Dads, ever feel like you're on autopilot, where each day is just running through the same motions? You're not alone. Dad of three Chris Robbins joins us to discuss how Soul Degree seeks to help men interrupt the flow, get outside, and take some well-deserved time to focus on bettering ourselves. Chris also shares candidly about being a new "empty nester" along with his wife, legendary podcaster, author, and self-help thought leader, Mel Robbins. Listen to the end to learn about Marc's "bloody good" weekend! Episode 119 of Modern Dadhood opens with Adam & Marc discussing a few exciting podcast updates:1. Adam published an article on Katie Couric Media which references some great child-calming tactics gleaned from Modern Dadhood episodes!2. The guys will be attending Podcast Movement's Evolutions conference in Chicago in early April and would love to connect with any listeners or fellow podcasters there!3. The guys have released a podcast trailer for Modern Dadhood (only 5 years too late!) and the video trailer can be seen here. The guys welcome Chris Robbins into the conversation. Chris is an entrepreneur with a versatile career which took him from the corporate world to owning restaurants, becoming a death doula, opening a world-class podcasting studio in Boston, and founding Soul Degree, a men's personal development program centered around outdoor retreats. Chris shares candidly about this, along with his fatherhood experience, which includes supporting a creative collaboration between his daughter Sawyer and his legendary wife Mel Robbins. Other topics include:•  Chris and Mel Robbins becoming new "empty nesters" after dropping their youngest of three off at college recently•  The importance of slowing down, reflecting, and engaging in meaningful conversations about our lives, roles, and mental health.•  The influence of Chris' father on his own entrepreneurial and fatherhood journeys.•  The power of listening versus offering unsolicited advice.•  And more! After the interview, Marc shares a recent story of a sibling scuffle that ended in a visit to the local emergency room. In this episode of Post-Shift Shot, I share a story about resilience and adversity. It's a tale of twin boys raised in a harsh environment, with one ending up homeless and the other becoming the head of pediatrics. This story resonates with me because it highlights how our upbringing influences us, but doesn't have to control our path. Adversity and resilience are powerful forces in life, and how we respond to them shapes our future. Thanks for tuning in, and I'll see you next week! My journey to parenthood was marked by 6 years of longing and uncertainty. I endured numerous medical procedures and the heartache of repeated disappointments. Accepting that parenthood might not be part of my story was challenging. I was open to adoption, but it also presented its challenges. In 2013, after one final attempt at IVF, I was blessed with healthy twin boys. This moment transformed my journey into one of profound joy and fulfillment. With over 20 years of experience as the founder of Lucky Chick Beauty, I was familiar with life's ups and downs as an entrepreneur, but nothing prepared me for the challenges of making a baby. While others seemed to achieve parenthood easily, my path was more complex. I faced the demands of injecting medications and surgically implanting embryos. Today, my fertility struggles put life's challenges in perspective. I'm grateful that more people are open about their struggles, helping others feel less alone on their journey to parenthood. My fertility journey now guides me in both my business and life. It was a test of perseverance that everyone must endure to thrive in the world. Meghan got married a little over 4 years ago to Kenny (currently Averett's head baseball coach) and they have a gorgeous son, Roman, who will soon be 3 years old and… spoiler alert… he's about to be a big brother to TWIN BOYS!!! Needless to say, everything in their life needed a reassessment with this news and the doors that opened and closed were simply providential. Meghan talks about her crunchy/organic nature and how she prefers more natural alternatives, especially considering some medical issues she's had. She even makes her own soap and deodorant at home!!! Jamie shares a fascinating story about traveling to the Peruvian jungle to take part in an Ayahuasca Ceremony to help him heal from his childhood trauma. The experience helps him to get sober and be the Dad that he wants to be and he's now the father of two 3 year old twin boys. It's an incredible story about death of ego and meeting the higher power of love which leads Jamie to purge addiction and substance abuse. A wild ride! Inspired by his Mother and Grandmother, Jamie has been cooking from an early age. As a Dad he has high standards when it comes to the family diet with 'low gluten' and no processed sugar. We both reflect on related behaviour of children after eating sugary foods...and a couple of ideas on how to deal with Halloween. Jamie is also very positive about embracing the process that his family is currently going through with assessments to see if his boys are on the autism spectrum.

