In this episode of Jump Start with Jeff, Dr. Jeff Buske, founder of Limitless Dentists, dives deep into a powerful and transformative topic: managing stress through meditation versus sedation. Drawing from his personal journey and experiences with high-achieving professionals, Dr. Buske explores how dentists and other busy professionals can unlock untapped potential by learning to handle life's chaos with clarity and purpose. Dr. Buske begins by highlighting the ever-growing pressures in modern life and the unhealthy coping mechanisms many of us turn to, from alcohol to workaholism. With his trademark energy and insight, he contrasts these destructive habits with the life-changing benefits of meditation, which he describes not only as a pathway to peace but as a method to access unparalleled personal power. He explains how meditation enhances creativity, problem-solving, and communication, ultimately leading to increased productivity and profitability. Listeners will gain insights into why meditation is crucial for expanding their capacity to handle stress. Dr. Buske introduces the concept of “capacity problems,” where challenges often feel insurmountable because our internal bandwidth hasn't been expanded to meet them. Through relatable anecdotes and practical advice, he reveals how meditation can turn even the busiest schedules into opportunities for growth, offering a fresh perspective on making space for stillness and reflection. Whether you're a seasoned professional feeling the weight of leadership or simply someone navigating life's daily stresses, this episode offers actionable tools to create transformative change. Dr. Buske shares his own evolution with meditation, debunks myths about the practice, and provides encouragement for anyone intimidated by the idea of starting their journey. Although having rock music hardwired to nearly every thread of his sonic DNA, Shihad frontman Jon Toogood is also compelled to expose himself through calmer means. For a man best known for songs like My Mind's Sedate, The General Electric and Sleepeater, Toogood's decision to release his first solo album as an acoustic body of work came as a surprise to most, but not those who follow the man not the music.Following a tumultuous period of his life wrought with loss, sorrow and isolation, Toogood turned to his long-standing love of music, more for personal reasons than any other, and sat down to commit his feelings and fears to paper. These songs were originally never intended to be heard in the public domain but after letting close friends and representatives listen to his solo work Toogood was convinced to assemble his songs into an album so that the world could share in his triumph and tragedy. It was not a decision made lightly, but he relented on his initial misgivings and packaged the songs together to form Last Of The Lonely Gods, which was released last Friday. To celebrate the release Toogood is also headed to Australia next month for a run of solo shows starting at Mo's Desert Clubhouse on Thursday, November 14.HEAVY caught up with Toogood for more details."I love this record," he shared, smiling. "It's heavy in what I'm singing about… I'm singing about heavy shit. I'm a 53-year-old who lost his Mum during COVID when I was locked down in Melbourne, and she died in Wellington, New Zealand, so I had to say goodbye on the phone which I found really sad. I wanted to be there with my Mum and couldn't so it was tough. After that, I got stuck in New Zealand away from my wife and kids for three and a half months because there was an Omicron outbreak that happened while I was on tour. There was no flights going between countries, so I got stuck there and that was pretty traumatic. It was traumatic for my kids and wife as well because they were locked down in Melbourne, and she couldn't get any help so she was losing her mind, I was losing my mind. Then we finally made the move back to New Zealand and I caught COVID. The thing that happened to me was I've got pre-existing tendinitis - so ringing in my ears - which is basically from a life of playing heavy music and getting too close to a china cymbal. I've always been able to deal with it. I will go and see a band, and it will be loud, but if I take it easy the next day it will fade into the background. But this… two weeks after I caught COVID I got woken up out of a dream with a car alarm going off in my head. It was like I'd been to see Motorhead and stuck my head in the PA. On that first night, I didn't sleep for 36 hours. I ended up in the hospital, with doctors having to knock me out. It's literally like a car alarm going off in your head really loud."In the full interview, Jon talks more about the personal situations that led to him wanting to write a softer, mellower album, more about Last Of The Lonely Gods musically, why now is the right time for his first solo album, utilising his voice in different ways to suit acoustic music, if there will be more solo albums or if this is a one-off, the upcoming Australian tours and what to expect, what he gets out of smaller shows like these as opposed to full band sets and more.Tickets for Australian shows jontoogood.com.