If you would like to help support my mission to multiply disciples, leaders and churches, click here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/robskinner The Power of Right Now Introduction · Have you ever listened to someone's story and then said, “I'll pray for you.” After saying that you quickly forgot about it and never prayed for the person. · Have you ever had a person pop up in your head and you thought, I wonder how they are doing? I bet that person could use a call. After that thought you quickly moved on and never followed up. · Have you ever felt the impulse to reach out and share with someone and then backed off because you were: Ø Too busy Ø Too tired Ø Afraid of their reaction Instead of acting on that impulse, you let the Spirit's prompting pass away. If you can remember at least one time that happened to you, you understand the importance of living out your faith, “Right Now.” That's why I want to talk to you tonight about the power of “right now.” There are three things that we can start doing that will take our faith from theory to practice every single day. All we need to do is: 1. Encourage right now 2. Connect right now 3. Pray right now 1. Encourage Right Now Paul talks about the power of right now in Ephesians 5:15-20. “15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul tells us to be very careful how we live. Why, because the days are evil. That's why we need to realize the power of right now and make the most of every opportunity. Ø Right now people are struggling with temptation Ø Right now disciples are targeted by Satan Ø Right now friends you know are dealing with health issues Ø Right now Christians are considering leaving God and his church Ø Right now people you thought were solid are feeling shaky How can you help? § Encourage people right now § Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit § Share scriptures that encourage you § Praise people § Thank people § Lift people up § Share positively about people who aren't here right now o I really appreciate Stuart. His work in Boston has inspired me and is one of the reasons Pam and I wanted to move here. He is an extremely encouraging person. Often times we know these things and we have positive thoughts about others, but we don't take advantage of the power of now to encourage others. Let's make the most of this opportunity by turning to the person next to you and encourage them with: § Positive words § Gratitude § A scripture § Praise 2. Connect Right Now Let's read Colossians 4:5, “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.” Paul says we need to be wise in how we deal with those aren't following Jesus. We need to make the most of every opportunity. God gives us opportunities every day to help those around us. If we want to see God work in our life, we need to connect every day. On my first Sunday, I was sitting in front of a couple that I could tell were visiting. I introduced myself and they shared they were here for the first time. A few minutes later I saw someone else talking to them and being kind to them. That brother understood the power of right now. At the end of the service, I looked back and they were gone, but I know that brother had exchanged information with them. He had made the most of every opportunity. God gives us opportunities to love and serve those around us every day. We just need to be aware and ready to make the most of every opportunity. Ø When we are at work Ø When we are in an elevator Ø When we are checking out of the store When I arrived, the first thing I did was ask Stuart for some invitation cards to connect when God gave me an opportunity. It's been so much fun to connect and see the power of now: Ø My movers Ø Dunkin Donuts Ø Roche Brothers I think one of the easiest ways aside from reaching out at church on Sunday is simply texting your friends and letting them know what you are doing. It's soft, it's gentle, it's loving and if they're aren't interested they can ignore you. However, a simple text can change a person's life. Let's take advantage of the power of now. Pull out your phone and text a friend or coworker. Just text them something loving like: “Just thinking about you. Hope you are doing well.” If you want to go an extra step, you can add, “I'd love for you to join me this Sunday at church” 3. Pray Right Now How else can we make the most of right now? We can pray for each other in the moment. I can't tell you how many times I've said “I'll pray for you” and then forgot to do it. But then I found a way to avoid that. When someone shares something serious, heavy, or worthy of prayer, I use that as a trigger to pray right then and there. Prayer makes a difference, but if you never follow through, you missed the power of right now. Look at how James describes how powerful prayer really is: “13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. 19 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.” James writes that if we or someone we know is going through something, anything-our first response should be to pray. Why? Prayer is powerful and effective. Prayer moves God. God can do anything. He then launches into a story about Elijah, who he says was a normal person just like us. His prayers changed weather patterns. Would you like to save someone from death, bring wanderers back, return people to the truth and cover over a multitude of sins? It all starts with praying. Praying right now. Let's pray right now by asking the person next to us, “What can I pray for you about?” After listening, hold hands and pray for that person. After that let the other person ask, “What can I pray for you about.” After the person shares a need, put your hands on his or her shoulder or hold hands and say a prayer for them. Pray right now. Conclusion Can you imagine how your life would fill up with joy and power if you started making the most of every opportunity? What if on a daily basis you began to: 1. Encourage right now 2. Connect right now 3. Pray right now I believe you would begin to draw closer to God and people and you would be begin to see miracles happen. That's the power of “Right Now.” Ice Cream Social
Bruce Lee once said “Don't speak negatively about yourself, even as a joke. Your body doesn't know the difference. Words are energy and they cast spells.” At the time, this sounded a little crazy, but with modern science, we can understand this more. Your words literally change your biology, and both positive and negative words have power of your mind, your body, and your health. This episode dives into the science and practical applications of positive affirmations, vibrations and freuency as taught by other scientists that we've had on the show like Dr. Gerald Pollack and Dr. Bruce Lipton. In this episode, Alex breaks down two important concepts: justification (being declared righteous before God through Christ) and sanctification (our gradual growth in righteousness through the Holy Spirit's work).Using 1 Peter 1:1-2, we explore how God sees us as righteous because of Jesus, while the Spirit transforms us day by day as we walk through this life toward the promised land.
