How red is the ocean of shooters and is there room for innovation in what most consider a wildly competitive and oversaturated space? Roby John, CEO and Co-Founder at Supergaming (a studio building an indo-futurism mobile battle royale called Indus, check out their beta here) and Nikolaj Nyholm, CEO and Co-Founder at Scattershot (a studio building a competitive PvP battle royale shooter called Project Athena) both believe there's disruption yet to come. Your host Alexandra Takei, Director of Business at Ruckus Games, and her crew discuss the macro-state of the shooter market across PC, console, and mobile as well as the pockets of opportunities across sub genres, demos, geos, economics, and development processes. We also take a trip down memory lane, and ask our guests if they were to have one feature in their game that defined generations of shooters to come (i.e. a modern day push forward combat), what might it be, and why is it important? A kingpin genre of the video game industry, this is not an episode to miss! We'd also like to thank Overwolf for making this episode possible! The lovely Tina Merritt joins us once again to talk all about her journey to the Grand Canyon. Not only that but Tina went to hike one of the most difficult trails out there, the R3 or Rim to Rim to Rim. That's going from the south rim of the Canyon to the North Rim and back to the South Rim. Just shy of 50 miles, Tina talks about her experience with Project Athena, heat induced hallucinations, and a SNAFU at the North Rim which resulted in a 10pm dinner with a 12am wake up time. Tina's hard work and resilience training over the years has paid off since she was able to conquer this beast of a trail. Congratulations, Tina! We

Our 6th season of The Teamwork Advantage kicks off with a true superstar from the extreme athletics world, Robyn Benincasa. Robyn is the author of “How Winning Works” in which she talks about how she paralleled professions; being a firefighter for San Diego County and competing in the world of extreme athletics.Robyn talks about how, as a true competitor, her team was dropped in outlandish places like the jungles of Borneo. Her team then had to traverse over 600 miles, using no motorized transportation, with only a paper map and a compass for navigation. Listen as she tells stories of what she, and her competitors, encountered. If you think you have it tough, imagine that, if just one of your team members gets sick or decides the challenge is too tough, the whole team is disqualified. Compare that with the difficulty of being a firefighter and understanding when someone else on the team has a stronger proficiency of a task or can relate to a patient better and you have to step back. Robyn's ability to articulate these events will make this one of your favorite episodes of all time! Robyn is also the founder of “Project Athena,” a foundation that helps survivors of tragedy regain control of their lives. Whether it is surviving cancer, or the loss of a limb, she helps build powerful teams of individuals that then turn their setbacks into comebacks. What a way to kick off our 6th season of The Teamwork Advantage! AmiSights: Financing the Future For Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs
On this episode, Ami Kassar interviews Gail Davis, founder and president of GDA Speakers, about managing a speaking bureau during the pandemic and what she learned. Gail Davis' decades of experience in corporate marketing and event management served as the launchpad for GDA Speakers. Before establishing the company in 1999, she spent 20 years managing the events of the Dallas-based global technology conglomerate─Electronic Data Systems (EDS)─founded by Ross Perot. While at EDS she discovered Nando Parrado, a heroic survivor of the 1972 Andes plane crash. Parrado presented an unforgettable speech at EDS' marquee event. Shortly after his successful keynote, Parrado signed an exclusive agreement with Davis as it was her efforts that convinced him to share his story after so many years. It was this partnership with Parrado which eventually anchored the creation of GDA Speakers. Davis is credited with bringing Parrado's harrowing experience to life in The New York Times best-selling book, Miracle in the Andes. Twenty-three years later, GDA Speakers continues to represent Parrado. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Andes crash, his story will be told through the upcoming Netflix movie, The Snow Society. Davis continues to discover new talent and under her passionate leadership, GDA Speakers has vetted and curated highly qualified speakers who they deliver to clients with confidence. Her successful business approach led to her being named the 2011-2012 President of the International Association of Speakers Bureaus (IASB). Previously developing new and improved education programs in her role as an IASB Governor, she has won numerous awards including the 2015 John Palmer Award, 2011 President's Award, 2010 Above and Beyond Award, and the 2007 Pace Setter Award. Davis is a frequent guest on podcasts sharing entrepreneurial insights, lessons in innovative leadership, and her vast knowledge of the speaker industry. Davis is an active member of the Entrepreneur Organization and a supporter of numerous community organizations. She was the co-chair of the 2014 Soup's On! Luncheon, the major fundraising force of The Stewpot Alliance - with that luncheon being the most successful to date. Named to the University of Oklahoma Gaylord College Board of Visitors, she went on to be awarded the 2018 Gaylord Distinguished Alumni Award. She was also honored by the Dallas Business Journal as one of Dallas' Top 25 Women in Business. Being drawn to the mountains, Davis enjoys hiking and has recently traversed 43 miles in Zion National Park. Merging her love for hiking and serving the community, she has also hiked the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim as a part of a fundraiser for Project Athena and has walked over 120 miles on the Camino de Santiago hike in Spain. She is an Oklahoma native, graduating from the Gaylord College at the University of Oklahoma, and currently resides in Dallas, Texas. Recorded 01/31/2022.