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Alice liked to be the boss. Her doctor had other ideas. By hardtimes x. Listen to the Podcast at Steamy Stories. Alice was not used to being kept waiting. She was a busy woman, for Christ's sake! She looked over to the young receptionist who instantly turned bright red and tried to look busy. Alice had already given the poor girl a hard time. twice. Not that she was in a position to do anything about it, of course.Alice looked at her watch again. A whole minute had passed since the last time. Didn't they realise she had a company to run?! Her foot began to twitch. Not a good sign, as anyone who worked for her was only too aware. It didn't help that, as far as Alice was concerned, this whole thing was a total waste of time. She was 35 and kept fit with regular visits to the gym. She had never had a day off sick in her life. What did she need a medical for? But the board had insisted. All senior management. No exceptions. The receptionist's phone rang. Another glance at the watch. Another minute had passed. Fuck them! They're a bunch of idiots anyway. Alice stood and headed for the door. The receptionist put down the phone. ‘Doctor Williams will see you now.' Every gram of her innate arrogance demanded her to continue her departure without so much as an acknowledgment to the receptionist. Hence the inordinate pause as Alice froze with her hand on the handle and the receptionist dare not breathe, before Alice turned, strode across to the other side of the reception, and launched herself through the door into Williams' consulting room. ‘Alice!' welcomed a somewhat startled Dr Williams. ‘Do take a seat.' ‘Ms Rawlinson, if you please.' She sat on the chair at the side of his desk. The foot still twitched. ‘Ms Rawlinson. Of course,' corrected a suitably admonished Williams, although he held her stare unflinchingly. How dare he?! No one held her stare. No one! Having been kept waiting for this charade to begin, Alice was in no mood to be challenged. A familiar burst of adrenaline shot through her body as her hackles rose. She wasted no time in making it clear to Williams that she did not have the time for this stupidity. She was perfectly healthy, and she had a business to run. She was here under duress. He should keep the examination to the essentials only, and conduct even those with the utmost efficiency. Williams allowed Alice to complete her diatribe. At which point he carefully placed his Mont Blanc pen on his pad, leant back in his chair, and looked at her patiently. The audacity! Didn't he know who she was? She wasn't just some junior manager; she was the CEO for fuck's sake! The good doctor was well aware of who she was but was not easily cowed. Williams gave a speech of his own, explaining that he also had a job to do which, this particular afternoon, required him to give her a thorough medical examination on the instructions of her board. It would take as long as was required. Her foot stopped twitching, her face flushed, and Alice became conscious of a warm tingling between her legs. She ignored it and, in a further attempt to take control, began to tell Williams what she thought he required. He quickly interrupted and assured her that he knew what he needed to ask. And so began the medical, with a raft of questions about her lifestyle and diet and family history and; In her life Alice always took control. In business meetings she made sure that she led them, regardless of who's the meeting was. That way she influenced the discussion and got what she wanted. In the office she was the boss, and no one questioned her decisions. It would be the same in her private life, if she had one. Occasionally, when away on business, she would role play subservient with some unsuspecting one night fuck she'd pick up in the hotel bar, but in reality even then she directed the whole thing. But here, with each personal question Williams asked, the balance of power shifted further in his favour. There was nothing she could do to wrest it back. This was not a circumstance Alice relished. Eventually it proved too much. Alice stood and picked up her bag. ‘You must have enough now, doctor. I have to be going.' ‘Sit down.' Williams didn't even look up from his notes. Alice froze, stunned by the man's presumptuousness. 'I said, sit down. I haven't finished yet.' 'Doctor Williams,' began Alice with as much authority in her voice as she could muster. 'Sit!' barked Williams. Alice sat. Her knickers were damp. Absurd! She put it down to the fact that she hadn't enjoyed any cock for nearly a month. God, she'd probably feel the same with the office junior right now. Now, there was a thought. A few more questions and the interrogation was over. But if Alice thought her position was about to improve, she was mistaken. 'Take off your clothes, please,' said Williams as he moved over to the scales. 'Is that really necessary?' queried Alice. Williams remained silent, adjusting the scales. Alice kicked off her shoes and removed her trousers and blouse. 'Everything.' Such was the authority in Williams' voice that Alice unclipped her bra and slipped off her knickers without further question. For the first time in her life Alice found herself stark naked in the presence of, and at the instruction of, a fully clothed man. A warm tingling began again between her legs. This time she chose not to ignore it. She tried to remind herself this was a medical, that the doctor was just doing his job. But this vulnerability was a new sensation for her. and she liked it. For the first time she looked at Williams properly. and she liked that too. Similar age to her. Nice arse. Good body. Obviously works out. With the utmost professionalism, Williams recorded her weight. When it came to her height, as she stood against the wall, she stood tall, thrusting out her full, shapely breasts. But still nothing. Not one casual brush of the hand. Not even a glance at her naked body. Never mind. It was only a thought. 'Stand over there, please,' Williams said, pointing to the centre of the room as he returned to his desk and made some notes. 'Can I put my clothes back on?' Alice asked. 