Jim Elliot once wrote, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”“Generous” might not be the first word that comes to mind when you think about pro athletes, but Kirk Cousins is rewriting that playbook. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback in the NFL is using his platform—and resources—for eternal impact. Today, we'll hear how his faith shapes everything from football to finances.Kirk Cousins is the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons and a veteran leader in the National Football League (NFL). He previously spent six seasons with the Washington Commanders and six with the Minnesota Vikings. A four-time Pro Bowler and outspoken man of faith, he is also the cofounder of the Julie & Kirk Cousins Foundation, which supports families and youth through faith-based initiatives.A Legacy of Generosity: Lessons from His ParentsGrowing up as a pastor's kid, Cousins remembers how his parents modeled generosity long before he had a bank account of his own.“My mom had the gift of hospitality,” he says. “Even when I didn't think I needed money, she'd hand me two twenties before I went out with friends. There was just this open-handedness.”While his dad managed the family finances with intentionality, it was his mother's willingness to give freely that left the deepest mark. “It was caught, not just taught,” Cousins reflects, emphasizing how their example shaped his understanding of stewardship early on.From Minimum Wage to Signing Bonuses: A Crash Course in StewardshipWhen Cousins was drafted into the NFL, his first check—a six-figure signing bonus—was a wake-up call.“As a college kid who had never earned more than minimum wage, I didn't know what to do,” he recalls. “I called my dad, and he said, ‘I don't know either!'”That moment marked the beginning of a stewardship journey—one that included learning to give, save, and live below his means in a world of excess. It wasn't easy, especially when surrounded by peers embracing a more lavish lifestyle. But Cousins understood that as an athlete, his income had a shorter runway.“You're approaching a cliff,” he says. “So it's scary to give when your career has an end date. But that's where faith comes in—trusting that God will provide beyond your own earning power.”It would be easy, Cousins admits, to treat financial obedience like a checklist—give, save, repeat. But biblical stewardship isn't about rules; it's about surrender.“I've done that—just checked the boxes. But that's not the abundant life Jesus promises. It's not religion, it's relationship.”He points to Jesus' parable of the treasure in the field (Matt. 13:44): “Once you see Jesus as the treasure, everything else becomes a logical response. Of course you'd sell everything to have Him. Stewardship flows from seeing Him clearly.”When Faith Feels Risky: Giving on a Diminishing TimelineThe tension for Cousins lies in balancing the enjoyment of God's provision with wisdom about the future.“I actually enjoy those moments that require more faith. When I give, and I don't know what's next, it puts the pressure back on God—where it belongs.”But he's quick to acknowledge the gray areas. “What's wise versus what's excessive? There's no formula. You have to walk with God and ask for His guidance daily.”One of the most valuable pieces of advice Kirk received early in his career came from a generous mentor: “Always give in unity with your wife.”That advice stuck.“When Julie isn't comfortable, I pause and pray. Her perspective might be the Holy Spirit speaking. Giving together strengthens our marriage and our stewardship.”Cousins sees their giving not only as a financial decision, but as a spiritual discipline of unity and trust.Planning for the Future: Wisdom Before WealthAs parents to young boys, Kirk and Julie have also had to consider how best to plan their estate. They've established a family office to prepare for the future—but with a strong desire to pass on wisdom before wealth.“We want to get to the end of our lives and say: the wisest hands to put this in are our kids'. But we also want to be realistic. If it wouldn't be wise to pass along wealth, we want our plan to reflect that.”Much of their estate will also go to their foundation, which they hope will be spent down soon after their passing. “We don't want it to live on in perpetuity with intentions we never had. We want to make an impact now.”So, where is Kirk Cousins most excited to give right now? The answer goes back to his roots.“I went to a Christian high school—Holland Christian—and it profoundly impacted my life. I want to make it more affordable for other families, support teachers, and strengthen Christian education.”It's a full-circle moment: a public school kid transformed by Christian community, now investing in the same kind of life-shaping environments for others.Final Whistle: A Life Well StewardedKirk Cousins is more than an NFL quarterback. He's a husband, father, and faithful steward who is using his influence to glorify God—not just in the end zone, but in the quiet decisions of budgeting, giving, and planning for the future. His story reminds us: Stewardship is not about how much we have—it's about how faithfully we respond to the One who gave it all.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I own my home outright and keep hearing about home title protection services. How real is the risk of title fraud, and should I be concerned?I have rental properties in Arkansas, but my kids in California don't want them. I'm worried that when I pass, they'll sell them quickly for way less than they're worth. When Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem, he found that the people had slipped from God's ways to their own ways, forsaking the house of God. Standing on scripture and history, Nehemiah's reformations restored the sanctity of God's house, service in the temple, submission to the Sabbath and the standards of God. Today's church needs the same reformation to return back to God's ways and stand on His word. The Holy Spirit is working in unbelievers' hearts as we share the Gospel. What exactly does He do? In this message from John 16, Pastor Lutzer reveals how the Spirit convicts unbelievers of one sin, one standard, and one danger. Alcohol is something that many have used to ruin their lives, but alcohol itself is not a sin. When we choose to do something, whether drink alcohol or any other thing, we need to make sure that we are doing it for the glory of God. Rather than getting drunk with alcohol, the Bible instructs us to get drunk in the Spirit and let Him lead us and guide us in the things He wants us to do.

