Horror history gets weird, reflective, and dangerously snackable this week as This Week in Horror History travels through June 8–14 with mischievous monsters, haunted hotels, supernatural comedy, demonic hauntings, creepy mirrors, and one killer dessert that may be eating America alive. This episode digs into a packed week of classic horror movies, cult horror sequels, supernatural blockbusters, 1980s horror, haunted-house horror, and strange consumer-satire body horror, including the release of Gremlins, the same-day arrival of Ghostbusters, the wider theatrical expansion of The Shining, the hit sequel The Conjuring 2, and the mirror-filled nightmare of Poltergeist III.Inside this episode:• Gremlins turns one cute little mogwai into small-town monster chaos and helps push Hollywood toward the PG-13 rating.• Ghostbusters brings haunted libraries, demonic possession, rooftop apocalypse, and paranormal exterminators into one of the biggest supernatural comedy franchises ever.• The Shining expands wider in U.S. theaters, pulling more audiences into Stanley Kubrick's cold, hypnotic nightmare inside the Overlook Hotel.• The Conjuring 2 sends Ed and Lorraine Warren to the Enfield haunting and introduces one of modern horror's most memorable demonic figures.• The Deep-Cut Spotlight goes to Poltergeist III, the strange 1988 sequel that traps Carol Anne inside a haunted Chicago high-rise full of mirrors, elevators, cold hallways, and unfinished supernatural business.Plus: a horror birthday roll featuring Johnny Depp, Natalie Portman, Jurgen Prochnow, and Adrienne Barbeau, a creepy look at how horror sneaks into family homes, hotels, corporate towers, grocery aisles, and blockbuster comedy, and a weekly recommendation for Larry Cohen's weird, gross, and sharply satirical cult classic The Stuff. From mogwai mayhem and ghost exterminators to haunted reflections, demonic forces, the Overlook Hotel, and a mysterious dessert that might be consuming its customers from the inside out, this week proves horror can invade almost anything: your home, your hotel room, your movie theater, your refrigerator, and your appetite.
As beauty trends have evolved, it's become more and more necessary to use a mirror when getting ready for the day. But for teens at Kearns High School in the Granite School District, they may need to make some changes to their daily grooming routines now that the school has removed mirrors from all the restrooms on campus. The school says removing the mirrors will help cut down on loitering. The hosts share their thoughts on the development and read listener text messages on the topic too.
Ask The Angel With Rachel Corpus with Rachel Corpus Quantum Leaping, Spiritual Sovereignty, and Remembering the Power of Source Rachel Corpus Opens Ask the Angel In this episode of Ask the Angel, host Rachel Corpus welcomes listeners into a conversation about quantum leaping, spiritual connection, and the idea that human beings can shift their experience by remembering their connection to Source. Rachel explains that while she comes from a religious background and is a pastor, she now uses the word Source to describe a larger, loving divine reality beyond the limits of man-made religious structures. She frames the episode around the belief that people arrive on Earth with spiritual amnesia, and that part of life's purpose is remembering one's divinity, autonomy, and connection to something greater. Oracle Cards, Pleasure, and Choosing a Higher Frequency Before teaching about quantum leaping, Rachel pulls oracle cards and shares angelic messages connected to joy, pleasure, trust, and thriving. One card carries the message, “My life is deliciously joyous,” which Rachel interprets as an invitation to accept life as a student of Earth without becoming passive or bypassing pain. She explains that joy, peace, love, and other frequencies are always available, but people often experience only the frequencies they focus on. Using Mother's Day as an example, she describes how expectations once made the day stressful, but later she learned to release control and access a more peaceful frequency. The Stag, Trust, and Thriving Beyond Survival Rachel also pulls the stag card, which carries the message “trust and thrive.” She explains that the stag represents strength, sovereignty, and the choice to stand firmly in one's own ownership rather than becoming absorbed by surrounding survival energy. Rachel says Earth contains lower frequencies not because it is bad, but because it is a classroom where souls come to expand. The message is that people may feel surrounded by survival-based fears about money, safety, timing, or uncertainty, but they do not have to make those fears part of their own story. Lotus Calls In About a New Timeline Rachel's first caller, Lotus, asks about quantum leaping into a timeline where she sees herself and her family living in a beautiful home in the mountains, surrounded by trees. Lotus explains that she feels she is revisiting a heart's wish from her younger years, when she imagined one day having a family and living in New England. Rachel describes Lotus as someone stepping out of the “mapped grid” and recreating a new way to live. She sees trees that already know Lotus and says the move feels spirit-led, sustainable, and connected to a chosen community. Rachel also tells Lotus