Join us on the angels and awakening podcast each week [00:01:26] As we explore our big spiritual questions. Interview experts and bring through Angel messages. I am so excited you're here [00:01:39] Hello friends welcome back. I'm so excited about our guests today. Today I'm interviewing my friend colleague and teacher Nancy Reagan. Nancy has been a licensed massage therapist for 20 years. She also specializes in energy based somatic therapies. She is an explorer and a traveler. She's a free spirited individual who encourages people to find their flow and life by allowing their present life to unfold. Nancy works out of Chicago. Glen Allen in Naperville Illinois and she kindly allows me to rent her Naperville office for sessions on the weekends and summer when my husband and daughter are home from school and that has been the hugest blessing for me Nancy because then I don't have to kick my family out of their house. Friends I have worked with hundreds and hundreds of people and I can honestly say that no one has energy like Nancy's. She is one of the most beautiful souls inside and out that I have ever met. Nancy and I met over a year ago in fall 2017 and we work with one another twice a month. I will go to see Nancy once a month for sessions. And Nancy comes to see me once a month for sessions and what I love about Nancy's work is that when she works on me our sessions always include a few different components. [00:02:55] First we talk a little bit about my life and how things have changed since the last time I saw her and then Nancy will give me some feedback and advice. And then next I lay fully clothed on her massage table and Nancy uses a combination of massage and energy work to clear the energy from my body and I should say for those of you who don't understand what energy work is. It's when someone connects with God energy which is the highest vibration that is and brings through that energy to the person that they're working on for that person's highest good and highest health. Now you may be thinking, well why do two people who work with energy as a profession need energy healing treatments for themselves. Well think of it like this. Think of it like a massage therapist who likes getting massages too. You could massage yourself. And I definitely work to clear my own energy out daily but it also feels so relaxing and so rejuvenating to receive energy healing treatments as well. So when Nancy is working on me I can feel this high vibration flowing through her every time. Now when I say this I mean I feel this vibration so intensely it feels so real. [00:04:08] It feels like I can reach out grab it and pick it up. That's how much I feel this high vibration flowing out of Nancy and after the massage and the energy work is complete. Nancy always brings through intuitive information that she receives while working on me. And Nancy always keeps it very positive. But she tells me you're focusing too much on this. You really need to be focusing on that. And she's always totally right. For example when I first met Nancy I was really focused on reiki Reiki reiki and Nancy. I'll never forget it. You said Julie I work with some big time people people who are mediums on TV and everything you tell me is spot on. You are as good as them. And you said you're prophetic and at the time I had to ask you a prophetic means because I didn't even know. But you told me that people want to connect with their angels more than anything. And it was really you who encouraged me to share my gift of connecting with angels most with my clients. That was probably some of the most validating human feedback that I received. And I just wanted to thank you for that so much because that right there just shifted everything so much for me. [00:05:17] Julie you're too kind. Thank you so much. It's always interesting to hear how my work affects people. [00:05:28] And it's even more interesting whenever someone says to me Oh well you said and I always am like cause I'm like oh what did I say. But because the fact of the matter is I never I never [00:05:45] With a lot of stuff totally remember exactly what I've said to someone because truly it's coming from Spirit and not from my own ego space. So if it's accurate that's why because it's not from my you know human judgmental ego space. [00:06:08] So that's kind of key. [00:06:11] But yes exactly. [00:06:13] I like to thank you for having me on and saying you know what a wonderful intro. [00:06:22] I'm very honored and very glad you came into my life. It's been really helpful and healing so. [00:06:30] Oh good. Isn't that amazing too. It was just kind of by coincidence we both on this Web site at the same time. [00:06:37] I forget what that website is tumblr which Tumblr I found on tumblr. [00:06:45] Yeah. And I was only on there for like a brief period of time and then we connected and the rest is history right. [00:06:53] Totally intuited it. So nice. [00:06:57] So Nancy why don't you tell the listeners more about you and the work that you do. [00:07:01] Wow. I am a licensed massage therapist for about over 15 years now and I do a little bit of massage. But that's totally like not my focus at all anymore. [00:07:18] That's work that's not deep enough for me so even though people think it's deep it's not. So I'm more interested in working with the energetic body more than the physical body starting out as a massage therapist. I found that I was picking up a lot of information about people and I also found that I was getting some strange physical manifestations that I'd never had before. So it was a long process but it kind of was a path to figuring out why this was happening. So I started doing studies in both energetic type of healing and intuitive studies. So studying with some. Really good psychics going up to infinity Foundation in Highland Park and taking a lot of their classes with Mel Dore who is an amazing teacher and intuitive in Chicagoland and just started working with that more and found that that's that whole path of feeling into people's energy and working with the energetic body was really more in alignment and felt more and flow with me with my work. So little by little I started studying a type of therapy called visionary cranial sacral. [00:08:49] What is that. [00:08:50] Yeah. That is some people have heard of cranial sacral work and there's kind of two different forms of it. The main probably the one people are more familiar with is a form of cranial psychotherapy by a pleasure which is a more clinical form of cranial sacral work. And they really focus a lot and it's more like the actual feeling into like the sutures of the head and like feeling into the movement and just they look at it more just from a clinical base it's no matter how you put it like cranial sacral is definitely kind of way out there type of work besides massage therapists there are plenty of chiropractors who have learned it and how. Who else. Dentists. And if a doctor's doing it he's probably a d o versus an M.D. so that is not the area I'm trained and I'm trained in the visionary so that's more about intuiting more what you're feeling and understanding the energetic piece which gives a ton of information about the person what they're experiencing what their flow is and what not. [00:10:19] So that's what it is. I mean there's books written on cranial sacral it's actually very complex. So yes I'm trained in cranial psychotherapy and sometimes that's a lot of it. It's an easier way for me to explain to people what I do. But I would say I take a big piece of it. My work from cranial sacral therapy because I do focus on both the sacrum and the the cranium the head. [00:10:49] But I would say my work is kind of evolved into my own thing because what I do is I study with a lot of different teachers and masters and then I kind of take what they teach me and some of it works for me. A lot of times a lot of it doesn't work for me which is OK. And I just kind of have developed my own type of work with people so. So yes I'm basically I am a licensed therapist massage therapist but I kind of resonate more with. Like it an energy healing practitioner. [00:11:34] Yeah. Perfect. Well and you know I know the difference but poor people listening out there. I always like to hear what you have to say. What what do you think are the differences the benefits that people receive when they're getting like a strict massage only verses when they walk away from an energy healing treatment or what would you call it. [00:11:57] What would I call it well Mossad is wonderful. No one. But that is very much focused on our muscular body which of course is important an energy healing work is more focused on the energetic body which is actually deeper work. [00:12:21] So the energy of your of your body your soul self whatever it is, is something that we are surrounded by and are deeply affected by. But a lot of people aren't very aware of their energetic body and this is how a lot of times we get. I like to say zapped by other people or places situations. It's kind of again like it is a tangible concept but for a lot of people it's not but energy is just in everything especially us. [00:13:10] And if we can learn to work with it and feel into it both ours and other people and situations even objects it'll go a long way to help us. So the whole point of energy healing session which I think this is a bigger piece of it than the massage piece is I want to help people learn to heal themselves. OK. It's like what you said in the beginning. It's hard you know you can massage yourself but it doesn't really feel as good. But with energy work if you consistently receive it you do learn to feel into your own energy and that of others and to work with it. [00:13:59] And ultimately it helps you to learn like what areas or what people or what situations you're more in flow with the whole idea is to help you be going you know downstream instead of upstream and removing blocks. That's another part of the work is to get a lot of times pain and dysfunction whether it's physical pain or emotional pain which I believe are connected when you have that you have something stuck energetically in your body. So another piece of the work is trying to help people move that out and release it basically releasing what doesn't serve you. [00:14:37] And that is the art of it all right. Because we don't go around as human beings saying oh I really feel like I've got this stuck in my throat shocker I really feel like I've got this stuck out in my Auric field but as you learn an energy healing modality and you come into it you know when I teach people Reiki the most fun part is the first day when I'm having people for the very first time feel into the different chakras feel into the crowd and feel into the third I feel and to the throat chakra and they look at me with this shocked stunned face because I've had people say they feel so different. [00:15:22] How did I never know that you could go into these different areas of the body and they feel so different but they do well yeah I mean one thing with our society in particular is we're very focused on everything outside of ourselves to make us feel better or fix us. And the whole point of energy work is to go inside and work with that energy which is really quite a bit more powerful than anything outside of ourselves because you have everything you need and you know what's best for yourself more than anybody else. And if you can tap into that to that inner wisdom and guidance it's a very powerful thing. [00:16:07] Yeah. You know that's why we're friends Nancy because everything you say I'm like yes yes yes yes. Out of all the teachers that I met I think I align most with your ideals your philosophy your way of working. It's the tribe well and like you said before because I really feel like this is how I've built my practice is I have worked with a lot of different spiritual teachers along the way. And you're right. So many of them you get to a point like now not so much just like then just doesn't work. But there are other parts that they taught me which I do like which I do incorporate but with you there's just so much that's just dead on with the way that I see it as well. [00:16:56] I'm glad. Well again that's probably an energetic process to be honest with you because if you listen to the energy this is a thing when you really learn how to work with your energy. You learn as you go through life that some people just you're not going to really flow with an you know it's not really it's never really a smart thing or it's going to be a waste of your time to try and get somebody to be something that they're not. Right. Right now they are who they are. So you'll start pulling in more people who are. More aligned with who you are if you're more in tune with energetically who you are. Yeah. Yeah but definitely the ones who aren't like you have a lot to teach you. [00:17:46] That's better. That's a fact. That's true. And nobody knows where everybody you know right. [00:17:51] That's true because a lot of the teachers who work for me I learned I I learned what I didn't want and the way that I didn't want to do things which was important info. [00:18:05] Yes. [00:18:06] So on this podcast and in my work I relate the vibration that I feel that I try to live most of my day and I call it high vibration because I watch Spirit shows me as everything is energy. Well energy vibrates vibrates at different levels or different frequencies. And when I tell people is God is the highest energy vibration that is and what you're doing is connecting with that energy. And when I live in it it feels like you're living in a different dimension. It feels like heaven on earth. How do you describe that vibration or what do you believe this high vibration is wow. [00:18:49] I agree I think the highest vibration is you know the divine god. I also think though it's love. [00:18:58] So love being the highest vibration and emotions like I think fear being one of the lower vibrations but it's really about feeling into when you're in those type of emotional states. How do you feel you know what's going on in your body right. Right. Both physically mentally and emotionally it's all tied together. [00:19:31] Right. So how do you live your life in that high vibration. How do you maintain it [00:19:42] For sure. [00:19:43] My best most important tool is a very solid meditation slash stillness practice. This is something that I do every day. This is how I start my day. Sometimes I will meditate. I don't know four or five times in a day. And it and you know it's I try to do it for at least 20 minutes in the morning. If I'm really rushed I can only do five. Fine. It's better than nothing. But what that stillness practice helps you to learn is that you're more than your thoughts and your thoughts are always the truth. So I'm a believer of a lot of suffering. [00:20:37] One may experience is because you are having beliefs in thoughts and information that aren't even true. So with a stone this practice the idea is to get past that ego mind and more again into your your soul self or your heart space where that is. That is the truth the body does not lie. Your energetic body does not lie. And it helps you learn that all of your chaos and drama and we all have it does not define you at all. [00:21:20] And it helps you to separate from that and not let it take you over so that's probably the main without a doubt the main tool that in prayer. You know I always say meditation is like listening to what God has to say to us. And prayer is asking [00:21:51] Yeah. I would say the meditation practice probably was a game changer for me. Yeah. [00:21:57] Completely. So I want to go a little bit deeper into this and some real life examples. And a lot of people who are listening right now like myself. We have young children and I challenge myself to hold that meditative high vibrational state as much as I can throughout my day. But one area where I lose that vibration easily is being a parent. And I just find that being a parent brings so much emotion out of me. I mean there's that aspect of joy and love but there's also that aspect of fear and stress and frustration and over the last six months my daughter's been going through this very whiny complaining phase we don't spank or we don't believe in that we. And we don't normally take things away because she's just always been a pretty well behaved kid but lately we've been giving her a choice you can either change your behavior or we're going to take away your iPad for an hour and that works but the out the behavior starts to come back like an hour later or the next day. In fact we were just at Great Wolf Lodge which is an indoor water park like slash hotel complained non-stop the entire first day. We we ended up getting to the point where we said you have one last chance. And if this behavior doesn't stop we're not going to stay a second night we're just going to go home. And the hardest thing was sticking to that because behavior didn't stop. So we packed up we went home early and then the waterworks came. Oh my goodness. That year. And since we've been going on about six months now with this I find that now I even have anxiety about going places with her because my ego and mind is getting in and saying it's not going to be fun. She's going to come plain going with her. You know it's just not fun anymore. So my question Nancy is this. You have three children. Your youngest is in high school. How did you hold this high vibration in your life when your kids were young [00:24:10] Wow OK. First of all like parenting is one of the greatest challenges but probably the greatest experience of my life. So holding the vibe high is just realizing that at least personally speaking for me my kids have been my greatest teachers. So for the most part any areas where they've really challenged me if I'm really honest with myself I'm looking at their behavior and they're basically throwing my behavior back in my face I things I need to work on. So first just being aware of that. OK. Second I have found that again if you go back to the energy of it. One really important thing to remember is another thing that is energy is our thoughts. [00:25:11] Right. It's. Yeah yeah. I'm. I'm a huge believer in change your thoughts change your life. OK. Absolutely. So your kids can definitely pick up on what you're thinking. So if you think they're going to act up and be a pain in the Guess what. [00:25:32] They probably are so again this is all easier said than done. Because again we're human and we're really really powerfully most regulated by our ego space. So a lot of times the best thing to do is when your kid is really challenging you is to go into more of holding a space versus holding the space for them but not giving their you know obnoxious behavior much energy at it. So allow mimes. Kids are acting up because they want your attention. You know they or they just they can't get enough attention. That type of thing. You know all of us have to learn that we have to take care of ourselves. Right. [00:26:28] You know there's there's going to never be a space in life for somebody who takes care of you nonstop. It's really up to you. So even you know supermom cannot take care of their kid you know especially attention wise 24/7. [00:26:46] No we need to eat and sleep too and have downtime. So I think a good thing to do oftentimes is this flight [00:26:54] Kind of hold their space but not like Don't fan the fire like energetically you have so break down for people like I know what you mean but for people who don't understand it tell them what you mean about hold the space. [00:27:10] And that last piece that you just said like give example something holding the space and this is something that as an energy healer. This is a big piece of the work holding a space means that this person knows that you are there like you're there as a source of support but unconditional like you're just going to let them be and you're going to be there and and help them work through this but it's their stuff and we're not going to have judgment on it and we're going to try and keep them as safe as possible but we're just going to kind of hold their space and let them work through this themselves because ultimately