Let's face it: it's hard to talk about money. We are so conditioned to think that bringing it up, even to family and friends, is tacky and rude that we'd rather not talk about it at all. However, what we need to realize now is that money is power! And avoiding the discussion only takes away our control over our finances and wealth. In this episode, Vivian Tu joins Liz and Andresa to bring a fresh take on financial literacy. She discusses how open and honest conversations can help overcome our outdated mindsets about money. She also shares practical budgeting and money management strategies we can use to gain more confidence in our finances. Vivian Tu aka @YourRichBFF is an ex-Wall Street Trader turned financial literacy creator. She didn't like how the topic of finance only seem to cater to old, rich, and male audiences. Now, Vivian is on a mission to make money talk fun by blending topics like student debt and home-buying with anecdotes about celebs and funny stories. With over 1 million followers on TikTok, she aims to bring inclusive and easy-to-understand personal finance and investing content to women and underserved communities as well as to the next generation of BFFs.Quotes• “Our financial services industry has largely served audiences that are male and pale, and unfortunately for women, for people of color, for marginalized communities, like the LGBTQ community, we haven't been given this education.” (9:52-10:05)• “Not having those conversations puts us in a worse spot than if we were to able to benchmark ourselves essentially against our peers and get information and share that important knowledge." (10:26-10:27)• “I actually prefer to deposit the majority of my paycheck into one account and then set aside money for savings that just automatically goes elsewhere. I don't even look at it. I pretend like it didn't come in. And then I never think about it again. But because I don't think about it, the number I see on my banking app is smaller. So I don't feel that false sense of comfort so that I go and spend frivolously.” (14:52-15:14)• “We, as women have always been told, we are overspenders. We love to go on shopping sprees. We max out those credit cards and we have been told the way to create a surplus in the amount of money we have is to cut back. Don't buy that coffee. Don't buy that dress. Do nothing for yourself. Basically, be miserable. Whereas our male counterparts have been told to, you know, grow your wealth, invest, be an entrepreneur.” (19:33-19:56)• “You can only save as much as you earn.” (20:21-20:23) • “We love to read tabloids and talk about pop culture. Sara & Wendy talk with special guest, Kushal Choksi, ex- Wall Street Trader, survivor of 9/11 attacks, author " On A Wing And A Prayer" , chocolatier, serial entrepreneur as we talk about meditation, breathwork, chocolate, and life. One of the great learnings here is that yoga meditation and breathwork is for every body! It doesn't slow you down, it actually helps you be a better human in work, life, and play.Kushal guides us through Sky Breath and shares his top tips:1. Don't take life so seriously2. Be yourself3. Keep yourself on your priority listKushal's thriving career as an analyst at Goldman Sachs was forever changed on September 11, 2001 as he made a split-moment decision to abandon his office and the co-workers who refused to leave the World Trade Center. Managing to narrowly escape, he witnessed the magnitude of death and destruction up close and was plunged into lengthy depression where he found himself believing life was meaningless. His search for a renewed purpose began with a reluctant trip to a breathwork workshop and eventually turned into a decades-long journey of spiritual discovery, mind-blowing metaphysical experiences, and a fierce devotion to the life-altering benefits of mindfulness and meditation.Today, Kushal and his wife run Elements Truffles, a New York-based artisanal chocolate company built on values of Ayurveda, sustainability, giving back and ethical trade. Kushal is a trainer of personal development, meditation, wellness, and leadership programs for the Art of Living Foundation. He has taught secrets of breathwork and meditation to thousands across the US, Europe, and Asia. Today's guest is a Wall-Street based stock trader who bases his trades on what are called "technical trades". Basically he trades on the patterns in the market itself and does not rely on out side inputs for his primary trades. Technical trading is based on the consensus that the market generates a repeatable pattern.... So is this pattern orchestrated by man, or is it a natural occurrence? Today's guest, who wishes to remain anonymous tells us his thoughts. Intro is a compilation of video clips taken in 2021; featuring Al Sharpton, David Knight, Khalil Ferebee (son of Andrew Brown), Muhammad Lee and others. Clips were taken from Occupy Peace Rally in Kingston, NY, protests over Andrew Brown's shooting in Elizabeth City, and the funeral of Andrew Brown Jr. Music: Battle of the Creek by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Brought to you by: HealingLaw.com Reach out at contact@healinglaw.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lerenaissance/support