'No.' After what seemed like an eternity, Williams swung round in his chair, steepled his fingers under his chin, and cast his eyes up and down Alice's still naked body. She felt his gaze over her every curve. The tingling spread from between her legs through the rest of her. 'When did you last have sex, Ms Rawlinson?' He broke the silence. 'I beg your pardon?' Alice was somewhat aghast. 'I asked when you last had sex.' Alice hesitated. 'About a month ago.' 'Is that normal for you?' 'Not at all. It's just been a busy of late. What with.' 'So how often do you normally have sex?' interrupted Williams. 'I don't know. Once or twice a week, I guess.' 'And do you prefer to fuck or be fucked.' Alice struggled to decide whether such questions were ethical, but her pussy liked it. She could feel herself getting wetter. 'I like to be in control.' Williams explained himself. 'You see, Ms Rawlinson, your board feel that you are somewhat over authoritative and have asked me to investigate this further. I was just wondering whether it was linked to sexual frustration, but, based on your answers, I'd say not.' 'My board are prats,' retorted Alice. 'That's as may be, but I am obliged to report back to them on their concerns.' 'You're going to report back to them on my sex life?!' 'No. I don't think that will be necessary. I think it is just a matter of you being an overbearing control freak.' 'What?! How dare you say.' Again, Williams didn't allow Alice to finish her objection. 'But what I can do is try to address how that manifests itself in your behaviour.' At this, Williams stood and began to circle Alice. She felt his eyes exploring every inch of her body as her did so. Her heart raced. 'Are you cold,' he asked. 'No,' she replied. 'It's just that your nipples are erect.' At that he took each nipple with a thumb and forefinger, and rolled them around. Alice gasped. 'Beautiful,' he added. Alice wasn't sure if she was hearing him correctly. 'Sorry?' 'I said your nipples are beautiful. Solid, unyielding.' At that he released them, supported the weight of her left breast in his hand, and placed a soft kiss on the nipple. He ran his tongue around it, and he kissed it once again. Williams stepped away. Alice wanted more. He moved behind her. She felt his hands cup her buttocks. 'Now, I could recommend that the board send you on an interpersonal skills course.' 'Go to hell,' exploded Alice. She felt the full force of Williams' hand as he slapped her arse. She yelped. 'What did you say?' 'I said, go to hell.' A second, more forceful slap landed on her other cheek. She cried out with pain and felt a heavy throbbing in her pussy. God, she needed cock! Instead she felt soothing kisses calming her stinging buttocks. No hands. Just the light touch of his lips with each kiss. 'There is an alternative, of course,' he said between kisses. 'But I'm not sure you could see it through.' She felt him run his tongue over one buttock. 'Try me.' 'You said you liked to be in control.' He ran his tongue over her other cheek. 'Yes.' 'I think it's a fear that leads you to that.' Alice closed her eyes and wallowed in the tender attentions being given to her still smarting bottom. The contrast was thrilling. 'You need to try ceding control to someone else. Immersion therapy, if you like. I suggest you try it in your personal life before business, for obvious reasons. And, seeing time seems to be short for you, I recommend a jump in the deep end. Specifically, your sex life.' Alice screamed as Williams sunk his teeth into her arse, and she nearly came. 'Do you think you could do that?' 'I could try.' Williams moved round in front of Alice. He was totally naked. Her eyes fell immediately onto his cock, large and proud before her, and then on to the leather collar and leash he held in his hand. 'On your knees,' he ordered. Alice fought her habitual objection and knelt. Her breathing deepened. Williams took his cock in his hand and rubbed the tip against her lips. Alice opened her mouth and felt his length slip to the back of her throat. Satisfyingly broad as he was long, he filled her mouth, and she sucked on him greedily as he secured the collar around her neck. She held his balls in one hand, firm and full, and fondled them. She began to move on and off of him, slowly, teasingly, running her tongue around his tip each time before going back onto him and slipping her forefinger on behind his balls to tickle his perineum as she did so. He moaned with pleasure. Then, quite without warning, he grabbed her head with both hands and, holding her firm, he furiously thrust his erection in and out of her mouth, his balls slapping on her chin, his bell end reaching deep into her throat causing her to gag a little each time, until, equally suddenly, he pulled right out of her and pushed her to the floor. 'Bastard!' she cried. Williams grabbed the leash and pulled Alice up onto her feet. He held the leash high, forcing Alice onto tiptoes. His face was right up against hers. He kissed her softly. His naked body brushed lightly against hers. She could feel his chest against her breasts and the tip of his cock, still damp from her mouth, against her stomach. Then she felt his hand slip between her legs. She parted them as far as she was able given her position, and his finger slipped inside her. She was sodden. 'Do you want me to fuck you?' 'Yes.' 'Yes, what?' 'Yes, please.' 