again like you have the answers you know what's right. [00:28:02] Right. So that's what holding a space is OK. It's very important to be unconditional though that's super important. [00:28:11] So going back to my example of being at great well how much you know there's a lot of offer I love that place. I mean it's fantastic it's so much cool. You can get overstimulated very quickly because there's just so much to do especially for the young ones. [00:28:28] So right only back to that example maybe sitting down with her because I feel like I was overstimulated as well maybe sitting down with her and taking a couple of deep breaths saying Ok out there's a lot to do here we're going to pick two which is new do you want to do and and go with that instead of just allowing it to be kind of this chaotic situation holding the space coming in and just taking that time out together collectively as a family probably could have helped it. [00:29:13] Well yeah because that would be giving providing some like boundaries for her which boundaries are very important to. In regards to energy you know it's when we don't have enough boundaries that's when you know we're just letting too much whether it's a person or a situation get into our space and it's too much. Yeah. So yes she probably was overwhelmed. I mean those type of places for me are really hard to you know you won't see me at Lollapalooza. [00:29:47] There are certain things if you're really energy sensitive that you have to answer in yourself and you can't be bombarded by that. [00:29:54] Yes I want to go into a couple of things. You know as you're speaking that what the other side was showing me is I do sit down with her and we do kind of hold that space every once in a while. But what it could be doing longer and what they're saying to tell everybody here is that the other thing that holding the space means that I don't do is bringing silence into it. So I work with her every once in a while and we take a couple of deep breaths but I notice that when you have those periods of silence you really center your energy what they're showing me I need to teach her is taking those periods of silence isn't a punishment. I mean let's take away the iPad for a second. Let's put everything down for a second and let's just sit and be for a minute and let's all reconnect with our energy and then let's come up with a grand plan. [00:30:52] And I think that probably would have worked better than anything while it shifts the process out of reactionary to action because again like a lot of times when we're upset and really in our minds space like will react we'll say things we don't mean or well you know some people even strike out and do something that they don't really want to do. So if you give yourself that pause [00:31:22] And you can go more into a space of like OK stop. What's the best action here so that you're not fanning the fire. It's like in an argument. Think of it this way. We've all been in arguments. Of which I avoid this like the plague but it is you most likely in a big argument or a fight. If someone's attacking you if you attack them back they're probably going to that's probably going to take you back and it's back and forth. [00:31:56] Ok how about like what happens if if somebody is yelling and screaming at you and you just pretty much like shut it down by holding the space but not giving them any like of their own similar energy back for them to use an attack more with. [00:32:17] Right. It uses everything. [00:32:19] It's a diffuser. Yeah. And if if they won't stop then you just leave. I mean I always say like silence or no answer is an answer. Yeah. You know it's a powerful one. [00:32:34] So that is another way of working with difficult energy. [00:32:41] So I want to mention one thing because I heard this a while back while we're on the topic of motherhood and I want to go into it it's a little bit negative and then we'll pass it will jump into all the positive stuff. But while we're on the subject of this you know I heard a male spiritual teacher laugh at women one day and I heard this man say any somebody that I really admire. He said I was on the phone with a female spiritual teacher once and her child was really loud in the background. And when I stepped away from the conversation I could hear the frustration in her voice when she was talking to our child. [00:33:18] Now I know the big time for female spiritual teacher he was referring to and I know she's dedicated her entire life to this work. I know personally that she holds a strong high vibration. I know that she's helped millions of people but this male leader in the spiritual community just really cut her down and made it out to be like she really wasn't as enlightened as she says she was because of the way that she had handled that situation with their child. And I just want to talk about this for a moment because have you noticed how some people in the spiritual community put on this front of perfectionism themselves. It's almost like a holier than thou persona. And I just don't believe it's real. What the angels show me is that every person here on Earth from the Queen of England to celebrities and Hollywood and CEOs you know everyone has down times and it just frustrates me I guess when these spiritual teachers continue to put on this holier than thou personas because aren't they going through frustrations and problems in their own lives. That doesn't stop for anybody. [00:34:27] That's right yeah. Yes. [00:34:31] I've experienced this phenomena quite a bit myself and again it's an ego thing not any one. I'll tell you what anyone who starts telling or judging people on the Enlightenment factor that they're not enlightened. [00:34:47] Guess what. [00:34:50] They're not very enlightened themselves. That's the thing. Who are they to judge that that is your own personal deal. And one person's enlightenment is not going to be the same as somebody else's. It's the whole point is we are all very very different unique perfectly imperfect souls. And the idea is that we need to honor and respect the differences. That's it. I mean there's no one way that is going to work for every single person. Yeah. The closest thing is would be would be the concept of love. Right. That's right. But that's that's a very you know not an easy thing to to attain all the time you know. So when all that happens a lot. [00:35:37] Yeah. There's a great book out there for anybody who is experiencing this as well and wants more answers to this. I believe it's called something like after the Enlightenment do the laundry or something to that effect. And it's it's so true. Do you get into this state of being. You have to integrate it into your daily life and what does that look like. So I thought that that was interesting. [00:36:05] Well here's another thing with enlightenment to in my opinion some of the times I feel most enlightened is when I'm just in the muckety muck of my muck and I accept it and don't hate myself. OK. A lot of people think [00:36:27] That I'm somebody that has no problems and I have and I have a very uncomplicated life and all of that because I do come off as quite chill and I am chill. But the fact of the matter is that's not true at all. [00:36:46] And I've had a ton of really complex I'm a very complex person I've had a ton of complex situations in my life both in the past and now and those kind of conflicts though and difficult issues are though what keeps me humble and helps me to work with other people because realistically if you're truly enlightened you know that everyone's got their right. [00:37:17] Yeah. That's it I'll make sure everybody has this. Everyone. [00:37:22] You just have to use the whole point is to help. What are you learning from it. That's the whole point. [00:37:28] So let's jump into a fun topic. All right. We both got dogs this year and unintentionally we both basically named them the same thing. [00:37:38] You've got Lou and I've known Lulu. [00:37:43] I have found I haven't. [00:37:45] I want to pet in a long time but we got Sir Fluff kittens of Oxford our little boy shit zoo we got them three years ago and he shifted the energy in our entire house. [00:38:00] Oh yes. [00:38:01] Tell me about animals the energy that they hold and the benefit they bring to our well-being. [00:38:08] Oh gosh. Well our family has basically always had at least one or two dogs and we went through a period where. Earlier this year [00:38:22] A really special dog we had had Harry who had a lot of problems. [00:38:28] He was really funny looking and he was to be quite honest with you kind of a gross stuff that a lot of problems but he was the nicest guy ever. So just that energy alone just showed light despite all his problems. He was the nice guy. So he he absolutely was never complaining always loving you know. So he had a difficult demise and it was just really messy. I'll leave it at that. [00:39:02] And when he finally transitioned I was like I'm we're not getting a dog for a long time because just the messes we had to clean up and the emotion and you know he did not. We had to like put him down which is usually you do have to do that but you know we were just hoping he would die on his own. But no. So it was very difficult and I thought No we're not doing that again. [00:39:31] Within I would say a couple days. Like the whole energy of our house just shifted. It just it was such a void in the house and it didn't feel right. So sure enough I think within the speech a lie either within a couple months we had moved show up in our life. So yeah and an animal definitely brings a powerful energy into your home because they are so loving and they do you know these dogs sometimes or not. We don't give them as much attention or. You know as they want or or but it doesn't matter. They still love you anyway. Right. So now they add a ton to your to your life and you're in your household energy without a doubt without a doubt. Yeah Lou has brought a tremendous amount of joy and and healing into our home. He's just he's just so loving and no matter what's happened during the day you can come home and he will absolutely come and sit with you or he always meditates with me it's so it just yeah they're very energy sensitive a lot of animals. So again though like you got to look at your energy and see what you're drawing into and what you need. So right. No because pets aren't for everybody. Nothing is for everybody but if you're real energy sensitive person it might be a great thing for you. That's a good tap. [00:41:11] I like that. It's a next question. [00:41:15] What are the most common struggles you see your clients facing besides the ones that we've already talked about and what's the advice or tips or tricks that you find most help them the foundation whether you know how whether you hate your job whether you have a difficult relationship with your partner or whatever. OK the bottom line is people don't totally know who they are and what goes along with that is not honoring their self capital S so the whole path to a big piece of the path to feeling more whole and happier is first figuring out who am I you know and then honoring that. And again a lot of that can happen in a space of stillness and getting out of. That mind and which is so influenced by outside forces. So pretty much people are looking outside of themselves you know like those that pair of shoes is gonna make me feel happier. Yeah. Two seconds. Well right. Or this eating that hamburger or you know all the stuff or being with this person or having this car or if I make X amount of money or all of that. OK. Yeah. Yeah. I mean to lie and say it does give you some happiness but it's it's a surface type of thing. [00:43:03] It doesn't Larry it's temporary or fully. [00:43:05] Yeah right. The true happiness is found like within an if this is simple it's simple. It's honoring your true self and being ok with that and really knowing your true self. [00:43:20] It sounds so simple but it's a very difficult thing to do because we have so many outside influence and distractions that set us off course. So that's like that is the foundation of everybody I talk to. There's not one person that can't relate to that advice. [00:43:40] Yeah. And with Spirit showing me when you were talking about that when I see a lot with my clients says this is work. A lot of this is working with a spiritual teacher but when you leave you have to do the work on your own on yourself and nobody else can do that work for you in your day to day life. And what spirit was showing me is so much about finding yourself and knowing who you are is about then following and staying in alignment with who you are. So if that jobs not serving you if that person's not serving you following that because there's so much fear or so much of our self identity wrapped up in these things that we're afraid to actually follow the path of who we are. By releasing these things right exactly right. [00:44:38] Yeah. Mm hmm. And a lot of our beliefs and fast beliefs about ourselves and what not have been conditioned into us is really small. Small Young people. So again it's not an easy process to really figure out who you truly are. [00:44:56] But it's a worthwhile process. [00:45:01] So what is like the step by step one two three process of what you do when you start to feel anxiety or sadness rise up in your body. [00:45:15] Ok. [00:45:17] The first thing I do is just lean into it. I accept it and I don't try to push it away because I'm a great believer in going if you try and go around something it's going to take a lot longer to really resolve it and process it and just going right into it. OK. So I. I accept. OK. I don't feel very happy right yet. That's it. OK. Second thing I would do is I would probably just take some time out for me and I would probably just depending on what's going on that day if I have the time to sit down in and just be still for a while that's great. [00:46:11] If I'm in the middle of a workday it may be a situation where I just have to take a breath and maybe pull up something positive to read or something that makes me happy or picture whatever and just remind myself that the situation does not define me. Another tool I use quite a bit which is super helpful for me is journaling. [00:46:36] I will. I will write a lot of it out. And here's a thing though. Try to write from your heart space your soul space not your headspace. Don't really think about what you're writing. Just start right then don't think about. [00:46:50] I find. Yeah exactly. I tell my clients the same thing I tell them to get into a meditative state first so that either really coming from their souls to voice their intuition instead of dread right they keep breathing and breathe. Yes. Breath work. Love it. Yep. So here's another question. You've worked with these big time celebrity mediums some who've been on TV and people the biggest skepticism that I hear from people is. Well they told me something I went to see this person and they told me something and it didn't come true. What do you say to those people. [00:47:32] Well OK here's here's the thing and Intuit is and I I feel I totally relate to being an intuitive. First of all. You know you've had a great like intuitive reading. [00:47:54] If you walk away from that session and you think or feel. That's what I thought that's what I thought. OK. So again it's a lot about you already know the answers. It's just like getting through. Like your your ego space of fear and mindset and whatnot. [00:48:17] But OK no with intuitive. [00:48:23] First of all nobody can tell you like. The hardest thing with intuiting for people is the timing piece because there's so many things that can change and so many variables and aspects going on in a person's life that can shift the timing and you know linear timing too is just that's such a human contact spirit world you know all to them like 300 years in our IT TO THEM IS LIKE NOTHING. [00:48:55] It's IT'S A those two concepts don't connect. So things can totally change. So especially with timing. So perhaps perhaps it never comes true. Or perhaps it comes true in a in a long time from now any. What a good intuitive is doing is basically reading the energy of the present situation. OK. So it's like saying this is how I feel it's going. [00:49:27] Like they can kind of feel into you and the situation and feel like yeah. This feels correct and this is the direction it's going in. Or oh no that doesn't feel right or it feels like that's gonna be an uphill battle or that's pretty much what they're talking about. Yeah I mean I will say sometimes just really odd information well or random information will pop into your head and you know yo you'll give a person that information and yeah it could be true I mean I remember one time I ran into a client I saw a once in a grocery store and she was wanting. [00:50:09] She came to a session cause she was upset that she was having a lot of problems getting pregnant you know and these are these are tricky issues to work with Reno because that's you know that's up to God. [00:50:26] So but I don't know. [00:50:29] Apparently I told her that I felt like that she was actually had had a little baby spirit around her and that she would be having a baby here or getting pregnant and the next I gave her a specific time and everything and I guess it was right and I was like oh my gosh I believe I said that to her even with this type of work like sometimes I will say stuff that really is not of my mindset or ego and that's the great mystery of it. [00:51:01] Yeah that's true. [00:51:03] There is a great mystery to how we get information you know. Right. You know we all have hunches on stuff that really you can't totally explain there's no tangible reason for it. There's absolutely. The more I do this work the more I know that I don't know more right. [00:51:22] That's one thing I know for sure but when we're dealing with them. Exactly. [00:51:30] Well remove both. [00:51:32] Oh good. It is that's so hard though because I've had clients like that too. And you do get information from spirit when they want to know something. But we also live in such a legal society that it's scary sometimes from my perspective to actually give that information because for example I had somebody come to me. I think it was last spring and she said you know I'm. [00:52:02] I think it was seven eight months pregnant. I've been told by three doctors three nurses to actually abort the baby because they believe something's wrong. They believe that there's gonna be major problems. And the this and this woman spiritual team came through and they said there's nothing wrong with the baby. They were showing me her grandfather holding the baby the baby was absolutely fine. And I think that was one of the the times my ego came in the most and said Yeah how do you tell people how do you tell somebody that it's gonna be OK. And the crazy thing is that she came back and she said the baby is completely fine. She had the baby and I the way that it occurred within the session I said you have free will. You really have to make this decision for yourself. But this is what I see. And she came back and she said the baby's completely fine. There's nothing wrong. [00:53:06] That's what I would have done to like honestly. Again you you know the answers and you have to honor what you feel like there's no body that knows better than yourself but you have to get to that space and really honor it. So but the other type of stuff is very difficult. [00:53:27] Yeah. So I know for me in my work that spirit has because my ego would come through so much in the beginning. Oh my God Julie you're going crazy. This can't be true. You gotta stop this. Don't tell people this and spirit basically had to knock me over the head time after time after time was just this intense validation because I have always said I just want to be a tool that God can work through. And they've constantly come back and said well this is how we're working through you wake up and how his spirit shown you that validation that what you're hearing the thoughts that are coming to you is not you it is them for me it's not really so much like I thought. [00:54:21] It's like feeling. It's very subtle. I don't know because