When a woman sells her home and doesn't disclose that friendly ghosts haunt it, the subsequent court case leads to the New York Supreme Court officially declaring the house haunted. In 1989, Helen Ackley sold the 18-room Victorian mansion that she'd lived in for 24 years. Located at 1 Laveta Place in Nyack, New York, overlooking the Hudson River, and lovingly restored by Helen and her late husband when they first purchased it in the 1960s, it was the perfect home for the Stambovskys, a Wall Street Trader and his wife, who purchased it. Except for one thing--the house was haunted. Helen Ackley was proud of her ghosts, and seemed to consider them close friends. When a local architect mentioned the house's paranormal reputation to the new buyer, Stambovsky immediately sued to get his down payment back, and refused to move into the home. That led to a court case, widely known as the Ghostbusters Ruling, that went to the New York Supreme Court--twice--and cumulated with a pun-filled ruling that quoted the ghost from Shakespeare's Hamlet, as well as the hit 1984 movie Ghostbusters. The judge had spoken: "as a matter of law, the house is haunted." Highlights include: • The ghost of a Revolutionary War naval officer • A fixer-upper with ghosts • A spirit-approved paint job For the shownotes and sources, visit buriedsecretspodcast.com. We talk about selections in cricket a lot. I can't think of another sport that seems so focused on them, and yet we talk about the process of how teams are elected so rarely. So I brought on my former colleague Mohammad Khan to talk through how he believes teams should be selected, taking from his knowledge as a Wall Street Trader and someone who won the CPL as a general manager. We talk about the amateur days of selection, Fawad Alam, what an all-rounder is, our own personal depth charts and Merv Hughes. - To support the podcast please go to our Patreon page. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=32090121. Beth and Jen find out about these FLUFFY, family-friendly pups who love to be outside and shed a whole heck of a lot. She said "Outward Bound Wilderness Course Instructor" which is definitely better than Wall Street Trader. Sorry about the sound issue. Today we have Julie Santiago with us and she had two BIG TRUTHS to share with us. The first she called universal, "We all know who we are and what we want." The second she called personal, "I want my life to be super simple." So we dove into both. Turney's journey is one to be heard, his book The Buy Side, by former Galleon Group trader Turney Duff, portrays an after-hours Wall Street culture where drugs and sex are rampant and billions in trading commissions flow to those who dangle the most enticements. A remarkable writing debut, filled with indelible moments, The Buy Side shows as no book ever has the rewards – and dizzying temptations – of making a living on the Street. I really enjoyed talking to Turney about his successes, failures and of course his story in business so far. Say that you're hiking in the Ukraine and come across a young American YouTuber. You fall into conversation and learn that he's taking time off from teaching English in Spain. Before that, he was a professional fighter. Before that, a Wall Street bond trader. Before that, the Ivy League, where he was nearly an All-American wrestler. Would you not leave that hike with your head spinning? Well, you're in luck: You don't have to buy boots and a ticket to the Ukraine. Just listen to this conversation between overlapping-life-story buds Rollie Peterkin and The Spaniard.
It's no secret that a lot of people in finance like to bet on things. But how many of them take the time to actually beat the house in gambling? On this week's Odd Lots, we talk to Joe Peta, a former Lehman Brothers trader, and the author of "Trading Bases," a book about betting on baseball. Peta started focusing on baseball after a freak accident (getting hit by an ambulance) gave him lots of time to think about applying his trading knowledge to baseball. Eventually he launched a $1 million baseball betting fund that returned 14 percent in a year to his investors. On this episode, Peta talks to us about why baseball is uniquely suited to data analytics, how he was able to exploit market inefficiencies, and what sports betting can teach us about market structure.
Turney Duff was a hedge fund trader on Wall Street who lead a truly excessive lifestyle. In 2013 he released a book about his experiences—titled, The Buy Side. And currently, Turney is a consultant on the Showtime TV series, Billions. On this episode we cover everything, from what it was like to trade more than one billion dollars at Galleon Group—which was the hedge fund run by Raj Rajaratnam, currently serving an 11-year prison sentence for partaking in one of the largest insider trading rings in U.S. history. Following on from this, we discuss Turney’s relationships with the sell-side and the extreme measures they’d take to win his business. Which leads into the shenanigans which took place after-hours—the cocktail of drugs, alcohol, sex, money and power. We finish up with Turney’s fall from the top, some of the greatest realizations he’s come to, and the life he leads today… Enjoy! -- Sponsored by TradeStation.com – TradeStation connect traders with all the bell’s n whistles to better monitor and participate in markets.