that challenges are part of the process, and Lotus agrees that the unfolding would not be as meaningful or fun if everything happened instantly and without obstacles. Quantum Leaping as Science, Magic, and Spiritual Practice Rachel then explains quantum leaping by blending simple scientific imagery with spiritual interpretation. She describes electrons as tiny particles that can move between energy states without traveling through every point in between, comparing them to frogs jumping between lily pads. She then applies that metaphor to human beings, saying the challenge is that people are made of countless particles and must bring those inner particles into alignment before leaping. Rachel presents quantum leaping as a blend of science, energy, mysticism, universal law, and spiritual intention, arguing that what older science might call impossible becomes possible when consciousness, vibration, and divine connection are included. Water, Sound, and Establishing a Vibrational Baseline One of Rachel's main practices involves using water as a tool for remembering connection. She says the water in the body is linked with all water everywhere and holds memory of the universe. By blessing water and asking it to remind every particle in the body to resonate with a chosen frequency, such as peace, a person can begin preparing the inner field for a leap. Rachel also recommends using sound, singing, humming, light language, or musical instruments to call the body's particles into alignment. The purpose is not to force a future into existence, but to remember one's own divine baseline before attempting to move into a new reality. The 917604 Code and Quantum Leap Practices Rachel introduces the Grabovoi code 917604 as a number she associates with travel, completion, creation, divine alignment, heart-centered prosperity, grounded wealth, and potential. She teaches several methods for working with the code, including holding the hands open, naming a destination or desired timeline, repeating the number aloud, journaling with the statement “I quantum leap into my new reality where I am…”, and using the code as a “key, frequency, and password.” She also describes a breathing practice in which listeners inhale with 917 and exhale with 604 while looking out a window, allowing the body to focus without overthinking. Mirrors, Past Timelines, and Future Timelines Rachel also discusses mirror work, suggesting that a person can use a familiar mirror as a kind of portal by speaking a leap aloud and naming the timeline they are entering. She says people can also quantum leap backward into childhood, a past relationship, or even a past life for the purpose of healing, though she does not recommend trying to live in a past timeline. Instead, going backward should be used to retrieve wisdom, release blocked energy, and heal old patterns. Moving forward, by contrast, can be used to enter a new timeline while trusting that the learning will continue wherever the person arrives. Closing Thoughts on Timelines, Media, and Spiritual Freedom Rachel closes by saying that quantum leaping is something spirit has always known how to do, and that reclaiming it is part of reclaiming worthiness and sovereignty. She says next week's episode will continue the discussion by focusing on timelines and how they can be merged. Before signing off, she recommends the movie Backrooms, describing it as scary but relevant to the themes of reality, struggle, and how people create spaces through consciousness. She ends by inviting listeners to find her at RachelCorpus.com, on social media, and on YouTube, closing with her familiar encouragement to keep their halos straight.

Words by Ali WilliamsBen Kweller is excited to be heading back to Australia in July with his Cover The Mirrors tour. It has been a while between visits. Kweller says he has not toured Australia since before the pandemic, making this run something of a proper return after the world decided to collectively lose the plot for a few years. “I'm so excited,” he says. “I love Australia. I haven't been there since the pandemic, so this is my big return since the world shut down.” That excitement is not the polished, copy-and-paste version artists sometimes pull out when talking about every country on an itinerary. Kweller speaks about Australia with real affection. His fans are keen, he is keen, and the timing feels right. Cover The Mirrors has now had time to live out in the world, and Australia gets to be part of the international stretch of the album cycle. Released in 2025, Cover The Mirrors is the latest chapter in a career that started ridiculously early. Kweller began writing songs when he was eight and formed his first band around the age of 12 or 13. By his teens, he was fronting Radish, the Texas band that first put him on the map and gave him one of those music memories that still lights him up. He remembers being 14 when a Radish song, Dear Antarctica, was played on Q102 FM in Dallas by the gloriously named DJ Redbeard. Kweller and his bandmates piled into a car, because only one of them was old enough to drive, and circled the block until the song came on. It is the kind of story that sounds small until you remember how massive it would have felt at the time. Three young musicians, one working car, a local radio station, and proof that something they made had escaped into the world. That is the sort of thing that keeps people writing songs long after common sense has suggested a more stable hobby.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

