, the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home could potentially bridge the gap between Sony's animated and live-action Spider-Man franchises by incorporating Miles Morales. Writer Regrets One Thing About Doctor Strange Episode https://screenrant.com/what-if-doctor-strange-episode-4-writer-regret/ "When you're writing animation, you're writing so far into the future that you can't think four years down the line. That Doctor Strange episode, I wrote in February of 2019. I think I should've called it a Nexus Point instead of an Absolute Point. The Loki scripts weren't even written yet, so that animatic locked before Loki even finished their scripts because you're always writing about two years ahead of animation. It's kind of intense and insane." Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D./Agent Carter Hayley Atwell to Voice Lara Croft in Netflix's ‘Tomb Raider' Anime Series https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/hayley-atwell-anime-tomb-raider-lara-croft-casting-netflix-1235062859/ Hayley Atwell has been cast in Netflix and Legendary Television's upcoming “Tomb Raider” anime series. Atwell will voice the franchise hero, Lara Croft, in the new series based on Square Enix's iconic game. This upcoming series marks the character's anime debut. The story will pick up after the events of the “Tomb Raider” video-game reboot trilogy, charting a new adventure (in new territory) for the globetrotting Lara Croft 25 years after her first game launched. Atwell is best known for portraying Peggy Carter across the Marvel universe, in such films as “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Ant-Man” And “Avengers: Endgame,” as well as in her own TV series “Marvel's Agent Carter.” Her other live-action credits include “Conviction,” “Criminal U.K.” and “Howards End” for TV and “Brideshead Revisited,” “The Duchess,” “Christopher Robin” and “Blinded by the Light” in film. Up next she can be seen in the highly-anticipated “Mission: Impossible 7” opposite Tom Cruise. Netflix Defenders Rosario Dawson Books A Room In Disney's ‘Haunted Mansion' Movie https://deadline.com/2021/09/rosario-dawson-haunted-mansion-movie-casting-1234828943/ Rosario Dawson has been set to join LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish in Haunted Mansion, Disney's latest live-action film based on one of its theme park attractions. Justin Simien is directing a script from Katie Dippold, and the pic, which also recently added Owen Wilson to the cast, is now gearing up to begin shooting next month.