this is something I struggle with all the time. For me it's always easier to work with other people than myself. [00:54:37] Although many things in my life that I've really had a strong feeling about have manifested even though I think a lot of people would have said you're crazy. [00:54:49] So yeah that's a real hard one. It's an ongoing thing. I just have to really trust what I feel and make sure that my intentions are in China. Right. And just [00:55:07] It's really subtle and it's it's just really knowing what I'm like trying to to help with with the person and what what serving their greatest good. But honestly what serves people the best is to help them figure it out themselves. [00:55:31] And of course some kind of get that go away of them. [00:55:35] I don't really like Yeah I don't really like to do the bulk of my sessions are in silence right. I do not want to give them a ton of my verbiage you know. [00:55:47] Yeah. Because no matter what you can't get away from some of me is going to come in there. I mean you know again this is for human beings. But you know the whole idea is to help them learn to know what that feeling is and when it's right and when it's not right. [00:56:05] Right. And when you say that that's kind of where our sessions differ a little bit because you tell me sometimes that I just don't shut up. [00:56:18] I never thought I'd die. I don't like the are. Yeah. [00:56:26] So let me ask you this too because I have a lot of clients who come in and when I get into their energy they have had a parent pass or somebody very close pass and they're worried about passing the same way. You know Dad passed of a heart attack. Worrying about passing from a heart attack two of these conditions being passed out. You know there's a lot of moms out there we worry about something happening to our kids. And well my question to you Nancy is have you ever had these deep seeded fears within yourself that don't come true. [00:57:07] So not all of the fears that we have are gonna manifest a lot of our fears don't manifest especially if we don't focus. [00:57:14] Yes. So though the work that I give them is overcoming those subconscious thoughts by seeing them self in the future by really living in the daydream of being in the future and what they didn't want to happen not having happened at all laying tools. [00:57:34] Do you give people to stop manifesting that stuff in their own lives. [00:57:43] The main thing would be to just live now. [00:57:47] Like be present because that's really all we have. [00:57:53] There's no guarantees of even an hour from now. OK so what I'm really about is just acknowledging that the fact of the matter is is that we really don't have much if any control over anything so it's more about managing what is happening in our lives right now. [00:58:22] And another truth is that nothing stays the same. So everything's going to change. [00:58:31] You're not united the same person even secularly an hour from now. So there's no being really focused on the future which many people are. That's one of my demons that I fight that creates so much anxiety right. Like just learn to be happy with like what you're happy with right now in this present moment if you can learn to do that then that is going to help you release a lot of fears and the same goes for the past you know. Some of our past is great and some of it's not so great. That's for everybody. [00:59:14] Yes learn from it but enjoy now. [00:59:18] That's the main thing that you know one of the things that we've been working on this year together is I've been having sciatic pain and plantar fasciitis that just popped up this summer. I know it's all connected from my hip to my foot. And I know that it's connected to some emotional junk that I'm carrying. I want to talk about how what we experience in our life. We hold in our bodies. How do you see that working. How do you get to the root of the issue and work it out of the body. I know you've had some great tips for me and I just want to share those with our listeners Wow. I mean that's more [01:00:03] I am of the belief that whatever physically is going on with you there is some there is an emotional energetic base to it. OK. That's my belief Absolutely. A very Eastern type of philosophy. OK so you know pain can manifest in a lot of different ways. And the way I work with it is just I am more [01:00:33] Work with the overall energetic body vs. I sometimes I will specifically like lay hands on a specific spot that might be hurting somebody. [01:00:47] But I don't know if that's necessarily better than just doing my thing where I'm at the head and just like sending the energy on through you know it's all about getting the energy moving. I like to compare it to like compare like the ocean to a stagnant stinky pond. You know those are two completely different energy. Presence of energy. [01:01:17] So that's great. Yeah. I love that one. [01:01:20] Well you got to keep things moving movements super important in all forms whether it's energetic physical or mental. When we stop moving usually great things don't happen. So just try to keep people moving and as an energy practitioner it's just kind of tapping in and giving them a nudge so that they can heal themselves. I'm just the conduit. [01:01:49] So one of the things that I've learned that's been I'm going to say a little bit shocking to me is I've never put emphasis in my entire life on flexibility and I know that's the premise of yoga but coming into this over the last four years I've realized that that tightness creates so much pent up energy within our body. It is a you know they have edge and the power of flexibility it's just you can't deny it. And I have I have conversations and I'll be out at parties or out at dinners and people be like oh I don't stretch you know I go work out but I don't stretch and they don't put there like me how I used to be zero emphasis on flexibility but it really helps work so much energy out of our bodies. [01:02:55] It does but maybe not for everybody. Like there's different things you know. The key is you have to find out what works for you energetic. So like for me I finally embrace that. I hate working out and I hate the gym and you know what. When I finally embrace that guess what I've lost. You know like 28 pounds you know yeah I mean I need to move but my form of it is more either walking or. I love to do movement somatic movement things like that. I mean but obviously the main thing is that eating is right. So but again it's different for everybody everybody. So so just finding out what works. [01:03:54] I have some rapid fire questions and I want you to give me your intuitive answer some are big big spiritual questions but I want to hear you're short quick. Just what you have to say about them. This one or two words. Oh no. Let's. Yeah. Like a sentence or paragraph couple of sentences or paragraph you know. OK. OK. So here we go. Some rapid fire questions. What is the point of life. [01:04:26] Why do we come here when there's so much pain the point of life is to to learn to love one another and yourself. [01:04:37] Perfect. What is the soul the soul is your energetic heart being [01:04:48] Who you are what you are here to do. It's the core of love. [01:04:56] I love that if you could only leave your kids with one piece of advice what would it be. [01:05:03] Oh my gosh it would be be yourself and love yourself. [01:05:07] Love it. [01:05:10] Okay. This is just for me. But. Who do you know that I definitely need to interview on this podcast. [01:05:18] Yeah Mel Doerre. Do you think he would do it. [01:05:21] Yeah I some I mean go have a session with them. Yeah see if you are in alignment with him. Yeah he's a great guy. [01:05:30] Well thank you so much Nancy for being on the show. [00:01:38] Hello beautiful souls. Welcome back to angels and awakening. [00:01:42] I am so so excited for our podcast today. We have an author Kay Eck. She is our local right here in Wheaton Illinois. [00:01:52] And she is the author of Divorce a love story the surprising tale of self-love to heal every last pain. Kay thank you so much for being on the show and welcome. [00:02:05] Thank you so much for having me Julie. I'm thrilled to be here. [00:02:10] What can you tell us a little bit more about yourself. [00:02:14] Oh well I'm a mother of four children. I raised them in Wheaton with my husband Fred and I have had careers in journalism and public relations and art and yoga and I always knew that it was within me to write a book. I always felt like that would happen. But of course this is a quite the book that I had envisioned writing but currently that's what I'm doing. I'm writing. [00:02:48] That's wonderful. [00:02:50] So tell us a little bit about your first book divorce the love story. [00:02:56] Well I started writing in the process of uncoupling from my husband because it was a way to help me process everything that I was going through. And that was a very therapeutic exercise for me and I committed to it as a daily practice. And probably a couple of months into it I realized that I was writing a book and I allowed myself the out of never letting it see the light of day. [00:03:32] But at a certain point I became very aware that it was a very healing message. It was it was healing to me and I knew that it could be a healing message for others as well so you know this is such a huge topic right. [00:03:48] And it's something that I think that anybody who is in a marriage or a long term relationship is going to come to at some point because you know anything that is alive it's growing towards its end from the beginning right. We're always kind of aging our relationships are aging our bodies everything and we have to work so hard to keep growing together and keep these relationships together but even still sometimes I don't see divorce as being a bad thing. On the other side you know I talk a lot about the other side and angels and they show me that divorce is not a bad thing. You know it's just that sometimes it doesn't work. [00:04:38] So can you kind of talk to us a little bit about you know you say that you're your spouse was a bad guy. You know there wasn't. Blake major major issues. It was just an uncoupling. And how did you how did you come to realize that for yourself. Well I I feel that there's a [00:05:05] That we're conditioned to believe that the value of a relationship is strictly in its longevity. And since I had this long relationship that we both felt had reached its fulfillment I couldn't reconcile that concept because everything that we had done together was incredibly beautiful and it was crushing to come to a point where we knew it had reached its fulfillment. And then to have all these messages that we had failed in some way and I was determined. And of course extremely hopeful that our family the family that we created could continue to be about love and not loss. And but what I found is that I had to undo all of my social and religious and societal conditioning and get to the core of what my beliefs were and who I was in order to rebuild our family in a new way. And our relationship in a new way because obviously we have. Relationship and a connection that will last throughout this lifetime and probably the others as well. [00:06:27] Yes. Yeah. So what is that like if you could gain a break down example for some of our listeners. What what does that look like to people. So we have these conditions from early childhood from religious upbringing from different points within our life where you know somebody might hear well you know divorce is frowned upon on the other side or you're bad if you get divorced. How would you tell our listeners that you can recondition re pattern those structures within the mind to those thoughts that we have. [00:07:05] All right. Well it kind of hails back to what you were saying earlier about the fluid nature of life right. We were never the same in any single instance. And it's it's not as though I'm against marriage because I think it's a beautiful thing. But what we've come to understand on this path of consciousness is that everything is in a fluid state. And so we can if we can allow ourselves to be in this fluid state when it comes to relationships will become better at judging when the relationship is serving its purpose and when it has reached its fulfillment. And we've learned how to get into relationships really well but we haven't learned how to get out of them very well. [00:08:00] That's so true. [00:08:02] So getting out of a relationship or bringing a relationship to its conclusion requires as much love as getting into them recognizing that your partner is a divine being and is on his or her perfect path is critical to that process. It's not easy. Conscious Uncoupling does that make anything easier. In fact sometimes it's harder because you have to look at yourself. You have to look at what core wounds you're bringing into the relationship and what's best for you. So it's it's not a necessarily as smooth and sparkly path but it is it's worth it. If your goal is to keep the love and continue your family. [00:08:51] Yeah. One of the things that I've been working on with my clients over the last couple of years and I really got in kind of deeper into in some meditation and prayer is how much we as women have kind of dammed our voice and we're so getting that back now. We're really learning how to use that more as a collective consciousness again. And on an individual level and you talk about the path to s love is the most important job we've ever had. You said it's one of the most important and hardest things we'll ever do. For somebody who's just coming back into their voice and really learning how to feel their feelings again and speak their needs. Where do they begin. [00:09:42] I think for me the beginning of that path was learning how to sit quietly and to become the observer of the thoughts and the feelings and to be patient and loving. With that process and to recognize how easy it is for us to distract ourselves from what's coming up from within it it's so easy and it's not necessarily the big obvious things like the addictions and all of that the distractions but there they're so subtle as well. It's so easy just to turn your focus from the sadness that you feel to the thought that you should be happy. And so my recommendation for everybody is that they spend a little time with themselves. Just getting to know themselves and and learning to be in that posture of accepting what comes up no judgment. [00:10:47] Yeah because that's what we do so often rightly plates place judgment on ourselves and others on our stories. [00:10:55] Yeah and I haven't met a single person for whom the path of self-love isn't the most difficult thing in the world. I don't know why it should be because we're we're really actually really good at loving especially as moms. We got that down but for some reason when it comes to us it's the hardest thing in the world. I've had the opportunity to speak with someone recently who is just coming off of a long prison sentence and had gone through an awakening through the process of being imprisoned and incarcerated at a young age and it occurred to me that the process of self-love is no more difficult for him than it is for me. And so it's really a very powerful core thing that we're learning how to do in this lifetime. [00:11:46] Yeah and I've heard you say before too that one of the ways that you share yourself love is when you need it. [00:11:55] You mother your sound. Can you tell us about that. [00:12:00] Yeah. I think there's a little bit of a notion that self-love is somehow related to physical comfort. And the idea of mothering myself included that physical comfort I would actually put my hands on my body in a comforting way but it also you know as a mother you have the responsibility of helping your children develop discipline and guiding them when they're running off and parent direction and this is the same thing that you need to do with yourself. It's like you have to pull yourself back to those feelings that are coming up. You have to have a discipline practice of putting yourself first on your list and that whatever that means to you and it's different for everybody whether it's finding quiet time to be by yourself or to allow yourself to spend money on yourself or pursue your passions or to speak your truth in your relationships whether that be with your partner or your parents or your children. The children aspect is could have possibly been a harder thing for me to do because I have been accustom to serving them in every way and putting them first on my list for a long time even when they're grown and they're not even in my household any longer. I was still making sure that their needs were met before I met my own. And I'm still in the process of untangling all that for sure. [00:13:48] Ok thank you for reminding us of this because it is so important for our listeners to understand that the only way that I found to really tap into your needs is to understand your feelings is to say OK well where am I at. What am I feeling. I found that the process really starts with feeling your feelings because so often we just shove them under the rug where are you. They're too busy to look at and that hurts too much to look at them. So we don't. And we learn to turn off our feelings. So step one is really feeling your feelings again taking that quiet time to be able to go inside and understand what you're thinking or feeling and then from there you can ask yourself well what do I need. And is that the process that you use to figure out what you need in your life. Because I know as a mom life does get so busy and so hectic sometimes and we are putting everybody else first. But for those who are so busy and are used to this work maybe what are some tools that they can use to really get to the root of what they need. [00:15:01] Oh this was such a big issue for me because one of the things that launched me on the writing of this book was the fact that even though Fred and I had been in our relationship in a really good way we were. There was no just no dysfunction there was no cheating there was no we treated each other kindly and well for many for all of the years that we were together. And yet [00:15:28] I felt so much shame at uncoupling that I couldn't even utter the word divorce. And for a very long time I didn't tell any of my friends or family what I was going through and I really just couldn't understand that. [00:15:44] And so that caused me to start looking at why I felt so much shame around this issue. [00:15:52] And of course that led me to some really deep feelings of unworthiness and inadequacy and being unlovable and I had to dredge up all that uncomfortable stuff in order to look at it and to understand the the untruth of it that that I was all of those things. So this isn't an easy thing for us to do and we don't necessarily have to take any action with these feelings because oftentimes they just want to see the light of day. Let's say that we've been burying them for so long they just want to come up and out of us and many times we feel like they're going to kill us. We it feels like annihilation. And I encourage people to summon the courage to sit with it so that they can find that the feelings that are coming up are not going to kill them they're going to free them. They just want to be released from the cells of your body. And once you discover how this process works you can begin to recognize immediately when some feelings come up and your initial reaction is to distract yourself from them. You now have the knowledge and the the ability to sit with it so that it moves through your field so much more quickly so you become a master at being human. [00:17:26] You know you're feeling the feelings you're recognizing them and then they're released leaving your field and it leaves so much more space for peace and contentment which in my own life if somebody had asked me what did I want out of life. It was top of the list peace of mind peace of mind. I just want peace. And that was obviously something that I I never felt. So I had all this stuff buried inside. And so that is what I learned about about this process is that those that peace