“Seems the only one who doesn't see your beauty is the face in the mirror looking back at you.”This week, we're doing a Show and Tell on one of literature's most enduring symbols: the mirror. From Narcissus to Dorian Gray, Snow White's magic mirror to Alice Through the Looking Glass, mirrors have long served as devices of identity, vanity, the supernatural, and the soul, and Taylor Swift is no stranger to the motif. We trace mirrors across three songs: Tied Together with a Smile (Taylor Swift, 2006), Begin Again (Red, 2012), and Anti-Hero (Midnights, 2022). Along the way, we explore distorted self-perception and the inner child, the mirror as a post-breakup identity reset, why Taylor would rather stare directly at the sun than face her own reflection, and what social media has to do with all of it. Plus: Dorian Gray, Narcissus, vampires without souls, the Bloody Mary game, and an accidental Justin Timberlake shout-out. Hannah Kakar Anderson, Abby Konoposky, and Neera Jain to discuss a paper that confronts some of the most painful and persistent realities in medical education: The Call Is Coming from Inside the House. Together, they explore how racism and ableism intersect in the experiences of racially minoritized medical learners with disabilities—and why traditional conversations about diversity and inclusion often fail to capture these realities. Using disability critical race theory (DisCrit), narrative inquiry, and counter-storytelling, the authors illuminate what participants described as a haunted "house of medicine"—a space marked by exclusion, surveillance, distorted reflections of self, and support systems that too often become sources of harm rather than protection. Through powerful metaphors drawn from horror—No Trespassing, Hall of Mirrors, and The Call Coming from Inside the House—the conversation examines how institutional structures and well-intentioned actors alike can perpetuate systems that marginalize learners. But this episode is not simply about oppression. It is equally a conversation about resistance, agency, and survival. Grounded in Caitlin Seida's poem Hope Is Not a Bird, Emily, It's a Sewer Rat, the authors reflect on the fierce and complicated hope carried by learners who persist despite environments that were never designed with them in mind. Their stories are not one-dimensional accounts of struggle—they are acts of testimony, community building, and imagination for a different future. The discussion reviews: How racism and ableism operate as intertwined forces within medical education. Why horror became a powerful analytic metaphor for understanding participants' experiences. What it means to be simultaneously hyper-visible and invisible in training environments. How institutional actors may unintentionally reproduce harmful systems—and what it means to recognize "the call" within ourselves. Why the authors resisted easy solutions and instead invite educators to sit with discomfort before rushing to reform. How participants' stories function as "apocalyptic logs" and acts of "leaving evidence" for future learners and institutions. Dr. Anderson brings a clinician-educator's perspective and deep commitment to educational equity, reflecting on disability as both a personal and professional identity. Abby Konoposky offers a linguist's and educational psychologist's lens, unpacking agency, metaphor, and the power of story to challenge dominant narratives. Dr. Jain contributes expertise in ableism, disability studies, and anti-ableist practice, connecting participants' experiences to broader histories of disability rights and racial justice. Together, they invite listeners not only to understand these stories—but to reckon with what they reveal about medicine itself. This episode asks us to imagine what medicine might become if we listened more closely to the people who have long been navigating its haunted spaces—and if we allowed their stories to reshape the house itself. "Any book a child loves is a good book," but when a teacher says she has to "sneak in" Number the Stars, something is broken. Dr. Diane welcomes Dr. Karen Huff, chair of the Shenandoah University Children's Literature Conference, to celebrate 40 years of fighting for books that matter. We discuss the importance of honoring diverse voices and creating communities of readers -- spaces where teachers, librarians, and authors come together to champion books that build empathy, connection, wonder, and joy.Summary:The Shenandoah University Children's Literature Conferencecelebrates its 40th anniversary in June and Dr. Karen Huffhas been there from the start. From its roots with Nancy Larrick, Laura Robb, and 85 teachers, the annual conference has grown into a beloved community event, featuring award-winning authors like Katherine Applegate, Jacqueline Woodson, Jerry Pinkney, Walter Dean Myers, and John Scieszka. They discuss Nancy Larrick's groundbreaking 1965 article The All-White World of Children's Books, Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop's vision of books as Windows, Mirrors, and Sliding Glass Doors, and why teachers feeling they must "sneak in" read alouds