'Better.' Williams led Alice to his desk and pushed her over it. Once again she parted her legs. This time she felt Williams tease her arsehole briefly with his cock, before slipping down and into her hungry pussy. Despite his size, he penetrated her easily, filling her as satisfyingly as he had her mouth. With one hand holding her back onto him by her hip and the other reaching round to finger her clit, Williams began to plunge himself in and out of her. She could feel his inches as they moved from her entrance to her depths and back again. Alice gripped him hard inside her. She could feel her pussy throbbing and tension coiling within her. Williams built up the speed of his fucking, and with it the force of each thrust. She felt as though he was going to split her apart. His balls slapped against her thighs. His finger worked her aroused clit with increasing pressure. She could feel her body start to convulse and her grip on his shaft tighten even more as the pulsating of her pussy built, and he too must have sensed her imminent climax. 'Do you want to come,' he asked without pausing his motions. 'Yes,' she cried as best she was able. 'Yes, what?' 'Yes, please.' 'Denied.' 'What?!' Once again Williams slapped Alice's naked arse. She screamed out. 'Do you understand?' asked Williams. 'Yes.' 'Yes, what?' 'Yes, sir.' Despite his denial, Williams continued to fuck her mercilessly. She could feel her pussy spasm as her ecstasy increased. She fought it with all her will power, but it was growing undeniable. She thought she was not going to be able to hold back when, suddenly, Williams exploded into her, flooding her vagina with spunk. He grabbed both her hips and pounded out his final thrusts. She gripped him tightly inside her, milking him of every ounce of come he had. It was nearly enough to tip her over the top, but he pulled out of her before she too could come. Alice lay, exhausted, spread over his desk. He tugged the leash. She stood, her hair falling matted over her face. 'Lick me clean,' he demanded. Alice went to her knees and licked her juices off of his shaft, sucking out the final drops of come. Task complete, Williams was once again leading Alice by her leash. This time to his examination table behind a curtain. Following his instructions, she lay on her back upon it. He took her wrists and raised her arms above her head, stretching her up breasts, topped with her engorged nipples, and secured her wrists into two leather straps on the wall at the end of the table. Standing beside her, Williams looked deep into her eyes before placing his lips upon hers and kissing her with a sensuous passion. The kiss lasted eternity as his hands softly caressed her breast and his thumb ran around her nipple, before moving on down over her stomach and her mound. The tip of his finger touched lightly on her clit. He stroked it, barely discernibly, as he moved down to kiss her succulent breasts. Alice groaned with pleasure. 'Close your eyes,' he said, 'and open your legs'. Alice raised her knees and spread her legs, to reveal her dripping pussy between them. She closed her eyes and lost herself in what was to follow. Warm breath on her pussy. Tender fingers parting her lips. One gentle kiss delivered onto her moist flesh within. Her lips were parted further, and she luxuriated in the sensation of tongue being run up the left lip, on over her clit, and down along the right lip. Once, twice, three times. And, after a fourth, of it moving slowly, dead centre, along the length of her slit. She lost herself further to the sensation of her clit being suckled and flicked. She ached to feel tongue dipping inside of her, and she didn't have to wait long. Sedate laps, each pressing deeper than the last, until finally penetrating her pussy, in and out, eventually to be replaced by searching fingers, first one, then a second, stroking inside of her as her clit was once again suckled. She gripped the fingers within her and lifted her hips as high as she could manage to improve the angle of their penetration. The tension was building within her once again. She could feel the pulsing of her pussy and the tingling spreading on through her body. She tried to deny herself a while longer to heighten the climax when it finally came, but the ecstasy became to much as a third finger slipped into her arse, and Alice screamed out in heavenly orgasm like never before. Alice lay on the table, wrists still bound, breasts still high, legs spread, breathless and satisfied. She opened her eyes to see the cute receptionist lift her head from between her thighs, a smile on her face and her mouth glistening with Alice's juices and Williams' earlier deposited spunk. 'Doctor Williams apologises,' explained the receptionist. 'He had to leave for an important meeting. He left instructions for you to return at the same time next week.' 'I'm not sure that.' started Alice before the receptionist interrupted her. 'It was an instruction, Ms Rawlinson,' she clarified as she reached for the electric prod and dildo. Accepting her medicine, Alice closed her eyes again as the receptionist's head disappeared once more between her legs to administer a final session of therapy. By Hardtimes x for Literotica

Agitation can escalate quickly into aggressive and potentially dangerous behavior that puts healthcare personnel (HCP) and families at risk of verbal or bodily harm. Nationally recognized expert consensus best-practice guidelines provide clear direction on how to triage and manage agitation in the emergency room setting, but knowledge and implementation gaps remain. As data emerges for new approaches to treatment, clinicians need to know the novel pharmacological and nonpharmacological options to care for agitation in patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This program focuses on the recognition and management of agitation, best practices, and novel treatments. It will distill essential information for everyday clinical practice that offers an alternative to the “sedate and restrain” treatment approaches of the past.