This week we spent some time with New York Times Best-Selling Author Turney Duff. His monikers not only include best selling author, but former Wall Street Trader, Hedge Fund co-Founder, Technical Adviser / Consultant for the Showtime television show Billions and contributor to CNBC. Over the course of his career there is little that he hasn’t seen and fortunately for his fans he writes about it. In the first segment, we talk story telling and his start as a Wall Street Trader. We discuss how as people we establish ‘lines’ that we won’t ever cross, and then how life tests that resolve and more times than not we cross our own lines. He shares his perspective about the pursuit of happiness, and how he traded that pursuit for a pursuit of serenity. He shares his view about the difference between IQ and EQ and how his talent for gauging a room was really what assisted most in his success. The discussion about the difference is a game changer. In the second segment we discuss his creative process and the inspiration behind his book; The Buy Side. He shares the experience of arranging his book deal with Randon House and how he was able to find the creative starting point that ended up becoming his book. He stresses the need to not trying to impress anyone and how this ended up being the door for his story that shows both his flaws and his humanity. Turney’s experience is evidence that no matter your position or experiences in life, it’s never too late to follow a passion and ultimately turn it into your career! Adam Sherman is an online MTT pro turned Wall Street Trader. His first major score came in PokerStars' Wednesday Quarter Million event in January '10 for $58,200. He followed that up with a victory in the Stars $150k Guaranteed for $41.1k and also has a first place finish in the Nightly Hundred Grand for $22,700. One of his largest online tournament cashes came courtesy of a victory in the PokerStars SCOOP-22-H ($3,000+150 NLHE 4-max) for $210,000. Less than a week later, Adam placed 2nd in the SCOOP-31-H ($2,000+100 NLHE Cubed 1r+1a) for $173,000. Those scores came only one month after he took down the Sunday 500 for $89,500. In April 2012, Sherman chopped the PokerStars Super Tuesday and cashed for $69,000. In August 2013, Sherman was back at it, finishing second in the PokerStars Sunday Million following a four-way chop for $150,000. In May 2015 Adam won the PokerStars Sunday 500, taking home $76,000. In 2014 he made the move to New York to take a job in a Wall Street trading firm. In our interview, we discuss the similarities he's found between his two professions, and what poker players should do if they want to stock trading.
Today on the podcast I sit down with Jason Wachob, co-founder and CEO of MindBodyGreen.com- the internet's primary destination for all things wellness.I first crossed Jason's path back in 2009 and we have been fast friends with him and his wife Colleen ever since. I love his vision and am so excited to share his story — and that of MindBodyGreen — with you.Not only has Jason placed an indelible mark on the new media scene with his Dumbo, Brooklyn based startup, eclipsing expectations of what a web-based health-oriented content provider can and should be, his personal journey from overstressed Wall Street Trader — his face forever memorialized on the wall at The Palm – one of NYC's most famous steak houses! — to Wellness Warrior / yoga & meditation evangelist is noteworthy in it's own right and eminently relatable.Watch him recap his story briefly here:Then enjoy the show!THANK YOUJust yesterday we eclipsed half a million downloads of this podcast. That's over 500,000 listens – UNBELIEVABLE! Thank you so much for tuning in. It's been a dream. I started this podcast on a whim while living in yurts on an organic farm on the North Shore of Kauai this past winter. It was merely an experiment. A creative outlet. I would never have predicted that it would have found such a large audience. Thank you. I am beyond grateful. Beyond humbled. And committed more than ever to raise the bar on this show and double down on quality. That's a promise.FINDING ULTRA PAPERBACK IN TIME FOR FATHER'S DAYLast week Finding Ultra* finally hit bookstores and online retailers in paperback. It's an honor, as not every book published gets a paperback release. So here I am again, pitching you with the hard sell. It feels weird, but hey — I'm on my own here. No publicist. No press. Plus, Random House basically told me they don't have the resources to market and promote the release. So I'm flying solo and need all the help I can get.But I'm not alone — I've got all of you, who have been beyond supportive. So if you've enjoyed the content I've been freely sharing — content that takes an obscene amount of my time to create — and feel inclined to support the message I so passionately believe in, then this is the time I am REALLY ASKING FOR YOUR HELP.Already read the book? Then get it as a gift for someone — after all, Father's Day is coming up and you gotta get dear old dad something anyway. Plus, it's darn cheap – just $12.99 on Amazon! What the heck, right? That's like a one cold pressed juice at Whole Foods; and will hopefully be even a bit more nourishing. Then tell a friend.THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