like Number the Stars reveals a broken system. Dr. Huff reflects on the power of author visits, why children's lit deserves respect, how quality children's literature builds vocabulary and background knowledge, and unforgettable conference moments—from Jerry Pinkney's humility to 500 families showing up for Lucky Diaz. This episode draws on experimental and review literature on mirror-gazing, strange-face illusions, anomalous self-experience, dissociation, agency, face pareidolia, and face-distortion disorders, especially the work of Giovanni B. Was that the most surprising unsurprising trade ever? The brothers react to the Patrick Bailey trade, the Ryan Walker demotion, and oh yeah, the Pirates series. Did they actually win that series? More importantly who will the Giants trade next after Patrick Bailey? Most importantly, are they already sellers? On the cocktail side of things, today Matthew is drinking Smoke & Mirrors while Ben is drinking Tequila, I Hardly Know Her. In The Witness Files – Case 02: Behind the Black Windows, a family shares a deeply disturbing true paranormal story from their time living in Tunis, Tunisia, involving shadow figures, oppressive atmospheres, and terrifying unexplained encounters inside a rented house. From the very first viewing, something felt wrong. The windows appeared unnaturally black, like a void, and an overwhelming sense of dread followed them inside. After moving in, the activity escalated. Mirrors felt dangerous to hang, certain rooms felt suffocating, and sleep became impossible as the witness repeatedly felt something close to her face in the darkness. One day, while alone in the kitchen, she became aware of a powerful presence behind her. Turning around, she saw a large black shadow figure standing inside the house. She fled in terror, only to return to find the hallway freezing cold in the middle of a Tunisian summer. The haunting intensified with dark figures moving inside the house, pulsing lights, overwhelming fear, and multiple witnesses experiencing the same phenomena. Guests reported seeing shapes moving in the lounge, while a child ran from his bedroom claiming something was crawling over him. The activity left the family emotionally drained and suffering severe anxiety before eventually performing a cleansing and leaving the property. This episode features a true paranormal encounter, real haunted house story, shadow figures, mysterious phenomena, possible Jinn activity, and chilling first-hand witness testimony. A terrifying real horror story involving multiple witnesses, unexplained activity, and a house that seemed filled with something dark and oppressive.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/haunted-uk-podcast-history-hauntings-and-the-unexplained--6759967/support.
How much choice do we have over toxic behaviour? What makes us more authentic, or inauthentic? Do some people just not have an internal mirror to see their own behaviour? In this episode, Luke and I explore transactional mindsets, when we take situations where people could be more collaborative, and instead engage in "us vs. them" dynamics... and explore why that is.This leads us into the Inclusive and Extractive Mindsets - fancy talk for 'Givers and Takers.' We sluiten af met een volledig spoilerloze review van Ready or Not en Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. Is het vervolg de moeite waard en weet het dezelfde spanning en zwarte humor vast te houden? Je hoort het hier.

In this heartfelt episode, Jed welcomes author Julie Leung and illustrator Angie Kang to celebrate their new picture book "Navigating Night," a moving father–daughter story that beautifully coincides with AAPI Month. Julie shares that Navigating Night grew out of her memories of riding along on Chinese food deliveries with her dad in rural Georgia in the 1990s. The book is part memoir, part homage to her father and to the often-invisible workers in the food service industry who "make sure the food shows up at your doorstep on time". It also explores the loneliness and dislocation of being a child of immigrants, driving through other families' "normal" evenings while her own family worked late and ate at odd hours. Julie explains how the story was originally a multigenerational epic including her grandfather's escape during the Cultural Revolution, but her agent helped her refine it to the emotional core focused on her and her dad. Angie describes her powerful emotional reaction to Julie's manuscript and the parallels with her own relationship with her father and her family's Cultural Revolution history. She breaks down her art process, including using gouache and table salt on wet paint to create rain textures that mirror the story's emotional storms, clearing as father and daughter reconnect and the moon comes out. Both Julie and Angie reflect on being only children, the quiet intimacy of car rides, and their hopes that the book serves as both a mirror and window into immigrant family life. In the final segment, Jed travels (virtually) to Australia to chat briefly with Amelia Tonta about "Neil, the Amazing Sea Cucumber," inspired by her love of snorkeling and the overlooked, "boring" creatures on the ocean floor. Amelia discusses giving a seemingly dull character surprising heart and humor, and hints at more playful, visually driven stories to come.