Jaz's Introduction:And what about deciding whether inhalation station, AKA gas and air versus intravenous sedation is best for your patient, and what is the correct path you have to take to be able to safely provide sedation in practice? These are all the questions we'll be covering in today's episode. Hello, Protruserati. I'm Jaz Gulati, and welcome back to your favorite dental podcast. It's not often we do an episode on sedation. It's quite a niche thing, but it complements some of the previous episodes we've done such as the one about hypnosis with Mike Gow. You have to listen to that one. And Mike and Roy, today's guests are actually really good friends, and it makes total sense. You know, Roy was a fantastic calm communicator. I would feel very safe in his hands as a patient. And that's what we all want. We all want our patients to feel safe around us, and that come from how we communicate to our patients. So, before we start on this episode about sedation, all those things that I just discussed, let's get to the Protrusive Dental Pearl. Protrusive Dental Pearl:So, if you're new to the podcast, every main episode, every PDP episode, I will share a Protrusive Dental Pearl. One tip that you can apply straight away. And this one is about communication. I very often like to do well communication one and this is not because I am some sort of master of communication. This is far from it. This is just something that I've been very much in tune with myself. I try to reflect on my communication skills and try to improve, and I try to look at other clinicians when I shadow them or when I see them in practice.

"Your copywriting needs to be edgy!" is the advice I've given for years.  I could have added, "And your books need to be even more edgy!"  For a good part of summer and fall of 2022, I worked on a book with a message. The book grew out of my standup comedy sets, where I used humor to send messages that fight stereotypes about being single and growing older. Audiences remember stories - especially light-hearted stories.  I got distracted from some parts of my business, but I also learned many lessons that apply to business writing as well.  This episode tells the story of how I came to write this book. You'll also discover 5 lessons I learned from writing this book, with examples and, of course, stories. The language in this episode is (as always with me) completely G-rated. I don't mention the title, which contains a mild swear word. You can read the trigger warnings and order the book at http://CathyGoodwin.com/agebook As I say in the podcast, the book originally was targeted to women around 35; it's turned out to be popular with Millennials as well as women over sixty. And almost half of my reviews on Amazon are coming from men. That was one of the biggest surprises.  I have a website to support the book - http://AgingInSneakers.com  For background, I recorded an earlier episode on edgy copywriting:  Click here for Apple. Click here for Spotify.  Or just look for Episode #77 from wherever you are now.

Fighting ChaosI posted the show notes from the previous episode of Heroes Wanted on Instagram last week. I received a great reply from my friend Mark Booher over @TheBarritus. Mark has been a guest on several of my podcast episodes and is a wealth of information.Quote-“I also think facing chaos is intimidating because it's unknown - without the form we're accustomed to. But it's from chaos that order is formed. And if you look at the myths and legends of old, creating order from chaos is often a violent and bloody one - metaphorically speaking.” -Mark BooherThis post got me thinking about chaos, a consistent and persistent adversary of man since the beginning of time. The reality that we must accept is that life is chaos, the chaos is never going away. We must find a way to adapt and overcome the chaos, if only in our day to day lives and in the lives of those that we influence each day.Merriam-Webster – Definition of chaos1 : a state of utter confusion the blackout caused chaos throughout the cityb : a confused mass or mixture a chaos of television antennasI don't know that I could come up with a term to better describe the world that we are living in today. But unlike many, I don't believe that it is out of the ordinary. I don't even believe that we are necessarily living in extraordinary times. I believe that it has always been this way. The difference perhaps is that have more information, maybe too much information, and as has often happened throughout history we have lost faith in those that we need to trust in order to believe that there is order. Merriam-Webster – Definition of orderto put in order : arrange The books are ordered alphabetically by author. As men, it has been our defining purpose to serve through bringing order. Our attempts at bringing order are epic. Everything from time to calendars to hieroglyphics is a search for order. Some have resulted in great benefits for all (water filtration, capitalism) others have led to the death of millions (communism). This need for order drives each of us as individuals in our personal lives, our families, and our communities. It is this drive for order that is often used to manipulate us as I talked about in my episode from Feb. 20 titled Following The Script, go give it a listen. The script we follow is not inherently bad but is used to bring order to your family, your culture, your community, etc.I want to key in on two ways to fight the chaos. Because if you do not engage at least in these two ways. The chaos will chew you up and spit you out. The chaos or the way in which you deal with it will overcome you and destroy you.