Every NICU experience is different even when babies are born at the same gestational age. Today we are speaking with the Goldsmith Family who welcomed their NICU Miracles at just 23 weeks and 5 days. They have a powerful story, to share with you, about navigating the ups and downs of the NICU all the way to starting Kindergarten this fall. If you have concerns about how to navigate the NICU and what seeing your NICU miracles start their educational journey with kindergarten looks like, this episode is for you. On this episode you will hear: - The Goldsmiths' journey to starting their family. - How the Goldsmiths decided to transfer their son to a new hospital. - How they managed going between two hospitals while trying to heal and manage life outside of the NICU. - When the Goldsmiths had moments that they felt as though they needed to speak up and how they did that (and what you can take away from that). - Craig Goldsmith shares his journey and perspective as a dad and husband, going through the NICU journey with Jennifer. - Gavin and Declan both experienced surgeries during their extended NICU stays. You will hear how the Goldsmiths got through the surgeries and what their childrens' recoveries looked like. - What it feels like to hear the words “You're going home.” - What it felt like to go back into the hospital. - What the Goldsmith family's journey looked like since graduation (from the NICU) to kicking off Kindergarten this year. - How you can manage therapies and the therapy schedule (like the Goldsmiths). - The one piece of advice the Goldsmiths have for other NICU families, like yours, who may be navigating a similar path. In today's episode, Nat chats with Anita Chaudhari, mom of 4-year-old twin boys, about her pregnancy and planned C-section delivery at 38 weeks, how her twins are alike and how they differ, why she naps her twins in separate rooms, what she's planning for her twins in Kindergarten, and her top advice for new parents of twins.Anita Chaudhari is a stay-at-home mom to four-year-old twin boys, Ashton and Noah.  After struggling with fertility for many years, Anita and her husband Manny found out they were pregnant with twins and it was the greatest blessing of their life! Anita left her corporate job in Human Resources to be at home with her boys and, along the way, she developed a passion for respectful parenting and non-toxic living.  She is intentional about how she chooses to live her life and is looking to pass this approach down to her boys.  She continues to practice her HR skills on a part-time basis by assisting her husband at his company and is a Brand Partner with Young Living where she helps other families and moms transition to a low-toxic lifestyle.  Find Anita on Instagram, Facebook, and her website.  Anita's Top 3 Pieces of Advice for Twin Parents:1. Have a game plan for how you will be taking care of your new babies once they arrive! Make sure you have help lined up (family, night nurse, au pair, etc.) and talk it over with your spouse so that you are both on the same page. 2. Get out and do things with your twins and don't let the fear stop you from living life! Having twins is harder than having a singleton but don't let that stop you from getting out and about with your twins. If one cries, then you attend to that one and both are crying, that's OK too. You can handle it! 3. Stick to a routine/schedule and write everything down! We had a notebook where we logged every feed, every diaper change, and their naps and it was super helpful!3 Things She Wishes She Had Done Differently:1. I would have limited the visitors at the hospital. We were there for seven days and it felt like someone was always there (with the best intentions) but that made attempting to breastfeed very difficult and awkward at times. 2. I wish we would have had a night nurse lined up to help at least a couple of nights a week as our babies did not sleep well and we were absolutely sleep deprived in those first five months (before we sleep trained). 3. I wish we had connected with other twin parents by joining twin groups or organizations such as Twiniversity. Read as many books on twin parenting that you can and soak up the knowledge before the twins arrive because you won't have much time afterward.Know a twin parent who'd like to be a guest? Welcome to part 2 of my top 10 of 2020. You can read/listen to part 1 here. These are not ranked in order, but they have numbers because this is a list of 10 things and so I want everyone to know that I did, in fact, include 10 things. Group chats: they exist in texts. iMessage. Instagram messages. Discord. Telegram. Slack. Signal. Group chats have a levity and asynchronous nature that allow us to stay connected, but on our own time. Zoom and Facetime are good for a lot of things, but it's also pretty draining to be on camera all the time! And you can have multiple chats going on at once. You've got the ones with your families, the one with your OG crew, your current town buddies, your brother and his friends, the group of Very Online strangers that you met on a social network made for sharing screenshots that you've all since abandoned but now you talk all day (literally all day, given the timezones. Real panic hours when unlock your phone and see 1,354 messages and it's been like just a few hours since you opened the group chat). You know, the usual kind of groups. But hey! People need people. People connect over the most ordinary and also completely random happenstance, and it makes me feel good. Also did I just spend too many words describing a very basic communication