The Outer Realm welcomes the return of Eira Wulfnothsson Date: April 30th, 2026 EP: 713 TOPIC: Eira is a wealth of knowledge, and tonight we will be having a discussion about Mirrors. Ancient civilizations around the world, for centuries at the very least, have always have held a belief that mirrors could Trap the Soul, Create Portals and Gateway to other realms, to which Demons or other Ethereal Beings could travel through. Even the Victorians would cover their mirrors when a loved one passed, in order to not confuse the Soul. Tonight we discuss this and much more ! Contact for the show - theouterrealmcontact@gmail.com Michelle Desrochers and The Outer Realm :https://linktr.ee/michelledesrochers_ Please support us by Liking, Subscribing, Sharing and Commenting. Thank you all !!! About Eira: Eira was a practicing occultist for over four decades. Born into a Luciferian world, no one in her family was Christian for generations; she was taken to Bohemian Grove at age 3. Her education was just as unusual; she attended a traditional mystery school 30 years before the internet existed; she attended in person. There she learned of the laws and forces at work in the cosmos both Holy and Unholy. Five years ago, she had an extraordinary experience with Mary, Our Blessed Mother. She was called to become a traditional Roman Catholic and is now a consecrated Marian who has taken a life long vow of celibacy. She regularly prays “The Office of The Dead” for the Holy Souls in purgatory. Today Eira works on the team of a Mandated Roman Catholic Exorcist and consults on classical angelology/demonology based on her unique upbringing, studies and experiences. In service to Christ she currently hosts a youtube channel where she speaks of her unusual journey, spiritual warfare, and her understanding of God's cosmos. Eira's youtube channel is: Pitbulls of The Lord Spiritual Warfare Channel. Eira is also the author of two books: “From Occultist to Christian; The Devil's Mistake” And, “Dominicanus; You, Your Dog and Heaven.” Eira's YouTube channel is: Pitbulls of The Lord Spiritual Warfare Channel. Eira is also the author of two books: “From Occultist to Christian; The Devil's Mistake” • The Devil's Mistake is a dissertation on Evil and Magicka; their ancient origins, how they are at work in the world and how to inoculate yourself against them. The work is written through the eyes of a life-long practicing occultist who became a devoted Roman Catholic after a mystical experience with Mary, Mother of God. Within the manuscript the author illuminates a vast array of metaphysical topics based on her classical occult education in order to assist Christians in identifying the many occult rituals worked against them via the media, political and public ceremonies, as well as staged catastrophic events. These “rituals,” or operations within a system of Magicka, are performed in order to blind, influence and control humanity; clarity is given to the elite Luciferian mind and agenda. Also, readers will learn the crucial reason their consent is always required when evil is worked against them, what that looks like, and the “who” that requires it and “why.” The author also addresses the ever-changing UFO/UAP narrative demonstrating that this phenomenon identifies more as classical fallen angel activity than advanced terrestrial or alleged extraterrestrial technology. Readers will also be given understanding regarding “places of power” used since the beginning of time by ancient magicians and sorcerers to bring “these gods” (fallen angels) into our world physically and why 100 percent of our world-wide sacred sites are built upon them based on both the physical and metaphysical sciences. EP 678: Darin Hardy Level Seven High Terrain “You can’t half-ass walking on uneven ground—and that lesson translates to everything: relationships, fatherhood, business, life.” What’s up everyone! This week I’m sitting down with Darin Hardy, and man, this conversation goes places I didn’t expect. Darin is a former Marine Corps special operations guy who spent 20 years and 13 deployments in the military, and now he’s using horses, nature, and even AI to help executives and leaders transform their lives. Yeah, you heard that right—AI and horses. Stay with me here. This episode sits right at the intersection of ancient wisdom and cutting-edge technology. Darin breaks down how he’s using emotionally intelligent AI to help distill his thoughts and experiences in the field, then using horses as living mirrors to reflect back what people need to see about themselves. It’s wild, it’s different, and it’s honestly one of the most unique approaches to coaching I’ve ever heard. We dive deep into what Darin calls “window moments”—those rare experiences in nature where you feel like you’re between worlds. He shares two incredibly powerful stories: one about syncing with a horse at 16 years old and losing all sense of where he ended and the horse began, and another about a forked-horn mule deer that walked within arm’s reach and taught him he had permission to forge his own path. These aren’t just cool hunting stories—they’re formative moments that shaped how he shows up in the world. But this isn’t all woo-woo spiritual stuff. Darin gets tactical too. He talks about hitting the wall on day five of an elk hunt, using “I am” statements to shift from doing to being, and how those three words helped him arrow a bull when he was ready to quit. We also get into the difference