is achievable. [00:18:02] I love that thank you that's so beautiful. [00:18:04] At one point I had a chance you know you talk about bringing consciousness into our relationships. [00:18:17] And I'm wondering for those who are working on creating a better relationship creating a stronger partnership where can we bring more consciousness into it. [00:18:32] Well I have to say that this is definitely something that I am still learning. And my first for some reason it was very hard for me to be conscious in my relationship and by conscious I mean being able to speak my truth and not concern myself so much with the reaction but to speak it because it needed to be spoken for me and my my fear was always how it was going to be received and won. So my practice in that was to start speaking the truth to myself like what is it that I'm really feeling here and and what what is my true. And as I became a little bit more comfortable with that. I could bring more of that into my relationships. And this is really for all relationships it's not just marriage partnerships marriage or partnerships and so it's also being willing to be quiet and not to react to what someone else is saying until you can really let it sink in. [00:19:52] Are oftentimes our first reaction is is to defend or to get triggered or to shut down and we have to recognize that that's that's us. That has nothing to do with what the partner or what your partner is saying it's what it's creating in you that needs to be explored. And so being able to sit and listen and hear and not defend from the ego place is critical to the process. [00:20:22] And I've heard you talk a little bit before about the shadow self. Does that kind of tie in there. [00:20:31] Absolutely because we this is a part of who we are. And I'm not going to pretend that I understand where it comes from because [00:20:42] I lived a pretty good life. You know I didn't really express my shadow side all that much. I mean I'm I'm just a normal human being. [00:20:52] But we. The shadow aspect we don't really understand where that's coming from it could be coming from past lives that were wanting to reconcile in this lifetime. But it's it's there and it's for me the shadow side represents or becomes seen in terms of all that shame that I feel and we have to get to the point where we recognize that we are lovable we are perfect we are divine. [00:21:28] And that's not an easy road you know. [00:21:31] Yeah. And I love that part about it too because you know at the beginning of this spiritual journey for me I was listening to all of these spiritual teachers and I was I guess I don't know if it was me or the way that I was hearing it but I would think to myself well it's all about living in this high vibration living in this high vibration 24/7. I teach my listeners how to open up their crown chakra get into more of a blessed out theta state. And that was the message that I was hearing from a lot of people live in this state 24/7 but as a mom as a entrepreneur as somebody who loves to create in her life you have to be human. You know you have to kind of be able to shift a think of it like shifting gears in a car between these different states of being. And I do see that as being our humanness of really loving all of these different aspects about ourselves loving the creation process loving being process. [00:22:40] Yeah I totally agree with that. I had the same experience. I think that we we need to recognize that for a very long time we were living in such density that it was necessary for us to understand that there were higher vibrations because before we didn't even know that. So all of the spiritual books and the teachers and all that I find was absolutely necessary on my path so that I could start poking up into those higher vibrations and feeling 100 percent right. And now I'm totally in agreement with you that where we are now as a collective is embodying the divinity here in the human experience and that means accepting all of what it means to be human from the feelings and the behaviors and the consequences of our actions and the clarity and do our city and all of those is the beautiful human history that's brought us to this point of record of bringing the divinity down onto this plane and seeing where it takes us. Sorry. It's a process also. It's never going to be starting it's never going to be one thing and not the other. [00:23:57] Yeah yeah we're always gonna have both parts to us. Another thing that I wonder if we could talk about a little bit is when I work with spirit and I've been praying and kind of meditating on this I see marriage as changing over the next 10 to 20 years. [00:24:15] And it's not about being anti marriage because I'm not anti marriage either in any way shape or form. I see how much love and how much fulfillment I have gotten and how much support and how much being in a marriage for myself has reflected back to me and helped me open and grow as a human being. [00:24:39] But you know marriage today and people going through and uncoupling process is very different than 20 years ago where it had to be this nasty thing it was always this nasty thing and it's not that way anymore. There are so many people who are uncoupling and doing it with friendship and with kindness. [00:25:06] Talk to me about that and talk to me about how you see maybe marriage as an institution changing over the next 20 years. [00:25:15] You know this is a big issue for me because I have four children and they're approaching the age where they're they're choosing you know partnerships for themselves. And one of the things that I realized after I wrote the book is that in a million years I couldn't advise them to stand together in front of a group of people and proclaim that they were going to be together forever no matter what. Because that's just a folly. A little bit and but what I I have come to recognize and what my message to them would be is [00:25:57] That marriage you come into a marriage every single moment of every day and you decide and every moment of every day whether you want to be present with somebody and whether you want to be in relationship and grow in that moment. [00:26:14] And so it's a it's a process of it's a daily practice like. Like anything and they get to decide how what shape and form that takes if they want to pledge their love to one another in front of their families and friends. I'm all for that but I do think that we need to talk about the fact that they're there can be a natural arc to a relationship where it has served our growth and and to recognize when it no longer is serving our growth and that doesn't mean that it's that it's going to be an easy process because you have a lot of shared history and love and friendship. [00:27:02] And if you can allow it to become something new then it will sir. It will continue to serve you. And so I feel that that is where we're headed with with marriage and a lot of young people obviously aren't taking the traditional route of institutional marriage. One of the things that was really kind of jarring and shocking to me in the process of uncoupling was how much control the state had in our relationship. For instance you know we had to petition the court to dissolve our marriage. And when we because we gave them the right to do that when we signed off on their paperwork and in the early stages of our own coupling our desire was to just try to dissolve our marriage without lawyers. And we were told that we couldn't do that. And then we tried to hire the same lawyer to represent us both because we had already written our agreement and we were told we couldn't do that. [00:28:17] Then we tried to get lawyers in the same firm. We couldn't even do that. So that's the whole system is set up in an antagonistic way so that the lawyers were trying to draw us draw the case out trying for each of us to get more leverage or property or whatever. And that's just such an. And that's not what we wanted. But it's very easy to be led down that path. Because you're feeling very vulnerable and it is a very raw time because it's challenging. And so it's very easy to be led in that direction and you have to be very conscious to to always be making the choices that you feel are going to bring you to the outcome that you desire. And I would suggest that that desired outcome is love that is what we want. And when we are feeling defensive and protective of ourselves our hearts are property it's representative of the fear that we're not lovable or we're not that love is going to be lost we're losing the great love of our lives so we may never be loved again. So recognizing that what's actually beneath some of those feelings that fear of being alone of being separate are the things that we need to look at because they can be the things that are driving us the most. [00:29:45] Oh absolutely. Always. Yeah. It's almost never the surface or the surface thing. [00:29:52] Yeah yeah. [00:29:53] We have to go deeper I'm wondering too if you can see you know 20 years down the road marriage changing in a way where the financial structure is different of maybe not us pooling all of our assets not but kind of remaining financially individuals with in a marriage relationship or a partnership so that if it does reach its arc the uncoupling process is just a more peaceful easier one for all the issue of Money slush. [00:30:34] Power is something that we really need to talk about because under money is an energy and we don't often talk about how that plays in to our relationships and it's typically never actually about the money it's usually about the power right. And this is especially critical for stay at home moms like I was because you can end up feeling powerless because you don't earn the money. And so I think this is something that that's an excellent point that we are really going to need to grapple with because at the outset you know this is a discussion that we need to have before we enter into long term relationships and have children together. How what's the exit strategy so to speak. [00:31:31] You know that if that becomes necessary and how the financial aspect is going to be Howard how are we going to equalize that if if both partners aren't earning the same amount of money. And if we could figure out how to do that in our relationships then we can take it out into the world and we can figure out how to do it there. [00:31:53] Yeah. I think you're right though you hit the nail on the head because as I've gone into this talking with spirit about this one of the biggest things that they bring up is motherhood and we need to have some concept of payment if we are going to have to remain financially independent and our relationships have some form of compensation while we're staying home because I know you know every month they're out there who has stayed home with their children and knows you're not sitting at home. [00:32:26] Obviously you are working more than you ever did in any job that you ever had. [00:32:32] Yeah I think that it's really important to understand that that is something that women have to take for themselves because we can no longer wait until that's given to us. And so that is the the big change that's occurring is that we're starting to recognize our value. What regardless of what choices we make about domesticity. So that is something that we are going to create. Nobody is going to create that for us. We're going to come into a relationship and we're going to say these are my needs. This is what I would like to do. I would like to stay home and raise my children and exchange for that. We're going to you know this is how it's kind of work. [00:33:20] However that's decided is of course such an individual thing but it can't go to a default any longer. We're gonna have to take responsibility for creating a new paradigm around that. [00:33:32] So you see this as starting with the individual that us women as in on an individual level we need to have these conversations take ownership of what we want and how we want it. The direction that we want to go in our lives. And if it's saying you know what ideal I want to be a mom I want to stay home with our kids because there is so much incredible beauty and value in that then we're splitting the paycheck half and half. [00:34:00] And that's how we're going to keep financially independent within our relationship. [00:34:05] I think there's a lot of value to I was just reading about this yesterday about the notion of every loose relationship having three separate Well bank accounts but approaches would be just as appropriate a term because there's your goals. There's the woman's goals. [00:34:28] There's the partners goals and then there's the goals that we have together. And each of those needs to be funded in an appropriate manner. And so each of us will have different priorities coming into the relationship. So I don't see how it can be anything but individual. And to allow it to be anything but individual is to place the power outside of your relationship and outside of yourself. So I think that yeah we're in the process of taking that all back. And if you think about the progress that we've made you know it's huge because back in whatever 19 10 you would never find the woman's name on the mortgage. You know it's wouldn't happen. [00:35:12] So of 19 and like I think it was actually nineteen ninety six. My parents got divorced and my mom had to have her dad sign for a credit card for her because she couldn't get a credit card. Everything had been in my dad's name. At nineteen ninety six that was. That's pretty incredible. Yeah yeah yeah yeah. So you're totally right. We've we've made huge headway but there is still more work to be done. [00:35:44] Mm hmm. And of course this that the times are such that we can have a rapid awakening here and we are in the process of a rapid awakening. So it's imperative that each of us stand in our power and observe the balance in our relationships and to re craft our relationships if that's what's called for and to have the courage to understand that other people don't have to like that they don't have to be on board with it but it still has to be done. [00:36:23] Yeah. K. Can you talk to us for a second about the kids and how you know for people who are going through this or are thinking about uncoupling. I'm wondering the biggest question that they have is the kids. [00:36:38] I mean they almost sometimes base the decision on the children and yet energetically the children are so much better off when they're in a loving environment with both mom and dad are happy and true to themselves. And so how do you explain this. What is the advice that you give the women that you work with. [00:37:03] Oh my gosh this is such a power packed point. There's so much to unpack when we talk about this issue. [00:37:13] For me it was definitely off the most heart wrenching and heartbreaking and difficult part of the whole process is because in my mind I had promised a some kind of forever to my children and it was very hard for me to break that promise when in fact what I had promised them was an illusion and an untruth and I was the only thing that kept me going in a process that I felt was best for me was and best for my partner as well was the fact that questioning whether I would ever encourage them to stay in a relationship that wasn't serving them. [00:38:08] And if I couldn't recommend that to them how could I record meant that to myself. And so for many years it was a back and forth because I was committed to that illusion and I know in some regards it was an ego related issue because I had been conditioned to believe that a long marriage was a good marriage. And so I understand that this is probably the most difficult thing for women because as moms you don't want to break the hearts of your children. That is the that's the worst case scenario. And but I also felt that I owed it to them to provide the example of what it means to be in your truth and to put yourself first. And if I couldn't show them that who was going to show them that. So you know the idea that this is better for kids. I I don't entertain that because I don't know and what I do know is that as souls they chose me and their father as parents and that their higher self knew exactly what they are getting into. [00:39:33] And I knew that this was the best way for them to learn and grow and expand as souls on earth. [00:39:40] And so I have to trust in the divine plan that everything that is presented to them in their lives is for their growth and their development and their highest good. So what. Yeah. Yeah. Because they don't like it. It's not easy for them. It does break their hearts. It shatters the illusion for them as well. But if we can get to a greater truth then it's all going to serve. It's going to serve us all in the end. Yeah. [00:40:11] Is there a way for this generation to present it to children today. You know because I've seen this in my own life. You know when somebody in the community or somebody at school is going through a divorce you know. And and my daughter come home and talk about it and will say well it's never gonna happen but you are creating that illusion. When you say that because I see us together you know and I see us together the long term but I think just in general and marriage we don't know what's going to happen 30 years down the road. [00:40:46] And of course in the message that you've just given your child is that staying together is more important than the individual truth. I mean you know that is what what you've just said. [00:41:00] But I think there is another way of saying it and that's what I wished I had been able to do when my children were young is two is when they come home with fears like that is to say in a relationship you get to choose every day whether you're going to be together or whether it's better for you to be apart and you always have to listen to what's best for you because that's that is your primary responsibility is to make sure that your needs are being met and your dreams are being fulfilled and your being the most important person in your life. So I think there's a way for them for you to model that this is how a relationship works it's it's an everyday decision it's an every moment decision. [00:41:52] Yeah I agree with that and of course our first instinct is to protect them and make sure that they're not feeling anything that they don't want to feel. [00:42:05] And so we're just training them to wear it down. [00:42:09] Feelings. Yeah. You're so right on. I love that so we can actually come to our kids and say this might be better for that person at this time in their life. And we always get to choose. I love that every day we get to choose if we're going to be together and yeah and two and two. [00:42:31] I mean it's a way of showing them that the power the power of their life resides within them that they don't perfect no one outside of them gets to say what happens and why they're the ones that get to decide. [00:42:49] Yes I want to talk about men for a second because there are so many men who are great guys that have huge hearts who really want to just do the best and be the best here. [00:43:07] But I have actually had 80 year old 70 year old 60 year old women come to me and say there is no passion left in my relationship and I don't know if I want to spend my last years living with no passion. [00:43:27] So I'm kind of breaking down two different things here. We have females who are feeling just the mundane ness and no passion there. And there are men who want to change. There are men who don't want to change but I really feel into the male energy. They're so confused right now about who they're supposed to be what they're supposed to be how do we help men that is in a way that we're not coming at them where they feel attacked. [00:43:58] How do we help them to support us more. This is a big question too of course because I have three sons and I whom I love and want to see you succeed in every way. However I don't think it is the responsibility of women to help men become men become human to become themselves. That is something that we've been doing for a long time and we have to step back from that role now. [00:44:32] We have to allow men too big to come