Power of Disruption: Gail Davis, a leader in the international keynote speaker industry, joins host Gregg Garrett for a discussion on the changes occurring in her industry as well as how she's driven her firm to emerge as a stable leader post-COVID. She of course shares her Top Three who include individuals that help her not sweat the small stuff, remind her that clear is kind, how to manage the tension between work and other facets of life, and those who help to fill a capability void. And you have to hear what she has to say about keeping focused on the future as “it only gets better.” About Gail Davis Davis' decades of corporate marketing and events management were the launch pad for GDA in 1999. Before founding the company, she spent two decades with the global technology conglomerate Electronic Data Systems (EDS, which became part of Hewlett Packard Enterprise and now operates as MicroFocus and DXC Technology) in Dallas. While at EDS, she discovered Nando Parrado, a heroic survivor of the 1972 Andes plane crash that took the lives of many rugby players. Parrado was the keynote speaker for the company's marquee event. Based on the success of those early corporate events, Parrado signed an exclusive agreement with Davis, as it was her efforts that convinced him to share his story after so many years. It was the partnership with Parrado that eventually anchored the creation of GDA. Today, Davis continues to discover new talent and take the professional speaking industry by storm. She is credited with bringing Parrado's harrowing experience to life in the New York Times best-selling book, Miracle in the Andes. It is written as a first-person account of the Andes plane crash. Most recently, at her encouragement, Parrado lent his personal account to the acclaimed new documentary, “I am Alive,” featured on The History Channel. Under her passionate leadership, GDA Speakers has vetted and curated a number of highly qualified speakers who they trust and deliver with confidence. In the first 17 years, they assembled a database of over 5,000 speakers. Then in order to add more value to their clients they cut the list in half. Only featuring and working with the top speakers in each of the many categories sought by their clients. Her successful business approach and passion have also impacted the industry. Davis was the 2011-2012 President of the International Association of Speakers Bureaus (IASB). Previously, she served as an IASB Governor where she developed new education programs for members worldwide and drew increased investment in the industry. Davis is a member of the Entrepreneur Organization. She is also a supporter of numerous community organizations. She was named to the University of Oklahoma Gaylord College Board of Visitors in 2014. She was the co-chair of the 2014 Soup's On! Luncheon, which is the major fundraising force of The Stewpot Alliance benefiting the programs of The Stewpot in Dallas. The 2014 Luncheon was the most successful luncheon to date. In 2011, the Dallas Business Journal honored her as one of Dallas' Top 25 Women in Business. Davis recently hiked the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim as a part of a fundraiser for Project Athena. She is a graduate of the Gaylord College at the University of Oklahoma where she was honored as a Distinguished Alumni in 2018. A native of Oklahoma, Davis resides in Dallas. Robyn Benincasa is an expert on leadership and team building. Her expertise comes not as a result of classroom education or a lucrative corporate career, but through decades of extreme challenges and relying on teamwork. She was part of America's first all- female fire crew, and has spent years battling blazes alongside a team. She's completed numerous adventure races around the world. From the jungles of Borneo to remote locations in Tibet, there are few places Robyn has not conquered. But just when she was at her peak, Robyn collapsed in a race. A crushing diagnosis followed, effectively ending Robyn's way of life.Rather than accept the diagnosis as an end to challenges, Robyn accepted it as a new challenge. She went on to earn a new world record and launch a non-profit to help other Survivors of medical or emotional trauma make a comeback in life. Project Athena adopts Robyn's expertise in endurance racing, teamwork, and, resilience to guide others through their challenges. Listen in as Robyn shares her stories of training with Mark Burnett and former Navy SEALS, how being fired opened up opportunity, her lessons on teamwork, and how Project Athena provides opportunities for people to change their entire life trajectories.