between power over versus partner with, why he cried in a pasture when three horses wouldn’t let him catch them, and what that taught him about 20 years of narratives he’d been carrying. One of my favorite parts of this conversation is when Darin talks about being “porous”—how life doesn’t just happen to you or for you, but through you. And how as outdoorsmen, we’re naturally land-informed and nature-informed, which gives us this unique lens to filter everything else in life. It’s the same reason I believe elk hunting teaches you more about business and life than most MBA programs ever could. If you’re someone who’s looking for transformation, willing to get uncomfortable, and open to the idea that horses and mountains might teach you more about yourself than any boardroom ever will, this episode is for you. Darin’s work is for people who refuse to live small lives—people who want authentic experiences, not hand-fed success. https://www.level7highperformance.com/retreats?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss Sponsors Tricer – I run Tricer gear for a reason. Timestamps 00:00 – Intro: Ancient tech meets AI 05:15 – Darin’s military background: 20 years, 13 deployments 11:30 – From infantry to special operations 16:45 – Transitioning out and the two things he promised himself 22:20 – How passion becomes your job (whether you want it to or not) 28:40 – Being “porous” – life flowing through you, not just to you 34:15 – The horse window moment at 16: losing boundaries 40:30 – The mule deer at arm’s reach: permission to forge your own path 46:50 – Hong Kong beach: glowing plankton and Disney magic 52:10 – Flow state in the red zone: from doing to being 58:35 – Using AI to distill “I am” statements 1:03:20 – Day five of the Idaho hunt: hitting the wall 1:08:45 – Three horses that wouldn’t let him catch them 1:12:30 – Power over vs. partner with 1:16:00 – Level Seven High Terrain and authentic experiences 1:20:15 – Cow elk hunts as transformation: range day to butchering Three Key Takeaways Shift From Doing to Being – Darin uses AI-assisted coaching to help people create “I am” statements instead of “I do” goals. When he was exhausted on day five of an elk hunt, ready to quit, he repeated “I’m resilient, I’m flexible” as he climbed—pointing himself back to a state of being rather than performance. Ten minutes later, he arrowed a bull at 20 yards. The power isn’t in what you do, it’s in who you are. Those qualities remain true regardless of whether you punch your tag or eat it. Horses and Nature as Mirrors – Horses don’t lie. When Darin returned to Montana after 20 years in the military with this narrative of “this is my pot of gold,” three well-trained horses wouldn’t let him within 50 feet. He broke down crying in knee-high grass because they were reflecting back his energy—he’d come with an agenda, never asking what the horses’ agenda was. The next day, he left the halter at the gate, walked into the pasture with just a brush, and said “I’m here with fresh, if anyone wants something, come get it.” Within 10 minutes, all three horses were standing around him. Power over vs. partner with—that’s the lesson. Give Yourself Permission to Feel Something Different – Transformation isn’t about knowing what to do differently. It’s about giving yourself permission to feel something different. When you’re willing to accept the pain of change more than the pain of staying the same, you’re ready. Darin’s “window moments” in nature—with horses, with deer, with glowing plankton on a Hong Kong beach—gave him permission to see himself differently. You can’t half-ass walking on uneven ground, and that lesson translates to everything: relationships, fatherhood, business, life.

Misha Glenny and guests discuss the woman who, as a child bride, became mother to the boy who would eventually become the first king in the Tudor dynasty. Lady Margaret Beaufort (c1443-1509) was twelve when she married Edmund Tudor, half his age, and gave birth to their son Henry when she was thirteen and Edmund was already dead from the plague. Margaret Beaufort made it her life's work to protect Henry during the Wars of the Roses, which had begun soon before his birth and, as many more obvious successors to the crown died or were killed in the wars, she pivoted to supporting Henry when he became the strongest contender against Richard III. She was to survive Richard III declaring her a traitor and went on to see Henry become Henry VII, the first Tudor king, and herself become the King's Mother. Outliving her son by a few months, she was then to help her grandson Henry VIII succeed and the Tudor dynasty continue.WithJoanna Laynesmith Visiting Research Fellow at the University of ReadingKatherine Lewis Honorary Professor of Medieval History at the University of Lincoln and Research Associate at the University of YorkAndDavid Grummitt Staff Tutor in History at the Open UniversityProducer: Simon TillotsonReading list:Nathen Amin, The House of Beaufort (Amberley Publishing, 2017)Rachel Delman, 'The Vowesses, the anchoresses, and the aldermen's wives: Lady Margaret Beaufort and the Devout Society of Late Medieval Stamford' (Urban History 49, 2022) David Grummitt, A Short History of the Wars of the Roses (revised edition, Bloomsbury Academic, 2025)Michael Hicks, The Wars of the Roses (Yale University Press, 2010)Lauren Johnson, Margaret Beaufort: Survivor, Rebel, Kingmaker (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2025)Michael K.