into their full humanity. And I recognize that this is actually quite frightening for all of us. The hardest thing for us to do is to be ourselves and why that should be. I have no idea. But we have so much fear of being seen for who we are that it's crippling us. So that is something that I feel men are going to have to deal with. And it's not going to be an easy road for them just as it hasn't been an easy road for us. But the passion of a relationship in my opinion or at least for me would be to come together in a new moment in every moment because the truth of it is that we are different in every moment. And if we're being honest and true to who we are we are coming to the relationship in a new way in every moment. And so we're not riding on the past. We're not projecting into the future. We are in the present moment and the passion lies in being new to each other in that moment. [00:45:46] And so each of the partners is responsible for coming to that union for themselves. So we can't really do the work for the men. They're going to have to make their way that they're on their own. And women are awakening at such a rate that they're not willing to spend another moment in a life that isn't rich with with newness and presence. So when I first started on this path I started looking at the divorce statistics and the highest rate of divorce is still amongst quite young. From twenty three to twenty six or something like that. But the fastest growing rate of divorce is in the older age groups. And this is because we're starting to allow that a relationship that isn't serving us has come to completion and we are allowing ourselves to feel that there's there's it's harder and it's serves us less to be in a relationship that isn't present where there isn't presence than it is to just continue on the path that they had going because none of us knows how long we're going to live every moment becomes precious. [00:47:05] So well said K.. Thank you so much. So are you working on another book. So if you can't talk about it it's okay. [00:47:15] I just yeah I I have been. This is my heart's desire is definitely to to write and express and teach through through that process. And I I almost I think it's true of most writers that you prefer to the stuff that comes after which is promoting and marketing the book. So I've been kind of waiting and waiting and wondering what was going to be next and I have a project that has come into my life that I'm really excited about. It's just in the very early stages but it's got me feeling really excited about the incredible power of this particular story to set people free. [00:48:09] It's really exciting to me and I'm looking forward to kind of diving in. Indeed. [00:48:14] That is so exciting because that's where we're all at right now is this awakening and setting ourselves free. So what a gift. [00:48:22] Thank you. My pleasure. You know Kate I always ask everybody on the show Who Do You Think That I should interview next. Who do you know that I should interview. [00:48:33] That is such a hard question because I know so many incredible souls who are doing such incredible work. I mean my my network of teachers give me a couple. OK. OK so one of I have a friend. Her name is Alexis shell. She's a children's book author and she teaches yoga to children. [00:48:55] And she is deeply passionate about helping younger people who are challenged by the heaviness of the times. [00:49:13] And she is honestly she is like an angel on earth. She says the most loving presence and she's written a couple of children's books. And I think that in terms of Conscious parenting she is really somebody. [00:49:32] Oh I have to have her on. I've had at least four parents in over the last month who their children are so empathic that they are picking up the blockages of their parents and they're carrying them. And this is something that we're seeing a lot of right now because these young children who have come in over the last 15 years are so much more high vibrational than the rest of us and they're just so empathic. [00:50:07] It would be wonderful. Yes. And part of that that understanding is that as the children contain more light in their in their DNA and their genome and they come down into the three the 3D experience the the challenge of that is overwhelming. And so that's right at the point where Alexa is in helping the children develop the techniques and practices that can help them through that because it's critically important that we teach them how to inner resource because we can't necessarily give them everything that they're going to need. They have to develop the skills themselves and also she's able to help parents understand how to guide with love and compassion and understanding. And in this process we're going to change everything about how we raise our children. We're gonna be changing the educational system. We're gonna be changing. We're going to be changing the religious structures and society and all the stuff that's around the concept of family. [00:51:22] We're gonna be we're gonna be over on the precipice. Yeah we're on the precipice of all that. I know. I love it every time I see teachers bringing yoga into the classroom I'm like it's starting. Yeah yeah yeah. And meditation and yes. [00:51:40] Well one more question. Actually two more questions for you. Where can people find you if they want to find you online. [00:51:47] Ok so of course I'm on Facebook. I have both a personal page chaotic and I have a page for the book Divorce a love story which lists all my events which I have at about coming up in Wheaton on April 4th at 7 p.m. at Prairie path books in their new location in town square. Very excited about that. And so and then on Instagram I met is awake and yeah. Right now that's those are the best ways. [00:52:24] Beautiful. Final question. [00:52:27] This is a biggie but if you had long time in the future when you have done everything that you want to do here and if you had to leave your children with one final message one piece of advice what would you tell them. [00:52:46] I think for moms it's almost impossible to live your life without that thought. What would I be teaching my children if I did this if I did that. [00:52:58] And I think this is why we have children because it it drives us into a higher version of ourselves. And it's like a constant echo of our actions and behaviors. How is this going to be perceived by my children. It's such a gift it's a gift beyond words to have those little mirrors in your life. [00:53:25] And I want my children to see that throughout my life I have been working to become a truer version of myself and that that took a huge amount of courage and that their my love for them was that is the driving force behind behind that and my love for myself. [00:54:04] Yeah I think I would love to have them recognized that. But I also recognize that because they're individuals that might not be their experience of my life. They're going to have their own experience of my life. [00:54:21] And I have to be OK with that. [00:54:24] Well you've given ISIS so much to think about today so eat many yummy nuggets of just great information. And I thank you so so much for being on the show today. And just for your time. And for you bringing your energy. [00:54:41] Can I just also add a book is available on both Barnes and Noble and so on. [00:54:48] I'm so sorry I had that in my notes and then I just shut it out. Yes. Thank you so much. [00:54:53] And you should really purchase the book because it is an amazing read and I love Amazon you buy it on there and then it's at your house the next day which is fabulous. And I've even seen you you can read it once you buy it on Amazon you can start reading it right away I believe on the Kindle which is fantastic. [00:55:12] You know I it's not a very long book but it's packed and I I'm not saying this only for my own benefit but I really encourage people to get the hardcover because there is a trance a healing transmission in the book and as you read it I think you're going to find that you can come back to it again and again for that healing no matter what you're going through. And I I just want to add that the book is really not just for people who are going through a divorce because it also talks a lot about how to be in a conscious relationship and how to allow your greatest challenges to serve your greatest growth and how the process of self-love really looks and how it heals. And one of the surprises for me has been how younger people have told me that it has helped them heal from their parents divorce because you know we've been affected by divorce in on many different levels as friends relatives children and partners. So it has it has a healing for for all of us around the whole issue of relationships. [00:56:35] Yeah. So a perfect read for everybody in the family. Yeah I love that. Thank you so much. Nikki Hartley and I have to say, even before we get started, Nikki is a complete saint. [00:03:45] We have tried this podcast three different times and she has just worked with me on it, because it didn't work, the audio it didn't record it, and we just couldn't get a good recording. So she's back. She's still working with us. We've got great information for you today and you're just going to absolutely love her like I do. So as I just said I've gotten the opportunity to talk with Nikki four hours before I interviewed her. Nikki is an expert in many holistic fields. She's a registered hypnotherapist a psychotherapist a meditation teacher yoga teacher mindset coach. She's based in Boulder Colorado and she's even taught at the University of Colorado. She's also a mom to two young kiddos. Yeah. Nikki and I both share a passion for understanding how the brain works and how it can heal itself through various methods. So we're going to cover it all today. Nikki thank you so much for being here. [00:04:50] Thank you Julie for inviting me. I'm so excited to be here. [00:04:53] Yay. In the introduction what did I miss. Is there anything else that you want to share with people. [00:04:59] No actually it sounds like you covered it all. [00:05:02] Oh good. And you know some people like it at the beginning some people like to hear it at the end. But for people who are online right now and they want to check you out where can they find you. [00:05:11] Oh my Web site is www.mindbodymana.com [00:05:21] Perfect. So today we're really going to talk about let's start with the brain. [00:05:27] The brain works how it's tied to our spiritual selves. Let's talk about neuroplasticity for those who don't know what neuroplasticity is. Can you explain it from ground zero. [00:05:42] So neuroplasticity is when the brain requires itself. [00:05:46] When we put in new thoughts or new beliefs or new habits the synopsis in the brain actually change and they started growing together in a different way letting go of the way our brain used to wire and think and behave. [00:06:00] That's awesome. So really by changing our thoughts we can really change our lives. Right. [00:06:06] Oh absolutely. When you change your thoughts you do change your life. And there's this there's so many wonderful tools to get to those changes people to see to find what resonates with them. [00:06:19] So how did they start with that. [00:06:21] So when I do mindset coaching I try to give various tools. One of them might be meditation. Meditation is a great tool to help people get into a different brain state. Brain waves activate differently when you're in meditation so that you can make those changes subconsciously if you want a faster track. [00:06:41] You would use something like Kipnis therapy because you would change the brainwaves pretty quickly like immediately actually from theta to theta or Alpha and then you can use really easy things like journaling I know journaling super popular but it really does change the way that we have our external experiences because we're putting we're cementing or putting in concrete our thoughts. [00:07:08] And then when we write it down it kind of makes it more concrete tangible like you have this more visceral reaction to what you experienced earlier. [00:07:19] And then there are other ways that you can change brain by like changing habits like things that you do daily like if you wake up earlier and you do something differently in the morning like that can totally set the tone for how you're going to live your life and like do things the rest of the day if you start an exercise routine yoga routine meditation routine again. Let's see what else do I recommend. [00:07:45] Because once you like once you're in it for that many days you're really concrete. How many days did you say it is. [00:07:53] Oh I did it on but it usually takes 21 to 30 days to change your mindset or a habit or develop a habit because sometimes habits are good and you want to get a new habit. But yet 21 to 30 days typically and you have to do it diligently you can't do it once they like. It's been 21 days and I did that one thing. [00:08:14] So let's go through some common examples that I see with my clients of mindset because a lot of these mindsets come in in our younger years right. There's different ones that we develop as kids you know sometimes if our parents don't have a good relationship we create this mindset of well I'm like them so I'm not going to have a good relationship too. Or if mom and dad maybe struggled with money. We saw that as younger kids and we come in. We say well I'm going to struggle with money to struggling with money is a part of life and some things that I find my clients tell themselves with in their mind. So how would you show people in those two instances to get out of that mindset. [00:09:04] And that's a great question. So you basically need to go back to the brain state that you're in and the time period that that anchored in infants are typically in a Delta brain state. [00:09:20] And so they're really connected to the subconscious and then kids between the ages of 2 to 7 are in an alpha brain state which is like they're aware but like they're really easily put into like a dreamlike state. So that's why kids have such an easy time playing pretend like you could tell your kid like pretend you're a tree and they'll pretend they're a tree and then like hours later they're like I'm still a tree. [00:09:46] It's because they're in that alpha type brain state where there's a ton of creativity happening and then around 12 they slip into beta which is where there's a huge range and beta brainwaves from know normal awake state to like really high functioning beta where you're stressed out. Anyway as I say all that because in those alpha states between the ages of two to seven is when that pretend stage is happening and if they see negative external circumstances or they hear negative replies or they get negative feedback that kind of starts to anchor in their belief system and they play pretend I use air quotes that reality. So if they have a lot of hardship they have a lot of trauma they have a lot of difficulty they might be resilient because they're not going to really fully understand reality because they're in that create the Alpha Brain Wave like a different reality but it's still going to set the tone for how they're going to behave later. That's why kids everyone's like teenagers are so difficult while teenagers are mimicking and acting out now when they gain the autonomy to what they saw in their early life. And then when we become adults we still have the ability to do like change things and see things like shiny objects so we distract ourselves. So to change the beliefs about money you really have to create a new belief and a new habits and how money comes money can come from source or all that is or the universe whatever your higher believing belief system is from an infinite amount of ways like we try to control how we receive money right we go to work we get a paycheck and then if you run out of that paycheck you're like I'm out of money or there's not enough money or there's always all these bills coming. [00:11:42] While that may be true but then you're closing yourself off from trusting that money can come from an infinite amount of ways more than we are aware or allow ourselves to believe. [00:11:55] And so we really have to start opening our belief system to the idea that money doesn't have to come from a job. Money can come from any place and then we have to change our relationship with money. [00:12:10] You have to start believing that you're worthy of money that your frequencies are going to attract money and if you're living in these lower vibe frequencies like a fear mentality fear based lack struggle then you're going to push money away like source is not going to bring in these things because it's you're putting out the energetic frequency if I'm scared of it or I'm not and I'm not worthy of it or I'm not good enough for money doesn't like me. [00:12:41] So you have to create a different energy. I mean money is just energy. [00:12:44] It's like we can spend money without actually holding it. You know we have debit cards and or we can have the tangible money like that we hold in our hands. However it's all just numbers and digital and like it's just an energy exchange right. [00:13:00] It's just an energy exchange. So you have to change the relationship with money and become friends with money and you hang out differently. [00:13:07] And like you might spend something. That's why people always say like you get more by giving. And it's so true because when you have more to give or you have this energy of like I have this in abundance then you seem to always have enough and more than enough because you're able to share. [00:13:25] So really changing your belief system about money changing your ideas of how money works and then creating new habits of how you interact with money are going to 100 percent change the relationship. In the money that comes to you and there's plenty of different ways to do that again you have to find what resonates with you. [00:13:48] Some examples off the top of my head. Some people like to use old checkbooks and write themselves like a paper check. And then like they deposit it again air quotes deposit it mentally in there. [00:14:03] Like thinking they deposit it not in real life. Yeah I know what you're saying. I'm just making sure everybody else knew. [00:14:09] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Or like some people even create a web of a spreadsheet like income spreadsheets online like in Google Docs or something and everyday you deposit fifty dollars and you're like got fifty dollars and so you're just open to getting the 50 dollars not controlling where it comes from. Some people leave money jars around the house and like if they get changed and the like drop it in one jar they have cash they'll drop it in another jar if they have a check they'll put it in another jar and then you just visually see this abundance of money all around you. [00:14:42] I really like that one. I think I'm going to use that one. [00:14:47] You really are like wow I have all this money I'm never in black I always have enough there's money all around me all the time because you can put the jars in different rooms and another one would be to spend money like you already have it. That one is a little tricky because if you're still on that real fear based mentality and you haven't really shifted into the trust of the universe bringing you money from infinite amount of ways then if you go out and put a bunch of expensive stuff on your credit cards if you're in that fear based mentality then you're just gonna be in debt. [00:15:24] So I suggest if it's an old anchored belief and they've been dealing with money struggle for a long time. Start either with the checks that you write you know you hypothetically write yourself the spreadsheets or district collecting change and put it in the little jars the little money jars throughout your house. [00:15:46] Yeah because we you know it's interesting. What. And you know I love the analytical part of me I love you know the woohoo and this is probably too analytical for the Lulu. [00:15:58] But you know one of the examples that I've seen is you know without even any names or who