medium? Sure did! Boys: so. uh. Rachel is pregnant. We took a circuitous route and lots of trying to get here. But in the end? We got pregnant. With twins! TWIN BOYS! We're technically due at the end of April, but will deliver sometime earlier in the month. What the hell did we get ourselves into? We're going to find out. And even though I started this list off by saying this is absolutely not a ranked list, this should have been #1, #3, and probably #10, just to reinforce the fact that WE'RE HAVING TWINS. TWINS THAT MIGHT ONE DAY DISCOVER THAT POPS IS ALREADY WRITING ABOUT THEM. (I don't know if I'm going by Pops. Maybe PawPaw. Daddio?)Questlove: this dude was a savior at the start of quarantine, broadcasting live sets from his bunker every night. He is a human music encyclopedia and his special shows, like all-Stevie/Marvin/Prince sets, are full of gems and anecdotes. His more contemporary hip-hop broadcasts meant that rappers, producers, music industry vets, and the like would pop in and converse with each other in the comments. Or they'd share never-before-heard stories about a given track or artist. Or an artist would pop in and Questlove would quickly pivot to a song of theirs. Anyways, he's kept up his wildly prolific broadcasts and I love him for it.David Ritz's biography of Marvin Gaye: this was a "holy s**t" read (that I learned of because Questlove kept referencing the book and specific stories from it during his Marvin set). It's the best music biography I've ever read, in part because of the access that Ritz got to Marvin, and how insanely deep and self-reflective (and destructive) Marvin was. Ritz was actually hired to help Marvin write an autobiography while Marvin was still alive, so over the span of several years, he racked up tons and tons of interviews that were meant to be turned into Marvin's own written word. But then Marvin was murdered by his Dad and so, instead of a book written in Marvin's first-person voice, Ritz had this wildly expanded archive of direct source material that he augmented with interviews from people who were in Marvin's orbit throughout his life. The NBA: look, I still find it wildly problematic that a lot of sports—especially college sports—are being played during this pandemic, for a number of reasons. But the NBA bubble will go down as one of the greatest things that a sports league has ever done. I know it was laborious and wildly taxing for the support folks that were in the bubble, like the caterers and hotel workers. People were separated from their families for a long time. But selfishly: f**k, did I (/we) need it. The amount of good hoops that we got, in a really weird setup, was so fun. It seems very unlikely that the 2020/2021 season will be deemed as successful, since the teams are playing and traveling to home arenas instead of playing on a centralized campus. The 72-game season will undoubtedly be reduced to 60 or even 50 for some teams, thanks to COVID. But that glorious bubble.Well, that's it for Greg's Newsletter in 2020. I managed to get a few more of these out than last year, a trend that I hope to continue in 2021.I love you all and I always love hearing from you in case you want to drop a line and just say what's up! Or tell me what's new with you.

I found Alex on Instagram and when I read her profile I just knew that I had to interview her!  She is full of amazing positive energy and is a single mom that has raised twin Autistic boys!  She has learned so much on her journey and I wanted to make sure that you had the opportunity to hear what she has learned along the way.  I honestly think that we can learn so much from others that have gone through similar journeys and will have an easier time raising our own children as a result! Alex Chart helps positive and overwhelmed mums of special educational needs children find that “me time” they crave so badly through my Health Warrior online support groups. Recommended books: For you - Girl Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis  For autism - The Reason I Jump by Naoki Higishida Top 3 takeaways 1.) Stay calm and be patient to help your child recover from a meltdown.  This will also help you to reflect on why the meltdown happened and how to be proactive to prevent or minimize them. 2.) Allow your child to feel their emotions and teach them strategies to recognize the emotions that they are feeling. 3.) Make sure to take care of yourself so you can then take care of your children.  This is also important so you can advocate for your child! In Episode 19 I speak with Joi about the birth of her Identical Twin Boys Jaxon and Byron. Jaxon and Byron were born at 28 weeks and 2 days via elective C-Section and Joi had been under close observation by the Fetal Med team at Auckland hospital for the better part of her pregnancy due to suspected growth restriction and possible Twin-to-Twin-Transfusion Syndrome. During the last scan it was discovered Jaxon had a problem with his heart, so a C-Section was scheduled in order for Jaxon to receive the medication and care her needed. Both boys needed to go straight into NICU, where Jaxon was extremely unstable for the first week and needed to be resuscitated at 6 days. After this Jaxon made steady improvements and was the first twin to leave NICU. They spent over 3 months in NICU/SCBU/Starship with Byron, who then spent another 5 months on oxygen at home. Jaxon and Byron are now busy, beautiful 2 year olds who keep their parents on their toes! Joi does a wonderful job of recounting her birth story and journey with the boys, and I'm grateful she took the time to talk with me.