#1. Find the beauty in the midst of the chaos. It is always there but rarely easy to find. In my book OPEN: Six Life Changing Principles I delve into a very personal story of some ministry work we did in the Guatemala city dump. Of all of the places that I have traveled and met people, this was beyond compare as the worst place I have ever been. The hopelessness hung in the air along with the stench of rotten trash, human excrement, and filth. The total pits of life are not far from here, within spitting distance. The only thing that could have made this place worse was war. As a lower-middle-class American trying to gain some sort of mental grasp on what I was seeing let alone experiencing was a challenge. The chaos was everywhere. As I searched for something to hold on to, I noticed the children. In the midst of this hell, there were children smiling and laughing. These malnourished, dirty, bare-footed children were happy. This was their world, they knew nothing different, and like all kids, they enjoyed the puppet show, balloons, candy, and attention we shared. Without finding the beauty in the chaos, you can and will at some point be overwhelmed. Without finding the beauty, a reason, a hope, you will not be able to fully focus or engage in life or your tasks at your best or in a worthy manner. Find the beauty, your wife, your family, a song, a poem, quote, or verse, find the why.#2. You don't now, and never will have total control. In order to maintain a sort of at least healthy respect for this fact we as humans have devised ways to live within this chaos.Routine: to give order to our life and the lives of our family.Tradition: to give order to a larger group of people, a culture, community, or country.Like most things that involve humans, these can get out of order themselves and lead to their very own chaos. The antithesis of a routine of order is a routine of sedation and sabotage. In an effort to bring order, a sense of control to our lives we can cause great destruction. Just as I mentioned earlier the endeavor to bring order can be extremely destructive to yourselves and those in the vicinity. Things like micro-managing seem to bring order but don't. Aggressiveness, yelling, and bullying bring a sense of control but ultimately birth even more chaos and you sabotage your very own good intentions. If you are not intentional in how you bring order by routine you will take the path of sedation. You will sedate yourself with alcohol, porn, video games, politics, sports, food, entertainment, living vicariously through for children. You will find a way to hide from the chaos rather than confront the chaos head-on. For far too many of our fellow-men this has led to suicide. Husbands and fathers finding a permanent solution for the temporary chaos that seems to have taken control. You must build a routine that challenges you on a daily basis and keeps you alert to the dangers of sedation, self-sabotage, and suicide. I recorded an episode on my morning routine a while back, I also have a training video available for a quick daily journal system. These things are a part of a routine to give me some control of the chaos in my own life. Man has had tradition since the beginning of time. From the solstices to harvest, to the celebration of the seasons. Once again these traditions can become destructive, like the sacrificing of babies in many cultures. The power of these traditions can be felt as we call this phenomenon the Christmas spirit at Christmas time. Once again, build these traditions that you and your family participate in with intent. Do your traditions build unity? Do they bring joy? Is there excitement in anticipation of them? Build your own weekly, monthly, and yearly family traditions. Make them unique, these differences will create a distinction between you and others. For bonus points, have a family meeting and solicit suggestions, and vote on things to do. Your influence through your routine, like my daily note writing and through your family tradition brings order to the chaos.web - Heroeswanted.us/coachingemail - jprim@heroeswated.us

Life of the School Podcast: The Podcast for Biology Teachers

Show Notes: On our panel shows, we start with a goofy question, and as we are releasing this just before thanksgiving, what's a Thanksgiving side dish that you have that may not be on everyones table? - Kelly Kluthe: gooey butter cake - Sedate Kohler: cheesy potatoes #Wisconsin - Lee Ferguson: The most decadent scalloped potatoes ever. - Aaron Mathieu: Mashed turnips and carrots. Let's talk about school culture. How big is the science department in your school? Are you expected to collaborate? - Sedate: 7 people. 