TODAY'S DEVOTION: Imagine a day with Jesus—just beginning your day with him, having coffee, driving to work, simply sharing your routines and moments with him. As you spend this day with Jesus, you soon realize it is a day like no other. It's a day without judgment, a day without fear, a day without condemnation—a day lived in God's life-giving presence, where you are truly free. How could anything be better than that? That's exactly what the disciples experienced: days and years walking with Jesus, learning from him, being next to him, their eyes opened to who God is and what he is truly like—self-giving, radically forgiving, and co-suffering in his love for all, even for enemies. For these disciples, there didn't seem a greater reality than simply being by his side. But in John 16, Jesus tells them something almost unimaginable. He says it's better for them—better for us—that he should go. Why? Because as he departs, he promises to send the Advocate, the Spirit of God, who will dwell not just with a few, but in all who receive him. This Advocate, the Holy Spirit, reveals to the world the true character and glory of God. He brings God's abiding presence into every believer's life, awakening us to a deeper reality: Christ, not just among us, but within us—wherever we are, whatever our circumstance. The presence of Christ in us is God's best gift, given freely today to all his children. No matter if you're in Cincinnati, Somerset, Perth, or São Paulo, the Spirit of Christ is with you, awakening your heart to the presence and peace of God. Through him, you can live this day—every day—without condemnation, without fear, enjoying the peace and abundant joy that Jesus gives. God's best is yours, right now. That's the prayer I have for my own soul: to live and walk in that presence, in that peace and freedom. It's the prayer I hold for my family—my wife, my daughters, my son. And it's the prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord of life, you have awakened me again to the gift of this day. You go before me, walk beside me and dwell within me. Let me walk slowly in your presence. May I resist the hurried spirit of this world and instead breathe deep of your peace. Open my eyes to beauty, my ears to your voice, and my heart to the quiet work of grace. Help me not to strive, but to abide, not to achieve, but to receive. Today. Let my words carry your kindness. My actions reflect your mercy. My thoughts be anchored in your truth that I am yours and you are with me. Amen. And now, as our Lord has taught us, we are bold to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation. The Holy Spirit is working in unbelievers' hearts as we share the Gospel. What exactly does He do? In this message from John 16, Pastor Lutzer reveals how the Spirit convicts unbelievers of one sin, one standard, and one danger. When someone is saved through this conviction, it's a miraculous transformation. This month's special offer is available for a donation of any amount. All God's promises are yes and amen! In this timely message, Ps. Lisa calls believers to carry “a different spirit,” like Joshua and Caleb, who saw God's promises as greater than the giants before them. This message urges us to take territory and to add our yes and amen to what God has spoken.

Send us a textIn Exodus 35, we read about men and women whose hearts were stirred and whose spirits were made willing—so willing, they brought their finest treasures to God for the work of the Tabernacle. Their generosity wasn't forced. It was a response to His stirring. This week, I'm asking myself—and you—some challenging questions: Am I holding anything back from God? My time, my resources, my relationships? Do I sense a new stirring in my spirit? And if so, will I act on it?We'll explore what it means to live with a willing heart, how to activate the Spirit of God within us, and why our generosity—whether in service, creativity, or resources—is a direct reflection of our trust in Him.If you're ready for God to move your heart and stir your spirit into action, this episode will help you step out in faith and say, “Yes, Lord—here's my all.”
So many Christians go through their lives feeling spiritually dry, without a sense of purpose, without divine guidance, drifting apart from family and friends and forgetting what it felt like to have God's Spirit carrying them through circumstances. These live daily with a quiet sense of despair and loneliness, but this is not how God intended us to live and from the very beginning He devised a plan to help us avoid this pattern. We learn from our text today that God planned to endue with power those who would set aside a day to rest and spend time with Him.