anybody is. But I have somebody who came to see me who said you know here's the situation where about three months away from losing our house. [00:16:16] So my husband says I know this money is coming I feel like it's coming but I don't want to sell the house I don't want to sell the house but the message that had been coming through to her the entire year that she had been coming to see me was sell the house sell the house and I said Have you sat down to look at the finances. And she said no I don't want to look at the finances. So I think you know I totally agree I totally believing and having that mentality. But at the same time we can't totally turn like this blind eye. She even threw back at me she said you know well I went to see somebody else and they told me that I'm going to win the lottery. So I'm just thinking I'm winning the lottery. And I said you can't. Now look at your finances you can't not. Has she said My husband wanted to sit down with me my husband wanted to sit down and she won't sit down and look at it. So what was spiritually shows me is we have to give 100 percent and then they give 100 percent right. If we're not given that hundred percent and we're not open to the truth of it all to me it just gets a little dicey. [00:17:32] Oh true and it sounds like she was still being fearful around looking at money instead of being like all right friend let's negotiate. Let's see what you have to bring to the table and then how can we work together. It sounded like she's like Oh no I'm just going to avoid this and hope it goes away or solves itself. And you're right. So when we are really upfront and honest and like we look at a situation that might be uncomfortable or unpleasant regarding money because we do live in a society where we need money most of us do to like pay our mortgage or pay our car payments or the utilities food. [00:18:10] When you actually look at like how that relationship's going if you're telling money like I don't deserve you all I know is there's not enough of you to go around and you make me upset and all you do is cause stress in my life. [00:18:24] And that energy exchange is going to be really difficult. It wouldn't be the same as if you treated another human that way. Right. So if you were constantly like this is my friend this is my roommate we live together. But every time they're around they totally freak me out. I don't really like them here. I don't feel like I deserve a roommate because I'm totally messy and they probably don't even like living with me like then you're gonna have a really strange relationship. [00:18:53] Everything in this world in this universe is an energy exchange every single thing. So change your relationship with money change how you interact with money change how you think about money change how you have a relationship with money the same you would do with a human or a pet or your garden. Have you seen those videos where people like talk to plants and like they're really mean to the plants and they're like you're ugly you're worthless and the plant dies. Yes same thing. It's an energy exchange like there's something really powerful with words obviously but that energy that's there behind it. [00:19:30] So you did this with water and rice too and the rice that was in the water that was spoken mainly and negatively too grew mold done it. Whereas the other one didn't. It's it's amazing it's so fascinating. [00:19:45] So if you're talking ugly or thinking ugly about money what do you think's going to happen. It's going to shrivel up and die and grow mold or it's going to stay away from you. [00:19:57] So don't do that. [00:19:59] Talk to money like your best friends. Like I love you so much. Let's hang out. Let's go have fun together. [00:20:04] Yeah well I did. That is interesting because you know I'm still doing some work on this myself but I tend to see it as dirty. [00:20:13] Yeah. [00:20:13] And in the spiritual like the things that you and I do we feel and because of our backgrounds I think that there is a little bit of residual belief or guilt behind money and receiving money for helping others when our gifts are so natural we think like oh I should just help everybody freely from the kindness of my heart. And that would be great if we could pay our bills in kindness. [00:20:42] Yeah. And you know and I do eat. [00:20:44] That's so true because that happens quite often actually people call and ask for a free reading and you know I would love to be able to help as many as people as I can and where I can I do provide discounts to people if they really do need that help and they reach out to me. But I have to be able to contribute to the monthly income. Otherwise we're in a deficit every month. [00:21:09] True. And when I went through my Reiki master training I was living in Hawaii and I had the most amazing reiki master as my teacher and she told me in Reiki is an energy exchange. It's a Japanese form of energy healing. However if what you need whatever you need. [00:21:29] We always try to take care of ourselves and whatever you need for the other person to receive the highest benefit from you is what you should receive. And Dr. Tsui the man who is responsible for creating reiki and bringing it over here. He even wrote recognize that in his own teachings he was trying to help all these people by giving them reiki and healing their energy and improving their lives. [00:21:57] And he realized when there wasn't a good energy exchange that they resorted back to who they were and they went back to living in a lower frequency or going back to committing crimes or living on the street because they didn't value his offerings. And so the good energy exchange whatever people decide to put on it if it's if you if you feel good about doing the job and they feel like they've invested in themselves that's a better energy exchange so that both people benefit. Otherwise if you do something for free and you're kind of like miffed about it like this isn't serving me I don't get anything out of this the attitude you're going to bring to the situation is I don't want to be here and then you cut yourself off from source. [00:22:47] Right. Right. That's true. Let's talk about vibrations a little bit because you know one of the things that we talk about on this podcast and one of the things that Spirit shows me is where we're touching on this but I want to go deeper into it. [00:23:01] So when we talk about human being the humanist is the body the beingness is the soul the body has one set of vibrations or frequencies to it and we can optimize those frequencies to be of its best health. But that's not what we're talking about today. I want to talk about the soul and the different set of frequencies vibrations that the soul has to it because what came out about in our conversation and I think really what I've been searching for since my dad passed away and I got into this is I can tap into this higher frequency through my crown chakra and I've taught so many people how to do this too. [00:23:45] I really feel like it's a huge component of the work that I do. [00:23:52] And aides called so many different things right. I mean they think that this is what Eckhart Tolle is talking about when he calls it a Power of Now. You know people are calling it so many different words and terms but you had mentioned alpha beta and theta states. And what I'm wondering as I'm bringing this knowledge to our listeners I want to talk more and more with people who are scientifically knowledgeable about this wondering if I should go to one of the scientists out there who are studying Alpha Beta Theta states. [00:24:28] Is it a theta state. Is that with that frequency is. [00:24:32] Absolutely. [00:24:32] So when we I think I mentioned this a little earlier but the average person when they're awake is running on Beta Beta is our conscious state and there's a huge frequency range and Beta 2 where you can be like reading a book that's a relaxed beta state and then the next level would be like learning where you're engaged you're a little bit more aware and alert but you're taking processing information you're taking it in. [00:25:02] Then there's high beta where it's survival fight or flight cortisol pumpin like you are stressed out like there's a bear chasing me. [00:25:12] Now most people live somewhere between that learning and engaged beta state which is like the medium one to like even a high beta states where they are just like my job a stressful family stressful traffic is stressful paying my bills stressful stressful and they are just constantly getting all the brain to pump all these different hormones and all of these different neurotransmitters into the nervous system which is called the sympathetic nervous system where they are just going to be on high alert all the time. [00:25:47] You're not going to take an information you're going to be very disconnected and it's the lowest frequency or vibe that we can meet that is the that that is the frequency that most human beings are operating at right now within their body that is more the body's frequency right. [00:26:07] Correct. And you can test this like if you look at a EEG machine like there's been all these tests where it's just that frequency is being emitted. [00:26:16] And so to change that to change the frequency to change how you to put your body out of the M.S. and into the passenger seat because you really want the mind to be in control then you have to go into meditation which is going to take you to an alpha state it's where you're relaxed you know you're not you're not as stressed you're more like in a nice daydream state theta is where your brain goes into awareness but your body is asleep. You have now taken the body completely out of the driver's seat and you're in your subconscious mind. However yes you're still aware and you're really able to get into the reprogramming of the brain you're able to let go of the old habits old beliefs negative thinking and theta theta can happen if you're really well practiced in meditation or I hypnotherapy where you bypass the alpha state right into theta the body's sleep the minds are aware and you can start reprogramming when you're an alpha brainwaves. We talked on this earlier with kids where they're able to play so you get out of that survival mode and beta and you get into that creative place. That's what the alpha is going to do. [00:27:36] You're actually functioning in your daily life while you're living. And it's it's like a meditative state but it's so much more than that it's a blissed out. [00:27:47] Yeah. So you're aware and you're mindful that's where all the Mindful talk comes in. It's like how can I. What is Mindfulness. What is Mindfulness. Mindfulness is getting you out of beta into alpha in you're just really present really super presence of everything happening in your life and you can say things like I'm angry but then you're gonna go why am I angry. Oh because I'm sitting in traffic and this person in front of me is driving really slow and I have to be at work in five minutes you can have that analytical conversation like you would in beta but you're just more present and then you're able to stop yourself and go I'm going to get there. It's not a big deal. It's like you're just more present and aware of what's happening in your day to day life where beta you're just like I need to get there I'm angry. This person needs to move out of my way like kids or you're just like I'm angry and you say it I'm angry and you don't really reflect on what's causing it and how you can help yourself and figure out what you need. But yes. So high frequencies would be theta. Delta is when you're just completely knocked out like it's when we're dreaming asleep so Delta is that past Alpha. [00:28:56] Yeah. So they're the alpha. I mean I'm just gonna put it in order and so be like Alpha Beta Delta and there's gamma and then theta. [00:29:07] But yeah so theta is the state where we're aware but we're connected to that subconscious level we're connected to our higher self. [00:29:15] We can't even get into theta with prayer or feel like if people use mala beads and they're doing their mantras. So that's a great way to also get into theta because you're getting into something bigger than you you're. [00:29:29] That's what I tell people too. I tell people you know the first place that I ever really felt this was at church and I was praying at church when I was younger. [00:29:38] I think I was getting into theta state. [00:29:42] Thank you. Yeah. Yeah some people too I want to ask you about this. Some people say that when you're in state a state they describe it as you feel like you're living in a different dimension. [00:29:54] Sure. I mean we can all have different responses feelings thoughts sensations emotions that come up when we're in a state that shuts off our external senses. So if somebody is like oh I feel like I'm somewhere else. Well that's definitely what you're experiencing. Some people in meditation they're like I saw colors. What does that mean I'm like It doesn't mean anything. You just you saw go like but you're accessing something bigger than you because you're turning off the external senses. Like I said so it feels different. It's not ignore where we're really connecting to in our inner self. And however that is displayed. We're like oh wow that's new because it's so foreign. [00:30:39] Yeah yeah that's awesome. So let's talk about this so we have the ego like mind. Thirty thousand rapid fire thoughts a day. Not really even focusing on one thing and we we live from that ego we're really tending to live from the past or the anxiety of the future. So how do you teach people how to remove that. How to really tap into their essence their intuition more and turn down the volume on those thirty thousand rapid fire thoughts today. [00:31:13] Good question. So ego gets a really bad rap. [00:31:18] I thought we should tell him first tell him first. Oh my gosh. It's 11:00 11:00 a.m. right now. [00:31:23] I don't know if you see that ego. [00:31:26] What is that thing that you have that saying about ego isn't like the 13 year I know it is that 13 year old at the party. [00:31:33] Yeah. So it goes like your 13 year olds like a 13 year old at the party but you don't want to leave them in charge. You know they're functional they have their purpose. They can do some good stuff. [00:31:44] But you know they might burn the house to help I love that because ever since you told me that I think that is my ego my 13 year old self so true but ego wants to help us survive. [00:31:56] Like it keeps us at this survival mode but it also is very self serving like what's in it for me and it. [00:32:05] But they're such good and that like there can be moments if you don't have ego then you're gonna be taken advantage of or that you would put yourself in harmful situations or that you wouldn't really think like well should I do this or not. Like so there's definitely a place for ego however ego should like the body should not be in the driver's seat ego should be a passenger to your mind or your higher self and ego has this great way of helping. [00:32:41] Like I said to keep us safe and like help us do what's best for us. You just don't want to leave it in charge because then you can become very self-serving like I said and you can also only think about yourself and you don't think about others. So to transform the relationship and you have that good energy exchange with ego. You want to again practice something that gets you out of the beat of brainwave state and put you into alpha where you're more creative in your more present and you can go. This is. This is safe to do and and it will then align with your values. So that ego will keep you safe but you just kind of want to like dial it back and just be like All right. I see what you want me to do here however I need to do this. It's just a very quick internal judgment that we have and we have to do it through practice. Everything's through practice. We don't become good at something immediately because we decide we want to be dialing down. [00:33:49] Ego is best done. Yeah. When. [00:33:52] When you have a practice where you get out of yourself when you remove the me me me me me thoughts and you're able to see the bigger picture and how we connect with everything around us then ego kind of takes a back seat. [00:34:07] It's like OK you're in charge not me. Listen. I like that. [00:34:13] So in order for us to come into this more in our society we're going to have to start to talk about it more to talk about our intuition and what I find is that we don't openly share with one another even like our close family and friends when we get these strong whispers in our heart when we're hearing our intuition. Why is the intuition tabu. Why don't we talk about it more. [00:34:41] I believe it's because we're still kind of dealing with the repercussions of when people did talk about these things they were shunned or they were told they were bad you know like the Salem witch trials or how paganism wasn't a part of a religion and like we all had this very fear based idea about people who could explain things that we usually can't. [00:35:11] However it's really funny and I know you probably get this all the time but if you talk to people one on one typically if they know like you have this gift or that you're able to talk to spirit all of a sudden everyone has their own example of something that's happened to them in their life. [00:35:33] That is a form of intuition or spirit communication. We all have a sixth sense. We all have intuitive abilities. We just don't practice them or we feel like oh I can't tell people that I have them because people think I'm crazy or bad or charlatan or that it's embarrassing you know depending on your background and the type of community that you grew up in. So we do we really need to change the conversation that we have around it and understand this isn't an 8 thing that all of us possess inside of us every single one of us even animals are so intuitive. And when we come to that realization and have that acceptance and realize it's not bad just lean into it and cultivate whatever and however you receive messages so that it can best serve you in how you live your day to day life. I tell people all the time. Like the difference in how you receive messages. The easiest way to figure it out is yes or no. And so when you ask a question and you can ask spirit or God or you know the universe or all that is whatever you believe in like Is this good for me. And if there's something in your heart or your head where you get a resounding yes. And like everything in your body gets goose bumps and you're so pumped. [00:36:57] That is your your soul or you're into it intuitions or higher selves. Way of saying this is a good thing to do. This is joyous. [00:37:07] This is happy when you get those feelings where it feels like the pit of your stomach is dropping and the like you freeze up in like you feel like I can't move or I'm gonna be sick or oh my gosh I need to like hide my head in the sand or run away. That's your intuitions way of saying no don't do this. This is bad. Like stop where you are. Those are intuitive messages. Those are two physiological responses that we can get from our own intuition our own higher self our own soul. And then as you practice and become more familiar with your own abilities you'll realize that you get messages in different ways. So some of us have the gifts like you do where we can talk to angels and spirits and some of us just have knowing and some of us have visions we all have different gifts. [00:37:56] We actually do. One hundred percent. You know what. Going back to what you said earlier the ladies who you're working with who see the color. I love that gift because I don't have it I can't see color at all. So I always wonder what would that look like. So I have them describe it. [00:38:17] And yeah I know everybody does definitely have a spiritual gift it just. [00:38:23] They're also different. Absolutely. And I think that's what really draws us into different types of congregations where we want to find the familiarity and we want to have a sense of community with people who do have similar experiences. That's where