Approximately 16 months ago, Eric and eight others successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania (Africa). A few days after the climb, Eric checked himself into the hospital after dealing with discomfort in his back and chest. Little did he know, he was dealing with nine pulmonary embolisms in both his heart and lungs caused by the swift change in elevation. At the spry age of 56, Eric credits his fitness level for keeping him alive today and also goes on to share a few amazing stories about what he's currently doing (and has already done) to help support several charitable organizations inside and outside of the CrossFit community. Show Notes: 0:00 - Intro 1:27 - Eric's livelihood, his fitness background pre-CrossFit, and how he ultimately got into CrossFit at the age of 50. 14:48 - Eric's crazy idea to do 52 weeks of Murph and how he (and several others) followed through with it, regardless of where he was traveling. 21:41 - Eric's incredible story about how he almost died after summiting Mount Kilimanjaro in March 2018, and how he credits CrossFit for saving his life. 33:48 - What Eric's training, nutrition, recovery, and mindset looks like now, post-health scare. 42:49 - How Eric's biomarkers have improved since doing CrossFit/changing his nutrition, which has ultimately allowed him to get off of cholesterol medicine and blood thinners. 47:30 - Eric's work with Project Athena and how he continues to carry on the legacy of his late wife by helping women(and now men as well) recovering from medical/traumatic setbacks. 52:06 - Other charitable events Eric has helped incorporate through CrossFit including developing a scholarship fund for his late nephew. 1:00:00 - Rapid Fire Questions

Adventure race champion Robyn Benincasa delved into her paddling passion by entering and excelling in a kayak ultra endurance race several hundred miles long. Several world records and hip replacements later, she is still going strong. It is her core philosophy that once you find something that you’re good at, pursue it with every ounce of your being. Since she’s channeled much of her boundless energy into her foundation, Project Athena, that helps women who’ve survived medical setbacks, this is great news for them. Benincasa will describe the transformative power of adventure and persistence in this episode.Lessons: 1. Make the effort to find your strengths and continue down that path. 2. To bypass the victim mentality, always be working towards a big goal. 3. Success is driven, not by money, but the desire to fully realize what you’re capable of.
If there is a difference between information and bits we had better find it soon. The bit-count is bounding upward, no one dares throw anything away, and once "search" supplants "organize" there is no going back. Information may or may not want to be free, but it wants to be in motion, so much so that ISPs see their future in movie rentals and the speed of light determines how far away your trade submission servers can be from the Exchange and still do micro-arbitrage. Like a gas, information has to be collected, purified, and compressed to be of value, so any leak, impurity, or loss of containment is a loss of value, per se. The street price of drugs has a more stable floor than the street price of stolen data, the percentage of attack tools that are privately held is rising, and the workfactor for information defense is the integral of the workfactor for information offense, yet we do not have the quantitative tools to value our information. That is possibly the key -- quantitative information risk management that is on par with quantitative financial risk management.