4 of us teach Biology, 3 teach Chemistry. Those two teams collaborate frequently, to varying degrees. Most of us also teach courses that we call “singletons”, and don't have any others who teach the same course. - Lee: There are 30 of us on campus, with another 10 at the STEAM center across town, but they are their own entity. As a department there isn't collaboration among all of us since that really takes place in teams. - Kelly: There are 3 of us: Me (biology), a chem/physical science, and a part-time environmental science/genetics & eugenics teacher. We collaborate with general science skills and with vertical alignment. - Aaron: We are ~20 with 8 Biology Teachers. We have a strong collaborative culture. Do you have any colleagues that you collaborate with to plan, develop, reflect with? Are these teachers in your building or from professional communities/PLCs? How long have you been working together? - Lee: I have my team, which I am forever grateful for. In our current iteration we have worked together for the past year. There is one teammate that I have worked with for 5 years now. I also have an extensive network of colleagues that I've built over the past 18 years that I can collaborate with, and often do. - Kelly: I definitely work with the other science teachers in my building to plan vertical alignment. Learn general teaching techniques.. Outside of my building, I collaborate a lot with people in KABT and UKanTeach grads. We've been working together since undergrad. Twitter/Facebook. - Sedate: I have two people who I've been working closely with since 2019 Fall. - Aaron: I tightly collaborate with 1 teacher who is new to our building for honors, but help coordinate our whole honors team and I collaborate with 1 teacher for AP. He is my work husband and we've been working together for 21 years. Collaboration involves a lot of things that can be challenging in the time crunch of the school year: Building trust, letting others take the lead, sharing resources, and being vulnerable. Does your school do anything to make collaboration easier? If not, what could it do? - Kelly: We have one dedicated hour of PLC each week, but I wish it were more. We also have schedules that allow us to observe each other. I'm observed each week and I often have the chance to sit in on other classes. - Sedate: This year we have a new school schedule which has made collaboration (theoretically) a lot easier - Monday - Wednesday we have a “department prep” in addition to a personal prep hour. We are on a hybrid block schedule, so M-W are 47 minutes and Th-F are 90 minutes / class. Th-F our preps are both our own. - Lee: The only thing that my school really does to make this a little easier is require that we have PLC twice a week for 30 minutes each time. We don't get much time on district PD days to collaborate--it's almost an afterthought. :( - Aaron: We have (new this year) early release days each month for collaborative time. It would be good if that time was not taken up with district initiatives. Credits: Please subscribe to Life of the school on your podcast player of choice! Life of the School Podcast: The Podcast for Biology Teachers

Show Notes: - On our panel shows, we start with a goofy question, and as we are recording this just before halloween, did you dress up for halloween this year? If not, do you remember the last time you did? Lee Ferguson: I did not...but I think the last time I did dress up for Halloween, I dressed as a hockey puck. Somewhere in my house there is photographic evidence of this! Kelly Kluthe: My students always say I remind them of Ms. Frizzle, so I think I'll lean into that this year and bust out my best biology dress. Sedate Kohler: The last time I did dress up at school for Halloween I was “outer space” and had galaxy print leggings and hot glue gunned glow in the dark stars to a dress :) Aaron Mathieu: This year, I am embracing my beard and will dress as Alan from the Hangover. - Let's start with some baseline, what are you teaching this year? What are the populations of students you have in each class? Kelly: 2 sections of Health (9th & 10th), 3 sections of 10th Bio, 1 section of Dual-Enrollment Bio (11th & 12th) Sedate: 4 sections of Biology (Freshmen, plus a few sophomores and juniors), 2 sections of AP Biology (Juniors & Seniors) Lee: 4 sections of AP Bio (sophomores, juniors, and seniors), 1 section of IB Bio HL1 (all juniors) Aaron: I teach 2 sections of honors biology (grades 9 & 10 mixed) and 2 sections of AP Biology (Juniors & Seniors). - Do you have to meet any specific state or national standards with this group? Do you have autonomy to set your schedule & pacing? Sedate: Loosely Wisconsin State Science Standards for Biology, and the CED for AP Biology Lee: No state standards, but there's the CED to contend with in my AP course, and the IB curriculum for my IB course. This group of students will sit their exam next spring, and it'll be the first group of kids I've taught in 3 years that will have taken an IB exam since my last group to take an exam was in 2019--exams were cancelled in 2020, and our school opted not to give exams in 2021 because we didn't feel it could be done safely. Kelly: We align to the NGSS but have a lot of autonomy about pacing and what it looks like. My department has been using the OpenSciEd and iHub storylines for Physical Science, Biology, and Chemistry. I basically modify the AP Bio curriculum for my Dual-Enrollment course. Aaron: We have an MCAS test for our first year honors students that is in June based on some NGSS like standards and the AP is based on AP CED. We have general unit flow that the biology teachers developed for our honors curriculum, but have a lot of autonomy on schedule, but we do have common unit assessments. For AP, the AP teachers cooperatively plan our units. - Do you need to coordinate with any other teachers in any or all of your classes? Lee: Absolutely--I am one of a team of 3 AP teachers, so we plan and design assessments together. All three of us teach IB as well but each of us teaches a different level so we don't so much plan together as we do support one another. Kelly: I'm the only life science teacher at my school, so no, no requirements. I have to look to my professional organizations for collaboration. NABT and KABT help me tremendously. Sedate: This year I am one of 4 Biology teachers. 