those bonds happen of like where that resounding like me too happens and then you have a different emotional response to your life and you have different experiences because you're able to share those commonalities. And I think that's what works so well and very different sectors of like spiritual practice. I think it can be a really great thing to find somebody that helps you cultivate your own spirituality or your own intuition or your own gifts. [00:39:05] Yeah which is why it's great that there are so many different people out there like us that you can work with locally because it's nice to follow people like on a bigger national level. But it's also nice to have somebody local that you can actually get face to face with and really learn from one on one for sure. [00:39:26] Absolutely. Some of my best training has come in communities and not necessarily in like a higher education setting. And it's because you're able to express your vulnerability ask questions and really be seen witnessed or heard by people who are not going to judge you and allow it allows for some tremendous spiritual growth when you are one on one and are able to have that bond that relationship that that great energy exchange. Yeah yeah yeah. [00:39:58] You know I know we talked about this a little bit when we were talking about money but one of the cool things that had come out of our last talk was quantum theory because when we were talking about quantum theory we were talking about the realm of possibility. [00:40:14] So I wondering if you could explain what quantum theory is to our listeners because I just think it's so fascinating the science behind it and then how it works in a different example other than money. [00:40:30] Ok. All right. Let me see if I can do this. [00:40:33] So quantum theory or the realm of possibility is when you have a thought and as soon as you have that thought it is now in the realm of possibility like you pictured it in your mind's eye or you have felt an energetic response to it or an emotional response to it and now it is actually a possibility if you sit down and contemplate on that thought that goal that dream that aspiration that you have created you now have action steps that you can take to attain that goal that dream in that realm of possibility and so that quantum theory uses that idea to help us manifest. So if you anything that you can perceive you can achieve and I think that's what's the really great part of using thought to help us when we cultivate our thoughts and we use it to help us manifest or to bring something into form then that's a really powerful tool. And so to think of something like That's not money that you want to manifest. Using quantum theory or realm of possibility would be so OK I can give a personal example of that. When my husband and I were still living in Hawaii we he knew that he was going to go to school somewhere but we didn't know where and he asked me really generously like if you could choose where we live where would you want to go and I was like Boulder. [00:42:18] So the odds of us getting to actually move to Boulder rely on the fact of he has to get accepted to this program. He has to pass this program. Then he has to get accepted to the University of Colorado. Then we have to like there was all these big hurdles in the way of actually of us actually getting to Boulder. However what I did it as I was like nope we're moving to Boulder. That's it that we are going to live in Boulder. And I started probably six months before my husband went to this school so I didn't know he got accepted to this school and I'm not UC but like ah see you. But he got accepted into this program where he was going to go somewhere. We still didn't know where but I was like nope I've decided we're going to Boulder. So I started looking at houses in Boulder. I started researching the kind of clothes I would need to wear in Boulder. I started looking at jobs in Boulder. I started looking at office spaces in Boulder. I started thinking about the type of house and the type of neighborhood I wanted to live in in Boulder. My whole perception was already we're moving to Boulder. [00:43:29] Like there's no other. That's just it. Like I was so adamant so determined so hard core believed it was happening. So my husband the whole time was just like you're putting all your ducks in one basket or whatever that expression as you're putting all your eggs in one basket. You don't know like you need to look at other places. And I was like Hush now. We're moving to Boulder. And so I I was looking on the internet looking at different houses found the house that we live in now. I'm like that's the house I want. And he was like We're not even moving for like six more months. That house will probably not even be available. I'm like No that's our house. And I started looking at it and was like oh this would our couch will go here how I want this kind of couch made a Pinterest board. I made a Pinterest board for this house. I didn't even know we were going to move into. I love it. I was fully believing this isn't this is it. So I think using that realm of possibility that thought I had. [00:44:34] We're moving here and then living as if it already exists. That's the key to change using quantum theory live as if it already exists. Then that is how I manifested this house. That's how we ended up in Boulder. Like I just. And that's the way quantum theory works is that when you start believing in a new reality that thought that you had that realm of possibility and you live it and believe it to be true your external experiences have no other option than to match that perceived reality. So that's how manifestation works. That is how law of attraction works when you use a thought and you use action steps and start believing it already is real. That is your reality. Everything in your life shifts so that it does become your perceived reality. [00:45:32] Yeah this came to me in a crazy way. I'm going to tell this story on a different podcast coming up soon but I was on a bus going to go on a business trip. [00:45:42] I was in the airport I was in this huge cafe area in the airport out at O'Hare and there was no seating anywhere. This guy came and he sat right down and out. Well he asked Can I sit down next to you and I was like yeah you know come on over. [00:46:01] I started talking to him. He was an inspirational speaker taught me all of this at a really young age. [00:46:10] Oh cool. I know I know. So we talk a lot about this on the podcast so thank you so much for explaining though the science behind it and actually putting a name on it with quantum theory because I think it just helps to have the background info and oh there's I was going to ask you that ties into this. Oh you know I was gonna tell you. [00:46:33] It's connecting to energy because I am connecting to people's loved ones and the other side. A lot of times they'll tell me I need the person that you're working with Julie. [00:46:46] I need them to understand how to connect with me themselves and what they teach me and what they show me to tell you is you have to see them as if they're there right in front of you. [00:47:00] You have to see what they look like what it would be like to look into their eyes. Give them a hug. [00:47:06] Touch their hand and as you are connecting with your loved one who is in heaven on the other side through this visualization what you're doing is calling to their energy bringing their energy closer to you. [00:47:22] And I really believe that because as you were talking to me what I was seeing from them is that it's the exact same thing with quantum theory. It's just with things that we want to manifest in our lives. [00:47:34] Right. And not only is it that energy exchange then you also have the emotional response. That's why a lot of people say like even though your loved ones are gone they're still around you or you can keep their memory alive whenever we think about our loved ones even if they're not around or not just the loved ones like if you think about a new place that you want to live and a job that you want to have the money that you want to create. [00:48:00] It's that energy exchange again like you just said. Like if you have a loving kind happy joyous response to it then you're going to get more of that. Like it's no more. It's a higher frequency emotional reality or perception like you will be closer to that loved one who is on the other side when you can picture like a moment that you had together how they looked when you saw them the hugs that they gave you and funny things that they said you're having that emotional response and that's a beautiful energy. [00:48:37] Same with no money or a job or a place to live or good health you know like when you love your body your body responds so differently. For me I know that like I struggled for a little bit with was like doing that last ten pound weight loss after I had my second kid and I wasn't treating my body very nice like I was you know doing yoga. I was doing the bare minimum. I'll be honest. But when I really started like loving my body eating well you know I completely cut out booze doing yoga every day meditating every day my body responded and said Oh you do love me and that the weight released a lot easier and I had been busting my booty at the gym for a year and I was so mad. I was like Why am I not losing weight. This is ridiculous. I hyperventilated twice today [00:49:32] Because my body is like but you're not ready to lose it because you're still treating me like crap. And so I just had to really change that relationship that energy exchange I was having with my body to like for it to go OK I'll respond positively now I'll give you the results you want. Also I had to believe that it was going to happen by making these changes. So I feel like we've been talking a lot and it's been awesome about good energy exchange. [00:49:59] No I love it. You know we talked a lot about a lot of different things today but I think a lot of our listeners are at different points. [00:50:06] You know some are beginners summer intermediate summer advanced and I'm just wondering you're kind of like I am you've read a lot. You've looked at a lot of different things. People are just getting started in this. Are there some books that you could recommend that they picked up. [00:50:20] Oh man so many you know I really I do like Esther and Jerry Hicks I feel like that's the really good starter into the woo woo or not necessarily remote but understanding how Spirit works. [00:50:40] I think Esther has this ability to tap in to connect that communication with Spirit. That was my toe in. And also like the alchemist. Did you ever read that book. [00:50:55] You know a long time ago. Yeah. [00:50:59] I think it's a great book that you can either take. It's just a really great explanation of the journey and how things unfold and manifest for higher self when we truly believe and. Yeah. Esther and Jerry Hicks are great. [00:51:16] It's the toad don't know very much about them I'll have to check them out so they are the ones that did Law of Attraction. They coins the whole law of attraction. The secret. I feel like that's one What the Bleep Do We Know. That's also it's also a documentary and not just a book. But those are good like. Way to dip your toe in. [00:51:35] Did you see the new documentary. This is the one I love so much right now it's on Netflix it's called Heal. [00:51:42] No but you're the third person to tell me to watch you. [00:51:44] Oh get out of here. Yeah it's fantastic. H e l. And if you've got Netflix it's right on there. But it is a great great documentary. [00:51:55] Oh I'll. I'll definitely check it out. Yeah. There's a lot of different books that people can use to dip their toe in and be like. Does this resonate with me. Yes. Awesome. Take what you need leave the rest. [00:52:06] Totally. That's awesome. So Nikki you know the other one that you really recommended and I highly recommend him to is Joe dispenser. [00:52:16] I love Joe. I love him so much. I love his work. He yeah he resonates with me. I think just so much. [00:52:24] Oh yeah. He's really brilliant. And I really just like his vibe his personality I like how he's scientifically explains the woo. Something that definitely and might obviously resonate with myself where it just makes it more under my little analytical mind. I just really like the way he explains how things work and how we can make that connection. Totally. Yeah. And Dr. John Cabot Zen another great guy. Turn him in. OK. I'll check it out. Yeah. So wherever you go there you are. [00:52:59] He wrote that book about meditation really great box them as well and for people who want to find you online again where can they go. So Facebook the Graham I know kids are calling these days [00:53:14] Is all mind body mana and then my web sites Mind Body money.com. [00:53:18] Oh I see them. Thank you so much. Inherently for being on the show. I just really appreciate your time. [00:53:25] Thank you so much for inviting me Julie. It's always so fun to talk to you. [00:53:28] Oh thank you. Have a great day everyone. Friends I almost miss the best part Nicky Hartley meditation guru meditation teacher. [00:53:40] She did her own meditation for us to try. It's about 40 minutes long so I know it's a little bit longer than we normally do but I'd love for you to sit down and try her meditation. We're going to put it up right here on the podcast. Again it's a completely separate episode so that you don't have to go through and tinker around and try and find the exact time to do the meditation. It is strictly the meditation and yet I'm so excited about it. Try meditation out. Tell us how you like it. Join the conversation over on Instagram. Follow me on Instagram at Angel podcast and I'd love for you to ask questions over there. We'll just have a lot of fun and your questions that you ask on Instagram. [00:01:38] Hello everybody. Welcome back to five minute Fridays. We're here with Kay Eck. [00:01:44] She is the author of Divorce a Love Story which is a magnificent book. If you haven't read it yet you definitely should. We are going to have her on in a couple more weeks talking about the book, talking about conscious uncoupling, talking about having more consciousness in relationships. But Kay is with us here today for our five minute Friday to just answer some big spiritual questions. So welcome Kay. [00:02:14] Thank you. Julie it's great to be here. [00:02:17] Oh good. Can you talk just a little bit about yourself and your book. [00:02:21] Yes. So I have just written a memoir called Divorce a love story the power of self-love to heal every last thing. And this has definitely been a journey for me. It is my memoir of my process of consciously uncoupling from my husband of 30 years. And so it kind of takes you through my process and how I was able to heal from that and to create a loving path forward for my family. So yeah I've been busy promoting that and getting the word out because I'm hoping that it's it's it's really something that I feel we really need right now is to bring a lot of healing around the area of relationships. [00:03:12] I'm so excited for our listeners to get to hear the episode because I know how they write how much they're just going to love it because it's not just about people going through uncoupling our conversation there was really about just relationships in general where women as mass consciousness where we are at in our relationships and where we're at with a marriage and how we see marriage changing really over the next 10 15 20 years. So that was a really fun conversation. But today we're going to kind of get to the heart of you and and your ideas and some big spiritual questions. Great. Yeah. [00:03:57] The first one is have you ever connected with an angel or loved one on the other side or had kind of a supernatural experience and can you tell us about that. [00:04:08] Oh well where do I begin. Well so I have throughout my life experienced sort of so I guess you could call them supernatural phenomenon and I feel like I have a couple of different areas that are kind of common themes. [00:04:34] So one of them is that I often get medical information about people and it's not like earth shattering and it isn't something that I have spent any time developing so right now it's kind of more of a novelty but when I'm in someone's company that I know well and they express some concern about something going on I'll get some information about what's going on. So for instance I'll get information that they need to check their lungs or that they don't have this. They actually have that or that something it's not serious and it's going to resolve itself. So I'll get that and then I have often had the experience of people who've passed coming into my field and asking to deliver messages to their loved ones. That's not a super common experience but if I have a close friend typically I will hear from their loved one and passing that on is this my is it is a gift and I've I've I've had many experiences of connection with other dimensions primarily through my higher self. And yeah so that's a that's like how I live my life. So it's hard to talk about it in a [00:06:04] Way that is episodic. Yeah yeah no that's perfect that's perfect. You [00:06:11] Know I think what we're trying to do here with the podcast is we all have an intuition right. Which Spirit shows me is really our souls thought system. [00:06:21] On the other side and what I see so much of is that talking about our intuition talking about these intuitive hits that we get is really Tabu right now in most parts of our society that we just don't talk about out how we're hearing from the other side. So kind of shedding some light on that and helping people to see that it's not just me it's not just you. Everyone has this. Everyone can learn how to develop this more is definitely one of the things that we want to do here. [00:06:56] And it's just a matter of listening isn't it and not ignoring the small still voice as I call it which is your higher self or your soul. And you know in some respects we're very tuned in to the fact that we have a soul but we we have a disconnect. We think it's something outside of ourselves that we can't have a conscious relationship with on an everyday basis. And so it's it's there it's just a matter of accepting and listening. [00:07:28] Yeah. OK. Next question. What is the purpose of life. [00:07:36] Well my current thinking on this subject is that we are aspects of God experiencing everything. So I am an aspect of God or wanting to experience life as K EK And what I've really come to understand is the reason that there's no that I that there's no judgment about good bad right wrong is because it's all a divine experience and it's you can really relate it to the relationship between a parent and child in that having children is an experience that we're really a lot of us feel called to have. And yet we create something that is of us but is also autonomous. And this is exactly how our relationship with the divine is. We get to kind of choose these paths but this is all from God's perspective that we're living. [00:08:42] Yeah. Yeah. That I couldn't have said that better. That is perfect. So then when people come in and they say well then why on earth do we have to experience pain. [00:08:56] Why do we have to experience suffering. That's such a good question of course we're all wondering that. Well I guess I would say that our human minds are the ones that want to put labels on these experiences that if you go into a dark room you don't necessarily say that that's a bad room. [00:09:23] You just say that it's a dark room. If you go into a light room you don't say it's a good room you just say it's a light room. And so when we can open up ourselves to explore and and understand that there there's no judgment of these experiences that our higher selves just wanted to experience every aspect of being human. And what that means then we can understand that. But there's also you know this concept that we don't grow unless we meet some resistance and the darkness can definitely be thought of as some resistance and we can decide how we want to interact with that whether we want to be enveloped by it or to transform it or to supersede it or to ignore it or you know we have all these choices that we our souls can grow from. So I mean it's hard to understand also that souls are autonomous and that they've asked for these experiences they know they knew what they were getting into when they decided to incarnate as a human. And so it's not really for us to judge whether those are good or bad experiences. They're just human experiences. [00:10:44] That's perfect. [00:10:47] Why are people experiencing stress anxiety and depression at such an increased rate than ever before. [00:10:59] My perception of that and this is an issue very close to my heart is that we are experiencing an increase in polarity or in duality. [00:11:16] So as our vibration lifts as a collective we become more aware of the lower densities for a period of time. So it's almost like you have like let's say you have a piece of play dough and you're pulling a top portion of the Plato up you can see that there's it's there's creating some tension between the lower caution and the upper portion. And that's kind of what we're experiencing now where we're especially amongst younger people they're coming in at a higher vibration. So the the three dimensional density of life on Earth is so much more intense for them. They really feel it. I also feel that what we are experiencing the anxiety and the depression is a clarion call to look at those feelings and to explore the roots of them so that we can set them free. So I tend to think of those things as coming up and out of the field as opposed to coming into us or being a part of us. And so I know from my own experience with anxiety and depression it was asking me to look at something look deeper sit with the fear why are you so afraid and what what. I came to was the realization that I felt alone on this planet. I didn't feel my connection with my source. I felt like I had been abandoned. I felt like I was unworthy of God's love. Of that I had no power. And so I once I uncovered those issues then I could say well is that true or is that not true. Is that my truth or is that not my truth. And so this is the process of discovery that that for me the anxiety and depression was was a gift to help me uncover [00:13:24] And I know in your next book you're talking about really getting to a place of inner freedom. And you know I gotta tell you as we've been talking I can see there being a workbook with this. Have you thought about that. [00:13:40] Wow that's interesting. I'm right at the beginning of this project and so there I am I'm seeing all kinds of possibilities. So I'm going to put that one up there. [00:13:52] Yeah. Yeah. And I can see you talking in front of just a massive amount of people and they have you know a lot of them are women. They have the workbook right in front of them and they're they're going through. [00:14:09] And you're kind of teaching and they're going through. Yeah I I think that I have really felt the calling to teach and have been doing that for a long time. [00:14:25] Just on a smaller scale and I have also felt that I have also felt a larger and larger platforms and I think that one of the reasons why that is happening for me now is because I feel very rooted and grounded in my sovereignty. And I understand how self-love plays into that. So I can I can feel a great deal of compassion for people who are still working their way toward that. So thank you so much for that I appreciate it. [00:14:59] All right. We're going to ask a couple more questions. What is the greatest quality humans possess. [00:15:08] I personally have such a huge love and compassion for humanity as a whole. It is such a singular experience. We are as individuals really entrenched in the experience of being human that we don't have the perspective of how incredible it is to be human right now. And we're like these huge fields of light and love and energy that have this very special form of the human body with all the power of our source or all the creative power of our source we can literally create something out of nothing. [00:16:01] We do it all the time without even realizing it. So we're sort of have this way of mimicking the creative expression of God in a very particular way. And I just think that's incredible. [00:16:17] It's incredible to watch. If you think about the unlimited ways in which God expresses itself it's it's just unbelievable mind boggling and overwhelming. [00:16:32] Mm hmm yes. Brings up a lot of emotion. So two of the most biggest forces of energy that we have in our experience here is creation and being creating and just really being in our life. [00:16:53] And I know there are some people in the spiritual community whose message is really to live in the beingness live in the high vibration 24/7. But when we're in the creation process we're in the doing. I do feel like we come down in the vibration a little bit and I'm just wondering how you balance that. How do you stay in flow when life gets really busy. I of course I have a little bit of distance on this since my children are now in their twenties but [00:17:31] The the busy lives are our creations. I really don't have to be that way. So that's something that we've created. But to answer the question about being in flow I think that the being in flow is a creative process. And I have always had this really close connection with my creative aspect. So I've I've always. When I was a kid I would create little sayings and little stories and games and plays and all that kind of stuff that kids do and that that ability to tap into the creative Essence has never left me. So to me the creative process is about opening up your connection to what wants to be expressed through you. So your higher self or your soul is an aspect of your Creator that wants to be expressed specifically as you. And if you could just imagine that those are like gates that you open and allow the flow to come through. And it requires stepping out of the mind and just setting the mind aside and and letting it come through the heart because when we think about high levels of expression whether it be visual arts or music or dance or performance writing all of these things we don't think of that as coming from the mind. We think of it as coming from a higher place and that higher place is the heart I see. [00:19:11] I love that. Kay for anybody who wants to connect with you online on your website and social media where can they go. So right now the best places to reach me are on Facebook either at my personal page Kay Eck. Or on the page for my book Divorce a love story and also on Instagram @KaysAwake. [00:19:41] And I know I got my copy of the book Divorce a love story on Amazon and it just I was able to start reading it on Kindle while I was waiting for the hard copy to be delivered to my house. [00:19:55] Where else can people buy the book. [00:19:57] I saw the book is available on Amazon but it's also available at Barnes and Noble dot com. [00:20:03] Fantastic and I definitely recommend it it's a must read to anybody out there. It's not just about divorce you said once it could really be called life a love story. And that's very true it's for everyone. So Kate thank you so much for being on the show today. We are just so excited and everybody stay tuned for Kay's upcoming interview a longer in-depth interview about the book about life about kids about everything. [00:20:31] So thank you Kay. I told a few people prior to publishing this episode that the next guest would be Dan Moore. The response was unanimous, but the inflection varied: "oh man, I gotta hear that guy."Dan Moore took a break from his recent retirement to come talk to me about his small-town beginnings, teaching techniques, advice on jazz band, and his thoughts on marching band. Dan's recent endeavors include a larger focus on publishing his method book, original compositions, and arrangements, clinician services, and writing music and drill for marching band (and no, he doesn't just write "Dan Moore" type shows!).You can find Dan's work by searching "Daniel Moore Music" on facebook, JW Pepper, and Sheet Music Plus.I hope you enjoy this episode!

Welcome to the inaugural episode of "Sequel this" starring David "Willhelm Scream" Rodriguez and some slouch named Marc. Growing up in the mean streets of Naperville Illinois (insert context here) in the 1980's both Dave and Marc spent a great amount of time renting movies together and a great amount more constructing dream sequels to said films, some of which would later come to fruition. Throughout the run of this show Dave and Marc will pitch each other their ideas for sequels to films, sometimes T.V. shows, and of course the dreaded remake, reboot, or any grey area variation of the sort. It should be noted, neither of them know what they're doing and are not professionals and you should not try this at home. Today they will be talking about Ghostbusters 3....

Silver Surfers: Internet Use by Older AdultsWe reported on a very interesting infographic recently on the Genealogy Gems blog called Interesting Stats: In 2012 Baby Boomers aged 47-65 spent an average of 27 hours a week on the Internet Of the seniors that are online, one in three are using social media. A big change from just back in 2009 when only 13% of seniors online were using social media. In fact 1 in 5 Twitter users are over 50 49% of online seniors have a Facebook account Seniors aren't just socializing, they are shopping too. 59% of seniors online have made a purchase online in the last 3 months Here's what you had to say on the : From Sheri: "Lisa, My sister and I met you at RootsTech this year. We're already planning next year's trip! I read the article about silver surfers and just wanted to say that when I was a kid (Fairbanks, Alaska) we had party-line phones, one TV station! My mother wrote letters to her family in Idaho regularly and long distance phone calls were very rare! I'm a baby boomer and have always been interested in technology. I do most research online with Ancestry, Fold3, FamilySearch, etc. I haven't jumped into the blogging pool but who knows! I'm currently starting to work on suggestions from your Google Earth CDs, putting together family tours. Love your podcasts. You are my favorite "source". Sheri" From Diane: "Thanks for the article about the silver surfers. I saw you when you spoke to the San Diego Genealogical Society and learned a lot. I am a major social media user. I am on many FB groups, use Twitter, Pinterest and have my own genealogy blog. I am a baby boomer. Party lines were in use when I was a kid and for parts of my growing up our household didn't even have a phone. Here is a link to ." From Sandee: "When I was a kid, we communicated mostly by letter -- which soon fell by the wayside because they took so long to write, were full of scribble-outs and add-ins, and had a long turnaround time. Phone calls were for really important stuff and emergencies. When I went to college, my parents gave me a tape recorder and several REELS of tape so I could send oral "letters" home (which I don't think I ever did). My dad read the Dick Tracy comic strip and said that someday we really would have wrist-worn telephones and would be able to see each other as well as talk. In spite of all the complaints about constant contact via cell phones and text messages and emails, modern-day communication seems to foster friendships." Check out Candace says: "When I was young we had a party line with 8 families. We weren't supposed to listen in to other conversations, but we all knew which ring indicated the best news." Candace's memories remind me of the Andy Griffith show! From Lynn: "You asked about seniors and 'net usage. I mostly use e-mail and delight in being able to stay in touch on a daily basis with my 94 year old cousin in Michigan. She is the only person in her assisted living facility with a computer.” Thank you to our sponsors: MAILBOX: Natalie in TX has success with one of Lisa's Tips: “I attended your 3 classes this past weekend at the Houston Genealogical Forum and I really enjoyed them as I do all of your classes. I have done a lot of work already on newspapers for about 20 years with interlibrary loan and traveling to libraries and newspaper offices out of town. My small towns' newspapers so far have hardly shown up online but slowly that is changing. So when I finished your class I used some of your Google search tips on some newspaper sites. Some things worked, others didn't but one thing I'm glad you mentioned was do not overlook was if a hit came up on a newer date, not to overlook it. I went to the Old Fulton Postcards website and he mainly has New York newspapers on his site but he also has The Rogersview Review from Rogersville, Tennessee. So I found several hits on that site but the one I wanted to tell you about was I was looking for my 3Great Grandfather Williamson Tucker and there were a few hits but one was in 1995 and the other was in 2001. So I clicked on the 1995 article and it was a picture of New Hope Baptist Church and the first two sentences said "New Hope Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1833. It was given in a land grant by Williamson Tucker in memory of William C. Bailey." Then the 2001 issue which was a listing for Hawkins County churches and had New Hope on it, and it gave a little more info that William Bailey gave land to the church but never made a deed for it. He then died and then my ancestor Williamson Tucker acquired the land from the Baileys and then deeded it to the church. Wow, I did not know that, and I probably would have skipped over those two hits because they were so late dated. So thank you for the tip! I've been writing a paper on my grandfather the Rev. Ellis Birl McLain who was a Methodist minister who lived in many places and so far I have found him in 15 different newspapers in six states so I really do know the importance of searching newspapers.” Linda from South Australia writes in about Dealing with Chaos: “I just read your advice on ‘dealing with the chaos' (a problem that has been tormenting me for ages) and a very bright light went on in my head when I read your suggestion for using Evernote to store things for future research. I use MS OneNote to store some of my loose bits of genealogy info, but I haven't organized them well. I'll use your tip – the simple idea of having a ‘future research' section for each family makes me feel better already! The harder part will be putting something in there, leaving it for later, and then going back to what I was looking for in the first place – I'm easily distracted! Especially when someone I'm NOT looking for turns out to be more interesting than the one I AM looking for.” Del in California has been busy using Google Earth for Genealogy: “I finally got around to watching the Google Earth video CD I purchased from you last January when you were here. I have been doing the map overlays, which is really a neat feature…It served a practical use, as I have a plat map of the whole of Bent County, Colorado upon which I have marked all the locations where we own mineral rights (passed down from my grandfather). I can then use the transparency feature to compare the holdings with the actual topography. I also have overlaid plat maps of various ancestors who had original land patents in Indiana, Colorado, and Ohio. A couple of the ancestors donated land for cemeteries, which I have visited and are visible on Google Earth and marked on the overlay maps. Fun stuff…would not have been able to actually make it work without the CD.” book GEM: Project Lizzie – An Interview with Ron PloofWe're all working on our own family tree, but have you ever considered working on someone elses? Someone you've never met and you don't know their descendants? Storyteller Ron Ploof is here to share how and why he took on such an endeavor, and some of his successes and challenges along the way which he is documenting on his new website Project Lizzie at In this interview we head back to 1976 when Ron was 13 years old, and helping his uncle who had just bought a house in Massachusetts. Exploring as 13 year olds do, Ron found something intriguing in the attic of that house – a stack of 99 postcards tucked away. He's held onto them for the past 38 years. Ron was always fascinated with the pictures on the front of the cards, but in 2012, he started studying the stories on their backs. And that's when he could see that 86 of them were addressed to a Mrs. Lizzie Milligan and postmarked between 1904 and 1925. He has spent the past year-and-a-half trying to learn as much about her, including a trip from California to Massachusetts to find her gravesite. Ton started publishing Lizzie's story online in February of this year. Ron has asked his readers to join in the hunt, which begs the question: Why should his readers care? It's a very important question, because we all have had a non-genealogist relative ask us the question: Why should I care? Even when they are related to the person! If we can share the why, we can more successfully share the journey. 2/24/18 UPDATE: Read the final installment on Profile America — Wednesday, September 17th On this date in 1787, the Constitutional Convention wrapped up in Philadelphia with the delegates accepting the document and sending it on to the states for ratification. Less than two years later, the new U.S. government had to take out a loan. This week in 1789, Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton was in negotiations to borrow nearly $192,000 from the Bank of New York and the Bank of North America. The money was needed to pay the salaries of President Washington and the members of the first Congress. The loan was obtained in February 1790 and paid off in June. Today, the president's salary is $400,000 a year — more than twice the amount of the first loan — and the debt of the 50 united state governments is around $1.15 trillion. Sources: Kane's Famous First Facts, 1104, 3804 Coping and Exceling through Techological Change Recently I was teaching an online class, and one of the students was stumped because the class materials said to use the Advanced search link on Google.com and it wasn't there. She stopped worked and posted that she couldn't do it because the link wasn't there. This is a perfect example that we really need to cultivate our problem solving skills in today's constantly changing online environment. I totally get that it can be frustrating to visit a familiar website or refer to something in a book (or a class!) and find that things are not as they used to be. In this case, Google removed the "Advanced Search" link from the Web Search and Image Search home pages. And I've had situations where I went to teach an iPad class, and the night before a new operating system was released changing practically everything! However, if we come to expect change then we won't have to be quite so surprised and frustrated when we run into it. And of course in most cases that change is really an attempt by the website to improve and evolve, although that can seem debatable when it's something you enjoy or depend on. When you run up against change, you are better equipped than most to deal with it. As Genealogists the sleuthing skills we have honed become our greatest assets! The quickest way to determine what's going on when something changes online (which again can happen nearly every day) is to just "Google It!" After reading the student's message, that's exactly what I did, because I didn't have the answer on the top of my head either. So I went to Google.com and searched on: google advanced search no longer on home page. The results quickly led me to the answer: At both the Image Search page (google.com/imghp) and the Web search page (www.google.com) the Advanced Search has been moved to "Settings." Simply click "Settings" in the bottom right corner and you will find "Advanced Search" there as one of the options. The good news is that chances are, if we've noticed a change, others are already talking about it online, and often will have already shared the answer. "Googling it" is often the easiest way to determine what's going on, so that you can get on with your family history work. So until we meet here again, get on with your family history work!