3 of us are pretty collaborative. Aaron: I am 1 of 5 Honors teachers and 1 of 2 AP teachers. We are expected to collaborate and we do… I could do a whole show on this dynamic. Credits: Please subscribe to Life of the school on your podcast player of choice! New Zealand rock outfit Shihad sound younger and fresher on their upcoming album Old Gods, much more so than a band who have been around for just over three decades should!Shihad have continuously churned out the hits, with songs like My Mind's Sedate, Home Again, Pacifier and Bitter reaching another level on the live circuit which is where Shihad surpassed many over their contemporaries with each outing.2014's FVEY saw Shihad reclaim their heavier edge, with vocalist Jon Toogood venting his anger at world issues into a seething mass of venom that many claim to be Shihad's finest – even more than The General Electric. After a seven year absence, Shihad return on August 27 with Old Gods, another electrifying collection of sweat stained rock that proves Kiwi's can get better with age.Bass player Karl Kippenberger joined HEAVY to chat about the album and where the hell they have been for seven years."The last record we released was in 2015,” he offered, “so we kind of sporadically got together and jammed over those six, seven years before hand monthly in Melbourne and we picked the sonic bits that we liked. When we finally got in touch with Adam Spark from Birds Of Tokyo we narrowed down those sonic songs and Jonny started working on vocals. It took a long time to jam and get together but pretty much once we hit the end of last year we moved it up a notch."The gap between albums is actually the longest period of time between releases in Shihad's 31 year history, a fact Kippenberger doesn't even try to defend."It feels like a long time too,” he agreed. “It's funny because I guess half of us ended up having families and a lot's happened in our personal lives over the last seven years but we just together and played shows and jammed and recorded stuff. Yeah, it's not really... I don't know why it took so long really (laughs)."In the full interview Karl goes into Old Gods in greater depth, the subject matter of the lyrics, Jon's vocal performance, still managing to rock after 30 plus years, their upcoming Australian tour, their commitment to rocking out on stage and more.

Pursue & Embrace Wonder -[Steep]. After sharing my vulnerable and personal experience along with the lesson I learned I will equip you with a tool and strategy I use to embrace Wonder and pursue possibility as a means to turning a restless nights sleep into an energizing and inspirational nights sleep. I hope by hearing my experience and me sharing my tools with you that you will ultimately sleep better, find purpose and wake up in wonderment for the world around you instead of wondering why your so tired or just wondering for more in general. More restraint or time to sedate are two of the "go to" answers to behavior problems in the grooming industry. These are two extremes. In part one we'll talk about adding more restraint and/or equipment to a stressed out dog. In part two we'll talk about how sedating a dog doesn't address the behavior issue and that sedating isn't always a safe option. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/creatinggreatgroomingdogs/message

Jones described the character as "someone struggling to find his identity", and identified with the character's loneliness being an orphan like Rand. He noted that "Danny gets really stressed and really pissed off sometimes, and I understand that ... [his] optimism and where that comes from."In preparation for the role, Jones studied kung fu, wushu, and tai chi, along with weight training, Buddhist philosophy, and meditation. Toby Nichols portrays a young Danny Rand.   Jessica Henwick - as - Colleen Wing (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Game of Thrones) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3725055/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 A martial artist ally of Rand who runs her own martial arts dojo called Chikara Dojo in New York City. Henwick felt the most defining word for Wing was "alone", saying, "She doesn't want to be anyone's love interest and open herself up in that way." Henwick also tried "to pull out that sort of very dry humor that [Wing] has, and that no bullshit New Yorker demeanor" from the comics version in her portrayal.   Tom Pelphrey - as - Ward Meachum (Guiding Light, As the World Turns, Banshee) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1670601/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 The son of Harold and childhood acquaintance of Rand, whose work building up Rand Enterprises with his sister Joy is threatened to be undone with Rand's return. Ward is a character from the comics, though Pelphrey noted "we’re not necessarily beholden to representing him [in the series] exactly as he appears in the comic book." Stroup said that Ward would experience some "male angst" on Rand's return, because "Ward would have been the one who picked on [Rand] when he was little so as pure and innocent and great as Iron Fist is, he comes in and he causes some problems" there. Ilan Eskenazi portrays a teenage Ward Meachum.   Jessica Stroup - as - Joy Meachum (90210, The Following, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1888211/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 The daughter of Harold and childhood acquaintance of Rand, whose work building up Rand Enterprises with her brother Ward is threatened to be undone with Rand's return.
